a/n: idk why but this song honestly screams charles to me whenever i hear it, so i just had to make it happen. also this was supposed to be posted on my one year f1-aversary as celebration (well technically it should be more if counting my childhood f1 years but anyway), but i was so caught up in another wip that i couldn't do it. so happy anniversary to me and f1 (two weeks late) with this lil ficlet <3 thankful for all that f1 gave me.

Charles spends a whole afternoon trying to convince her to have a night out with her friends. Just because they're in a relationship doesn't mean they can't have fun without the other as well from time to time. There are still a couple of weeks left of winter break, plenty of opportunity to spend time just the two of them before the season starts again. So the usual point of view, the usual reasoning doesn't stand a chance – that they should spend as much time together as they can, before he's back to travelling all around the world.

"Go to a club, grab some drinks, dance and laugh the night away", he tells her. The usual bestie coffee dates or walks in the park that she usually raises as argument are not the same as a night out, and she hasn't done that for so long now. Definitely not since he's been back home, and he knows just how much she enjoys dancing her heart out.

(y/n) agrees after a short while, accepting his reasons, knowing full well that he's right, and after a few phone calls she starts getting ready, soon walking out the front door, dressed all pretty and dolled up.

Doesn't take long before Charles realises what he's done. A feeling tingles in his chest, one he recognises swiftly. He's miserable. Solely because she's not there by his side, as he makes dinner, eats it – all by himself –, before settling on the couch to occupy himself with a movie. It doesn't matter though, he doesn't pay any attention to it. He doesn't even know what's going on, he hasn't heard a single line, too busy thinking about her.

When the credits start to roll, he switches the TV off with a surprised look in his eyes – how did it already end? He doesn't even remember the first scene ending. Then he moves into the bathroom to do his night routine, from taking a shower to putting on some skincare products, all the while wondering how long she will be out for? Will she come home soon? Hope tingles in his chest that the answer to his question is yes.

Having finished with everything, Charles lies down in bed, trying to read a book, then scrolling on social media, doing anything to keep his mind from straying over and over again back to her. He knows this is stupid, he was the one telling her to go out, why is he like this now? Lying awake on his side of the bed, the fingers on his right hand tracing figures onto the sheet where her body usually rests.

This is pathetic, Charles thinks. He never thought he would be like this, so miserable and impatient just because she's not at home, with him. He's tossing around, unable to find a comfortable position for himself – it seems like he forgot how to sleep without her. No matter how many times he's had to do just that, in hotel rooms all around the world. The past few weeks erased all those nights from his mind.

The delicious scent of her shampoo fills his lungs when his face lands just a bit too close to her pillow, and all of a sudden it's like he's burying his nose in her hair. It only makes him miss her more. Sleeping is impossible, he knows it now. He's only daydreaming, not actually dreaming, of her arriving home and being in his arms again.

Charles imagines the way she dances in the middle of the floor, her hands in the air, shouting the lyrics loudly to the song currently playing – most probably something she knows and loves –, and he can't help but smile fondly. Just the thought of her having fun is enough to make him happier, even in his misery.

He pictures a scene where a random guy tries to get too close to her, as it has happened so many times, whenever he leaves her alone for a few minutes at any club they've been to. It doesn't matter where they are, doesn't matter if they spent the night so far together, all over each other, someone comes into the picture immediately when he leaves, either to grab a drink for the two of them, or to go to the restrooms.

It's not like he doesn't understand those guys. She's simply gorgeous, and radiates such a vibrant aura that everyone is drawn to her. He honestly just finds it funny at this point. Nothing makes these men back off more effectively than her. Oh, the amount of times he bit back laughter watching the scene unfold from a distance. Seeing men crumble and disappear looking all ashamed, what a sight that is. And he doesn't have to do anything.

He wonders how many times she's had to fight off guys so far tonight, with him not even in the club, and he finds he can't wait to hear all her stories of the newest victims. Pierre never understood why Charles found it so amusing, he didn't seem to get it. The trust they have in each other. Knowing that it's him she'll come home to at the end of the night is enough to make him only feel entertained by each instance, and not irritated at the slightest bit.

But thinking about (y/n) fighting off men is only good enough entertainment for a limited amount of time, and soon the smile fades back into a miserable pout on his lips, as his thoughts turn back into ones of impatience, trying to make time move faster with short little prayers falling as mumbles from his lips.

With a sigh, he eventually sits up, looking around to find something he can do. At last he decides on grabbing a drink himself, maybe it will help stop the flow of thoughts racing in his head. A little welcomed dullness.

He takes a seat at the kitchen table, sipping on the liquid in his glass, enjoying the feeling of the light alcohol gently burning his throat on the way down, numbing his tongue along the way. His fingers stay restless, now drumming on the wooden surface. A few minutes later he realises they play a song, soundless except the soft thud of his fingertips with the occasional louder tap or little scratch of his nails when a finger finds a different angle to hit the table with.

A melody appears in his mind as he watches his fingers move, imagining how it would sound if it was his piano instead of the kitchen table. He would go sit at the beautiful, white instrument and try it, but he doesn't want to be so loud at such a late hour. And anyway, he's way too comfortable sitting where he is to stand up and go somewhere else.

