i've spent so much time making hcs for fanon blacksun and mentally bending their dynamic as i please that i fear i might not enjoy their new canon dynamic after so long 🧍
#ok so the truth is that i was mostly stiff towards v1-v4 blacksn but loved the shit out of their v5/6 selves. i shipped it a lot there!#but like now so much has happened expecially with blake and yang basically becoming each others special person which was the role i used to#give to sun. so i just dont know what to expect or whether i even want blacksun to mean the same things it used to mean to me#to be more specific i fear my internal conflict of interests with bb. since i kinda kin that one more romantically now. but i still ship#ship blacksun too its just that its as fanon so now that they'll stand next to each other again its gonna be really weird for me bc suns not#not the 'special one' for blake anymore and idk what i want to see from their dynamic anymore lmaoooo this is confusing#idk if im making sense lol im excited to see them again but also kinda 🧍..i am also terrified of what the fandom will do when#when both bb and bs are getting moments AT THE SAME TIME if fndm has thought me something is that no discourse really dies so#not looking forward to the return of the bs vs bb preachers

(Rabbithole Anon) Y'know, I was going to send in an ask about just they could have made a compelling way to show how some people may have become hunters through pressure rather than an age excuse if they wanted to say some people weren't ready (joining to protect a friend who wanted to be one, wanting to travel for a variety of reasons, it being a general expectation but the person being hesitant) but it led to me wondering wait, would certain careers require a hunting lisence?
Okay, I love this rabbit hole. XD It illustrates a couple of RWBY problems here and it's the fact that they often are lacking in the character development/character journey department, and that they're often lacking in the world building department.
We actually have plenty of characters that can serve as examples for people who maybe should've thought twice about entering the Academy (when they did.) There are people who entered the Academy for the wrong reasons/not noble reasons, people who entered the Academy during a time they might not have been ready, and people who would be full on dangerous with a Hunter badge, and most of our mains fall under one of these categories (though mostly the first two.)
Ruby - Two years below the standard age of her class. Whether or not she was at the skill level of a first year (she was,) and whether or not she'd received special training from Qrow (she had,) Ruby was still essentially a kid, and her mind and body both hadn't developed completely. Ruby should have been traumatized after the Fall of Beacon and been allowed to show that more as a character, she should've had straight up PTSD, she should've been allowed to have emotion in Volume 4 than Jaune's sidekick who makes sad eyes when she sees him grieving. Weiss - Her main motivation for joining Beacon was to reclaim her family legacy. Yes, her desire was to reclaim it and use it for good, but it was still arguably more about personal and familial glory. On top of that, Weiss has been blatantly anti Faunus and has never so much as addressed that. Weiss's character journey should have reflected more personal growth, and either her unlearning much of her Faunus racism and clearly changing priorities from her name and family legacy and onto the actual people in need, or her flaws should've led her into being more of a morally gray character who displays her selfishness and pride (in a way that's actually addressed and treated like a flaw.) Yang - She expresses admiration for people like Ruby who want to help people and be kind, but her main point in becoming a Huntress was getting thrills and going where the wind takes her. She didn't join Beacon for any sort of serious purpose, and even when she rejoined Team RWBY in volume five, it was to be with her sister and not because of her own morals (not that I think she's lacking in morals, just that her main motive was different.) This could lead to her having to figure out a lot of what she actually wants, being unsatisfied with being a Huntress in Atlas, being in over her head when things get serious, being more mentally exhausted than the others after long days, etc. Jaune - Wasn't ready to enter Beacon. Idk if he just wasn't allowed to go to a lesser combat school like Signal or if he flunked out, but he wasn't up to scratch to get into Beacon and cheated his way in. On top of that, he lacked in the emotional maturity department as well when he entered. Jaune was a little more invested in his own appearance than Ruby was, but still seemed to have similar good reasons for wanting to be a Hunter. And he did grow a lot. But he was much less prepared, skilled, or equipped to deal with the training or the career and it's a miracle he didn't die in the initiation. Granted, Jaune was handled arguably better than anyone else, since a lot of this was addressed, but these days it feels like it isn't actually playing a part in his character anymore that he's way below the people around him, and I feel like it should still be impacting him. Penny: Honestly, Penny seemed very newly born during the Beacon Arc. She might have been combat ready, but she also started spilling secrets to the first person who was a little bit nice to her, and was clearly naïve and childlike. Imagine if it had been Emerald that had befriended Penny instead of Ruby. Penny dying and then getting resurrected should've been deeply traumatizing for her and it should've made her undergo some major changes and been treated with importance in the show. Qrow: Literally wanted to be a Hunter in the first place to try and learn how to murder Huntsmen. He might have changed later and it’s not exactly relevant, but he arguably shouldn't have joined when he did either. Meanwhile, Nora's just one big mystery, because we don't know why she joined, and Ren likely joined for good reasons, but neither of them have ever actually talked about their motivations. The only character we can safely say joined for noble reasons and who was up to scratch and ready when she entered is Blake, who also had good reason to not fully trust the system she was working with, so there could've been complications and character interest there as well.
Please don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean I don't think the others should've been in school, I love that they were! I just think the writers should've explored the various ways they might've been not fully ready, not completely well suited to the job they took. The characters are allowed to be flawed and to flounder and it'd make them more full, nuanced characters imo.
On top of that, we have other Hunters to look to as well, outside of our main cast. Cardin, for example, was a terrible person, still in school and already abusing what little power he had to target a member of an oppressed minority group and blackmail other kids into doing his bidding, while plotting revenge on someone for correcting him on his anti-Faunus answer to a question. People like him should not be Hunters, and he was arguably our first sign (of many signs) that the position of Hunter can and will be taken advantage of and misused by bad people. And although the After the Fall/Before the Dawn books aren't canon, while reading BTD (I haven't finished it yet,) Coco and all her team members but Velvet also struck me as people I wouldn't want to be Hunters and wouldn't want to wield any sort of power. Coco is proudly described by one of her friends as sadistic, lets her unfounded opinions of people cloud her judgement, shows respect and admiration towards criminals, and enjoys her classmates being afraid of her. Fox is self-described as sadistic as well and is a bully who tried to use a classmate's phobia against them in a brute-like interrogation. And Yatsuhashi is leagues above the two of them, but also bullied Neptune despite saying the words 'I don't want to be a bully' and threatened him.
There are so many ways the writers could've explored people who went to Beacon too soon, weren't ready, or entered for the wrong reasons. Instead, outside of one conversation in season two about the girls’ motivations and Ren exploding that Jaune cheated his way into Beacon all the way in season eight, it seems like the only take away we're supposed to get is 'all these kids are officially the thing they wanted to be in the beginning and they're all amazing at it, woo!' No acknowledgement of the fact that they could use higher education still, that some of them are still immature or naïve, that some of them are still below the combat level they should be in, that some of them kinda haven't done super well since they left Beacon (cough Ruby cough.) It's all just... Flat, lackluster. And meanwhile, characters like Cardin were written out of the show easily. We've had plenty of examples of corruption in the Hunter business, but the show hasn't paid any attention to that and still is treating being a Hunter like the only true noble goal and the only good and non-corruptible way to defend people, despite the fact that it clearly isn’t. Being a Huntress is not better or safer or more noble in-universe than being an Atlas soldier/Ace Op/Atlas hunter. Im not saying that all of this needed to be featured, but exploring the differences in motivation and how the Hunter lifestyle affected the various mains could really flesh out their characters. Instead, by the time everyone is heading to Atlas in volume six, they all pretty much have the same reactions to everything and the same motivations and the same beliefs. The rare deviation - like Ren in volume seven and eight - is treated as bad and a mistake that must be rectified, rather than... A natural consequence of the group being full of different people with different upbringings and different motivations that result in different opinions. That sort of thing is only ever explored as a problem that makes someone lacking, and it’s really weird and it makes the show feel... Juvenile, and lacking in nuance or depth when it comes to the characters, which is a really big shame, since the characters have a huge amount of potential and exploring the differences between them and their reactions to being in way over their heads would be - I think - the natural place to take their characters? Especially because so far their storyline has been... Not the highlight of the show.
But, as for how semblances and Hunters should impact the world building, there’s a lot to say about that! They don’t explore a lot in RWBY outside of what’s relevant to the mains, leaving the world building feeling flat and like the world itself doesn’t matter much. RWBY often feels more like a video game world than anything else, which I believe @why-i-hate-rwby-now has pointed out, so credit to them for helping me realize it. There’s one large location per continent and a couple small villages where they only really talk to a town leader and village blacksmith, or encounter a fight, relevant NPCs and characters only going to certain locations that can further the plot, characters only mattering through the ways they interact with the protagonists and seemingly getting benched with nothing to do if they aren’t currently plot relevant, health bars that can be monitored over scrolls, every weapon and semblance has a name even if that name isn’t ever mentioned in show or might not really make a lot of sense, frequently encountered enemies of various threat levels who the characters can plow down without remorse because they’re not sentient or don’t have souls... The list goes on. But one of the ways that it feels very video gamey is that the magical powers actually don’t seem to impact the world.
We know people can have auras even if they don’t have semblances (Mercury, Torchwick, Watts,) and we know lots of even grown people don’t have auras (the citizens of Mantle in danger of dying of cold while our aura having mains aren’t,) but also that auras can be unlocked, by well trained seventeen year olds (Pyrrha,) and we also know that semblances can be unlocked from a very young age due to trauma (Ren, Neptune in EU) but some people are born with their semblances (Qrow and notably Blake use language suggesting they were born with their semblances,) and some semblances are passed down or hereditary (the Schnees.) Semblances can be passive (Qrow, Clover, Ironwood in word of author,) and uncontrollable, or active (almost everyone else,) and some semblances have carried personal negative effects like in the case of Qrow who was even named for being bad luck and Robyn who said people were on edge with her because she can sus out the truth via skin contact when she wants to. Also Mercury’s father was able to somehow take away his semblance.
That’s... Pretty much the extent of our knowledge and it doesn’t tell us much. What RWBY does is give each character abilities that make them iconic and different from each other as fighters, with a shield function that wears down slowly to explain how they can take certain hits and keep going while also allowing them to eventually suffer higher damage when that shield wears down. They had a character get this shield ability unlocked to explain the existence and function of it, and featured some characters who didn’t have the super powered abilities like Roman, an early enemy meant to herald in new, harder enemies who are more plot relevant, and Mercury, who makes up for it by having higher speed and functions exclusive to him through his prosthetics. And then they seemingly built a regular world unaffected by these powers. It sounds like a video game. Civilians just don’t have this power or the shield because they act as non-playable characters. In a way, it almost makes sense to me in conception, because when RWBY was originally created, it was high on visual appeal, fight choreography, and character design. The plot elements were small and the character stories seemed to be pretty simple, the only real complication to this being the White Fang plot, which has always been a major blight in RWBY. But one of the reasons why this video-game feel kinda worked at the start of RWBY was because the story and characters weren’t meant to be the focus of the story, so although the world building at the start was definitely lacking, the audience knew that things like auras and semblances were meant to hype up and add interest to the main highlights of the show: Design and fight choreography. At least that’s what I assume. But in volume three, they started to lay the groundwork for more, bigger plots, more focus on the story, the characters journeying to the outside world, undergoing personal arcs, and that’s what V4 and onward started focusing on.
To be clear, I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. I started really liking RWBY for its potential and concepts after getting through the first couple episodes of V1, but I actually really enjoyed quite a bit of V4 and V5 even though the design drastically changed and the fighting had gone way down in quality because I found some of the new focus on characters and the plot to be compelling, interesting, or to also have a lot of potential (though I was let down over and over in regards to pay off later.) However, with the new focus on the characters and storyline rather than design and fight choreography, they really needed to do some legwork on fixing the aura and semblance systems and paying attention to world building and making sure the world felt well put together, nuanced, and real. And I don’t feel like they ever did that.
Why is Pyrrha able to unlock auras? Well, because the writers wanted to explain the concept of auras and used Jaune - the unprepared - to do it. But now, auras are actually an important part of the story - for example, the people of Mantle don’t have unlocked auras, so will die of cold, but it doesn’t affect our heroes because they do have unlocked auras. So who can unlock auras? Is it a learned skill or is it hereditary? If it’s a learned skill, why isn’t everyone eager to learn it especially in places where it’s life or death if they don’t like in Atlas? If it’s a hereditary skill, why aren’t the people who have that skill put on a pedestal and being pressured into using that skill to save civilians in places where having an aura is the difference between life and death? In either case, why aren’t there people who professionally unlock auras? Why aren’t they on the pay roll in Atlas and Mantle? If it’s a skill that all powerful hunters have, why aren’t our heroes (who we’re supposed to think are now more powerful than Atlas’s best) unlocking auras for dying children in Mantle? Why don’t specialists and longtime fighters with Qrow, Winter, Robyn, Maria, or James have this ability if it comes with skill, time, or talent?
Why are semblances unlocking or morphing in times of trauma so rare? Why didn’t the Fall of Beacon unlock loads of new semblances and new semblance abilities? Why didn’t Ruby get a new semblance upgrade when she saw Weiss getting stabbed? Why didn’t Weiss unlock a new semblance ability when her plane was crashing? Why didn’t Pilot Boi unlock his semblance during the same occasion? Why is it that Jaune didn’t get a semblance upgrade when the light bridges were disappearing? Why didn’t Blake get a semblance upgrade when Yang fell into the void? Why did Ren get a semblance upgrade because he was upset while with the Ace Ops after Oscar got captured, but Nora doesn’t get an upgrade while she’s electrocuting herself? If semblances sometimes unlock in times of truama, why is it that some characters like Oscar and Torchwick and Jaune pre-V5 who we know have encountered lots of trauma just still don’t get semblances? If you can train your semblance into upgrading, why is it that we don’t see long time hunters and fighters unlock more semblance abilities, like Qrow, Winter, Robyn, Maria, or James? It just doesn’t make any sense! And I get that stories always have things happening just because the writers want it, but in RWBY, the hand of the creator is so obvious that it’s ridiculous.
And then there are other questions. Do people avoid bad labor practices out of fear of causing a semblance awakening? Well, from what we see of the SDC, the answer is no. So why not? Why weren’t they worried about an uprising? Work rights becomes a lot trickier when you have to add in tons of qualifiers. Maybe it’s illegal to use a semblance at work, but the SDC also has a history of child workers like Adam who can’t always control it (like Neptune couldn’t control his,) so are there laws protecting child laborers? Perhaps not, since you know, they were already child laborers, so were already suffering unchecked. Are there laws forbidding the use of semblances in government buildings, non-combat driven schools, or parks and libraries? And meanwhile, how would any of this apply to people with a passive semblance? How do you figure out that someone has a passive semblance? How do people know if they’re born with a semblance? Are there people that spend their whole lives having semblances that never get discovered? Do people have semblance detection... Semblances, that they get paid to use or do so out of charity? Did the Schnees rise to power due to their powerful and hereditary semblance, perhaps? Are people discriminated against if they don’t have semblances or pressured to become Hunters if they discover they do have semblances? Shouldn’t civilians in Mantle and Atlas be joining combat schools in droves in the hopes of unlocking an aura so they can better survive? And shouldn’t there be discrimination against people with certain semblances? Outside of Robyn saying she’s personally experienced mistrust, and Qrow’s self-hatred, we don’t see any real prejudice against certain semblance types, or for that matter, any praise or extra significance pointed to certain other semblance types. It would go a long ways towards world building if there were things like people having to divulge their semblance or lack thereof before entering Beacon, or for people to have to register a semblance evolution, or for Emerald to have lied about her semblance because “everyone knows illusion semblances automatically draw suspicion,” or for Qrow to comment that he’d never seen Clover in a Vytal Tournament, only for Clover to say his semblance was deemed ‘cheating’ back when he was in school so he hadn’t qualified. And on the flip side, you could have things like semblances being judged as better and more powerful based on how useful it might be, Pyrrha keeping her semblance on the DL because it’ll just bring more unwanted admiration on her, Sun keeping his own semblance on the DL too because it always make people put a lot of expectations on him, while Neptune’s semblance leaks and he deals with people treating him like he’s selfish and cruel for not wanting to use his own “gift of a semblance.” And people like Jaune could be bullied extra because he doesn’t have his semblance yet, and people in the stands at the Vytal Tournament could be chatting about “when are they gonna pull out their semblances?” and get annoyed and pouty when people don’t. To be fair, we do get things like Mercury’s father having declared his semblance a crutch, but... Still. why isn’t there more of this?
And we see the need for Hunter protection in villages like Kuroyuri and the village that Team RNJR stops to help on the way to Mistral. Small villages outside of the four kingdoms fall to Grimm, or are in danger of falling to Grimm. Ships get attacked by large and dangerous Grimm, we see (corrupt) Hunters on the train to Argus, accompanying for safety, and we see that with a rise of Grimm activity in Mantle, Hunters are dispatched to help kids travel to school. In a world like RWBY, fighting is essential for survival outside of the Kingdoms, and became very essential in the kingdoms as well once schools started going down. You’d assume there should be Hunters accompanying everyone traveling outside of the Kingdoms, resident Hunters living in villages outside the Kingdoms as their on-hand protectors (and more than one Hunters seems to be needed.) Hunters also could be extra protection for anything that’s definitely going to increase negativity, like hiring Hunters to bodyguard funerals seems like something that could be normal in the world of Remnant, and for visiting graveyards (we see Ruby get attacked by tons of Grimm when she visited Summer’s grave in the red trailer.) On top of that, celebrities and rich people hiring Hunters seems like it’d become pretty common. But all that we see outside of Dee and Dudley are traveling Hunters stopping to help people out of the goodness of their heart while they go place to place, and Kingdom Hunters who are assigned to things like border control, clearing out Grimm near or in the Kingdoms, and things like that. What we see is a Kingdom-centered morality complex our protagonists are one hundred percent invested in, Hunters are Kingdom driven and anything outside of that is a kindness, a job they can take or leave in passing. And on top of that, it seems like there aren’t a lot of people in the Hunter profession, and I feel like there should definitely be more. There are people like Jaune who didn’t make the cut but accepted that, we can only assume that there are drop outs too, so like... How many kids are there actually in a year at Beacon? I mean, look at where the Relics were found in the forest during initiation at Beacon.
This gives us a rough idea of how many people are in each year at Beacon. Assuming everyone graduates school and there’s no drop outs and no deaths, that’s a graduating class of twenty. That’s a very small number, comparatively. The job of a Hunter is dangerous. We know of Hunters that died (Summer, Pyrrha, Amber.) We know a lot of Hunters that have other jobs that take a lot of their time (Glynda, Ozpin, Robyn,) and lots of people who quit being Hunters too (Maria, Tai, Raven,) and Hunters who aren’t always on the field like Qrow who was a teacher for a stretch and acted as Ozpin’s spy, the Ace Ops who became part of Ironwood’s inner circle and therefore had a bigger picture, and even all of Team RWBYJNR, who got their Hunter licenses but are also more concerned with bigger picture stuff (if you don’t believe me just look at volume eight where JRY stopped defending Mantle to go rescue Oscar, and Team RWBN + Penny, who were involved in big picture stuff like launching Amity and then saving Penny the Maiden/their friend.) So out of a class of twenty, how many of them are even staying on the field? For a show pushing the narrative that Hunters are the ultimate saviors who are the only true good defense for the world, that condemns even the notion of an army... Like they villainized sending Team FNKI onto the battlefield while also treating it like proof of Ironwood’s evil when he didn’t want to stay and fight when Team RWBY said to, and also made Ironwood’s desire to move into having a robotic army to get soldiers off of the battlefield part of his... Over reliance on machinery, which is full on suspicious considering their ableism towards Ironwood and the fact that he literally has to rely on machinery, but that’s a topic for a different post and this one is already so long. But yeah, my point is that we’re meant to see the army as bad. So if we’re meant to see Hunters as the only true and pure form of defense (which is already off because we know it’s corrupted,) there ought to be way more people in the Hunter field.
As for the schools, we only know of a couple of schools that exist outside of RWBY as combat schools that seem to act as basic training before people go to Beacon. We know of Signal, the school Ruby and Yang went to that Qrow was a teacher at for awhile (I have lots of teacher Qrow headcanons, but sadly Qrow being a teacher wasn’t very well explored,) and we also know of Sanctum in Mistral and (in the EU) Oscuro in Vacuo, presumably one of these existing in Atlas as well. I personally headcanon that there are a lot of these smaller combat schools littering the whole of Remnant (but then again, I also headcanon that the Kingdoms of Remnant are bigger than just one very large city, lol) and that a lot of people attend these schools even if they don’t go on to join one of the Hunter Academies, but this isn’t necessarily supported by canon, I think. But as for other schools...I think it’s fair to assume that there are at least elementary schools, since everyone can read, write, and presumably do basic math, and what we do know is that Ilia went to a prep school in Atlas (which was info dropped in Blake’s pre-V5 trailer, not even stated in the show proper,) so we can probably safely say that people who don’t go to the Huntsman academies go to some form of high school, but you’re right that we don’t see this actually in action. I personally always headcanon that Whitley had a tutor, since Jacques wanted to avoid too much outside influence.
I am so sorry that this response got so away from me and I myself got into so many rabbit holes as well. XD I just have a lot to say about the world building in RWBY (or sometimes lack thereof.) Although I admit that I’m not as into or as good at analyzing as blogs like why-i-hate-rwby-now, but yeah, this is... A very long post. Sorry!

