4: describe your favorite character or characters

Well, my favorite character is Griffin so there isn’t much to describe there since she isn’t an original character. But the way I see her, she has a stronger moral compass than it might look at first even if her morals are still flexible, is super caring and empathetic, especially when it comes to her students and the reason why she was working for the Coven was because she was tired of dark magic users being looked down upon by the Council and, by extension, the entire Magical Dimension and she wanted change. Also, you can never convince me that Griffin isn’t secretly a romantic.

6: how do you get through writers block?

I honestly don’t know. I wouldn’t really say that I have quite experienced that lately. If I face difficulty writing, it is usually because I can’t find the motivation and not the words. But the other day I did kinda block on a scene because I have no idea what to do there. And when you don’t know what you’re trying to accomplish, naturally, you can’t accomplish it. So I did my best to figure out what is happening in the scene and where I want to take it,

The reason I think writer block happens a lot of the time is exactly because of that. Not a clear idea of what you’re trying to do. Now detailed planning doesn’t work for some people but the way I see it, I need to know what actions I am supposed to include and what turns the scene is going to take in order to be able to write it. There is enough mystery left since sometimes while I’m writing, the words don’t quite go where I wanted them and I am left to adapt the scene to the new changes but I do need to know what I want to happen even if not all of it ends up happening in the end.

I’d say that the first step to overcoming any kind of blockage when it comes to writing, is to sit down and examine the problem. If you don’t know what is the essence of your issue, you can’t find the optimal way to resolve it. So when I have a problem, I start out asking myself whether it is a problem with the actual writing or with my mindset and keep working on that until I’ve pinpointed exactly what is holding me back from working. Then I set out to see how I can fix the now clearly defined problem. It helps me but I can’t speak about anyone else.

10: what song sums up your current work the best?

My current project is the Domme AU. As for a song, this is going to sound weird but A Year Without Rain by Selena Gomez actually fits it pretty well. Plus, I’m listening to a lot of songs from the soundtrack of Fifty Shades Darker (the movie may be trash, but the soundtrack rocks and you can’t change my mind) while working even if I wouldn’t say that they fit to the T.

My Mind and Me: Selenator's POV

Hello!

Before I start my review, I just want to say that I rarely use Tumblr nowadays as I am mostly active on Twitter. I do not know why but for me, Tumblr used to be big for like pop music fandoms during my early teenage years (we kind of treat it like Facebook back in the day where we beg our batchmates to reblog our posts for more clout lol). But I've migrated to Twitter after that because of how big and active the Selenator community is there. So, I am so sorry Tumblr.

Anyway, I hope everyone who reads my review is doing truly well and fine.

Recently, Selena Gomez just released her documentary My Mind and Me on the Apple TV+ streaming platform and she has given us fans 2 months free of Apple TV+ so that we can stream (and also cry*)

*will reveal later

Before I actually start my review, I just want to give a back story as not a lot of people know that I am a long-time, loyal fan of Miss Gomez:

So, I've been a Selenator for 12 years now, became a fan on September 2010 after I watched the A Year Without Rain music video that was featured back then on the old YouTube homepage. I first knew her through Wizards of Waverly Place (duh; and also thought she's Filipino, but turns out she's Mexican) and the Falling Down music video which was shown in the local music channel back home. Everyone in the family and friends know that I am a fan.

So... that's that.

To start, I already know that there will be a documentary coming after I saw so many tweets from SG News accounts saying that Selena went back to her old elementary school back in Texas and some students say that they're shooting a documentary. Another sign that I also know that there will be a documentary is that, the year after the Revival Tour, there were rumours going around saying that it will be turned into a concert film. I actually held on to that rumour (because I have a feeling that it's going to come true) because I never got a chance to go to the Revival Tour during its Australian leg (my city got skipped 😭, hoping one day she'll come back like what she did with Stars Dance Tour*)

*She actually planned to do a concert in my city during the Stars Dance Tour, but sadly, it got cancelled to prioritise her well-being.

When the teaser dropped, I kind of have an idea on what to expect in the movie. I already know that there's going to be some emotional moments with regards to her Lupus treatment and also her mental health, which is a topic that she's very vocal about (that's why I said at the beginning that I'm going to cry).

So, a few days have passed and I have finally watched the documentary and here are my thoughts about this.