He looks out the window, catching sight of the moon – almost full, just a tiny bit of it missing, and Charles examines the craters that are visible to the naked eye, though only as spots of a darker shade on the round shape.

Maybe he'll name this new musical piece that's being born in his head right now after her – well, if he ever finishes it. He'll keep the usual format, three letters of a city name and a date, only this time putting the time and place of when they first met. Or should it be the time and place of when he first asked her out? Or their first date? Or when she agreed to move in with him? God, there are way too many options to choose from. He decides to put this problem aside for now, he's not in a rush to name a song not even written yet.

As the clock on the oven changes all four numbers to display 2am, the action rouses his attention and makes him tear his eyes away from the moon and look at the numbers instead.

He would've never ever thought that he'd be like this.

Raising his glass he notices that there's only a small sip left in it, which he downs in a short moment. His tongue darts out to gather all the minuscule drops that might rest on his lips still, not wanting to waste even that much of the delicious drink. Then he stands up, placing the glass down into the sink, making a mental note to clean it in the morning before (y/n) wakes up.

Just as he ponders putting another movie on, maybe only as background noise if nothing else, his phone buzzes in the pocket of his pants. Taking his time, Charles pulls the device out, expecting nothing more than a useless notification from a social media app he shouldn't spend so much time on anyway.

Instead what he finds is a text. From her.

Charles lets out a relieved sigh, his lips involuntarily curving into a smile, one that you could almost call giddy. It's not just the thought that she's going to be here soon, but the fact that she remembered to text him to let him know. He's in her mind, just like she's in his, even though she's been out with friends, having fun, drinking, while he's only been at home, all alone with his misery.

Now he can move back to bed happily, knowing that shortly she will join him.

It truly doesn't take long until Charles hears the front door creak as it opens, then the familiar jingle of her keys hitting the drawer in the hall, and his heart flutters with happiness. Finally. The high heels she chose to wear hit the floor with a soft thud as she presumably removes them, and the growing anticipation in his body seems to eat him whole.

Her steps grow louder and louder as she moves closer to the bedroom, and time slows for Charles. He watches in slow motion as she appears in the doorframe, being propped up on his elbows to have a better view, a lazy smile curling onto his face, and his eyes lidded with drowsiness.

"You're still awake?" (y/n) giggles, pausing in her steps for a second as her eyes take in the view he provides lying there. His lack of reply to her text made her think he's already fallen asleep.

"Of course," he mumbles. "Come to bed."

His voice is whiny and he behaves like an actual child, he knows, but he can't help it. He wants to sleep, and he wants to sleep beside her, feeling her warmth against his skin. That's the only way he can.

"Let me get changed first," she starts towards the closet, when a grunt of pure displeasure sounds from him along with the thump of his back as he falls into a lying position once more, making her glance back at her boyfriend. "What, can't wait a single minute?"

"No," he protests, pouting . "I've been waiting for hours."

His accent comes forth stronger when he's sleepy, and she can't help but smile adoringly upon hearing it. He's just so cute.

"Okay, fine, you'll get one kiss," she gives in. Charles resembles a lost puppy and she's sure he knows that's her weakness. She can't ever say no to anything when he looks like that.

So that's how she finds herself crawling into bed, trying to get as close as possible to the boy without causing damage to her dress. He grins, as much as his tired facial muscles allow, awaiting her lips touching his own. His pout becomes even more apparent, right until the moment he finally gets what he wants. His goodnight kiss. It's soft, slow and just so full of love it makes both their hearts flutter.

Then she caresses his cheek gently, whispering a barely audible good night, sleep tight to him, before moving back off the bed to disappear in the closet, leaving Charles to think about how he'd happily convince her again of going out if it means she'll come home to him, looking so radiant, properly buzzing with energy, eyes shining, hair messy but still looking so breathtaking. It's obvious how much it meant to her that she had this night out. He made her happy with telling her to go out with her friends, and he didn't regret it, despite all the miserable hours.

By the time she finishes her night routine and walks back into the bedroom once more, he's fast asleep, quiet snores filling the silence of the room. She bites into her bottom lip to keep in the giggle threatening to burst out, and with a heart full of adoration and a head slightly dizzy from the drinks she's had, she gets in bed beside him, snuggling up close to him, revelling in the feeling of his arms instinctively finding their way around her body even when he's sleeping.

He truly only waited for her to come home and give him a goodnight kiss to finally be able to fall asleep.

19 !! Wow that feels like a lot to me although it’s nothing compared to phnelt.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

I checked this one recently: 903,861 since 2022 this doesn’t even count the writing I’ve done on my original novel. It’s crazy to think I’d never write again and now I’m almost at 1 million words

3, What fandoms do you write for?

Young Royals. Something about this Swedish show inspired me to write again I’ll never be able to express how grateful I am for that either

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Footprints, AINE, all the places, HMLYLM, Us Against The World (RIP)

5. Do you respond to comments?

Comments are so so so so important to me. I try to reply to everyone but I’m very slow and it usually takes a while for me to get to everyone. I have like AO3 paralysis for like a week or two after posting a new chapter where I get anxious going on the website lol so I tend to start replying later but I’m trying to get to everyone! I promise 💕

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Good Luck Babe. Yeah that one was rough. Really rough.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Maybe AINE? Or all the places? They both had pretty good endings with the characters in really good places in their lives. Footprints never really felt like a happy happy ending bc they still have so much shit to deal with waiting for them.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Super rarely, usually it’s just people being annoyed or frustrated at how long I’m taking to update lolol

9. Do you write smut?

Yes. Actually I have a lot of thoughts on my particular use of smut. This obvs is just my preference for my own stories but usually I plan smut scenes for specific moments in stories that need them to either move the plot forward or give us a glimpse into the characters mindset or to change their mindset or make them realize something.

