Uh. I have a lot to scream about re: Vashwood in Vol. 8. This is the volume that, on my first read, fully converted me to a Vashwood Believer, had me screaming crying at 8 am. I still got all hysterical reading it again. "You are not lost... Wolfwood" changed something in my brain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I JUST. AAAAAAHHH. Wolfwood feels like he's dying, there's no hope, he is utterly lost, and Vash swoops in to answer his literal prayer - no, you are not lost. You can change. You can be forgiven - in fact - there is no need for it, because you are not your past. All that matters is what you choose to do in the here and now. And of course, Wolfwood saves Vash from the Ark, then Vash helps them escape... they're fighting in tandem again, saving each other over and over, expressing how much they care for each other over and over...
Just get married already.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ADKJFHSJLF THIS IS STRAIGHT OUT OF AN ACTION-ADVENTURE ROMANCE NOVEL??? BATTLE HUSBANDS??? WHAT?
Also, "Wolfwood, I owe you for so much, don't I?" Is just. Fuck, dude. Vash is terrified of losing Wolfwood in this moment and he's thinking about how far he would go for him. He owes him so much - Wolfwood changed him so much. It's not dissimilar to how Vash feels about Rem's memory - he feels like his entire struggle is to make up for her sacrifice, for what she taught him about hope and determination. Remember the parallels with baby Vash and Rem vs the Vashwood "shoot" moment?
Then Chapel begs Vash to stop, and Vash is like, "think again motherfucker, I'm actually considering murder this time" which is. HUGE. Local pacifist comes face to face with the person who destroyed his loved one's psyche and he's seeing red. For Wolfwood, would he pull the trigger? Would he exact revenge, would he ensure Chapel and the EOM by extension could never harm another child?
"He is all the reason I need to keep on fighting" is just. AGH. Just all pure Vash, too, no prosthetic arm, no red jacket, no gun, even - just his plant powers. Elendira tells him he's throwing his life away, but Vash doesn't care. He'd gladly give his life for Wolfwood. If that isn't love then I don't know what the fuck it is.

