I got tagged by @atasteforsuicidal and @do-not-careissa several days ago and LOOK AT ME, I actually remembered to do a tag meme

Favourite story you’ve written so far: drive home to you. It’s mostly an excuse to have an angstfest, but a lot of the story is drawn from things that I’ve witnessed in my own life. Amidst the comments yelling at me for making them sad, there’s a couple peppered in from people who feel Seen in a way that they usually don’t find in fiction. And, you know, I get that. The reason I write is because I’m not finding the types of stories that I want to read.

Plus, for someone who writes mostly pwp, it’s validating to know I still have the skills to make people cry.

Fic you were nervous to post: Hmmmm. HMMM. I would say... oceans between us. Which I meant to finish when I posted it but, smh. The second part is lying around in my wips somewhere. I put a LOT more effort into this fic than I usually do, and I was scared that some elements might not come across the way I’d intended. It’s the first fic that I actually sought out a beta for.

How do you choose your titles?: Sometimes I’d already have a title in mind, or at least a theme that I wanted it to encompass. Like, for leave your lights on for me, I knew I wanted to touch on the element of light, because Kyle was the torchbearer and it’s told from his pov, and like... he’s agonizing over Jason and Roy’s relationship, whether the lights are still on, if he can enter that door. ... more often, though, I finish a fic, go, fuck, and flip through songs until I find a line that can work as a title.

Do you outline?: When I do outline, it’s very loose. For longer works, I do this thing where I sketch out a few scenes that hit the emotional high notes, and then I go in and fill the blanks around them. I... should outline more. It’s a skill that needs practice, but ughhhhh outlines hard ):

heeeey do you have any advice for newbie writers?

writing advice for newbies!

disclaimer: the advice i’m going to give (funnily enough) is not something that i always personally do. i’ve been writing both fiction and non-fiction for years, i only came to tumblr because i wasn’t satisfied with how i kept pressuring myself to write “high literature” after gaining awards and recognition for my stories. my fanfiction here in this blog...it’s unrefined, definitely not what i used to write before because i’m a lot less serious about it and i’m just writing freely. but the advice i’ll list below is personally some stuff that has helped me a lot in my entire writing journey! Some are technical, some are personal! down below will also list some tumblr related writing advice! 

1. Keep writing! No one is born a great writer. Before I actually started publishing/posting my stories, I remember I spent at least five years writing the most random crap just so I can get a feel for what my style is. Plus, the more you do things repeatedly, it’ll come eventually like second nature to you and you’ll find the words are flowing. Keep writing, keep writing, keep writing! Even if you’re not satisfied with your first work, that’s okay, just keep going on!

2. Be mindful of what tense you’re using. NOW I KNOW I DON’T REALLY FOLLOW THIS BUT THAT’S BECAUSE I DON’T EDIT MY FICS LMAO, but you could totally do this! So in writing, we have “voices.” The narration will always use tenses of whether the entire story will be past tense or present tense and it’s important this remains consistent in your entire story. This one is TECHNICAL, this just help improves the flow and formality of your story. As for me though, I don’t really care about the tenses anymore because like I said, I just write freely with no regards for “creative writing techniques.” an example of past tense is: Suki jumped to Naoya’s arms. “My love!” she called, wrapping her arms around him. (RIP EXAMPLES) and present tense is: Suki jumps to Naoya’s arms. “My love!” she calls and wraps her arms around him. (this could be real flexible tho, this is just an example ehehehe)

3. Be mindful of dialogue tags! There’s a huge difference between putting periods and commas after dialogues. Like for example, “Suki loves Naoya,” she declared. If it’s followed by an action, the comma is best. Or example, Suki said, “I really love Naoya.” If the statement can stand alone, then it can be “Suki really loves Naoya./I really love Naoya.” There’s better explanations here! And one more thing, you should put the commas/periods inside the quotation marks. There’s more variations/explanations here but generally, this way of writing,,,example: “Suki really loves Naoya”, LIKE??? if it’s a dialogue, put the commas/periods inside the quotation marks.

4. PARAGRAPH BREAKS. I cannot stress this enough. There should be a variety in the sizes of your paragraphs. Long paragraphs should be followed by smaller ones, varied with medium paragraphs and then so and so forth. There’s no formal sequence that it should be LONG – MEDIUM – SHORT – MEDIUM – LONG, writing is flexible, just make sure you’re varying the lengths because reading long, chunky paragraphs with no end is equally annoying as reading paragraphs that are always 1-2 sentences and then a paragraph break.