I always try to use them in very specific ways with a lot of intent behind them. When I’m planning I always double check if I need the scene, if it could be stronger some other way or if it’s superfluous. I feel like that’s why they tend to be really information attack of info and emotions bc there is alot that needs to be conveyed.

This last chp of hmlylm had such a long ass smut scene in it. Those scenes are so hard for me to write bc it’s just so much action!! It gets so tiresome. I wrote it and didn’t look at it again once until I was going through the notes phnelt had made on the doc before I uploaded it.

I’ve actually never written pwp but maybe one day I try that lol I’m just really bad at coming up with ideas to make smut feel fresh or new so maybe I need to take requests.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Uhhhhh I could? I once had a crazy idea for a gåsmamman/yr crossover lol but maybe technically I have bc I wrote a Spider-Man wilmon au.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Fic? No. A whole scene from a fic yes 😭😭😭 the person apologized and all but I remember being freaked out that my stuff had gotten AI scraped and then when it turned out to just be a teenager it was a relief kinda.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No. Pod ficced yes but not translated to my knowledge.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes! Grasping at Shadows, Good Luck Babe ofc and I was in a huge fic collab that had such a fun start but kinda died 😭😭 in Unlabeled.

14. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Honestly I’d love to continue working on unlabeled bc it was such a cool idea but I don’t think it will happen bc a lot of reasons beyond my control

15. What are your writing strengths?

I don’t know lol tbh listening to other writers who have a really hard time with dialogue I guess that? Only because I find it very easy to write, I usually start with the dialogue for most scenes and I don’t usually ever need to go back and change it. Idk if my dialogue is good but I don’t have a hard time writing it.

16, What are your writing weaknesses?

Weaknesses I think are inability to shorten things haha writing almost always out of order so it takes me forever to knit things back together, remembering continuity stuff, lots of grammar fuck ups and run ons and being to tired and overwhelmed to fix them lol

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Considering I was introduced to fanfiction bc of anime I’m used to it. I feel like there’s ways to make it sound more natural than others and sometimes it just makes ✨sense✨ for the scene or the character but I have read some that does give me hives too. Idk I’m sure I’ve been guilty of giving someone hives while reading my fic so it’s all good.

18. First fandom you wrote for?

I watched Banana Fish and the ending made me so mad I wrote a fix it alternate ending and that was the first fic I ever finished and published on Ao3

19. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Gonna be honest the spiderwilmon fic lol grasping at shadows bc it was so fun to write and honestly the chapter I wrote for unlabeled I think might be some of my favorite writing I’ve ever done. It’s interesting bc all of those things aren’t necessarily things I would jump to read but I just loved writing them and they were just fun to create and live in,

As You Wish - by @haha-funny-valentine 2.5k, T, Post-Star Plasma Arc, Emotional H/C wonderful characterization here and I am just such a sucker for H/C.

The Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom - by @zombieheroine 16.3k, T, Prison Realm Gojo Character Study I took my skin off to check and I am shocked that this fic is not like, Doing Numbers. this fic is SO fucking creative and unique and I just. love. it. Definitely a big inspiration for FIYM. It's like Harrow the Ninth but for Gojo in the Prison Realm and like, oh my god so well done imo.

Longfic Recs with Caveats

and if you take my hand (series) - by @detta-pica 40k (Ongoing), T, Witch AU, Slow Burn Caveat: this is a WIP, and we're in the early part so very much Unresolved Romantic Tension. But I really like the worldbuilding in this and I'm excited to follow it as it keeps going, so big rec here if you like Plot and are down to follow some more ongoing fics. :)

coanda effect - by @bunniehoneys 250k, M, F1 AU, Slow Burn, Eating Disorders, Drugs, Bad Choices I am probably the last person in the world to read this fic so it feels silly to rec, but I'm doing it anyway because I'm a little obsessed. Caveat 1: also technically a WIP for another week or two

Caveat 2: TAGS check the tags. If you are at all sensitive to discussion of EDs, skip this fic, but I think it's done well and adds a lot to the characterization

Caveat 3: I am not caught up on this fic. it's one that I didn't let myself read for a while (see below) but F1 has a special place in my heart (my dad is into it, I used to live in a Gran Prix city, and I have watched WAY too much F1 Lets Play content).

I've been working really shitty hours for the past 48 hours (almost done) due to research that requires specific spans of real earth time. Because I don't have the focus to write right now, I've had the chance to read a little, and I've read about 75% of this gargantuan fic in windowless rooms on my phone, which has to say something about how much I love it lmao.

Disclaimer: I am a bad source of stsg fics because I actually don't read very many. If I read amazing fic then it tends to trigger the "you will never be as good as the old masters" part of the brain, although instead of real art like in the meme, my fic is putting gojo in a minecraft hoodie and making him do the gangnam style dance. Still.

