Oil is Thicker Then Blood (Part 100)

The sound of light snoring filled a 16 year old boys bedroom in the wee hours of the dusk, the wall adorned with guitars on racks and band posters displaying men with long hair.

His blankets were a charcoal black, his sheets a dark grey. On his desk lie a machine glowing with RGB, and whirring softly, and his seating options consisted of haphazardly arranged bean bags.

“Nico! ¡Levántate! ¡tienes tu turno en la puerta del búnker hoy!” Came harshly from the living room, and a drone with a mop of black hair grumbled, emerging from his nest of blankets like a member of the undead.

His purple eyeslights flickered on just to display his groggniess- another night of fitful sleep.

“Comin abuela!” He calls out in return, throwing the blankets off him and stumbling into the bathroom where he brushed his shoulder length hair and cleaned his teeth.

The only thing he was wearing was a pair of long black shorts, his hair was a mess, and when he looked at himself in the mirror he looked like a disheveled shelter dog.

“Ugh. Fuck me…”

He sighed as he gathered up clothes to wear for his shift guarding the front door, with everything going on, older students had the choice to volunteer to help with different projects instead.

And he'd take security work over a stuffy classroom any day.

He slid on a grey shirt and green cargo pants before fumbling around in his room to find his brown aviator jacket and matching goggles, then dug in his nightstand to find his service weapon- a 9mm pistol that would do nothing against a threat that wasn't a normal drone.

He strapped it to his hip and opened the the door to the living room where his grandmother was watching some kind of reality TV show, her legs covered in a knitted blanket.

“Morning.” He gave a half grin to her slightly yellowed frame, she smiled back, faded blue eyelights blinking at him.

“Buenos días mijo. Casi pensé que no te levantarías” She hummed, gently taking his hand as she couldn't quite see him even in his close proximity.

“Nada…No me iría de casa indefenso.” He replied before sighing. “Por favor, usa tus gafas abuela…”

She shook her head. “Ah, no. Not like it will help anyway.” She switched to english, probably not even realizing she'd switched at all. “You be safe mijo! Don't be a idiota!”

He chuckled softly. “Done enough of being stupid… no worries. See you when I get back.”

He shut the door behind him, stopping to stand just in front of his door to watch several people walk by- a deadpan expression seeping onto his face.

“Let's get this over with…”

He traipsed down the hall towards the bunker doors. Getting shoulder checked and ignored all the way through; he was decently tall for a worker drone but that didn't stop people from not caring enough to get out of his way.

It was kind of his luck. Hell, his whole families luck it seemed. He should've been named Murphy, because every single bad thing that could happen; did.

His father was murdered outside the bunker before he was even born, and his mother only took care of him for the first four years of his life before dumping him on her mother and bailing. He couldn't parse her out from the crowd even if she was still around.

So it was just him and his dear Abuela, and it had been for most of his life, which he was fine with, she was a lovely woman and had raised him well. Though recently her opticals had begun to fail…

Just another thing added to the list of mundane and shitty aspects of his life.

Why couldn't his problems be more fantastical? At least then he could be miserable and interesting instead of miserable and bored to fucking death.

He reached the front of the bunker on complete autopilot, settling into his post next to the open door, snow blistering around him while he leaned against the frozen concrete.

Despite how lonely it often got, he did find himself enjoying his time out here, one earbud in his audials while he watched the ship that would take them all away from here be built.

He'd actually begun as a welder, and was pretty good at it too- the only problem being that he was too impatient for it, he would get into a flow and then burn his hands because he wasn't paying attention… so now he was put on simple security.

“Hey Nico. Just get here?” His watch partner and now, one of his close friends patting his shoulder as she walked by with a piping hot cup of gasoline for the both of them.

“Hey Nellie. Yeah. Kinda slept in…” He replied, looking into the girls green eyelights and near silvery hair that hung down to the small of her back.

“Boss should be back from the expedition today with the ‘cords. All that's left after that is preparing that monstrosity to go.” She pointed to the ship, now being coated in heat shielding for its cone and underbelly.

“You think it'll actually work? Some of that shits starting to get in our pipes now… it's gonna get impossible to clean out soon.”

She shrugged. “If it don't, I say let's have one last hurrah until we all munched, if the planets gonna take everything; let's not let it take our joy too…”

“And if it does?”

She laughed. “Then I'll kiss you. How about that?”

He blushed at that, looking away sheepishly. “I think I'd take you up on that.”

The air cracked with supersonic pressure, alerting both drones to a yellow blur quickly decending, preparing to land just in front of them and they both braced themselves, snow getting flung everywhere as something big and mechanical landed with a loud thud.

After everything settled, what remined standing before them was tall, formidable, and had a long tail with a stinger. A Murder Drone…

Carrying a small, feisty, visibly pregnant little worker, and both were smiling like idiots.

“You said slow.”

“That was slow!”

“You broke the sound barrier!”

Nico felt his features soften. Good, they were both back in one piece, and it seems to have went well If their playful bickering was anything to go by.