5. Outline, outline, outline! Whether it’s long fics or short ones (excluding drabbles, I don’t think you need them that much) outlines will help you have a more solid feel of your story, and you can easily track your story flow when you have your ideas plotted out. or me, my outlines is in the form of Dialogue Outline, where I write out all the dialogues first so my pages will be just conversations then I’ll add the monologues/actions later. That’s personally what works for me, you can discover your own writing style <3

6. Research! Now this is pretty funny for me to say this because I don’t really do research, at least not the “how to effectively write this type of role” or whatever. Of course it’s better if you try to learn more about the concept you’re going to write about (like if you wanna do a vampire AU then read Twiligh – JK THAT’S A BAD REFERENCE, SORRY NOT SORRY, love the memes tho!) or you can do my own way of researching, which is reading other people’s fanfics! Not only do you get a vibe of how this character is like, but you also get to support other content creators!

7. You don’t need verbs all the time. Sometimes I see stories wherein ALL dialogues have “said” “screamed” “explained” on EACH line and here’s the key: as long as the readers can understand which character is speaking, you don’t need dialogue cues all the time. 

8. PUT THE KEEP READING TAB. I cannot stress this enough, but please put the keep reading tab. Drabbles are fine without them, but if it exceeds maybe 400 words then you’re going to need that. Sure, it’s easy to scroll past a long text, but some fics are super long and without the keep reading tab that it can be quite a hassle to whoever sees it.

9. Have your own writing safe space. Now this could be more personal than technical, but I absolutely cannot write or focus when I’m in a public space or when I’m being bothered. So if you want to write, SHUT THE WORLD OUT and dive deep into your imaginations, let the noise of your fantasies be louder than distractions.

10. Take your time! I guess that would be my best advice. You don’t have to rush anything at all, and one more thing, DO NOT OVERTHINK! Maybe this is just me but I honestly don’t really try to dive too deep in the technicalities anymore :// I’ve been in Creative Writing class for years and it stressed me out that my writing teachers always told me “not to use big words because no one will understand that” or “don’t try to paint the picture too clearly because not everyone has that big of an imagination” and I was like ISN’T THAT THE POINT THOUGH, TO MAKE PEOPLE IMAGINE THINGS? but yeah anyways, maybe this is just me again, but I find that I write better when I’m not overthinking too much on how to write a “perfect” story. I don’t always have the prettiest words to use. I don’t always have the most intricate plot. I don’t always have the most poetic content that is “inspiring” or “moving.” Sometimes I write stupid shit that has no plot at all, and that’s okay. Just write whatever you want tbh, I’d say my biggest advice is to not worry too much about having the “perfect” story. It’s still great to do research and want to improve your writing skills, but hmm...I guess I’d say the most important thing is that you enjoy what you do!

11. “There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” – Ernest Hemingway. This is one of my favourite quotes because it’s true, writing is both complicated and simple, but as for me, writing is something that I don’t want to stress too much about. There isn’t really an actual right or wrong, there isn’t a law, just some techniques that could help you improve, but at the end of the day, it should be about the steady state of progress or the “creation flow” that matters the most. Just write, that’s it. You’ll get there eventually and you’ll start creating magic before you know it. Just let the words flow and build, worry about quality later when you edit it. Or you know, if you’re lazy like me, just post it when you’re done LMAO. really though the BEST advice is to enjoy the process and not stress too much about it!

Summary: You Facetime Tom after finding out from fans he cut his hair. Your phone was off while you were landing home from a flight.

[Reader’s POV]

“So how was your trip?” Your mom asks happily through the phone. Reaching for your bag out of the carrier you tell her to hold on. Sometimes she calls you at the worst times. She onetime called you while Tom and you were having sex and wouldn’t stop calling till you picked up. Your mother was relentless sometimes.

“It went well mom, I’m just back to be in London” admitting the truth with a smile on your face. You loved it here because you got to live with the love of your life.

“How’s Tom doing? Anything new since Spider-Man Homecoming?” she absolutely adored Tom, she claims he’s the best you’ve had out of the guys you’ve dated.

“Yes he’’s actually working on another film, he’s been gone for two weeks while I was away as well so we’re both out and about” you explain as you walk down the plane aisle. You could hear her talking to your dad about Tom. Mentally wondering why she just doesn’t put you on speaker so he can hear too.

“Hey I’m going to go so I can focus okay? Plus Nikki is picking me up from the airport with Tessa”  Saying your goodbyes you hang up your phone. Slipping your phone into your purse you make your way out of the gate. The sound of your suitcase clicking against the bumps in the carpet.

   Walking past people to head towards the baggage claim. Looking at the time on your Apple Watch you walk a little faster. Nikki said she would be here at a certain time and you didn’t like making people wait. Turning the corner you go down the escalator descending to the baggage claim.