If you have not watched it yet, don't go past this. Lots of spoilers

Overall, the documentary was very eye-opening. As someone who has been stanning Selena for over a decade, I have never got to know her this deep.

The entire documentary is very genuine and honest. I am so proud of Selena to have that courage to tell her story and as a fan, I am honoured that this documentary has helped me to get to know her even better.

The following scenes were somehow my favourite parts (some of them don't but will say my personal reactions to it):

Revival Tour backstage scene This scene hits close to home and I can somehow relate to her. I also get these negative thoughts from time to time and I try my best to brush them off, but then there's still this invisible sensation that the thought will still linger in your mind... so basically, you'll still think about it and it'll somehow get worse to the point that it'll make you feel bad about yourself as you think of it more. That's what I assume she felt when she vented those thoughts to her friends (also, good on her for speaking out those thoughts). I actually cried during that scene because I feel very sorry that she gets these negative thoughts from time to time and also the fact that the media still associates her with something/someone else and not just by herself! and as a fan, it FRUSTRATES tf out of me.

Raquelle Stevens After I watched the doc, I am in awe of how Raquelle is such a good and loyal friend to Selena. She is really concerned and cared for her throughout her journey and she stayed with her throughout. Because honestly, it is definitely hard to find real best friends like that. Like, they'll still be there for you no matter what happens. But then at the same time, I am having second thoughts. Because, there was this one scene in the doco where she just walked in the hotel room and just ignored her, not acknowledging her presence. I do hope this is not intentional. But, when I watched that scene, I'm like... "Raquelle, you did not just do that?". Although it was this one scene, I was a bit annoyed because I actually had those moments where I just feel invisible around my friends or even to people.

Treatment scene The scene where Sel's getting treatment via IV just breaks me. The one before that scene happened is where I cried because she was in pain and it was very sad for her to go through that. Like, she did not deserve it. Also, the part where Selena mentioned about her Nana not wanting to accompany her because she'd seen the process enough just breaks me because although she wanted to be there, she cannot bear seeing her granddaughter in that state and this is also something that hits close to home.

Press interviews scenes BOI, I can feel Selena's emotions during those scenes and I totally agree with her, some questions are just very basic and answers can be basically searched on the internet. Like, everytime some SG news acc posted a video of Sel doing a Q&A with this magazine or company, majority of the time, I don't get to watch it because I already know that most of the questions are just very vanilla basic and repeated and honestly, they are so tiring. New generation of fans can watch it, but I know Selena's maturing and she wanted something more than "What is your favourite food/colour/etc?"... like, dig a little deeper and talk more about her advocacies and stuff.

Off-camera/IRL Selena scenes It was actually nice to get to know her roots in this doc. Where she went to school, the people that she get to talk to in the neighbourhood when she was a kid, the actual house she grew up in. It was very genuine to see what Selena is like. It was very nice to see some home video footage as well! The last time I saw it was back in 2011 during the We Own The Night Tour as some video footage used to be the opening visuals for that tour. (I watched it religiously as my way to prep for the Stars Dance Tour, but it got cancelled)

WE Foundation in Kenya I knew during those scenes that... that is where Selena is the most happiest and I love seeing her in that state. I can see it in her face that the Kenya trip was a big breather for her (with Raquelle keeping her grounded at the side, which is very kind of her to do) because not only that she gets to work with the girls but also take a break from the very busy lifestyle.

Again, the doco was very beautiful and exceeded my expectations.

You tried to sleep that night, you really did but all you could think about was the accident. 3 months ago on your wedding day Tom went for a drive with Harrison when a drunk driver struck the driver side. Tom died, Harrison lived. Not only was it very traumatic for Harrison to find his best friend since they were young unconscious by the wheel, but the fact that it was his wedding day. You thought it was all your fault, ‘why did we have to get married in that day’ you thought to yourself. You cried yourself to sleep that night with an aching heart. All you could mumble out were cries for Tom. “Tom, Tom baby please come back to me, please” you cried to yourself hoping he would come back and cuddle you right now, but it was impossible.

It felt like you were drowning, every one was able to see you but no one decided to help you. Hoping Tom would save you from your current depressed state but once again, it was impossible. You went downstairs to attempt to eat, you hadn’t eaten in weeks, months. Your hand was on the fridge about to open it when the doorbell rang. You opened it and saw Harrison.

