Maybe because they’re a human person and not completely perfect? We need to stop putting celebrities on a pedestal and idolizing them for anything but their talent. They’re people, and people support problematic things without knowing every little detail about it sometimes, people say offensive things by accident, people grow up in unfortunate conditions. Celebrities aren’t gods, they’re people who are allowed to make mistakes. “But what about this thing they said in 2009!” That was 14 years ago and they’ve probably grown since then, do your actions 14 years ago reflect you as a person now? Absolutely not. “You’re a bad person for supporting this guy since he made a transphobic joke in 2010” and that guy now donates thousands to charities supporting trans kids. Y’all need to chill, PEOPLE CHANGE. A few bad actions and words that have been atoned for don’t make someone a bad person for the rest of their lives. Some people think way too black and white, they hear “This person did bad things” and think “They’re a bad person and their fans are also bad people” when in actuality it’s “This person has done bad things, but also countless amazing things therefore they’re a human who shouldn’t be idolized for being perfect but also shouldn’t be demonized for their past or have their hard work discredited.”

Listen up, fellow queers and token straights, we're not gonna whine about the lack of new media during the strike and we're not gonna waiver in our support of the strikers.

In the meantime, we are going to recommend to each other more already-existing media than any of us could ever watch given several lifetimes to do it in.

I'll go first. Here are just a few of the creators I care about and want you to support.

FREE TO WATCH:

Filmjoy: This YouTube channel (Movies with Mikey, Deep Dive, etc.) makes incredibly well-produced video essays on film and occasionally TV and games. The channel's focus is on positivity and finding things to love about everything. And YouTube doesn't promote that sort of thing anymore, so the channel's creators (one of whom has multiple sclerosis) are running out of money and close to losing their house. Binge these genuinely incredible video essays with adblock turned off or, better yet, sign up to their Patreon and binge them with adblock on. Seriously, I love this channel so much, and if they don't get a boost in income soon, they're going to have to stop making videos. And I want more videos. Seriously, even watch the videos about things you haven't seen. They've persuaded me to watch loads of stuff I never would have watched otherwise and they're very good about not spoiling things (and giving spoiler warnings when needed).

AyeForScotland on Twitch: This is Tumblr's very own very handsome pro-Scottish-independence @ayeforscotland who has an incredible accent and plays loads of interesting games. He's going for Partner on Twitch now, which he has already earned but been denied due to an absurd technicality regarding whether viewers being linked to the channel directly from Tumblr integration. Go follow him now if he's not live, and when he goes live, go to Twitch and manually click on his name to watch the stream, since that's apparently the best way to get him the boost he needs. He sometimes has @thebibliosphere on as a guest (DOUBLE SCOTTISH ACCENTS HELL YES) and you can watch archives of many of his streams on his YouTube Channel.

Africa Everyday: This YouTube channel is run by Babatunde, a Nigerian man who shares his life and culture, makes cooking videos, and generally is a pleasure to watch and listen to. Seriously he's one of the kindest human beings I've ever spoken with. The money he earns from the channel goes towards helping his family and his community.

CHEAP AND WORTH PAYING FOR:

Dropout.tv: You simply will not find better comedy entertainment for the money. A monthly or yearly subscription is just a few dollars a month and gives you access to countless hours of top-quality entertainment from a company that started their own streaming service rather than cater to YouTube's algorithm. This is the place that started as College Humor, but if you haven't seen them in a while, you really need to check it back out. They're incredibly inclusive in their casting and theming and the production values are insane. I recommend starting with Game Changer, a show which has made me laugh so hard I choked and almost threw up. They also have Dimension 20 (or D20), the highest-quality DnD series out there, with custom-made sets and minis, usually with a focus on sheer comedy rather than drama (most of the cast members are comedy writers or comedians) - but it WILL and I mean WILL make you cry now and then. The currently in-progress season of D20 is called Dungeons and Drag Queens and the players are four literal actual fucking drag queens including Bob the Drag Queen and friends? You need to be watching this. If you have any doubts about whether Dropout is worth it or don't have any money, you can watch many full episodes for free on the CollegeHumor YouTube channel, although they have to censor the swears on there.

Nebula: Remember Lindsay Ellis? She left YouTube because of [too many reasons to list] but it turns out she's still active, she's just on Nebula now. Nebula is the co-op of streaming sites. Users sign up for a low monthly fee and the income is distributed among the creators, weighted according to how many views they get. The videos are uncensored and ad-free and contain lots of stuff that later needs to be edited out of YouTube videos to avoid copyright strikes. They've got FilmJoy on there (remember them from the start of this list?), Philosophy Tube (@theabigailthorn), Jacob Geller, Extra Credits, and loads and loads of other stuff on all different sorts of topics. Many of these channels also have YouTube channels that contain most of their content if you can't afford a Nebula subscription, but Nebula supports them more and gives them more creative freedom.

There is an urban legend well known in this area regarding The Plant Man. Footage exists, blurry and ill-lit, of the trespassing fiend, but it never provides a good look at his face. He exists only as a rumor; a giggled whisper in someone’s ear at the pub, an inside joke at uni, and a viral sensation. None of these things mean he is not real. That being said, the only person who can corroborate the truth about the Plant Man is the man himself. And unfortunately, Anthony J. Crowley has no idea that it’s him.

It’s a very cute story featuring a beautiful tale of falling in love, but with some stuff that makes it extra special. It feels real, in a way, unlike many of the stories told in fan fiction (this isn’t a problem, just a statement of fact), and there are small things that make it mean the world to me. Gender non-conforming Crowley, neurodivergent Aziraphale, plus some extra bonus tropes, AND it’s ace… this is sweet and lovely :)

HEIST FIC! HEIST FIC!

