never posted these here but wanted to prop this up: a well directed sequence! some VERY strong and in your face parallels (especially that up angle of Popeye and Bluto throwing Olive onto the couch, establishing her as the helpless middleman), little nuances that support those parallels, and just a great helping of personality that is always so dominating of the Popeye cartoons. that the dominating music here is “Love thy Neighbor”—used with an acerbic irony—ties it all together.
the punches Popeye and Bluto throw at each other is my favorite part. Bluto only needs to throw one punch—it matches how big, imposing, and “whole” he is. Popeye throws multiple; they’re smaller, just as he is, but more spry and split the difference. likewise, Bluto throwing in that extra “runt” after his punch is a great reflection of his character—he resorts to violence AND petty insults, making him seem even more unlikable. Popeye gets back at him with the violence, but he doesn’t stoop to his level with the name-calling.
even how they react to Olive offering candy is indicative of their character. Bluto is indulgent, pleasure-seeking (even if it is from a mere chocolate), and seldom thinks before he acts. Popeye on the other hand is more courteous, polite, and doesn’t succumb to his instincts as easily. his “no thank you,” is more genuine than Bluto’s own coy expression of thanks

i need need need kdrama writers to stop portraying main characters' parents as horrible people who should have never had children, building your empathy and rage for the main characters all along, only to pull out the "OH actually they aren't a shitty person because they kept their kid's childhood accomplishments/memories/photos, etc and never stopped being sad about losing contact with them" 😠 i'm begging these people to come into the 21st centry and drop the "honor your parents no matter what" routine. sometimes people lose touch with their parents on purpose because that's better for their mental health. sometimes people have complicated/angry feelings about their parents forever. sometimes what your parents did should not be forgiven or forgotten because it was terrible and traumatized you for life! and that's okay!! just because your parents are flawed people with their own feelings does not mean you have to make up with them or excuse what they did to you when you were child! A parent holding onto their kid's things from childhood when that person is a fully grown adult is just part of the problem of always viewing their children as the young, impressionable versions of themselves lacking in personal autonomy that they remember from when they were small and could manipulate them w/o consequences / rant over

Someone told "Hae-jo is selfish" and she can't understand him. I'm agree, he's selfish. but more than anything, I think he wants to make up for Jae-mi and himself. they both hurt each other. although I still don't know the reason of their breakup but I'm sure they both had mistakes. anyway I think Jae-mi because of her angry character (that Lee Yoo-mi protects it very well) doesn't give Hae-jo a chance for explaining his intentions. actually I think Jae-mi's relationship with Eo-heung isn't true. not because of Hae-jo, really because of Jae-mi. she's a bit selfish too if she did that marriage without telling truth. but I can understand both Hae-jo and Jae-mi. and I think our two main characters, both, starts to understanding and considering emotions of people around themselves.
