Granted I am prone to very strict budgeting, but somehow I managed to squeeze all my bills that needed to come out of this paycheck plus the NIJISANJI purchase I'd been wanting to make (they have sold out of the Mysta acrylic stand for the Luxiem 1st anniversary but I found another I really liked that was low stock and damnit I'm going to have a Mysta acrylic stand if it means ransacking the fucking warehouse) and still have some extra money
From a paycheck that is way less than what I'm used to making.
So... Like... Good on me.

What exactly Bitcoin, How Will it be Different Than "Real" Capital and How Can I Get some good?
Tumblr media
Last ned den nye Fortnite
Bitcoin is a online currency. It doesn't really exist in the kind of actual form that the foreign money & coin we live used to exist around. It doesn't even be found in a form like physical as Monopoly money. It's electrons - not substances.
Last ned den nye Fortnite
But consider what quantity of money you personally cope with. You get a income that you take to the - or it is actually autodeposited without most people even seeing your paper that it's possibly not printed on. Afterwards you use a debit credit card (or a checkbook, if you're old school) to access those money. At best, the simple truth is 10% of it in a very cash form within your pocket or as part of your pocketbook. So , as it happens that 90% with the funds that you command are virtual -- electrons in a spreadsheet or database.
Nonetheless wait - all those are U. Ersus. funds (or these of whatever region you hail from), safe in the lender and guaranteed from the full faith for the FDIC up to on the subject of $250K per akun, right? Well, not really exactly. Your bank may only forced to keep 10% associated with its deposits with deposit. In some cases, it is really less. It lends the rest of your profit out to people for up to 30 yrs. It charges all of them for the loan, and additionally charges you for ones privilege of allowing them to lend it out there.
How does money acquire created?
Your loan provider gets to create funds by lending this out.
Say anyone deposit $1, 000 with your bank. Then they lend out $900 of it. Suddenly you may have $1000 and other people has $900. Amazingly, there's $1900 boating where before there seems to be only a grand.
At this moment say your loan company instead lends nine hundred of your dollars to another one bank. That traditional bank in turn lends $810 to another bank, which in turn lends $720 to the customer. Poof! $3, 430 in an instant : almost $2500 established out of nothing -- as long as the bank is a follower of your government's key bank rules.
Designing of Bitcoin will be as different from bank funds' creation as capital is from electrons. It is not controlled with a government's central lender, but rather by opinion of its owners and nodes. It isn't created by a limited mint in a building, but instead by distributed offered source software in addition to computing. And it takes a form of actual give benefit to creation. More at that shortly.
Whom invented BitCoin?
The primary BitCoins were inside of a block of 50 (the "Genesis Block") created by Satoshi Nakomoto in January the year just gone. It didn't have any value at the start. It was just a cryptographer's plaything based on some paper published 8 weeks earlier by Nakomoto. Nakotmoto is an it seems fictional name : no one seems to find out who he or she and also they is/are.
Exactly who keeps track of it all?
As the Genesis Block came to be, BitCoins have ever since been generated by way of doing the work of checking all transactions for BitCoins as a form of public ledger. A nodes / pc systems doing the computations on the ledger can be rewarded for to do so. For each set of prosperous calculations, the node is rewarded by having a certain amount of BitCoin ("BTC"), which are subsequently newly generated inside the BitCoin ecosystem. As a result the term, "BitCoin Miner" - because the operation creates new BTC. As the supply of BTC increases, and as the sheer number of transactions increases, art necessary to update anyone ledger gets difficult and more complex. Because of this, the number of new BTC into the system was made to be about 50 BTC (one block) every 10 units, worldwide.
Even though a computing power to get mining BitCoin (and for updating potential fans and patrons ledger) is currently raising exponentially, so may be the complexity of the numbers problem (which, furthermore, also requires a specific amount of guessing), or even "proof" needed to my verizon prepaid phone BitCoin and to make a deal the transactional publications at any presented moment. So the program still only makes one 50 BTC block every 10 minutes, or 2106 blocks every 14 days.
So , in a sense, anyone keeps track of it -- that is, all the nodes in the network observe the history of every one BitCoin.
How much will there be and where will it be?
There is a maximum variety of BitCoin that can possibly be generated, and this number is twenty-one million. According to the Khan Academy, the number can be expected to top out and about around the year 2140.
As of, this morning there was 12. 1 mil BTC in blood flow
Your own BitCoin tend to be kept in a data file (your BitCoin wallet) in your own storage : your computer. The data itself is evidence of the number of BTC you have got, and it can push with you on a portable device.
If which file with the cryptographic key in your billfold gets lost, thus does your flow of BitCoin funds. And you just can't get it spine.
How much is it well worth?
The value varies determined by how much people think that it's worth -- just like in the trading of "real revenue. " But simply because there is no central specialist trying to keep the valuation around a certain grade, it can vary far more dynamically. The first BTC were basically worthy of nothing at the time, nonetheless those BTC survive. As of 11AM concerning December 11, 2013, the public value is $906. 00 YOU per BitCoin. Lake finished writing this particular sentence, it was $900. 00. Around the starting out of 2013, the significance was around $20. 00 US. Upon November 27, 2013 it was valued from more than $1, 000. 00 US for BTC. So it's type volatile at the moment, however , it's expected to subside.
The total value of their BitCoin - at the time of the period at the end with this sentence - approximately 11 billion YOU AND ME dollars.
How can I obtain me some?
Initial, you have to have a BitCoin wallet. This article has got links to get 1.
Then one way is usually to buy some coming from another private get together, like these guys upon Bloomberg TV. One of many ways is to buy a lot of on an exchange, just like Mt. Gox.
Lastly, one way is to attach a lot of computer strength and electricity for the process and become your BitCoin miner. That is definitely well outside the extent of this article. However , if you have a few 1, 000 extra dollars relaxing around, you can get a real challenge rig.
How can I dedicate it?
There are many merchants of all styles that take BitCoin in payment, out of cafes to car dealerships. There's a good BitCoin ATM inside Vancouver, British Columbia for converting a person's BTC to profit Vancouver, BC.
Thus?
Money has had long history - millennia in length. Somewhat recently available legend tells you and me that Manhattan Is was bought designed for wampum - seashells & the like. Inside the early years within the United States, different mortgage lenders printed their own foreign exchange. On a recent trip to Salt Spring Of the islands in British Columbia, I spent up-to-dateness that was only wonderful on the lovely of the islands. The common theme among these was a good trust agreement between its users this that particular currency presented value. Sometimes of which value was linked directly to something good and physical, prefer gold. In 1900 the U. Vertisements. tied its money directly to gold (the "Gold Standard") along with in 1971, concluded that tie.
Right now currency is dealt with like any other thing, although a particular nation's currency value are usually propped up or simply diminished through pursuits of their central loan provider. BitCoin is an various currency that is moreover traded and its price, like that of additional commodities, is determined with trade, but isn't held up or decreased by the action from any bank, but alternatively directly by the routines of its clients. Its supply is bound and known still and (unlike real currency) so will be the history of every singular BitCoin. Its understood value, like all currency, is based on the country's utility and believe in.
As a form of foreign money, BitCoin not simply a new thing in Design, but it certainly is often a new way for capital to be created.

You hadn’t been to Shaw’s Bar in ages and it seemed like only Gina and Jake came here often. This bar, according to Gina, was the 99th precinct territory and held many memories dear to the team. You had trouble staying in touch with your old high school friends but Jake and Gina had played such an important role in your adolescence that you simply couldn’t forget them. Also, they happened to also be in New York so it was rather convenient for you to meet up with them.
Tonight, Gina invited you to get a drink at Shaw’s and you were suspicious as to why she called the meeting. Knowing Gina, she always had some sort of ulterior motive behind her plans. Surprisingly, she was only five minutes late to the bar, which was twenty-five minutes earlier than she had been last time.
“Gina! It’s been so long! How’s everything? How’s Jake?” You greeted Gina with a warm hug, feeling familiarity wash over your mind. It was almost as if you both were meeting at high school again instead of hugging as adults with jobs. Time did really pass as quickly as adults claimed it did.
“I’m good. I have a daughter now, Jake is engaged with Amy, and Lady Gaga had a killer performance at the Super Bowl Halftime show, you know, the usual. Anyways, enough about me, what’s up with you, girl? Still single? What’s your new job again?” Gina nonchalantly asked, leaning against bar casually, scanning over the new drink menu skeptically. You couldn’t help but grin at the usual flair Gina brought with her when she dropped the news. As shocked as you were, you weren’t surprised at how calm she seemed (possibly because she now believed she understood her future after hiring a fortune teller).
“Congratulations! For both the baby and the Jake and Amy news. My new job is at the bank on the corner of 8th street and yes, I’m still single. Why do you want to know if I’m still single?” You eyed her suspiciously, waiting for her to reveal her ulterior motive for inviting you to the bar.
“Perfect! Not about the bank part. Nobody wants to date a banker; it’s like dating a human ATM. No wonder you’re single. But don’t worry, you won’t be for long. Let me introduce you to your future girlfriend. Give me a second, I need to pull up the powerpoint,” Gina swiped through her phone for a couple seconds before pulling up a powerpoint and presenting it in present mode, propping her phone horizontally against the napkin holder. “Allow me to introduce you to Rosa Diaz. She’s one of the best detectives in the precinct. Rosa’s, like, really badass but she’s perfect for a nerd type like you.”
You feigned an insulted look when she said “nerd type” and Gina rolled her eyes, swiping through the powerpoint to a slide with Rosa’s face on it. Gina was right; Rosa seemed really intimidating with her leather jacket, dark lipstick, and intense glare. Gina continued on with her presentation, “You see, Rosa just broke up with her fiance and it sucks to see her alone because now all she does is break stuff instead of making out her old part-time stoner, part-time serial killer boyfriend.”
“Serial killer? Gina, you’re really making me question your judgment,” You shook your head teasingly as you took a sip out of your drink.
“Y/n, honey, you gotta trust me on this. Remember that time everybody thought Michael would be the MVP of the high school football team and Justin ended up as the MVP? Who was the only one who saw that coming? Let me give you a clue: starts with a Gina, ends with a Linetti,” Gina tilted her head, giving you her classic judgemental, hawk-like look.
“Sorry, I forgot. Gina knows best,” You smiled as she nodded approvingly, gesturing for you to continue. “But I don’t know if I can fully trust you when it comes to relationships. Remember that girl you set me up with last time? The date went horribly.” “In my defense, I didn’t know Cindy studied philosophy. I thought she studied psychology and psychology majors are usually good dates because they know how to trick you into falling in love,” Gina turned her palms upwards, shrugging her shoulder as if to additionally convey ‘how was I supposed to know?’.
“If you only came here to try to convince me to get with Rosa, I’d better leave. My love life isn’t exactly my priority,” You winced internally at the bluntness of your comment, but you didn’t enjoy when people pried at your love life.
“Sorry about pushing you, girl. I’m just worried about you. If you don’t date somebody soon, you’re gonna die alone in a sad, lonely apartment. Anyways, if you don’t want me to talk about your love life, I’ll stop,” Gina sighed in defeat, turning off her phone. You asked Gina about her daughter and you two talked for a while, enjoying yourselves over a couple drinks. While you hadn’t mentioned it to Gina at the time out of fear that she would bring Rosa up again, you couldn’t help but think about how you’ve always wanted a badass, secretly soft girlfriend and Gina had found you the perfect match.
~
As much as you wanted to prove Gina’s ideas about being a banker wrong, some days at the bank were really unbearable. There were days where work seemed scarce and today was one of those days. You didn’t really have a high-ranking job at the bank and even though you were one of the most hardworking people in the bank, older bankers still doubted your efficiency and reliability, therefore offering you less work than you wanted.
You were reviewing a couple transfer approvals when a guy in plaid caught your attention. Everybody who entered the bank tried to make themselves seem as formal and business-like as possible, even if they were in a casual outfit, but this guy didn’t seem to care about his impression at all. He was languidly standing aside from the small line of people waiting to deposit cash and staring at a poster about managing mortgages.
The chill that ran down your spine led you to walk out from behind the tellers’ counter and into the main lobby, trying to act as if you had a purpose for leaving the counter. Although the person didn’t glance your way, you kept up the act in case he decided to turn around. As you set the transfer approval documents on Celeste’s desk, checking your watch absentmindedly as if you were waiting for her to arrive. You knew that she was out of office on her extended lunch break, which included an extra hour for her to shop online at Starbucks, and thought your status as a ‘newbie’ would make it easy to feign surprise at Celeste’s routine.
“NYPD! Hands up in the air!” You heard a voice shout as the doors swung open, a squad of heavily armored and armed police barging into the bank. The guy in plaid looked like a bird had just swooped down and flew off with his hat and he turned around, searching frantically for an exit. His eyes landed on the door right next to Celeste’s desk and made a beeline for it. He underestimated the role you played as a civilian as you instinctively picked up Celeste’s chair and smacked him in the torso with it.
The guy collapsed onto the floor as police surrounded him, turning him on his back to capture his wrists in handcuffs. A tall policewoman with a leather jacket and dark lipstick walked over to you, “Hey, that was a pretty cool move. Have I met you before? You seem familiar.”
“You’re Rosa Diaz! Gina told me about you,” You smiled affectionately when Rosa’s indifferent expression molded into one of exasperation at the mention of Gina.
“Of course she would. It was nice meeting you. I should probably go. See you around,” Rosa started to walk away but you quickly grabbed onto her wrist. Her head snapped back towards you and she seemed to tense up immediately. You took that as a sign of discomfort and let go, backing off a bit.
“Sorry about that. I was just wondering if you wanted to maybe grab a drink with me tomorrow night at Shaw’s?” You asked, feeling a bit awkward about asking a girl out for the first time in ages. Rosa’s hardened expression softened for a split second before she regained her steely expression that had an affectionate undertone to it.
“Sure. See you then,” Rosa’s lips curled up at the end of her statement before she turned around to conceal her growing grin. You shouldn’t have doubted Gina for one second because maybe fate did play a role in deciding your future. From now on, you could qualify that “Gina is always right” was a valid statement.