…

There was one more reason he really enjoyed being out here, instead of in there.

“Mama! Papa!” Little Tera was calling from the arms of a drone with blonde hair and white eyelights, reaching out for her parents as N nearly ran to take her out of the workers arms.

“Oh hello my baby bat! Papi missed you yes he did!” He spun her, making a cascade of happy giggles escape her mouth.

Nico smiled at the sight, feeling his heart swell before a pang of deep regret hit him like a truck.

It wasn't supposed to be this way…

That night with Chloe was supposed to be fun, no consequence. She'd told him she was sixteen too, acted like she'd never done anything before right up until she absolutely blew his mind- but he'd chalked it up to it being his first time.

Then; nothing. Radio silence, he didn't see her in his classes, didn't see her in the halls or any other party he'd went to, like she'd been a ghost.

Until she called him five months later to meet her at the nursery.

He thought the meeting place was odd, but at the time didn't seem to care, he was just excited to see her again, being unable to wipe the night from his memory- he'd wanted something more substantial ever since then…

What he arrived to, was her holding a pillbaby put with one hand- which she dropped unceremoniously into his arms before just walking away without explaining a damn thing.

He didn't need one though. He knew the moment the babies eyes opened and he was staring into his own eyelights, when her mouth opened to let out a coo and she weakly rolled into into him.

He held her close, alone aside from Mrs.Rayn in the nursery, having to sit down because his legs threatened to give out underneath him.

At first… he just admired her, she was mostly inert now having been just transferred and having no life experience other then him in that moment. But she was perfect in every way.

Then he… thought about how he'd have to adjust, he'd have to drop out of school, move out- but… he couldn't move out, abuela couldn't see very well and without him she could hurt herself…

Okay… so he couldn't move out, that's fine. So it was drop out, keep taking care of his grandmother and the new addition, and get a job so he could make sure she'd have toys and extra bottles and all the oil she needed.

But… taking care of the both of them would be a full time job- he couldn't be out all day and expect his grandmother to help raise yet another baby.

He started to tremble when he made that revelation. How absolutely upset his grandmother was going to be at him, how utterly impossible it would be to try and juggle everything this little baby would need at the age of 16.

And he started to cry uncontrollably, hugging her tightly as his heart unraveled out onto the floor. Ugly sobs wracking through his body as he went through the last… and most viable option. To leave her here.

Yet he still stayed for another hour, basking in his daughter's presence, memorizing it to the best of his ability.

He'd given her a name- even knowing it would never be used.

Mariposa, his little butterfly.

And then, he went to the front desk, legs feeling like lead and with shaky breaths, and handed her to Mrs. Rayn.

She didn't even have time to ask a question before he was gone, not being able to bear being there a second longer without breaking down into more tears.

When he got back to his room, he collapsed in a heap of despair. Sitting on the edge of his bed just staring into space, the weight of what he'd done threatening to crush him.

After an hour of that. He called Chloe, she didn't pick up but he didn't exactly need her to. He just needed to fucking scream.

So he did.

He left a thirty minute long expletive filled rant as a message before throwing his phone in fit of absolute rage and then collapsing as tears ran down the inside of his visor again.

He had a daughter, a pillbaby with his code and the circumstances of her birth and his life had made it impossible for him to be there for her in the way he wanted to be.

He knew, realistically, this was the best choice for both of them, he wouldn't have to uproot everything and she would have a much higher quality of life, she'd have two parents who'd love her instead of just him, a 16 year old boy who barely knew how to take care of himself.

The next morning, and the day after that, and the day after that he went to visit her secretly, giving her tickles or admiring her before he went to school. His heart hurting knowing that there was going to be a day soon where she'd be gone.

And then the day came.

And she was gone.

He was brought back to the moment by a happy laugh, Tera pulling her mother's beanie off as she climbed her head, looking overjoyed to be with her parents.

She was so happy now, so energetic, so wild and carefree, he felt cemented in his choice, that it was the right one. But sometimes he was simply just jealous of her new parents; despite the fact they seemed wonderful.

They got to experience her first words, first steps, spoil her rotten. All the things he wanted to do, to be the dad he never got to have.

“Papi! Happy! Mama!” She yelped out a short string of words, beaming happily as the family went inside. Resting on her mother's shoulder- they made eye contact.

She recognized him, not as her dad but… as someone she knew. Her mouth tilted upwards and she gave him a happy wave, kicking her feet.