    Hearing a bark makes you search the crowd of people. A little grey blob pushes people out of the way. Nikki’s red hair standing out as she took off after Tessa. Opening your arms you get tackled by your favorite dog in the world. Her tongue laps at your face making you giggle.

“Tessa my love, I missed you so much” her body wiggling in your arms as you tried calming her down. People were looking at the interaction the two of you were having. Grabbing her leash you stand back up.

   Nikki opens her arms to you which you gladly take her hug. She gives the best hugs in the damn world. Letting you go she kisses both of your cheeks , she’s like a second mom. Tugging your free hand she pulls you along. She took your extra suitcase even though you tried to take it but she insisted. Leaving thankfully no one was outside, if Tom was with you it would have been a lot worse. He draws big crowds full of his loving fans.

“c’mon Tessa lets get in the car”  opening the door for her she jumps inside. Taking your backpack and purse off you set them on the floor of the car. You hear clicking sounds and turn around to see people with cameras.

    Getting in the car you close the door annoyed with the cameras. You don’t know how Tom does it all the time, it’s got to be truly exhausting having your every move watched. Even his family has to deal with it. Nikki tells you to ignore them and starts the car pulling out of the parking spot. Tessa jumps back onto the seat and lays down next to you.

   Smiling down at her you place your hand on her head. Your thumb stroking her head slowly to her ears and repeating it. Watching as her eyes closed from your touch. God you love her so much, probably more than Tom.

   Taking your phone out you see notifications pop up. Clicking on them you see Tom’s tweet and your heart stops. Going to his Instagram you see he hasn’t posted anything. Clicking on his tagged photos you see his fans posts. Scrolling through they’re all freaking about his Bye Bye Hair tweet.

   Exiting the Instagram app you open your messages and clicking on Tom’s name. Looking at the messages waiting for some sort of explanation. Typing and retyping the message you want to send. Normally he keeps you updated but he hasn’t said a damn thing. When he does that you start to feel like a fan yourself and freak out.

    Locking your phone you know it’d be a while to get a message back if he was on set. The ride home was filled with conversation about your trip. The two of you talked as Tessa slept peacefully. Nikki told you stories about the boys and how mischievous they’ve been. She says Paddy has been getting into the sweets more and has grown a sweet tooth recently.

   Checking your phone you see there’s still no text back. You ask Nikki and she explains she has no clue. Apparently Tom hasn’t even told her which she thought was odd. You knew it was very odd because he’s such a momma’s boy.

   Nikki drops you off at Toms and helps you with your stuff. After you and Tessa are all settled she tells you to come over for dinner. Apparently Harry has been working on something and wants the family to see. He knew you were coming back into town so he told Nikki to tell you since you’re practically family.

   Hugging Nikki goodbye you shut the door behind her as she leaves. Picking your phone off the table you see notifications again. Some were from Harrison and your friends messaging you. The messages consisted of screenshots asking why Tom was cutting his hair.  Your thoughts get interrupted by your ringtone you made for Tom. It was him saying quackson.

   Rolling your eyes you connect your phone to the charger. Your phone starts ringing flashing ‘Meme King wants to FaceTime.’ Clicking the answer you see Tom relaxing with a hood on his head. Normally his curls peep out which make you narrow your eyes trying to see his curls. His smile distracting as he cheers happily to see your face.

“Ah there’s my beautiful girl, I’ve missed you darling” his voice making your heart ache, you miss him so much.

“Hey baby, I’ve missed you more..” you pout looking at him snuggle deeper into the couch. You could hear Harrison in the background talking. Tessa’s tags jingle as she jumps onto the L shaped couch.

“There’s my little one! I love you Tessa soooo much” Tom cooed into the screen making a kiss face.

“Tom so are you going to tell me what that tweet was about?” You ask turning the screen back to you. The seriousness in your face made his smile fall.

“I uh.. well I can’t keep it a secret from you anymore” He pulls the hood revealing his hair of cur.. there are no curls. Just short hair that he fixed with his hand. Your jaw dropping at the sight because last night you talked to him and all the curls were there.

“Christ, you don’t like it do you” Tom sits up fixing the angle he had the screen at. You were in shock because you haven’t seen Tom with short hair, the only pictures you’ve seen are from when he was little. Nikki likes to show you pictures from her archive whenever you see her.

“N-No baby, I’m just thrown off is all.. you look very handsome I’m just going to miss the curls” you give him a smile as you see his features relax. Did he really care that much about what you thought of his hair?

“I know how you like gripping onto them when I go down on you” he sighs tilting his head back. Your cheeks tinting pink from what he just said.

