I willingly read french so now you're getting a book report about it

I referenced this in her Griss drowning era tags, but I went through to compare the French version of her supports to the English one because if you have the ability to do that why not do it.

Some fun little tldr notes:

Yunaka uses “vous” for everyone except Citrinne and Etie.

While the supports in essence are the same, a lot of the way she talks about her past life is softened in language (ie. “[...]who’s out for blood” vs. “[...]who’s out for the kill”.

French has more of a distinction in Yunaka and Larimar being two different lives for her. English will tend to say things like “I moved on” while French will say “I started a new life” or similar.

Citrinne and Yunaka call her “un assassin” and I know that this is just French grammar being stupid but I’m choosing to see it as nonbinary confirmation.

“Zappy” gets translated to “top moumoute”, for the curious. This is not a French Canadian one, this means nothing to me.

Firstly in regards to pronoun usage, Yunaka refers to almost everyone with “Vous”, with the exception of Etie and Citrinne. This contrasts with the rest of her dialogue, which is still very casual for the most part. 

Rather than using it purely as a formal address (which I think she’s only genuinely doing with Alear and maybe Alfred and Fogado), it’s to establish distance/boundaries with the others and to keep them from getting close to her. Yes, she cares about everyone and considers them friends and fights to protect them, but getting close to her is a danger to their lives that she can't forgive herself for, and so it's a way to establish distance in the hopes they get the hint.

Citrinne and Etie getting “tu” from the get go makes sense as well. Citrinne already knows who and what Yunaka was, and makes it clear that there's no chance of them becoming friends in their C support, so there is no need to try and establish any kind of distance between them. Etie just pisses her off real bad in that first C support. Honestly, I’m surprised Zelkov doesn’t get a “tu” as well.

For supports themselves, I’m only listing supports with actual things that caught my attention, for the most part the supports are pretty similar with the kind of localization differences you’d expect.

Alfred Support:

For the most part, their supports are the same. Yunaka’s a bit more snarkier about him trusting her in their C support. Yunaka calls him a strange bird in their A support (“whole new breed of bird” in English), which I think is cuter because Alfred calls her a weird bird in response in both languages. The main thing that jumps at me is in their A support:

Yunaka (English): If you knew who I was[...], you’d come after me.” Yunaka (French): If you knew who I was[...], you’d punish me.”

While the idea is the same, the French version has an extra connotation that Yunaka thinks her life as Larimar is worth punishing. There’s also more of a sense of resignation with the word punishment, whereas “come after me” comes across as though she’d still try to run. I have more thoughts on this, but we’ll get to them later.

Etie:

Aside from their B support being way more 🤨🏳️‍🌈❓ (Yunaka says “let’s be girlfriends!” when Etie asks to be friends, apologies in advance to whoever I decide to hit in the face with this later), Etie’s support has another example of them muddling the point a bit on Yunaka being a whole new person from who she was.

Etie (English): So I've got a lot of respect for the way you came out the other side. Etie (French): That's why I have a deep respect for you, because you managed to survive and become who you are today.

The English team keeps the idea that Etie can tell Yunaka has been through a lot, and that it’s a direct result of her upbringing, but the French makes it clearer that that person isn’t Yunaka anymore, that she not only survived but became someone different as a result. Larimar is still a person to Yunaka, someone she doesn’t particularly mind or dislike, but it is very clear that she is no longer her, reflected in how she always talks about her in third person (with Alear and Citrinne, consistent in both languages).

Citrinne:

Again, same for the most part. Nothing really changes here until their A support, where there’s some small wording changes.

Yunaka (English): Killing is just a job to her, not personal. Yunaka (French): Killing is a simple task which she carries out without getting involved (emotionally).

I like the French wording better because it makes her sound way more prideful (invested?) in her work as an assassin, while stressing that it is something that doesn’t bother her emotionally by the point she decides to give it up. While it is something that she did to survive and didn’t have a choice in, the game also gives the impression that she is good enough at it to be not only known, but for the implication to be that people are looking for her. Calling it a job as it does in English detaches herself from it a bit in my opinion, whereas in the French version it is very much a part of who she was.

Yunaka (English): She puts him down. Yunaka (French): She executes him.

Hi, remember what I said in her Alfred support about her feeling that her life in Brodia is something worth punishing? Here’s the punishment part.

In both languages she expresses that she hated her master, but did feel some sense of gratefulness towards him, as she doesn’t think she would have survived without his lessons. I think the language difference used to describe how she approaches his final job is so interesting, with the English version sounding like more of a mercy (as he was terminally ill), while in the French version she is punishing him for all the reprehensible things he did, while also cutting her ties with that life.