He gave a small, bittersweet wave in return.

i think this baby is a really chill gamer, he enjoys the cozy aspect of video games. thats why i think games like minecraft, stardew valley, animal crossing and the sims!! cozy video game dates are a norm for you guys when its too hot outside or too rainy.

imagine playing stardew valley with him, curled up under the covers with your MATCHING SWITCH CONSOLES. you guys working through the first few years of the game as little farm people doing little farm things. he’d even find some helpful guides online so you guys can maximise your finances in the game. honestly i can see how he gets a little petty at the fact that you MARRIED some npc in the game and he had to watch the whole cutscene while you joked around that he hadn’t given you enough attention and this was all his fault. now kazuha hates that particular npc, and he’s definitely pouting the whole night. give him lots of smooches, tell him that no video game code can replace your pookie wookie baby boy <3

but there, of course are other ways you can make up for it, like asking him to marry you- in animal crossing duh!! he’d take this whole thing very seriously obviously, its a wedding silly. he’d prepare a little wedding venue in his world by the beach, even going as far to design a cute little tux. it’s adorable, also don’t think for a second that he wouldn’t give you a kiss (giggling after) when the wedding officiant says you may now kiss. i also can picture kazuha buying you a promise ring irl , with a maple leaf engraved onto it. yes it was a animal crossing wedding, but it was YOUR WEDDING non the less.

another thing i can imagine is while you were playing the sims kazuha would 100% ask to create a little family with you. he’d even help to go “shopping” online for CC that would fit your characters or homes. kazuha DIES A LITTLE inside as you carefully curate each of the characters, spending hours deciding on the perfect outfits, hairs and personalities. coming up with mini fantasy stories about the mini yous and giggling along with him when they get a little too absurd. your cute family consists of you, kazuha and a little white cat. kazuha likes watching you get a little flustered whenever his character flirts with yours, sending a romantic haiku your way. not to mention the first time your character’s woohoo’ed he teasingly said:

“its honestly a shame that they’re the only ones that get to woohoo you know?”

anyway kazuha is 100% down to try as many games as he can with you, playing games with him is 10 bells out of 10 bells hehe

xiao

gamer xiao… yea he kinda scares me. xiao plays shooter games for sure, like obviously he’s had an eboy valorant phase but lets skip past that for now. its definitely more than normal to hear him grumbling how “dogshit” some of his teammates are. he’s definitely muted from chat on several games, also banned from league most of the time from being toxic in the chats.

playing competitive games with xiao is definitely an experience, and it definitely does not feel like the stereotypical pocket sage and hyper-carry jett. so please proceed with caution. the first time you and him played together, he may have gotten a little TOO HEATED and may have cussed you out on accident forgetting it was his loving, doting and caring partner who just wanted to participate in one of his hobbies. xiao doesn’t mean to get angry at you, please bare with him when the words “how is this person so fucking bad, how are they SO USELESS JUST GET OFF THE GAME DUDE” slip out. and oh boy… xiao immediately regrets his words, he feels so bad. he was actually overjoyed when you asked to play with him, even if he doesn’t actually show it, now he definitely assumes that you won’t ever want to play games with him EVER, hell maybe you want to break up. he’s spiralling. he apologises so much and he’s so awkward and so fidgety. its hard to stay mad at him, when he’s like this you have to admit he’s a little cutie. the next few days he’s definitely cautious and on edge around you, he finds it weird that you let go of the situation so easily and just moved on. he cant believe he let such vulgar words be thrown towards you. so after a conversation about his behaviour, you both decide maybe its best you just be an observer. you’re more than happy to straddle him, chin on his shoulder when he plays at his pc. and xiao LOVES IT, there is honestly nothing more comforting than you give him a little kiss when he starts to get a little too tense. occasionally when you face the screen and watch his games, he gets so nervous to play well. and xiao absolutely DIES when you compliment his abilities. bro needs the praise please, in that moment he thinks you’re so sexy and you have such a caring soul and his ears are tinted so red. don’t tease him though, he won’t be able to play the game properly.

another thing xiao is so weirdly good at is arcade games. i can picture arcade dates and xiao is just godly at them, claw machines, those basketball ones, car racing- you name it sweetheart and he’s earning those tickets like he needs to feed his 20 kids as a single dad. xiao acts so nonchalant about it, shrugging his shoulders as if this talent of his isn’t a big deal, but inside he’s so proud that he’s managed to get you that plushie he knows you’d been eyeing the whole day. he loves the way you grip onto his biceps pulling him to another machine to test his abilities, he may grumble about you overreacting but he’s so happy just to see you smile. and having you cheer him on the side is such an added bonus, you’re such a cute cheerleader. anyway i rate xiao a “please dont scold me baby im trying my best” out of “FUCK YOU FUCKING SUCK”

venti

horror games. literally venti HATES THEM but he cant get enough of it. playing phasmophobia would be so incredibly fun, but also a total shitshow. like im talking him making you do all the work while he intentionally provokes the ghost. at the same time he’s too scared to do anything so, he’s always really close to you. so if anything ever happens, you’d be a total idiot to think he’d try to help you, venti would be the first one out the door and running away. venti is also so horrendously LOUD, literally half the time instead of getting spooked by the game, your having a heart attack inducing jump scare from his random screaming. don’t even get me started on roblox horror games, every week there’s some new game he discovered on tiktok, and you are playing it with him, you have to.

another game venti loves to play is sims, but he’s about 100 times more chaotic compared to kazuha. he loves those ridiculous challenges and he wants to have like 10 babies with you, and then proceeds to cry when they are taken away from the sims version of cps. for some reason he has all the packs and likes to screw around with everything. he makes silly little bets with you in any game, for example in the sims he’d bet with you whether your 23rd child is going to be a boy or girl, most bets are harmless like a kiss or cuddles, unless he’s in the mood.

