Once Upon A Time Rewatch: Season 3 Thoughts
This season was an excellent depiction of family cycles, intergenerational trauma and repair. That shit it home for real!
To start with, you have Emma, David and Mary Margaret struggling to connect because of how closed off Emma has become to protect herself. And of course all the pain she has around being abandoned in the first place. But David and Mary Margaret are so desperate for a relationship they sometimes come across pushy. Itās sooo cute how she starts to call them mom and dad by the end of the season š„ŗ
And whew Goldās daddy issues totally explain why he is The Way he is. I canāt imagine looking my child in the eye and saying ā[my baby was] helpless and all mine. Pulling away my name, my money, my time! Pulling away any hope of making better for myself. This pink, naked, squirming little larva that wanted to eat my dreams alive and never stop. What are you now, a couple hundred? Canāt I be free of you?ā š¬š©š Real fucking harsh Pan.
And of course we have Zelena, whose desire to procure the life she never had eventually leads to her downfall. And yes her jealousy makes sense given that she grew up dirt poor whilst Regina trained to be an all powerful queen, but Zelena definitley romantissd Coraās life. One could say she was looking at it with green coloured glasses š¤. Her smoke should have been for Cora in my opinion! Fuck Gold for taking away Zelenaās second chance! š”
Other miscellaneous thoughts on the season:
⢠I love how often Regina and Emma refer to Henry as āour sonā it fills my little gay heart with joy. I swear to god they would have been the perfect slow burn enemies to friends to lovers story if Disney wasnāt so homophobic. Speaking of, I refuse to acknowledge the romances with Hook and Robin despite the actorsā on screen chemistry and relevance to the plot LOLOLOL!
⢠itās bullshit that Mulan wasnāt with the merry men this season and they didnāt even address what happened. Hopefully Jamie Chung was offered a better role elsewhere and decided not to return (not holding my breath)
⢠we did get some additional Black people with lines on screen who live so thatās good. However I do think itās sus the way Marianāa character is treated.
⢠I appreciate the theme of redemption and that you can alter your own destiny. Fate lies in the choices we make everyday.
Iām nearly halfway through season four so my astrology post on the main characterās big six is coming soon! Any thoughts on what my interpretations will look like? š

Do you shipp bats and superman? Or bruce and selina or you don't ship bruce with anyone?
Tbh, I donāt have strong preferences on the matter of Bruceās ships. Its not a matter of disliking them usually, so much as just not being super hardcore one way or another lol.
I would say probably my go-to is Bruce/Selina, just because I love Selina and thereās that opposites attract element to them that can be hard to make work, but when it works, ugh, it just WORKS, yāknow?
I do ship Bruce and Clark for similar reasons, though this is actually more of a recent thing, honestly.....back before I first left DC fandom the first time around, probably around 2012-2013, I definitely would not have called myself a Superbat shipper at all, but that didnāt really have anything to do with not seeing their potential or not liking the characters together. It was more just a byproduct of like.....back then, I didnāt really like how Bruce and Clark tended to be written together?Ā
Like, a lot of that was probably due to the tendency there sometimes is with slash ships to not really write just two male characters from some show or comic and put them in a relationship together, but rather to just kinda take two characters and write them in such a way that they feel like this kinda generic cookie cutter relationship that has more to do with going down a checklist of characteristics/specific moments/themes/etc than it does with who those characters are and what theyāre like normally.
But for whatever reason, since I started getting back into DC fandom stuff last year, Iāve found a lot more Superbat fics that are a lot more to my liking, or that just FEEL more like Bruce and Clark in a relationship rather than coming across as two characters who have little in common with them and just happen to share the same names. I honestly have no idea whatās changed in the time since I was last in fandom til rejoining it, at least in regards to this specific ship and how its written, or just as equally likely, something changed about my perspective between then and now that made me read it differently or be more open to it than I was in the past. *Shrugs* Who knows. So again, its like Bruce/Selina, Iām not opposed to it at all, have enjoyed several, but I just donāt tend to ship Bruce the same way or to the degree I have ships Iām more invested in, for most of his kids.
My one big caveat with Bruce and Clark is that like, its GOT to be respectful of Lois, she still should have a presence in Clarkās life and not have been just...erased or overlooked or killed off or just sacrificed on the altar of Superbat to make room for them to get together, yāknow? Like I donāt have a particular preference here, like, they could have previously discovered they just prefer being platonic soulmates and just have a super strong friendship thatās not threatened or replaced or lessened by what Clark comes to have with Bruce later, they could have previously been married and are amicably divorced now for whatever reason and still successfully co-parent Jon now, who splits his time between living with his Dad and Bruce and step-siblings at Wayne Manor, and then the rest of his time with his mom and her new girlfriend or wife Diana, perhaps...whatever. Not picky on the particulars, I just need Lois to still be important to Clark rather than treated as though an obstacle in the way of Superbatās true love.