Yunaka (English): She gives up murder for hire, tries to move on with her life. Yunaka (French): She stops killing to survive. She tries to start a new existence.

Again, “murder for hire” from “killing to survive” sounds like a softening of the situation and a way to try and distance her being an assassin from her as a person. It also muddies the point again of Yunaka being a different, separate life (to her at least) from Larimar, and how much she truly does not consider herself that same person anymore.

Zelkov:

There’s a lot of really interesting things going on in the Zelkov support. I think the way that she talks about him here can definitely be reflected back into how she views herself. She also doesn’t make as many funny little Yunaka-isms when talking to him in French, getting straight to the point way more quickly.

Zelkov (English): I suspected you made your trade in violence Zelkov (French): I suspected you had a past marked by violence.

Again, things that are her at her core vs. “oh she had a violent job”. Her life was shit from the moment she was abandoned and sold, and it continued to be shit for a long time after.

Yunaka (English): You've got the same killer instinct I do. It practically oozes from your pores. Like slime! Yunaka (French): Your bloodthirstiness is obvious at first glance. It's literally dripping from your pores!

While still an exaggeration, Yunaka isn’t making a joke here like she does in English. They also tend to repeatedly swap “bloodthirsty” for “killer instinct” throughout the support line, which feels like softening the characters to make the people in the Divine One’s army just a little less murder prone. Yunaka also gets described as being more violent in combat in another support in French, which is not as emphasized in English.

Yunaka (English): So tell me, have we had similar careers? Yunaka (French): Maybe our paths in life are similar?

Shaking the localizers at this point. I think the draw of Zelkov and Yunaka having similar lives is so much more appealing than them just having the same job, why did you take this from me?

Yunaka (English): Look, you're a hunter. Everything you do and say is about the kill. Yunaka (French): You're a hunter, it's obvious. All of your actions betray the violence inside of you.

I feel like this this. Do you understand me?

They recognize the violence inside of each other because life has sucked for both of them and they are the products of their upbringing and yes “everything you do and say is about the kill” is the same point but why are we afraid of FLAVOUR.

Yunaka (English): That whole chapter of my life was pretty dang awful Yunaka (French): That part of my past still haunts me today.

Another thing that I think gets downplayed is the significant mental impact Larimar’s life has had on her and how it still affects her to this day, even though she is no longer in that situation. There’s a lot more about this in her following supports though.

Fogado:

This is one of the supports that acknowledges but also downplays the mental effects her life as an assassin has had on her. Fogado actually explicitly uses the term “trauma” when talking about Yunaka’s whole situation in their B support, while in English he just says “baggage”.

Yunaka (English): [...]You never know who's out for blood Yunaka (French): [...] You never know who's out for the kill.

This is minor compared to other things that grabbed me, but I think the little change of simply being out for violence vs. actively pursuing the kill is the type of distinction she would make.

Yunaka (English): Crowds make me anxious Yunaka (French): I'm a little agoraphobic, that's all.

Oh boy I can’t wait to send her to the Ethereal Ball next year because suddenly my haha little jokes I was considering aren’t so haha little funny anymore.

Panette:

This one actually had fewer differences than I expected, and they’re both super minor.

Yunaka (English): We’re not here to kill anyone, but if you’re here to be killed… Yunaka (French): I’m not here to kill anyone, but if you’re here to die…

The French version feels like she is claiming a more active role for what’s about to happen and taking more responsibility for her actions in the fight.

Panette (English): [...] that vicious demeanor! Panette (French): [...] that carnivorous demeanor!

Imagine being described as carnivorous in battle. Idk, that’s kind of sexy of her, let’s get you some therapy girl.

Goldmary:

Okay back to her mental health situation.

Yunaka (English): No one will be bothered if I go to pieces over it. Yunaka (French): No one will be uncomfortable if I have a crisis over it.

“Crisis” here is used in the context of a panic attack or a crying fit or something similar. The French version feels like it’s taking her reaction to the trigger more seriously, but also there’s something incredibly sad to me about the use of “uncomfortable” vs. “bothered”, and the idea that she has already deeply ingrained the idea that her ever diverting from the happy personality she’s created is something that would inconvenience and make the others uncomfortable is deeply upsetting to me. Girlie cares so much she doesn’t want people to know she has feelings.

Yunaka (English): The thought of housework makes me fall apart. Yunaka (French): The thought of housework makes me have a nervous breakdown.