speaking of intimacy, venti needs to be holding you while playing games. arms linked, lying on your lap or you in his, honestly you just let him because he’s so cheeky about it anyway. venti also loves playing music related games with you, duh!! karaoke, guess the song, finish the lyric. ANYTHING!! whether you can sing or not, he just loves to hear your voice, definitely teases you if you cant though hehe. karaoke is so fun, if your shy he definitely eases you into letting lose and breaking out of your comfort zone, duetting with you is something he loves because music is his passion and honestly it hits so close to home for him. you’d often find him squeezing your hand as a form of encouragement.

im rating venti a solid 8 red bulls out of “i’ve already had 15”.

this little emo baby is 100% only ever playing single player games, things that are extremely grindy and super lore heavy (bro is on subreddits looking at game theories and conspiracies, he would love to talk to you about them if you ever asked)!! im talking about bloodborne, doom, assassin’s creed and dark souls. he hates online multiplayer games because he doesn’t want to interact with “idiots” as he’s mentioned numerous times. so unfortunately its not often that you have a chance to play any type of multiplayer games with him.

however when it comes to his gaming sessions, he’d subtly invite you to come watch him because you’re like his own little streaming audience, and he loves it. the way you comment about how cool his character looks, or ask questions about gameplay mechanics. he loves how you involve yourself in his hobbies, it turns him to mush. he also loves how you play with his hair while peeking over his shoulder to look at the tv screen as he taps away at the controller. sometimes when the game gets a little boring he notices how your breath bounces off his neck, needless to say, those nights end up a bit more differently than how you originally imagined.

also if your ever interested in the game, kuni would “hesitantly” offer you to play on a new save file. but he’s actually elated that you’re going to try his FAVOURITE video game ever. you take your place in his lap as he explains to you the basics, not many would notice but you can ever so slightly hear the excitement in his voice. kuni complains about you being so lost but he’s so careful with explaining certain things, he’s also so patient as you take hours designing your character, well he’s okay being patient since its you. kuni absolutely DISSOLVES when facing a difficult boss, puzzle or obstacle, you kinda go into a slump against his chest and beg him to help you get past it. he snickers that your so weak, but somehow he manages to get through so swiftly- i guess he needs to show off a little to you. he also may complain a lot but thats just how this baby boy is, dont get discouraged he actually thinks you’re so cute.

also if you ever find yourself playing overcooked, moving out, gang beasts or any of those party games with kuni… good luck, just because he doesn’t like competitive games like valorant, DOES NOT MEAN HE ISNT COMPETITIVE. he gets so worked up and its honestly a little cute if you can look past the crusty white dog behaviour. if you do end up getting into an argument over these games, dont be surprised. im lazy to give a rating so im giving him 10/10, again minus the crusty white dog.

Well, I know I’m bit late but here again an another analysis on Makoto ! This time, it’s a short one so I’ll put here, just below, enjoy ! If some people wants to put it on the Danganronpa reddit, all they have to do is ask me, maybe I would do it myself but I don’t think so. Here’s my gift for the anniversary !

Japan Society and Makoto Naegi

Through Makoto, we could see a critic of the Japanese society. Indeed, as we know the Japanese society is very repressive against people that want to differentiate from the ordinary folks. Japan is an extreme collectivist country that put the common good above the individualism of its citizens. While it has its great advantages, it also comes with a cost which is the repression of the individual.

This repression of the individual leads to the conformity of the society where being normal or ordinary is good. Any attempts so as to try to be out of the norm are viewed as bad, inadequate and inappropriate as it’s not the good thing to do. There exist a moral superiority which is still present in Japan. To put the common good above anyone else is what is taught from the beginning of the life of the Japanese people. The education do all in order for children to conform and to take the road of normalcy.

It’s easily observable when someone quit the enterprise he worked with to work with another. Much people have difficulties to exit their company and it’s viewed in a bad light to do so because you « betrayed » the company and you aren’t loyal to your former company.

Effectively, loyalty is also a key quality in Japan. But their is also the fact that Japan had one of the highest suicide rate estimated at 24.90% per 100 000 habitants in 2009-2010 which was already high before but coupled with the arrive of its worse recession, explains us how stressfully and tough it was.

We have also the phenomena of Gyaru or Hikikomori which show a will to break that conformity and to rebel against this society that restrain its citizens’ ego.

Now that have put a relatively basic context, I can use that context for Makoto. I think, and it’s pretty obvious, that Danganronpa at least for his two first games, is a critic of the Japanese society, especially THH where much characters have problems that concern Japan society. It’s fairly observable with Makoto in the prologue. He presents himself as an ordinary person which is for the moment, a basic description that many main protagonist slice of life character describe themselves. But there is something more in Makoto’s description of himself. Throughout his presentation, he insists on how ordinary he is and how he is so unremarkable that he is more average than the average guy. Do you see where I’m going ? Makoto Naegi in the prologue, is a perfect representation of the ideal of the Japanese citizen in Japanese society! He is normal, polite and loyal but especially normal. Like said before concerning the Japan society, normalcy is viewed as a great quality which is what ironically Makoto describes himself to be. Not to a normal degree but in an extreme degree. He fits all the case. Even if he said that he is more optimistic than the other people, that optimism isn’t shown at all in the 1st chapter except for one time which serves to highlight that his optimism does exist. He is also humble.