As far as other ships go......I never got on board with Bruce/Diana even though they do at times have great chemistry.....Iāve just never seen that really successfully resulting in an actual relationship....unless Clark is involved as kinda a...not buffer, exactly, so much as a third complemetary piece needed to complete the picture. Same thing with Clark and Diana too, though, their brief New 52 relationship not working for me for the same reasons. The full Trinity together in every sense of the word? I can dig it. Just two of them though....Clark and Bruce is the only pairing out of the three of them that actually fits on its own, IMO, because something about Clark and Diana has always just felt a little too....forced, or artificial to me for some reason, like.....people always try too hard to emphasize how good a pairing they make on paper, that it just never FEELS natural or organic in execution, and Iāve never really felt any interest in trying to execute a version of it myself to have any idea how my own attempt would fare. *Shrugs*Ā
And then Bruce and Diana on their own, like.....I think Diana respects the hell out of Bruce and will always have a soft spot for him, but her bullshit tolerance does come with a ceiling, and I think for Diana, Bruce is one of those people where she does better with him in small doses, lol. Too much exposure to Bruce, too constantly, and for too longterm.....I think she would end up being likeĀ āthis relationship is starting to feel too much like a Greek tragedy, and not even one of the good ones, I gotta go, byeā lololol okay so it wouldnāt really be like that. I just mean.....Bruce thrives off of structure and rigid discipline in a way that Diana would find stifling, I believe?Ā
Donāt get me wrong, Diana is incredibly disciplined herself and capable of holding herself firm and steady in anything with a kind of discipline few others could ever dream of, but its not her PREFERENCE, I donāt think. Sheād rather default to a freer approach to and through life, whereas Bruce can do that at times to accommodate loved ones needing or wanting that from him too, but at the end of the day, I think heās always going to rather scheduling in some time set aside for the both of them, as something to look forward to....rather than just letting it come when it comes and then when it does, obsessing over whether heās neglecting something else as a result.Ā
So again...Bruce and Clark I think work, but Bruce and Diana or Clark and Diana - require all three working in harmony to be what all three of them actually need and want from that triad.
And then Bruce and Talia Iāve talked about a couple times before in depth, and I have hugely complicated thoughts on them due to the sheer bullshit writers have subjected Talia to over the years. I try to ignore Morrisonās take on Damianās conception as much as possible, like, I never go with that angle or that particular taint on their relationship unless for whatever reason its absolutely relevant to the plot - and Iāve never come up with a plot where it is, nor do I think Iām likely to. And this is for a couple of reasons - the first is that while Iām always saying that any writer could make a case for any character doing anything, conceivably, Damianās conception as written by Morrison just...destroys so much of the amazingly complex and multi-faceted character Talia often was before he wrote that, and recasts every aspect of her and Bruceās previous love story as just...a painful, not funny joke. Its not remotely something I ever want to read into those two, even if Iāve never shipped them as endgame myself.Ā
But at the same time, because it did so unequivocally happen in canon, I can never really blame others for accepting it as the reality of their relationship by this point, for whatever reason.....I mean, thereās the simple fact that something like that is so hugely personal to read about and see yourself in as a survivor, for instance, for any survivors who read Morrisonās story and afterward had trouble separating that view of Talia from previous stories of her....like to me, no matter how much I think Morrison is bullshit for writing that story, especially since its hardly like he had any interest in writing or acknowledging Bruce as a survivor in its aftermath.....I fully believe Morrison was likeĀ āhow can I make Bruce a biological father who owes nothing to the mother and has no obligation to share the child with her or fight over custody or anything like that.āĀ
Which is a shitty reason to do that particular kind of story. And why I donāt blame anyone for disregarding it, as I try to whenever possible, but neither do I blame anyone for finding their relationship kinda ruined in the wake of it, just because sometimes its physically/emotionally just hard to see PAST that kind of thing, even when you know the reasons for it existing at all are threadbare in the first place.Ā
(Its like how I do write and focus on Bruceās abusive behavior with some of his kids in the past, not because I necessarily LIKE to, so much as it just being such a personal topic to me that from the second it was written into his character and dynamics, whether written WELL or PLAUSIBLY or not, it just became impossible for me to pretend it just never happened or I never read any of those stories, so I have to find some way to tackle it in my stories and takes. But because I do think that the reasons for writing Bruce act that way in the first place were always poorly thought through, and it is a disservice to a lot of the reasons others love the character, I donāt blame them for disliking it and disregarding it themselves, so long as they donāt shit on me or my reasons for not doing the same).
So yeah, I donāt tend to write that particular element into Bruce and Taliaās story ever, for all those above reasons and also one other specific one: it doesnāt just make Talia a rapist and Bruce a survivor, it makes Damian the child of rape. And heās just had so much shit to deal with in his life with everything else alone, I never am comfortable heaping that onto him as well, because sooner or later it WOULD eventually become something he had to deal with, and no easy thing to deal with, so Iām just like....what if he didnāt have that particular issue to deal with ever.