I also get very unhealthy about metrics/numbers, which I mostly manage by using AO3 skins to block stats, but I still have some moments of weakness. So I try to avoid looking at stuff that I know might make me anxious/insecure about my own works and be unable to finish them (this has unfortunately happened to me before in the FE3H fandom, and that continues to weigh on me).

All that to say, there are some really big, nice, and well-loved fics by wonderful authors currently being updated, and I have read almost none of them. So this is absolutely not me saying I don't like their characterizations, I'm just kind of a hermit.

i've been considering doing an AJ au but then i found out that AJC and AJPW are somehow connected and it confused me so I considered rebuilding my au lore from the ground up but then i was wondering if it was doing too much and if i should just make sense of canon i'd like some advice ^w^'

In my personal opinion, I think aus are somewhat meant to be a lot of things; whether it's changing the main story line almost entirely or adding things that you want in there to help the canon out a little. There's not really a right or wrong, as long as it stays true to the canon somehow. Okay let's yap

For example, you could literally go off the canon story entirely and base a whole oc around that canon world, just make sure for others who might wanna look into it know it's still that canon world!

For animal jam however, it's a bit more hard, but it gets easy! Then hard again— it's like a rollercoaster with barely any stops

For my au, P&F, it's a mix of both animal jam worlds (classic and play wild) because even if they're both separate and sometimes the same, they're technically more different than anything story ish wise

But I manage to combine certain elements from each game, making what I truly want from it

But it can't stay like that forever sometimes if the story gets officially updated or adds something that might ruin a plot in your story. So don't really be afraid to make changes if you're wanting to stick with more updated AJ content

Another thing I do for my au is to establish certain characters, events, and most pop-out stories I find intriguing!

I can't say much about this one since my au is still technically a WIP but it's out there.. :]

But anyways, if you're gonna go with what I do, which is use most of the canon story lines and combine it into one just with a pinch of more creativity and some original stuff, I would suggest developing the canon characters and their settings

Depending on what you wanna make for your au, the canon character could have more personality then it's original

I will have to admit, I have done that with some but I keep it close to what their personality is as possible

What I also like to add to canon characters is their own story! Especially for animal jam when you don't really get the right answers.

A good example of what I mean is Greely's adopted family!

It's not much, it barely impacts the story for Jamaa, but it impacts him and his choices later on when he grows :] which is always fun to do!

Let's see... Another thing to help get an au going is by looking at things that would inspire you!

Like other people's aus, songs, even books, hell even the canon stuff might help out!

There is a lot of "canon" animal jam stuff that a lot of people don't really know about like the comics and books for animal jam!

And yeah, there's not a lot of animal jam aus but I have seen some around here and there! Best ones I would look into art pieces for is @bootleggreely , @prztails , and @vioblu-star, they're all really cool artists with interesting stories for animal jam stuff :]

(probably forgetting a whole bunch but yet I wrote this at like 2 am)

Then there's music/songs, the reason why I mentioned such is because it helps me create a scenario in my head when I listen to them! It even help me discover some new ideas I barely knew I could develop!

Another thing to keep in mind is that you don't really have to go all the way with aus, take your time!! It helps a lot, even when you feel stressed over it. Take breaks, you don't always need to focus on animal jam stuff for the au! You don't even need to make a whole book for it, you can just do what I most of the time do and just draw out stuff you like from your stories so far! Even if people don't know the full context!!

Change is always good too! Let me tell you, when I was younger in my animal jam little brain, I had such a mess of a story, now look where it is now! A bit better!

But let's give little me around of applause for predicting Moku'ahi 👏 (this thought still scars me)

Ooo and another thing, if you ever feel doubt in yourself with writing for the au, don't worry about it! You're doing great, but if you want a second opinion or two, ask for it! I'm sure people around you would provide answers if they know animal jam and care about some of the story :] it's always okay to ask for help! Don't be like me who hides in the corner and just writes and draws a lot 🌟

At the end of the day, this is your au, your story, your art pieces, your fun

1. How many works on AO3?

27! it doesn't sound like many but as someone who has tried time and time again to get into writing fics and given up, I'm really happy that I've gotten to this number! I've orphaned a couple and deleted one, and I also have a oneshot book which technically could've added more to the number though :'D

2. Total AO3 Word Count?

262,703 words!!! that's wildd, what's even wilder is 180k of those words are all one fic, a fic that is 3/5 done! 😭

3. Top 5 fics by Kudos

We Were Younger - 282 kudos a derailed hike - 138 kudos you can't fall in love at a Walmart - 134 kudos Love Conquers All - 82 kudos an impromptu bus ride to reconciliation - 66 kudos

4. What fandoms do you write for?

mostly ride the cyclone! I do want to branch out and write for more fandoms, especially the next step and lost & found, I've only posted one fic for each (and one is still a wip) I gotta do some more! :D

5. Do you respond to comments?

normally yeah!! I always try to, sometimes I struggle to find things to say, especially if it's just 'yay an update!' or some variation of emojis or unhinged screaming lmao but if I get a compliment I'll always thank them!!