“Oi! I’m right here and you’re going to talk to her in front of me like that man? you two are like rabbits” Harrison’s voice fills your ears making you face palm yourself. God dammit Thomas.

“It’s the truth so now she has to wait for them to grow back” Tom defends himself laughing at his best friend. Harrison pops up behind Tom flipping you and him off.

“Awww Hazeroonie don’t be mad you don’t have a sex life” you tease sticking your tongue out. Harrison lets out a small scream taking off out of the frame.

“Okay yeah I’m definitely going to miss your curls now” you sigh thinking of the last time you two were alone together. Your thighs clamping together tightly at the thought.

“I’ll be home when I can love, I’ll FaceTime you every night till were together.. then when I’m home you can give me some personal FaceTime” his smirk making your heart rate pick up again.

“PLEASE GET A ROOM THOMAS” Tom’s head is then hit with a pillow causing him to drop his phone. In the background you hear the two getting into a little fist fight. Knowing them they’re going to sound like children any second with their banter.

“cut it out you twat I’m talking to my girl right now” Tom huffs after a slap sounds echoes through the air. The phone is kicked around making the room look like it’s spinning.

“Ow don’t pull my hair!” Harrison whines followed by a thud. Laughter filling the air making you sigh. These two were actual children.

   Tom picks up his phone that fell from before. Harrison says he’s going to the store leaving the two of you alone. The two of you talk about how long it will be till you see each other again. It was hard while he’s away but you really enjoyed these FaceTime calls. It was the only time you’d see him when he wasn’t busy and it made the wait worth it.

Dave Portnoy Lost 1.6% of His Crypto Investment, Then Liquidated His Bitcoin

Dave Portnoy famously entered the Bitcoin and crypto market last week with the help of the Winklevoss Twins.

He originally bought $250,000 worth of digital assets, $50,000 into Chainlink and the rest into Bitcoin.

The video of him buying this cryptocurrency went crypto-viral as many acknowledged the significance of his entrance into the industry.

While he was initially up on his investment, he liquidated his Bitcoin and altcoins on Friday.

Portnoy claimed that he didn’t like losing money, though he later clarified that the loss was relatively small.

What Pushed Dave Portnoy to Sell His Bitcoin? A 1.6% Loss, Apparently

On Friday, Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports and a celebrity Bitcoin and stock day trader, revealed that he was exiting the crypto market. He wrote in a tweet that went viral in the crypto space:

“I currently own zero bitcoins. I will wait and watch. I lost 25k. Just like with the stock market it took my brain time to figure it out. I know this. The Link Marines are weak and the orchid flowers do die in the crypto world. I may or may not be done.”

He added in a separate message that he is getting “killed” with Bitcoin, adding that he was up $150,000 at one point but is now down.

Portnoy clarified a day later that he actually lost $20,000 from his initial $1,250,000 investment, which amounts to a mere 1.6%. Many in the cryptocurrency space referenced the number, noting how Portnoy wasn’t ready for the fast and volatile Bitcoin market.

According to the investor, though, losses of any kind of magnitude are unacceptable as stocks “only go up.”

Will Portnoy Be Missing Out on Anything?

Portnoy exiting his positions in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies raises the question if he will be missing out on anything, any potential upside.

According to a number of analysts, he will be missing out on exponential upside in the BTC price.

Dan Tapiero — the co-founder of DTAP Capital and Gold Bullion International — recently noted that Bitcoin could gain 400 to 900 percent this bull cycle:

“Tremendous long term Log Chart of #Bitcoin projects up 5-10x on this run. Just breaking up NOW. Should last a few years as 2.5yr consolidation is fantastic base for catapult up. Break of old highs will have explosive follow through. Time to sit and be patient.”

Raoul Pal echoed this. The Wall Street veteran commented that BTC is likely to be the best-performing asset over the next two years.

And I already had bad posture walking, beside sitting, standing and just being alive. Also I still want to shit my pants a bit when I have to cross the road, especially larger ones. Is there a snack you like to eat while writing?

Nah I don’t really like to eat while I’m writing cause then I gotta worry about not making a mess everywhere, not getting crumbs on my laptop...too distracting. I usually keep a can of soda or something nearby though. Writing is thirsty work lol.

What time of day do you usually write?

The bulk of my writing is done 10:30 p.m. or later. At that point the rest of my house has gone to bed (and technically, I’m kinda supposed to be in bed too lol). There’s no noise, no one looking over my shoulder or bothering me, no other responsibilities weighing on me because the day is over. I don’t have anything else to do. 

Where do you write?

