Chapter Five: Maybe the World is Right

He wasn’t sure what time he actually woke up.  He was pretty sure it was earlier than he needed to be up, and it was definitely earlier than he usually got up.  A quick glance out the balcony windows confirmed that thought: the sun was barely even up.

…Marinette definitely wasn’t up.

He knew she had been when he’d fallen asleep.  He remembered her putting a movie on, and he remembered her being more interested in the takeout than talking to him, but…he had tried to tune all of that out.  He had been exhausted, more mentally than physically.  Sick of running in their same old circles.  Tired of hoping for answers she didn’t want to give him.

In some very real ways, it didn’t feel all that different from way back when.  Back before he knew her secrets and had begged her to trust him.  To let him in.  It was strange, how everything and yet nothing had really changed between them, even all these years later.