I miss him so much I’m madly in love with him and I never even got to say goodbye, I never even got to say goodbye” your choked out repeating those last words. “ It’s not your fault Y/n, it was the drivers fault. You could have never known that would have been the day a driver came and took your fiancé, it wasn’t your fault” Harrison said, he had tears streaming down his face by now.

We want the old Y/n back or atleast to know you’re okay” Harrison had wiped the tears from his face trying to stay strong for Y/n. “ But i’m not okay I was going to marry the love of my life that day and I never got to” Y/n said with tears streaming down her face, she could feel her eyes starting to get puffy but she didn’t care anymore all she wanted was Tom. “Repeat after me, Tom is dead” it took a lot for Harrison to get thise words out of his mouth but it had to be said. “Y/n come on I know you can do it” Harrison’s eyes began to tear up again. “H-he’s de-dead, he’s dead he’s dead” Y/n was screaming at this point no matter how much it hurt for her to hear those words come out of her mouth. “He’s dead Haz, I want him back” she managed to choke out “ You will see him again, just not now” Harrison said to somehow calm her down.

Y/n asked Harrison to stay with her that night and he did. She eventually opened up to the rest of the Hollands and seeked therapeutic help for her depression. Y/n had gotten proper sleep and she was definitely doing better. Tom may be gone but she will definitely never forget him.

nnnngh I’m still on my learners and I hate driving HAHA but if I did listen to music while driving it would probably be from Lorde’s Melodrama and my song of choice would maybe be Green Light or Supercut because like... “in your car the radio up”

Ariel Winter

Winter has two scars under her boobs from her breast reduction in 2016, which decreased her bra size from a 32F to a 34D. She showed off her scar in a low-back dress at the 2016 SAG Awards. After fans assumed that Winter’s uncovered scars were because of a wardrobe malfunction, the Modern Family star took to her Twitter to let them know it was on purpose. “Guys there is a reason I didn’t make an effort to cover up my scars! They are part of me and I’m not ashamed of them at all. :)” she tweeted.

Francia Raisa

In 2017, Raisa made headlines when Selena Gomez revealed that the actor saved her life with a kidney transplant. The surgery left Raisa with a scar on her stomach, which she has shown on several red carpets. “Your scars don’t define you. It’s a part of your story. It’s a part of the story that makes you special and you different,” she told SELF.

Kaley Cuoco

In 2010, Cuoco was involved in a horse-riding accident that left her with two scars on her lower right leg. On an episode of the Late Show with David Letterman, Cuoco explained that she was riding a horse when she fell off and the horse walked over her. She has two scars: one above her ankle bone on the outside of her leg and a bigger scar running down the front of her leg. Because of the steel bars in her legs, which are more sensitive to the cold, Cuoco joked that she now knows when a storm is coming. “The good thing about that is I know when it’s going to rain,” she said. “I literally feel like I’m 110 years old. ‘The storms are coming.'”

Kate Middleton

Though hidden most of the time by her hair, Middleton has a three-inch-long scar on the side of her forehead, near her hairline. It’s unclear how and when the Duchess of Cambridge got the scar, but a spokesperson for Kensington Palace told E! News that “the scar is related to a childhood operation.”

Mary J. Blige

Blige doesn’t talk much about the scar below her left eye, but some reports claim that it’s from a fight, while others say that it’s from a traumatic event in her childhood. What is clear is Blige’s feelings toward her scar and how she’s embracing it—no matter what.

“If I don’t accept the scar on my face, the lips that God gave me, the big giant feet, the long legs, whatever it is that I’m deformed with, I got to love it so everybody else can love it. And I started loving it,” she told 60 Minutes.

Padma Lakshmi

When Lakshmi was 14, she was involved in a car accident in Malibu, California, which left her with a seven-inch-long scar on her arm. She wrote about the accident in an essay for Vogue, where she revealed that she was riding in her family’s red Ford Mercury sedan when it flew off the freeway and fell 40 feet down an embankment. “An ambulance carried me to the hospital. My right arm had been shattered and my right hip had been fractured. After surgery, I regained the use of both of them but was left with a long scar on my arm. It was half an inch wide and seven inches long,” she wrote.

Though she was insecure about the mark at first and worried her modeling career would suffer from it (she even went through treatments to try to lighten it), Lakshmi now embraces the scar for what it is. “I love my scar. It is so much a part of me. I’m not sure I would remove it even if a doctor could wave a magic wand and delete it from my arm. The scar has singled me out and made me who I am,” she wrote.