I curl up in bed or (if it’s still daytime) sit on the floor. I like the aesthetic of a writing desk but I’ve tried that before and I find it too stiff and uncomfortable a way to sit. Anyways my desk has become a place to collect all the junk I don’t want sitting on my floor so there’s no room there rn anyways XD 

How often do you write a new fic?

I went through a Young Justice phase where I was writing a new fic every couple of days but...now it’s like once every 400 years lmao. YJ gave me inspiration for tons of short stories but now the majority of my ideas are multi-chapter fics and I’m either too lazy to work on them or I haven’t planned far enough ahead on them that I feel it’s worth it to start writing them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do you listen to music while you write?

Rarely. Usually I find it too distracting because I start singing along and I can’t follow the words and write at the same time. The only time I managed it was recently when I was writing Rest and I put on a kpop playlist. Since I don’t speak Korean and couldn’t understand the words it just became background noise. //I listened to it nonstop for two weeks while I was writing that fic and now when I hear some of those songs it literally gives me flashbacks and suddenly it’s December 20-something at 2 a.m. and I can literally see what chapter I was writing. It’s almost unsettling how strongly my brain associates those songs with that fic now.// 

Paper or laptop?

I prefer writing on my laptop cause then I can backspace and rewrite stuff easier. With paper you can’t go back and redo a whole scene without having to like. Frankenstein pages together if you know what I mean. You can just insert the new stuff where it goes, even if it takes more space than what you originally had there. Unless I’m away from home and have no other choice then sometimes I’ll write on paper. I do prefer to outline my fics on paper, tho. Cause then I can just carry the outlines with me, work on them wherever or have them in front me while I’m actually writing and not have to bother switching between Microsoft Words tabs.

Do you have a special pre-writing ritual?

Not really? Just little things like if I’m writing in bed I gotta adjust the pillows just right first lol. Otherwise halfway through my back and neck start to ache. I also gotta make sure I have all my notes/outlines handy so I don’t have to break concentration and go looking for them if I forget something in the middle of writing. A lot of times I’ll open an internet tab ahead of time since I usually have to look up a lot of little things while I’m writing. Set up music beforehand if I’m gonna be listening to anything (best to pick a really long playlist or set it on repeat because it ruins my concentration if my music cuts out halfway and I gotta stop writing to restart it). Also sometimes I like to have the wiki for whatever series I’m writing open beforehand, too. All your character/location info in one handy spot. Like for Rest I made sure I had the YJ/DC wikis open to my main characters’ pages before I started most nights so it didn’t take me any longer than necessary to find what I needed to keep writing. My pre-writing rituals are less about getting into the mood and more about making sure I don’t have to break the mood once I get into it. //Because my writing mood is very fragile lol.

What do you do to get into the writing?

Idk...July talked about “maladaptive daydreaming” and after looking up what that is I realized I do that too. Like, all the time. I guess mostly I have to have it quiet and I have to have a little bit of time to, yes, daydream and sort of put myself into the story before I can start writing. Unless I’m going through an obsessive phase with whatever series I’m writing, in which case it doesn’t take me long to get into the writing at all because I’m already there. //And probably have been for the last three weeks lmao yaaay obsessive phases.// Also if I’m continuing a story I started a previous day I like to reread everything I’ve written to sort of get back into the flow of it. 

Do you have a reward system for word counts?

Nah. I hardly ever write as it is, and my word count varies wildly from one round to the next so I don’t see the point. The sense of accomplishment I get from writing anything at all is usually reward enough for me lmao.

Is there anything else about your writing process your readers don’t know?

Uhhhh idk what else there is worth knowing. I edit my stories, even my finished and posted ones, constantly, because I like to reread them but every time I do I find another typo or missing word ;_; //I do this on everything I write, tho, even simple Tumblr posts. For instance I’ve reread this entire post no less than four times checking typos and whatnot.// Otherwise that’s about it.Oh I also do a lot of sketching for some of my stories before I start them. I was writing a Mikenana fic that took place in winter and I literally designed outfits for like 7 different characters before I started writing. I’ve designed school uniforms that will never actually be mentioned in the fic, and obsessively rewritten seating charts. Besides the seating charts, everything was just minor details that didn’t matter hardly at all in the actual story. But I’m a very visual person (and an artist before a writer) so I have to be able to picture everything going on pretty clearly or it just doesn’t work for me.

Pet peeve? I have mentioned this before, but people moving too slowly on public transport. Even when I’m not in a hurry it drives me mad. 

Good advice? Always read the manuals for your appliances cause I found out yesterday that I’ve been scrubbing my oven like a chump for a year and a half when it has a self-cleaning function.