@shipshipshipau
The girl with aqua eyes - although now they were more of a spotted gray - had only seen one moment of weakness from you. It would be the last time Octavia had seen you, and you, her.
“We’re surviving!” She had started shouting, as if she believed that set in a lower tone, her words would be construed as lies. “The human race is surviving! That’s what matters!”
“He wouldn’t be okay with this, and you know it!” Your voice broke involuntarily as it rose to match hers. You shook your head as you tried to desperately stop the ache in your chest as you brought her - probably dead - brother up. Tears clung to your eyelashes, waiting for you to blink so they had permission to fall. Your throat had been closed for a while now, and the rest was merely a weak cry. “If this is the price that we have to pay...maybe we shouldn’t be.”
You’d never know if it was the crack in your demeanor or your choice of words, but either way, her eyes softened when you spoke.
“Look at me.” You did as told and she gripped the back of your neck in one hand, pulling your forehead so close it almost came into contact with hers.
The air changed as Octavia came alive under the monster she wore for armor. Her mask coming off allowed you to let out a breath you didn’t know you’d been holding. You would begin to regret not smashing the helmet to bits while it was off and vulnerable.
“You have to stop listening to them,” She said. “It’ll tear you apart. It’s better they get to live to hate us than die slowly and love us-”
“They don’t deserve this either, O-”
“We bare it, so they don’t have to. You’re the one that told me that. You can’t back out on me, now. I can’t do this without you.”
For so long you were okay with her needing you to do the dirty work. Besides the first time - when you did it together - she’d give the sentence and you’d see it through. Every single time, it felt like it was killing you more than them, but that didn’t matter, did it? If you weren’t going to do it, who would?
It was the last thing Octavia had asked of you and you had no intention of letting her down.
Bellamy didn’t know what he would see when they finally dropped him down into the bunker, but it definitely wasn’t that. Surrounded by more death than he was prepared for, he couldn’t help himself to not move his gaze around the arena. The fences between him and the living reminded him of the cages the Mountain Men held him in. The walls were stained deep with crimson, leaving the dull concrete behind it unrecognizable. He looked to the blonde at his side, and they asked each other the same silent question:
What the hell happened down here?
His whiskey shaded orbs kept moving, albeit reluctantly. They stopped on Marcus Kane, who looked so much older than last time. His hair and beard were inches longer and grayer than the natural brown he used to have. He was so pale, it was unnerving - almost as if he was close to death. They connected eyes briefly and that’s when the younger saw the deadly weapon held to his neck by the hands of-
No.
Your back was facing him, but it didn’t matter how long it had been, he’d never miss you. The locks that adorned your head were longer too, almost to your waist. The natural shade was faded though, like you had aged twenty years instead of six. He watched your shoulders heave and your hands start to shake as Kane talked to you.
He couldn’t pull his eyes from the impure red that dyed your skin and clothes.
While you were distracted, he chose to act, protecting Marcus from his own flesh and blood. He didn’t miss the gears in your head turning as your gaze landed on him. He saw your eyes sink into a trance of recognition and a deep sort of longing overtook your senses. The melancholic need you had tried to numb for half a decade came back in full force and held no mercy.
You remembered how he always smelled of the forest after the sky wept. You remembered how sure but gentle his touch was on your skin. You remembered how his remarkably soft lips would feel when they pushed against yours as they begged for more at every turn. You remembered how it felt to be wrapped in his arms, listening to his heart thump as he assured you everything would be alright, even if he didn’t think it would be.
Was that gone forever, now, too?
Bellamy noticed something else, though; something he didn’t recognize. Something he’d never seen before.
Something that scared him.
It had been hours since and neither of you had bothered to find the other. Getting everyone out was a great distraction for him. Talking to his little sister, whose eyes seemed to hold the same thing yours did, was another. She had explained to him and Clarke that Wonkru had deemed her Bloodreina and you, Ripa. So, no, nothing as special as death from above or the red queen or the commander of death, but death, nonetheless.
People have done well not to forget that.
When Clarke told him you still hadn’t come out and no one had seen you, however, he didn’t have a choice anymore.
The halls were those of nightmares, spirits lurking around every corner and it was cold and empty. He knew the lights were kept low to save power but it felt almost purposeful, like they were meant to scare you. To tell you not to act out or some kind of monster would jump from the shadows and make you pay.
But he didn’t know if it was you or his sister.
A chill slithered up his spine.
If someone told him this wasn’t real, he’d do anything he could to believe them. He wished that he was seconds away from being shaken awake by Raven or Monty, and they would tell him it was just another nightmare. He wished he was still on the Ring, praying ignorantly to anyone that would listen that his family on earth were still okay.
Breaking him from his thoughts, a yellow lamplight caught his attention. At the end of the windowless corridor, it shone out of a slightly ajar door. Using every ounce of strength he possessed to not walk away, he pushed it open. It cried at the motion, diminishing any and all remnants of silence that swallowed the floor.
His eyes found you catching yourself from falling caused by a failed attempt at standing. A half empty bottle of whatever works in one hand, the other one holding you up against the bed frame. The high-pitched creak pulled your attention to the front of the room with a furrowed brow and he allowed himself to take in your appearance.
A wrinkled, cotton shirt sat on your chest and it was a different one than before; faded white and thin, yet cleaner than the other one which was colored with blood. Your hair was damp - the result of taking a shower - but lazily tied back in a half-assed effort to get it out of your face.
You stared at each other for a minute. A million things were hitting your slow-moving thoughts at once, too much for you to even try to comprehend. He finally took one step towards you, parting his lips to say something but no sound came out. He was stumped, hundreds of words flooded his mind but not a single one sounded good enough.
Nothing he could say would make what happened in the arena okay.
It was unbearably painful. There he was, finally right in front of you, and you had no idea what to talk about. No idea what to start with, end with, bring up, discuss, laugh about, cry about, scream about. Nothing was good enough to say to the man that kept you alive for such a long time, such a long time ago.
Too long ago.
You inevitably broke the silence, though your words came out cracked and in a slur. A defensive and humorless scoff left your lips, an effort to cover up the discomfort. Or it was because you were too drunk to shut yourself up. “You gonna say somethin’?”
“I don’t know what to say.”
You didn’t know why, but you hoped he’d sound different. It was childish and irrational, but you hoped that you could say you both changed too much and he would have nothing to hold against you.
Because no matter how far away it seemed, sometimes you could still remember what it felt like to be that innocent seventeen-year-old that hadn’t lived yet; what it felt like to be that girl who still couldn’t stand her father. To be that girl who sprained her ankle within ten minutes of being on earth for the first time. To be that girl who hadn’t made a friend aside from Clarke and Wells in her whole life. That girl who had just kissed a boy for the first time.
The girl who was loved and not lost yet.
“Well, that makes two of us.”
Where the hell did she go?
That made the room spin, and you had to blink a few times to make it stop, taking a seat on the thin mattress. You took a drink, making the liquid slosh from the base to the neck of the bottle and back again. When it settled, you rested your head between your shoulders as you heard him say your name. It bounced off the walls in the room, hitting each one again, and again, and again like it was a bullet waiting to find its target. You had wanted the word to fall from his lips for so long that you’d forgotten what it sounded like. You had forgotten what he sounded like, and you fucking hated yourself for it.
Then you realized he said, “Ripa,” and those four deadly little letters crushed your throat and stole the air from your lungs.
That name hadn’t felt right from the start, but it was what you had been simultaneously promoted to and reduced by. The only person who refused to call you that over the years, was your father. For two thousand days, he made sure to steer clear of it.
That’s not who you are and I know it, even if you don’t.
A sudden and hauntingly raw sob escaped, and you knew his eyes were on you in an instant.
“Don’t call me that,” You begged, meeting his gaze for the first time since he entered. Breath picking up, you were practically terror-stricken at the idea that all you were to him now was a murderer. You vigorously tried to shake the thought away, squeezing your eyes shut as everything that kept you numb seemed to vanish into thin air. “Y-You can’t-Not you too. Please, not you.”
Bellamy’s hand brushed your cheek and tears rained freely. You immediately leaned into the familiar and delicate warmth and you really fucking hoped this wasn’t your mind playing a trick on you.
“It’s okay, Y/N.” When he spoke this time, his words sounded choked too. His other hand cradled the back of your head as he pulled you into his chest and just...held you. “It’s okay.”
It was like you were standing at the edge of a building, teetering the edge before accidentally falling. Only, before you could plummet to your death, someone caught your hand, and it occurred to you that you really wanted them to pull you back up.
“Please don’t leave me again.”
Your voice was just so, so weak. Beaten down and broken.
“Never.” He said it with so much confidence and finality, you almost had to convince yourself it was real and not a dream. “I promise.”