That’s What Friends Are For Ch. 3
Tagging all the usual suspects (if you want to join that list just reply and tell me so) @illegalcerebral @dontshootmespence @stunudo@reid-effect
Chapter 3: Becca’s Daughter
A few hours later, when they finally landed in Las Vegas and got to their hotel, the first thing they did was call Garcia from Reid’s room.
“Hey Pen, you’re on speaker. Did you find anything that might give us a clue about what happened to Rebecca Thompson?” JJ asked.
“Unfortunately, my pretties, what I found leads us to few answers and more questions. First of all, she did, in fact, teach part-time at the same Fine Arts school she attended in the early 2000s, but here’s where things get weird. Eight months ago she moved to a different apartment, in a different building, in another part of the city. Her most recent address was much further away from both the university and her parents’ restaurant. Then all of a sudden about six months ago she left the university, stopped working at the restaurant, and started living off her savings. It looks like she basically became a hermit, but she did some paintings of hers from an online gallery she created but she put all of that money in a savings account that seems to have been set up for that express purpose. Once the payments were deposited she never touched them.”
“Why would she move away and quit the job she loved?” Reid asked.
“I have no idea, unfortunately after that six-month mark, she doesn’t exactly leave a much of a paper trail. She made regular cash withdrawals roughly once a week, all from different ATMs. Most of those were two-hundred and fifty dollars each time but there were a few that were closer to three or four hundred. If you ask me, she started using cash to intentionally hide her tracks.”
“Well, we know she didn’t want anyone to know who the father of her child was, maybe she was afraid of him and went into hiding to protect herself just like…” JJ caught herself before she finished that sentence.
“Ok, something tells me that JJ might be on the right track, so I’m gonna go ahead and see if Rebecca filed a restraining order against anyone in the past year,” Garcia asked.
 “Please do,” Reid asked.
 “Thanks, Penn.”
“But of course, my loves,” Garcia replied before hanging up.
JJ watched as Reid paced around the room. “Spence…we will find out what happened to her. We’ll go to social services first and see what you have to do to take custody of Rebecca’s daughter, then we’ll see if the ME has finished the autopsy yet and if not we can go talk to her co-workers at the university. I promise you, we’ll dig as much as we have to, as deep as you want to take this. It won’t bring her back but it’s better than not knowing.”
“I know. JJ, I meant what I said on the plane. If you weren’t here I don’t know what I’d do right now. I’ve known Becca since we were little kids and even when I left Las Vegas we never lost contact, not even after all these years. I used to visit her every time I came home to see my mom. Becca was the type of person who always had a plan. Sometimes what she did only made sense to her but she never did anything randomly; it was like she had everything planned out and you were a step behind her trying to figure out what was going on in her head as you went along.”
“Sounds like that could get pretty frustrating.”
“It could be, but I learned a long time ago to just trust that she knew what she was doing. The difference here is this time she’s not around to fill me in, about her death, about the baby, about any of this.”
“Well, then let’s start with the breadcrumbs she left behind. We won’t learn anything pacing around a hotel room will we?”
                                                     ***
At Social Services Ms. Frankfort was there waiting for them. As soon as she saw them arrive, she took Reid and JJ into her office. She sat down at her desk, Reid and JJ took their seats in the two chairs opposite her.
 “This is my friend JJ.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” JJ added.
 “Likewise.”
“So what’s my next move?” Reid asked impatiently.
“Ok, while I was waiting for you I did some research since the crossing of state lines means we have to account for the laws governing this process in two different states. Now, as I understand it, your ultimate goal is to formally adopt her, is that correct?” She asked.
“Yes,” Reid answered. “As soon as possible, I don’t want her to be in foster care any longer than necessary.”
“Well, in order to bring her home as quickly as possible, your best bet is to wait on formal adoption and instead focus on becoming her legal guardian right now. That’s a usually a quicker and less complicated process. Plus, it would give us a reason to transfer her case to CPS in DC, which would smooth the road to formal adoption quite a bit because the inter-state business and differing sets of laws would no longer be an issue.”
“And how long does that usually take?” JJ asked.
“Once the hearing actually takes place, not long at all, but there’s usually a two to three month waiting period between the initial filing of a petition for guardianship and that hearing taking place.”
 “Three months?” Reid asked.
“However,” She continued, “there might be a way to expedite that.”
 “How?”
“If it were an open and shut case, the judge might be persuaded to have the hearing sooner out of the best interests of the child. The letter than Miss Thompson left with her daughter goes a long way in that direction but it’s not the same thing as a legal document. The letter says that she was aware that she was dying. If she knew she didn’t have a lot of time left, she might have made those arrangements in a more binding form.”
“You mean like a will?” Reid asked.
“That’s exactly what I mean. If she had one and it says the same thing that letter does, then the hearing becomes all but a formality as long as you pass the background check, which considering the FBI has higher standards for that than we do, there shouldn’t be any doubt about that going smoothly. Once you become her guardian, at that point you would be allowed to bring her home.”
 “What’s her name?”
“She doesn’t have one yet. For babies who are found under circumstances like these, we file what’s called a foundling certificate. It’s like a birth certificate except the baby isn’t given a name. Then we go back once a legal guardian is established and amend their certificate with whatever name their adoptive guardians give them. That might be something to start thinking about. In the meantime, would you like to meet her?”
“C-can I?” He asked. “Is she here?”
Ms. Frankfort nodded. “Excuse me, I’ll just be a moment.” She replied before leaving the room.
Reid knew she couldn’t have been gone for long but to him, it felt like hours.
“This is it, Spence, you ready?” JJ asked.
 He nodded.
When Ms. Frankfort came back in, she was cradling an infant wrapped in a pink, black, and white plaid fleece blanket. “Here she is.” She said, bringing her over to Reid and placing her gently in his arms.
He looked down at her and noticed that she already had a mop of thick, silky, black hair, then, after a few seconds, as though she was aware of his gaze, she opened her eyes and looked up at him. Her eyes were a bluish gray, more muted in color than her mother’s had been, but they were bright and alert. She smiled, and after freeing her arm, reached up. Reid met her halfway and gave her a finger to hand on to. “Hi, little one… my name’s Spencer, and I was friends with your mommy. You’re safe now, I’m gonna take good care of you.”
“She’s a sweetheart,” Ms. Frankfort commented, “Since it was pretty obvious in her case who her guardian was going to be, I’ve been taking care of her, my own daughter was holding her just now. We estimate she’s about eight or nine days old, that blanket is the same one she was wrapped in when she was found. I tried to get her a new one, but she just cried non-stop.”
“But wouldn’t she be too little to recognize that specific blanket?” JJ asked.
“I don’t think it is the blanket itself, if this is the blanket Becca wrapped her in, then it might still have her scent on it as well as her own,” Reid explained. “That familiarity would make her feel secure.”
When he looked back down at the little girl, she was fast asleep.
“Awe” JJ exclaimed in a whisper.
“I’ve never seen her fall asleep like that in the arms of someone she just met, even as little as she is, it’s never happened. Looks like Miss Thompson made the right choice.”

