[ knowing ] sender has been holding receiver's hand all this time without realizing it and hurries to let go (david and martina)
for: @ohwritewho: martina roscoe-dardashti & david vargas verse: remember the name notes: 🙂 triggers: threats from a guard with a weapon. some fighting with said guard.
His hand in hers should serve as comfort. However, it mostly distracts her from saving both of them and causes her to look from their hands, right back to him. Then, the action is repeated because she is incredibly confused by what’s on David’s mind.
Since she’s known him, David has made it known that he does not like her or care about her at all. He also tries to make it known that she shouldn’t exist, either.
And no – it’s not because he hates the fact that she exists, or because he hates people with abilities. It more-or-less has to do with the fact that he swears that she’s “dangerous” to those around her, even now, when she has control of her powers and strength and no one can or will control her, again.
She does jump up and look away from their hands, to look at the guard who’s still pointing a gun at them and has yet to shoot. Which, you know, in Marta’s eyes is a pussy move, since she needs the headrush and adrenaline rush of healing to get out of this mess faster. But okay, he’s just threatening – all bark, no bite.
“Can you repeat your question, Sir?” she asks, slowly, looking at him with no fear in her eyes, even though David looks as though he is shaking in his boots.
“How did you get past the entrance without attention?” he asks, the gun now pressed up against her chest.
For a moment, David holds her hand tighter, then realizes what he’s done. The young man then lets go, kicks the guard in the groin and takes his gun. He then looks at Marta and sighs. “Why did you let that go on for so long?” He asks.
Marta watches as the guard gets up, holding himself despite his pain. But she hits him hard enough in the head with her own head that he passes out. “Why were you holding my hand
.weirdo? That’s a
romantic gesture
” she mumbles, somewhat dizzy from headbutting the guard.
David rolls his eyes, "Not all the time," is all he says. And once she has her balance, she notices that he’s still just standing there. And just when she’s about to speak, she notices he gets that she’s about to tell him to run, so he follows her to the next checkpoint and does not hold her hand, again.

Let’s talk about Knives Out
Spoilers below the cut
Tumblr media
đŸ”„đŸ€€sweater daddy. I wish that was all I had to say. Well, it is, but it also very much isn’t.
1st Watch
After knowing what happens in the end, I had never liked Ransom (Chris Evans’s Character) until I went through with my second and third rewatch. So on my first watch, it was exciting because all the twists and turns really catch you by surprise. It’s such a wonder who would pull such an elaborate plan and why. Ransom is obviously awful. That’s why the dogs hate him. It’s such a sign of character. But for some reason, he’s helping Marta, and I loved it. He appeared so genuine and like he was really trying to find the best way to help her. Benoit Blanc’s accent is also hilarious and so is the fact that none of them really care to know where Marta’s from.
Tumblr media
The dogs love Linda and Linda is honestly not that terrible of a person when it comes to everyone else. She actually loved her father as seen by the way they shared notes, but idk. Everyone’s flawed and she still expected money and inheritance
2nd Watch
I started to pick up on the symbolism and more details of the movie. Chris Evans looks even better in his sweaters. But if you look closely, they’ve got tears and holes. What does this mean? But the sweater is nice before Harlan dies. Does this mean Ransom looks nice on the surface, but if you look deeper, something’s wrong? Does this mean he started to crumble after Harlan’s death? They also bring up the fact that Marta is the only one who beat Harlan at ‘Go’ more than Ransom. Does this mean that if Marta weren’t around, Ransom would’ve gotten the inheritance? Or would he have been cut off like everyone else still? Or, does this mean that Marta was a better strategist. Even though Ransom did a lot of the work, she took the final step in lying in order to get him to confess to murder. Also, Meg on that phone call? Was she really apologetic or was she trying to get that money?? And why didn’t Harlan keep paying her tuition, it was her mom’s fault. But I guess she was technically a mooch like everyone else.
And obviously there’s the fact that everyone lies to Marta about wanting her at the funeral. Don’t lie to save face, you couldn’t have all gotten outvoted.
3rd watch
I’ve fallen in love with Chris Evans as Ransom even more, not just because of the sweaters, but because in this time, I read some really good fanfics that redeemed him. The movie is cast so perfectly and I love the subtleties. Plus, I’ve always had a little bit of a thing for guys who are awful for me if they’re hot (it’s a fatal flaw, I know, I’m working on it, but can you blame me?). Ransom is so smart, and it’s a shame he uses it for evil because he was so close. Anyway, let’s talk about alcoholic beverages. My investigation into this started because I wanted to know the mixed drink Ransom ordered at the bar (which which I still haven’t figured out yet, but I think it was a Manhattan?)