Moreover, like said before he has accepted that normalcy, it’s who he is. The fact that he has accepted that only confirms what has been told before. While there is some truth in what he said about himself some aren’t totally true but I’ve already analyzed this so I won’t do it here. Notice that he hasn’t talked about his luck at all, which seems to be suppressed in order for his description to fit the ideal of the Japanese society.

But throughout the story, we see different characteristics of Makoto, even in Chapter 1 where many aspects of his personality is shown whether be bad or good. Those aspects deviate from what’s described initially from Makoto. His lack of rationality, his more aggressive, impulsive side, anxiety and self-depreciation but also his lack of confidence in himself which makes him have a skewed view on his action that he considers as normal but aren’t really normal or ordinary. We can suspect that he has that sort of view because of the impact of the Japan society which restrained the flourishment of his personality, his ego.

As we progress in the story, Makoto becomes more confident, and takes a major role for the cast to survive during the trials. Not only that but his optimism nature is much more present compared to the first chapter. It illustrates a contrast between what he was supposed to be and what he describes himself to be and what he is in reality in THH. He was supposed to be a normal person, the ideal of Japan society. So to be average, discreet and shy is what he should have been but it’s the contrary that was shown to us. Not only his presence becomes pivotal to the plot but his impulsiveness, intelligence, confidence, luck and optimism but also his will to honor the death of his friends, makes him extraordinary. All of what he thought that he was, was in fact not totally true. And everything comes to a grand final where he becomes the ultimate hope, a talent beyond others ultimates, a talent extraordinary. What he thought he was, was just more than the fragments of his true self.

But what was the thing that allowed him to break from his chains ? The killing game itself. Indeed it’s this killing game that enabled him to become what he becomes in Chapter 6. The killing game is what’s break society, here the Japanese society. HPA becoming a symbol of despair is not only important for the narrative but also outside of it as HPA represents the Japan society itself. Its collapse signify not only the death of society but also the death of normalcy and the end of the imprisonment of the individuality of the person and let the true desires of people exist. Secrets, money, close people, betrayal. All of these are use as a tool to show their real persona.

In a way, Makoto didn’t change or develop during the game. Quite the contrary, he was freed from society and was allowed to show his true self. Everything, he stored, all his aspects of him, become unlocked in this killing game who reveals the true nature of everyone. So narratively, we could say that he did change and become more confident but if we adopt another angle, it was more a release of what he truly was.

OKAY SO I JUST DECIDED TO FILL THE WHOLE THING OUT! I headcanon Peril as Intersex and nonbinary!! AND SAME FOR ME, they fall fight between “I know them” and “their lore is literally impacted by their transsexualism”!! Peril is a very Nonbinary character to me, the way she was raised to view things as very “black & white” and hosting a sense of little self autonomy— makes them finding a comfortable identity in a very “”in the middle”” gender compelling! Especially within the understanding of how Peril was raised and brought up in someone else’s vision, being able to find self-identity in that nature of breaking down the “black & white” structure that was forced on them through the act of finding identity in neutrality. I find the development of self-love extended through gender expression in that nature something that works well in-unison with Peril’s pre-existing themes! Especially in regards to the layered metaphors of the Necklace. As a nonbinary person myself - I found that to be a pinnacle moment of forced suppression of identity into something more “palatable” to the public perception - in this analysis that being the forcing of femininity onto a gnc aligning identity - speaking to the way many nonbinary identity’s are expected to lean “one direction or the other”. So that moment being involved in Perils story - and her breaking free of it and having a self-realization/control moment - very reflective of nonbinary/gender non conforming experiences !!

With that though - thats just my own interpretation and connection to those aspects of Peril’s characterization! I find her lore and themes within her character to speak to many universal experiences of identity that can be interpreted in a fluid way. Like I personally read it as a very compelling arc about non-conformity and applied my own experiences with gender expression onto it, but other interpretations/analyses are just as strong! Its a lot of personal interpretation which is why the personable “I know them” also 100% fits my perception of transgenderism onto Peril <33

Also the Intersex headcanon is purely a me thing, I always thought Peril was intersex just like. Factually lmao (one of those “I somehow convinced myself this was canon and was surprised to learn it was not” moments lmao). The reason I included it as well is because within my headcanon I think Peril would similarly absorb her being intersex to a further extension of gender identity! Again, breaking down those “black & white” views that were forced on them through themself - literally! Notably being intersex does not inherently mean gender identity is going to be impacted as well, just for this headcanon I feel Peril’s relationship to their gender identity would be strongly impacted by them being intersex <3 !!

