it is really fascinating the diy split between the "fuck digital" 90s crowd ala albini versus the later napster/makeoutclub/myspace progression and how both were incredibly native about their own personal ethics of punk while also like. fostering their own underground communities outside traditional commercial industry
#like im a product of digital i always think the analog crowd is a little stupid not seeing the possibilities in digital sharing#but also. think of all the bands lost to myspace. in a genre defined by documenting and archiving theres a whole gen of musicians#like. lost to the ether of myspace. its crazy#not to mention the way digital has forever changed our relationality to music (like it or not we have not dealt with the fact the average#person thinks music should be free which creates lasting ripple effects into the streaming era)#and vinyl making a comback over cds. analog over digital physicality. if the issue is ownership why are we retreating to the more expensive#and unweildly and difficult to access medium.... were the oldheads right about analog is it more 'real'#i dont know! sorry im reading about book about recorded music and having a normal one#my posts