This story is seriously amazing, and I love it to bits. It has art history, found family, snarky jokes, mistaken identity, and everything that comes with the pair being (thick as) thieves! I could rant about this for ages. Don’t test me. (Or please do.) It’s just amazing and unexpected and a nice breath of fresh air after reading so many tropes! (And I like those! But after staying cosy in bed for the whole day, you do have to let some fresh air in, and that’s exactly what this is!) There are twists and turns and plot turnarounds that will leave you dumbfounded, and things don’t necessarily turn out how you’d expect.

This also reminds me of wasteland, baby which I previously recced - it has the same basic atmosphere, but a very different structure!

Please recommend fics! I’ll admit I haven’t had time to read many in a few months, but here are my tastes:

I am a VERY BIG FAN of AUs (usually human ones). Give me them!! Coffee shop, fake relationships, social media, soulmates, anything! Of course I like other stuff - and I do have some particular soft spots, notably for the Bentley - so please do recommend anything that you liked, it doesn’t matter whether it’s short and complete, or long and ongoing, or any combination! I’m always on the lookout for recommendations of any sort, so I’ll take most anything (and if you have a doubt, rec it anyway!)

I'm gonna say this and make my peace with it but I am frequently reminded as someone watching from week to week when it comes to Only Friends, that it is so easy in a series like this to find yourself accidentally having bias toward some characters, pairings etc. It's very important that we always remain open to alternate perspective and that we remain able to pick out nuances in our favourites. Critique them when they cause trouble or make a bad choice and cheer for them when they find moments of happiness. For today, I am going to speak primarily about Sand because I've already seen a lot of a sentiment on YouTube mostly that he is justified in his scheming to reveal BostonTop and drag Ray into it and yet Ray is vilified for lashing out and pushing Sand off him in the same episode.

We have really got to stop woobifying characters like Nick and Sand and even Ray or Mew because we see them as the most traumatised or the ones with the uncaring lovers. None of them were meant to be the "innocent" character amongst the darkness. JoJo has always said all these characters are flawed and live in shades of grey.

I'm getting real tired of seeing Sand constantly elevated above Ray because one has to be worse than the other for some reason? Or seeing TopMew and SandRay pitted against each other when both have tormented romances. We can note the difference in how the relationships are developing without attacking one or the other. Sand can be the kindest and most sensible character in this series and he can still be morally reprehensible and wrong in other ways. Mew can be caring and hesitant and only want what's best for his friends and still get it wrong sometimes not out of spite but simply because he just doesn't know better.

We do not have to pretend that Sand is in the right when he isn't because we don't want to lose the Sand as a good person label. He IS a good person..he's also wrong for the mess he indirectly caused this ep. Y'all I'm a Sand stan, this blog is sandified all over. The man is me coded. He's a mirror to my soul for me. And I will still sit here and hold him accountable just as much as I would do for Ray when Ray fucks up. He made some Choices this episode and they were Bad. He prioritised his vengeance against Top over Rays emotions regarding Mew and that is Unkind.

Ray was Unkind to lash out at him and push him as well but to act like Ray was unjustified and deserves to be vilified for it is just... it don't sit right with me. He stooped as low as Sand did, he hit right where he knew it would hurt. It was tit for tat. The second Ray went into that meet up where Sand showed him the audio, you could sense Ray knew he was being used as a middle man. That shit hurts. This is the person he's been vulnerable with finally and he just got treated once again, by him, as someone easily influenced and gullible.

Sand used clever words to make it sound like he was doing this for Ray but it was heat of the moment. He was thinking purely of making Top taste his own medicine and eat his words. He wanted Top to lose Mew to prove the point that Top doesn't always get what he wants. Bonus if it meant Sand got Ray and could prove Top even more wrong because "who have you got?" Well now he has him. But honestly Ray was just a prize at the end of a long game Sand wanted to play there for a second.

It can be equally true that when he saw Ray was going to rain hell upon the group, he became more concerned as in his moment of Seeing Red he thought only Top would get hurt. He under estimated the fall out a truth like this would cause for everyone in that clique. Tell one harsh truth and a million more come pouring out. Ray got hurt because of this little ploy and he got a nasty awakening that oh yeah Ray is more important than some contest with Top, it can be equally true that he cares about Ray when Top isn't clouding his judgement and actions. That he didn't want Ray to endanger himself. That he would follow Ray and get him to a hospital safe after Ray angrily tries to take himself home under the influence because he feels betrayed, a black sheep to his friends.

But like it or not some of Sands actions this episode were still laced with calculation and manipulation and involved using others like chess pieces such as Ray and Nick, two people he normally cares about more than anyone. That moment when he smashed up his phone intentionally to get his hands on Nick's? Batshit insane behaviour. He was high tempered and irrational and he made a very big mistake because as I've said before these characters are portrayed as human young adults and it's what we do. No one is perfect 100% of the time. We all have a capacity for bad inside of us that most of the time we tamper. Sand was not able to in this instance. He caused mass destruction in a butterfly effect of one choice he made way before Ray caused more fallout with the truths he spilled.

Sands actions. Sands choices. Not just Rays or Mews. And don't get me wrong Ray was wrong too, he shouldn't have brought April and Cheum into it just to further a point. He should have just let Mew handle Top alone at home. But to be fair he'd spent all day and night being ignored by his friends for not being as blind in love as them, biting his tongue when Ton played along to insinuations over Nick and still got treated kindly after outright saying he had an ice cold heart when Ray knew just how true that was. Dealing with Ton making his emotions for Mew the butt of a joke again, belittling him. Sand using him to get back at Top and lying to Rays face or stonewalling him after they'd spent a week connecting more.

