so a thing this fandom does that remains FASCINATING to me, as a function of the fact a lot of this fandom is people's first fandom or only current fandom, is just... assume a lot of things it does is a scourge that this fandom has invented or doesn't exist outside of it? or like, is uniquely bad here? and i won't deny that sometimes mcyt fandom is a bit more intense by virtue of numbers, but like...
duo names: confusing fandom-injokes to describe duos and groups tend to be an anime fandom thing specifically for many historical reasons, but they're not uncommon. hey quick--if you haven't been in KHR fandom, can you guess what 1827 is? no? i'll give you a hint: that's actually a ship name. or, ygo fans, tell me the difference between puppyshipping, prideshipping, violetshipping, and rivalshipping. my hint is that they're all kaiba ships and two of them are actually the same ship. good luck!
reducing characters to a specific trait: have you read fic in another fandom before? i would recommend you go do so and come back to me. my example here is "sasuke likes tomatoes", for the record.
common au fanon that's confusing to outsiders: my deep cut here is "when i got into certain tv fandoms i was baffled by the existence of sentinel/guide fics", which is a slightly older tv fandom thing so many of you probably don't know what i'm on about. but trust me: in certain fandoms it's ubiquitous and unless you've watched a completely different tv show you're gonna have to entirely pick it up from reading fic. oh hey, hybrid aus and watcher!grian, nice to see your relative here,
fanon being treated as canon: did you know there's this whole bnha character, naomasa, who is treated as canonically having a lie detector quirk? did you know that, best i can tell, that's not in canon anywhere, it just got echoed through fanon enough that everyone treated it as canon? 'fanon trait becomes so ubiquitous everyone assumes it has to be there' is not a new thing. also, batfamily fans, i have been lead to understand the tim and coffee thing is also this.
characters being treated badly to make a different dynamic look better: the fact we have the term 'character bashing' tells you all you need to know, here. if anything my one complaint on this front isn't even that it's happening--it's that i wish bashing and/or "not [character] friendly" was tagged a little more frequently, haha.
characters being reduced to their family dynamics: tale as old as time. "even the family dynamic thing" yes even that. just because this fandom tended to be particularly ship-adverse in the past didn't mean it didn't do basically the same behaviors as any fandom with shipping did with those dynamics, just gen. and other gen fandoms also do that. yes, down to the "and shipping reduces them to a ship, unlike my gen dynamic, which is very in-character; why can't people just be friends?" thing. some of you have to have been marvel fans right.
characters being reduced to their ships: some of you have to have been marvel fans right.
The Discourse: yeah this is an "actively running show" fandom thing, but also a hiatus fandom thing. ask a homestuck about vriskourse sometime. as much as i hate to say it, it probably made doomsday discourse look cute.
and those are just like... some things i've seen people complain about on my dash recently. idk it just hit me there are probably fans in mcyt fandoms who are assuming that some things (like hybrid aus or duo names) are the kind of things that only happen here, so i thought i'd offer some examples of other places they happen! i also have even more examples if you'd like.
to be clear: this isn't shaming anyone for complaining about any of these things. lord knows i go complain to my friends about it all the time, just the other day i was complaining in the category of 'they keep bashing my guy'. it's more of just... a gentle reminder that maybe we're big, maybe we're loud, maybe we have problems... but these problems aren't always unique.
so uh. we're all suffering together i guess...?

Season 0 has Atem killing a bunch of people and everybody is fine with that. Season 4 has him sacrificing a bunch of monsters (and accidently misplaced Yugi) and everybody''s mad at him.
Apparently, trading cards are where they draw the line

Tumblr media
i THINK ive managed to finally run out of bakura colors. finally.
now with the addition of ????more miku blues???, this weird ass sandy color for ryou and ONE (1) new color for tkb. honestly props to him for being the most consistent out of the 3
like halfway through i found someone who had posted some of the official arts i'd already put on here but for some reason the colors were different on those editions and i have no idea whether they should be added or not. so.
all in all. 57 bakura colors. just like heinz sauce

