Thinking about how Bodies (2023) uses "representation" in such an intentional way. Every one of the four protagonists has an aspect about them which heavily affects how they relate to the era they live in. And how all four of them are police despite or even because of that.

Hillinghead. Gay in the Victorian era. He's defensive enough about it that he actively tries to arrest Henry when he finds incriminating photographs that display Henry's own sexuality. Hillinghead can't afford to let anything like that slip because what if it reflects back on him? Reflects back on his family, who he does care for dearly. He joined the police to hide and he plays the part for years until he realises what he may have missed out on.

Karl. Jewish in the 1940s. Changes the name he goes by to a name that sounds more stereotypically English, not because it's something he wants to be called, but so that he blends in. He hasn't been to the synagogue in years but he still knows where it is and he still returns there when he's not sure where else he can go. He's personable, but ultimately, not particularly trusting. And yet, he bonds with Esther almost immediately - a shared background goes a long way.

Shahara. Muslim in the 2020s. Is heavily aware of how race and perceived religion make a situation more dangerous when the police are involved. Is strong-armed by superiors into trying to approach Muslim witnesses because "only she is in the position to" and they know that she ultimately wants to help. She can't afford to refuse when she knows the consequences if she doesn't.

Iris. Disabled in the 2050s. This is a time where it's implied the world has largely left aside conflict relating to sexuality or religion. But despite mobility aids being available in her time, they're only available to those who "contribute". She has internalised the idea that she must sacrifice her autonomy to the state in order to live a life similar to an abled person, and that she must be thankful for this opportunity. Her brother had the same choice as her though, and he chose differently.

one of my favourite things to write is emotional snapshots, if you will--instead of showing a past event play out properly, just describe it in a couple words even though it could have a whole one-shot written about it, and then move on. and I often get the urge to elaborate on these, but I feel like their shortness is what makes these good? like, some stories just feel a certain length and I'd be only doing them a disservice to disregard that.

Not that her degree in fashion design helps any with that — but that is currently beside the point. She’s proud of that degree, regardless. It’s from a very prestigious university in New York, after all. It’s awesome. It helped her to land a great job when she returned to Paris a few months ago, and now her life is amazing. She’s proud that she went and got it. And she’s glad that she didn’t let anyone hold her back.  (Really, how was she supposed to know she’d run into Adrien at the airport, both of them clutching the rail of a suitcase that fit their whole life. “You’re going away?” he asked, voice so small and eerily familiar, it crumpled Marinette’s stomach into a tiny paper ball.  “You’re coming back,” she said, the only syllables able to make it past her clenched teeth. He shrugged, a motion barely there. “Always.”) But sometimes Marinette still wonders what her life would be like now, if she chose to pretend she’s in a cheesy Hallmark movie back then. If she turned back just before the check-in gates and ran along the corridors of the airport. Would Adrien have met her halfway, picked her up and spun her around, kissing her senseless? She shakes her head. It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter anymore. 

I don't know, is this anything beside world-building?

so far i really like the equinox laser rifle tbh, it’s a fun gun and seems pretty effective. i might try to build towards using laser weapons tbh. i also like the grendel bc it’s just a space p90 lol

totk has been fun as hell but besides the main stuff like flashbacks from the geoglyphs the plot has felt kind of weak. the rito storyline was cute ig & the goron one was kind of boring aside from the intrigue regarding zelda. ive never skipped cutscenes first time round before in a zelda game but i ended up doing that w the goron arc. I havent done the gerudo or zora plotlines yet so im hoping those are p good. i consider the gameplay more fun than botw with the exception that the champion abilities in botw are better than totk’s equivalent so far. 

i guess the main critiques i have are kind of uninteresting writing in some parts & some menuing that couldve been streamlined better, while the rest of the game is solid. i feel like when totk is at its best is when it’s in its Ghibli Groove, so to speak, when the amazing artistic influence sucks you into a beautiful world. i want more of the game whose atmosphere makes my heart swell with admiration & the joy of adventure.

watched the announcment trailer earlier, mostly my thoughts are more or less "neat!"

so. im admittedly a little nervous of how they'll handle the peoples and cultures of the "new world" (especially considering that one glamour set in particular thats in game.... but that was also added years ago right? hopefully theyve improved since then?)

although the recent incident with the northern attire glam set completely and thoughtlessly ripping off Saami cultural designs... isnt reassuring

but theres nothing to do about that but wait and see

other than what we saw in the trailer, i imagine other likely locations to see might include corvos and meracydia?

man. there still so much of the map we still could explore, even on the continents we've already been to! and thats not taking into accounts the potential of seeing other reflections (tho i doubt we'll be diving into that any time soon, unless its more of the 13th)

im a little surprised we already got the trailer, considering we otherwise have so little to go on in regards to actual plot. which is probably why there isnt much indication of that in the trailer itself