6. Angstiest Ending?

depends on what kind of angst really! one of my oneshots in my RTC oneshot book 'Surrender' literally ends with death but it isn't really written to be an angsty ending? angst doesn't feel like the right word for it, I would more describe it as dark but I guess technically that is the angstiest ending I've done

the ending of 'how dare you dare me to love you' fits 'angsty' better to me but the whole thing is angst so I don't know 😭

7. Fic with the Happiest Ending?

this one is hard as well, I feel like all of my fics end on a hopeful note or a bittersweet note I'm not very good at happy or angsty endings 😭

I think the happiest ending I've written is another oneshot from my RTC oneshot book 'a round of straight tequila' the ending is a very cute kiss scene and the whole oneshot is pure fluff :'D

8. Do you get hate?

nope! never gotten any hate before, I'm pretty sure the fics from when I was first starting in 2019 have a few comments poking fun, but I didn't get any when I was actively posting and I wouldn't call it hate. somehow I just seem to avoid it! I honestly have no idea how lmao

9. Do you write smut?

I do not! not much else to say about that lmao

10. Do you write crossovers?

haven't written one yet but I'm not opposed to the idea! generally I gravitate towards using one piece of media as an AU for another (like how we were younger is a life is strange AU) rather than making full crossovers but if I ever get an idea I'll give it a go :D

11. Ever had a fic stolen?

don't think so! pretty sure I've seen fics inspired by mine that didn't mention it but obviously I can't know for sure if they were inspired by me or not, and no one has ever literally copy paste stoled something as far as I know

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

nope!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic?

I haven't but I do want to one day! it's definitely a far in the future thing, I don't think I would be able to co-write something with someone who I'm not already good friends with because if I'm not fully comfortable with someone and we have to work together, I'm either gonna want to lead the whole thing or do what I'm told to do lmao 😭

there is one idea that I would love to co-write with someone and that's my girl meets world extended post-canon series - essentially writing extra seasons until they graduate college. it's a huge project that I definitely want to do at some point but I don't think I can pull it off alone. I think it would be really fun to work with someone on it someday :D

14. All time favourite ship?

this question is always really difficult because I never know how to measure a "favourite"

jeric from boy meets world is always my go-to answer because I have loved them for years, but I don't really spend much time on them? I've never written jeric before (I think I have a few lines of dialogue in a doc somewhere but that's it), I don't read jeric fics very often anymore and I don't post about them often - so can they still my favourite? I don't know!

15. WIPs you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

don't think I have any! I have all the time in the world to finish my WIPs, I have hope that I'll get around to all of them eventually :)

16. Writing strengths?

character analysis, anything full of symbolism and flowery language, and I think I'm pretty good at dialogue depending on the situation

17. Writing Weaknesses?

romance. literally, every time I write anything romantic it is a battle I have no idea what I'm fucking doing I'm just throwing shit at a doc and hoping for the best

also pacing and general plot progression I struggle with a lot

18. Thoughts on mixed language dialogue?

I like it! I do it quite a lot in my writing, especially soy luna

I feel a lot more comfortable writing soy luna fics that way because I obviously watched the whole show with them speaking spanish, I know their mannerisms and how they talk to each other in spanish so trying to translate that into english just reads really clunky and weird

I haven't really done it for ride the cyclone, I do add ukrainian in but it's not done in the same way, it's either a line of dialogue in ukrainian that Misha is saying in front of other characters who don't speak the language or Misha is using ukrainian terms of endearment for someone

20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?

it's gotta be We Were Younger, it's far from finished but it is absolutely some of the best writing I have ever done and I'm very proud of it :D

Does it describe something in their history instead? Do the linguistic roots help give an idea of the kind of cultures/clothes/food you'd find there? happy (belated) sts! this ask ended up getting done now because it was a long answer and so i couldn't finish it in one sitting when i first got this ask so eosdj thank you for asking sm and making my brain churn <3

i quite love etymology in general SO i totally get where you're coming from and i'm happy to answer for a few of the major places that i (currently) have in the extensive world of terrae :> (i was gonna do all of them but then these explanations started getting long asf and depression is turning my brain to shit lmaooooo) but, 2 caveats before i start rambling: (1) i've had this wip since i was 12, and this is relevant to my second point (2) as i've gotten older and continued to flesh out this story more and more i've kept some things the same (such as place names) and retroactively added explanations after as to why things are the way that they are lol. because of that, some of these won't be as "deep" and thought out--or seem like they don't make much sense BUT with many of these names, it was child-vacant taking the reins on what was being named and now it's adult-me's responsibility to make it make sense LMAO.

but anyway, without further ado, have the toponymy of 3(ish) major places in terrae:

LATHSBURY

i'm actually very fascinated as to where you found the definition of lathsbury because in all my years of having this wip, i've never been able to stumble across any succint meaning like that - its really cool! but, to be fair to myself, lathsbury is more a story relevant name and not much real world consideration was taken in naming it (meaning that this is one of the place names where kid me named it and now adult me is like, how do i make this name make sense lmao)

as to why i decided this should be the place name as a kid--genuinely i couldn't tell you. it was one of things where i thought of it, it sounded good, so decade and some change later, its still stuck.

