AM I OK? isn't the best movie ever made. It's fine, at best. It never really made me laugh, or cry. It's not one to watch again and again. And for sure isn't gonna win an Oscar.

But it is a movie that will matter to a certain group of people - for real. It is that movie that (us) late bloomers need and deserve. Cause coming to age is not always just for or even about teenagers. And not everyone in high school knows. Some Many of us think we know, and then learn some more, and have to start all over again. Which is scary and lonely and complicated... until you watch a movie written by someone who actually seems to understand all that and gives it a voice, and with it (especially in the first half) some scenes that are worth it, even on their own. Cause yes, okay, the plot lacks a little, and I could have done without all the vagina talk (the not realistic part, at least not in my world), and the acting gets a bit dull here and there, but that representation, that's a gift.

This might not be the movie of the year, but it is cute and entertaining enough for a good watch, and it sure would have helped me had I seen it a few years ago - and that alone is enough to recommend it.

After briefly brushing hands with Robin, Nancy feels her heart flutter, then begins to question why she feels like that. She goes home and stays up all night writing a detailed investigative piece on herself, citing experiences from as far back as she can remember that support the idea that she might—or might not—be a lesbian. It’s thorough, it’s factual, but it never actually comes to a conclusion one way or the other. So, needing someone else to interpret her careful research, she shows Robin. She watches her read it, heart pounding with anxiety, not even certain what she wants the answer to be. To Robin’s credit, she does read all of it—several pages single-spaced—before she hands it back and says, “You’re insane.”