So it's no surprise he went since we're being honest tonight anyway maybe you all need to see you aren't perfect either. Sand set the spark that started this fire this time around. It's alright. All of them went too far and crossed lines. None are worse than the others. This show is not a competition between which partner in this couple is worse or more fucked up than the other. It is showing its audience what it looks like when two fucked up, flawed, morally grey, young adult and queer people fall into relationships and friendships. All of the couples are equally as wrong as each other for behaviours they exhibit when together.

It's subjective of course, everyone's personal level of what's wrong and what's acceptable is different and that's what makes this interesting. Something a character does may not be going too far for one viewer whilst for another it's absolutely appalling. The beauty of media. But let's not get so caught in picking teams that we lose our critical lens when we consume media. You can be rooting for Nick or Boston or Top or Sand or Ray or Mew! A combination! Have favourites! By all means pick people you'd love to see overcome these messy dramas and challenges they face. Just don't throw rocks at glass houses.

Hello! I encourage any who see this to read it. I've spent roughly two hours redrafting this.

We are a system and recently, one of our headmates was accused of being ableist. We would take this directly to them, but they did it anonymously. Before I get to what we've been lead to believe is the reason, I would like to point out that the system's body is disabled and there's not a single one of us who isn't disabled, neurodivergent or mentally ill in some way - including the alter who was accused of being ableist. The alter in question is autistic, psychotic, depressed, anxious, semi-verbal, hard of hearing, has PTSD, night terrors, sleep paralysis and has dyscalculia. The body itself has three chronic pain conditions, an autoimmune disease, a suppressed immune system, is hard of hearing, has kidney disease and is highly likely to develop some form of cancer before we hit our 40's. The fact that we, a traumagenic system, have DID needs no explanation, but here we are anyway. Despite this all, we have a job - it's not a good one by any means. We work, at maximum, an hour and a half a day and are frequently victims of casual ableism in the workplace (often to the point where our paychecks get held for a pay period because our boss doesn't like how we did something). Despite what little money we make (and the fact that we have to rely on food stamps, housing and disability payments), we donate portions of our money to various charities and relief funds, some of which include ones for disabled individuals, while also trying to survive and also save up for a graphics card so we can try and get a job as a youtuber and/or twitch streamer so we can leave our dehumanizing job. We don't talk about most of this because, to us, it feels strange having all of it out on the internet. It also feels personally wrong to talk about our donations. Feels like we're bragging, to be honest.

Now that our background is out for all to see, let's get to the point of the matter - the things that may have given someone the impression that at least one of us is ableist.

The first one I'll explain is simple - a post about how Discord servers that have blacklists often handle said things poorly, to the point where every possible topic you could talk about was on some of them, leading members of our systems to get triggered by things due to having to reveal all spoilers just to see what was being talked about. Nobody ever said that they were bad, just that, because of this experience, we don't feel comfortable in them.

The second is less easy to explain - a conversation (later dubbed a discourse?) about the canon-ness of Chell being mute. The alter in question has Portal has a major special interest and has since before the game even came out, thanks to our mom being a playtester of the game. I won't get into the details, but basically, the alter wanted to share some information and got a little overexcited about it, to the point where some people thought they were trying to say that having Chell being mute as a headcanon was awful and terrible because of canonical things - which was never said. In fact, the alter themself actually holds nonverbal autistic Chell headcanons close to their heart because they are semiverbal and go nonverbal when overwhelmed. They just also think that if there is canon information, it should be shared. The repetition of "my mom playtested the game" is an inside joke. It means nothing other than the fact that she played the game before other people. She uses it to try and get a laugh out of people, especially when it has next to nothing to do with the situation (like this one that I'm talking about right here). The alter does regret getting so excited about sharing the information and even apologizes to anyone who felt hurt by their words. I also couldn't help but notice an ask saying they were saying there was a "wrong" and "right" way to see a character - something that literally never got brought up until that particular ask - I went back and read the entire ordeal.

The third involves the beginning of the above situation - a simple statement that they find the "dangerous mute lunatic" line from Portal 2 hilarious, as they tend to call themself that in a lighthearted way (and also just find GLaDOS funny in general). I have nothing else to say on that one.

The alter in question is one of the kindest people I've had the fortune to meet. Unfortunately, in order to make people more comfortable and not hurt anyone else inadvertently, they've decided to step back from the blog that they created. To be fair, they rarely contributed to it these days, opting to let the rest of us run it and occasionally ramble due to things involving one of the system's abusers (moreso hers, but he's bullied the entire system off of previous accounts and sent us into hiding twice now).

Now, I personally wouldn't care about having words thrown around about us* if it wasn't for the fact that this entire situation has made the alter have a shutdown and fall into a delusion that our aforementioned abuser has found us once again and is going to try and hurt us. As such, I felt the need to clear things up. Again, I'd take this directly to the person, but they called us an ableist through an anonymous ask, so we really can't. I can only send this and hope that it gets posted and furthermore gets seen and fully read by whoever thinks we're ableist. I also hope it clears things up, because this is one Hell of an accusation.

*EDIT: Thinking about it and going beyond the irony of us being called ableist, it just doesn't sit right with me. Working on the assumption that it's regarding one of the three things above, the person is basically turning an overly excited conversation about Portal canon into evidence that we discriminate against (or even hate) disabled people. Aside from the fact that we ourselves are disabled, a scroll through our blog shows a lot of proof that we're far from discriminatory against our fellow disabled people - or anyone aside from discriminatory and harmful people (homophobes, racists, transphobes, ableists, maps, terfs, etc.).