The number of people I've seen who appear to genuinely believe it should be easy for the characters to tell Yusaku is Playmaker baffles me. Asking with your whole heart if Yusaku doesn't want anyone to figure out his identity, why didn't he design an avatar that's more distinct from himself. Completely missing that the similarities are for the audience's benefit, and for marketing. Yusaku is recognisable as Playmaker to us, but he's not meant to be for the characters in-universe. This is established early on and made clearer by Yusaku and Playmaker having subtly differently drawn eyes, the common anime version of avoiding same-face.
Tumblr media
<- Yusaku - Playmaker ->
In-universe, nothing says Yusaku is a suspect for being Playmaker. They even point out in episode 3 how an avatar looks doesn't mean anything, the person behind it could look like anyone. The closest is he has the same kind of old duel disk, and that's not exactly definitive proof. The person watching isn't meant to bring in real-world logic to the shows fictional logic. Yusaku is a loner with no social circle at school, no one would raise an eyebrow if he vanished and Playmaker suddenly made an appearance. You could probably count the number of people who know his name on one hand. He doesn't duel, but carries a terrible dummy deck with him to excuse the duel disk. He's awkward and standoffish to the point of being rude, but does not carry himself with the same air of confidence that Playmaker does.

Everything in this scene is perfect: the way Yuma's expression changes from annoyed to surprise while listening to Astral's explanation of why they have to go immediately home, and the way Astral's expression doesn't change until the end of the scene, where his face is like this :-(

hey! how long ago would you say you started your art journey? i’ve been meaning to get into art for a while now but every time i draw it isn’t perfect on the 1st try and so i don’t know what to do with myself afterwards. any advice? (: thank you!
😭 i never know what to reply to these big questions because there is no trick to becoming great as fast as possible.... you just gotta enjoy the process :) your art journey should be about enjoying the act of creation, not your ego or how "great" it is. it's nice to be able to put your visions on paper ofc, but i feel like people are so used to constantly seeing the good resultus online/in fandom spaces that they forget that there's a whole process behind it and that that process is as satiyfying (if not more) than the product
*puts pedagogy glasses on* my point is you should have fun, don't work product-oriented when you get easily discouraged, practicing comes easier to you when you're process-oriented :D
forgot to answer your first quesiton; i've always drawn, i just never had a moment when i decided to take it seriously , improvement comes naturally if you keep going

Kinda crack non serious Headcanon, but I like to imagine that when it comes to creating new cards to help his fragments, Zarc actually is the one that desgins and draws the cards...and he doesn't plan it in advanced, it's stuff he does in the heat of the moment, so he sends sketches...or what he thinks are sketches, it's basically this image.
Tumblr media
And sister companion to this Crack Headcanon, the reason Ray doesn't make cards to help her fragments isn't because she can't...but because her drawing abilities are shit.

new Yugioh oc for the Stars thing and hes third member of the crew and the third 'protag' after the other two.
Kenta Kuranai is his name, and he's not from a rich family as Jun, or as friendly and sociable as Yuji. He's had a rocky road in his career to be the best duelist ever, and in his quest to do so has taken a vow to 'never take shortcuts,' to someone in his past.
He assumed being accepting into Duel Academy would allow him to improve more but well, some bumps in the road and his misgivings with the attitudes of the campus might cause some trouble, but he won't let that bring him down. He made a vow and he won't let them ruin his future. This attitude has backfired on him somewhat, with him often skipping classes and being a general 'delinquent' has caused him to stay in Remedial. Not that he cares.
Serious, snarky, and focused, he's seen as the best duelist out of the Remedial group (Jun not dueling normally, nor having done so in front of him pre-main story helping this view). Starting out as a lone wolf, he slowly warms up to the rest of the group, but he won't admit that without some pushing.
He is very adamant in the fact that duel monsters shouldn't be a weird mystical or chaos inducing phenomenon. its just a card game, come on now.
His deck changes tactics depending on the duelist he's fighting, but often he tries to shutdown a reoccurring tactic/combo/card his opponent favors, then swarm them with his cards. His deck is a Beast/Warriors hybrid themed after creatures combined with mythological figures and heroes, "Chimera Mythos"
------
The main trio is done for the Stars gang, will try to add more including the rest of the remedial group and faculity and main rivals.
i really need to draw their duel disks one day.

Realised Ryoken and Emma are the only characters with visually distinct avatars that don't have their eyelashes changed. Is that anything. Is the show saying their lashes are flashy enough already? Princess-ass eyelashes man.
