Uses of time travel in fiction tiered based on how much I like them as pieces of a narrative:
TOP TIER
Stuck in a time loop: you were doomed from the beginning and there was never any sense to it. sorry. (e.g. Oxenfree)
My future is doomed and I've come back to the past to prevent it: my efforts end up ensuring the future comes to pass in an especially ironic way (Braid, that one episode of Fairly Odd Parents)
GOOD TIER
Stuck in a time loop: Until you experience relevant character development (e.g. Groundhog Day)
My future is doomed and I've come back to the past to prevent it: even knowing I can never return and will never truly be at home anywhere and may in fact disappear when the future changes because it truly cannot be worse than what I left (e.g. Fire Emblem Awakening, Future Trunks)
Let's go see what the dinosaurs/king arthur/the assyrians were up to like, field trip style. (e.g. the Magic School Bus. maybe this is controversial but I'd put Chrono Trigger here too)
Those weird ass Stable Time Loops that leave you puzzling over how all this shit got started (Drakenier)
MID TIER
Wait a second, this time travel shit is hard and our actions have consequences!: but a better world is worth the side effects (Chrono Trigger also goes here)
Time travel is just a fact of this setting, so we might as well get high concept about it (This Is How You Lose The Time War, Primer)
BAD TIER
Stuck in a time loop (until you figure out the correct sequence of events) (e.g. Majora's Mask)
Wait a second, this time travel shit is hard and our actions have consequences!: therefore we shouldn't interfere with the timeline at all. (Star Trek but it isn't a clean example because it also sort of plays with the tension here)
TRASH TIER
My future is doomed and I've come back to the past to prevent it: and I do so without any repercussions, comfortably able to return to a world that still has a place for me in it, just without the Bad Thing (Eva Rebuilds)

leftist media discussion: "While this show said "trans rights" directly without any ambiguity, one plot element of this children's show could be considered morally questionable after 25 degrees of separation, so the author must be a heckin fascist"
right wing media discussion: "Well it happened. The reboot of Female Protagonist Fights Unsubtle Allegory for Capitalism That I Was Too Young to Notice as a Kid -our last bastion of apolitical entertainment- has gone woke because they made a supporting character black"
centrist media discussion: "did you see the latest episode of Sword Hero Cleanses the Undesirables on crunchyroll? best show of the year imo"

Me: In November, either Trump or Biden will win. There is no third outcome, so we should vote accordingly for the option that will mitigate the most harm.
The people in my notes: Oh, so you think direct action is bad? You think voting is literally the only thing we can do? You hate activism? You love Biden and endorse everything he does and think nobody should criticize him ever? You think voting will just magically solve all our problems? You think protesting is wrong? You love the status quo and think everything is fine?

the attempted tiktokification of hozier will never not be funny to me because half his songs are about politics and the other half are about wanting to be railed so hard the neighbours complain

guys, in regards to reading comprehension, if it's something you struggle with — read the whole thing. If it's something you don't struggle with, yes you do — read the whole thing.
don't respond or comment or whatever before you have read the whole thing.
The number of times I've gotten responses from people who clearly didn't read beyond the first few sentences of what I wrote is genuinely staggering. Think about it: if you don't have time to read someone else's thoughts, why should anyone take time to read yours? Communication is a two-way street.
Take your time reading. It's okay if you have to take time. You don't need to be 100% ready with a response right away, ever, in real life convos or online. You are allowed to take the time you need to absorb information and develop a response. Anyone who says otherwise is an asshole.
If you have a physical copy of something, highlighting or underlining is extremely helpful. There's even studies that show that you take in more information if you're holding a pen in your hand, as if to take notes. Also, TAKE NOTES! It's fun and extremely helpful.
If you don't have a physical copy, try highlighting with your mouse or your keyboard as you read. It makes you slow down and absorb what you're reading. Highlight a sentence at a time, and move forward sentence to sentence. There are even programs that allow you to do this with any running text. It's usually called focus mode.
TL;DR read the whole text before you respond to something, for the love of spiders georg

You better watch out, buddy – I have extremely unusual life experiences which I mistakenly believe are universal, and I'm about to misinterpret your post in ways you can't even imagine.

My dear friends: When a librarian or teacher says "Audiobooks count as reading", we do not literally mean that audiobooks are the same as decoding visual meaning via symbols representing sounds. We mean, among other things:
Audiobooks can expose listeners to new vocabulary and forms of syntax.
Audiobooks can present listeners with long-form fictional narratives with engaging characters, interesting literary devices, and poetic turns of phrase.
Audiobooks can teach listeners new information in a long-form manner that goes into depth or wide breadth on a particular subject or subjects.
Audiobooks can help listeners' verbal comprehension skills.
Audiobooks can do all these things without presenting the same difficulties to blind, low vision, partially sighted, visually impaired, or dyslexic listeners; listeners with ADHD; listeners who experience physical difficulty with holding a book or e-reader; or listeners who are disabled in a host of other ways that a physical book or e-reader might present.
The written word is not specially imbued with magical noble worth above the spoken word, and if you think it is, you may have some ableism and/or racism to deconstruct.

Me, a fool: It would be cool if TOTK brought back old Zelda enemies!
Me, later: I take it back I take it back I take it back
Something about the hand shaped enemies in Zelda games give me the absolute heebie-jeebies. I hate them so much. They freak me out man, it’s legit bad for my heart!
So here’s an artistic interpretation of the first time I came across those damnable gloom floormasters in game. It was like every creepy hand enemy merged into one nightmarish abomination come to haunt me. Link almost met the goddesses that day…
See if you can spot all the references!