A: Visit to the Filming Set (2023)
"I visited the set of Playful Woman. I visited with the production company CEO and greeted the director and actors.
Because the weather was hot, we also sent a coffee truck to cheer them on. I went with Jun-soo and only Jun-soo took a certification photo…lol
The production company's PDs kindly guided me around the set so I was able to tour it all.
I didn't take any pictures because I was worried that someone might appear for an unreleased drama, but I looked around Ji-hwan's house, Go Yang-hee's office, Mi-ho's house, etc, and it was all so interesting.
I used to watch a lot of outdoor filming when I was a drama fan, but this is my first time on a set….
Ji-hwan's office and home really smell like a Romance male lead. Meow’s office was luxurious. Actually, seeing the appreciation plaque with Go Yang-hee's name on it was kind of amazing hahaha
(I will delete spoilers from below on haha)
On this day, Ji-hwan, Eun-ha, Dong-hee, and Il-young were on set.
Unfortunately, I guess Mi-ho and Hyun-woo actors didn't have any filming that day, and I was curious about Yena too...And the actor who played Miho's father is someone I like, so I was sad that I couldn't see him ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
First, I greeted the actors, watched them film, and got their autographs during the intermission after the scene ended.
First of all, our Eun-ha, Han Seon-hwa.
We happened to be filming a scene where Eunha was just throwing her heart out to Jihwan, and she was really pretty and good at it! He said it was amazing seeing the original author for the first time haha.
Before I met Uhm Tae-goo, I knew from entertainment shows that he was very shy, so I tried not to talk to him lol, but contrary to my expectations(?), he welcomed me very warmly.
When he signed it, he said, “I’m a lot smaller than you thought in the original…” (ㅠ_ㅠ) “No, you’re so cool!” I said that and I meant it lol.
He looks great on screen, but he's really cool in person.
I didn't get to tell you, but at the beginning of this year, I was actually wishing for Taegu Eom to have a huge success…
By the way, TMI but my husband's name is Uhm Tae-*, so Mr. Uhm Tae-goo is like no one else lol.
The next autograph is actor Yang Hyun-min, who plays the role of Jae-soo among the group.
Actually, the names and lineup of the characters are different from the original, lol. At first, I didn't know what their roles were. Sorry.
"But this author is a washout huh? I asked, and he was surprised and said, "The author is the best... How could I possibly say the author is a washout..."ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
I also got the autograph of DKZ Jaechan, who plays Donghee.
ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Among the writers I'm close with, there's someone who enjoyed Jae-chan's dramas, so I had to brag about it, so I looked for Jae-chan's autograph diligently, and he was resting on a chair that looked like a male protagonist (you'll know him if you watch it on TV). Actually, before this Junsu came back from the bathroom and said, "There are two really handsome guys in the bathroom." I found out that one of them was Jaechan. As expected of a professional idol, he was really pretty and handsome.
The last one is Il-young, actor Kim Hyun-jin, who I loved the most in the original work.
He's really handsome, of course, and his tall height and his face is… small. Lol.
Since there is a tall person in my family, most people don't think as tall, but found out that I am really tall… and later I looked up his profile and found out that I am 189cm tall.
Anyway, our Il-young is cool from the visual standpoint. He said he hasn't signed much yet and was wondering what to write as a comment, so I just said, "I love you", and he really did lol. Now that look, he even drew a heart.
Il-young should've just been mine… I made him get with Mi-ho for nothing (groaning)
I greeted you warmly and finished my visit to the filming set.
The production company gave me the script for episode 12 as a gift. My name is also printed beautifully on the cover :) I originally thought it was going to be 12 episodes, but they said it was going to be 16 episodes.
I hope the remaining filming goes well, and I also want to see you on TV soon."
.
B. Watching Episode 2 Live (2024)
"While Jun-soo and I were watching the 2nd episode, the food poisoning milk episode came up.
I had a feeling from the moment Eunha ran into the hospital- "Now the mothers will throw milk at Eun-ha and Ji-hwan will block it with his body XD"
"Of course Mom would know because Mom wrote it."
"No, no that's not something I wrote. It's an episode created by a drama writer."
"But how do you know?"
"Mom has a knack for romance lol"
But I wonder what happens when I close my eyes and count to ten. Will he handle the parents while counting to ten...
I'm curious so I'll watch next week too.
Let’s all watch together hehe"

Bucky F*cking Dent
Why EoM Founder/Head Writer Douglas Davidson Recommends It:
By rite of marriage, I must declare, “Let’s Go, Mets!” That is about as sports-y as I get, so my interest in Bucky F*cking Dent is purely out of curiosity to see what David Duchovny does in adapting his own novel. It doesn’t hurt that it features Logan Marshall-Green (Upgrade) and Stephanie Beatriz (Encanto/Brooklyn Nine-Nine), two actors who constantly surprise.
Official Synopsis:
Ask any Red Sox fan about Bucky Dent and the response is always the same: a sigh and shake of the head as we dejectedly mutter, “Bucky fucking Dent.” For those of us who live and die with the Olde Towne Teame, Bucky Dent is a very specific avatar of heartbreak: the quiet, unassuming kind of heartbreak that you silently dismiss until it’s right in front of you, knocking a 1-1 pitch over the Green Monster in left.

Heyyo! I'll say this for like,,,the 99th time in a row I AM SO SOOOO SORRY for abandoning my account, school has been taking up most of my time at the moment.
Anyways
Here is my Trisona, Vale! (If you're in the visual novel server, you might've seen them already. :3) I don't have much written about them at the moment, I'm not the greatest writer, but to put their lore short, Vale, formerly known as U618, is a runaway EOM unit. Why did they run? Who knows, I don't. Up for interpretation I suppose. These are the type of units you could find Wolfwood hunting down like that one guy at the start of tristamp e6, you know?