the IN WORLD explanation is that both the people themselves (the Lathsburians) and the main kingdom of this world (The Kingdom of Lathsbury) are named after the Guardian of the first age, Lath of Argos, Guardian of Valor--as he directly helped save their ancestors from certain extention in the years before the creation of The Labyrinth (though funnily enough in a meta sense, i chose lath's name as lath because the city was already named lathsbury lmao). anyway, to learn the backstory about that, i made a handy little powerpoint about it HERE (and i have yet to make a part 2 about The Nomads specifically, but those will become the Lathsburians tm).

regarding the actual meaning; because i have a whole system of how i go about naming people in this wip (which is a conversation for another day), when i went looking for name etymology for lath, the meaning i found that i enjoyed the most was "lion" (though the bamboo meaning is also nice bc that can tie into perserverence or relentlessness)--and so to tie that back to everything regarding lathsbury, and the lore and all of that the technical toponymy of Lathsbury would be (the) Town Fortified by Lions; Lathsburians pride themselves on being "Lion People" as they model a lot of their behavior and vaules on the attributes of Lath: fearless, brave, relentless & working for the greater good of their people (as lions have prides and they work together and all that shit).

EROS & ARGOS

the citadel of Argos was the first city ever constructed in Terrae and was the one safe haven that Terraneans had before The Day of Fissures (see afore-linked powerpoint lol). i mostly picked the name Argos because Eros as a city already existed; and i liked the fact that the names are similar (because of their Greek origins they have similar sounds /shrug) because essentially, these two cities cannot exist without one another (in modern Terranean history tm). in fact, the two cities used to be combined under one banner in the years after The Day of Fissures & before The War of Lathsburian Succession--in that couple hundred year period, Eros/Argos were referred to as "Aegos" which is essentially a combination of the two city names (by adding the 'e' for Eros as all the other letters are p much the same) & this is also why some characters - as a tidbit/fun fact, have the surname Aegos (ie: Lady Illiana Aegos).

because of that coinjoinment the people from Eros/Argos call themselves Aegean even to this day--and in their world Aegean means something akin to "first people" -- this is because of its relation to Argos being the first city of Terrae, so thus, the Aegeans are the First People. so Argos doesn't necessarily mean shining/bright in this context--though you could argue that the attitude of Aegeans (generally) make them feel as though they are the shining light of the Terranean people and that the rest of the mainland has gone astray from their true purpose, which is liberating Argos from the clutches of chaos and restoring the old capital to its former glory. tm.

edit: also also, eros means “love” and shit. so eros existing is sort of “for the love of argos” because they want to reclaim it. tm.

HYTRÖTH

last one i'm gonna do for this giant ramble lmao. tl;dr this is a name that i also picked as a kid by throwing random letters together and adding an umlat on top bc i thought it looked cool, but then in retrospect i realized that little me was really onto something with this and i literally didn't even know it. let me explain.

so, Ö has a sort of "ouh" sound, with more of an emphasis on the uh. this makes the name of this place sound more like "High Truth" instead of "High Troth" (though if you call it either its literally fine lol, i misprounounce my own shit allllllll the time just look at he who smites the sun anyway tho)

the reason High Truth is REALLY genius is because Hytröth is considered to be the birthplace of the goddess MUINENS--who, among other things, is a goddess of justice (she's kinda similar to Athena if you want a sort of real-world comparison though of all the gods she's the only one with a specific inspo in mind and even then as i've developed this wip, she's grown so much as a deity. i should also mention generally speaking that its the proper way to refer to deities by putting their names in all caps unless they're minor deities such as Palanthia, The Lady of the Mist, or Nitarr and so on). so her birthplace being known as "high truth" you can see why i think that's really fucking cool.

i'd love to do more of these sometime in the future but like i said earlier, i just kinda don't have the brain for it. but if you (or anyone) were curious about the naming process for any of the other major places in terrae have a little handy list:

Sidenote: I actually was just thinking the other day about how in the past, I had so many more unfinished WIPs in my docs. The further back you go in my writing folder, the more ships you go back, the more and more stories I started and never finished. I'm actually pretty proud of myself for finishing most of what I started. I'd love to finish all of my ideas, but I unfortunately lack unlimited time to write and so I'm proud of myself to focusing on what are my favorites and managing to finish so much!

12 - favorite character to write about this year

Ooooh agh it's gotta be Shadowheart, right? She's so interesting (god's favorite princess and the most interesting girl in the world, after all) and I've had so much fun figuring out different ways to take what we get from her in the game and making it into interesting modern AUs. I have put her through some shiiiiit haha and you know you love a character when you just wanna put them through all the angst!

Tricky question just because I really only work on one fic at a time - if I move on from a WIP, it's likely that it's abandoned rather than technically in progress.

I have 1 work in progress for CaitVi, as well as 1 additional attempted fic that I probably won't continue.

I have 2 work in progress one-shots for Shadowzel, one of which I might try and finish, the other I probably won't, and 1 work in progress multichapter fic that I probably won't finish even though I looooved the idea. That one I actually started a while ago, cranked out around 10k words, but the plot wasn't coming together easily so I moved on. ☹️

24 - favorite fic you read this year

Oh my goodness. There are soooo many incredible fics I read this year, and they're all so different that I can't possibly pick a favorite. I'm going to instead pick 2 fics, one from each major fandom I've read for this year (Shadowzel and CaitVi) based on how many times I've gone back to re-read them and how much of a gut punch they give me just thinking about them.