Wish RWBY was better? Try ATLA
To start: Yes, I’m aware ATLA and even LoK probably have much larger fandoms than RWBY already. I think they also have more content and were produced with a larger budget, which means we have to give RWBY some slack. It doesn’t mean criticism isn’t valid.
Since Avatar came out on Netflix, I watched both shows, and I can’t help drawing parallels with RWBY since they’re both animated shows I’ve loved about badass kids/teens with magic powers. And Avatar is SO MUCH better. For instance, inter-party conflict. The Gaang argue ALL THE TIME, and it’s just presented as the normal state of affairs, not some dramatic, crazy detail when one sibling has a slight disagreement with the other sibling. And as much flak as the Mako relationship drama gets in Legend of Korra, at least it had substance to it. We still don’t really know what the problem is with Ren and Nora. Oh, and The Last Airbender handled an unwanted kiss forced on someone who didn’t think it was the right time for romance SO MUCH better, with an immediate, “I SAID I was confused!” and the instigator having a scene right after where they called themselves an idiot, instead of the Renora kiss being presented as romantic or something.
Now I kinda want to write a list of things I feel Avatar does better. There’s a poorly-argued word vomit below the cut:
- The dead mother thing--Salem mentions Summer once with no details, and Ruby completely breaks down? What? Like, grief is fine, but this has literally no foreshadowing since the songs don’t count as full canon, and it made no sense given Ruby’s established (ha) character and the situation. Katara would have flown into a rage, and it would have been so much better.
- Arguments with adults on your side--Pakku was set up as an asshole teacher from the start, and he when confronted with the consequences of his misogyny, he changed his ways for the better. Zuko arguing with Iroh is never intended to have Zuko be in the right. Korra argues with Tenzin all the time, and usually they’re both right, but have to come to a better understanding of each other’s perspective that helps them grow as people. In fact, this conflict drives a lot of the story for the first two books of LoK. Unfortunately, RWBY seems incapable of this sort of nuance. Qrow is just drunk until he isn’t, but then later gets Clover killed, and Ozpin is supposedly just awful.
- Arguments with adults who should be on your side but aren’t--Long Feng SHOULD be on the same side as the heroes, defending the Earth Kingdom, but he isn’t for pretty stupid reasons. But, unlike Ironwood shooting people like a maniac, Long Feng is against the heroes for stupid reasons that (mostly) make sense in-universe: he wants to remain in power. (I still don’t understand why he didn’t just quietly explain that he had the real power in the city, not the king, and shuffle the kids off to whoever was running the military defenses that allowed him to pretend there was no war. I guess he thought if he just gave them the cold shoulder long enough, they’d go away?) Whatever problems there were with Long Feng’s storyline, at least he was consistently written as a bad guy. In contrast, Ironwood is inconsistently written as a good guy who has all the trappings of a tyrant but doesn’t act like it AT ALL, except when he occasionally does something extreme like shoot Oscar. He’s written (I guess unintentionally?) as a subversion of the military tyrant, except when he suddenly acts like one again. It’s like they were shooting for a Tarrlok (sketchy government official who’s both bad for the obvious reasons AND worse than he appears beneath the surface, even though he often works for the side of good) but actually wrote Suyin (someone who could easily be a totalitarian dictator, but decided not to be because of her moral principles, and is actually nice), except occasionally she attacks her allies for disagreeing with her.
- Costume design--I loved Ruby’s, Weiss’s, Ozpin’s, Qrow’s, and a few other original costumes, and Ruby’s had some very solid costumes. However, Volume 7 was terrible. The animation looked weird on Weiss’s braid, Jaune’s hair was awful, and a bunch of them weren’t really dressed for the weather. In contrast, the Avatar characters change outfits whenever it’s appropriate. You know, like real people. (If this is a “3D animation makes outfit changes harder than 2D animation” thing, then maybe 2D animation is just a superior art form when you’re on a budget.)
- Consistent power levels--Katara starts weak and gets stronger. Aang starts as only an airbender and consistently gets better at everything else. Toph invents metalbending and gradually gets more proficient with it. In contrast, RWBY’s Volume 1-3 feats are often better than their later feats, and Aura strength blatantly depends on plot. Yang’s gotten *slightly* better at fighting, Weiss learned a new skill and promptly got her butt kicked by focusing on it too much, Ruby supposedly learned hand-to-hand combat but really just did a headbutt, and RWBY SOMEHOW beat the most premiere team in Atlas after training with them for a few weeks. Sure, Toph, Katara, Azula, Aang, and Sokka are all ridiculous prodigies, but they’re established as such from the beginning. Katara still loses soundly to Pakku before he trains her. (Despite the memes about her kicking the ass of the patriarchy, he’s obviously going easy on her and still crushes her.) Aang gets beaten by Ozai without his OP special ability. Azula gets beaten easily the one time we see her go up against an adult (Iroh, on the ship in the beginning of book 2). And Toph is more like Pyrrha than anyone on Team RWBY. Honestly, this is one of my weaker points, but I still stand by the fact that the Avatar kids’ victories felt much more earned.
- Bad Fights--Yes, I know, heresy. I actually think the best of RWBY’s fights (RWBY vs. Torchwick’s mech, Ozpin vs. Cinder, Pyrrha vs. Cinder, RWBY vs. the Nevermore, Qrow vs. Tyrian) are somewhat more exciting, visually interesting, and (sometimes) emotionally charged than even the best of Avatar’s fights (Aang vs. Ozai, Zuko vs. Azula, Kya vs. Zaheer, Korra vs. Zaheer, Tenzin and his siblings vs. Red Lotus, Suyin vs. Kuvira). But my actual point is that RWBY’s bad fights are BAD, whereas I can’t even think of what the worst Avatar fights are. Sokka vs. Zuko in episode 1 was pretty bad, but that was more of a gag than a fight. Umm...Big Glowy Korra vs. Unavaatu was kinda cheesy, but I still liked it. Meelo fartbending vs. the Equalists? Idk. Meanwhile, RWBY has the Scuffle of Haven, that time Ilia seriously hurt Sun somehow, Qrow vs. Tyrian vs. Clover (visually impressive, but made NO FUCKING SENSE), Oscar landing a massively-telegraphed blow on Neo...well, okay. Maybe there weren’t that many awful fights. I still think I came away from more RWBY fights disappointed, but I can’t really argue my case very well.
- LGBT representation, normalized to the time period--Yes, Korrasami never got past handholding in the finale, but somehow Yang and Blake haven’t either? Even though it’s 2020? Actually, this is a symptom of a larger problem:
- Romantic relationships being ignored--Why won’t RWBY explicitly confirm anything? The RWBY cast are closer in age to the LoK cast than the ATLA cast, but it feels the other way around. Kataang was both heavily present in ATLA the whole time and by no means taking over the plot. And, okay, there was Jaune/Pyrrha, but she’s dead now, so the most-developed ship is Renora. Who held hands, then didn’t talk about their relationship at all for a full volume, and then had a nonconsensual kiss handled worse than the Kataang kiss in Ember Island Players. I’m glad there haven’t been any Romantic Plot Tumors in RWBY, but something would be nice. Or just don’t bring it up at all if you’re never going to develop the relationships.
- Sibling relationships--Yang and Ruby were great as sisters in the early volumes, but lately it’s just been Yang deciding to yoke herself to Ruby’s judgement, until suddenly she’s not anymore. I feel like they barely talked in Volume 7.
- Villains--If Salem wants to kill everyone and collect the Relics, why hasn’t she? She’s invincible! Ozai at least was still human, but he left to handle things himself as soon as he got a power-up. More vaguely, I just find Avatar’s villains more interesting than RWBY’s most of the time.
I’m aware that some/most of these are unfair. It’s more intended as an incoherent rambling to get my views out of my head than as any sort of persuasive argument.

Title: About Courage Chapter: One Characters: Reader and her family Pairing: Blake x female Reader Request: Not sure where to put this and idk if you have any use for this but I need to get this off my brain. I had this idea: the reader dressed up as a man to go to war instead of somebody from her family (Mulan-Style if you want) and Tom Blake finds out. Again, idk if you want to make it fluffy or angsty or if you want to use it at all. I just needed to get it of my mind and I like your writing/blog a lot so here you go. — anon Summary: Two of your brothers already died during the Great War and you could see your mother getting sadder and more desperate every day. When your youngest brother is referred to as missing, you make the decision to go to France as well, to find him and bring him back home. But when you arrive, you soon realise you may have not thought it through. Acting like a man isn’t as easy as it sounds and Lance Corporal Blake is a lot smarter than most other men. Warnings: none Word Count: 2.642 A/N: I never planned on making a multiple chapter fic for 1917, but here I am. I will only post this on Tumblr so all I ask for is, that this fic won’t be reposted anywhere else. Also, this first chapter will only include the reader and her family. Just to explain how she got to France. Tom will appear in chapter two. Special Thanks To: @rubinstein1798, who’s an amazing proofreader. I’m so glad you’re doing this.
Until the 28 July 1914, you were living a happy life. Your family wasn’t rich nor poor. Still, you had everything your heart desired. Worries seemed so far away that you would have never believed in the things that were about to come in the next following years. You were your parent’s only daughter. Then they were Harvey and Milton, your older brothers and Finley, your twin brother. You barley ever argued with them. Milton was a little annoying sometimes, but just in ways, every older brother was. Harvey was a nice man. One of the kinds every girl dreamed of. Cunning, kind and strong. He was intelligent but not as smart as Finley. Your twin was a very quiet person. You could nearly always find him sitting on the armchair in the living room, reading one of his many books. He and mum would spend hours sitting there in silence — him reading, her knitting. Your father spent a lot of his time at work. The only times you’d see him was in the late evenings and on Sundays. But he liked it that way. He loved his job and valued the time with his family even more than most other men who’d be at home more often than him. You always knew you had an extraordinarily beautiful family. There has never been a day on which you weren’t thankful for them. But things changed on the 28 July, when you felt the ground falling from underneath your feet. As the war started your father was one of the first ones who had to leave to fight — alongside Harvey and Milton. It was a devastating day for all of you. You still remember your father’s pale face and the sadness in his eyes as he was caressing your cheek, telling you everything would be fine again and that he’d come back soon. In March 1915 your mother received a letter. A letter which made her cry as she took the framed photograph of your father from the stack and vanished into her room. It was at this moment you and Finley realised your father wouldn’t come back. It took your mother three days to come back to both of you. She would still seem a little absent from time to time, but you never said a word about it. As always you let Finley and your mother sit quietly in the living room. The radio was silent for once. No one dared to turn it on. It wasn’t until February 1916 when you received another letter. This time it was you the postman handed it over to. There was a sad look on his face. You didn’t want to know how many of these he had to hand out every day. Probably far too many. This time it was Harvey who didn’t make it. You were beginning to feel anxious. Milton was now the only one left. That meant until April when Finley would finally be old enough to leave home and to join the Great War. You couldn’t say these to words without sounding disparaging. There was nothing great about this war. Young men were dying every day and for what?
The day Finley had to leave was horrible. Your mother was screaming, crying, begging him not to go. She looked like she’s gone mad. It took all your strength to hold her back as Finley was joining seven of his classmates. The uniform didn’t seem to fit him. And he wasn’t wearing it with pride like the others. It hurt how much he reminded you of your father. The following weeks seemed to be a lot longer than they used to before. Your mother barely ever spoke a word. She wouldn’t leave the house anymore, while you were strolling through the nearby forest more often. The feeling at home was oppressive. Being outside alone, breathing fresh air made you feel a lot better. Just cleaning your head until you’d go back to your mother. You felt like it made no difference if you were there or not. It was like your mother was gone as well. A huge part of her seemed to have died alongside your father and Harvey. So you wrote a few letters to your brothers, but they never responded. You weren’t sure if they couldn’t answer or if the letters simply didn’t reach them. You couldn’t wait for Christmas when both of them would come home for a few days. You missed them terribly. And you were just as worried as your mother. Maybe she’d feel better if she saw them again. Though you were already afraid of when she would have to say goodbye again. But the war wasn’t kind to your family. In September 1916 it was Milton who lost his life at the German front line. And in November you received a letter saying that Finley was missing in action. You mother suffered yet another mental breakdown. It was worse than ever before. You hadn’t had the time to mourn Milton’s dead or to worry about Finley. To take care of your mother, so that she would eat and sleep and take the medicine she got from the doctor took all your strength. In the end, it was too much to handle and so you finally wrote a letter to your uncle.
Chester Thompson was your mother’s older brother. He was one of the few men who didn’t have to go to war. He was leading a big cloth mill. Of course, he delivered the fabric for the soldiers’ uniforms. That was his duty during this time of war and you know he was glad that he hadn’t had to leave home. After he received your cry for help he didn’t hesitate. He would send you and your mother a car that would bring you to London, where he lived in a mansion outside of town. He told your mother in a letter that it’d only be for Christmas and that she wouldn’t have to stay for long, knowing that otherwise, she would have declined his offer. The truth was, he was going to get her to stay longer than just a few days. If necessary until the end of the war. He loved his sister dearly and just wanted to make sure she’d feel better soon. That she’d be able to live on her own again.
It was Christmas eve and you were sitting in the living room with Chester and his son. Your cousin was a bit younger than you and Finley. Smaller and very thin, he still looked like a thirteen-year-old boy. But soon it was his turn to leave home to fight for his country. Just by looking at him everyone could tell he wouldn’t last long. You felt sorry for him, but there was nothing you could do to help. “Your mother really doesn’t look well.” Chester broke the silence between the three of you while lighting his pipe. You finally looked up at him again. He was wearing an expensive suit, but he didn’t put much effort in his hair today since a few grey strands would fall into his face as he leaned over a bit. His hair was just as curly as your mother’s. “It was a wise decision to write to me. I haven’t heard from her in a long time. But you know me, (y/n). I’m not worried about something until I know for sure there’s a reason to fret.” “Father always tried to make mother write to you, but she always refused to do so. She said you should be the one to speak first,” you explained with a tiny frown on your forehead. You haven’t seen your uncle a lot in all your life, so you always thought he and your mother wouldn’t get along. But a soft laugh escaped his lips. “That’s exactly what has always been the problem between me and your mother. We’re both too stubborn to make the first move.” Sometimes adults made no sense. You couldn’t imagine not speaking to your brothers. You could be stubborn, too, from time to time, but not like this. You always tried to be as honest as possible. And if you missed your brothers, you told them. Just like you told them when they were being annoying. To not talk to them simply because you were waiting for them to talk first… That just sounded weird to you. It was silent again. You looked away from your uncle to watch the snow falling outside the window. It looked beautiful. Was it snowing in France as well? You let your mind wander. You know it was possible that you lost everybody except for your mother and yet… “Ches? Do you think, Finley could still be alive?” you spoke quietly. If you wouldn’t have spoken to your uncle directly one would think you were talking to yourself. Chester didn’t answer right away. He puffed on his pipe. Now he was the one frowning. Your cousin was moving on the couch as if he was feeling uneasy. You know it wasn’t a nice topic to talk about on Christmas. But hell, you should have been here with your brothers, your father… But they weren’t here. Even your mother prefered to go to bed early instead of spending some time with you. Yes, it made you sad, but you were also feeling anger. This damn war was destroying your entire life. You still didn’t know what you’d do if it ended. You never thought about a life without your family. All of this wasn’t meant to happen. “Well,” your uncle began to speak slowly. “He’s missing in action, right? They didn’t find his body. He could still be alive. But…” Oh no. You didn’t like the word but at all in this case. “Where could he be? Maybe he ran away. You know, many young men flee from the war. Or maybe his body just hasn’t been found yet.” “Excuse me, please.” It was your cousin who stood up at a pace that nearly made you jump. You looked at him through wide eyes. “I’m heading to bed. It’s late and I’m tired. Good night, father. Good night, (y/n). I hope you’ll sleep well.” And with that, he vanished into his room. Your uncle and you stayed silent until you heard a door being slammed shut. Chester sighed. “You have to excuse Charlie’s behaviour. He’s not feeling well for a couple of weeks now.” “He’s scared,” you stated. It wasn’t even a question. “Yes, very much. He believes he will die as soon as he arrives in France. He… He-” Chester’s voice left him. The older man closed his eyes. You could feel his pain as if it was your own as you were watching him from your seat opposite of him. He was going to lose his only child. You knew he didn’t have much hope for him from the way he spoke about Finley. He was trying to be optimistic, but he couldn’t. Charlie was going to die in just a few weeks. The training at the barracks wouldn’t help him. Chester already told your mother in private that Charlie’s skills weren’t improving. As if his mind resisted learning something that could harm others. Charlie had one week left at home. Just one week. Finally, you stood up as well. “I’m going to bed, too, uncle.”
It was a terrible 25th December. Yes, all of you were handing out Christmas Presents, but no one was as happy or joyful like it should have been. None of you got, what you really wanted. All four of you wished for things which were impossible to give. But you had an idea. A foolish one that could go awfully wrong, but… Maybe it could save your brother and Charlie’s lives. Just as expected you stayed longer at your uncle’s place. One week passed and finally the day you were waiting for came. It was early in the morning and Charlie just went to the bathroom to get ready. You’ve seen him walking through the floor. His legs and hands were shaking. He was so scared. It would be a lie to say you weren’t, but you felt like you needed to do this. Not just for yourself, but also for the rest of your family. Chester and your mother went to church. Probably to pray for Charlie before they would have to come back to say goodbye. So it was just you and the boy. Carefully closing the door to your bedroom, you sneaked over to the bathroom. Nobody seemed to have noticed the missing key you took the night before. Now you used it to lock Charlie up in the bathroom. You hated yourself for doing this, but otherwise, he’d probably stop you from following your plan. “I’m sorry,” you whispered to yourself, before walking away to get into your cousin’s room. His uniform was spread out on the bed. It was clean and neat, ready to be worn. Your hands touched the fabric carefully. Were you really going to do this? You knew the risk. You knew it was going to be dangerous. And you had no training at all. But all you wanted to do was to find Finley. To make sure he was alright. And if your family would play along, it would give Charlie a little more time to stay at home. He wouldn’t have to die. You took a deep breath. You still could have changed your mind, but there was no going back for you. You needed to do this. You had to try. So you took on Charlie’s uniform. To your surprise, it fit you perfectly. You even managed to hide your breast by binding them. You also spend the night cutting your hair. It was short now. Looking into the mirror you found there was not much left of you. You looked like a boy now. And that’s exactly what you wanted.
A sudden and loud noise made you jump. It was Charlie. He was banging his fists against the bathroom door, screaming for help. Again you felt guilty for locking him up so you ran through the floor to talk to him. You knew you had to leave. Your mother and uncle would come back soon and you needed to be gone until then. “Charlie, I’m sorry,” you said as your hands touched the wooden door. “I can’t let you out.” “What? Why?” Your cousin sounded like he was having a panic attack, which did not necessarily make this whole situation easier for you. The uniform felt just as heavy on you as the guilt. “I’m going to find Finley. And… And you are going to have some more time at home,” you tried to explain, knowing what you said sounded insane. “(y/n), what-” “Just hide, okay? Don’t let anybody see you’re still here or we’ll both be in great trouble.” Your voice was shaking. “(y/n), you can’t just-” “Goodbye, Charlie… And good luck.” You let go of the door and turned your back on it as you were walking down the hallway to leave the house. You could hear Charlie screaming your name. He punched his fists against the door again, but it wouldn’t stop you. You were certain to do the right thing. You stopped abruptly in front of the chest of drawers. There was an old picture. It showed your uncle and your parents. Your mother was holding a baby. It must have been Harvey. You touched the cold glass of the picture frame. They all looked so happy. Your eyes filled with tears, but you didn’t allow yourself to cry. Charlie’s screams seemed far away. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry,” you whispered again before stepping out into the freezing cold.