20 questions for fic writers!
Thank you @firebatvillain for the tag! Sorry for getting back to it only now 😬
Won't be tagging, but if anyone wants to answer feel free!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
43!
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
61,038. It's not much, but I have a novel-sized fic in the works so I expect it to balloon in size, hopefully soon haha
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Trials of Mana/Seiken Densetsu 3, mainly Hawkeye x Riesz
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Final Vows - A short retelling of the final battle of the game where Hawkeye and Riesz confess to each other in the midst of battle. I decided to raise the stakes and make the scene more dramatic, because it's something I felt was lacking in the original game.
Matched - A jealous Hawkeye watching Duran and Riesz spar. Jealous Hawkeye good! Jealous Hawkeye delicious! Also with some angst, hurt, comfort and fluff at the end. I personally had a hard time with this, particularly the fighting scene but it seems like people enjoyed it so it's all good!
Magic Kiss - One of my personal favorites. It's about how Hawkeye talks about his first kiss with Riesz. It's not a very fluffy first kiss, but a very dramatic and romantic one, nonetheless. I'm very proud of this one!
Scars - A rather short, somewhat steamy fic about Hawkeye and Riesz showing their scars to each other. It's short but sweet, also one of the first ecchi leaning fic I've written.
My Teacher, Our Secret - This is my most popular work, it seems. It's a High school AU Hawkeye x Riesz where Riesz is his homeroom teacher and Hawkeye is her student. It's PWP. It's Teacher x Student. Also has an 'almost caught' moment. What else is there to say? Haha
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Almost always! If I haven't then... Maybe I was busy and missed the notification. But I make sure to always respond when I do see it! The fandom's very small, so I'd like to be able to interact with everyone as much as I can!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Torn between Next Spring, which is a moody fic abour Hawkeye not being able to express his love for the now Queen of Laurent Riesz, and heartbeat, which is about a soon to marry Hawkeye and Riesz, but Hawkeye having terminal illness. The latter feels more like an angsty premise rather than ending, which is why I'm considering the two at all haha
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Magic Kiss! Please read it! Happiest, heartwarming ending ☺️ Promise! (Hawkeye x Riesz, of course)
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Nope, fandom too small for that shit.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes. Yes.
Tumblr media
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
No, I don't, but since Echoes of Mana is a thing, why not? But no I still have not haha
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope, my fandom too small for that shit 😂
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No as well, but I am sure my Japanese readers are hitting the translate button on the browser when they read hahaha
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but I would love to! (I can also do Duran x Angela, Kevin x Charlotte... Or general ToM or EoM...)
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Hawkeye x Riesz!!!!!
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
None because I WILL finish all the WIPs!!!! WAHAHAHHAHA!!! MANIFESTING!!!!
16. What are your writing strengths?
The two comments I get often is that I'm good with mood and plot. So I guess those two.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Repetitive phrasing. Bad rhythm. Small vocabulary. No time for editing. Misspelling. I have a small list of gripes with myself so the list could go on haha
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Not ideal, but why not?
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Trials of Mana, Hawkeye x Riesz!
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
I like Magic Kiss a lot, but I feel like it's tied with Falling for You! The latter is about a regretful Hawkeye who wasn't able to tell his feelings to Riesz after the party disbands, but perhaps fate has something in store for him. Please read it! I am quite proud of those two.
Thank you so much again for reading thus far and thank you again for the tag!