NOW, all that said....Bruce and Talia still even without that have never really been an endgame ship for me, but rather something thatās kinda always been doomed to be a tragic romance, like theyāre each otherās one that forever got away. And thatās because for me, unlike Bruce and Selina being opposite in just the right ways, Bruce and Talia are alike in the wrong ways. Its part of WHY they have the connection they do, and such a deep one....they GET each other, in ways I donāt think anyone else has ever truly understood them. They might not subscribe to the same beliefs, even have the same morals, they might not be willing to use the same methods, their ultimate goals arenāt necessarily the same....but their PASSION for their goals, their beliefs, their commitment to doing whatever each believes they have to do in order to see their goals fulfilled, to see that they never stray from what they believe is their duty, their reasons for existing....THAT is something I think theyāve both always understood about each other, that they have in common. Both believe too strongly in what THEY believe and value as most important, to be truly willing to give that up and follow the other to their goal or along their path instead.....and they get that, so they never truly ask that of each other, or at least arenāt surprised nor hold it against the other when they turn them down. I think they do love each other, and on some level always will.....and it might not even be that they donāt WANT to give everything else up to be with them.....its just, I donāt think either truly knows how to do that and still be them, like they know that even were they to make that choice, it would cost them too much of what makes them THEM, to ever truly do it.
And aside from that, even in an AU setting where Talia didnāt raise Damian in the League, where he wasnāt forced to grow up fighting the way he did, and say she spirited him away and into hiding at birth to hide him from Raās, but still never sought Bruce out til Damian was ten or so, even if only because Bruce is too easy for Raās to find or keep an eye on....basically, I just mean even in an AU where Talia was a great mom to Damian from Day One til the day Bruce met Damian, and she only kept him from Bruce for ten years or whatever for Damianās safety....I think that would still destroy any chance of Bruce and Talia ever being together after that, just because in that kind of scenario, Bruce might absolutely understand why she did what she did, even agree with it....and still not be able to get PAST it, not to the degree of....trusting her with his heart again, even if they were perfectly able to coexist well for Damianās sake. Bruce missed out on the first parts of all his other childrensā lives because they were someone elseās first. The fact that Damian is the one and only kid of his that theoretically, there was nothing keeping Bruce from being a part of that from day one....like this is the one and only way I will ever accept Bruce having a distinct view of Damian as being different from his other kids in his eyes....its not about him being Bruceās biological son, its about him being Bruceās son that he never had to be second to come into his life, that there was nothing stopping him from being there from the start....the fact that Talia, for any reason, did keep him from that, even were it with the best intentions, IMO....that would be something that might not even be Bruceās toĀ āforgiveā per se, like thatās not even the right word to describe certain scenarios that might result in that.....but it would still just irrevocably change something between them I donāt think they could ever get back.
So except for AUs where Talia brought Damian to Bruce right after he was born and stayed with him to raise Damian together, I donāt see them ever working out longterm.....and I donāt really see Talia ever giving up her own beliefs as to how to live her life, shape the world, wield her influence....just to live in Bristol with Bruce and raise Damian with him, even as there is nothing really in that case keeping Bruce from still at the same time continuing to be Batman and do all of that the way HE prioritizes. But again, by the same token.....I also donāt see the inverse ever happening, where Talia finds a way to go where she needs to and do what she believes needs doing, with Damian in tow....and Bruce willing to give up being Batman to just come along for the ride and to help raise Damian. So yeah, ultimately, for me those two are the ultimate tragic romance of Bruceās core ships, where love has nothing to do with whether or not they work out....just rather who and what they are getting in the way of what they are too each other.

So I finished reading The One Known By Many Names an hour ago. Jeez that was a lot. Your writing is top notch as always and I think honestly for the first time in ever, you have written sex scenes that I could actually read and not feel weird about. It wasn't forced, it felt plot relevant, and featured character growth within the actions.
Now after reading the final chapter I can't help but wonder wistfully what Cinder and Jaune would be like as parents. Ah it's one of those things you didn't realize you wanted until you've realized it, now you really want to see it. Ah. I can't help but picture Cinder freaking out about having children, believing that she would mess everything up in the worst ways possible with Jaune trying to soothe her worries with his own excitement, only to later hold her child(ren) and then vow to personally never allow any of her children to go through any of the horrible things she herself had to go through. Overprotective, but in a good way and with very good reasons. And loving, the way she should have been loved.
Hi!! <3 Thank you so much for reading!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. (o:
Yeah I think what I personally find valuable is when a sex scene serves things in the narrative. It's a win-win because it makes it more titillating lol. You're not necessarily sacrificing the physical and sensory intensity, you're only (ideally) making it more pronounced.
So to me, it's more a case of 'better' smut as opposed to 'serious' smut, if that makes sense.
And I think specific to the fic there's the element where a thing which happens in Chapter 2 as a sex/possessive thing (lol) has consequences (positive ones, in fact) in the next chapter, so you get some sort of literal... functional link of ideas between what's sexy and what's actually happening in the story.
I think so, anyway. Sorry to gasbag.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. (: I think I'm also hoping to demonstrate some - skill? sensitivity? - for Skimming Eye, because longfic smut can sometimes be a gamble. Too euphemistic, or boring, or unbefitting the story, or the sexual content/arousal comes out of nowhere... I have tried to build the idea up of it in the story organically (even with my silly silly metaphorical sex lololol).