End of Year in Fandom meme
i know on tumblr the tradition is to post a list and then wait for people to ask you before just telling them all your thoughts... but i come from livejournal where we answer all the questions.
here are my thoughts about the things that i really liked in 2019.
if no one reads it, that’s cool! if you do read it - that’s cool too. please talk to me about any of these things. i have strong feelings about them.
Your main fandom this year?
this was, of course, 'carry on'. now there are two books, it might be time to start trying to call the fandom 'the simon snow books', but i don't think it's going to stick.
it's a nice fandom. not overwhelmingly big, but active enough that it's engaging. lots of people's first fandom.
Your favourite film watched this year?
movies is where i'm weakest now music has been removed from the list because i'm been watching long-running TV instead of 2-hour things, mostly.
i really liked the netflix christmas movie 'klaus' - but i would say, my favourite movie was 'steven universe - the movie' which is notable in that it's a movie of a TV show, but for reals. it was SO GOOD. i thought the structure worked really well as a movie, and the fact that it was longer than 10 minutes meant we got lots of proper-length songs :D
Your favourite book read this year?
ok! this is easier. i read lots of great books this year, mostly pratchett. many of which i think i've read before, but my memory is bad and it was a long time ago. there were only a few that i really really felt like i'd read before, like 'night watch' and 'going postal - which are still my favourite-favourites.
the best ones i either hadn't read before at all or remembered very little of were 'wee free men' and the 'amazing maurice'. also, all the middle vimes books - like, had i read 'the fifth elephant' before? i don't know. but it rocked.
also this year - there was a new 'invisible library' book (genieve cogman) which was about a heist (i love it!), two new 'murder most unladylike' (robin stevens), and right at the beginning of the year, 'the wicked king' (book 2 of 'the folk of the air' by holly black - who has never fully worked for me until this series. now it's amazing'.
'wayward son' was my most anticipated book, but it wasn't my favourite of the year even tough i have three copies of it, plus the audiobook, plus the kindle book. i feel for it in a different way than i feel for other books as it is my fandom and it's special to me in a way none of the other books are. it's also not bad, like some anticipated things have been - it just wasn't exactly what i wanted.
but, you know - bring on 'any way the wind blows'. it's set at watford. i am down for that.
Your favourite tv show of the year?
TOO MUCH CHOICE, ARGH.
2019 was, for me, the year of (animated) television shows that blew my mind with how much i loved them. if i had to choose one... i'd have to go for 'ladybug' but it's a tough call.
i love 'ladybug', even though it's a monster of the week show for kids that is written in another language and dubbed. somehow it transcends this and is SO GOOD and fun.
closely followed by:
steven universe (of course)
mob psycho 100. (how the hell did it get so good so fast? the first episode was like, eh, i guess this fine, and then it was about FRIENDSHIP, and growing up, and compassion.)
my hero academia (a late entry, i literally watched it last week. SO GOOD OMG)
yuri on ice!!!
haiyku!!
i also really enjoyed/am enjoying 'she-ra' and i'm enjoying 'the dragon prince'.
did we watch anything that had real people in it? yes. (i also watched a lot of starkid musicals - which doesn't fit anywhere on the list). but it wasn't as good.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
see above.
all the anime and ladybug are all massive fandoms/massive megafandoms that i'd never heard of because i am an ignorant westerner (this is what tumblr is good for, to be fair to it - forcing you to interact with random stuff that people who share one of your interests are also interested in - i have found many things that i like from seeing gifs of them). i read some yuri fic but i didn't want it to suck me in, before i was read to leave 'carry on'... so i backed away. i haven't read any 'ladybug' fic for the same reason.
and i dont ship stuff in BNHA so what's the point? (except maybe all might/eraser head, but i think maybe that' because i like them both the most as characters and they've been in some scenes together. and are adults. and all might is really gay - not a good reason to write fic) (or is it?) (no - i've got lots of 'carry on' stuff to write......)
Your biggest fandom disappointment?
it feels like the answer should be 'wayward son' after what i wrote above, but i wasn't actually disappointed at all, if that makes sense. although i wanted to be filled with overwhelming love, i didn't expect it - it was more like i was desperate to read the book (particularly because loads of people got it early, but i didn't) and my head was just full of white noise for weeks during september. even things like the 'steven universe' movie coming out didn't stop my brain saying 'WHERE IS WAYWARD SON???'
and then when i got it was like - yeah, this is all right - not my favourite, but now i know what happens i can process it. what a relief.
ok! i know what my actual biggest disappointment was - i REALLY wanted to like the new 'his dark materials'. it looked great! it was long - which i thought would mean it would be good. i had lin manuel miranda in it!
but i didn't get past the first episode. it just had far too many random boring scenes, and james mcavoy was all wrong for asriel, and i just hated it.
Your tv boyfriend of the year?
HMMMM... as usual, i love too many. (erin is well aware of this terrible state of affairs - if there's a rubbish and yet strangely competent stringey man in something, she knows i will like them too much).
i probably feel closest to adrien agreste, even though reigen arataka (mob psycho) is exactly my type.
and let's not even talk about how beautiful viktor nikiforov is. it should not be allowed.
Your tv girlfriend of the year?
this one is easier (alas indeed - we watch television programmes about MEN). it's marinette dupain-cheng. she is so smart and kind!
also - the worst witch wasn't very good this year (so it didn't get on the list, see above), but hectate hardbroom is still great.
and, of course, i have always loved the doctor. is it right to put the doctor here? people have started using non-binary pronouns now. idk - i'm going to say she's a woman right now.
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
eeeeer.........
renaissance faire sword fight in 'wayward son' maybe? (it was about 7am, i can't really remember but i think i was happy)
or something like - spoilers - the end of the most recent season of haikyu!! you'd think - surely the heroes will win, but what i've learned in anime is that sometimes... they don't. and so i was genuinely invested in whether or not they would get into the nationals. and THEY DID!!!!
The most missed of your old fandoms?
B7 - i definitely miss it more than doctor who, athough obviously i did go back for thirteen. (i liked the series - it was perfectly nice, and i was one of the people who didn't want a female doctor because the doctor's always been a rubbish man and i thought that was part of his thing. but now that there is a female doctor i'm much more like - shit, i wish i was the doctor, but i guess she's really good. the episodes themselves are just fine, though. it doesn't make me fannish)
i wrote a thing for 'blake's 7' because i was asked to by someone who is really lovely, and i met up with mrsunderhill from tumblr and we talked about fic stuff - and she told me that a lot of russian-speaking fandom followed me from doctor who to B7, which i did not know. (hello russian-speaking fans, if you are here).
but it was hard going - i realised i'd lost the knack, but also how great the show is. i probably won't read any more who fic unless it's by people i know, but i would still read B7.
just probably not anymore 1990s gen. i started selling the zines that i know i'm not interested in.
The fandom you haven’t tried yet, but want to?
i already said 'don't tempt me, frodo!'
i'll go looking once i'm fed up with 'carry on' and not before.

One month into V7, and it's already been a crazy ride. IDK if I’d call it crazier than V6’s first few episodes, but it’s certainly close. There’s been so much talk in a short amount of time. Ruby’s lie to Ironwood. Ironwood in general regarding his choices. The villains and their schemes. The state of Mantle and it and Atlas’ potential fates. Pretty much everything has been discussed in depth in one way or another. And I’m sure that this chapter will give us even more things considering what happened. So, I guess we better get to it, huh?
Overview
With the Dust Mines all cleared, the military brings Amity Arena over while our heroes are busy gushing over the badassness of the Ace-Ops. Though Ruby s surprised to learn from Harriet that they aren’t friends, they just work together. It doesn’t help when Ruby tries to convince WBY to go exploring when they get back to Atlas, but none of them are interested due to either being tired or the fact that they did exploring all over Anima. Worse? Ironwood speaks to Ruby, Jaune, and Qrow, telling them about a recent string of murders which includes Forest from last week (RIP #FRWBY). This has only made Ironwood’s image, as well as Atlas’, even worse and Jaune points out how maybe it wouldn’t be as bad if they didn’t put out the Dust Embargo. Ironwood… actually agrees, and he is hoping that RWBYJNR can do some good within Mantle. The talk is cut short, however, when Ironwood is informed of someone landing. Someone that he is not looking forward to talking to.
We cut to the area where the ship landed… and a familiar company logo is on the hangar door. Out comes… ugh, Jaques Schnee. Yep, this asshat is back and he is furious that Ironwood took over the mine site, even after Ironwood tells him that since it’s a military operation there was no council vote required. Jaques starts to go off… until he sees Weiss. He’s furious that she’s been back in Atlas and not told, assuming that Ironwood has something to do with it, but Weiss makes it very clear that she’s there by her own choice as it was when she left. Jaques is pissed… but then calms down, and cue the gaslighting when he comments on how Mama Schnee is doing badly due to Weiss leaving. He turns to then thank Ironwood for screwing himself over as poor Weiss is left utterly derailed. Fortunately, the other three girls stand by her with Blake holding her hand, which encourages Weiss to call them her family when Jaques turns back to her.
Winter arrives just as Jaques leaves… as does Penny, who sends our girls flying. Oops. She’s there to congratulate them. Why? Well, we cut to inside Amity Arena, the location where everything changed for everyone. Why are they there? Well, Ironwood speaks of RWBYJNR’s actions from the Fall of Beacon, to defending Haven, to now and says that they aren’t acting as students. They are acting as Huntsmen and Huntresses. As such, he grants them their Hunting Licenses. That’s right everyone, after seven seasons, our kids are FINALLY official Huntsmen and Huntresses! Yay!!! Ironwood is relieved that he has fighters that he can trust helping him, which haha… that sure isn’t plunging the knife in deeper regarding Ruby’s lie or anything! Ironwood has to return to managing the current operation, leaving the kids to enjoy their cake and celebrate their accomplishments. Despite this, they all feel it’s almost trivial now after all that they’ve been through, but Qrow encourages them to take the time to enjoy themselves for once.
Everyone celebrates… well, almost everyone. Ruby has opted to sit alone in the stands while the others enjoy themselves. Qrow goes to her, clearly proud that his niece has made it to this point, but he can tell that this, the current events, and the lies have gotten Ruby conflicted. Ruby expresses how she’s worried that she’s acting like Ozpin, though Qrow tells her that while Oz only trusted himself with the truth, Ruby does still trust others and is just waiting for others to prove themselves. He says that Summer would be proud of her… which gets Ruby to ask a question that we have wanted to hear for SOOOO long now. Was Summer’s last mission, the one that she never returned form, Oz related? According to Qrow… no, it was not. We confirm that Qrow was NOT with Summer on that mission, and Oz appeared as lost and confused as him and Tai. But of course, now that Qrow knows the extent of Oz’s lies, he can’t be for sure. But he does know that had Summer found out the truth, she’d do as Ruby is now: press on.
So as the kids sign up for Huntsmen missions (with poor Jaune getting saddled with escorting children XD), we cut to the Schnee Manor where Jaques is drinking in his study. He’s interrupted by Whitley informing him of a visitor. One who invited himself in. It is, of all people, Watts. Jaques is stunned by this, sending Whitley away and says that Watts is supposed to be dead. But we don’t get any more details on that as Watts is there for business. Why? Well, you know how Jaques is running for council? Well… let’s just say that Watts knows of a way for Jaques to have his cake, and eat it too. Ho boy, things are about to go insane…
Review
A calmer episode compared to the past few, but still really good!
So let’s go into Schnee drama first. I hate Jaques. I didn’t think that I could have him more than I already did, but I was proven wrong. That’s not a complaint either. Jaques is very well-written and a perfect embodiment of an abusive asshole. He not only lashes out angrily when things don’t go his way, but he’s even scarier when calm. The way that he tried to gaslight Weiss after her open defiance, bringing up Mama Schnee and ‘how she gets’ when upset. Trying to make Weiss feel guilty, even though it’s HIS fault that his wife is in such a state and he clearly doesn’t care. It’s just cruel and incredibly scummy, but not a surprise coming from him. We also see at the end that even though Whitley is his favorite and has groomed him to the point that even Watts notes the similarities, even he isn’t immune to being talked too harshly and we see that the kid is clearly afraid of him. Is it any wonder why Winter stayed in the army van until Jaques left? I don’t blame you, hon.
I loved seeing Weiss stand up to him though. She spoke up for herself and made it clear that she wasn’t going to let Jaques control her anymore. Yeah, his gaslighting brought her back down, but he didn’t beat her either as she has RBY there beside her. Seeing all three supporting her was so sweet and so perfect and Weiss calling them family? Beautiful. Special mention to Blake though. You can tell that she absolutely knows the game that Jaques is playing since… well, that’s what Adam did to her. Her holding Weiss’ hand was such a sweet gesture and just shows how much these girls love and support each other. It was such a well-done scene, and I loved it!
So… our kids are Licensed now~ This was, honestly, a long time coming. Yes, we can debate on if they’re truly ready for it or not. But at this point, they’ve gone far and beyond what was expected out of them. They fought in the Battle of Beacon. They went to Haven and defended it. They reached Atlas. They’re now fully a part of this larger conflict and, despite any rough patches, are all committed to it and their duties as Huntsmen and Huntresses. It only makes sense that they are granted their licenses at this point. But the question is, is Ironwood giving them the licenses because he believes that? Or is he aware that they’re not telling him something, and trying to do things to get their trust? It could be either one or could even be both. Either way, that’s where we are now.
But the event is treated with little fanfare, tbh. Which again, isn’t a complaint. I honestly quit thinking about them getting their licenses since about V4, since RNJR at leat were pretty much acting as such by then. There have been so many other things that have happened that I gotta agree with Yang, it does feel trivial now. I’m glad that it happened, but it just feels like ‘oh this happened, that’s cool’ over anything grand or triumphant. Still, I’m glad that they are licensed and it was nice that they could take it easy for a moment. That much they’ve absolutely earned. It was cute too, like Nora piling up on cake, Yang playing the removable arm trick on Penny, and Bumblebee selfies. I liked it~!
The highlight though is, of course, Ruby and Qrow’s talk. First, it’s so nice to see Qrow be an encouraging uncle again. I did not like Qrow during V6, even if I get why he was like he was. So seeing him in a much better headspace and being able to support his niece really helped remind me of why I like Qrow as a character so much. Jason Liebrecht has been doing such a great job voicing Qrow as well. He just puts so many little touches in the performance that lets him express so many emotions, and it’s fantastic. It was especially needed since Ruby’s clearly struggling. She tried to get the others to do some fun stuff like they used to, but they aren’t interested. She finally got her license, the thing that she’s wanted since a little girl, but at that point so much has happened that it didn’t really matter anymore. She’s worried and feeling guilty about her recent decisions, and is worried that she might end up like Oz, lying to everyone around her and making decisions that ultimately do nothing and lead others to their deaths.
There’s a lot weighing on Ruby right now, and I’m fairly sure that it’s only going to get tougher for her. But it was so nice to see Qrow comfort her, especially after how much Ruby tried to make him open up and talk to her last volume. Say what you want about her speeches, but they clearly helped Qrow as demonstrated here. But of course, we finally have Ruby ask about Summer. Nothing too major is revealed except that her last mission at least appears to not be Oz-related and Qrow wasn’t with her. Which… leads to something I’ve been wondering about for a while. Is Summer dead? All that we know is that she never came back, so maybe she was just presumed dead. But if she’s alive, where is she? I have some ideas, which I talked about here if you’re interested. But if she is alive… then why did she never go back home? Plenty of questions, but we can only wait for the answers. But hopefully, it won’t be too much longer now.
Then we have the ending. Ho boy… so Watts knows Jaques. And he’s supposed to be dead. Wondering why that was necessary, but it doesn't seem like Jaques is surprised that he’s alive. That he’s in his house? Absolutely. Alive? Mmm… not to me. But then what the heck happened that caused Watts to fake his own death? And what’s Jaques’ involvement with it? It was probably something bad, but still. But yeah, Watts is going to help Jaques out it seems. What for? Well, I've talked about what I think the big plan would be, and if I’m right… ho boy, it's gonna be America during 2016 all over again. It’s gonna be interesting to see how this plays out, especially on the Mantle side of things. Which may be coming soon, going of the thumbnail for next week...
As I said, this was a calmer episode compared to the first three. But that’s not a problem at all. The pacing was good. There were some great character interactions. It helps push along the narrative and allows characters like Ruby, Weiss, and Qrow to show off their character development. The animation was good, especially with the more cartoony moments. Thunder Thighs makes me cackle every time. This was Eddy Rivas first episode as writer, and he did a fantastic job! As did directors Dustin Matthews and Paula Decanini. They did an excellent job here, and I loved it. If V7 keeps up the level of quality, I think that it can rank up there with V3 and V6 as the best~!
Chapter Five Predictions
We saw in this episode that two individuals were spying on the Amity Arena activity, one of them being a Faunus girl who has a certain emblem on her clothing. It appears to be Robyn Hill’s emblem. This, as well as Robyn being on the thumbnail for the episode, confirms her finally making her debut. She’s likely going to be informed of the recent activity, though whether she’s aware of Ironwood’s plan (at least the satellite part) remains to be seen. But if not, she’s likely going to want to know why. Which hopefully means that we get to see how she leads/operates the Happy Huntresses and how she’s running her campaign for council.
Speaking of, we’ll probably get to see the actual election and what the respective candidates are doing. Since Jaques is now with Watts, I expect plenty of smear campaigns and corruption going around to make Ironwood and perhaps Robyn look worst. Like I said, the American 2016 Election all over again. It likely also means seeing more chaos and protest in Mantle, ones that I doubt are going to be peaceful. And then we have Jaune on his first mission, and I thin that Miles’ ‘thirsty moms’ comment is about to come into play, haha. Not sure about the rest of the gang, or even if we’ll see Oscar after he was absent here. Guess we’ll find out soon~!
Episode Stats
Favorite Character: Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, and Qrow Branwen Favorite Scene: Weiss facing Jaques/RBY supporting her Least Favorite Scene: The Mission Board since it just kinda dragged. Favorite Voice Actor: Jason Liebrecht (Qrow Branwen) Favorite Animation: Thunder Thighs Rating: 8/10
Final Thoughts
A slower episode, but a great one nonetheless. Great character writing, great accomplishments, and of course more development of the plot. Moments like Weiss against Jaques, Ruby and Qrow’s heart-to-heart, some talk on SUmmer, and our heroes getting their Huntsmen/Huntress Licenes made me smile so much, and all without feeling cramped or forced. I think that we earned a breather, and this one delivered without feeling boring. Eddy did a great job and since he confirmed that he also wrote Chapter 5, which is 20 minutes BTW, I am super excited to see what else he brings us~!