Eyes of Magus: First 8 chapters on Royal Road
The first 8 chapters of my web novel are up on RR right now! This blog has been pretty quiet, so to alleviate that I've decided I'm going to post updates under the #wip tag from now on. This will include little snippets from whatever I'm writing (mainly EOM stuff but I'll also post about any other projects I decide to work on if I decide to take a little break from it). Chapter 9 will be posted by the end of next week (hopefully). Be sure to check out the RR link at the end of the preview! 𑁍✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧⦿ PREVIEW ⦿✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧𑁍 There was a thunderous crash heard that night. It cut through the music of night parties and broke into the sound-proof barriers of every home in Lidantium. Every lens in the room had shattered, and the weapon of glass that had been painstakingly worked on lay in ruin.
“What was that?” a girl cowered, covering her ears.
A man rushed over to the window. His eyes widened at what he saw. The dark indigo of the sky was missing the golden glow that always hung over Lidantium. All that was left was the fading glint of what could be mistaken for dying stars; the shields were gone. Not long after, there were screams that could be heard from a distance. They were quickly drowned out by something heavy and unseen. The burning lights of the streets were snuffed out as quickly as the screams. Whatever it was, it spread fast, crawling up every single tower, every district. Immediately, the man threw himself back and shifted the stone walls to seal up the windows and front door. A terrible, familiar feeling left him shuddering. No. Not again. Not now… 𑁍✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧⦿✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧𑁍

HER PRIVATE LIFE //  KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı: 7,7 Benim puanım: 8
Drama: Her Private Life (English & literal title)
Hangul: 그녀의 사생활
Director: Hong Jong-Chan
Writer: Kim Sung-Yeon (novel)
Date:  2019
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea
Cast: Park Min-Young, Kim Jae-Wook, Ahn Bo-Hyun, One, Kim Bo-Ra, Park Jin-Joo, Kim Mi-Kyung

I think, one of the reasons I was struggling with continuing my novel wip (apart from being exhausted cause of uni) was definitely my own anxiety holding me back from embracing my smut slut. This is to say: i have embraced the smut and i DON'T CARE THAT THE CHAPTER WILL BE LONGER THAN THE OTHERS SO FAR. HAVE ALL THE SMUT IN THIS NOVEL.

