Tada Ayumu is a completely normal 58-year-old salaryman. His daughter, who loves anime, is about to get married to a man who also likes anime, and Ayumu feels distant from them because he has no interest in the medium. Suddenly, he time slips 40 years into the past, back to his 3rd year of high school! One of his classmates happens to become a famous animator in the future, and so Ayumu begins animating with him.

I scanned through some Japanese blogs, and from what I can tell, this manga is apparently somewhat of an autobiography of Gaku Miyao (though I may be wrong). It talks about becoming an animator in the 80s, and Yohko Mano from Devil Hunter Yohko (arguably Miyao's most famous work) is actually one of the main characters here.

As per my previous sleep deprived post , these are the anime I clearly remember watching as a child on the anime on demand cable network thingy.

😅 Although... I had no business watching Wandaba Style, Puni Puni Poemy, and Devil Hunter Yohko as a ten year old. My brain at the time associated female protagonists/a majority of the characters being female as a show with a female demographic. What I didn't know was that these anime are actually for an older straight male demographic and the overabundance of female nudity and lewdness flustered me so much lol. But I guess it helped me in a way, since it awakened my deep aesthetic attraction to the female form that I have been supressing at the time

What if my favorite girlhood anime was Devil Hunter Yohko? (OAVs 2-5)

Tho Inuyasha is among the choices in this vid... Yes, I've always been a big Rumiko Takahashi fan. But Inuyasha's anime was past my girlhood years, it just couldn't outdo Ranma 1/2 in my heart, and during my girlhood i preferred the manga version.

I decided to revamp this older image of Pretty Sammy I had done a while back. It's so much easier with rotate in PS now. Pretty Sammy was one of the first anime that I ever got on VHS, specifically the OAVs. Devil Hunter Yohko and Dragon Half being the other two. I may make this a keychain or something.

Angel's Friends was a wild anime-inspired Italian cartoon. It could have easily been next to Winx or WITCH. I may make this a keychain

One of the early Mega Drive cult classics to come out of Japan.  Based on the anime of the same name, 16-year-old Yohko must travel through the mystic worlds slaying demons with her sword to get back the magic ring. Graphically Mamono Hunter Yohko is a bit hit and miss. Some levels do look quite nice while others are average and even a few look bloody awful! Still, it’s playability that counts, right? Well, in this game it can be quite a challenge thanks to the “floating” style of Yohko’s jumps. Once you get the hang of that however it does turn out to be a very good action platformer. This is nowhere near as polished as Alisa Dragoon but does play better than the Valis games in my opinion. Well worth checking out if you can find a copy. By the way, the first Mamono Hunter Yohko anime falls into the hentai category. Full on sex scenes in that but nothing in the game.

The Power of Horny

There are a lot of incidentally horny Old Masters in anime, but that's not really what I'm talking about. Those guys are perverts as a humorous foil to being expert martial artists.

I'm talking about things like Devil Hunter Yohko, where this girl's so horny for a hot dragon boy that she travels into another dimension and fights demons for a chance at a kiss.

Or for a more recent example, Rie from I Thought My Time Was Up, who dates the accursed warlord, bulls through his every intimidation check, and resolves to spend her prodigious mana completely removing the curse that makes him smell like rotting flesh.

For a comedy, I think "is down bad" is actually a pretty excellent protagonist motivation. It's important that the protagonist isn't an abuser, certainly, but there's nothing wrong with them having sexual desires and being yanked around the plot by them. It's easy to contrive situations that lure them into the next plot point, as long as they're not a bad person it's also easy to produce social situations that deny them the thing they were hunting (their perverted desires being denied makes for an easy running gag) and the desire is so simple that the storytelling space is vast and diverse.