yeah so i saw it first thing when i woke up yesterday and the fit of dread it put me into spiralled into a full-blown breakdown by the end of the night. dramatic I know but hear me out. ik people had mixed reactions to it but the relief and joy i felt the night of 268 leaks when I saw all the first years alive and together again was unmatched. after weeks of anxiety and trying to make peace with the fact that either megumi or yuuji would most likely not make it, suddenly it looked like everything would be ok. with those leaks i was SO happy to be in this fandom i was so happy to be making art for my favourite characters and to be able to watch them pull through. the thought of getting slapped in the face fr embracing that joy by a twist dream/unreality ending Hurts. I'm right back in the same anxiety that 2 days ago I thought was behind me.

re: the theory itself. i definitely think it's interesting and god knows i'm not well-versed in the manga enough to offer evidence against it , however comma for the sake of my own sanity I don't want to believe it. Even if it means that the ending we do get isn't satisfying from a writing or character standpoint, I don't want to believe that gege would be so cruel as to tear away even this rushed happiness at the last minute. Personally I don't think it's feasible for a single chapter and I definitely don't see surprise killing off a main character(s) as an ending that will satisfy the majority of audience members. call me delusional for it idc i cried enough last night i'm apathetic as fuck today.

CW: suicide, commitment, psychosis

My sibling is someone who unequivocally says being committed saved their life and was not inherently traumatic outside of the extremely traumatic mental health crisis that led to it. (However, our local psych ER/psych inpatient is probably one of the better ones and does not use any kind of restraints or force medication. They seem to have an okay track record explaining what the pills are and asking if the person can try them, which I get can still be coercive in some cases, but worked well with my sibling. Also, I was visiting them as much as I could every day, which they found really helpful, and I could keep my eye out for any issues.)

My sibling (~30) had a severe psychotic episode that doesn't quite fit any current DSM diagnosis. They went 0 to 100 from no suicidal ideation to actively attempting suicide in front of me due to delusions about being hunted by supernatural entities who would torture them. They finally could not sleep for days, and therefore I could not go to sleep because they'd try to kill themself. They were not dangerous to me intentionally, but one or both of us could have been hurt by me trying to take a weapon from them. They could not think at all outside of panic and delusions and had no short term memory, so they describe themself as having been incapable of understanding their condition. They weren't able to engage with any social interventions, because how would you have the time or bandwidth if you were living in terror of demons about to torture you and couldn't remember conversations from an hour ago?

They went to the hospital voluntarily after being stopped from attempting, but then they were committed because of aforementioned memory issues when they shortly informed the doctors they had to leave and kill themself. In a moment of lucidity, they were glad to be there, but they just couldn't stay lucid from moment to moment. Trying to get outpatient help in the weeks all this was escalating had been fruitless, with a lot of dismissive assholes, but these particular inpatient docs actually cared and asked how they were doing and figured out a dose of antipsychotics that made it all just... stop like a switch had been flipped.

Once they weren't operating under the terrifying delusions, they 100% did not want to die and were so relieved I stopped them and got help from others when it was becoming too dangerous to us both for me to intervene alone. I get that this kind of crisis is really different from living with chronic suicidal ideation or depression, which is something I personally deal with on a low level, but it was a genuine, terrifying situation where someone's expressed wishes were the opposite of what they wanted when they could understand their situation more fully.

I am allowed to share this, but if this is somehow not on anon, please delete it. Stigma about psychosis is REAL.

Yo this is super helpful, thank you for sharing. One of the trickier aspects of upholding disabled people's autonomy and taking a harm reductionist approach to suicide and self-harm is the fact that people in a state of psychosis may temporarily want something they would otherwise never want.

Though with some experience working through it with a caring and informed support network, it is possible to stand in for the person's stated desires and help them get through the period of lacking lucidity -- and of course psychosis can become a lot less destabilizing with time. i know someone who relies on a close friend to help ground them when they're having delusions and hallucinations -- a quick phone call is now enough to convince them they don't need to kill themselves, but that's after years of getting used to having psychotic states.

day 9 in endhawks hell (actually over a year in endhawks hell but moving on):

not one to spread apocryphal info on the internet but my very unverified source (my friend) told me that losing a right arm in anime/japanese media symbolizes shame, disgrace, some other kinda downfall, or the need to redeem oneself. to be clear i have not found an actual source on this, but it definitely would explain a LOT (tears of the kingdom, aot, fma, hunter x hunter, so many more)

and big surprise, that all 100% tracks with endeavor's loss of his arm. if we were to assume all the symbolism is true and accurately described by me (which i encourage not to assume outside of this post), it's very interesting that endeavor loses it in the afo fight protecting hawks rather than in his fight with touya.

it should be noted that him losing his temper is what indirectly places hawks (and tokoyami and jiro) in danger, bc his rage at afo opened him up to injury and being absent from part of the fight in the first place. i also appreciate that, when hawks shouts at endeavor to "keep a cool head" in the face of afo's psychological warfare and endeavor fails to do so, hawks very clearly doesn't view this as weakness, but as a natural human reaction and is mainly worried about him--whereas endeavor is furious with himself right after the fact.