They’d been stupid. Absolutely stupid.
It had been a trap; of course it had been a trap. Looking back it should have been obvious, but how could they have expected those two monsters were working together?!
Tumblr media
Wolfwood growled low in his throat at the sight of his old Master standing (so to speak) next to Gozaburo Kaiba, both of them looking smug enough to punch, as the three mutated Eye members moved to block the exit behind them. He was silently grateful that Mokuba was back at the mansion, but cursing the fact that Seto had come here as well. Not a shock, seeing as the call had been directed towards the young CEO in the first place, but he should have knocked the man out and gone alone, dammit! He could yell at him later, but at least he’d be out of danger!
The priest was tense, glancing between Seto and Gozaburo as the two spoke (or rather snarled) with each other, not surprised when the fat bastard demanded the company, but starting slightly when he was included in the demands. Seto was stubborn, of course (and he had to admit he felt a bit impressed with how firmly he’d shut the “negotiations” down), and Chapel wheeled forwards, shaking his head.
Tumblr media
“It’s a shame you refused our previous ‘offers’, young Kaiba, violence could have been avoided. You had potential, even I can see as much. Such a waste... but I think it’s time to take back what you’ve stolen from your father… and myself.” Icy grey eyes fixed on the priest next to Seto, greed and possessiveness evident in the old man’s face. Nick bristled at being referred to as mere property, a mindset both Vash and the brothers (Mokuba, especially) had been able to break him out of, and he had no intention of going back.
Just when he was about to say as such to his old Master (along with a generous dose of “go fuck yourself!”), he froze then a third figure made itself known, leaping from the shadows to land between the two older men and their targets, towering over all of them with teeth bared in a manic grin:
Tumblr media
Razlo Tri-P of Death was here.
“We’re going to give you one more chance.” Chapel spoke, knowing he and Gozaburo were in control of the situation. “Resign the company back to your father, and hand Nicholas over, and you’ll be allowed to leave. Quickly, if you would, I’d like to get him back under the knife as soon as possible.”
Nick froze at that, shivering in disgust at the thought of this man operating on him again, especially while allied with Gozaburo Kaiba. He was shaken from his thoughts, looking up in surprise when Seto moved to place himself in front of him. A blatant refusal. Chapel’s eyes narrowed.
“Very well. Tri-P of Death. Your orders are to secure Nicholas by any means necessary.” Chapel commanded. “Kill the thief if you have to. Maybe his younger brother will be easier to deal with when we bring the brat his brother’s head.”
He could see Seto tense, the man pushing him back to stay behind him (stubborn idiot), but the priest put a firm hand on his shoulder to get his attention, shaking his head.
Tumblr media
“He ain’t someone’ you can handle. Get behind me, an’ whatever you do, stay outta his line of sight.” He whispered to Seto, deadly serious. “Don’t do anything stupid. He’s on another level, even for me.”
Razlo’s grin widened as Nicholas stepped forwards, this time in front of Seto, eyes dark with anger and bloodlust. The two assassins squared off.
Tumblr media
Wolfwood and Razlo clashed violently, Nicholas ensuring he stayed between the beast and Seto, not allowing him to get an opening. Blood sprayed, bones cracked, teeth bared, the two were moving so fast it was difficult to keep up. One thing was easy to see however; Razlo had the upper hand. Not only was he stronger, faster, and much bigger, but Wolfwood was fighting with a handicap; unable to move freely in order to keep shielding the man behind him, and had taken a few bullets to the shoulder and legs in the process. But despite this, the smaller of the two killers was putting up one hell of a fight, moving with a grace and viciousness he hadn’t had to resort to in a long time. It was quickly becoming clear why the old man had become so obsessed with his potential.
It was okay. Razlo’s orders weren’t to kill him, he could think of a way out of this! So long as Seto stayed behind him…
He wasn’t sure what happened, whether Seto had tried to get out of the way, whether he’d tried to make a diversion, to even Nick’s odds, or simply moved without thinking. Either way, by the time he noticed the brunet was out in the open, a grinning Razlo had already raised his gun and fired. Despite lunging forward, he knew he wouldn’t reach him in time- even if he hadn’t been as injured as he was, he wasn’t fast enough.
Tumblr media
“GET DOWN!!!”
It was too late. He watched in horror as the bullets tore through the young CEO’s torso, sending him collapsing to the ground. Nick finally reached him, sliding to his knees to catch him, to keep his head from hitting the ground. A gut shot. Slow, and painful.
“You- You IDIOT!!” Nick could hear Razlo laughing from the ground behind him, but paid him no mind, instead yanking his own blood-soaked jacket off to put pressure on the worst of the wounds in a desperate, futile hope to stop the bleeding. “The fuck were you thinking?! If you’d jus’ stayed put…! I told you, I can take more bullets than you can! Let ME get shot, dammit!” He was panicking as the brunet’s blood quickly soaked the jacket, blue eyes staring up at him as their owner’s face quickly lost color.
“No, no no no nonono, c’mon, you’re too fuckin’ stubborn to go out like this! You gotta get back to Mokuba! You know he needs you! Jus’- Jus’ keep your eyes open, I-I’ll think of something, dammit!!”
God, no. This couldn’t be happening…
Razlo, it seemed, had grown tired of being ignored and grabbed the priest by the injured shoulder, yanking him back and into two of the mutated freaks he kept around from the Eye, who instantly seized him by the arms, and despite struggling to pull free- to get back to the injured man on the ground, their grip didn’t budge.
“DAMMIT, MOKUBA NEEDS YOU!!” Nick cried as he was pulled back, desperation in his voice. “GET UP!”
“Bring him here.” Master C’s voice cut through his panicked haze, the smug victorious smirk almost audible in his tone, and Wolfwood doubled his efforts to get free as he was dragged back away from the brunet’s body, towards the two responsible for this hell.
Tumblr media
“YOU’RE GONNA LET THIS BEAT YOU?! WEAKLING! COWARD!! GET UP!! PLEASE!!!”
He was still shouting as he struggled, as if desperately hoping Seto would somehow get back up from his insults just to prove him wrong like the stubborn asshole that he was. It was all in vain.
Still yelling and fighting as he was dragged dragged to his master and Gozaburo, he was helpless to watch as the life slowly left those blue eyes.