Princess Eugenie

Princess Eugenie made headlines in 2018 when she showed her scoliosis scar in a backless wedding dress. The scar was from her surgery at 12 to correct her scoliosis. She even invited her surgeon, as well as other members of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital who assisted in her surgery, to the wedding. During the ceremony, the princess also took some time to talk about her scars and the importance of showing them.

“I think you can change the way beauty is, and you can show people your scars, and I think it’s really special to stand up for that,” she said via ITV News.

Queen Latifah has a small scar on her forehead, near her hairline. The two-inch scar came from when she tripped during a game of tag with her brother when she was 3 and banged her head on the corner of a door. She never considered getting rid of it though. As she explains, it “gives my face character.”

“I tripped over the telephone cord and hit my head on the corner of the bathroom wall. I got three stitches. Then I fell on my grandmother’s steps and busted it open again,” she told New York Times Magazine. I was three. I was a clumsy child. I’d never cover it up, it gives my face character.”

Sandra Bullock

Bullock has a small vertical scar next to her left eye from an accident when she was a child, according to her IMDb biography. The actor got the mark after she fell into a lake and hit her head against a rock, causing the skin next to her eye to scar.

Fey was 5 and playing on the front yard of her home in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, when a stranger approached her and violently cut her cheek. At first, Fey thought someone simply marked her with a pen, but she soon realized that it was more serious than that.

The comedian said she wasn’t insecure about her scar until she started working in front of the camera, which is when she often asked directors to shoot her from the side. “I proceeded unaware of it. I was a very confident little kid. It’s really almost like I’m kind of able to forget about it, until I was on-camera,” says Fey, whose scenes are often shot from the right side,” she told Vanity Fair.

Martha Hunt

Like Princess Eugenie, Hunt also has a scoliosis scar down her spine. The scar came from her surgery when she was 18. At first, Hunt worried that the scar would ruin her modeling career and even asked the doctor for the “smallest scar possible.” “Once I graduated, I had the operation soon after. I told the surgeon I was a model, and asked him to give me the smallest scar possible. Even still, I was nervous about how clients would respond,” she wrote in an essay for Thrive Global.

In the end, Hunt never received criticism for her scar and she learned to embrace it. “I wouldn’t be who I am without my scars. What are yours? I urge you to wear them with pride,” she tweeted in 2016.

Carrie Underwood

Underwood made headlines in 2017 when she tripped on the steps of her Nashville house and suffered several injuries, requiring surgery on her wrist and 40 to 50 stitches on her face.

It wasn’t until about a year later when she showed her scar on Instagram in a throwback selfie of her makeup from her “Love Wins” music video. The picture shows Underwood with a small scar under her nose, above her lips.

Sarah Hyland

Hyland took to her Instagram in 2018 to show her stomach scar and urging her followers to do the same with the hashtag #showyourscars. Hyland’s scar came from her kidney transplant in 2012 to help in her lifelong battle with kidney dysplasia.

Kylie Jenner

Jenner has showed her thigh scar several times, including on her 2018 cover of GQ with her boyfriend, Travis Scott. But how did she get it? In an interview with Celebuzz in 2011, Jenner explained that the scar came from a game of hide-and-seek with her older sister, Kendall Jenner. During the game, the Kylie Cosmetics founder hid in a tall gate. But when it was time to get down, she slipped and a pole stabbed her in the leg.

“When I was about 5, my sister and I were playing hide-and-seek and I hid inside this really tall enclosed gate,” she said. “After a while when my sister didn’t find me I had to climb up on this sharp pole sticking out from the gate. I slipped and the pole went into my leg. I tried pulling away to get the pole out but it just tore through my whole leg. It’s smaller now, though, because I grew!”

Stassi Schroeder

Like Winter, Schroeder also has two scars on her boobs from her breast reduction. The Vanderpump Rules star, who got a breast lift and reduction in 2015, talked to People about how she’ll never photoshop them and why she did a photo shoot to highlight them.

“I was like, ‘Don’t edit out my scars.’ They’re awesome. I like being myself and I feel that everyone should embrace themselves,” she said. “It’s a scar! Scars are pretty! It’s almost like a birthmark or something like that where it’s something to not be ashamed of.”