what are your favorite ships on the show and can you tell why u ship them
Bellarke, of course. I actually ship them most of all ships not because of the romance, but because their relationship is woven into the narrative base of the show in a symbolic and archetypical way. Bellarke does it for me most, not because of the romantic tropes, although those are fun to watch, but because of the mythic storytelling elements. This isn’t a romance show, but I believe this is the epic tale of Bellarke. I believe that Bellarke is canon. Just because it’s taking us a long time to get to the kissing doesn’t mean it’s not their love story. Not all tv shows have a long term narrative intent, but I believe this one does. And that the original outline for this show was based on Bellarke confirms to me that this show is about their love, even if it’s not a romance, like the book is. It is The Bellarke Show And JR has admitted that they are both the backbone of The 100 AND the central relationship, so…. not sorry.
Memori. Why do I like them? Because neither of them are heroic characters and yet, they are so great. They are scroungers and scrappers and Murphy is the most honest character on this show. He can’t even lie to himself, which most of the other characters do. And Emori is great because she’s never had anything, at all, she’s always been on the bottom of the heap, more than anyone on the show, and she doesn’t let that stop her. So happy they’re part of a family now and that they are working through their issues.
Marper. Before I joined fandom, I lowkey shipped Marper. I also wouldn’t have minded Harper and Miller, because I saw their relationship, too. I think that turned out to be a platonic partnership (I am sorry we won’t get to see them back together in season 6) and i didn’t know he was gay. I saw Marper in MW, but after reading fics and joining tumblr, i saw Minty, too and came over to the Minty side. When Bryan appeared and Marper happened in s3, I readjusted. Although I never shipped Briller, I easily fell back into Marper, and at this point, I find Marper so profound, accepting, loving, supportive and beautiful that when I see Minty fics I almost feel like Marper is being betrayed. So I’m still dealing with that.
Mackson. SO love Mackson 100 times more than Briller. I never got over feeling like Bryan was a redshirt and refused to get attached. Jackson was always ours. And I love their caring, supportive relationship now, even if it’s mostly background. Want to see more in s6.
Niytavia. It is not canon. I usually only ship relationships where i can see a connection in canon. I see that here. But we have gotten nothing conclusive. I saw it first in s3, but clearly that was too early after Lincoln. But it was also in s4 and 5. Without ever telling us exactly what their relationship was, and leaving too many blank spaces in season 5 to allow us to figure it out. I used to think that Niytavia could bring Octavia back from the edge, but clearly Octavia was too strong a personality and instead, she brought Niylah to the edge with her. I still think Niylah could help Octavia find peace in season 6.
Zaven. I’m looking forward to a good ship with them, because I like Shaw and love Raven and he seems like someone who is as quality as she is. But i haven’t seen the kind of things that I love in a ship in the canon yet. I might have had expectations that are too high. IDK. For me they are a hopeful ship but i do not love them yet. Like them, but waiting for the swoon factor.
I don’t really ship Kabby, although I like them. Their first kiss got me on board with them, but before that, I kind of lowkey shipped Kindra. kabby hasn’t gotten enough attention in s4 or 5.
Didn’t ever love Linctavia. Like but it never did it for me. Too cutesy maybe? idk. How do we explain why a ship doesn’t do it for us? I’m still confused as to why I don’t ship Kabby, they are my age. but it just doesn’t do it for me.
I think I put my ships in order of preference and investment. At this point, except for Bellarke and Memori, though, I am mostly focused on the non-romantic ships and brotps. princess mechanic, team cockroach. millamy. the blake siblings. murven. clarke x madi x bellamy. clarke x octavia.
Special note: I used to ship bravenlarke as an ot3, but i feel that in canon, bellarke has been focused on so much and raven has not (in their relationship) that they are no longer an equal ot3 so it doesn’t work anymore. They’ve made br/aven platonic and princess mechanic needs serious fixing which I am REALLY invested in for season 6. also, as for ot3, I could have seen bellarcho, but again, they focus too much on how bellamy loves clarke and not enough on how he loves echo, so it wouldn’t work to me. too unequal. they are seriously building bellarke as the epic love story. nothing else compares, although we see echoes through other relationships.

10 Shipping Questions
Rules: Answer these 10 questions and tag 10 people.
Tagged by No One but @professorbellarke said anyone should do it so i am
Tagging: @dracovengeance @the-most-beautiful-broom @hedaalicia @nightbleeder @pillowprincesslexa @raven-reyes-of-sunshine @bellamynochillblake @bisexualbellamys @bellamy-fucking-blake @amihanmayari
Ultimate OTP: I honestly feel like its Bellarke, but Stydia was the first ship i ever truly like, obsessed over, so they hold a special place in my heart.
A ship you’ll always love: As i’ve gotten older a lot of ships i loved have lost their shiny feeling for me. I love Nathan/Haley (OTH), Bellarke (T100), Stydia (TW), Scira (TW), Memori (T100), Rory/Jess (Gilmore Girls) and Brooke Davis/Happiness. thats really my mains.
My current obsession: The 100, which is just... its taken over my fucking life honestly. All the ships, Memori, Bellarke, Zaven, im so into all of it.
A ship you never thought you’d like: See i’m a huge multishipper, so I dont really have any outright opinions about ships that are negative, until i see a reason to dislike them. So i dont have one of these, where i thought i’d dislike them and now i dont. idk.
A ship you liked but don’t anymore: I loved Delena and Chuck/Blair, but now i realise that they were both so weirdly toxic? like i dont like their like, opposing ships in their place now but i just sort of feel nothing for them anymore.
A ship you think should be canon: Bellarke, obviously. Rory and Jess.
A canon ship you hate: I TRULY hate Peyton/Lucas, but im glad they ended up together and their toxic asses left Brooke Davis to be at peace, finally. I also thought Dair in Gossip Girl was stupid and random, like they had no idea what to do with their plot so they were like “well blair hasn’t been with Dan yet!”. I also detested Lydia/Jackson, but i think we were supposed to hate it because he’s such a dick. I didn’t really enjoy CL, but i didn’t hate it, it was mostly because it felt undeveloped more than anything. Like i thought their dynamic in season 2 was so interesting, and then in s3 they just trashed it because they needed to get to the romance in such a short window of time. It was rushed and i had no connection too it, which was weird since i DID have a connection too it in s2. I also have grown to hate Linctavia because (1) Octavia has basically bastardised everything about Lincoln’s memory and become a thing he would hate in his name, which is such a fucking annoyance, and (2) because she is such an abusive person to the people in her life, rewatching s2/s3 really showed me that she was downright cruel to him so much, just because he was trying to find a new place in the world that didn’t jive with what she wanted.
A ship you’ve been shipping for years: Good lord. Bellarke is coming up on 5 full seasons now. Stydia i shipped for 6 seasons.
A ship everyone loves but you don’t care about: Maybe CL fits better here? idk. I’m also really whatever about Kabby on the 100, like i didn’t super love the idea of it at the beginning and now its 6 years later and i still dont feel like it makes sense? like i dont feel their chemistry, it feels like they needed an adult romance and Kane/Abby were the only two that made sense because it sure as shit wasn’t gonna be Jaha. ALso theres a huge group of people who love Ster/ek and i literally can’t stand it.
Favorite rarepair: I really loved the concept of Sea Mechanic, it was such a great idea that the fans sort of threw out and the show didn’t really notice the potential of? Minty, which might not be that much of a rarepair but its so far from canon that im counting it?

So I’m just going to let loose with some potentially unpopular opinions about our deteriorating rpc and what I- both personally and based on talking with others- think is our problem, which of course is us.
Story time, when I first started writing roleplay online the people I met used this as a hobby, a break from life, a way to enjoy characters outside of media. Was there discourse? Sure, occasionally. But they didn’t put much stock in this because it was a hobby and they didn’t have to care about these random online presences they met through writing, they just had to enjoy the writing. And they were so much happier than we are now, guys.
The tumblr community seems to operate under the exact opposite of that theory. People use this as a validation for when life isn’t going smoothly. Which alone is a whole other can of worms because tumblr is that kind of toxic that pretends it’s progressive but really it’s just toxic.
The tumblr rpc takes characters/the show plot way too seriously (I say fully aware of my intense love of Bellamy Blake and my subsequent dislike of t100 s5) but there seems to be a trend of letting this affect you on and offline, and affect those around you. You can’t stand seeing this Thing, it makes you sad/upest/angry/ick/ect. But instead of blacklisting or tublrsavior’ing your way away from it, you don’t want to because some of your friends talk about it and it feels “rude” and you end up feeling disgusted on your own dash. It’s not rude to not talk about shit that annoys you. This is a hobby. You shouldn’t feel annoyed doing your hobby.
On that note, no one treats this like a hobby anymore. They treat it like a job, a popularity contest, an all-inclusive-or-you’re-a-giant-bag-of-dicks kind of thing. You can’t just write what you like, or what you’re feeling, because then you’re labeled “elitist”. You can’t just write with your friends for the same reason. You HAVE to write with everyone who wants to write with you or you’re labeled “unfriendly” or “bitchy”. You HAVE to respond to threads in a timely manner or you’re accused of “ignoring” people or “forgetting” them which seem to be equal insults whether or not it’s true. You HAVE to be nice and friendly and peppy all the time or you’re labeled “mean” or again, “bitchy”.
Now, best case scenario if any of the above happens, you get a few bratty people or a few bratty anons and life goes on. Worst case scenario the guilt tripping and the vague posting starts, and once it starts it rarely ends. People put so much importance in being important to online presences on tumblr, and when they feel wronged/upset/ignored/invalidated/ect the ooc posts start up, designed to entice sympathy but really just making people uneasy and uncomfortable because these posts are directed at them as though they’ve done something wrong to make someone feel this way, but it’s almost never about them, it’s about the poster.
You’re not allowed to like certain things. You’re not allowed to dislike certain things. You’re not allowed to say this, or that, because it’s offensive. And I’m not talking ‘you can’t make a racist joke’ I’m talking ‘you can’t dislike this character over a personality because they’re a poc and that makes you racist’. That’s what tumbr is guys. It is the extreme leftist, where everything you say is potentially offensive and you’re surrounded by literally millions of people with the protective cover of internet anonymity who are just waiting to crucify the next person for the next perceived slight.
As though there haven’t been enough rules, there’s the rules about following/writing with people. You can’t unfollow people, at least not without A. having to explain yourself to them or B. inspiring a string of guilty-trip/sympathy posts painting you as the bad guy who made this person feel so shitty about their life and themselves. You can’t just not want to write with a certain character, because that’s reflective of your feelings about the mun apparently. You can’t just not see yourself writing against a style, because that’s reflective of your feelings about the mun apparently. If you DO end up writing because you don’t want to be painted as an asshole, you can’t stop writing, because then it’s indicative that the mun has somehow offended you and angered you. You can’t ask to change shit in a thread because then you’re saying the mun can’t write right. And the breaking of any of these rules end up in vague, guilt-trippy posts that “aren’t about you” but we all know they are, even if we can’t prove it because they were deliberately vague. And a lot of these guilt-trippy posts are tagged with ‘delete later’ ‘idk why i’m saying this’ ‘it doesn’t even matter idk why I’m upset’ ‘i dont’ want to talk about it’ but like, those are clear lies because why make the post in the first place then? You want the attention, you just don’t want to explain why you made a post rather than spoke to someone directly. Which I mean, we all want attention that’s why we write on a public forum. Just own up to it.
Even the supposedly simple concept of friendships isn’t exempt from being poisoned by the tumblr mindset. You can’t just have internet friends anymore. And that’s largely because of what I outlined earlier about this not being treated as a hobby and people putting their self-worth into the internet ( again, extremely unhealthy please for all that is good go outside, make in-person friends, find a different hobby, love yourself bc the internet will not ). The friends you make on here have to be important to you, have to be a priority, have to be loved and cherished and doted on and you have to do this for eeeeveryone. You can’t just be vague ‘we write together’ friends, you have to be best friends. And while yeah, you will definitely bond with some people on here in a way that translates offline, the statistical probability of that happening with every single solitary person you ever meet around here ( especially given that you have to try to give everyone a chance or you’re an asshole ) is astronomical. And for those that you don’t end up bonding with in that way? You guessed it: sad, guilt-trippy posts about how they’re not worth being special to people.
I might be paraphrasing here, but it seems to me a lot of the issues people have on tumblr can be solved by simply caring less. Not to be confused with not caring, don’t misunderstand. Sill try to be nice, try to be a decent person, don’t go out of your way to be an asshole and if you find yourself hitting the anon button for anything other than sending an ask from a sideblog, you’ve done something wrong.
But this is a HOBBY my guys. Let it be a hobby. Let it be something innocuous and easy and mindless and fun. Not everything that someone does is a direct shot at you, your self confidence, or should have this big an impact on your self worth. Because these are just people on the internet, and in the rpc we’re just connected by a love of writing… or procrastinating writing, which lbr is way more common.
#preachover
#i've been feeling all sorts of ways about the rpc lately#and i know personally other people have been as well#and it all boils down to the fact that there's five million rules of how not to hurt someone's feelings#and it's exhausting#rant cw#long post#ooc