The point is the same here, but the French seems to express more clearly and bluntly how much of an actual trigger this is for her, while the English version tries to lighten it a bit. You could also argue that this is her trying to portray it to Goldmary as not as big of a deal as it is, but I don’t think that makes as much sense considering she was the one to open up to and reach out to Goldmary in the first place.

Overall, the difference in translation tends to mark Yunaka herself as being just as violent as you would assume one in her job would be, while also being more open on the consequences this has had on her. I hope you all enjoyed my fun little assignment I gave myself when I had no work to do today. I don’t have an ending for this so here’s a fun little note: she calls out Goldmary for being a fake bitch (lovingly) in their A support which I think is funnier.

1. Who or what got you into F1?

i grew up in a pretty big nascar family, my family would put it on the tv instead of watching the kids and natural progression i fell in love with motorsports. i do think a combination of seeing the tooned cartoon and me being fascinated by the engineering in the cars dragged me fully into f1.

2. Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?

for me it was fernando alonso and jenson button. although jenson is retired i still watch him in his other series like nascar. i still support fernando as well although i feel like it passed the torch on to lando when he was the reserve for mclaren and then later took the seat at mclaren. if you cant tell im a huge mclaren girl.

3. Who’s your current favourite F1 driver?

lando norris and yuki tsunoda, cant pick one but yeah theyre my ultimate pookies 🫶

4. Is there a driver pairing or pairings you support? What made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?

my biggest driver pairing right now is lando and oscar, i think their pairing is what lando needed and what oscar needed and theyve already shown they push eachother so i cant wait for this season. my ultimate that i think about is fernando and mark tho, theyre my roman empire. from them always misisng eachother as teammates and then the infamous abu dhabi 2010. i could go on an essay about them (as a treat i also love nando and jenson)

5. Do your parents, siblings or relatives have a favourite driver?

no but i did get my friends and their cats into it. one of them is a ferrari fan and the other is a mclaren girl more leaning towards op81 but im gonna make her an ln4 girl soon. her cats are both mclaren cats but one only loves lando, she legit gets disinterested when someone else is on screen. one time she literally followed landos car off screen and my friend didnt even know that was lando so she was surprised her cat caught on to him.

6. Do you have any favourite races? Are there any that stand out to you the most?

i know i mentioned it before but abu dhabi 2010 is definitely one i watch a lot. 2020 austrian gp as well, even tho lando got the podium cause of disqualification it still holds a special place in my heart. Runner ups are silverstone 2023 and Abu Dhabi 2023 where pookies lead the race for a period of time.

7. Do you have a favourite circuit? Can be from the past or from the current calendar.

singapore is lovely, silverstone because of this year with lando leading the gp just really put it up there, and i think interlagos always has me excited, even if mclaren has a bad track record with it (please get your shit together for quali guys)

8. Have you ever been to an F1 race in real life? Feel free to tell us your experience going to one if you like.

ive never been to one theyre too expensive in america to go to one but i have been to a couple nascar races and those were so lovely. im hoping to take my friends and i to the suzuka gp next year tho (its so much cheaper please f1 sort your shitty pricing please)

no and id rather melt into the floor than meet one

i think the rb19 (rocky) has to be my fave rn if you asked me a year ago i would say otherwise but from an engineering standpoint rocky is the most beautiful piece of machinery ive laid my eyes on (excluding my beautiful b&m rollercoasters of course (my first love fr))

So for canon MCU Wanda, I always see her as a female-leaning bisexual and I tend to carry that over into my fics!

I feel like she's probably always known and never had any issues with herself; growing up there were a lot more pressing problems to deal with than if she decided she wanted to kiss girls sometimes. And then by the time she got her powers, well, if anyone had shit to say they were too scared to tell her and test her reaction.

She likes to tease Pietro that he copied her because he officially came out after she did, but his counterargument is that since he was born first, he's 12 minutes gayer than she can ever be.

I don't see a reason why I should share my character information but I also don't see a reason why I shouldn't...

Forgive me for loss in image quality and also I know that nobody will care about any of this and I have no idea why I'm still making art at all.

Well, anyway... let's get started. I'll try to update these character posts when I've written down more info.

.:Blossom Flare:.

Blossom Flare was born as result of her unicorn mother's experiment to create a dragon/unicorn Hybrid.

