A more hopeful ending to Final Fantasy 16. One where Clive survived and returned to Jill where they could finally live the remainder of their lives free of the burdens the world placed on their shoulders.

I finished FF16 and both DLC's and while I wish there was a different ending to it, or one that wasn't so open-ended, it left me hopeful. I'd like to believe that Clive (and even Joshua) somehow survived even if Clive did lose the use of his left hand. I'm just sick of heroes needing to die in these stories when heroes deserve to live a full life with love and happiness. So that's what I'm hoping Clive, Jill and Joshua were able to have.

slay the princess is a horror game about the nature of love! you play as the nameless (at the time) knight who has been asked to do the titular task. Why? She'll end the world of course! Who says so? The Narrator! Who told him to tell you? uh...

you're accompanied by him and the voice of the Hero, who suggests that you take a more merciful route. you're supposed to be the good guy after all.

i won't explain further as seeing the twist for yourself is the best way to experience it imo, but it has gorgeous writing, both of the humorous and sad kind, and the artsyle is really nice. the dlc comes out on Oct 24th, with even more routes you can do (pst, for your first run would recommend turning around and constantly trying to leave. it unlocks something special)

OMG!! ok fun fact I adore slay the princess... I first discovered it when I was just watching longform youtube analysis of various video games. and slay the princess video essay was so captivating i paused the essay halfway through and watched a lets play, which i NEVER do, and then I watched 3 other letsplays and bought the game. I love watching people discuss the themes and mechanics of video games I will never play, but STP hooked me in a whole different way.

LOVE your description of the game!!! if anyone reading this is interested, STP has tons of replayability and works great in lets play format, so if you are on the fence/unsure about spending $20 or whatever, look up a letsplay on youtube (usually 3-4 hrs for a full playthru) and see how u like it!!

I'm not sure if this is quite the right reading, 'cause a lot of details are kind of vague, but I keep thinking about Alan writing the Hiss crisis to help make Jesse a Hero, but the crisis became so large and all consuming that Jesse couldn't be of any help to him in Bright Falls because she ended up trapped in the Oldest House. It's such an interesting to think of in terms of the possible limitations of Alans writing. Like, he can start the crisis rolling with the pieces he has, but once they're rolling, he can't stop them. It just sort of highlights all the things that could go wrong with his stories.

(Also, even through dimension weirdness Jesse can't leave the House while the Hiss are still present as she's the one actively powering the HRAs...)

It also sort of feels like, by leading Jesse to Hartman, (someone strong enough to get rid of him for good), Alan is investing in the future through re-opening the investigations sector and giving the FBC back the resources on Bright Falls they had to leave behind, working with whatever he's got after the original attempt went awry.

Anyway, sorry if this isn't quite coherent, I'm playing AWE again and having thoughts...