Mothers in Her Private Life (2019)
or Motherhood Pvt Ltd. A Publicly Traded Corporation
Spoilers!
Her Private Life is a 2019 Korean drama based on Kim Sung-yeon’s novel Noona Fan Dot Com, starring Kim Jae-wook and Park Min-Young in the lead roles. The show follows Sung Duk-mi (Park Min-young), the talented and dedicated Curator at Cheum Museum of Art, who has a secret that no-one at her work place must know about—she is a k-pop fangirl and fansite master The Road to Si-an. Trouble starts to brew when Duk-mi’s paths cross with Cheum Museum’s new Director, Ryan Gold (Kim Jae-wook), both as The Road to Si-an as well as in her role as the headstrong curator of the Museum. A rumour that Duk-mi is dating idol Cha Si-an (ONE) further threatens to dissolve the boundaries between Duk-mi’s work and private life.

Her Private Life was my first k-drama, and it took me a while to get to this even though a friend has been asking me to watch them for at least a year now. I decided to watch this show because the premise seemed familiar enough from anime and manga like Ore no Imouto Ga Konnani Kawaii Wake Ga Nai and Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai (The World God Only Knows). The show’s initial episodes follow the typical pattern of shows on fan culture: the censure and ridicule fan communities face, the struggle as well as joy of keeping up with one’s favourite music, games, TV shows, what-you-have-it alongside one’s daily life. Her Private Life is an easy-going romantic-comedy with bright production pallets, stunning outfits and make-up for its entire cast, and a wonderful OST list; it reeled in (G)I-DLE for the title track “Help Me” and also features songs by Ha Sung-woon, IN2IT, and Davichi. I did not think the show would go beyond the cute-sy and slightly contrived incidents that bring Duk-mi and Ryan’s together. I am happy to say I was wrong.
While the first half of the show focuses on the will-they-won’t-they angle, the second half picks on a very interesting strand: motherhood. There are a lot of mothers, biological and adopted, in Her Private Life. We see some of them while others are only present in the background, but this fabric of various mothers ties together the different characters in this show. We have Go Young-sook (Duk-mi’s mother), Lee Seon-ju, Editor Nam Se-yeon, Director Eom So-hye, Artist Lee Sol, and Ryan’s adopted mother—who never makes an appearance on the show but is an important part of it nonetheless. All these women have a different relationship with motherhood; they struggle through it in different ways as their male counterparts do not actively participate in child-rearing[1] or the domestic sphere--what is “private” must be managed by the woman. Inept men fail women and also trample the future of children in the process. In Her Private Life, the so-called domestic sphere mixes up with business when women rear children as a community and also become breadwinners.  They are left alone to balance responsibilities both the domestic and public spheres, and can only rely on each other to look after their children. By exploring motherhood through the different mothers peppering its story, the show quietly states the feminist maxim “the private is the public” to throw out gendered division of labour.
Young-sook and Seon-ju are “traditional” mothers, and it may seem that there is nothing new about them. While the two women never meet on screen and discuss their lives, they have much in common; they spend much of their time with their children and derive pleasure from motherhood. Despite being married to men who are at least physically present, Young-sook and Seon-ju have to take much of the burden of parenting on their shoulders.

Young-sook is an efficient and loving mother of two, Duk-mi and Duk-su. She also takes Nam Eun-gi and Heo Yun-jae/Ryan Gold, a supposedly abandoned child, under her wing. In the course of the show, she acts as a mother to Kim Hyo-jin, the Museum intern struggling with an insensitive with her own mother, Director Eom So-Hye. Young-sook receives little support from her husband except finances. Being a mother to five children at different points in time, Young-sook is a super-parent. Young-sook’s role as a nourishing caregiver to all these children ensures that they becomes well-adjusted individuals in the course of the show. Her affectionate rearing in the domestic sphere becomes the backbone on which single mothers like Nam Se-yeon can earn their livelihood in the public sphere. She is the glue who binds families together.