Tap Cash Card tab on home screen> tap Cash Card image> select problem with card> Report card stolen> enter PIN to confirm the action.
Checking the Balance on Your Cash App Card
As mentioned, if you know how to check the balance available in your Cash App account, the same is the Cash App Card Balance as well. The available balance on the Cash App is available on the dashboard. It is usually seen in the top center of the app’s screen as you open it on your mobile.
You can spend your balance by using your Cash App Card or sending a P2P payment, use it to buy Bitcoin, or transfer it to your bank account through standard or instant deposit.
If you are not sure whether a transaction you made had gone through or not, you can check your bank account to see if it is reflected there. There is always some gap when you use your CashAppCard, and it getting reflected in your bank. Wrong balances can appear due to an odd outage that happens with the system. With millions of transactions going through the app, it can have such issues.
If you have doubts about the balance being shown on the Cash App, you can cancel that particular payment. You have a 24-hour window within which you have to do this if you find that the person you sent the payment to has not accepted it for any reason.
To Dispute A Purchase
To dispute a recent purchase via Cash Card, wait till it is completed, and then contact the merchant. If that does not work, report a dispute with customer support.
Benefits of Cash App
There are no fees for basic functions like monthly fees, inactivity fees, or fees to send or receive money.
“Cash boost” helps you save money while performing a transaction with your debit card with specific vendors who provide offers. Only one boost is applicable at a time but you can swap boosts as often as you want.
An independent ‘Cash Card’ is issued by Sutton Bank to each user that helps you make transactions and withdraw cash. This card is not connected to your bank.
For every friend that joins the Cash App using your referral code, you get $5 and they get $10.
You can also invest in specific companies with any amount of money you want. You can buy stocks with your Cash App fund and if it is less, the remaining sum will be drawn from your linked bank account.
Cash App users can buy and sell bitcoin. This facility comes with service fees for every transaction, and additional fees depending on the U.S. exchanges price.

For overdraft-fee haters, the fight against costly charges still drags on
Amanda Dixon
Senior banking reporter
Tumblr media
At Bankrate we strive to help you make smarter financial decisions. While we adhere to strict editorial integrity, this post may contain references to products from our partners. Here’s an explanation for how we make money.
In the age of the coronavirus, overdraft fees are an even touchier subject than usual.
As stimulus checks land in Americans’ accounts, the country’s biggest banks are promising not to use government payments to cover balances for customers who’ve overdrawn their checking accounts.
Banks rake in roughly $17 billion annually from overdraft fees and insufficient funds fees, according to 2017 data from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Though progress has been made in making fees less costly, they remain burdensome for many bank customers, especially frequent overdrafters who can least afford to pay the charges.
“Overdraft fees are still a tremendous problem,” says Rebecca Borné, senior policy counsel at the Center for Responsible Lending. “Any sort of baby steps we see toward more friendly policies are just dwarfed by the, I think, abusive and predatory practices that really pervade the market.”
How overdraft protection works
Overdraft protection is an option for consumers who want their debit card and ATM transactions to go through when there isn’t enough money in their checking account to cover the purchase or cash withdrawal. When a customer enrolls in an overdraft protection program, their bank will approve a transaction when there aren’t sufficient funds to complete it. This is usually done for a set fee, which is most often around $35.
There are also fees for overdrafts on checks and ACH transactions (electronic payments and money transfers), though you won’t have to opt in to get charged. Banks can also reject transactions when there aren’t enough funds in an account and still charge an insufficient funds fee.
These fees can add up quickly. Depending on your bank, you could get hit with as many as six overdraft fees or more in a single day. And overdraft fees have risen over time, from $21.57, on average, in 1998 to $33.36 in 2019.
Data has also shown that consumers who sign-up for overdraft protection programs end up spending more money on fees than those who don’t. The most recent data from the CFPB notes that the most frequent overdrafters — those whose accounts have more than 10 overdrafts and cases of non-sufficient funds in a year — pay almost $450 more in fees than their counterparts who opt out. What’s more, while just 9 percent of account holders fell into the category of being the most frequent overdrafters, they paid nearly 80 percent of all overdraft fees.
Attempts at policy reform at a standstill
Since a 2010 rule went into effect, consumers have had to opt in to overdraft protection programs and consent to having banks charge them for participating. But consumer advocates say this isn’t enough, arguing that consumers all too often sign up for programs without fully understanding what they’re getting themselves into or knowing how much overdraft protection could cost.
In 2017, the CFPB tried to fix the issue of blindly signing up for programs by proposing new models for bank forms disclosing details about overdraft protection. Critics said such changes to disclosures weren’t necessary in the first place. Consumer advocates weren’t satisfied either, suggesting that more was needed to solve the overdraft fee problem.
In the end, the proposal didn’t go anywhere. Plans last year to overhaul the infamous 2010 overdraft rule and potentially repeal it appear to have reached a dead end, too.
Helping consumers avoid overdraft fees
Efforts have been made on all sides to solve the overdraft fee problem. Politicians have tried and failed to ban overdraft fees altogether. Challenger banks have appeared touting zero-overdraft fee policies. Apps, like Dave, help consumers avoid overdraft charges by giving them early access to their paychecks.
Traditional banks have also done their part to make overdraft fees less of an issue through the launch of different programs and products.
David Rothstein, a principal at the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund, says Wells Fargo, for example, has evolved over time in its approach to providing solutions for consumers who tend to overdraw their accounts. The nation’s fourth-largest bank went from offering a prepaid debit card to more recently offering Overdraft Rewind, a feature that automatically waives overdraft and insufficient funds fees if a direct deposit arrives by 9 a.m. and is big enough to cover a negative balance from the previous day. And in March, Wells Fargo announced it would soon offer two new accounts, a checkless account that won’t charge overdraft or insufficient funds fees and a second option that limits overdraft and insufficient funds fees to one charge per month.
Currently, there are more than 40 accounts that meet the standards for a national initiative called Bank On, Rothstein says. These accounts — offered by institutions like Citi, Citizens Bank and Bank of America — charge a flat monthly fee, but no overdraft fees. They’re options for unbanked and underbanked consumers who’ve had problems maintaining a bank account or getting access to one in the past.
The overdraft fee problem persists
Borné from the Center for Responsible Lending questions whether the products that meet the Bank On account standards will be promoted as much as the banks’ set of regular checking accounts that have overdraft fees. She’s also a proponent of banks returning to the days of offering a low-cost line of credit, a business model that charges an inexpensive, upfront monthly fee instead.
Others say there’s nothing wrong with the way banks charge overdraft fees. Lynn David, a community banking consultant, insists that the overdraft fee institutions charge is reasonable since they’re ultimately providing a service by covering transactions when there aren’t enough funds available in an account.
It’s a complex issue that’s yet to be resolved. And it’s one that’s inextricably linked to other concerns, like the need for affordable small-dollar loan alternatives at a time when Americans are still faced with triple-digit interest rate payday loans.
“Research has found that one-third of overdrafters use it intentionally as a way to borrow money. And this shows that too many people are using overdraft as credit,” says Nick Bourke, project director of consumer finance at the Pew Charitable Trusts. “Unfortunately, the banks and the credit unions and the regulators that oversee them have not done enough to solve that problem.”
How consumers can limit overdrafts
Even in the absence of additional policy reform, Americans who often overdraw their checking accounts have options.
Checkless checking accounts, online and mobile accounts through banks like Current and others that prevent overdrafts — such as the ones associated with the Bank On program — could be worth considering. Preventing overdrafts by linking your checking account to a savings account or line of credit may also be possible for a small fee that’s often less than what you’d be charged for an overdraft.
Take advantage of personal finance tools and apps that can help you keep track of your spending. And sign up for account alerts that warn you when your bank account balance is too low.
Opting out of overdraft protection is also possible at any time if you’re spending too much money on fees, something many consumers don’t realize. More than anything, it’s important for bank customers to read the fine print and understand their own account terms and conditions.
“It may be a step forward, that banks are offering more products that simply eliminate the possibility of most overdraft fees,” Bourke says. “But there still remains a much broader problem that consumers don’t understand their core legal right to avoid overdraft fees in the first place.”