On your lattermost point: yeah I think it's a very organic conclusion and makes a lot of sense, specific to these characters, not even just as a bog-standard 'happy ending'.
The most interesting thing to me is that relationship between an agent of death in the story and an agent of life. You don't often get villains who later become mothers themselves, either. There's also that symbolic renewal specific to the story with Salem and Ozma losing their daughters. And then as you quite rightly point out, Cinder getting to a point where she would treat a child the way she was never treated. Plus, you get all of the Mother, Maiden, Crone triple goddess stuff with the Maidens, so I think it's very much a thematically consistent idea - in terms of Cinder redeeming the power in her character arc especially.
But oh, do not even get me STARTED on the Usurper and the Holy Mother stuff I read into them and how I think Jaune factors in.
So I have thought about this a lot and I kind of can't comment upon it more, beyond receiving your enthusiasm with joy. But it's very much an idea which resonates with me personally and I think about it a lot.
Thank you again for reading and your lovely ask. <3 <3 Truly makes my day!
Honestly, I need lots of attention for working on Chapter 14, so this is great. XD Thank you <3

Pseudo-liveblogged reactions to Amazon's Cinderella
I'm not super savvy on modern music, so it took me into the second song to realize that this is a pop opera rather than an original musical.
There are pros and cons to pasting pre-existing songs into your narrative and we will unfortunately not be able to get into the pros today.
My newly acquired "5 min rule" would like to have the protagonist's internal conflict presented to the audience within the first five minutes of runtime. Couple that with Howard Ashman's "I Want" song and you'd kind of expect your protagonist to sing a lil something about what their story is up front. The only character so far to express anything of the sort is Idina Menzel's character.
If this wasn't a well-known fairy tale, I'd have to assume, after the first five minutes, that the evil stepmother is the main protagonist.
They didn't source a song that gives Cinderella a clear objective! They gave her one that describes her ... outlook on life. But we don't know the context for that outlook (I mean, we do, but this movie chose not to tell us, we already happened to know)
We meet her in her basement workshop, which she leaves immediately and starts doing kitchen things, so it's like, we Do Not Know her relationship to the workshop vice her relationship to the kitchen; no effort was made to show one as a joy and one as a burden. Maybe she loves both. Maybe she hates both, and that's why she's singing about having a good attitude (still no answer why love saving the day is relevant in the slightest)
Okay this new character showed up and she asked about his cane and I literally had not seen the cane on screen. It's a visual medium, you gotta show us the important stuff oh my god.
Ok, 8 min in, best I can tell, the conflict is that Cinderella needs to find financial stability because stepmom wants her gone and also her only viable options are getting married off. So stepmom's goal is to marry her off -- I'm wildly confused bc of the conflict I KNOW this story is about; why wouldn't she be invited to the ball if stepmom could get rid of her that way?? I have to guess that she wants the princey income going to one of her own daughters, in which case, her conflict is NOT that she wants to marry Cinderella off!!!!!
Geez, okay, I Do Not Know if these are original songs or not. Cinderella just sang about being famous, and the visuals implied that she wants to do sewing good.
OKAY????? The prince is just an obnoxious frat boy. Guessing that Cinderella either "I can fix him"s or else just absolutely just becomes a fashion designer and doesn't end up with the prince because Feminism.
Okay so Cinderella is super expected to go to the thing, no issues. The ISSUE IS OMG LOLOLOL THAT THE STEPMOM DOESN'T WANT CINDERELLA PARTICIPATING IN THE BLASPHEMY OF FEMALE BUSINESS OWNERSHIP?!?!?!?! (She needs to go to the thing, but she can't wear her self-designed dress for the hype ok sure)
Ok the Queen is my jam
He said "you can't control me" but I heard "you can't troll me"
Oh-hohoho so there's a suddenly Prince's Sister who is competent and will ultimately win the throne bc her brother's useless. So now I'm guessing that the prince is a super red herring who's just wasting screentime.
He's now singing Queen, which is slightly hilarious
(He wants to marry for love, I think. He doesn't want a political marriage. He still doesn't seem suitable for Cinderella, bit she did sing about love earlier so. Maybe they go into business together.)
It's trying to be campy but I'm not feeling it. The camp isn't baked-in.
Also this wasn't the ball. It's still to come. Prince is now leaning into the ball idea as a means of getting to meet specifically Cinderella. Bro she got other priorities.
Ok now prince is pulling a princess jasmine to walk amongst the commoners -- sorry hold on, they hecked up the eyelines SO BAD in this scene. Camera needs to stay on the same side of the two characters OMG textbook basics
So one of the stepsisters has now also expressed an interest in marrying for love. Oh PLEASE can she end up with the prince??? The narrator called her "cray," though, and the prince just had a poorly-blocked conversation about how he isn't into someone with too many bats in the belfry.
OOF the blocking is so bad. First time director?