Due to complications her mother passed away not long after she was born. Her dragon father Frost, was no her only parent. After the death of Blossom's mother, her father grew to dislike the young Blossom as he saw her as one of the reason's his wife died. Frost took care of Blossom with slight annoyance. Frost home schooled Blossom and she wasn't allowed to explore much Because of this Blossom grew up to be a introverted and asocial girl. Blossom spend most of her time reading books, including books about magic. While Frost didn't forbid her from using magic, he didn't appreciate his daughters love for magic. Frost's trust in magic was damaged when his partner died due to the magical experiment, so he didn't want anything to do with it. However, Blossom became resentful of her father and practiced her magic in secret. Due to her own curiosity Blossom became a very talented witch. After a fight with her dad when she was 18, she decided she was old enough to take care of herself and fled to the unicorn lands to attend a magic school.

When she was in school she befriended Edgar, a crow with a passion for inventing.

(Okay, I need to fill in this part when she went to magic school. Ehh.. But now I got nothing. I just don't think this school drama was that interesting.)

Blossom grew up to be an independent person who seems confident despite her more introverted nature. After finishing school Blossom remains very determent to master her magic skills and started her own potion shop. Blossom lives at the edge of town near the forest. She seems to stay away from most people due to  her bad relationship with most people in the village she lives in, as she can a have bad temper and harsh attitude. These traits are somewhat common in dragons but is mostly a stereotype. Her behavior is likely a result of her upbringing. Despite this Blossom is a honest person. She greatly dislikes "sugar coating" stuff, for the people in the village this is another reason to dislike her but Blossom wants to stay true to herself.

After some time living alone she got herself a housemate called Moss Hope, a shy unicorn who struggles to deal with the world. Blossom is very protective of Moss and became a lot more open when it comes to talking about her emotions. The two women deeply care for each other. 🤨🏳️‍🌈❓

❓ #QOTD What high school superlative bests describe you now? ❓ 🦇 Bethany's reputation feels set in stone: Crybaby Bethany who tears up at everything, three-point shooter superstar, daughter of two moms with prominent careers in professional basketball. Unfortunately, that rep leads to getting turned down twice when she tries to find a date for homecoming. When her bestie Saylor pairs her up with the guy she's currently dating but can't attend homecoming with, Bethany agrees to go with Jacob as friends. Jacob's earning his own rep, after getting dumbed twice in the same month. After Saylor breaks up with Jacob, he and Bethany decide to start faking dating with the hopes of fixing their shattered reputations. What happens when they catch feelings in the process?

💜 Rebekah Weatherspoon provided us with an adorable YA that brings attention to so many topics we're prone to shrugging off. Bethany Greene is a plus-sized high school basketball player who has a family legacy putting unnecessary stress on her shoulders. Here's the secret: she doesn't actually WANT to play basketball. Bethany's real passion is cooking, but there's no way she can tell her moms. Guys seem wary about asking her out, too, especially when they find out Bethany cried after hearing her friend lost her virginity. Jacob, on the other hand, got dumped because he wasn't comfortable doing more than kissing; they're both perceived as "less" for wanting to experience a relationship at their own, comfortable pace. Though Bethany knows she's beautiful inside and out, it doesn't always feel like the world sees her plus-sized body that way. From dress shopping to feeling like people saw my weight as an infliction they could catch, I empathized with everything Bethany felt about her weight and then some. The high school emotions Bethany and Jacob felt were real, honest, and self-aware. Their goal of communicating through their fake relationship, to ensure the other's comfort while prioritizing consent, was sweet and far more mature than most high schoolers have the capacity for.

🦇 While I did think the story was cute, the pacing felt a bit off. The events leading up to the homecoming are too slow, when that's not the story's main conflict. Once we do reach that supposed stress point, there's a lull again. Though I'm happy Bethany gets her HEA, it also felt a bit too easy (the reveal about one of her moms certainly felt misplaced, especially given her few interactions with Bethany throughout the book). While Bethany does get her HEA, I wish we'd gotten more for Jacob's ending.

🦇 Recommended for fans of Nicola Yoon or the fuzzy feelings of a cute and fluffy YA. If you have a weak spot for fake dating, diverse casts, and supportive friendships, give this book a read!

🛌- Sleep hc: he has sleeping issues ESPECIALLY after years of having to sleep in a chair. But now that he has a bed again, as soon as his back hits that flat soft surface, he's out like a light🥺🥺

🏡- Domestic hc: everyone agrees with this but I'm saying it again! His sisters fuss over him so much and treat him like he's years younger than them❤ Alma too. And for most of his life, he was called "Brunito" by his family, he was only really called "Bruno" if he was in trouble😭

🗡- Badass hc- we all know he'll do anything for his family, he's so selfless, honestly whats more badass than that? He definitely pretended to curse people if they threatened them, being mean to him is okay... but speaking to his family like they owe you something? You're dead.
