also i know it’s very fun to make fun of religious guilt on this website but from an ethnoreligious standpoint jewish guilt is very real. it can be crushing and toxic and incredibly controlling. it’s more subtle than catholic guilt but will still have you believing that if you don’t conform to certain community standards that you’re a) a shame on your people b) never going to be good enough and sometimes c) an active and present danger

#rachel says a thing #sorry to be a downer today there’s just a lot of thinking I’m doing on this #yes a lot of American Jews are progressive and these are the same families that exert TONS of control on your weight and gender presentation #as well as viewing everything from the lens of - don’t stick your neck out. don’t disappoint us. or we as a people are in danger #you��re never just yourself you’re a representative of the community. and that can turn stuff like being overweight into feeling like a crime #not to mention all the classic academic/career model minority shit #this doesn’t NOT have to do with current events