Reality Shifting, or How To Travel the Omniverse in Five Easy TikTok Videos!

If you’ve been anywhere on the internet recently, you’ve likely heard about “Draco Malfoy TikTok”. It’s exploded in recent weeks — at time of writing, the hashtag #dracomalfoy currently boasts over 2 billion views. There’s a mix of videos and trends to be found within the #dracomalfoy tag: wholesome fan edits of clips from the Harry Potter films, PoV imaginings of what life would be like as Malfoy’s girlfriend, and general musings about just how unbearably hot he is.

In among these videos of Tom Felton being extremely, extremely fit, it’s not uncommon to stumble across a video explaining how you can literally be with Malfoy, through a process called reality shifting or just “shifting”. “Shifting is moving your consciousness from one reality to another reality,” this video explains. “You can train yourself to shift into an entirely different reality, such as Hogwarts.” There are shifting communities on apps like Amino and sites like Reddit, but it seems TikTok is home to the largest online shifting community.

The app’s hashtag #shiftingrealities has over 26.1 million views. While there are some videos from other fandoms, the overwhelming majority of these shifting videos are from Draco stans explaining how you can mentally transport yourself to Hogwarts. Interested? Of course you are. Well, there are two popular ways of doing this: “the raven method” involves lying down in a starfish position and counting down from 100 while imagining your desired reality, while the “the Alice in Wonderland method” requires the “shifter” to visualise themselves running after a person from their desired reality (for instance, Draco) and jumping down a rabbit hole with them. It sounds similar to lucid dreaming, but most members of the shifting community would argue that it’s far more intense and realistic than any dream.

Helen, 15, is a member of the ‘shifting community’ from Ireland. “I saw a lot of stuff on TikTok about shifting around a month ago and that was the first I’ve heard of it. I became very interested in it. I was confused at the idea of it at first, but I have a deeper understanding of it now that I’ve shifted myself,” she explains.

“Shifting is a very strange experience. It’s like an extremely vivid dream, yet it’s more real than any dream I’ve ever had. Before I plan on shifting I write myself a script in the notes app on my phone, in which I plan exactly what happens in the desired reality. This makes it easier to visualise exactly what I want to happen - so I might script that I want to go to Hogwarts and for Draco to be my boyfriend, or that he will flirt with me.”

LA-based Allison, 18, is another TikToker who’s dabbled in shifting. “I first got into Harry Potter in elementary school. My grandma loved the books and she would read them to us before bed — I always identified with the Slytherin house and had a crush on Draco,” she recalls. “Recently TikTok has reopened my love for the series.”

“Shifting is just something I found fascinating and I thought I’d try it out,” she explains. “The shifting experience is different for everyone. I see bright white lights flickering and my body begins to vibrate and go sort of numb. My legs will twitch and I’ll start to feel my thoughts get ‘lighter’. I’ll also hear people from my DR [desired reality] speaking - usually Draco.”

So what’s the science behind the strange phenomenon? Grace Warwick is a therapist with expertise in anomalous experiences. She says that this isn’t lucid dreaming, but is instead something called a “transliminal experience”. “Transliminal experiences occur when awake and are most common when the mind is in a soothed state - for example, upon waking and before falling asleep,” she explains. “The ‘instructions’ [for shifting] that abound on social media include being half asleep as a start point. They then introduce repetitive music [or] counting backwards slowly. All these factors would induce a state conducive to a transliminal experience. An interesting aspect of the techniques is the central part that a prepared ‘script’ plays - I would liken the role of the script to creating a guided meditation or working with active imagination.”

15-year-old Mavi lives in Florida and is another active member of both the shifting and Draco communities, boasting an impressive 149,000 followers on TikTok. Unlike Helen and Allison, she’s been into shifting for a long time. “Ever since I was little I have used daydreaming and lucid dreaming as an escape from my reality. About one year ago I came across shifting and I immediately felt drawn to it,” she explains. “Shifting feels like real life. I have only shifted to Hogwarts once [but] it was amazing. I made so many amazing friendships with the trio, Draco, Luna… it was the best time.”

Mavi says that she considers shifting a “hobby” - it’s clear she has a lot of varied interests, and shifting isn’t something which dominates or interferes with her day-to-day life. “I don’t wish I was in my DR full-time because I have so many things to live for in my CR [current reality], like acting and modelling.”

Evidently, Helen, Allison, and Mavi are all happy and healthy individuals, but Warwick says that these experiences can be different for different individuals. “For the vast majority, the current trend is simply the next iteration of our relationship to altered states — enjoyable and seemingly magical — but I would urge a sense of caution,” she says. “Key indicators to seek mental health support would be if the ‘shifter’ experienced anything that created fear for them, or challenged their belief system regarding what we could refer to as ‘consensual reality’. Also seek help if there is any ongoing drifting into altered states outside of intended ‘shifting’ sessions.”

Thankfully, as Warwick points out, “the vast majority” of shifters have a good experience: she says shifters can return to their current reality “[feeling] revived and energised by an experience that fitted with their belief system and experiential limits”. It’s also clear that both the Draco and shifting communities foster a healthy online space. “[The community] is actually a really nice environment and a great place to talk and express your common interests with people,” Helen says. Allison thinks “it’s definitely one of the kindest areas of TikTok”. And honestly, given the shitshow that 2020 has been, I think a (largely) wholesome community of young women who are all simultaneously Draco Malfoy’s girlfriend is the last thing anyone should be concerned about right now.

