I think there is/could be a dynamic in the suave flirty vs no nonsense person who hates what you do/stand for, with a backstory of being close and then enemies and getting close once more- but that dynamic could probably be WAAAAY better expressed than that. I think it might be people like the elements (like how much fandoms seem to love enemies to lovers trope) and are trying to slot characters that just… don’t work into that dynamic.
For example- I think whatever the hell Alhaitham and Kaveh have going on is much more interesting. And they have similar elements that do work- the bickering and arguments, the connection via academia fhen whatever happened between them becoming roommates, rhen the comments of were not friends exactly that makes me peek up- it’s interesting. Their dynamic is interesting. And much better executed than two people who get seemingly shoved together into relevance/situations by fandom and in game events where theh dont appear to actually like each ofher. And not even romantically just- constantly making it so it’s hard to bring up one without the other. Jean and Diluc can take elements of the dynamic- specifically the “hates the knights of favonis” and “is knight of favonius” while removing the flirty element of course. But there seems to be actual mutual respect there?- and the whole I respect you and think you’re one of the only good ones in an organization I don’t think highly of can be sweet to work with actually. Reaching out to help despite differences. I personally don’t ship it but hou cojld very easily make something interesting and compelling out of it yknow?
The amount of hoops you have to jump through to just. Get to a relationship that at its core doesn’t work without some extremely heavy lifting via edits to events, willful blindness and misunderstanding events, or steaight up character assassination just baffles me. Like I know that some people appreciate a dysfunctional dumpster fire of a dynamic (see: certain childe fics/relatipnshops) but like. This really ain’t it dude.
I mean yeah, that too! Kaeya and Diluc both are heavily character assassinated very often by the fandom so putting them together is... Tough.
Like Kaeya is already misinterpreted as a slutty/promiscuous character that is fickle in relationships when actual Kaeya cannot even trust most people to be within 10 meters of him without putting up a mask, I feel like he wouldn't go out of his way to something so intimate so often tbh.
And yeah, while I do not ship Jean and Diluc, or Jean and Kaeya for that matter, I do see the appeal in their dynamic whereas, incest aside, it's very hard for me to even understand Kael*c's appeal because... There just isn't an underlying sense of trust between them, like they just constantly walk on eggshells with each other and all that stuff.
And like you said, Kavetham does offer a similar dynamic wherein, despite their bickering, there is an underlying sense of respect there that allows for an healthy relationship.