he says it outright in the text--that from the beginning, the whole tragedy, even his rage at afo leading to his current injury, is all only made possible because of the wounds he inflicted on his family in the first place. it's also notable that endeavor's inability to manage his anger, rather than having anger at all, was a core aspect of his abusive outbursts in the past, and his initial fall to afo in this fight. his temper continues to be a source of problems for himself and those around him.

and while endeavor made an overt mistake, hawks made a covert one: it is confronting his own emotions, rather than shutting them away (making a "clean break", as it were), that allows endeavor to re-enter the fight in full.

in result, endeavor's struggles with his own shame create an opportunity for hawks to be killed, but in accepting his shame, he saves him. (aside: the playful echo of "keep a cool head" in the above panel is so ridiculous. non-judgmental, trusting, teasing--knowing, yet forgiving/appreciative--like hawks and his intern hadn't just nearly died, lmao. arms were lost but there's always time to squeeze in a wisecrack)

this also fits well with hawks initially thinking that it's because endeavor is in an emotionally vulnerable place that he couldn't fight touya without losing (read: dying).

hawks initially felt certain that endeavor needed his support and protection because the man wasn't shutting his emotions away--but it's after endeavor is able to resurge back with his emotionality intact that hawks reverses his decision and is the one encouraging him to be the one to confront touya. and with full confidence! (the, uh, touya fight was a hair's breadth from ~not going well~, but let's not tell hawks that right now lol)

to slightly shift back to this "clean break" moment: by contrasting himself against endeavor, who is trying to do better = still vulnerable to the past = has emotions that the enemy can exploit, hawks implies that he doesn't see himself as being the same on *any* of those counts, which is a sad thing to realize. shutting off his heart? not being a better person than he was before? this implication would have benefitted from more intentional and clear closure in the manga (i think the single tiny frame of hawks talking with tokoyami in 430 is just *fine*, ish), but at any rate, endeavor certainly sets a solid example of a person learning to open themself up to these sorts of things, and those lessons are ones hawks could very much use.

anyway, in short, thematically/symbolically/what-have-you, endeavor's work towards atoning for his family, taking more emotional accountability, and accepting emotions rather than rejecting them is connected to inspiring hawks, doing right by him, and even saving him a second time.

Lewis Hamilton Aspects

Someone had asked that I take a look at Lewis's aspects and see what I think about them. I had some free time this morning so I went ahead with that! I'll get back to some of the other readings when I have more time, but this is usually pretty quick for me!

Conjunctions (Brings intensity):

Sun & Jupiter - This conjunction seems really spot on, from my very limited knowledge (thank you anonymous folks that continue to teach me about F1). This Conjunction is an understated sense of humor, but mainly being incredibly cultured and well-versed in intellect.

Venus & Mars - While I typically try to stay away from the more sexualized aspects of astrology, this placement literally fucks. It's the meeting of the pleasure planet and the action planet, there is a dominant factor here, but also a sensuous and loving part to it.

Mercury & Neptune - Lewis 100% is a spiritual person, I have no doubts about it anymore with this conjunction. There is a lot of creativity in this conjunction as well, so I wouldn't be shocked to see a development of more artistic endeavors (doesn't he make music or something?).

Oppositions (Imbalance):

Sun & Moon - I see a lot of challenges here, mainly with the self and internal feelings. There is a lot to Lewis's chart that points to loyalty being something that he really values, so I think that there is a high chance that if he feels like he has been disloyal, or feels himself wavering in loyalty to someone (or something) there is a lot of internalized guilt about it. It's possible too that there is an influx of emotions, and it can sometimes lead to emotional sensitivity that isn't exactly fitting.

Moon & Jupiter - Lewis may be overzealous in setting goals for himself, some achievable and some out of reach. The tendency to set goals that are unreachable definitely impacts the mental state and confidence.

Squares (Challenges):

Mars & Uranus - With everything else in his chart, I don't think this square will bring too many challenges. I definitely think that Lewis will have to take more time and work more when it comes to conflict with others, those in positions of power specifically. With how stubborn and emotional his chart tells me he is, I definitely think that any sort of argument or conflict becomes nearly a marathon.

Is this their idea of an April Fool’s joke? Yes. Am I going to take this 100% seriously and at face value? Also yes.

This is mostly a cleaned up collection of my insaneposting from other places (cough Twitter and Discord) so these thoughts may be sporadic. And nonsensical. And filled with so much copium.

First major comment! Their revue outfits are almost entirely black. This also includes their undershirts, which one should note are - by default - white for Class A. Not only does this work as representing the difference between Classes A and B (Class A get white undershirts while Class B get black ones), but this choice of palette for their outfits is almost certainly a reference to the traditional wear of stagehands: they typically wear black or other dark clothes as a means of making sure they remain unseen during performances. Invisible, away from the spotlight, if you will.