Americans Leaving the Country and Living Overseas For Economic Reasons
Tumblr media
Packing the Bags
Being American and having lived overseas for a number of years, my point of view tends to be different than many Americans. People that are living overseas now or who have recently returned from faraway lands will speak of noticeable differences in this country, the people and the general happiness and joy in the faces of people.
When I last noticed the joy was about 5 years ago. People were doing well in general and the economy seemed to be strong. I went away to Ecuador, South America, where I started a family and got into business.
In my business, I had the unique opportunity to get to know a lot of people that were leaving their home countries: the US, Canada, Europe and other places. Most of the people immigrating there were from the US and Canada. While most of those people that moved out of the country and were living there 5 years ago are no longer there statistically, many more have since moved in.
The new people moving in to foreign countries are coming with the same explanation: they can no longer afford to live in their home countries. Their Social Security or pensions are not enough to survive or live comfortably on. The truth is, the majority of those people are correct: their monthly retirement incomes are not enough to live the American dream in many of the larger cities in the US. A few had more than enough income but were looking to shake things up and live their dream of going overseas.
Going overseas is not for everyone. It takes a special type of person to be able to pack up and leave behind their roots. Many people literally sell their homes, their belongings and show up with not much more than is on their backs at the time. Some maintain their homes here in the US just in case they decide to come back. What is the average age of these daring individuals? Most are over 70. Usually they are married. A few widows or single people may move overseas.
These people who average 70 or better generally adjust pretty well. They quickly meet people, get involved in community projects and become volunteers. Some start businesses because they simply cannot imagine doing nothing all day at home. Many take advantage of the opportunity to explore their new country and maybe even other neighboring countries. But what types of challenges do these people face once they get there?
New Challenges
Although not all people moving overseas are retirees, many are. The majority of younger people do not have the means or opportunity to simply leave their careers behind. For those select few that do, they generally adjust very well. For those older retirees, the challenges can be quite different.
Challenges for retirees can include trying to arrange for medical and dental care, making sure their pension or Social Security payments will reach them overseas and at a minimal cost, decisions with what to do with their lifetime of memories, houses, etc. How do they explain their move to their family members who think they suddenly have become crazy and irresponsible? They also have to try to navigate the often times complicated world of immigration law in a foreign country.
Medical and Dental Care
One of the priorities of senior citizens is to find medical coverage and facilities for their unique personal situations. While finding excellent medical care overseas is not generally a problem, it could be depending on where you go. Remember that many people are moving overseas to avoid the high costs back home which include medical care. In many countries in Central and South America, for example, a medical checkup may only be $10-$20 on average. Major medical coverage may be the sticking point. A lot of effort should be put into making sure the plans chosen are sufficient and will pay out should the need arise. You should also consider how long you may have to wait for emergency surgery including dental care. see here 해외토토추천
Dental care generally is very cheap in Central and South America as well as parts of Asia. Many countries are famous dental vacation destinations. People can fly to various countries, receive major dental care and save money. Sometimes, you can get your dental work and take a vacation for the same price as just dental work back home.
Getting Access to Money
Obviously, making sure money will be available at all times is of paramount importance to everyone traveling overseas - retired or not. Some countries may allow tourists or residents to open bank accounts. Some countries may not. In those countries where they can, people have become very resourceful and found that if they simply deposit one of their personal checks in their foreign account up to about two weeks in advance, they can get their money without paying any special fees. They just need to plan a little bit in advance.
Of course, there are always money transfer services for emergencies but you would not want to use that type of service every month. The fees can get very steep, very fast.
Pulling cash out of ATM machines overseas can not only cost you money because of foreign exchange fees but also because the ATM machines often charge $5 or more regardless if you pull out $1 or $500. That gets terribly expensive especially when you need money for big ticket items such as apartment deposits, legal fees, etc. that may not be able to be paid by credit card.
Beyond the complications and expense of ATM withdrawals, the US government is also actively trying to limit the amount of money you can wire internationally on a monthly basis. Moving money in the future by wire transfer may continue to get more complicated and may require all sorts of paperwork to be filled out. Before leaving, make sure you leave instructions with your bank back home just in case you need to wire money.
When you speak with your bank, make sure you let them know you will be using any bank debit cards overseas. Also contact your credit card companies and inform them of the same thing. If you do not, you may find your cards frozen and you will have to call the bank or credit card company to get them working again. Not only can that be embarrassing but it can be really inconvenient.
People with assets still back home probably should consider leaving a power of attorney with a trusted relative. Many people moving overseas have already put their homes on the market but have not sold them yet. In today's housing market, it can take a long time to sell a home so there may be no reason to put off your overseas move unless you cannot afford to go without the sale first. Bringing the minimum things possible with you is highly recommended. With all the airlines jacking up their fees on what seems like a daily basis, lugging along an extra 5-10 suitcases can not only be difficult but also expensive. You may have to make some tough decisions on what goes and what stays. Storing things with relatives might be an option. The other thing you can do is make an earlier exploratory trip to your destination country with the intention of checking out furniture stores, etc.
Exploratory Trips
If you do make exploratory trips, you have the opportunity to see what brands and qualities are available where you are going. Many American brands may be much more expensive overseas. Many imported Asian brands can be relatively cheap though depending on what it is. In Ecuador, for example, electronics are very expensive. You will pay twice the going US price for pretty much any appliance or electronic. Do your research however you can in advance and it will likely pay off in less moving expenses. Also, be sure you know the laws regarding the importation of your household goods in the foreign country should you decide to move your things anyways. The laws may limit your options until you have residency or nationality status. Even the quantity of electronics and other goods in your carry-on or checked luggage may be an issue so do your homework.
Your Family Back Home
It is not very uncommon for older retirees to need to explain why they have decided to leave their family behind and move overseas. Often times family members will try to discourage their parents or close relatives. The family members may be concerned about their relative's safety or may be wondering if they are going off the deep end. These close connections are perhaps one of the main reasons why people only live on average just a few years away from their home country before returning. As someone who has known many retirees in exactly this same situation with their families, I can tell you that it is never easy for them. While people keep in close contact with their loved ones, they generally do not let these initial concerns by their family members stop them - and rightly so.

The Sprawling ATM Epic (as requested)
A long time ago (last week), I mentioned my tendency to occasionally spin epic tales out of really mundane activities, including one time that I visited the ATM.
And @elveny said:
Okay, who else wants to hear the ATM story now? :D
To which I replied that I would tell it if people were really interested.
And the Tumblrverse took up that cry:
@elveny said:
Yeeeees!! Tell it! :-D

@aearyn said:
YES TELL THE STORY
@quax-of-dorne said:
I’m pretty is as epic as your swtor hunts…
Well, I can’t let everyone down! A little delayed (because this past work week was a little intense despite being shortened), but let me see if I can remember this epic tale of adventure…
(But under a cut, for I’m sure someone doesn’t want to scroll past all of this)
A LONG TIME AGO… in a town probably far, far away, there once was a teenager, who was stuck in a car with her mother and baby sister, the latter of which had made the mistake of asking her very bored older sister “what did you do yesterday?”
Being a good, good big sister, this teenager, who had recently gotten her drivers license and had a vehicle at her disposal, wanted to regale her younger sibling with a tale worthy of such a question. Sure, she could have just said something quick and let the conversation turn to other topics, but that would have been unfair to young pre-pubescent child, who always hung on her older sister’s every word and definitely never snarked at her in the way middle schoolers sometimes do that some less charitable folks might call “irritating”, but this narrator insists are “charming in their own way”.
And thus… she told her tale.
See, back in ye olden times of 2000, things were a little different than they are now. Back then, teenagers weren’t allowed to have things like Debit and Credit Cards™, but minors were allowed to have Savings Accounts. (Or perhaps our brave heroine was just ignorant of the finer points of finance. But that would be another tale.) Boring talks of legalities aside, the lack of access to funds via the simple swipe of a card was very troublesome for this teenager, for she had a Car™ that used to transport her to work (and occasional teenager things like The Movies and Stupid Adventures With Friends). And Cars™ required Gas™. And Gas™ required Money™.
Money itself was not the problem, for this brave teenager had a job and a paycheck, but she had to deposit said paycheck into a Savings account (manually, because this was back in the dark ages, before Direct Deposit™ became a Thing).
(Okay perhaps it was a thing, and our brave heroine really just didn’t understand the finer points of the banking system. We are getting sidetracked though, with all this talk of Reality. Le us focus instead on the story)
At this point, a cry came up from the back seat of the vehicle, “I just was curious, I didn’t want all this backstory.”
(Somewhere in the depths of the internet, @elveny, @aearyn, and @quax-of-dorne nodded in agreement.)
“You asked about my day,” the big sister replied, “and I don’t want to disappoint.”
Regardless of the finer points of the banking system of America in ye olden year of 2000, our brave, brave heroine was faced with a problem. She needed Gas™, for her faithful steed was edging close the empty line, and Mustangs were not known for their stellar fuel consumption. But as she opened her wallet, to her great dismay, flies flew out, and an empty money pouch greeted her.
“This will not do at all!” She cried. “If I try to pump gas without paying first, the constabulary will be after me, and rightly so!”
So, emboldened to take care of her mode of transportation so Teenagers Things could still be done, she hopped into ‘Stang the Magnificent (for that was his name, fite me), and began the long arduous mile and a half trek from her suburbia house to the closest bank. It was a long, road, and she had to turn many, many corners, and pull her steed to a stop at even more cursed stop signs. (This particular burb was known for its constables, who liked to spy on teenagers pretending to slow down to a stop and writing them tickets. And if you thought having to get cash was an epic at this point in time, try having to deal with traffic court.)
But, after a long, long road, she finally arrived at the bank, and to her great luck, the ATM lanes were empty. She rolled up to the first kiosk, hardly believing her luck. These lanes had been recently added, and she no longer had to find a good spot in front of the bank to sable her mighty steed so she could stand in line to procure her cash, which was far preferable to having to deal with standing in line inside, or go through the actual lanes. (For she was a minor at this point, and occasionally the tellers got snippy with that fact and forced her to go get her Mommy so she could withdraw $20 for gas monies.)
She reached over for her wallet, but to her great horror—it was missing! She gasped, wondering what evil had befallen her beloved coin purse, until she realized… she had left it at home. This was doubly troublesome, for her wallet also contained her drivers license, and that was not something she was supposed to be without while at the wheel of ‘Stang the Magnificent.
(She was also quietly grateful she had been so careful to come to a full and complete stop at every stop sign. For the police officers of her village were very gleeful in their ticket writing. It’s almost like teenagers had a general reputation for mouthing off to their elders. Not that our brave heroine was one of those. Of course not. She just liked to tell increasingly long stories to her baby sister who was definitely not crying for mercy at this point in the back seat.)
Sheepishly, she pulled away from the kiosk without a word, and had to navigate the very poorly designed parking lot, that required her to completely exit the bank onto a Busy Main road that she couldn’t turn left on back to the easy path home, but having to wind through an even longer and circuitous path back home. She did so cautiously, holding her breath the entire time, for she was without a license, and getting pulled over would be a Bad Thing.
She eventually made her way back home, but alas, she could not find her wallet! She searched high. And low. And then high again (just to be sure). Where, o where could it have gone?
She returned back to her faithful steed to commiserate with it, and apologize for not being able to get it the sustenance it so needed, when she found it. THE WALLET.
It had fallen underneath the passenger seat sometime on the long trek to the bank.
Oops.
Crisis duly averted, she and ‘Stang the Magnificent retraced their steps, through all of the twists and turns, and the many, many stop signs as well. Even though this time she came to a full and complete stop, she felt more confident, now that her License of Driving was securely back in hand. She reached her destination once again, although she had to wait for several other gentlefolk to conduct their affairs with the ATM Merchant, for she had dallied too long in her search.
Eventually, though, she came up to the ATM, and with card in hand, requested her $20 bill that would procure enough gasoline to satiate her mighty steed’s hunger. It flashed a warning at her, that since she was withdrawing from a savings account, this was the last withdrawal she’d be allowed without incurring a mighty fee.
“Oh no,” she muttered to herself, “will $20 be enough to get me through for the month?”
To be safe, she got an extra twenty, although she did so warily, for this was the Dark Times before we had pocket computers that always told us what our balance was. She would have had to keep this tally manually, in a checkbook, and she was sixteen. She had no time to be balancing a checkbook!
But fortune was with our brave heroine, and she did not overdraw her account. She hastily stuffed the cash into her beloved coin purse, and urged ‘Stang the Magnificent back toward the busy main street that would take them to the gas station.
“I can tell you about how I filled up the gas tank,” the older sister graciously offered at this point to her younger sibling in the back.
“No, no, I can’t take it anymore!” she cried. “I will never ask you any probing questions about your life ever again!”
And thus, the older sister won an even greater battle that day. And even to this very day, her younger sister never even realized it.
THE END