*Definition of some terms:

Derivative works- anything (like fanarts or fanfiction stories) that has copyrightable elements

Doujin works- you may have heard of doujinshi! 同人 (doujin) literally means 'people of shared interests', so doujinshi means a self-published magazine that caters to a specific group of people. Bintroll used the term 同人作品 (doujin sakuhin).

Ero-Guro- エログロ (eroguro) is a Japanese term based on the english words 'erotic' and 'grotesque'. It mainly refers to works that has elements of horror/gore and sexy/erotic scenes.

*Some additional information: (these are my own words based on previous statements from BinTRoLL)

× Please refrain from DM-ing Siruko-san, as he has said that important messages get pushed down.

× Depending on the streamer's rules, it causes some conflict when you mention BinTRoLL names in other streams. For example, Mintosu-san has strict rules about mentioning other streamers, but Limone-sensei doesn't mind. However, some fans may feel uncomfortable if other streamers are mentioned in the stream they are watching (ex: "Siruko-san started streaming now!", "Siruko-san did this and that!") It's a difficult area to navigate, so for me I'd rather not mention BinTRoLL in other streams as a general courtesy. If the streamer brings it up, it's all good. Still, it depends on the streamer themselves.

× Try not to ask too personal questions. Out of all of them, Siruko-san is the most likely to answer personal questions, but other members? Not so much. Try not to ask Siruko-san for other member's personal information too. A good rule of thumb is to let the members bring up the information then follow up on it rather than outright asking them (do not DM for the love of gods!)

× Believe it or not, people do actually ship BinTRoLL members (like me! teehee!) Some post FAs and fanfiction (believe me, I’ve seen both Japanese and Korean ones) Bintroll shipping is termed "nmmn" in japanese; it’s kinda like they're not just 2D charas and they're real, so shipping is hidden and found only by fujoshi fans. Of course we know it’s just our imaginations, and we know the limitations and boundaries. There’s a thin line of shipping real people, and we know better than to cross the line. That’s why I started this tumblr, after all, because I can never comment on YT or tweet so much about shipping, especially that public. All my shipping posts will be tagged as such and will have warnings, so you can steer clear of that. But just so you know, BinTRoLL said it’s fine to make BL, so if anyone comes to me criticizing my shipping posts, I’ll slap the BinTRoLL guidelines in their face. 😆

× Please, and I cannot stress this enough, do not pressure the members to appear. Remember, they do streaming for fun; they do have lives and work outside of this. I get what you feel, you have a favorite member and you want to see that member all the time, or you want to see them in complete attendance, but don't be greedy. I've been a fan long enough to always see questions like, "Where is this member?" or "This member hasn't appeared in a long time." and some push it to the extreme and DM BinTRoLL (yikes!!) Let the members appear when they want to and be content with it.

Let me tell you my observations. Mintosu-san is not the type to talk about himself, so you might notice he only appears to play games. He has his own MCup with his fans every Saturday too. Then, there was a time when Ichihachi-san was busy with his real life (I call it The Great 18san Drought), and during that hiatus many fans always asked where he was. Even Hakotaro-san gets these questions, and he is the type to prefer working behind-the-scenes.

Now, let me tell you why it's better to let them be from my past experiences. Whenever Mintosu-san appears in the videos, the feeling of great joy from the surprise is amazing. It's like, "Hallelujah! YATTA!!" When Ichihachi-san came back, everyone had a field day and kept rejoicing. It was a party! When you, out-of-nowhere, hear Hakotaro-san's greeting during a livestream, you'll just suddenly go "AAAAAH!!!" and it's the best feeling ever. The feeling of being pleasantly surprised is nice, because you don't expect anything so you were never disappointed. It's better this way, trust me. After all, everyone performs better if they're not pressured, and BinTRoLL are people too like us, so it's better to let them do their own thing and enjoy whatever content we get.

× Siruko-san has mentioned that it's okay to comment or chat in English (or any language), which is great for us international fans! He said that he's not that good in English (although I believe he's good enough) that he may not always understand it though. However, and these are my own opinions, please remember this before chatting and commenting in English.

Use simple english that's easy enough to understand.

Do not use sarcasm. It does not translate well.

Always, always be polite. Choose your words carefully.

Why do I say this? Sometimes I see English spams and I cringe. The difference between cultures can be great sometimes, and Japanese is known for the politest way of speaking, and they are often straightforward with their words. It's better to be careful than accidentally offending someone, right?

× Regarding distribution and sales of official works, this may be a gray area and it's difficult to explain. For example, you can use BinTRoLL character images which are the intellectual property of the creator Hakotaro-san and by extension of Bintroll, to tweet or even to screenshot and DM it to other people to discuss. You can also clip video highlights and share them on your sns. I think that the moment you profit from it, for example, selling keychains and mugs with official Bintroll art, or re-uploading whole Bintroll videos on youtube or other video-sharing websites, is where you violate the rules. As long as your use is for community-base and personal use, you're safe, but when you gain something official from it (like money or subscribers), that's not allowed.

BinTRoLL members are one of the kindest people ever. Siruko-san always hearts and reads comments on their Youtube, and he also used to like or RT every fanart and even follow back his followers (but he can't do it right now as Twitter almost froze his account). They even read the names of superchat donators at the end of each stream even if they don't really have to (and sometimes it takes hours!) That’s why I hope people won’t abuse their kindness. I hope people follow the guidelines (seriously, it's not that hard) and do not cross the fan line so that we can all get along with each other! In everything you do or say, remember to have manners and be kind, and surely you'll enjoy even more. ^^ 🥰

Class 1-A and Music

What are everyone's favorite genres/bands?