For Shadowzel, it's gotta be Give It Up For DJ Shadowheart! by @capriclonus - this fic was I think the first modern AU I read for Shadowheart and I've reread it so many times since then, and it absolutely propelled me toward writing my own Shadowzel fics, so. 10/10 recommend if you are a Shadowzel shipper who somehow hasn't read it yet!

And for CaitVi, fuck it's so hard to decide because there are so many on my mind right now, but I think I have to go with Butterflies (Don't Belong In Zoos) by AmberZ10. I love a good celebrity fic, the way music was used in this fic blew me away, I loved the CaitVi romance, the angst and the tension, as well as watching Vi's personal growth, and the additional plot with Jinx was just so beautifully done as well.

(Okay and I can't not mention Run At The Cup by TheHomelyBadger, I love it so much, as far as reaaaally long fics this is the probably the best I've ever read, keeping me hooked the whole way through, sooooo fucking good)

Ink's 2024 Fic

We all survived another year, and with another year comes a new wrap-up to become my pinned post! Exact word count is tricky this year because of how AO3 counts published works you just go back and edit, but to the best of my reckoning in 2024 I wrote 96,424 words.That's an 86.417% decrease from last year, shocker.

2024 has been turbulent. We went from "I can't believe Mom has to have a root canal 5 days after major surgery" to "I'm so glad the root canal happened exactly when it did" in a matter of weeks. That was in March. The ENTIRE year has been like that. All this to say, if at any point in 2024 I didn't respond to you, stopped responding, or completely forgot something else important, it was probably because something was on fire. Nothing personal, just chaos.

That's also why I don't have a whole lot of commentary about a lot of what I wrote, compared to past years. This year, it was all TMA, and spread across 9 distinct works.

I'm listing my longest ongoings last to give the shorter ones the space to breathe. Completion status, word count, and any standout relationships are listed, but check the tags and warnings on AO3 for full details. The rest of the descriptions here are a mix of summary, excerpts, and liner notes.

from spite- 600, complete, Martin/Elias; I read The Bloody Chamber as my yearly court-mandated pre-Dracula season vampire book, and "The Erl-King" grabbed hold of my brain and said it was Martin's turn to be romantically menaced by Elias. It hasn't entirely let go, to be honest, and very well may inspire future melancholy iterations on the same ship in the future.

Martin is a sheet of ice, and Jonah's hand at his waist, his chin on his shoulder, twin flames that threaten to melt him. Jonah smiles by Martin's ear as though he heard the thought; it isn't difficult for him to circumvent the silent treatment, if it pleases him. "Look."

from what has been broken- 14k, WIP, Jon&Gerry; Last year I wrote a fic about Trevor and Julia just Keeping a very much alive Gerry and then kidnapping Jon from the Circus. This continuation is... mostly hurt at the moment, admittedly. The comfort is coming, I promise!

The Vampire Saga Route 1- 80k, 8 works, Jon/Martin, Georgie/Melanie; The most recent fic in Route 1 is actually a Christmas special Sutton wrote. Christmas special aside, this is the version where the vampire!Martin dilemma was solved with the power of friendship and everything is great forever. No misunderstandings and no ominous dangling plot threads, promise. 🥰🤞

The Vampire Saga Route 2- 43k, 8 works, Jon/Martin, Tim&Danny, Jon/Elias; Sasha tried very hard to resolve this version with the power of friendship 😔

The Archivist and the Adventurer- 45k, 10 works, Jon/Martin; My fae au got an eensy update this year! More importantly, the update introduced Gerry! If you're new, this au is technically complete- right now I'm adding oneshot chapters that take place in the main plot's happily ever after. With Gerry! More Gerry in 2025, hopefully! I want this thing out of my drafts!

Little Archive- 93k, WIP, Jon&Gerry, Jon&Beholding; Egregiously neglected this year, tbh. I swear, in 2025 I'm getting the next Plot Development out into the world. You guys will like this one, promise. For real promise, it's delightful.

Beneath the Stains of Time- 128k, WIP, Jon&Daisy; I really wanted to finish this one this year, but alas. In recompense, the entire outline as it currently sits on my whiteboard:

23. what's a story you'd love to write but haven't even started yet?

i had to check my marinating folder and omg........ my writers room au and postcards au............ both have mostly been planned exclusively in the sw discord server and i havent done much else with them bc they both came to me during a really bad writer's block BUT

writers room: nico is the head writer and one of the stars of a sitcom and will is a guest actor who's popped on set a few times, but has been bumped up to a series regular for the upcoming season bc the network has decided that nico's character Has to have a love interest right now and the show's producer (i think its probably reyna) makes the decision for nico on who its going to be (will, obv) so that nico doesnt get the whole show canceled

postcards: will gets a job at a university hospital and moves into a new apartment where he periodically gets postcards sent to his apartment number with no addressee and no signature but the cards come from all over the world and catalogue a mystery stranger's adventures. eventually this stranger writes that he'll be coming to visit soon, and will has no way of telling them that whoever they've been writing to doesn't live there anymore, so when will and nico first meet face to face its on will's doorstep and nico has the full intention of sleeping in that apartment for the next week