Seon-ju, like Young-sook, shares a thorny marriage with her husband and practically raises Geon-u on her own. A “modern” mother, insofar she owns and manages a café, Seon-ju is self-sufficient when it comes to money. Her husband, Kim Seung-min is rarely available for the emotional support that Seon-ju wants in her marriage, and he remains busy with his work life. In the beginning of the series, it is only for the sake of her child that she stays in her marriage. Seung-min further alienates Seon-ju when he helps produce a documentary film called “Obsessive Fangirl of the 21st Century”, hurting Seon-ju who is a fangirl herself. Seung-min insists that his work is separate from his family life and thus Seon-ju should not be disheartened by the documentary; work life is separate from private life, a distinction that we can only draw in the case of gendered division of labour. Seung-min even tries to justify his contribution to the documentary by saying that he did it so that he could transfer to a variety show and be able to spend more time with his family. Seon-ju refuses Seung-min’s excuses, Seung-min apologises to Seon-ju for thinking that he could work on a documentary that portrayed fangirls in a negative light while also respecting Seon-ju’s life as a fangirl; their reconciliation only happens when Seung-min lets go of the constructed binary between a public sphere where one works and the private sphere of domestic life.
Editor Nam Se-yeon and Lee Sol are the two career-driven women in the show who raise their children, manage their domestic sphere by “giving them up”. Se-yeon is still single during the events of Her Private Life because few men her age seem to be compatible with “ambitious” women—a gaslight-y way of saying they are intimidated by her success. When Eun-gi was born, Se-yeon was desperate enough to consider leaving him since she could not rely on Eun-gi’s father to support her. Only a woman, Young-sook, steps forward to help Se-yeon in her time of need and allows her to move forward in her career. Women must hold the fort in both the public and the private sphere.

Meanwhile, Lee Sol raises Yun-jae/Ryan on her own even as she toils to make it debut as an artist. Lee Sol loses her son when she is knocked into a coma after a car accident. Although Lee Sol is not able to find her son until she meets him as Director Ryan Gold of Cheum Museum of Art, Lee Sol’s lost son finds love and warmth first in the family of Young-sook and then in the Gold family. The accident damages Lee Sol’s hand enough that she can no longer be an artist and pursue her career. Again, it is Young-sook who initially takes care of Yun-jae. Even though she must later give him up for adoption, Young-sook steps in as a mother to prevent Yun-jae from being traumatically orphaned on the day Lee Sol met with her accident. Young-sook is a kind of a “middle mother” who willingly nurtures Eun-gi and Yun-jae in a way that they can cultivate strong and healthy bonds with their parents and themselves.
Motherhood, however, is not the sole test of these women’s characters or moral sense. In portraying the efforts these women put into all aspects of their life, Her Private Life does not offer any judgement on who is the better mother “and, thus the better woman”. Even though Young-sook is the super-mom, she is also the only mother in the show who loses a child. Her youngest, Duk-su, passes away in a car accident. There was nothing Young-sook did to “deserve” it and nothing she could have done to prevent it. She is not rewarded for being a super-mom, and the other mothers on the show are not censured for choosing to run businesses or pursue a career.
Perhaps the only mother Her Private Life condemns is Eom So-hye, who is not a bad mother but an insensitive person in general. So-hye cares little for her employees at Cheum and often makes life difficult for her daughter, Hyo-jin, even if it comes from a place of trying to prevent Hyo-jin from engaging in sasaeng-like (stalker) obsessive behaviour. Young-sook’s advice to So-Hye is not just advice for becoming a better parent but becoming a better person by listening to the needs of other people. Though So-Hye remains the drama queen character of Her Private Life, by the end of the show she is no longer the obnoxious person who wishes to boss everyone around.
Without introducing an element of “karma” or what-comes-around-goes-around for the different motherhoods—traditional or modern, involved or a little aloof—Her Private Life gives breathing room to motherhood. Since men cannot support them emotional or financially or both, women step outside their houses to take on the roles of breadwinners while balancing the role of caregivers. Women divide roles according to their strength and not their genders, and advance in their careers and raise well-adjusted children without the need for a patriarch to guide them.