Missouri bank making money off fees from prepaid debit cards for unemployment
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – As unemployed Missourians struggle to pay their bills, there’s one bank making money from the crisis.
Central Bank, based in Jefferson City, has the state contract for the prepaid debit card about 30,000 Missourians use to collect their unemployment benefits. Those debit cards come with an extensive list of fees.
So many fees that Harold Julius is furious.
“This isn’t what I pay taxes for so they can charge me fees to collect unemployment,” said Julius, who has suddenly found himself out of work for the first time in 28 years as a union carpenter.
Central Bank charges $2 to withdraw money from an ATM if you make more than one withdrawal a week. The same goes with checking your balance. It’s $1 each time if you do it more than once each week. There’s a $5 charge to use a bank teller and $3 if you call a customer service representative for help more than once a week.
That service representative fee is something Howard said he discovered after he had trouble logging into his account.
“Their computer crashed and the only way to log onto that site was to call the card, and after two weeks and 105 calls, I finally got a hold of this lady from Mo Access,” Julius said.
Mo Access is the name of Missouri’s unemployment benefits debit card. That call for help cost Julius $3.
So far, Julius estimated he’s burned up at least $7.50 in fees at a time he’s already having trouble making ends meet.
“I think it’s wrong for someone to make money on everyone being on unemployment,” Julius said.
A Central Bank spokesman told FOX4 that most people don’t end up paying the fees by limiting their use of the ATM or call center to just once a week.
However, if you compare Kansas’ unemployment debit card arrangement to Missouri’s the difference is stark.
There are almost no fees in Kansas. The only fees are if you use an out-of-network ATM or lose your card. Bank of America is in charge of the Kansas card.
Credit card analyst Ted Rossman of bankrate.com said there are ways to avoid fees.
“One way to get around an out-of-network ATM fee is to make a debit purchase at the point of sale and ask for cash back,” he said.
User fees on unemployment debit cards used to be common place, but in recent years, many states have struck new deals with banks and eliminated the fees.
“People don’t want to feel like they are being nickled and dimed, especially at a time they are struggling financially,” Rossman said.
Fees aren’t the only way banks make money from prepaid cards. They also get paid every time the card is used to purchase something (usually between 1 and 3%).
A spokeswoman for the Missouri Department of Labor said Missourians are made aware of the fees before they sign up for a debit card. She said people can avoid paying any fees by choosing to have their checks deposited directly into their bank account

How to Send Money to Ecuador with WorldRemit
Need to send money to Ecuador quickly and cheaply? WorldRemit may be the best provider for you. I've had to transfer cash into Ecuador for numerous reasons and WorldRemit has been my go-to for the majority of these situations.
Once you've read this article you'll be armed with a step-by-step guide on how to send money to Ecuador with WorldRemit.
But first, I suggest you check out this article on sending money to Ecuador which covers other options (ATMs etc). This article is specifically how to transfer cash online using WorldRemit and we don't cover other online options such as Western Union or Xoom.
Why use WorldRemit to send money to Ecuador?
I continue to choose WorldRemit because of the low rates (incl fees), ease of use and transfer speed.
My needs have mostly been for an online service that would allow me to transfer from my US account to my Ecuadorian account. There's numerous options that fulfil this general requirement, but I like WorldRemit because:
Low fees
WorldRemit has a sliding fee structure based on the amount sent. This is always very transparent so there are no nasty surprises.
Amount Sent
WorldRemit Fee
$500
$9.99
$1,000
$11.99
$1,500 - $5,000
$14.99
You can see the fee basically has an upper limit for $14.99 (sidenote - why not just call it $15? This type of pricing annoys me...)
This $15 fee is the same if you're sending $1,500 or $5,000. So, it's more cost effective to send larger amounts, less often.
$5,000 will last most expats 2-3 months. So, you should be able to get away with one fee of $15 to cover your money transfer needs for 2-3 months.
You can then use your local debit card (I use JEP) to get cash out or pay directly with the debit card wherever it's accepted - ie supermarkets etc, but not local markets.
Up to $5,000
$5,000 is the maximum that WorldRemit let's me send in one transaction. I've tried to send more, but it would not let me and I needed to send several smaller transactions with separate fees.
I'm not clear if this limit changes based on personal circumstances. I'm not guaranteeing $5,000 will be available to you - maybe your limit is less. I don't know.
You can check your limit once you've hooked up your US (or Canada, Australia etc) bank account to WorldRemit and start a transfer to Ecuador. This only takes a few minutes and you don't need to finish the transfer to find your limit.
Transfer speed
Money is generally in the account the next business day. On several occasions it's been transferred on the same day!
I can tell how long it takes because I receive one email from WorldRemit telling me the transfer is being processed and another saying it's processed.
Money has been transferred by the next business day. Every. Time.
It's great to know this speed is consistent as there have been numerous occasions where unforeseen circumstances have arose and I needed funds quickly. Having the cash quickly has saved me considerable heartache.
Easy to use - 2 minute transfers
The WorldRemit transfer process is easy to use, especially for repeat transactions. It takes me less than 2 mins to complete repeat transactions.
The main time hurdle is adding new accounts, because you obviously need to enter in the account information for the recipient (ie your account in Ecuador).
The website UX is clean and it's always clear what your next step is. For example, the very first screen is a simple prompt asking which country you would like to transfer to. This clear process means that it's difficult to get lost at any point.
Sending money with WorldRemit: Step-by-step
I took some screenshots of a recent transaction to show you how to do the transfer to a local Ecuador bank. The most difficult part was finding the recipient's bank account details in the monster drop down list.
I actually had to email WorldRemit's support team to clarify the recipient bank name. Their support came back to me within an hour to provide my answer. I was happy with this support.
Step 1: Visit WorldRemit website
If you use my link, you'll get your first transfer free (up to $20). I'll also get a free transfer 🙂
Self explanatory step, but we need to start somewhere!
Head on over to the WorldRemit site.
Visit WorldRemit Site
Step 2: Create account
Basic details here like name, email address password etc. Shouldn't take more than 2 minutes to complete.
Step 3: Recipient country (Ecuador!)
Of course, you can also use WorldRemit to transfer to many other countries. For us expats in Ecuador, we'll obviously want to choose Ecuador as our recipient country.
Step 4: Bank transfer
We are focusing on transfers to a local Ecuadorian bank account (yours or a friend's). So, leave it as the default "Bank Transfer" option and hit continue.
But, you can also elect for a cash pickup at several bank branches if you prefer cash. Please be careful if you're walking around with large sums of money.
Step 5: Recipient bank
There's three options for choosing which bank you want to deposit into:
Banco Guayaquil
Banco Bolivariano
All other Ecuador Banks
This 3rd option is very extensive and covers many, many Ecuadorian banks and cooperativas. This is what I use for JEP.
Step 6: Amount (& fees)
They've made it easy to understand how much you're sending and what the recipient will receive. If you're transferring from the US, then this won't change because Ecuador also uses USD.
If you're transferring from another country such as Canada or Australia, then this will change and you can see how much the recipient will receive.
This is also where you can see the fees charged by WorldRemit. If you change the amount to send, the fees will also update.
I've set it as $5,000 because this is the most cost-effective option when allowing for the $15 fee charged by WorldRemit.
Step 7: Recipient Details
Here you'll choose whether your sending another transfer to an existing recipient or adding a new recipient.
Adding new recipients is the most time consuming part of the process. The good news is that once a new recipient is added, their details are saved making it super easy to make additional transfers.
The ability to save recipients will come in very handy if you're sending regular payments to yourself in Ecuador.
Step 8: Recipient's Bank
Choosing the recipient's bank was the most difficult part for me.
Why? Because I did not realize that Ecuador had so many banks and cooperativas.
And this may sound silly, but I didn't know the name of my bank. Well, the official name anyway.
The bank I was looking for was JEP and that's the name you see on their ATMs, at branches etc. I did a quick search on their website and found the following official name:
Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito “Juventud Ecuatoriana Progresista” Ltda
So, I had a good lead and tried to find this exact name in the list. But, I couldn't find the exact name amongst the many different cooperativas. As I wasn't prepared to take a gamble, I decided to email support to ask them. One hour later I got the confirmation I was after:
JEP is included in WorldRemit as "COOP. AHORRO Y CREDITO JUVENTUD".
I've included this here as  JEP is popular bank amongst Cuenca based expats.
If you're having similar issues trying to find your bank amongst the list in WorldRemit, I suggest you also contact their support for confirmation. This is likely to be much easier and quicker than trying to get a refund.
Step 9: Payment
You'll need a debit or credit card to make the payment.
It would be nice if they integrated directly with my US bank, and maybe they will in time. For now, you'll need to use a debit or credit card.
Debit cards
Make sure you've set your card limit to cover the amount (incl fees) that you're transferring. You should be able to do this in your internet banking.
Credit cards
Paying with credit cards is likely to attract a hefty cash advance fee from your bank. Definitely check your bank's cash advance policy before doing this!
Step 10: Success (& track)
The final step in the process is the confirmation.
Congratulations. You've now setup the transfer and it should arrive within 48 hours.
You can also track the transfer by downloading the App or logging into your WorldRemit account (via their website). They will also send you email updates when they've:
Started the transfer
Completed the transfer
I hope you found this guide helpful. Let me know in the comments below 🙂
You can get your first transfer free with WorldRemit by using my link (I'll also get a free transfer).

Closest Chase Bank Branch to Charlotte, North Carolina
Article Summary
The closest Chase Bank to Charlotte, North Carolina is in Clemson, South Carolina (near the Clemson University campus), which is about a 2-hour drive (133 miles) from Charlotte.
Until August, 2019, when the Chapel Hill location was opened, Chase had no branches in the state of North Carolina. Chase says that it has plans to open 40 new locations in North Carolina from 2019 through 2022.
Almost the same distance away (further away by mileage, but about the same drive time) from Charlotte is a Chase branch location in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Chase Bank is the largest in the United States when you consider number of branches. With more than 5,100 branches throughout the United States, Chase beats out Bank of America, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo, each of which has significantly fewer branch locations.
“Chase plans to initially add up to 40 branches and 80 ATMs in the next three years – mainly in the Triangle and Charlotte areas – and hire up to 250 employees, giving local customers access to its banking services while creating local job opportunities for residents.”
But if you’ve traveled much throughout the country, you’ve likely found that Chase locations are certainly not everywhere, not even in every large city.
Charlotte, North Carolina is one of the cities that doesn’t currently (as of this article’s writing in January, 2020) have a Chase Bank location. However, Chase announced in August, 2019 that they are planning to build “up to 40 branches and 80 ATMs in the next three years – mainly in the Triangle and Charlotte areas“.
The closest Chase bank branch to Charlotte, North Carolina is in Clemson, South Carolina. Near the Clemson University campus is a branch that’s approximately 133 miles from Charlotte.
If you go the other direction out of Charlotte, you can get to the second closest location of a Chase Bank branch, located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, about 140 miles away from Charlotte.
Chase Banking Activities Not Requiring a Local Branch
If you need access to Chase Bank services in the Charlotte area, you can still use non-Chase ATMs (there are currently no Chase ATM locations close by Charlotte either) to access cash, and in many cases, depending upon what kind of account you have, you won’t have to pay an ATM transaction fee. If you have any of the following types of accounts with Chase, you are given the ability to withdraw money from your account without incurring transaction fees:
Chase Premier Plus Checking (up to four ATM transactions per month are refunded)
Chase Sapphire Checking (no limit on ATM transaction refunds)
Chase (like most major banks) has also made it possible to deposit checks remotely using their Chase Mobile app on your smart phone.
Chase Banking Activities That DO Require a Local Branch
There are many banking activities for which you will need access to a local branch. For instance, I recently needed access to a Chase branch in Nashville, TN to get a cashier’s check, and I found out just before taking a trip to Nashville that there were no Chases locations there. Not having a local branch in Nashville made it difficult for me to get done what I needed to without creating the risk of a potential lost cashier’s check after having to travel across the country with it.
If you need to be able to withdraw large amounts of money, you’d need to go to a local branch. Also, if you need to create a money order, have access to a safe deposit box, deposit cash, use a notary service without paying a fee, or for any activities (like in-person consultations) that require meeting with someone face to face, you won’t be able to do that in Charlotte until Chase installs branches there.
Alternatives to Chase in Charlotte, NC
If you spend considerable time in Charlotte, and you need access to local banking services, there are a couple of options you have to solve your banking needs: 1) wait for Chase to have branches there or 2) switch to another bank with services similar to what you need, and that has local branches in the Charlotte area.
Wells Fargo has more than 10 locations in the Charlotte area. Bank of America also has several locations in the area. Those two banks are likely the most similar in terms of size and banking capability.
Charlotte is home to several national bank chains as well as more regional or local options. If you’re looking for a bank that has lots of branches not only in Charlotte, but throughout North Carolina, you might find this list of banks with the most branches in North Carolina helpful:
BB&T – 319 branches in North Carolina
Wells Fargo – 315 branches in North Carolina
First Citizens – 236 branches in North Carolina
Bank of America – 148 branches in North Carolina
SunTrust – 118 branches in North Carolina
There are also several local credit unions and smaller banks in the Charlotte area. Smaller financial institutions like those are much better at getting to know you personally and making you feel a part of their community than the larger banks, who tend to not see any particular customer as an opportunity for relationship banking, and whose branch employees tend to turn over at a higher rate, making it more difficult to get to know them personally.