Sidenote: there IS original music, and it's pretty good. They shoulda gone all out and avoided the misstep of weirdly forced musical numbers.
Ok, act 2 is about getting ready for the ball. How are they gonna pad this? Midpoint is she has her dreams dashed and has to do fairy godmother plan B? Or is that low point and the ball is in Act 3?
Montage of all kind of characters singing about where they are going into Act 2 but it's incomprehensible bc they're just using some pop song that doesn't say anything!!!!!!!!!
Oh. Hm. Mr. McCane is the conflict. That's tidy enough. Cinderella can't go to ball bc she's suddenly been match-maked. (And her fancy dress was ruined for good measure). So this is the midpoint lololol and getting ready for the ball was just the one montage rather than an entire act.
Lol so the fairy godmother is just a caterpillar/butterfly that she saved and there's ZERO reason why he's also magic.
We're on our third musical number in like 10 minutes, they're really pumping em in
I just shouted NO about the bad blocking. 180-degree rule!!!! It's non-negotiable!!!!!!!!!!
Have to say it, there is probably DEFINITELY an audience for this tho
So the second half of act 2 is the ball. Low point will be the midnight time limit on the magic?
Oh shoot I forgot about leaving the glass shoe behind and that whole search shenanigans. That's probably act 3 eh
Ohhhhh geez okay okay now she's met a queen and has to go meet her tomorrow so she can live her fashion designing dreams. But now she has to choose between prince and dreams? She takes prince with her on queen journey, leaving prince sister behind to rule? That'd be fine
Oh I forgot about Mr. McCane conflict. I don't know what she wants so I don't know what existing conflicts matter. She can't get locked in a closet and not be able to try on glass shoe, because she only has until 4PM tomorrow to go on queen journey; Mr. McCane thinks he's going to marry her; the magic ends at midnight but the prince already knows what she looks like and who she really is; the stepmom might find out that she's gone to the ball after all, but she's the prince's favorite so what can stepmom really do??????????
It's very messy
These over the shoulder shots are so awkward, the subject is always smack-dab in the middle of the frame, slightly obscured by the other party and the other half of the frame just totally empty I hate it a lot
Gonna guess this is 1.19:1 aspect ratio, which is ultra wide. Whyyy waste all that lateral real estate???
You can tell this was made for theaters rather than home viewing, though; after watching Zombies 2 a couple more times, I've noticed how the made-for-tv up-close framing isn't really the right way to use that ratio; the faces are way close and we don't get a lot of body shots. Not a problem here, though.
Ok it's midnight and she's fleeing, but other than the fairy godmother saying "RUN," there isn't really a good narrative reason for why she had to flee. Yeah she's unglamored and herself again, but SO WHAT.
Pierce Brosnan and Minnie Driver are killing it tho
Ok so her choice IS still between prince marriage and queen journey. McCane proposal red herring?????
There are NO STAKES to the stepmom doing anything villainous at this point? She wouldn't and she won't? And now she gets a tragic backstory? Idk idk idk bro
GOD the blocking is SO OFFENSIVE TO MY SENSIBILITIES
ohh hmm! Stepmom wants her to do the prince marriage, out of an honest desire for Cinderella to live the best life available to her (and to support the stepfamily)
So Cinderella has chosen queen journey and stepmom is like okay I'm selling you to Mr. McCane. But is Cinderella locked in the basement? She can't just ... go on queen journey?
WHAT ABOUT SHOEVENTURE PLOT?????
LOL STEPMOM ANGRY PIANO SOLO KILL IT IDINA
Please stop framing every face in the center of the shot. Please. I'm f*cking begging you
Ok shoeventure is about to start; it's a narrative piece belonging to the KING'S REDEMPTION ARC AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CINDERELLA'S STORY LOLOL
I MEAN THO. THE SHOE IS SOOOO UNIMPORTANT???? HE LITERALLY KNOWS HER FACE, IT DOES NOT FREAKING MATTER WHO SPECIFICALLY CURRENTLY POSSESSES THE OTHER SHOE
LOL ALSO I FORGOT-- LITERALLY FORGOT-- THAT HER NAME IS ELLA NOT CINDERELLA
So they're not going to tackle the whole thing where the queen journey queen doesn't care that Ella's has a different fave today from yesterday?
Ok and the queen is leaving on her journey an hour after she was to meet with Ella, so Ella's going to go with her but first she's going to the castle and be present at a whole royal event, and probably a musical number and then make it back to the docks in time? Sure ok.
Ye here's the number. Has 0% relevance to either the current events or any thing that's happened in this movie
Oh I have no comment on the dances, I haven't been compelled enough to really pay attention to any
Nice that she gets a lil moment of connection w/ stepmom. Don't know if it was earned, but it was sweet
Love will save the day reprise :| I mean ... I guess if he weren't out looking for her, she would have missed her appointment probably ... otherwise.........
Ok, it was fine/ not for me, peace out lololololol
EDIT: I quoted the aspect ratio as 1.19:1 but since I'm not good with numbers that's totally wrong. (I think that's the almost-square ratio that The Lighthouse used.) I just checked and both Cinderella and ZOMBIES 2 are 2.39:1, so at least I was correct in identifying that they were the same.
