but anyway so a.e. housman (canonically irl paddy maynes favourite poet and one he quotes a few times in the series) was purportedly queer and wrote this heartbreaking poem among others after the death of his old friend who he quite likely was in love with andd. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 man.

GODDDD yeah like one thing that kills me in the show (that is probably partly a like. adaptational necessity) is that paddy is this devoted poet but we only ever see him interacting with OTHER people’s poetry, and largely as a sort of. way of interpreting the events of his life and emotions… never met a situation that he couldn’t summon up a quote for. idk he’s a character that is clearly out to sea in terms of the ability to manage his feelings (especially but crucially not EXCLUSIVELY post eoin) and then he’s also thrust into this extremely distressing environment in the throes of horrible grief… so it’s notable to MEEEE that one of the only inward methods for emotional interpretation that he feels comfortable with is entirely externalized... like he doesn’t have the tools to manage his own emotions !!! he CANT be the one to write about it !!! he has to find what other people have said !! and as the show goes on even THOSE methods are failing him… when i find myself become a devil he reminds me that i am a poet, but eoin isn’t there to remind him… they’re blasting poetry out of my head and replacing it with men screaming…

Love referring to characters who are never seen without each other as "bonded pairs" like yuuuup. if you put these two in separate cages they're gonna get real sad and anxious and possibly violent too, one of em is biting the bars as we speak. you gotta adopt both of them or none at all, it is encouraged that you take them both. they are most likely to thrive if they stick together. it is easier for them to get used to new environments and situations because they have each other. they do everything together because they love each other so so much. you COULD separate them but it's gonna do a lot of psychological damage and it's gonna lead to a lot of issues and there's a big possibility they'll never be the same again