Ranking the 39 best ways to get out of debt in 2019
Whether your mountain of debt started with a shopping spree where you got a little trigger happy with the plastic or pursuing a fancy liberal arts degree, you’re here because you want to take a bulldozer to that mountain and finally be #debtfree.
Sitting on a big pile of debt is basically burning piles of money on the reg. For some perspective, Americans with commercial debt spend, on average, $1,300 per month on interest payments. (1)
That’s more than a lot of people’s rent, and it does nothing but keep collections at bay.
This only solution is to pay your debt off faster. This post covers how to do that in 3 different ways:
Improving the terms of your debt
Cutting costs
Making extra disposable income
Be sure to check out my other rankings: best online business ideas, small business ideas, and how to make money fast.
Let’s do this. Ranked by how quickness, sustainability, and ease, here are the best ways to get out of debt:
39. Do the math
If you’ve got $20,000 in credit card debt and you’re making $300 payments each month, it’ll be just over 12 years until you’re debt-free. You’ll have basically lit more than $23,000 on fire in the form of interest payments.
Use a debt repayment calculator like Credit Karma’s (2) to crunch the numbers and figure out exactly how long it’s going to take you to pay off your debt and how much you’ll be paying in interest.
38. Automate your finances
Self-made millionaire David Bach wrote a whole book on this one called “The Automatic Millionaire”, saying that it’s “the one step that virtually guarantees that you won’t fail financially.” (3)
Set a goal for when you want to finish paying off your debt and use the flipside of that debt calculator to calculate how much you’d have to pay each month to do that. Set up automatic payments on all of your credit cards and loans to that monthly minimum.
Recent college grads: the US Department of Education gives you a 0.25% interest discount just for setting up autopay, and many private lenders give you up to 0.50% off. (4) Not a lot, but it takes like 20 seconds to sign up for autopay.
37. Pay the maximum
A whopping 73% of Americans die in debt. A big reason is that many of them (yep, lookin’ at you) are only paying the minimum on their debt, which is the best way to stay in debt forever.
Instead, pay the maximum amount your budget will allow each month. Those courtside tickets can wait until AFTER you’ve paid off your debt.
36. The “avalanche” method
Call it the avalanching, stacking, or the ladder method, it’s all the same: hands down the most financially savvy and efficient method for paying off multiple different streams of debt.
Pay off your high-interest debts first (usually your credit cards). Set your automatic payments to the minimum on all of your cards and loans except the one with the highest interest rate: throw all the money you can at that one until it’s gone. Then target your second highest interest rate using all the extra money you have in the absence of the first debt, and so on.
35. The “snowball” method
For those who need to be coddled a little, snowballing is paying off your smallest debts first so that these little wins can motivate you to attack larger, more intimidating debts.
That initial boost of confidence that the snowballing method creates has helped people tackle $50k+ in debt in just a few years. (5)
34. Cash out your credit card cashback
If you’ve got cashback sitting around on any of your credit cards from incurring all this debt, you may as well take advantage of it.
Don’t try to earn any more cashback until you’re debt-free, though.
33. Put windfalls towards your debt
Put any random money you earn outside your regular income towards your debt.
Whether it’s a work bonus, birthday money, a holiday gift, your tax refund, or a $100 you found on the ground, directing that money towards your debt puts you a little bit closer to debt-free status.
32. Sell stuff
Don’t lie, you probably have a basement, garage, or closet somewhere that looks like an audition for Hoarders (without the dead cats, I hope). I’m not going to preach to you about the “life-changing magic of cleaning out your garage”, but I am going to preach to you about how selling crap you don’t need to pay off debt you shouldn’t have is a good idea.
What’s that? You’re too lazy? You don’t even have to leave your house. Sell stuff from your phone on Letgo. (6) Try out Decluttr. (7)
31. Downgrade your stuff
Lifestyle inflation is real. People don’t like to downgrade their standard of living. But you have to if you want to double down on your debt.
This couple even sold their brand new car and got a used junker when they realized they could have used that money to pay off their debt. It probably stung a little, but they managed to pay off $52,000 of debt in just 18 months. (8)
30. Free entertainment
Instead of spending money on movies or concert tickets, seek out cheaper ways to have fun.
Look online and see what kind of free things are happening around your city. Outdoor festivals, movies in the park, all that stuff.
No need to be deathly bored while you’re climbing your way out of debt hell.
29. Garage sale arbitrage
Dig through cheap crap at garage sales, strike gold. Buy valuable items for a fraction of what they’re worth, and resell them online for a huge profit. Repeat.
Corey Levitan, a writer for Men’s Health, banks an extra $20,000 a year doing this. And he only spends 3-5 hours/week on it. (9)
28. Shop through cashback sites/apps
Cashback sites like Rakuten (10) give you money for shopping online and in-store, kinda like a delayed discount. When you cash out your earnings, put it all towards your debt. Also, use a debit card instead of a credit card when doing this unless you want to spend more time paying it off.
Don’t go on a shopping spree just for cashback, though. That’s exactly how a lot of people end up in credit card debt – cashback rewards on their credit cards.
Save these sites for those everyday purchases you have to make, like groceries or maybe clothing.
27. Buy everything with cash
Many studies have shown people generally spend less when they pay with cash than they pay with credit. (11)
Think about this: not only do you have to visit an ATM or bank any time you need cash, but watching those green bills leave your hand is more difficult than swiping/chipping/tapping a piece of plastic.
Also, you won’t be adding more to your current credit balances.
But this applies to debit cards, too. No debt involved with debit cards, but it’s still easier to swipe it than to hand over bills.
26. Keep the change
Take all the loose change you find or get back throughout the day and put it in a jar. Each month, deposit it all and use it to chip away at your debt.
25. Negotiate your bills
Anyone who tells you that you can’t negotiate bills is a liar. Everything is negotiable. According to Consumer Reports, 89% of people who try to bargain are successful at least once. (12)
Try your hand at haggling with your cable and internet bills, and then move up to the big leagues: medical bills, credit cards, and car insurance.
24. Lower your rent
Bargain with your landlord, especially if you live in an apartment: offer to extend your lease, give up your parking space, agree to show your apartment to potential renters, get some roommates, pay a few months’ rent upfront, or refer new renters for a discount.
The best time to negotiate is a few months before your lease ends.
23. Negotiate your credit card interest rate
Sometimes it really is as easy as just asking.
Time Magazine’s money experts recently did a personal finance boot camp that recommends you call up your credit card company and ask them for a lower APR. 80% of callers asking for a lower interest rate were successful. (13)
22. Don’t close credit cards
The second you pay off one credit card, you’ll probably want to immediately call up the credit card company and close it. Don’t.
Unless your card charges an annual fee, keep it open. Check the FICO 5. (14) One of the biggest factors making up your credit score (30%) is your credit to debt ratio. The less credit you have available to you, the higher that ratio, the lower your credit score.
21. Freeze your credit cards… literally
Of course, keeping your credit cards in your wallet after you pay them off is like a recovered cocaine addict keeping an old stash in his bedroom.
Stick them in a bowl of water and freeze it. Every time you want to take the plastic gods out on an impulsive shopping spree, you’ll have to wait for a block of ice to thaw while you think about your life choices.
20. Monitor your credit report
Monitor your credit report on a regular basis for any errors that could be hurting your credit score. If you see any, immediately submit a dispute to get them removed so you can nudge your score upwards to secure better interest rates in your negotiations.
Each of the 3 credit bureaus gives you 1 free report a year. (15) Sites like Credit Karma (16) let you look at your report as much as you want with no penalties as well.
19. Rent your stuff
Airbnb’s cutesy tiny houses and extravagant vacation rentals are taking over, but you don’t have to have real estate to make money renting things out anymore.
Rent out your bike/recreational gear on Spinlister. (17) Got an old bridesmaids dress or fancy tux lying around? Rent out clothing on Style Lend (18) and Date My Wardrobe. (19) Compete with Alamo by renting out your car on Turo (20) or GetAround. (21) And you can rent just about anything on RentNotBuy and Loanables. (22) (23)
18. Borrow against your life insurance
If you’ve got a permanent life insurance policy with a cash value, you can borrow from it to pay off your debt. Just make sure it doesn’t backfire. Interest rates are often lower with this method, but there are penalties involved (including burdening your beneficiaries if you die before the debt is paid off) and you could risk losing your life insurance.
17. Make every debt payment on time
No, not just to keep collections at bay. Paying your debts on time keeps your credit score as high as possible, seeing as it’s the most important (35%) of the 5 FICO credit score factors (24).
A higher credit score gives you more leverage when negotiating down your interest rates with your credit card companies. It also helps you secure a lower rate if you want to refinance/consolidate your debt, which you can learn about in the next two tips.
Also, paying on time means you avoid late fees, which are just a waste of money.
16. Refinance your debt
If you qualify for refinancing, you should 100% do it. Basically, you get a new, better (lower interest, usually a personal loan) loan to replace one of your old (higher interest) loans. You can cut years off of your repayment schedule by refinancing.
Pay attention to the term length of the loan you’re refinancing your debt with, though, especially with long-term debt like mortgages. Let’s say you have 5 years left on a 30-year mortgage. Refinancing to a lower interest rate will lower your payment, but you’ll end up paying thousands more in interest.
15. Debt consolidation
Consolidating debt is simply combining multiple debts into one debt by taking out a lower interest loan. Most of the time, consolidating your debt also involves refinancing your debt (see previous tip) – especially if you have several high-interest debt sources.
In addition, you can spend less time juggling 5 different debt accounts and making sure to pay everything on time. Less chance of incurring late fees or worse – the wrath of collections.
If you’ve got debt from more than 2 different sources, you should definitely consider a debt consolidation loan.
14. Balance transfer credit card
Live-saving credit cards exist: they offer a 0% interest rate for a specific “introductory period”, which can be 6 months, 12 months, or even 21 months. You transfer your debt to this card and pay it off interest-free.
Just make sure you pay it off in time, and don’t use it to spend.
The Chase Slate is the only 0% APR balance transfer card with no fees, (25) and the Citi Simplicity offers the longest introductory period of them all (21 months). (26)
13. Loan forgiveness
If you’re a teacher, public servant, permanently disabled, Peace Corps volunteer, nurse, or law enforcement and you have student loan debt, the government might actually pay it off for you.
You don’t get away scot-free, though; these programs usually require you to make 120 qualifying payments (aka 10 years of monthly payments) before you’re considered for loan forgiveness. Check out the Federal Student Aid website for details. (27)
Whether or not you’re forgiven for your gluttonous spending on a metaphysical level is another matter.
12. Have a small emergency fund
If you don’t have some cash set aside for emergencies, you’re going to incur more debt if you get into a bad car accident or something similar.
It doesn’t have to be a lot – $1,000 should be enough for the moment, and you can build it up in increments of as little as $50 a month if you need to.
11. Quit investing
Here’s the thing: paying down debt gets you a guaranteed return (in the form of interest you no longer have to pay), and that return is almost always more than you’d earn on the stock market and always more than you get from a savings account. (28)
Drop the investments for now and put any savings in excess of your small emergency fund toward being debt-free. Not only that, but consider selling some investments and putting the proceeds towards your debt.
10. Become a digital nomad
It’s no secret that I think working from home is the future, and I’m not alone. (Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Fast Company all agree). (29)
“Digital nomads” have traded in the 9-5 for a digital career that lets them roam the globe while they rake in cash. Aside from the obvious perks – from showing up at the “office” in your swim trunks to your “office” being a tropical island – you can also save tons of money by living somewhere cheap. The cost of living in Thailand is half what it is in the United States. Think about it. (30)
9. Gig economy jobs
Drive for Uber, doing odd jobs on TaskRabbit, shop for people with Shipt, you get the idea. These aren’t the most glamorous ways to make some extra cash, but money’s money and these jobs aren’t too hard to sign up for.
8. Teach a skill for pay
Monetize a skill you have by teaching others how to do it. Know how to play the guitar? Give private lessons. Excellent at a language? Find a language tutoring site and sign up to tutor others.
Even better, make an online course or eBook that teaches your skill for some passive income. Just make sure the content is actually useful.
7. SEO consulting
If you can learn a thing or two about SEO and find a company that would like to improve their SEO (every company), you can rake in enough side money to be out of debt asap. Entry-level SEO Consultants make about $50,000-$60,000/year…with no experience. (31)
6. Be a Virtual Assistant
If you don’t have time to learn technical skills, Virtual Assistants can make money doing any odd job that remote workers need help with, from making phone calls to making Pinterest boards. Find gigs on Upwork – according to them, Virtual Assistants are one of the fastest-growing freelance positions. (32)
5. Content writing
Can you put together a well-written sentence? Know how to capture an audience with some well-crafted words?
Content is still king, and writing it pays well too because you can’t outsource it to just anyone (we see you, wannabe internet companies trying to get away with hiring amateur Malaysian teens to write your blog).
Freelance writers can make anywhere from $30 to $70 an hour. (33)
4. Facebook ads
There are over 25 million businesses using Facebook to market themselves. (34) That’s 25 million potential clients if you know how to run a successful Facebook ad campaign because many business owners are completely clueless when it comes to social media.
Brush up your skills and start offering to do Facebook ads consulting to small businesses in your area.
3. Open an e-Commerce shop
If you want to reel in the side money, this one takes some time to build up, but it’s passive, which you know I love. E-commerce is projected to make up about 13% of all sales this year, and it’ll be up to 17% just 5 years from now. (35)
Make something and sell it. Even better, find yourself a dropshipper and cut out most of the work. Either way, get a piece of that pie.
2. Learn to code
The national average salary for a computer programmer is $84,360. (36)
Combine that with the fact that this job is 100% digital, and you’ve got a recipe for success. Imagine living on a Caribbean island where you can live comfortably on $1,200/month while you’re raking in $7,000/month. Your debt will be gone in no time.
1. Provide leads online for local businesses
Nothing out there beats raking in hot leads for local businesses. You might as well be handing over stacks of cash to these companies, so trust me when I say this: small businesses pay good money for leads.
Plus, local lead generation hits the money-making trifecta: it’s remote, scalable, and automatable. Plus, you’re cutting down on the competition by focusing on local areas.
TBH, it doesn’t really matter whether you stack your debt, snowball your debt, avalanche your debt or any other fancy terms that basically just mean paying off your debt.
Unless you want to spend the next 50 years of your life picking away at a mountain of debt with a toothpick, you need to do more than stop buying pumpkin spice lattes. You need to increase your earnings fast… local lead generation is your bulldozer.