Also, looked up Kay Cannon and was unfortunately also correct in assuming she was a new director. Thinking on it now, it feels like maybe it wasn't storyboarding and/or shooting each scene was a process of "Let's just get coverage so we have options in post." There's just a real lack of not just intent behind shot composition and reason for cutting and the specific shot cut to, but mostly coherence; scenes are stitched together like Frankenstein's monster, I felt a visceral uncanny valley discomfort while watching.
I feel bad, no one felt they could point this out to her, either in pre-production or on set?? Unless she was surrounded by equally green staff, or yes-men who didn't really care about the end product that was going to have their names attached to it.

Kināiro no Corda: Another Sky ft. Jinnan - Ritsu Route
Name: Kisaragi Ritsu
CV: Konishi Katsuyuki
Ritsuās route starts off with Kanade trying to patch things up with him and itās been awkward ever since theyāve met up again. Iām glad to see this side to Ritsu since I didnāt really like his attitude in the prequel as he seemed too snobbish and boring. I had a feeling that he was just an awkward boi who didnāt know how to communicate since his world just revolved around his violin.
Ritsuās common routeās just him and Kanade having contests on which of them is more awkward - add that to the fact that, like in the first game, Ritsu is Kanadeās first love and she makes no effort to hide it.Ā
Gem Route
TAKANO-SAN STOPPP
Yo, Ritsu in his gem route is just a big fluff ball š. Heās so awkward and it felt like his personality gap was greater here than in the prequel. Ritsuās gem route is him basically trying to get closer with his club membersĀ ācause heās anti-social/strict - bitch I donāt know how that word I want is translated in English, help me out here lololol. He bears a lot of guilt since it was technically his fault that they got disqualified in the competition so the awkward relationship he has with his members becomes more awkward than it was before.Ā
Iām so glad that his members donāt even blame him in the slightest because well, that was actually the most human thing to do. Chiakiās dad can go suck a dick. Yeah, so his gem route is just Kanade and the other Seiso students plotting on how they could improve their relationship before he retires.
True Route
The actual true route of the seriesĀ ācause scratch Chiakiās š. We finally get a taste of what reality Ritsuās gonna face sporting his injury and if he still has a future in being a violinist in front of him. Iām glad to have seen even a slightest touch of reality in this godforsaken otogeĀ ācause what Ritsuās going through here is as real as it gets. Cliche as it may be, it didnāt appeal to be as dragged/forced as the other drama present in this series like fucking Nanamiās route. I felt genuinely sad for Ritsu - yo, boy even tried to take his own life in the picture above. That was quite daring on Koeiās part to low key introduce suicide considering the view the Japanese has over it. Bravo.
Ritsuās injury has healed enough to not hinder his playing but his mind is conditioned to play it safe so thatās the reason why it looks like his skills were deteriorating. After making peace with his inner turmoil, Ritsu slowly regains his former groove. As thanks, he lends Kanade his violin he previously wrecked but later fixed for her to use it in Jinnanās match with Amane which they obv win in the end.Ā
Once Ritsu was okay with his drama, the boy took the initiative! Unlike the prequel and his gem route where heās just oblivious to everything or teasing Kanade, Ritsuās actually taking the first step. He even created the mood where he was gonna confess -
āDo you know how much I-ā
But he gets cock-blocked by one of the Seiso members and heās like:
āDamn - at a time like this!!ā
BRUH ššš HE MAD. But he immediately gathers his shit and his kouhaiās like: ???.Ā
And thatās about it for Ritsuās routes.
Afterthoughts
Yo, I never really liked Ritsu in the prequel so Iām really surprised at how his routes turned out here. He seemed like an insensitive asshole the first time even though we all know that he wasnāt but there wasnāt enough time or space for him to show his real cutely awkward side in the first game. Iām really glad that his route didnāt turn out as cliched as I expected it to be. I really liked his character here -it feels like heās traded with Daichi in my ranking.
