i also acknowledge that we don't personally know these kpop idols and whatever they show us is merely what they want us to see. the image they show is, naturally, a good one. they're marketed as stand-in boyfriends (and girlfriends), and companies tend to prey on fans' feelings surrounding that. i started listening to kpop/hardcore stanning groups when i was 12. since i was so young and vulnerable and craving romantic love, i was thrown headfirst into delusional-parasocial-relationship land and didn't even realize it until later...i definitely had to do some dismantling of that mindset as i grew up because i realized placing all of my desires in an unattainable idea of a person wasn't healthy. don't get me wrong, i'm still very much attracted to idols — like of course i am lmao, or i wouldn't be writing fanfics about them — but writing about them is more so an outlet to express the general romantic/sexual desires i feel than actually imagining myself being their gf

overall i'd say the path to un-delulu is more of a personal journey that you have to figure out yourself, but please take my opinion with a grain of salt because i'm an engineering major and not a psychology major lol, i know nothing about these things

no I get you so much here especially. Being a fan(girl) is so so much fun, you get to watch content, listen to music, learn about the members, go to concerts, collect merch, and meet other fans. There's a whole culture and community around it that, when you first get into kpop, it's so exciting. It's unsurprising people would get obsessed at first.

But yeah, I personally get really excited watching their content or over an idol (ahem haechan) when on my own, but whenever I meet them in person it's like all that excitement disappears and I'm like, 'oh, they're just a guy/person...', and it's really chill. I don't at all know how people think following them around, partaking in every single fancall, and getting overly excited and emotional would lead to them getting close with them.

I was thinking its such a recent issue among general internet spaces, I mean on one hand theres people fully deluded thatll maybe overdefend but on another hand theres people waiting for an idols downfall at the same exact time. I do think for instance yoongis dui was obvi a legit crime but ppl now using it to degrade all the things he has done for bts / kpop in general and asking him to leave the group despite being their main producer, then theres ppl that really do seem to only focus on either major flaws of idols like ones who overperform or underperform, what weight an idol is or isnt (changbin lately seems the main culprit as well as jeongyeon of twice) its like they cant win these days. I do blame beauty standards as well cause so much is abt the look of an idol than what they bring and it makes them seem like robots really.

visuals is a useless position for anyone in a kpop group cause it says ehh they aint got a particular talent or part in their group lets just say theyre the face of it then? like its so old fashioned / stuck up. I dont know if its only kpop but in general pop groups are treated like dolls or an object. I do think idols dont mind people doing readings on them cause its like an outlet away from those that are hard core stans but i dont think it has to always be abt whats on the outside of a person or who their fs could be.

I also think an aspect is that either its less about actually enjoying what idols do and release and more about who can be the next target of a witch hunt. its just got so childish over recent years and I try to separate the groups I love from the broken af system theyre in but to no avail its like another week another excessive piece of non issue drama is generated.

I always think balance is the key to a lot of things in life, and that includes being a fan of someone. people need to realise that idols can make mistakes, but thats all it is, a mistake. they don't need to tear his whole career down because he made one mistake. I also kind of hate how the kpop industry puts way too much pressure on visuals, and how it can sometimes seem to be more important than the work that they do. I do think they have a lot to learn from western culture in that regard with the entertainment industry.

I honestly try and distance myself away from as much kpop drama as possible. In 2020 I became a fan of nct as I really liked yuta, and I had a yuta twitter account with about 4k followers. almost every day there was always something new in the way of drama and it would usually be within the nct fandom, which I found was the most weird thing about it. everyone had a solo stan account (before I was a multi carat account, and I still love svt) so it was weird to see people having an account for only one person in the group. some fans of the other members would turn on other members of the group and say '___ doesn't deserve to be in nct' and I was like ???? they're in the same group and you're just hating on that member because they're not your favourite? it was just wild to me. I got so overwhelmed with how much drama there was and got such bad anxiety I had to close my account. I now just have a personal and follow a few kpop accounts that post mainly photos etc. I feel like a lot of people need to maybe do the same, bc my mental health really suffered that year

Ok so i came to the decision of unstanning groups.. yeah. Tbh its like i unstanned them months ago but rn officially took them off from my stan list :( its sad but.. i rly dont see the purpose of having their name there when i have no idea what theyve been up to for the last year lol

Onewe: lovee their music but yeah i just dont rly connect w the members.. rn i dont even know who is enlisted and who isnt like skjsbd

E'last: with the whole Thing ill try to support them but i cant rly say i stan them at the moment.. also didnt rly dig their latest releases

Verivery: this is kinda sickening bc they were one of the first grps that i stanned :( but im rly not into their latest music and i dont feel like catching up on them.. at all, theyre still my beloveds tho

Nmixx: im in a dilemma here srsly bc i Loved their first 2 title tracks but their lastest one didnt make feel anything at all.. i should listen to the whole mini tho, and the girls are undoubtedly talented

Billlie: very similar case to nmixx, eunoia is the contrary of what i liked billlie for.. but i need to listen to their other albums still. Im gonna wait for their next comeback

Ive: tbh there isnt a time when they didnt slay, i just have to listen to all their music to decide properly

Xikers: new addition! I absolutely loved their debut and this comeback just made everything better, i Love seeing them perform do or die i cant get tired of it

Kiss of life: another new addition, their mvs are literally cinema? im soo impressed and the music is so good i literally fell in love w them

So yeahh about the upcoming 5th gen post-boys planet groups.. idt ill stan tiot bc im only rly attached to junhyeon tbh, same with rbwboys; about blit however im def gonna stan them if i like the music. Ultimately, i will wait to see how i like their debuts

and yes i completely agree. fans will excuse things because they like their group and don't want to have to mentally challenge themselves on the actions of their favs - like as long as kiof make songs they like they'll defend them. the amount of comments saying they didnt care actually pissed me tf off because it's not abotu them!! at all!! i am neither black or hispanic and i was fucking apalled. neither am i a kiof stan so ig the blow wasn't even softened but i did really like igloo sighhh. this affected me as much as it did because this problem is SO PREVALENT in kpop fans and it needs adressing.

and yes totally agreed!! they need to apologise and own up and also. not do it again. like the apology gets a bit empty if ur saying it every month. and honestly it's such a disrespect like don't say you love your fans if you're not going to honour them and respect them?? it doesn't take much to just LEARN, and it's better for both you and your fans.