Midoriya- Obviously loves movie soundtracks. They take up most of his study playlists and make him feel better when he doesn't feel good enough. If you asked him his second favorite genre, however, he'd e hard pressed. He relates a lot to the emotional lyrics of songs that bands like Set it Off or TOP release, but also admires the knowledge of music theory that comes with writing classical music.

Uraraka- Enjoys energetic soundtrack music, but also loves Imagine Dragons. When she and Kirishima work out together they listen to a lot of Warriors and Believers. When she and Bakugou spar they listen to the most dramatic, drum filled music they can find.

Iida Tenya- Listens to a lot of classical music, but has a secret. When he's alone, or only with his close friends, he knows more rap songs than you would think. He's naturaly indisposed towards speaking quickly, with clear pronounciation. Thus, Tensei began training his little brother in rap songs, which he got from Hizashi Yamada. However, it is Iida, so whenever there's a curse word he replaced it with a much nicer word.

Asui Tsuyu- Is a chillstep person. She also listens to a lot of nature sounds at night. She's very atuned to nature, so listening to rain sounds or waves is extra soothing for her.

Todoroki- Was never that into music, until Jirou of all people introduced him to Twenty One Pilots and Billie Eilish. His favorite song is Ride now.

Bakugou- He does not blast his music. Whenever people hear loud music they assume it's him. It not him. He actually uses music to train his hearing, and thus keeps it at 2 decibels when he doesn't use his earphones. He's gonna have just as good hearing as Shoji- and Jirou, f you. Listens to a lot of angry punk music, but QUIETLY.

Kirishima- As mentioned earlier, he loves Imagine Dragons, and has been trying to convert Uraraka and Bakugou to Classic Rock. However, he proudly know the lyrics to every single Taylor Swift song, courtesy of Hagakure and Mina.

Kaminari- He appreciates a good dubstep, mostly since it goes with his electric aesthetic. However, he and Mina share a love of American Pop and K-Pop which no one in 1-A can rival. He also finds 8-bit music super fun to listen to (and bug Bakugou with).

Sero- Has some of the most diverse music tastes. He appreciates chillstep, classic rock, and indie music a lot, but his parents listened a lot of classical guitar while he was growing up and it stuck with him. He listens to it a lot at night when he's trying to go to sleep. Mina has also force-taught him several K-Pop songs.

Mina- All pop. All the time. Every day. She's one of those fun people who's always jiving to SOMEthing, whether it be music in her headphones, a beat in her head, or her or someone else humming. She and Kaminari often get together and have mini dance parties, and she's been able to teach her fellow Bakusquad members a few of her favorite songs.

Jirou- ALSO doesn't blast her music. If she did, she'd blow her earjacks out! She has a love of Angry Punk Music as well, and recently Shinsou got her into a band called Set It Off- and she's been listening to Wolf in Sheep's Clothing on repeat for the last few days. Jirou actually really enjoys listening to things on repeat. It gives her a chance to really listen to the various instruments, percussion, the way the vocalists express themselves, etc.

Yaomomo- Grew up with classical music constantly in the background, so if you're listening to anything remotely classical, chances are Yaomomo has heard it. However, Jirou convinced her to try listening to Imagine Dragons (her easiest entry band to the more angsty music) and Yaomomo has been so! Invigorated! By 'Warriors' and 'Believer!' She's definitely going to listen to more.

Ojiro- Is right with Sero in classical guitar. He finds instrumental music and culturally traditional music interesting and oftentimes soothing. It's one of the things he tries to share with others, although of them all only Midoriya, Aoyama, and Hagakure have really sat down and listened attentively with him.

Hagakure- Isn't quite as obsessed with K-Pop as Mina, but has one or two favorite groups, namely Red Velvet and Astro. She's very open to most types of music though, and is willing to give anything a listen at least once.

Koda- He doesn't listen to very much real music, but when he does he listens to classical music(something he hadn't thought of until Momo suggested it). However, he lives for Ambience Mixer, and has several self made tracks of forests and river scenes to listen to while he studies or sleeps. He really likes having white noise in the background to focus.

Shoji- Prefers the sound of silence to music, honestly, but a year or two ago someone gave him a pan flute, and he practices it religiously. He finds its origins fascinating, and the sound calming (when played correctly). It's one of his few and favorite personal possessions.

Tokoyami- THIS ONE. HE IS THE ONE WHO BLASTS THE MUSIC. He is obsessed with Screamo and Punk Rock, let's be honest. He listens to every album the second it comes out. He also has carefully curated playlists on Spotify for every emotion a person could feel. 'Eternal Banquets of Darkness?' Check. 'Difficult Homework Rage Focus?' Check. 'Dark Shadow Got Out of Control Recovery?' Double check.

Sato- Listens to podcasts, not music. He has to have something in the background all the time, but prefers to listen to baking podcasts or video game playthroughs. If others are playing music nearby though, he doesn't mind listening. The only music he doesn't like is Screamo, Tokoyami.

Aoyama- He's up for anything- as long as it has those magical percussion chimes that sounds like magic (y'all feel me? I forget what they're called). The people who have the most luck with him are Izuku and Ojiro. He occasionally attempts to dance with Mina and Kaminari, but he usually throws the glitter too hard and gives himself a cramp.

Mineta- Doesn't listen to music as much as stupid reaction videos on YouTube. It's usually about the newest weeaboo pillows or posters, but he enjoys it enough to listen to it more than anything else.