A/N: I turned it into an AU 😊 for a request it’s kinda long, idk what happened… I kind of drifted away 🙈 I hope you like it!! Any similarities to other writers’ work are not intended. All ideas used in a fanfiction I post are made up in my brain (as long as it is not a request).
/////
There was always that wall of noise you ran into, when you left the museum after your shift. Inside it’s silent and peaceful. Museums had that special atmosphere of safety. A place where you felt protected. Libraries had that atmosphere too. And as soon as you stepped out of the backdoor, reality and the hectic and loud daily life of Hanna City was thrown into your face.
The sun was setting, flooding the small streets with orange and red. Hanna City always seemed like you could look to the end of the horizon. There were no hills, no up and downs, just plain straight and houses neatly placed at the curbs. Feeling the last bit of warm sunshine on your face felt good. It was the opposite of dipping your face into a flat water surface. But both felt good.
When Kylo left the museum through the backdoor you were already standing there again, waiting. Not for him of course. You waited for that tall, blonde girl to pick you up. And she was late. Even if he never met her, Kylo liked your friend that was always too late because that gave him a chance to stand next to you for a few minutes.
He didn’t think he would enjoy the insides of a museum so much, when he first started working at the register. But soon it seemed like the museum was a portal into another galaxy. He didn’t only find a relaxing silence in there, which his friends joked about whenever Kylo mentioned it, he had also found you. He had never met someone who was as introvert as you but at the same time the most open and kindhearted person. In the mornings you were a little rubber ball, unstoppable and full of energy. And in the evenings you were a balloon losing air.
He didn’t understand why it was so hard for him to talk to you. Words just left him, when he found the courage to approach you. He wasn’t that shy around women usually. But you had something that made him insecure. Not about himself but about how he should interact with you. He couldn’t figure this out. He had heard you giving tours for the visitors, speaking with a lot of passion about the exhibits, but when someone asked you a random question your eyes locked with the ground and you seemed uncomfortable. And he didn’t want to make you uncomfortable.
When Kylo came to a stop beside you at the curb, you looked up from your phone. He didn’t stand too close to you but not too far away that you wouldn’t recognise him standing there. What he had figured out yet: you pulling up the corners of your mouth was the most of a smile you offered someone. You did it out of politeness but still it draw Kylo even more into the mysterious you were for him.
When you worked the same shift, the new guy always waited with you behind the museum after it had closed. It wasn’t annoying, it would have been annoying if Blake would stand next to you because he never shut up, but the new guy was alright. He never talked to you, you didn’t talk to him, so waiting with him until Phasma would arrive was actually okay.
„W-why are you here?“
„Sorry?“ You looked up at him again. His hands clasped the hem of his sweater and he tried not to look into your eyes. He was strange. Always dressed in black, attitude of one of those guys that got drunk every weekend, and he talked to simply everyone but you. Why did he now? Why did he ruin the no-words-waiting-thing?
„Sorry.“ The stare of you made him feel guilty. But why should he feel guilty? For asking a question? For being kind and trying to talk to you? „What I meant was why are you at the museum? W-working in the museum. Why?“
His stuttering made him less intimidating than he usually was. He had this broad shoulders and that deep, soothing voice and that sharp face and that flawless hair, all the features you expected in a guy that played with girls. Damn, my prejudices. It wasn’t okay to have them and you were still working on getting rid off them. Most times it worked but sometimes it didn’t.
Now that he actually talked to you, stuttered to you, he didn’t seem that intimidating anymore. His chopped words made you nearly comfortable in his presence.
„I’m here for the dinosaurs.“
I was right. Kylo always noticed your increasing passion when your tour came to the dinosaur section. What about if the museum didn’t have replicas and skeletons of dinosaurs? Would you still be here? Probably not.
„And why are you here?“
„For the money. I need it.“ You nodded and looked away. When your eyes settled on your phone again, Kylo covered the face in his hands. How could he actually say that?
„Well, dinosaurs and money.“ You had seen his reflection on your screen and decided to show him that nothing was wrong with his statement. Everyone needed money. That’s how it works. Even in Hanna City.
Kylo didn’t know what to return and he couldn’t even return something. Your friend pulled up and you left with a shrug of your shoulders. And one corner of your mouth pulled up.
When you got in her car you didn’t mention that she was twenty minutes late. For Phasma time was a structure that was flexible. Meeting at five? Phasma comes around three hours later. So twenty minutes was like one red traffic light for normal people.
„You saw that guy?“ You settled yourself in the passenger seat, feet against the dashboard and fishing the aux cable from her phone. As much as you loved your best friend, you couldn’t stand her taste in music.
„That tall one waving an awkward goodbye?“
„He waved?“ You turned around even if you were too far away to still see him.
„Yeah.“
Connecting the cable with your phone, you chose a playlist. „That’s the guy who talks to everyone else besides me. But today he talked to me.“
She eyed you over the frame of her sunglasses. „He is kinda cute.“
„Phasma.“
„What? You know I appreciate beauty in all kind of ways.“ She did but that was not why she said it. You knew her too good.
„Let us appreciate beauty in milkshake form, okay?“
/////
Poe had an unhealthy addiction for ice cream. Kylo liked it but Poe was extreme. Yesterday Poe had told him he needed to borrow Kylo’s car. For a really important mission. Today Kylo found out, after his friend had picked him up at the museum, he only borrowed his car because then he would be able to drive to the best ice cream shop in town, and Kylo would be unable to do anything about it.
„Oh, wow, wait!“ Kylo grabbed Poe’s arm and held him back. „We can’t go in there!“ He dragged him away from the door, pulled him back to his car.
„Why? I want ice cream. You won’t stop me from getting my ice cream.“
Kylo looked back to the window. He could only see your back and a bit of your profile, but he saw your tall friend. „She is in there. We need to go!“
„She? Who?“
„She.“ Kylo starred at Poe, his eyebrows met technically his hairline.
„She?“ Poe turned around to get a look at you. „Where?“
„Not! What if she sees us.“
Poe crossed his arms and took a deep breath. Oh no, lecture time. „Kylo, my friend. You’re talking to me about this girl for two months, constantly. Three days a week because you saw her again in the museum, two days a week because she doesn’t work the other shifts with you and on the weekends you cry about yourself and your mouth that won’t work when you’re around her. We’re going in there, we’re getting some ice cream and you’ll flash a smile when she sees you. Alright?“ He walked off and held the door open for him.
Kylo concentrated hard not to look up. He wasn’t prepared to see you outside of the museum, or not behind it. He was scared he would melt right in front of you, seeing you with a friend of yours doing normal stuff and being you in an environment you probably felt comfortable in. Kylo wanted to know so bad how different you were or if there was no difference at all. Still he wanted to walk out of the shop again. He had waved like a freak and you didn’t even register it.
Poe had already ordered for the two of them, he always did that. Kylo didn’t have a favourite ice cream so he didn’t care what he would get.
„Come on.“ Poe pulled at his sweater and headed for a table behind you and your friend. Fuck, keep cool. Be cool. Don’t look up, they won’t notice you.
„You followed us?“ It wasn’t your voice but he looked up anyways. And right into the eyes of your friend. She looked like she would call the cops any second.
„Oh, no. No, I didn’t follow-“ You saw the new guy from the museum with another guy passing your table. He looked so confused and embarrassed under Phasma’s stare.
„Phasma,“ you called her out and then looked to him. „She is joking. She has a strange sense of humour.“
Your voice sounded indeed different. Nearly nonchalant and a little amused. Kylo couldn’t move his eyes from your face. In the museum he never had the chance to get all the details of it.
„We’re here for the ice cream, girls.“ Poe always pulled that charming smile that made all the girls adore him. But your eyes were still locked with his. Kylo needed to break the eye contact when Poe pulled him along. He took the seat where he would sit with the back to you so Kylo needed to sit on the chair where you could see his face. And his most certainly red cheeks.
„Which one is it?“
„The one with the glasses.“
Poe didn’t turn around to take a second look. Kylo would have hit him if he did. „She’s cute.“
„You think I didn’t see that?“ Kylo’s eyes drifted away from Poe. Directly into yours. He expected you to look away but you didn’t.
You sipped your milkshake, hearing Phasma talk, but you didn’t follow her words. What was his name? You never got it. He was just the new guy, even if he was working in the museum for about two months now. You had never looked long enough at him to notice all the small moles covering his face. They looked like constellations you would find at the firmament if you connected them with a marker. Cool, now you wanted to draw lines on his face.
„Y/N!“ Phasma snapped her fingers before your eyes and forced you to look at her. „You heard a single thing I said?“
„Yeah.“
„Good, now come on.“ You followed her out. The guy was watching you when you left. But you didn’t know what Phasma had said. Your thoughts had been a little distracted.
She didn’t drove in your apartments direction. When you arrived at the edge of town you knew where you were going. Some nights Phasma woke you up because she couldn’t sleep. You always went to that abandoned public swimming pool no one cared about. You didn’t get why that thing still existed, Hanna City was a fussy clean city, they usually got rid of places like that. Phasma liked to smash some windows. After a dozen visits there weren’t a lot of windows left. That night she destroyed the last ones.
/////
Your bright voice guided visitors through the museum again, it was still early in the day. Last time Kylo saw you was in the ice cream shop on Thursday. On Fridays you didn’t work and on the weekends the museum was closed. He had been thinking about you all the time. Mostly about your look over the shoulder when you had left with your friend, Phasma. Or about the dark circles under your eyes that shone through the layer of powder. Or about the small, bloody parts of your lips where you chewed on.
In his short break around four, he tried to build up some courage to talk to you again. The last two times didn’t went so well.
You stood in front of that huge Tyrannosaurus rex replica, the last group of visitors had left only a bit ago.
„Hi.“
You turned around when you heard his voice. „Hey.“
„You enjoy the silence?“ Only a few visitors had been around, no one that was loud.
„Actually I do, yes.“ Your arms were crossed but your voice was invite. He felt relieved about that.
„I like it, too. I didn’t know a museum could be such a peaceful place until I got here.“ You nodded, scrunched up your nose a little, out of agreement not refusal, and pulled up the corners of your mouth. God, she was so cute. „I’m sorry for Thursday. I didn’t follow you or anything.“
„I never thought you followed us. That’s literally the best shop around town, I understand why you went there.“
„Poe tricked me into going there. He is addicted to ice cream.“
„The milkshakes are great.“ You dropped the arms to your side and turned completely to him. „I never got your name.“ It was hard to look into his eyes but you didn’t want to look away.
„It’s Kylo.“
„Y/N.“
I know. Your name is beautiful. I want it tattooed on my skin. Someday. Kylo was being a creep again. He loved the sight of someone he knew so little about. That was ridiculous. „I should leave you be.“
You didn’t say something else so he went back to the register. The other two hours were horror. Kylo constantly checked the time but it didn’t move forward. Finally he had a little bit of courage and now he needed to wait. And in that two hours the possibility of losing the recent found courage was high. Very high.
But it didn’t leave him. When he made it to the end of the shift he still felt the courage inside of him. Or so he thought. Because you, waiting at the curb for your ride, made him forget everything and admire your hair, tugged behind your ear. And how it fluttered in the wind when a car drove by. But he needed to do this. He wanted to talk to you.
„Are you waiting for your friend again?“ Oh god, Kylo. Sure she is. What is wrong with you?
„Yeah,“ you looked up. He liked how small your eyes looked in that big glasses. „Usually she texts me around lunch time if she makes it or not, but she didn’t text.“ Your voice was different. He had never noticed anger in it until now.
„You’re alright?“
Turning your full body to him, Kylo did the same. „Honestly? No. She does that all the time. She forgets to charge her fucking phone because her charger is broken and she uses mine. I don’t mind when she uses my stuff, we live together. But she doesn’t care if her phone is charged or not, and then she can’t text back and she won’t make any other effort to tell me if she can take me home or not.“ There was no garbage laying around in Hanna City you could kick, so you kicked some air. „But I shouldn’t complain.“
It was rude for even thinking that but you, angry, were an awesome sight. Kylo didn’t know why but you seemed more alive, more energetic and that suited you. That, and swearing.
He wanted to offer you a ride but he realised he couldn’t. He always waited with you behind the museum until you got picked up. If he would tell you, his car was parked around the corner, what would you think? You would think he was a creep. Which he was. „I would offer you a ride but Poe has my car. Can I help you otherwise?“ Lying was bad, but that was an emergency lie.
„No, thank you.“ Your hands gripped tighter around the straps of your backpack. „Actually, yeah. If she should show up before your friend picks you up, would you tell her I took the bus?“
„Sure, will do.“
„Thanks, Kylo.“ The corners of your mouth pulled up again, a little higher than usual, Kylo thought. He returned it. There was no way not to.
He watched you walk off and waited five minutes after you had disappeared, but your friend didn’t show up. When he got to his car and climbed in, he knew he had to make a stop before he would head home.
/////
You never liked dress codes. You hated the concept in general. You got why they existed, still you didn’t like them. With the dress code for the museum it was different. You were part of the team for six years, starting off at the register, finding out what you wanted to do in college, and staying because you loved sharing information about the exhibits the visitors got to see.
Olivia, curator of Hanna City’s museum of natural history, loved having you around. You loved being around, that were two things that matched up perfectly. She had been responsible for the little, blue and violet triceratops under your name, stitched onto your shirt. And that was why you liked the museum’s dress code. You were happy with the little things in life because life didn’t offer happiness for bigger things. At least not often to you.
You always smiled when you grabbed the uniform from your locker and pulled it on. There was nothing cuter than this little embroidered dinosaur.
Slamming the locker door shut, something fell to the floor. You didn’t notice it when you had entered the breakroom. You kneeled down to pick up a little package wrapped in newspaper. Glued to the package was a little paper with your name on it. You ripped it off and found more words on the other side.
‚Maybe she charges her phone more often now, so you can contact her when she doesn’t show up. But I can give you a ride too, if you need one. Got my car back.‘
Unwrapping the package you found a phone charger. Wow. You wondered who had got you the present, even if you knew it could only be Kylo. Yesterday you had ranted to him about the Phasma-phone-problem, who else could leave a present at your locker that fitted those rant so much? No one. You were even more surprised that he got the right phone charger. Did he actually pay so much attention to remember your phone brand? Did he pay so much attention to you? He had got you a present, that indirectly wasn’t even for you, to solve the Phasma-phone-problem. Why did he? It was weird. It was also very kind.
Life was always like this. When you wanted to confront someone, and you actually had the guts to do it in that moment, karma came around and threw stones in your way. Uncommonly many visitors showed up at the register, a tourist group, that wanted to be given a tour through the museum.
Two hours later you tried it again, but then Kylo wasn’t at the register anymore. Where was he? You searched around the museum but couldn’t find him. You even asked Olivia in her office. She pointed out Kylo was taking smoking breaks form time to time. You tried your luck at the backdoor and there he was.
„Hey.“
Kylo was shocked, hearing your voice out of a sudden, he nearly dropped his cigarette. „Y/N. You smoke, too?“
You wished you still did. „Gave up on it.“
There was this unspoken rule to offer a former smoker a cigarette, just in case. Kylo held out his package.
„I shouldn’t.“ But you needed something that distracted you from confronting him. You weren’t good at things like this. You took one and he offered you fire, but you still carried your own lighter and declined his. That was a habit you didn’t get rid off because lighters were also good for a lot of other things.
The first drag instantly flooded your brain with nicotine. You hadn’t smoked in a year, it felt strange but so familiar. „I received your present.“
„I figured it could be useful. But if you don’t… I mean, if you-“ His stuttering came back around.
„It’s very kind. I appreciate it.“ You had never been that good with social interaction but with Kylo it was simply awkward. On both sides. „But why? I really appreciate it, but why?“
Kylo didn’t think about that part. He tried to come up with a fake reason while he finished his cigarette. Nothing came to his mind. „I always see you being so kind to everyone. I thought it would be only fair to return this kindness.“
„You see me?“
„Sure. You’re like the best to look at in there.“ Fuck, did he actually just say that?
„But there is an one-to-one replica of a Tyrannosaurus rex in the museum.“
Kylo may be clumsy around you, but you were totally blind for someones affection for you. „You are the most beautiful to look at no matter where you are. You understand?“
Your puzzled look lasted a few seconds until your eyes went wide. Red appeared on your cheeks and you couldn’t keep the eye contact. „Oh.“
„I’m sorry. I didn’t want to like… scare you or something.“
„No,“ you snapped, in a good way. „It’s just, I didn’t expect it.“
„So… it’s okay? You’re okay?“ His heart pumped heavy in his chest. After work he needed to find a hole he could bury himself in. This level of embarrassment was hard to cope with physically.
Just when he thought karma was a total bitch, the most fascinating thing happened. You smiled. More than only pulling up the corners of your mouth. Your lips stretched out, over your whole face and your eyes lit up, sparkling in the sun. It felt like a cloudy sky was breaking up, just for Kylo to stand in a ray of sunlight. You made him feel like a corny metaphor.
„I’m absolutely okay. You’re okay with giving me a ride after work?“
„Yes! Sure.“ His chest nearly exploded because of his high pulse. „Do you want to grab a milkshake on the way home?“ Now or never.
„Would that be like some sort of a… date?“
„No, absolutely not. Unless you want it to be.“ Again you smiled at him and that sight killed him.
„Yes, absolutely.“
Bang. He was dead and the most alive he ever was at the same time. He couldn’t wait for six o’clock. He couldn’t wait seeing your smile again. He couldn’t wait hearing you say his name. He couldn’t wait.
He did wait.
And he died and was reborn over and over again, every time you smiled at him with all you got. That was the most beautiful sight he ever saw. He could walk into a hundreds of museums of any kind, and he wouldn’t find a better piece of art to look at than you.

