The Beginning of Everything

Do you remember when things were simple?

Coming home on a Tuesday afternoon, a long day of learning 'nothing' at the schoolyard.

Watching what are now considered nostalgic programs to the passing generations.

Enjoying hour long conversations with your adolescent friends about nonsense over the landline.

Twirling the chord around your small sausage fingers while pacing the length of the kitchen wall.

Two parents, alive and smiling as they converse about the nightly news.

Not a sign of mental illness lying within your tiny body, yet.

Not afraid of the horrors that lay ahead.

If only you knew, little one.

I wish I could have saved you.

Perhaps we cannot catch a break

Because we are too busy focusing on what use to be,

Instead of what we have become.

Please recycle. . . . Das ist das Mindeste, was wir tun sollten, um den Plastikverbrauch sinnvoller zu gestalten. (auch wenn du den Müll im gelben Sack entsorgt hast, könnte er durch Wind und Wasser weggetragen worden sein, wie hier am Strand in Belgien - so argumentiere ich immer, wenn mich Leute fragen, warum ich den Müll von anderen einsammel). Mülltrennung ist auch ein wichtiger Aspekt. Entfernt vor der Entsorgung im gelben Sack bei Flaschen und Tetrapacks immer den Deckel und trennt verschiedene Materialien voneinander. Schwarzer Kunststoff lässt sich schlechter recyclen, da er von den Maschinen auf dem Band oft nicht erkannt wird. Mehrweg und Sodastream sind für mich gerade eine gute Lösung.