Shinsou- Mostly listens to Angsty music, but at this point can't tell (and doesn't care) whether it comes from actual angst or aesthetic. He enjoys it, whatever. However, he's slowly grown to appreciate indie songs writers, and his favorite (positive) song is Chrysanthemum but Amber Rubarth.

Teacher Bonus Present Mic- The first thing people think of when they see Present Mic is Pop, right? Well that's only partially right. He has entire albums of rap songs memorized, so he has plenty of material to work with when chasing criminals. His personal favorite is Kindest Regards, by Witt Lowry.

“Damsel in distress” vs “Dude is disposable” in video games

Troy Leavitt has just delivered another great essay on the issue of Ideological Reciprocity in Video Game Criticism. In this video, he questions the notion of the Damsel in Distress trope as proof of the Patriarchy at work, considering the disposable role attributed to the men tasked with rescuing those damsels at the cost of their lives.

This is an obviously relevant topic, considering how charged the issue of sexism in video games has become in recent years. We should all acknowledge that it’s very important not to minimize the structural dysfunctions of our society when it comes to many forms of inequality, such as regarding gender or race. However, it’s interesting to notice that these “social constructs” affect not only women, but men as well.

If women are expected (or sometimes allowed) to have a passive role in society – such as represented by the “damsel in distress” trope – men are expected to “prove that they are men”. Troy’s reference to WWI’s white feather symbolism is a very good illustration of this, and we can witness it in our everyday lives. Society will likely value the athletic and the military type, but disregard the shy book-reading teenager, the sensitive poet or the male ballet dancer. And, often, failure to comply with the expectation to “prove that you are a man”, for simply not conforming to the conventional expression of manhood, can validate external abuse and bullying.

Our society is embedded with these structural distortions, and we all feel them in one way or another during the course of our lives. The problem with the type of confrontational militancy advocated by Anita Sarkeesian is that it thrives on dividing society into segmented identity groups, instead of bringing people together to rectify them.

The secondary factor, equally objectionable, is that this divisive approach is supported by a manipulative discourse that tries to conquer people by telling them that these societal dysfunctions are entirely responsible for their individual circumstances – “Everything is sexist, everything is racist, everything is homophobic”.

Now, that particular quote by Anita Sarkeesian has a context and can be interpreted in different ways, including the possibility that she no longer fully identifies with this thinking –  to what extent, we don’t know. However, this is Sarkeesian’s actual description of the mindset that is promoted by the academic doctrine she derives from. And that’s why this discourse has an almost evangelic expression in its supporters. Because it tells you that “society” is to blame for “your” personal circumstances, clearing you out from any obligation to face your own choices and shortcomings.

Anita Sarkeesian’s confrontational approach to Boogie2988 on Vidcon, after he stated that, in his opinion, the issue of online abuse was not just a women’s rights issue, but a human rights issue, is extremely revealing of her ideological extremism. This is an overweight man that was the victim of physical and emotional abuse in his childhood, and is one of the most inspiring and kindest Youtube influencers in the world. This is a man that has experienced online abuse himself, including death threats. And, yet, Anita Sarkeesian was offended by his testimony, because it didn’t fit the narrative that she’s promoting. Or are we to believe that a guy like Boogie2988, with his past history and weight condition, is more privileged than Anita Sarkeesian, because she’s a woman and he’s a white heterosexual male?

Bottom line: people like Anita Sarkeesian are blinded by fundamentalist ideology and incapable of seeing the real world in all its contradictory complexity. No attempt to establish dialogue will change her mind. In the end, it’s not a matter of reason, but faith.

Take Me On The Floor Freestyle Story by Stella Carrier

Disclaimer; I must once again emphasize that my writing of the freestyle stories and the articles I share are done with competition free intent. Rather, these activities are done to help provide a safe and creative outlet for my spirit and to help me be the most creative and imagination person I am more than capable of being. Additionally, what I write in my stories is independent from the fact that I feel blessed with my current job and my husband who stands by me through both challenging and good times. I understand that I already stated these things yesterday in longer detail, yet something in me influenced me to emphasize it at least one more time. I am truthfully unsure if he sees my googleplus, but mu intuition is guiding me to also credit one of my encouraging/supportive online friends (Holger Hildebrand) for giving me the idea to post one of the Daily Meal articles and two of the weight loss stories I found this week into today’s freestyle story.

Inspired by the song Take Me On The Floor by The Veronicas

                Martin Foster is a researcher at a weight loss company in Switzerland that specializes in weight loss for people who are looking to lose at least 30 pounds or more. Martin Foster’s company caters both to people who have been overweight all their life and people who were naturally skinny the first 20-30 years of their life and then gained weight and now want to regain their trimmer body despite the odds that they know they must overcome not so much for their skeptics but more for themselves.  Anyhow, one of Martin Foster’s latest clients is named Roxanne Johnston.

              Roxanne Johnston is 24 years old and is a lookalike of the female singer in the online video of Close Your Eyes by Novaspace. Roxanne Johnston lives in Zurich Switzerland and has fortunately a close relationship with both of her parents who are just 16 years older than her. Roxanne’s parents Catherine and Roland fortunately have overcome the odds stacked against them for marrying so young at just the age of 16 for her mom and 17 for her dad (a month before Roxanne was born)and with minimal support from their families. For years, both Roxanne’s parents worked as school meal supervisors and have fortunately been promoted through various grade and middle schools in Switzerland. Roxanne’s mother looks and dresses like Taylor Swift did for her music videos Style and Wildest Dreams. Meanwhile, Roxanne’s father looks like Jared Ledo from Thirty Seconds to Mars and he was even inspired to become a songwriter after hearing the Stranger in a Strange Land song by Thirty Seconds to Mars.