SarcasticReview: Rules Newlyweds aka you THOUGHT I was done writing AntiRoE posts.
Warning, this post gets LOOOOOOONNNNNNG.
So, Rules of Engagement book 4 aka Rules: It’s-been-one-year-since-we’ve-been-married-weds.
I mean... Newlyweds. Rules: Newlyweds. Yes, that’s it. Even though they’re not newlywed anymore, but... I guess to us, they are, even though it has been a year. Yearlyweds.
Anyway.
The epilogue no one really wanted... well, most of the tumblr fandom didn’t really want. For a short time, actually, it kinda felt like it was going to be a full book. Persoanlly, I didn't think RoE needed an epilogue. The chapter before the RoE B3 finale felt like a great ending point. Remember? All the siblings released nana’s ashes out to sea like she wanted, but then they had to stretch the book’s ending out with the brother’s proposal to Elena. Really, that should’ve been before the wedding. It killed the pacing. But I’m getting sidetracked. I didn’t think RoE needed an epilogue book. TC&TF didn’t get one. It’s epilogue was stuffed at the end of the final chapter of B3 and it was still really good. Why is RoE so special? I mean, yeah, TFM got an epilogue book, but that’s an ongoing series and it felt more like a summer special than an epilogue anyways.
Regardless, I have to say, Newlyweds did a good job as epilogue for the most part. Though it wasn’t exactly how I would have liked it to go, personally, they tied up the twin’s and the cousin’s storylines pretty well. For the twins, my complaint are more opinion based. I would’ve preferred party!twin go into cooking rather than... being a tour guide for her sister’s virtual vacation company. I kinda wanted her to work with Mira and Blake, maybe be in charge of the front area+the waiters/waitresses.
Aria (Big-Sis!MC), however, I don’t fully understand what her storyline was even suppose to be in this book. Apparently, going by the summary, she tasked herself with bringing her family back together ever since they grew apart or something in the year since B3. The thing is, it doesn’t even seem that way. It just feels like they’re all busy with their lives and/or jobs. You know, jobs, Aria? The thing you haven’t had since the beginning of RoE. I mean, understandable then, you were on summer vacation... idk if it was a vacation from work or... a vacation from... not working? Do we know what she did? There was something about wanting to go back to work in the early chapters of B4. I mean, I guess it’s fine since she’s a millionaire or something now. Anyways, getting back to my point. Other than trying to bring the family back together even though there’s no need, Aria serves to add more pointless drama. Case in point, she invites Aunt Mallory to her family get together with no reasons as to why she’d do such a thing until the finale. At that point, the players choose why she did it. Either we embrace our aunt like we’re happy to see her or tell her we have our eyes on her/we only invited her for free gifts. That... bothers me. First off, no. Players wouldn’t have invited her in the first place. They ain’t that dumb. Don’t put Aria/the book’s dumb ass decisions on us. Second, Aunt Mallory doesn’t even do anything. She’s pretty insignificant to B4, but hey...
It wouldn’t be RoE if we didn’t have nonsense drama that doesn’t lead to anything.
Speaking Aunt Mallory, she gets a redemption arc this book just like we all thought she would and it’s as half assed as we thought. She’s trying really hard guys. You know, after she found our their grandmother left her something in her will. A lake house. She finally decides to NOT be a total ass, putting children and her own family in danger, when she gets something out of the will she always thought she should’ve since the book began.
Moving on.
Violet (Mean!cousin), like the twins, doesn’t have much of a story either, but that’s because instead, like the twins, her overall story since the first book is wrapped up. Like it should be in any epilogue. She’s really embraced mom-hood and it was quite enjoyable to see. I still can’t believe she named her child after nana with all the bullshit she pulled. If it were me, I would’ve said the name would die with me. I mean, I AM in that position, technically. No kid, though, but... I’m getting sidetracked. I guess that just goes to show how far she’s come. Chaz is... still Chaz. Kinda annoyed. I mean, I like him and all. He’s sweet, but his bird thing got real old real fast. Now, Violet’s relationship with her mother this book is also interesting and how it circles back to nana. Violet realizes her relationship with Nana was rocky at best and didn’t want that for Amelia with Aunt Mallory... so she’s trying to mend things with her mother which I found AMAZING. Looking back to B1, I never would’ve thought Violet would become my favorite character from ALL of the Choices book, but here we are. She’s the mean girl done write (like Olivia). Take notes, Becca writers.
Now we move on to Elena and Luke (Big-Bro!MC). I had HOPED they would address how quickly their relationship has progressed, how short a time they were actually dating before Luke proposed. Also, I had HOPED they’d address the fact that Luke didn’t even come up with the idea of proposing. Nana forced him to. B1-3 lasted... let’s say 3 months. A month, let’s say, was spent with them pretending to be dating before developing true feelings for one another and they really started dating. At the max, they were dating for 2 months before Luke proposed.... forced to propose. Remember this. Put a pin in it. I’m making this point for a reason. Now, Luke’s big story this book isn’t NOT addressing the things I mentioned above, but rather Luke’s already been married despite the team SAYING they had been planning RoE out for months and canon material said no one other than Aria had gotten remotely close to being married.
I got this screencap from tumblr. Sorry, I do not recall from who. My apologies.
Elean is pissed that Luke never told her about this ex-wife. Understandable, but... come on. Some members of the fandom theorized it might’ve been a drunken or young love mistake, but that’s the thing: this is never talked about again until the finale. You can’t even say he kept it a secret because Aria literally has a picture from... idk, a family album. Even her husband knows about her.
It wouldn’t be RoE if we didn’t have nonsense drama that doesn’t lead to anything.
From Chapter 2 onwards, Elena is always seen pissy face at Luke who is just awkwardly pretending everything is fine and trying to make it right like a silly sitcom gag. The moment after the cliffhanger chapter is skipped in favor of a Historia (party!twin)-centered chapter (thank GOD tho) so we don’t even get to see what Elena’s immediate reactions or thoughts are. She’s just mad now. In fact, she’s mad for the rest of the book until the chapter before the finale where Elena and Luke seem okay having worked things out, quickly running up to use Aria’s bedroom in a very questionable scene. It’s okay, they were just hiding a puppy... in her bedroom... a young, very noisy and probably troublemaking puppy... alone... in her BEDROOM. I mean, sure, the pet they get is player determinant, but still. So here comes the finale. Flashback to BEFORE that scene. Elena and Luke finally talk in the pet store. Luke tells Elena about his ex-wife that we’ve ALL been dying to hear (if you don’t read that as sarcastic, I petty you) and get the lamest, shortest conclusion to this plot point. It’s not even a story, the ex-wife doesn’t even get a name. The entirety of the story is this: “To be honest, it was so long ago I don’t even think much about her. We eloped and there wasn’t even a real ceremony. We got divorce pretty soon after that. I don’t even count her as an ex-wife.” First off, that’s a sneaky way around the previous point I had made about going against canon facts, but whatever. You do you. Second, this is it!?! You made a big deal, stretched out Elena being made for, idk, 3 or 4 out of 5 chapters for this! Thirdly and most importantly, getting back to the point I told you to put a pin in, Luke ELOPED, maybe in Vegas or something, then got divorced soon after. Don’t you think think this might make Elena think twice about this whole getting married so quickly? Shouldn’t Nana and Luke have back when this was his task? Obviously, the RoE team didn’t think this through and that just... bothers me. I love the characters in this book, I see the AMAZING potential it has and the lessons it COULD be telling about love and marriage and stuff, but it just... doesn’t and instead tells these dramatic and unnecessary stories. Sure, people defend this by saying RoE is like a soap opera drama or whatever, it’s SUPPOSE to have dumb drama, but... idk... excuse me for wanting RoE to be BETTER than your typical soap opera drama.
Now, the ending to RoE’s ending. It ends how it began... kinda. It started on a cruise, but ended on a sail boat. They’re both boats and they have their family together, whatever. It was a weird scene because, right before getting on the boat, there was a strange filter. Like a bad Instagram post. Anyways, I like how it ended similar to how it started. That’s what I liked about TC&TF’s ending. but... unlike RoE players get to choose whether or not Kenna starts a family with their chosen LI or have more adventures while RoE, a book about marriage and love and family, doesn’t give you that choices. Kenna is a main character, MC is a my character. You’d think PB would give the RoE the option of kids since they’re player customizable while Kenna is their own character. And that’s how it ends. Aria says she’s having twins and then cue credits. Come on.
Anyways, conclusion time. B4 wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been, but hey...
It wouldn’t be RoE if we didn’t have nonsense drama that doesn’t lead to anything.
B4 was pretty good wrapping up some of the character’s stories for the most part so.... yay! It’s over.

General Sketch Dump
First off: Patreon hasn't been working for me as of late. I really can't do much, cuz even logging into Patreon off of postybirb I still can't post stuff. Ugh. Also, DA's been having trouble posting, so here's to hoping that it posts there. My horrendous Mcnuggets photo did because OF COURSE IT WOULD: https://www.deviantart.com/musical-medic/art/Meep-Meep-805231092 Soooo, here's the sketch dump I've been talking about lol I wanted to add more to it but I just have had the worst time trying to think of anything else to add lol I've also been working on some adopts I need to get to people too so maybe that's getting to me as well I numbered them cuz it'd be easy to explain/write about them So, I guess I'll get into it: 1. I doodled Ami, one of my RWBY ocs! I wanted to doodle her with short hair to see how she'd look in it, inspired by the recent debut of the RWBY vol 7 Poster. Every time they change their designs around I wanna change my ocs's designs around too LMFAO To me, of team AURA (Arrosa, Umbra, River, and Ami) Ami was the most likely to have short(er) hair in my head, so I doodled it. I'm half and half on it? I like it better than her current hair but that's also because I drew her ref back in 2016 and looks bad lol. https://www.deviantart.com/musical-medic/art/Amitolah-602174140 2. OOF This is a quite a bit into the future of AURA+ (the metaphorical comic/ask blog with my RWBY ocs) so its spoilers and I'm trying as hard as I can not to spoil anymore than I already have so I gotta be quiet, lol. Kieran bbyyyyy whAT HAPPENED I mean I KNOW BUT BBY https://www.deviantart.com/musical-medic/art/Kieran-637420325 3. Speaking of RWBY and the Volume 7 poster, Blake has short hair! I LOVE it! I wanted to doodle it but had a hard time, but made myself finish it cuz I didn't feel like trying to think of something else to draw lol. So, I don't like it but I don't necessarily hate it either. 4. My little sister and I were having fun with that ol pokefusion webpage and I saved this horrible monstrocity. It's a fusion of a Slowbro and a Nidoran Male and I just HAD to draw it lol I have more saved, but IDK if I wanna draw them (Fun fact, this is how I ended up making/figuring out my Pokesona, which is a Ninetales and Cubone/Marowak fusion.) https://pokemon.alexonsager.net/80/32 5 and 6 are related to each other, lol. 5 has a young Amaya with her dad, Vasco. I recently adopted Vasco from imartist22:devimartist22:! After some thought I've decided he is a vampire bat pony and is kinda big. like Big mac-ish big. He tries to get bigger animals (andofcourseafewwillingorkinkyparticipants) that won't just straight up die after he gets enough blood to eat. I'm stuck between having him be with a loving partner and having him be a bit of a prick that got a mare pregnant and just had Amaya randomly dropped off at his doorstep one day LMFAO. Loving family or fuckboi turned into good dad... HMM. In this image I imagine that Vasco liked to sit under trees a lot to relax, and he brought Amaya with him to do so around the time she was dropped off at his place. he happened to be sitting under an apple tree when one of the apples fell, startling poor little Amaya but kicking her insticts into gear. This apple must pay for it's delicious looking crimes and Vasco is 100 percent amused and isn't gonna stop her. Amaya's a Fruit bat pony (thanks to her mom's genes), and her heckin huge canines make it hard for her to feed on anything besides mushy/old fruit usually, but of course, it didn't stop little Amaya from trying. 6 is an illustration that takes place mere moments after 5. she pounced the apple, trying to suck the sweet juices out of it. Vasco has to take it away from her and juice/mush it lol You can see Vasco here: https://toyhou.se/2561820.vasco AND you can see more pics of Amaya here, as she's a rather old oc I've had for a while now: https://toyhou.se/628481.amaya OLD ART WARNING OOF https://www.deviantart.com/musical-medic/art/Ze-Bat-Poneh-525079939 https://www.deviantart.com/musical-medic/art/Amaya-bat-pone-535836955 https://www.deviantart.com/musical-medic/art/Getting-Used-To-Things-597913100 https://www.deviantart.com/musical-medic/art/Static-623480499 That's all I really have for now I think, so yeah lol. theraiderradiostation’s OC Profile
+ Basic Statistics
Name: Blake Reyes (née Nguyen)
Age: 236 (chronologically), 26 (biologically)
Nationality: Asian-American
Hometown: She was a military brat, so she never really had one
Current Residence: The Nuka World Red Rocket. She’s built up a rather large town there for herself, her companions, her slaves, and many raider guards. She also has many “backups” across the Commonwealth, like Elianora’s Thirty-Yard Bunker and various other player home mods.
Occupation: Pre-War: K9 police officer. Post-war: Raider Overboss, mercenary
Talents/Skills: Lockpicking, hacking, fighting (particularly bladed melee), and leadership/management skills. Key perks include Big Leagues, Armorer, Blacksmith, Rooted, Locksmith, Inspirational, and Hacker.
Siblings (describe relationship): N/A. Blake is an only child.
Spouse (describe relationship): Nathan “Nate” Reyes. Blake and Nate fell in love very quickly, getting married far too soon. Blake fell out of love with Nate by the time that Shaun was born, though she still cared for him. She kept her feelings to herself and stayed with him for his and Shaun’s sakes, despite unconsciously resenting it. after witnessing Nate’s death, she mourns not as a widow would, but more as someone who lost a friend.
Children (describe relationship): Shaun Reyes. Not much to say here.
Significant Others (describe relationship): Blake is in a polyamorous relationship with both Cait and Gage.
Relationship skills: Her best friends are MacCready, Danse, Strong, Ada, and Old Longfellow.
+ Physical Characteristics:
Height: 5′2 (157.5 cm)
Weight: 120 lbs (54.4 kg)
Race: Asian
Eye Color: Light brown
Hair Color: Jet black
Glasses? No
Skin color: Sun-kissed, lightly tanned
Shape of Face: Heart shaped? (idk, someone who knows something about this shit tell me based on the picture provided.)
Distinguishing features: Large scar on the left side of her lip, black war paint around her eyes, many tattoos on her torso, neck, and arms (as soon as I can get the proper mods working, that is).
How does she dress? Her style is a mix of biker and raider. She often wears black road leathers with a full set of sturdy/heavy, shadowed metal armor, or the various raider outfits in Elianora’s mod Armour Compendium. For everyday-wear in which she doesn’t need to be armored up, she’ll typically wear a black leather jacket and jeans.
Mannerisms: She’s sarcastic as hell, making jokes at just about everything and never really taking a situation seriously. She also has a habit of twirling or playing with knives when she gets nervous or bored.
Habits: She smokes, drinks, and takes quite a lot of chems, particularly Jet.
Health: She’s in surprisingly good health for someone who smokes, drinks, and huffs Jet as much as she does. That probably won’t last long, though, so Cait and Gage have been trying to get her to quit, or at least ease up.
Hobbies: Weapon and armor modification, adventuring, building raider outposts, fighting at the Arena, playing cards, training/sparring
Favorite Sayings: When asking a companion to head out into the Commonwealth, she’ll typically ask if they’re “ready to fuck some shit up.” Also anything having to do with the word “bitch.”
Speech patterns: She’s just about as foul-mouthed as Gage, with a strong fondness for saying “bitch.”
Disabilities: None.
Style (Elegant, shabby etc.): Biker/raider. Lots of flannel, lots of black leather, lots of black in general.
Greatest flaw: Her disdainful, sarcastic attitude towards nearly everyone
Best quality: Her loyalty. It is difficult to earn her trust or respect, but once you do, she will always stick by you.
+ Intellectual/Mental/Personality Attributes and Attitudes
Educational Background: She had a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Massachusetts Bay University, which Nate jokingly called her law degree, not that it matters much anymore.
Intelligence Level: Above-average. On the SPECIAL, her intelligence is a 7.
Any Mental Illnesses? PTSD and claustrophobia as a result of the Great War and events of Vault 111. However, Blake believes herself to be perfectly mentally sound.
Learning Experiences: Her first few days in the Commonwealth were quite the learning experience.
Character’s short-term goals in life: Finding Shaun and getting her revenge by destroying the entirety of the Institute. Beyond that, she’s really just going along with Gage’s plans and goals.
Character’s long-term goals in life: She doesn’t really have any. She’ll figure those out once the Institute is destroyed.
How does Character see himself/herself? Blake knows she isn’t a good person, but she quite frankly doesn’t give a shit. She’ll do right by herself, her trusted few friends, and her gangs, but that’s it. And despite being Overboss and leader of a bunch of raiders, she still considers herself to be a loner.
How does Character believe he/she is perceived by others? Blake believes herself to be respected by her companions and the raiders under her command. She’d much rather the other raiders see her as a leader and one of their own than a boss shouting down orders without doing shit to back it up, and she hopes she comes off that way.
How self-confident is the character? On a scale of 1-10, she’s about an 8.
Does the character seem ruled by emotion or logic or some combination thereof? Blake is largely ruled by emotion. If it came down to percentages, I’d say she’s ruled 70% by emotion, 30% by logic.
What would most embarrass this character? Public defeat. She will avoid doing anything she knows she will lose, and if she ever wants to try her hand at a new skill, she will spend hours practicing in private before she unveils it.
+ Emotional Characteristics
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Introvert or Extrovert? Introvert
How does the character deal with anger? She lets everyone know how pissed off she is, mostly in the form of irritated bitching. In extreme cases, she’ll react with violence, picking fights she knows she can win just so she can stomp the life out of something.
With sadness? Blake bottles that shit up, viewing it as a weakness more than anything, especially out in the Commonwealth. She tries to outright ignore it until it passes, but she’ll reach for the whiskey more often. She only breaks down crying when she’s alone and her emotions have reached a severe tipping point.
With conflict? Blake will not back down from a fight, for better or worse. If she perceives that someone is trying to start shit with her, she will pick up a blade. They either cut the shit or wind up dead. If she has to deal with someone else’s conflict, like two raiders starting shit with each other, her advice will often be to cut the shit and/or fight it out in the Cola Cars Arena.
With change? She’s incredibly resistant to change, often responding with anger and frustration.
With loss? Much the same way she deals with sadness.
What does the character want out of life? At this point, she doesn’t really know. She wants the Institute destroyed, but after that? Who knows?
What would the character like to change in his/her life? Blake often wishes to return to pre-war life. Thinking of the past makes her homesick, and she wishes she could go back.
What motivates this character? Revenge, bloodlust, and greed
What frightens this character? As a result of the events of the Vault, Blake has gained severe claustrophobia and a fear of all things cryogenics.
What makes this character happy? Killing
Is the character judgmental of others? Absolutely. There is a right way and a wrong way to doing shit, and if someone is doing shit wrong, she will judge the hell out of them. She doesn’t like people much at all.
Is the character generous or stingy? Stingy. There ain’t no point in being generous, as it just puts you in a worse off situation. She won’t ever do anyone a favor unless they’re a trusted friend or they give her a pocketful of caps for her trouble. One must be selfish in this new world in order to survive, as helping others can lead to them taking advantage of you and putting a knife in your back.
Is the character generally polite or rude? Rude. She’ll react to any situation with a joking and sarcastic attitude, regardless of who she is speaking to. She will not treat anyone with respect until she believes they have earned it.
+ Spiritual Characteristics
Does the character believe in God? No
What are the character’s spiritual beliefs? She doesn’t really have any particular belief system. She believes that something happens to your soul when you die, but doesn’t know what, nor does she want to think about it.
Is religion or spirituality a part of this character’s life? No

