"Not I," I said, "I love you."
Yet when blood was on your face I knew you not.
"Would you follow me, my child? Even in the dark?"
But when the light blew dim I fled.
You told me of the future, and of a joy to come
You loved me and you taught me
"I know your heart, my child."
When you were weak and weary where was I to comfort?
When you cried out for the Father I hid my face.
I saw you. I saw your eyes and anguish.
O how it pierced me. How could I abandon you?
"Not I," I said, "I love you." But how could it be true?
I turned and left my lover.
Weak and twisted is the heart that claimed to live for you
How can it be, how can I live? I wish to love you.
Yet it is a dead heart that saw your face among the crowd.
A light flew across the distance. On the wings of your suffering.
O how it pierced me. My eyes have opened.
I don't deserve to be here, to sing and see the dawn
Lord let me live and love you
How I was meant to all along

i didn't want to tell you i was getting sleepy because sometimes at night you and i are running at the same speed which is to say that while my little cone of vision ran and spun i still kept saying okay just ten minutes more and then i'll tell them i'm done. which is to say last night went on wide and long, you and me and the mountains and the idea that if we picked up and left we'd never stop running. and in the morning i told jarrod oh my god am i overthinking things and sent them screenshots for us both to decipher, hands restless over the keys. little stars in my eyes, dragon tamer, my ghost heart on fire.
i keep picking your foxhair out of my dreams i keep thinking about little french delicacies i keep coming back to this moment in the city where you grabbed my hand and the dawn light cut through you and over your freckles and then spilled over into me. sometimes i worry about all of this and tell my therapist it's flagrant self-deception and then she tips her head, which isn't an answer but might as well be a yes, it is.
but oh. little rook of my heart, bluewing bird with your dark eyes and that effortless little cry of joy whenever you're excited. oh i know it's getting late and the crickets are coming back and the winter sun set hours ago. but right now it's just you and me and the purple back of the future underfoot. come on, stay. just a few minutes more.

Never Chase Love...
In the quiet of your heart, let it be known,
Love should never feel like a chase or a drone.
If they wish to be near, they’ll find their way,
No need for begging, no need to sway.
A genuine heart will make the time,
To share in your laughter, to dance in your rhyme.
So stand tall and proud, let your spirit shine bright,
For true love will come, like stars in the night.
Don’t chase after shadows, don’t plead or implore,
The ones who are meant for you will open the door.
Embrace your own worth, let your soul take flight,
In the garden of love, you deserve the right light.