              Roxanne also feels compelled to lose the weight because she works around very attractive and self-confident coworkers who made her realize that she needs to try harder to get skinnier even 6 months after followed her parents to their new business (more on that later in the story). Anyhow, Roxanne fortunately is able to keep in touch with three of the coworkers. One coworker resembles the lead singer of Velvet who sang the Fix Me song, another coworker who is now a publicist for musicians looks like Kim Leoni who sang the Medicine song. The third coworker of Roxanne is a mother who has had four children but you definitely would not know it unless she told you because she resembles one of the women who seduced a rich playboy in the song Holy Virgin by Groove Coverage.

              Roxanne decides to get some sleep for the next day before her scheduled appointment with Martin Foster (who resembles the lead singer Brent Smith of Shinedown in the video for State of My Head). Roxanne has an interesting dream where she meets Madonna for a fan after concert party and gets to even meet all of her children including her newly adopted twin daughters Esther and Stella. For whatever reason, she also dreams that she goes to her bank and discovers that a long lost relative gifts her with a writing workshop in Nashville, a temporary makeup academy, and is gifted with a trip to Napa Valley in scenes that looked similar to a Robb Report magazine she was looking at while waiting for her groceries to be scanned at one of the grocery stores near where she lived.

              What Roxanne sees next gets crazier and makes her cheeks blush red upon awakening. Roxanne falls through some type of rainbow on a mountain seeing her astral double in some type of adults only club that would make even some viewers of the popular Fifty Shades of Grey series blush (things couples only do in privacy behind closed doors that are best left off this post). Roxanne blushes even further when some man who she has not yet met in her earth life tries to reach out to her as she lands on the ground at the end of the rainbow as he smiles and says you are going to see me again in the future. However, even after waking up five minutes later, Roxanne intuitively understands that she must keep the physical description of the man a secret from even the most well-meaning and kindest psychic who would ask her even with the fact that she has not yet met this person.

              After Roxanne wakes up, she realizes that she has an appointment to see Martin Foster in just 6 hours but she is scheduled to help her parents set up their Sandwich business that is just a five minute walk from the house that she lives in right next door to them (their money investments as school meal supervisors paid off to where they were able to gift her with a paid off house at the age of 23). Roxanne’s mom Catherine has been scouring various articles online for help in ensuring that the new sandwich business is a success (which it has been so far for the 6 months it has stayed open). Additionally, both Catherine and Roland (Roxanne’s parents) decide to take ideas for their sandwich business from the Good To Go sandwich place of Zurich Switzerland and from a U.S. based article via msn-The Best Sandwich of Every State. Both Catherine and Roland even have life coaches who are also psychics who have passed along some articles that have helped in their sandwich business idea while keeping their school meal supervisor jobs regarding financial habits of successful entrepreneurs from Entrepreneur magazine and an article about whether or not to work with coworkers in an Inc. article.

              An hour later, Roxanne has helped her parents Catherine and Roland with the sandwich making of their new business and is excused to go speak to a psychic named Erin Webb who is a recent transplant to Switzerland from the Washington D.C. area. During the phone session, Erin Webb helps Roxanne understand that her dreams are showing her some potential on what can take place if the does at least two goals that she has been waiting too long to do due to waiting for more ideal circumstances. Of course, Erin Webb gives the 24 year old Roxanne much more information that she has to avoid disclosing outside of her reading.  

              Roxanne realizes that she has been putting off writing her book until more ideal circumstances and a trip to the Monroe Institute in Virginia that she has been wanting to do for at least two and a half years but something always came up that allowed her to make excuses on putting off just these two goals alone not to mention other secret dreams. Towards the end of the session Erin Webb emails Roxanne some articles for weight loss encouragement such as the stories of two women who were able to transform their bodies with just walking and a more careful diet.

              Before meeting up with Martin Foster, Roxanne gets to work on at least five pages of her novels using some online article ideas that Webb gave her. Roxanne looks at two different articles from Entrepreneur magazine that give her ideas on coming up with more ideas for her book. Roxanne also looks at an msn article on airport lounges on different ideas to look into for the type of airports to zoom up on when she visits the U.S. Last, but not least, Roxanne looks at a Business Insider article on the best places in the U.S. to live not to relocate from Switzerland (especially from her fantastic parents), only to maybe look at ideas for where to visit in the United States for the summertime either before or after she visits the Monroe Institute.

              Roxanne goes later to see Martin Foster who is able to personalize a meal and supplement plan to help Roxanne reach her weight loss goals in a timely manner. Foster also gave Roxanne an article to give to her parents, which was a Daily Meal article of the Most Powerful People in Food (both for Roxanne for her story ideas and for her parents for business ideas as Foster is also friend of the family). To be on the safe side, Roxanne aimed to achieve her weight loss goals in the span of 9 months. However, Roxanne was fortunately surprised when she was able to achieve fit into her size 2 clothes less than four months after she committed to a meal and supplement plan. Additionally, she was able to get her book completed and published nine months later and she was pleasantly surprised how quickly it was selling on Amazon.com even with the fact that it was not published under her real name but a pen name to disguise her identity Last but not least, Roxanne was able to visit the Monroe institute 10 months after she made a decision on when she was going to aim to do it regardless of at first getting through the initial how. Roxanne was even able to take her parents Roland and Catherine along with her because of the large financial windfall that came after her book was successfully published.