Tumblr media
Look at the alcohol in the movie, though. The whole family is always luxuriously drinking scotch or champagne. Ransom, on the other hand, orders craft beer at the bar with Marta, which separates him from his family, but hopefully makes him seem more relatable to her. Even tho craft beer is the rich man’s beer lowkey. Then, he uses a large bottle for set fire to the Medical Examiner’s office. This whole time, we don’t see Marta drink at all, which separates her from the family. Not to mention, Ransom builds a literal wall of beer bottles between the two of them at the restaurant, showing physical separation despite his offer of assistance. The bottles are also apparently in one of the positions of ‘Go’ called Atari. This is an attack position, meaning Ransom thinks he has the high ground. Incorrect. This is all just a posed by the separation we see at the end of the movie where Marta is looking down at them on the balcony while they all look up at her, once again separated but the tables have turned.
Overall, a great movie and a great look for Chris Evans. The costume designers and casting directors knew what they were doing. As much as I hate to say it, I WOULD NOT have been immune to Ransom’s charms.

alright, so!
I love that our translator included an appendix at the end of each book explaining almost all of his choices and original meanings of words his readers might be unfamiliar with (that includes explaining why he translated the snitch as znicz but also what a prefect is and how much an inch is)
he kept most of the names as they were originally, just added additional explanations for context - like with Slughorn and the Slug Club (bc that was translated, so he explained where the ƛlimak (slug) comes from) and Sprout (bc she teaches herbology) and well, most of the names that have important meanings in english.
under "Black Syriusz" he noted that black means, well, the color black, but also that Sirius is another name of the Dog Star (also, in polish Sirius is Syriusz. not only in HP, that is how the name of the star is spelled in polish)
now with both Sprout and Black he made a mistake in the first edition of the first book (they were corrected in later editions). Sirius Black is translated literally (Syriusz Czarny) and profesor Sprout is male - bc in the first book she is mentioned only once and from that one sentence you cant conclude the gender, and he had to pick one for the translation bc polish is a very gendered language. When talking about those kind of mistakes in the appendix he stayed in character and mentioned a maltranslator spell and the publisher finding a proper counter-spell and i do find it very cute đŸ„č
Peeves was translated as Irytek, someone who, well, irritates. Moaning Myrthle became Moaning Marta (bc myrthle is mirt and thats a male noun, so he just picked the closes female name). Most pets' and creatures' names were either translated or explained in the appendix (ex. Banshee was translated as Szyszymora, which is a similar demon from slavic folklore).
There is one name he did translate and that is Cornelius Fudge that became Korneliusz Knot. I really like it bc now he has the same letter for an initial like many other HP characters. Knot literally means wick, like candlewick, but also something tacky. When used as a verb (sknocić coƛ) it means to botch, to muck something up (apparently there is an idiom to make a pig's ear of something), so its really close to one of the meanings of fudge.
The most interesting thing (I assume) are the marauders. Bc in polish translation, the map is indeed named "Mapa HuncwotĂłw" (plural) not "Mapa Huncwota" (singular). Some people pointed out that we shouldn't refer to MWPP as the marauders bc it was "The Marauder's Map" not "The Marauders' Map". But at least in the polish translation its justified to refer to them as "Huncwoci" bc thats what the translator did.
Huncwot in polish is a mischievous person, and I feel like thats a much less negative meaning than the original word has. Tho the word is more like an equivalent, to some extend, more than an actual translation. His reasoning was that both words are from foreign languages (huncwot is from german, marauder is from french) and both arent that commonly used nowadays.
I already said what Prongs means (he included just the prongs/antlers part). Both Wormtail and Padfoot were translated quite literally - tho Ɓapa just means paw. I fairly recently learned that Padfoot was another name for Grim (form Yorkshire if I remember correctly)
Now. Moony. Im so jealous that its such a nice word in english. Bc in polish its Lunatyk and that means a sleepwalker. His reasoning was that it is connected to the moon (luna) and implies the night wandering. So I get it. But Moony is just so much nicer of a word.
I told Cat and Em that in the polish translation James's nickname is Rogacz. This is quite a literal translation of Prongs - literally this word would mean "someone who has horns/antlers". But the actual meaning of Rogacz - that im almost sure most children reading the books didnt know about -is "cuckold"
Do with that information what you will

My JESC 2019 Top 19 after the show
Tumblr media
Hello!!! And welcome to my after-show top 19 of this year’s Junior Eurovision Song contest that was held in Gliwice-Silesia, Poland, after Roksana Węgiel won with Anyone I want to Be, let’s see how were my impressions after the show (well, almost one month after the show).
1st Place: SPAIN/Melani GarcĂa-Marte (Placing-3rd-212 points)
One word to describe this... PERFECTION, her vocals, the staging, the backing singers, OMG THIS IS BEAUTIFUL, I’m so moved by this each time I listen to this, Melani, muchas gracias por este resultado para España, a deserved top 3.
2nd Place: FRANCE/Carla-Bim bam toi (Placing: 5th-169 points)
AWWWW YEEEEEES this slaps so much, and the performance was so playful as I expected, maybe the vocals were a bit shaky at some point but my love for this song is enormous, I think this deserved the top 3 but a 5th place is a good position.
3rd Place: NORTH MACEDONIA/Mila Moskov-Fire (Placing: 6th-150 points)
This song at studio was a blast, and live it was an explosion of talent, Mila slayed a lot, her faces were funny but still the performance was a gem, the LEDs were amazing, and THEY GOT OUT OF THE 12TH PLACE YAAAAY.