Money at 30: Aspiration Online-Only Bank Review
There was once a time when I thought perhaps I had too many bank accounts. Yet, since then, I’ve only found more attractive accounts to open. One of the latest additions to my roster is Aspiration, where I opened up an account at the end of last year.
As luck would have it, before I had a chance to test all of the features of Aspiration, they made some sizeable changes. So were these changes for the better? And how do Aspiration’s other features stack up against various Internet banking offerings? Let’s take a closer look at what Aspiration has to offer customers and what makes them stand out in the increasingly crowded field of online-only banks.
What is Aspiration?
Aspiration is an online bank with some high, well, aspirations. With taglines such as “Do Well. Do Good.” and “Save Money, Save the Planet,” the company puts as much of an emphasis on charity and ecological impact as it does on personal finance health. In fact humanitarian and Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DeCaprio is among Aspiration’s investors.
There are many areas where Aspiration’s Earth-saving endeavors shine through, such as their Redwood Fund and Redwood IRA products that promote sustainable investing. Additionally the bank donates to various causes and makes it easy for its customers to do the same. However, for the rest of this review, we’ll be looking specifically at Aspiration’s banking features and how they compare to other offerings.
Recent changes
Earlier this year, Aspiration announced it was changing a few things about their accounts. For one, instead of a single account they dubbed “Aspiration Summit,” the bank created Aspiration Spend and Aspiration Save accounts. The biggest positive to this change was that the bank doubled its APY from 1% to 2%. However, to earn this interest, funds would first need to be placed into the Save account. Additionally customers must deposit at least $1 a month into any of their Aspiration accounts (or have a balance of at least $10,000 or higher for a minimum of one day per month) in order to earn to that 2% APY. Failing to do so will, sadly, result in a 0% interest rate for the month.
To their credit, Aspiration has been very accommodating with this change. For example current users like myself were able to keep their current debit cards. Also, realizing that some users may not have been aware that they needed to move funds to their Save account to earn interest, Aspiration actually gave users 1% on their Spend balance in addition to the 2% on Save funds. Presumably this was a one-time thing but it was certainly a nice gesture. I also appreciate that Aspiration has sent reminder e-mails nudging me to make my monthly transfer and score that 2% APY.
What’s Good About Aspiration
FDIC-insured
Before we go any further, rest assured that deposits to Aspiration are FDIC insured up to $250,000 per depositor just like any other bank. Enough said.
“Pay What is Fair”
Aspiration doesn’t charge many of the fees that traditional banks do. There’s no minimum balance fee, overdraft fees, maintenance fees, etc. Instead the bank asks its customers to sustain them by paying a monthly fee of their choosing — even if that amount is $0. Overall this is a good system that has the potential to save you money versus many brick-and-mortar banks.
Cash back on debit card purchases
Incidentally this is a feature of Aspiration I have yet to use but is definitely worth discussing. Along with the other recent changes to Aspiration accounts, debit card purchases now yield cardholders cash back. That’s already exciting but the way they determine your level of cash back is pretty fascinating.
The bank has developed its Aspiration Impact Measurement (AIM) that evaluates “how a business treats People (employees, customers and community) and the Planet (environment).” If you use your debit card to make a purchase at an establishment with a high AIM score, you’ll earn 1% cash back. In the event the business has a lower AIM score or has yet to be evaluated by Aspiration, you’ll earn 0.5% cash back on your purchase. From what I can find, it’s unclear what constitutes a high or a low score and, like I said, I have yet to experience this myself. Nevertheless cash back is always a good thing.
High APYs
As mentioned earlier, Aspiration recently doubled the amount of interest it pays and is now offering 2% APY on savings. That may not be the highest you can find but it’s still strong. Interest is paid on account balances monthly, allowing some of that sweet, sweet compounding to occur. Considering I joined Aspiration for the combination of 1% APY and the next feature we’re going to discuss, having that interest rate double to 2% makes this banking option even better.
ATM fee reimbursement — even international
Last but not least, Aspiration boasts that it allows its customers to use any ATM in the world for free. No, this isn’t the result of some massive partnerships that span the globe. Instead it just means that the company will reimburse any fees you may incur for using an ATM domestically or abroad.
On my recent trip to Hong Kong I got to try out Aspiration’s ATM fee refund first hand. I have to say I was a bit worried as I approached the Bank of China ATM at the Hong Kong Airport, Aspiration card in hand. Truth be told, I was depending on the card to work as I required cash to take a cab to my hotel. Thankfully, after entering my card, typing my pin, and opting into any fees I might incur (and that Aspiration would hopefully cover), I was able to walk away with $200HKD in hand.
Fairly soon after this transaction, I could see it pending on my account — except it was converted to the sum of $25.53. That’s actually what Google says the conversion should be, so it didn’t seem as though any fee had been applied. Nevertheless, a few days later, a $4.00 credit for “Int’l ATM Fee Rebate” appeared in my account. At first I thought this $4 credit was just a note reversing a separate fee I hadn’t seen but, running the math, it would seem that it actually added $4 to my account. I used ATMs twice more while in Hong Kong, netting similar results.
Looking into this further, I found that Aspiration’s help center notes “International ATM fees are reimbursed at a flat rate of $4.00 per transaction.” They add that, if you’re charged more than $4, you can submit a photo of your receipt to receive full reimbursement. However, in my case, evidence would suggest I was never actually charged an ATM fee and, instead, earned $4 just for taking out money. Now, I have to say that this was not my intention nor do I condone taking advantage of the apparent loophole… but there it is. In any case, my overseas ATM experience — one of the main reasons I was attracted to Aspiration — was quite a success.
The Downsides of Aspiration
About that monthly fee
In the “What’s Good About Aspiration” section, I explained the institution’s Pay What is Fair fee policy. While it’s true that you can elect to set this fee to $0, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Heck, I felt bad enough reducing their initial $5 a month fee recommendation to the $1 I landed on. But here’s the thing: there are other online banks that offer near what Aspiration does that don’t charge any fees and don’t even ask for voluntary payment. I suspect I’m not the only one paying a higher fee to Aspiration than they otherwise would just because of guilt, making this a slight negative to the service. Then again, Aspiration does gives 10% of these fees to charity, so now I’m back to feeling bad that I even wrote this!
P.S. — whether you’re feeling more generous or decide it’s time to lower your fee, you can always do so by going into Settings > Fee Settings and adjusting from there.
Slow transfers
I’m not sure if I’m just impatient but it seems that external transfers to Aspiration take a bit longer than normal. Perhaps that’s because they don’t even display as pending in your account (you’ll have to hit the “transfers” tab to see it, assuming you initiated the transfer from Aspiration itself). This has led to a couple of times where I worried that something was wrong. Of course this fear was only compounded when I got an e-mail from the bank saying one of the transfers I launched had failed. It turns out that was just a glitch that affected a few customers around the time of the big Save and Spend split, but it only made this speed issue more evident.
Few balance details
Earlier I noted that I wasn’t sure if the $4 ATM fee credits I was receiving were extra money or just leveling me out from a charge I didn’t see. Well part of the reason for the confusion is that Aspiration doesn’t display all of the balance data that other banks would. As far as I can tell, there’s no way to view a running total of how transactions affected your balance. Because of this, I simply had to go all the way back in my transactions, total them up one by one, and see if my math mirrored my current balance (it did, which is how I know those $4 credits were extra money). Eventually I did find where you can download a monthly account statement in Settings, although this wasn’t terribly helpful either.
Quite honestly, since I’m using Aspiration more as a place to stash extra cash and really only use the debit card for ATM access, these quirks aren’t a huge deal. However I could easily see this being a problem for those who intend on using their accounts full time.
No joint accounts
When I opened my Aspiration account, my intent was to make it a joint account by adding my wife. Unforunately it seems no such options exists. Lest you think that adding a  “Trusted Contact” will do the trick, the bank advises it is not a beneficiary but, instead, a “person we will contact in the event you are unreachable when action must be taken on your account.” What’s really odd is that, in account info, there’s a section that says “Account Owners” — yes, there’s a plural!
Poking around online, it seems that Aspiration is working to introduce joint accounts. That said it also appears that they’ve been declaring that for a while. Their latest timeline according to replies on Twitter in March 2019 is “Definitely not longer than a year!”
Final Thoughts on Aspiration
There’s clearly a good reason why Aspiration has been getting so much publicity as of late. In addition to their unique business model and humanitarian efforts, they also offer a number of banking features that can help customers save money. Personally the 2% APY on savings coupled with free ATM access anywhere in the world is enough for me to sing its praises.
At the same time I do wish a little more attentional to detail went into Aspiration’s interface. Their stripped down balance and transaction dashboard could be frustrating for those looking for a blow by blow recap, while slow transfers can cause anxiety when you’re chasing that 2% interest. I’m also still waiting for the day when I can finally add my wife to the account, making it easier for her to contribute as well.
Overall what Aspiration offers is more than enough for me to maintain my account alongside my Discover Bank account and others. Furthermore I suspect that those looking to really make an impact with their money will flock to the online alternative to the “too big to fail” banks. For all of those reasons, I’d say it’s definitely worth setting your sights on Aspiration.