fandoms; the 100, penny dreadful, star wars, star trek, & harry potter
POSITIVE ‘SEND ME A FANDOM AND I’LL TELL YOU’:note: please use this meme to be positive about all your favourite fandom things !!
THE 100
what character caught your eye when you first watched: john murphy
your first favourite character: john murphy
what is your favourite character now: bellamy blake
describe why you love your favourite character: bellamy is... unique. his character he’s incredibly complex and his history even more so. having to raise his baby sister and then taking up a leadership position not because he wanted it but in order to survive, and then being burdened by the responsibility of it. and having to grow so much, he’s a character we see grown from someone who cares not exclusively but so much more about his baby sister and himself than anyone else in early season one to the man he is today and it’s wonderful, bellamy easily has some of the best writing on the show, some of the best development on the show, and he’s a relatable and loving character to have as a favorite. i don’t see how anyone could not love bellamy blake.
what is some development that you wish they had implemented on the show ( keep it positive ): honestly anything where they explain why azgeda stopped using blood in their warpaint would be great. jk jk no but i actually do wish they’d dove a little deeper with the mountain men, and with azgeda as villains in s2 and s3 respectfully. nia and ontari especially were characters that had so much potential built into them but it was cut down prematurely, ontari especially being a nightblood that was taken from her parents, she was raised by a queen but as a soldier for her a servant for azgeda in many regards, she believes so deeply in the flame and that she was meant for it. the end result excusing the means in which it takes to get there etc. idk man just maybe not having killed them off would have been such a better way to go ?
a ship that never got together but shipped: season one bellamy &. clarke, i don’t so much ship them anymore but i really liked bellarke in season one.
a ship that did get together and wanted it to be endgame: wick &. raven, it really made me sad that they wrote the character off when they fired the actor, i was really hoping he’d get recast, because wick was very good for raven she doesn’t need him and thats 100% true, but he was very supportive of her and he was good for her, and i think that it would have been nice to see them develop further.
what is your favourite season: season one.
what is your favourite episode: murphy’s law.
talk about an episode that was significant for a favourite character: day trip is incredibly important to bellamy blake as a character. i think murphy’s law however is such an important episode for EVERYONE in season one, we get to see for the first time real consequences for the actions that the delinquents do to each other on the ground, the mob mentality that can so easily form in these situations. and the dangers of not having an effective rule in even such a small group of people. i really want season four or five to have a parallel to murphy’s law at some point because it is such a good episode that highlights so much of the raw simplicity of having to survive on the ground.
what is one of your favourite headcanons about one of the characters, it can be canon or fanon: * points at literally all my azgeda headcanons *
if your favourite character could crossover into another fandom, what would that fandom be: bellamy and octavia as the winchesters would be cool, put clarke griffin and eric jackson in grey’s anatomy please and thanks, john murphy in law & order: special victims unit as a victim. azgeda in game of thrones, the ark as part of the expanse. grounders &. mad max
if any character could date someone from another fandom, who would your otp be: ontari and ivar might like destroy the entire world but that’d be hella fun to see come to light ( would be highkey the most unhealthy bullshit ever please never let this happen ). and i already said this for spn but sam &. clarke.
STAR WARS
what character caught your eye when you first watched: han solo
your first favourite character: luke skywalker
what is your favourite character now: luke skywalker &. cassian andor
describe why you love your favourite character: how can you not love luke skywalker. i think i liked him because he symbolized all that is good, but wa still capable of making mistakes and he didn’t let that stop him from being as amazing as he knew he could be. he was himself, that was all that mattered, and i think that counts for a lot.
what is some development that you wish they had implemented on the show ( keep it positive ): i think we deff needed some more anikin x obi wan information ike they kept hinting they were brotps af and never showed us shit in the prequel trilogy and i was like ??? um dudes.
a ship that never got together but shipped: im hoping for jedistormtrooper because i really fucking liked it but i’m here for stormpilot too.
a ship that did get together and wanted it to be endgame: han &. leia
what is your favourite season: the original trilogy
what is your favourite episode: new hope or rogue one
talk about an episode that was significant for a favourite character: rogue one is the single most significant episode ever and i don’t need to explain why.
what is one of your favourite headcanons about one of the characters, it can be canon or fanon: luke having to get over the trauma of having kissed his sister and not being able to look her in the eyes afterwards for like a good year and a half when he finally realizes what happened.
if your favourite character could crossover into another fandom, what would that fandom be: please put cassian andor in the star trek movie verse.
if any character could date someone from another fandom, who would your otp be: luke skywalker x luna
STAR TREK
what character caught your eye when you first watched: spock
your first favourite character: james t. kirk
what is your favourite character now: james t. kirk

what is your favourite episode: the first film of the new cast
talk about an episode that was significant for a favourite character: BEYOND was great for spok and krik tbh.
what is one of your favourite headcanons about one of the characters, it can be canon or fanon: james likes to listen to classical music and only classical rock music ( * remember tho that like classical music for them is like 20th century music )
if your favourite character could crossover into another fandom, what would that fandom be: JAMES T. KIRK IN ALIEN PLS
if any character could date someone from another fandom, who would your otp be: spock x lexa
HARRY POTTER
what character caught your eye when you first watched: harry potter
your first favourite character: hermione granger
what is your favourite character now: draco malfoy
describe why you love your favourite character: um can i not ? these are getting long.
what is some development that you wish they had implemented on the show ( keep it positive ): less slytherin as evil peoples please and thnx
a ship that never got together but shipped: draco x hermione, hermione x harry
a ship that did get together and wanted it to be endgame: hermione x ron
what is your favourite season: the goblet of fire
what is your favourite episode: the chamber of secrets
talk about an episode that was significant for a favourite character: no.
what is one of your favourite headcanons about one of the characters, it can be canon or fanon: no.

Do all of the bands C;
Alabama Shakes: Favorite female lead?
Taylor Momsen & Stevie Nicks
Arctic Monkeys: Favorite male lead?
Dave Grohl, Morrissey, Eddie Vedder
Ben Howard: An album that reminds you of your favorite season?
I have no favourite season, so I’m just gonna pick an album for each season (; If I Was - The Staves for Spring; Ultraviolence - Lana Del Rey for Summer; The Colour In Anything - James Blake for Autumn; Blood Bank EP - Bon Iver for Winter
Bon Iver: An album you could listen to on repeat for years?
Hadestown - Anaïs Mitchell, don’t think I’ll ever get tired of that one
Bastille: A song that brings back bad memories?
Violence (Enough Is Enough) - A Day To Remember
The Beatles: An artist you think is overrated?
Maroon 5, songs like This Love, Wake Up Call and If I Never See Your Face Again were great, I even love Payphone, but everything after that was kinda shit. Don’t Wanna Know is just a horrible, repetitive, unoriginal track that no one really asked for. same goes for most of their recent work
Coldplay: A band you used to love but never listen to anymore?
all those bands I listened to when I was 15, Paramore, Pierce the Veil, A Day To Remember etc. I still love them though, I just never get around to listening to them ):
Daft Punk: Favorite instrumental (no vocals) song?
7/8 - The Kyteman Orchestra, The Call Of Ktulu - Metallica
Dawes: A genre of music you absolutely cannot stand?
any kind of EDM lmao
Electric Light Orchestra: Favorite song to help you cheer up?
Baby - Royal Republic, Bewuste Sabotage - De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig, WHAT IS LOVE - HADDAWAY, Blues Is Dead - De Staat
Elliot Smith: Favorite song to listen to when you're sad?
England - The National (tbh any The National song)
Evanesence: Ever done drugs and listened to music?
never really done drugs I’m a good kid
Fun.: Put your music on shuffle and list the first three.
Songs For Women - Frank Ocean, Molly’s Lips - Nirvana, Burying Davy - The Decemberists
Fall Out Boy: First album you fell in love with?
oh man I guess that’d be an album called Frustraasjebloes by a Frisian troubadour
Green Day: A song that makes you feel rebellious?
Why’d You Bring A Shotgun To The Party - The Pretty Reckless
George Ezra: A song that reminds you of a past lover?
okay I haven’t got any past lovers, but Man In The Box - Alice In Chains reminds me of a past crush
Genesis: A band that your parents always played when you were little?
Eagles, Queen, Pink Floyd, all that good stuff
Hozier: Favorite brand new artist?
The Lemon Twigs released a bombass debut album last year!!

Daylight Again - Crosby, Stills & Nash
Jack Johnson: A song you heard in a movie and fell in love with?
I recently watched Hell Or High Water (fucking incredible movie by the way) and fell in love with Outlaw State Of Mind by Chris Stapleton. also, Apple Blossom by The White Stripes was featured in The Hateful Eight, in love with both
Joy Division: Your least favorite album by your favorite band?
(my absolute favourite bands don’t have any weak albums so I’m just gonna pick a favourite band) Death Of A Bachelor - Panic! At The Disco. this album contained several great tracks, but as a whole... it lacked some genuine heart and emotion. it wasn’t as heartfelt and creative as their previous albums
The Killers: Name your top three songs of all time.
Cold Blooded - The Pretty Reckless, Carry On Wayward Son - Kansas, Dear God - XTC
Linkin Park: Suggest a band you think I might like.
you should check out John Coffey and Graveyard! both excellent bands, lots of raw energy and power. John Coffey is hardcore punk, explosive, just fucking awesome. Graveyard is more like a throwback to 70′s stoner rock mixed with hardrock, but sludgier and dirtier
Led Zeppelin: Favorite album art?
Hadestown - Anaïs Mitchell, Bon Iver, Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Reflektor - Arcade Fire, To Pimp A Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar, You’re Dead! - Flying Lotus, The Blackest Beautiful - letlive., In The Aeroplane Over The Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel, Pretty Odd. - Panic! At The Disco, Schmilco - Wilco, Fear Fun - Father John Misty
Muse: Craziest music video you've ever seen?
that one song by Glass Animals, was it Gooey? anyway, it was super weird and gross and it nearly made me throw up
Mumford & Sons: Favorite cover version of a song you love?
I reaaallly love Father John Misty’s cover of Heart-Shaped Box by Nirvana, both versions are magnificent
The National: A song you sing in the shower?
Easy Livin’ - Uriah Heep
Nathaniel Rateliff: A song that never fails to make you emotional?
My Little Ruin - Glen Hansard, She Used To Be Mine - Sara Bareilles, Heavenly Father - Bon Iver (acapella)
One Direction: Backstreet Boys or NSYNC?
BACKSTREET BOYS
Pink Floyd: You can go back in time to see any band you want. Who would it be?

Queen: You can meet any band member, living or dead, and hang out with them for 24 hours. Who would it be?
Justin Vernon, Dave Grohl, Stevie Nicks or David Bowie
Radiohead: Favorite concert you've ever been to (or a band you want to see live).
ohhh hard one, as there are so many concerts that were pure magic. tie between Fleetwood Mac, Iron Maiden and any John Coffey show I’ve been to
Rihanna: A musician you respect, even if you might not like their music?
Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj, both have like 2 or 3 songs that I like, both are admirable women
Roo Panes: Favorite acoustic version of a song?
Oh, Oh, Calamity - John Coffey (unplugged) and For Emma - Bon Iver (blogothèque)
Simon & Garfunkel: Favorite album movie? (Ex. Yellow Submarine, The Wall, Help!, The Graduate)
Purple Rain - Prince + The Revolution, The Graduate - Simon & Garfunkel
Skrillex: What's the strangest song you have on your Ipod right now?
Father John Misty’s cover of Ryan Adams’ cover of Taylor Swift’s Blank Space in the style of The Velvet Underground
Tame Impala: A band none of your friends listen to?
i guess The Decemberists? they should though, their music is basically cute folk songs about bloody murder and words you’ve never heard of
Taylor Swift: Name that one artist that literally makes you so angry you're willing to throw the damn radio right out the window to make it stop.
BIRDY
U2: A song or album that somehow got onto your Ipod but you have no idea where it came from??? Weird.
Seasick, Yet Still Docked - Morrissey. for some reason this song was on my ipod, without any mention of an artist. idk man the song was just there. I don’t recall ever downloading it
The Vaccines: What are your favorite lyrics? Quote them for me. Do they mean something special to you?
there are way too many lyrics I love with all my heart, but one of my favourites is on Kim’s Caravan by Courtney Barnett:
“We either think that we're invincible or that we are invisibleWhen realistically we're somewhere in betweenWe all think that we're nobody but everybody is somebody else's somebody”
Vampire Weekend: A band or artist you follow on Twitter?
not really on twitter anymore, but I used to be an Avril Lavigne fan account lmao
Vance Joy: An artist where you can never tell what the hell they're singing?
Pearl Jam
Weezer: Favorite oldschool band?
define “oldschool”??? like Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, or more like Nirvana??? those are my favourites though
The xx: A genre/band you've been getting into that you never thought you would enjoy?
I never thought I’d get into any kind of hiphop, but I’ve come to love and admire all their clever ways of creating music. it’s mind-blowing
thank you so so much for asking!!!! this took me so long though hahah