26. Do you ever "prep" your fics with outlines or warmups before you start writing, or do you just dive right in?

i'd say its probably half and half! sometimes i will get into a mood and write a <2k fic with no planning and no breaks and that's fine without notes to remind me what the heck im doing but for longer fics i absolutely need planning, almost everything planned out down to each individual moment. sometimes the planning is so detailed that its almost like an unreadable first draft. ethan has complained to me about how detailed my planning is and how they could never do that. but also sometimes my planning is a couple of sentences worth of notes just to remind me what the point is lmao

30. Have you noticed your style change over time?

this is perfect timing bc i actually just read a wip that i started in high school and (thank god) never finished or posted anywhere and. idk if this is technically style-related but my god do these guys behave more realistically. for someone who doesnt watch soap operas, boy do some of my fics have severe soap opera drama in them and every day i fight to like. stop that lmao

Hey, I just saw the update about the technical issues and that really sucks. Although, I just wanted to tell you that this is legitimately one of the most interesting IFs I've ever seen. I've been reading IFs and orbiting the communities for a little over 10 years now and the way you've pitched the traits and stats systems are super fascinating and very original. I love the concept, I think the world building sounds really engaging, what I've seen of the characters so far is endearing, and I really enjoyed your style of writing in what's currently available. This is honestly one of the most exciting WIPs I've seen in a long time and I just wanted to send some encouragement. I know you said you haven't been satisfied with your progress, but you've already done more work than the majority of WIPs that get stuck in the conceptualization phase and never really go anywhere.

I've held onto your comment because this really touched my heart.

The Update Is Now Up!

It's not perfect but I am excited to share some new content that I have added, the traits are back after I had to redo their code. Not all of them are actually possible to get at the moment I think, because they require really high stats. The whole point of them was to punish/reward you for getting your stats too high and you should aim to keep them neutral.

Nothing is perfectly balanced yet and they won't effect gameplay until we reach Sanctuario, which is the next step as this update wraps up the inn segment.

The warnings for the game has been updated so please read, especially if your playing as NB.

I thank everyone for being so patient with me and sticking around through my little rough patch. I am going to keep writing away and hopefully actually knock out several asks when I have the time.

The scarecrow and Bride (WIP)

FINALLY I GOT TO DRAW ELIZABETH! WHOOO HOOO!

Ah, and here's him with his scarecrow mask which is in progress (Question Iva's methods, but never her results/jk)

This is just him with his mask on, he'll be wearing his full scarecrow costume, but I made two versions for funsies. In an ideal world, I would make a small animation to showcase the chance buuuuut:

So it remains just as an extra, but also is a relief because it means less work outside the whole making a separate head just for an alternate and shading XD

If I am lucky I could also get the fic out soon, but that'll be dropped early for the ScarecrowWeek 2024 hahaha (which technically this piece will be, but for the last day as I am taking the oportunity that its a free day hehee)

Alright, lovely folks, don't worry about your request! I'll continue them on Saturday, as I am taking today and tomorrow off from drawing the colorless request, and focus on some stuff of mine.

I just took this decision recently, since honestly I've spent quite a lot of days drawing about 12 requests (THANK YOU GUYS!!!/vpos), so I decided to take a small teeny tiny break to relax and indulge in my stuff of Halloween! (better plan early than late, hahaha)

Although, I will say please don't send in requests today or Friday as it's on my break. I'll continue them on Saturday and slowly work to finish stuff. So in a sense, just for today and Friday, I am holding a small pause. I never thought I've gotten 12 drawings out already, and I appreciate it with all my heart, but I do hope you dears can understand I def need a small break so I don't get burn out or too overwhelmed. I will try however to get some progress done on one of the longest ones, as Delly has been an angel and been super patience.

In the first week of October I will only take two as I'll be busy, and the request will close down until next year (the last weeks of the year are the busiest for me)

Scales and Bonedust; in a setting where some humans live in dwellings draped over the backs of dragons, a man and a dragonling try to find their way home after their whole community is killed

Rabbitheart; a fairy tale of sorts about a young jester (and would-be sorceress) trying to reclaim her familiar to earn a princess' hand in marriage, with a large section of backstory about the setting's version of Arthurian lore

The Mayfly; a dark fantasy about a mortal half-elf prince learning the truth of elven immortality

Whalefall; merfolk dark fantasy about a "bloodsalt knight" (a soldier who bites themselves to draw attacking predators to the blood and away from their school) who is separated from her people

Mark the End; trope manipulation on 'everyone grows up and has babies' endings where the children are the reborn god-monsters their guardians fought as teenagers. heavy on monster lore and character drama

Vampire Prince Walter; a romantic comedy about childhood sweethearts (who have since become a vampire and a werewolf) being arranged to marry each other... as long as their fathers don't find out they like each other too much to spy on the other.

New Apocalyptia; a comedy about a world where all movie apocalypses happened at once (slightly NSFW)

Salt Water; an adventure story about a group trying to reach the bottom of their world’s incredibly deadly oceans, also mermaids and surfing as a death sport

Peppermint Circuits; a gay love story set in a world where everyone has a chip in their brain to influence their behavior (slightly NSFW)

Spycaller; a murder mystery about humans who interact with the intergalactic community from within mech suits

Superfish; a traditional coming of age superhero story about an LGBT group for college-aged sidekicks