Chiaki has more relevance in Ritsuās route than poor olā Daichi š. I loved how uncliche their bed scene was. I DONāT KNOW. IT MAY SEEM CLICHE TO OTHER PEOPLE BUT IT WASNāT TO ME. Case closed. Now, I did say that Koei favors Chiaki the most but Ritsu has 15 CGs - 15 and he has some of my favorites. Chiaki has 14 boy. They even have the same amount of events (37) which is odd for a side character bitch Daichi has 40. I guess he still is one of the seriesā main characters so they stood true to that. But Ritsuās routes do live up to his main character status so thatās good. I still find it weird that we have the same fucking hairstyleĀ

oh my god lololol
thank you for tagging meee ā¤ļøā¤ļø here goes nothing š
character i associate myself with: Richard Papen from the Secret History by Donna Tartt. kind of an observer and the most pretentious twat youād ever meet, quiet and kind of just ordinary, i guess? heās really proud and self-dependent and just kind of there on the sidelines; he likes pleasing people and he goes for the aesthetic more than he does substance and heās very morally grey. in general just a mood and i would literally do everything he did in the same situation
favourite antihero: Harley Quinn from the DCEU because sheās so badass and cool and iām so proud of her in the Birds of Prey movie like šš my bitch really quit being a villain and became an antihero on her own terms, leaving behind her toxic ex boyfriend šš SHE REALLY DID THAT HSGSHSB i love her SO much (i realise sheās not from a book but cut me some slack)
character with the best love story: Eleanor and Park from Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. i stand by this story and will stand by it forever. the writing is SO beautiful and the setting is so convincing. the fucking PLOT too!! and the music references like omg this book makes me yearn for a high school romance in 1980s rural America with mixtapes to the Smiths and U2 and Joy Division. the actual love story itself is so amazingly handled as well and the emotion is incredible? the ENDING?!?! i donāt like romance books usually but THIS book-
character who taught me a lot: Death from the Book Thief by Markus Zusak. itās a strange character but its voice is so resonant and its messages about war and love and humanity and modernity are so relevant even today, since it deals with events in the 1940s. its language as a narrator really impacted me as a writer too and that whole book in general just fucked me up like i cried ok š in general Death is, above everything else, educating. the line āthey were French, and they were Jews, and they were youā when it was talking about French Jews in Auchwitz will haunt me forever.
interesting antagonist: Edmund from King Lear by William Shakespeare, iām going to sound so pretentious now but ANYWAY š that boy is the most cunning, twisted and fucked up individual EVER. like that bitch. screwed me up. heās self-made, cool, calculating, capable, Machiavellian; itās so entertaining to read him scheming. and his mind is SO fascinating and oddly beautiful? his soliloquy in Act 1 blew my mind. āwe make guilty of our disasters the sun, the moon, and the stars, as if we were villains by necessity, fools by heavenly compulsionā and ānow gods, stand up for bastardsā like DAMNNN BITCH WUT šš his relationships with Goneril and the other sister (i always forget her name) are really complex as well. does he care for them? are they just objects to him? itās different with each reenactment and omg i honestly donāt know if i love Edmund or hate him but heās very very interesting and the sole reason i tolerate King Lear as a play
character who disappointed me: Davy Prentiss Jr from the Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness. in the Knife of Never Letting Go i HATED him but in The Ask and The Answer? he hit me hard. ik he was an awful person like that bastard bullied Todd and ran a concentration camp for aliens and was very clearly sexist and violent. but he was like 15. in the Ask and the Answer we learn about his past a little, his emotions are explored, and his father very clearly is shown to have a huge impact on his personality as a whole. Davyās growing brotherly relationship with Todd was so heartwarming and he was really growing as a character, learning to drop his racist and sexist views, and overall so close to becoming a better person. he never did get there in the end, which was the most disappointing and heartbreaking thing
awesome but little-known character: A from Everyday by David Levithan. you probably donāt know who they are, though
(apologies i got carried away)

The Second Sun
Hereās the chapter 2. uwuĀ
Itās funny, because this chapter fits the theme for the second day of Yooran Week too lololol.
Chapter list:
Chapter 1 - The distrust.
Chapter 2 - The Reflection.
āHi, heheā¦ā
The blond boy entered the house and began to observe in all possible directions. The older twin approached and offered him a seat, which he immediately refused. When Saeyoung asked why, the answer took him off guard.
āI want to talk to your brother,ā he said with a smile.
Saeyoung wasnāt very convinced given what happened last time, but it made him happy to see someone interested in talking to Saeran, so he indicated him that he was in his room as usual and that he could come to see him without problem.
After going to the room, Yoosung could verify that, indeed, Saeran was as usual. Or so he believed, since the only time he had seen him was only a couple of days ago.
He started walking towards a nearby chair that was in front of a desk and sat on it. He knew that Saeran had noticed his presence despite not taking his eyes off the window, so he began to speak to him.
āThe other day we didnāt start well, so I came back for a rematch, what do you say?ā
The energy he projected this time was different. However, Saeran didnāt want to believe anything.
āGo away,ā he replied reluctantly.
āUm... Okay, I'll leave āhe said softlyā⦠But with one condition āYoosung waited for an answer and, even though he never got it, he decided to keep talking. He already knew that Saeran noticed his presence, so therefore he was listening equally, for better or worseā. You'll let me tell you something I canāt talk with anyone else.ā
There was another awkward silence, and although he felt the same way, he began to tell Saeran his little story of how he captured a rare monster on LOLOL with his team.
Saeran did his best to not listen, but in the end he ended up doing it anyway. Yoosung seemed so immersed in the history that even his voice reflected it, and this made him curious.
How could a game make someone so interested that he got so excited about it? He didnāt understand.
For his part, Yoosung had left behind any trace of nervousness. Talking about LOLOL kept him in his comfort zone, so he gave himself the pleasure of expressing himself as he always wanted, since Saeran didnāt utter a word.
After finishing talking about his little adventure, he said goodbye and left.
āFoolish boy, he just came to tell me about his stupid game...ā he thought.