4th Place: IRELAND/Anna Kearney-Banshee (Placing: 12th-73 points)
NOOOOOOOOOOO THIS DESERVED THE TOP 10, the performance was epic, like the music video, she was like a fairy on stage and she had the vocals, I hope that Ireland won’t be underrated in the future.
5th Place: POLAND/Viki Gabor-Superhero (Placing: 1st-278 points)
Ok I still like this entry a lot, but the performance for me was a big letdown, Viki’s vocals were good and yes it’s a deserving winner, maybe something more colorful and less... metallic, would’ve been better, also, this is the first time a country wins twice in a row, which is impressive.
6th Place: ARMENIA/Karina Ignatyan-Colours of your dream (Placing: 9th-115 points)
I finally woke up to this song, her performance was stunning, the song is so so so good, and her vocals on point, catchy, energetic, I thought this could finish top 5 at the live show, still this is a pleasant song, I don’t know why I slept on this before.
7th Place: UKRAINE/Sophia Ivanko-The spirit of music (Placing: 15th-59 points)
Again a very underrated song, this is so pleasant, and the staging was beautiful, simple but full of light, and her vocals were on point, I wanted this to finish higher, one of my fave Ukrainian entries at JESC ever.
8th Place: THE NETHERLANDS/Matheu-Dans met jou (Placing: 4th-186 points)
Another good song with a good performance and yes, I see why the key change happened, it’s hard to be a teenager, I was so pumped by this at the live show and gave it a couple of votes, I smiled a lot to this and wow I still love this song.
9th Place: SERBIA/Darija Vračević-Podigni glas (Raise your voice) (Placing: 10th-109 points)
This is a very strong song and had an amazing performance, I love love love her dress, and I think it deserved a higher placing than it got, but again, this year was so strong and well, still a good placing for them.
10th Place: ITALY/Marta Viola-La voce della terra (Placing: 7th-129 points)
Another pleasant surprise, and as in 2018, I placed this very low in my pre-show top, she’s a very lovely child and the performance was such a surprise, I actually voted for this after the live show, Marta, I’m so happy for your 7th place, SEMPRE, SEMPRE.
11th Place: ALBANIA/Isea Çili-Mika ime fĂ«mijĂ«ri (Placing: 17th-36 points)
THIS WAS CRIMINALLY ROBBED, the song is so good, she gave a nice performance, the vocals were on point, and I liked the staging, I expected a high placing but again, I was wrong skdjkskdksk.
12th Place: KAZAKHSTAN/Yerzhan Maksim-ArmanyƄnan qalma (Placing: 2nd-227 points)
Honestly this was the surprise of the contest, good vocals, a good staging, a stunning performance, THAT LONG NOTE OMG I LOVE HIM SO MUCH, and I knew this was going to be my grower, I want this kid to have a succesful career and well done Kazakhstan!!!!!1
13th Place: PORTUGAL/Joana Almeida-Vem comigo (Come with me) (Placing: 16th-43 points)
Another song that deserved a better staging, just, why RTP, WHY THAT STAGING!!!! She left her soul on the stage despite the bad staging, gave one hell of performance, and I’m glad she didn’t finish last and on the bottom 3, also 0 points from the juries, if that’s harsh for an adult, imagine for a kid.
14th Place: WALES/Erin Mai-Calon yn curo (Heart beating) (Placing: 18th-35 points)
Poor Erin, she deserved a better staging to this song, something more uplifting and not just hearts beating in the background, still this song is so lovely and THEY DIDN’T FINISH LAST YAAAAAY.
15th Place: BELARUS/Liza Misnikova-Pepelny (Ashen) (Placing: 11th-92 points)
My only thought when I saw the staging: IS THIS ANIME???!!!! Seriously tho, this song has its nice parts and it’s catchy, but no, I still don’t connect with this song.
16th Place: GEORGIA/Giorgi Rostiashvili-We need love (Placing: 14th-69 points)
This is nice, he has nice vocals but still the song was a bit eh at some point, the staging was so crazy that it distracted me of the song when the flashing lights came, I wanted a simple staging.
17th Place: RUSSIA/Tatyana and Denberel-A time for us (Placing: 13th-72 points)
Yes this was lifted because of my final impressions of the previous entries, still nothing special about it, and what happened to Denberel in the rehearsals was so sad, but I’m glad it was nothing awful and both gave a nice showing.
18th Place: AUSTRALIA/Jordan Clarke-We will rise (Placing: 8th-121 points)
Hmmmmm... another song with a quite bland staging, his vocals were okay and that’s the only remarkable thing of the performance, I was right, the juries helped this.
19th Place: MALTA/Eliana Gómez Blanco-We are more (Placing: 19th-29 points/last)
Ok, I had a lot of expectations for this, but the performance, the vocals and the overall staging were so bland, I don’t have anything more to say so, bad luck Malta, the juries didn’t help you this time. I expected this top 5 because of the juries like in 2018 but well...