Where can I find classic car insurance for a 17 year old?
Hey guys I've recently received a classic 1992 Mazda Miata from my dad, which has been a treasured possession of our family for a number of years. So as a 16 year old male driver, I'm aware that car insurance rates for me are significantly higher than a same age female driver, just because of my gender. How are insurance companies able to do this, no matter how many statistics they have saying we crash more, speed more often, ect...? I heard rates were going down, and AAA quoted me a rate of nearly $1200 for earthquake coverage- there is 75,000 deductible, and they will cover up to $525,000 to rebuild. What is the consensus on this issue?""
Is the maintenance/insurance costs on a 1998 Porsche Boxster expensive? Is it more expensive than a Corolla?
Would my maintenance costs go way up if I trade in my 2000 Toyota Corolla for a 1998 Porsche Boxster? Would my insurance costs go way up if I trade in my 2000 Toyota Corolla for a 1998 Porsche Boxster? I only have an additional $1000 per year to pay for any additional costs, would this be enough to cover the extra insurance and maintenance costs of an old used Porsche Boxster, one that seems to need quite a lot of mechanical work done at a Porsche dealer, compared to my old and flawless Toyota Corolla? Are Porsche dealers really expensive or is that just a myth? I drive a 2000 Toyota Corolla and over the years I change my own oils, my own fluids, and have only taken it in twice for tire alignments, that's it. The costs are extremely low. Now I see a 1998 Porsche Boxster for sale, with a slightly leaky engine and a Balking automatic transmission for sale. I would like to have fun and buy it, but I cannot afford any more than about $1000 per year in maintenance costs. Also, my insurance on the Corolla is dirt cheap, and I don't want to pay that much more when I get the Boxster, i don't want any surprises. What do you think? For a person with very limited resources, Should I keep my trusty old Corolla, or get the Boxster?""

I'm getting a Suzuki DR200SE and I want to know how much insurance would cost...?
I'm 14 and I'm going to get this bike. It's legal for me to drive off road (trails) but if I wanted to drive on road I would have to get my license (16 months time). The reason I want this bike is because when I am 16 it's 50 miles a gallon, and for a small bike it goes highway speed. I understand that because I'm under 25 that it's going to be a lot and I don't own a credit card so I don't have bad credit. I would just like to know how much per year that it would cost. Because if it's a lot I'm going to buy an old junker that's been sitting in my step dad's driveway for a few years.""

Emancipated 16 year old car insurance help?
I am currently living with my parents and am soon to be emancipated. I was looking at some geico quotes, turned out for minimal coverage was 475$ per month. This was outragous and obviously way to much for any one to be able to afford. To have the type of coverage i would like was 10,000$ per year, the numbers were staggering. Anyway my question is it possible to get insurance at 16 years old on your own for a resonable price. If so with what car insurance company. I have a 3.0 and a perfect driving record, i do drive a camero z28 so i understand its going to be a little higher than average....""

Health insurance?
Dear friends, I was an international student in the past spring semester and my health insurance is still valid until the end of this summer. Thankfully I have not used my insurance at all and I was wondering if you my friends could give me any smart ideas on how I may be able to get the most out of my health insurance before it expires? I assume there would be no refund to me from the insurance company even if I have not had a single claim on it. I paid almost 500$ for it and that kinda hurts to see it is going to expire soon and you have not benefited from it at all! Hope you understand and thank you very much in advance for your smart ideas and any advice or information you could give, warm regards, Rojin""

""Car Accident, how much should I expect from their insurance company?""
I was just in a car accident on Thursday. Its basically totalled my car. Two weeks before the accident, I just put $2345 into the transmission, $500 2 weeks before that, and another $500 about a month before that. Thats not to mention the $1000 I put in in 2006. It was a troubled car but with the transmission fixed, it should have been perfect. The other car hit me. I really was at no fault but the other car is a company car. The people driving don't own it. They also don't seem to be American Citizens. Here's my damage, Broken Axels, my tires leaning into the car dramatically, my tire is ripped, the driver door doesn't open, blinker is gone, just severely damage to the quarter panel, ETC I did have some injury, a seat belt burn, back and neck pain. What can I expect from the insurance company? Will they take into account the recent expensive work done on the car? Any ideas? A guess? I had a 99' Hyundai Elantra - now I have scrap metal.""

Question about car insurance.?
my dad has never been in a car accident or anything of the sort. 4 months ago we got a 2005 dodge ram rumble bee. i was really confident about my driving. but today i was exiting on a freeway and the car in front of me stepped on the brake real hard and i had no choice but to swerve outside the lane. i didnt hit anything else but the bottom of the front bumper kinda got wrecked and bent. i didnt hit the car in front of me or anyone else and i gained control of the truck and slowly got back on the lane. so if my dad reports it to the insurance how much will it go up?? he told me not to speak of this to anyone and he was gonna say it was him that it happened to. please help. what if i replace the bumper and dont report it? should i even report it?

Should iclaim through the car insurance?
My mother in law was driving my wifes car on our insurance pollicy. She was hit on the passenger side of the car and puched in to the roundabout by the cab on a 14 wheller. MY mother in law was not to blame as the lorry was in the wrong lane and there are witnesses who saw the accident. The car is a 1996 renault clio and there is some heavy denting and scratches on the passenger door and front wing. Nothing that has effected the driveability of the car to my knowledge. since the car was pushed up over the kerb and on to the roundabout it could have knocked the tracking a little. I dont know how much it will be to repair but the car is only worth about 600 and the insurance policy on this car has an excess of 350 cause it was the named driver who was driving and not my wife. There also is no protected no claims bonus. If i was to put this claim through the insurance how would this effect the pocket and the no blaims bonus.

Pre-Existing Conditions health insurance...?
I've had epilepsy since I was 5 years old, I'm now 24. I came across a comment on a website a few minutes ago about there being some kind of federal law where it's ILLEGAL to deny someone coverage because they may be in poor health, overweight, etc... aka having a pre-existing condition . If this is true about there being a law AGAINST it, why are SO MANY health insurance companies allowed to deny people w/ pre-existing conditions right off the bat? There are THOUSAND upon thousands, if not MILLIONS, of people in the U.S that have some kind of pre-existing condition, whether minor or major. So wouldn't that mean that there are THOUSANDS of insurance companies that are running their business illegally & breaking the law? I mean, breaking a state law is one thing, but a FEDERAL law is a pretty big deal!! Washington makes such a big deal about how so many people in our country don't have health insurance & they say it's because people can't afford it . But I think the REAL reason is that because MOST of those people have a pre-existing condition & they're getting thrown to the curb because of it... Comments on this???""