Two days later Yoosung returned. Saeyoung opened the door with the same strangeness as the first time Yoosung suddenly came in, and after a few minutes of conversation with his friend, he understood that he had returned to see his brother. He told him that Saeran was in his room just like the last time and he went a little fearful āas usualā over there.
Yoosung came straight from his university, so when he entered he greeted Saeran with some fear and sat on the floor leaning against the wall, leaving his bag aside.
āGet outā¦ā
āBut I have something to tell you!ā
This time he began to talk about how unfair two teachers had been to him, both of them taking a surprise exam. He insisted that it was some sort of plot against him, since he had arrived late to the last classes because he had stayed at one or another LOLOL event.
Saeran listened attentively even though he didn't want to. It was as if the boy's voice was spinning in his mind.
After finishing talking about it, he said goodbye and went to his house.
Yoosung continued doing this for weeks and with each visit Saeran understood less.
The truth was that, as Saeran was his best friendās brother āwho was also part of the RFAā, he felt the need to help him out of that state. His cousin had become seriously ill because she didnāt receive that relevant help, and he didnāt want anyone else in his "family" to go through the same thing. Because yes, he considered the RFA his family, he always said it. So, even though some words or phrases that Saeran said to him could hurt or leave him confused, as long as he kept quiet looking at the window he could continue to talk. It would be different if Saeran were to become violent, in such a case he would not know how to act.
Fortunately, he had already passed that stage.
After several visits, Saeran stopped responding to what Yoosung was saying. He just stared out the window without a word. He seemed to ignore him completely, but the blond knew he was listening attentively. Something inside him said so, so he continued his visits to take the boy out of the darkness in which he found himself. He always told Saeran about anything that came to his mind and that he thought might be of interest for him.
One day, Yoosung realized that the same day that he would go to Saeyoung's house would also be held a major LOLOL event. He thought it through, and after analyzing his choices he decided he could go to his friend's house and maybe he would agree to play a game with him. It annoyed him a little to have to accept it, but he knew that with him on his team they would probably win. With this in mind, after college he went home to look for a few things. He made sure to bring his laptop and his favorite mouse, that way it would be easier to play.
Once at Saeyoung's house, he approached him and told him that there was an important LOLOL event in an hour. He explained that it would be a good idea to have him on his team, but he was not very interested, since he had a lot of work to do. Yoosung was discouraged, but he thought that perhaps it was better to play alone without depending on the great "Hacker God" to win.
With some fear as every time he did it, he approached the door of Saeran's room and, a little softly, knocked on the door three times and then entered ānot without first saying helloā. He was in the same position as before and all others times; Sitting on his bed, leaning against the wall near the window and staring at the sky. Sometimes, Yoosung believed that Saeran did that only when he visited. For Yoosung it was impossible to believe that Saeran would spend all his time there as a statue, but he was grateful that at least he let him be in the same room as he did without making a fuss.
āAh... You must be wondering why I brought all this, donāt you? āHe started to sayā The truth is that there is an important event on LOLOL today, but I also wanted to come, so I thought playing here would be a good idea... Seven didnāt want to play with me so... May I use your desk? I feel a little lonely thereā, he laughed at the end.
As always, he got no answer, so he simply proceeded to settle down on the empty desk in the room. This one was attached to the wall near the door, so sitting there made him turn his back on the bed āand therefore to Saeranā as well as the rest of the room. He plugged in his laptop, put on his headphones, and entered that incredible world he always talked about.
While Yoosung was starting the session, he talked about different things about the game with Saeran, things he didnāt understood at all. In his stay in Mint Eye he was never allowed to participate in such games, since they could distract him from his duties. He listened to Yoosung speak to him with the same emotion that he spoke the first day. And he still didnāt understand it, either.
At one point, Yoosung stopped explaining every move he made, because the event began. He tried not to stop talking to Saeran, but he was getting more complicated every second because of the intensity of the game. It was like that until he completely forgot he was there, and began to play as he always did. He shouted to his teammates every time they made a mistake, tried to encourage the team and made a few important plays.
The game lasted just over an hour and finally Yoosung's team won. Yoosung, exhausted, adjusted his headphones and stretched a little in the chair while the results screen charged. As the screen turned black, he remembered that he wasnāt alone. That this wasnāt his house and much less his room.
Why?
Because Saeran was watching him and he could see it in the reflection of the dark screen. For the first time...
"He... he's looking at me... He was watching me all this time..." he thought, not taking the surprise off his face. However, nothing prepared him for what followed next. Saeran noticed it and made a brief eye contact with him through the reflection, and then turned his gaze immediately to its usual point.
Without a word, Yoosung finished the event, took his things and retired. He didnāt even give himself the time to say goodbye to Saeyoung āhe didnāt notice when Yoosung left eitherā, and ran to take the first bus to leave him near his destination.
After that brief ābut intenseā eye contact, an unfamiliar sensation gripped his chest. It went from his head to his stomach, making him feel strange. He couldnāt understand what was happening... And he wasnāt the only one, since for his part, Saeran felt the same way.