Should note that this is mostly an anime-to-game thing, since Sakura Yanagi’s uniform in the stageplays is uniquely colored and features a white undershirt. However, one can also probably reason this is because Sakura outright reawakens as a stage girl, whereas we (currently) know nothing about the context for the Amemiya and Masai revue drip.

Another point: wow, their weapons are very silly. Byproduct of this entire thing being an April Fool’s addition and all. Yet in spite of them being supposed gag weapons, they actually do fit the two of them to a degree, even as jokes? Bear with me here.

Amemiya’s is mostly self-explanatory. She’s the scriptwriter. Her weapons are her words and this is pretty much a literal representation of that. Something something pen power sword. The thing is very stupid but it’s also very blunt and straightfoward in the same way Amemiya is.

Masai’s is REALLY silly... she’s gonna DECK you with her FOG MACHINE. There’s still cohesion here, though, albeit if it’s a bit straw-graspy. The “kiri” in her given name, Kiriko, literally means fog, so there’s that. There’s also the fact that - from what little we know of her - Masai herself is somewhat non-confrontational, preferring to avoid conflict for the sake of keeping peace (since Amemiya has to be the one to step in and fully reject Kaoruko back in Episode 6, not Masai), but when she needs to stand her ground, she does so well (see Gekijouban). Her having a rather unorthodox, ineffective-seeming weapon kind of works in her favor and represents this aspect of her; it’s a fog machine so it can produce a means of allowing her to hide and avoid attacks, but since it’s a blunt force weapon if swung at someone, it hits hard when it counts.

So honestly for an April Fool’s addition, this hits. Rare Class B content win for us!!!!!!

I think it's fantastic that pride exists, but I've personally never wanted to participate in a parade or really been able to relate to to it at all, and I guess I'm worried that that makes me not a proper true queer? Sounds stupid, I know, but for all that I'm bi (but also aspec, so I don't date much full stop, so never get clocked as anything except straight-with-spinster-tendencies) and nb (but while I go by they/them, the way I tend to present means to an outside observer I look cis 99 out of 100 times) I'm also a very... how do I put this? Not traditional, I can't f-ing stand tradition... conventional and boring person and it does sometimes feel like I'm being shamed or guilted for wanting a too 'cishet' life, instead of fully embracing the queer aesthetic and lifestyle in all aspects. It's just not my thing, I'm afraid and I worry that's going to leave me isolated, that I'm never going to find my people, my place where I belong or fit in, and instead always be stuck as an outsider between two groups. Not quite normal enough to be socially acceptable, not quite different or abnormal enough to fit into or be welcome in a queer community that sometimes seems to require being true to yourself to mean consistent willful immediately-outwardly-visible defiance of all social conventions and expectations and not accept anything less than that. And that, especially when pride month rolls around, can just be a really lonely and scary feeling.

... sorry for word-vomiting this on you, but I needed to get this off my chest, and sometimes it's easier to dump stuff on strangers on the internet than on people you know irl and need to continue to face every day, you know?

Sorry to hear you feel so alone. You’re definitely not alone — the queer community has plenty of people who present “conventionally” but you might not notice them because you assume they’re cishet ;)

I think we’re all part of this community and there’s no right or wrong aesthetic or wrong way to live your life. As long as you support (the rights of) those who can’t “pass” as well as you. And if any people ever make YOU feel unwelcome, those are not people worth your time.

Meanwhile just because you are more “conventionally looking” / “passing” doesn’t mean you can’t have a queer community. The fact that you’re on tumblr probably means you already have an online queer community that you fit into.

But out there, there might be activities you fit more into. For example if you like reading you can seek out a queer reading group and make queer friends you share an interest with regardless of whether or not people “present” queer. A lot of hobbies have queer groups :)

Also as a small side note i understand not being interested in “participating in a parade” but just to be clear it’s first and foremost a protest. The celebration of queerness is an empowering part of pride but the protest part is still very much necessary. There are still rights to be fought for in every country. Conservatism is rising and we shouldn’t be complacent. Any rights you and i might have, have been achieved because of the relentless work of activists and also pride protests.

That said, you don’t have to participate in pride if you don’t want to, of course.

This had been speculated before but this is definitely the first confirmation. Now, in terms of questions? Was lu guang just using his powers normally during the scene at the con and didn't want the others to see? If so, is what we saw as the audience what *he* sees? That would imply he gets rather more context than we'd previously thought. Could just be letting the audience know the backstory though and has no impact on how his powers work. Net zero info ig.

confirmed lg can supposedly see into the future with his power. Not taking this at 100% face value considering how dodgy lu guang is around their powers and the fact he's keeping track of timings so thoroughly but at least at this point, he's claiming it's the case, so.

makes me wonder if his notes on timings are from previous loops or if he's just spamming photos when he's worried about something and noting down the timings (hospital-boat arc???)

so many xia fei cameos. I wasn't counting but there were at least three and curiously he appears plenty *before* anyone is even in yingdu (and we know he's got plenty of billboards over there). He's got some global reach for someone who appears zero times in s1 and s2 (which could just be down to them not having written him yet but does make his absence previously more obvious by comparison)

somehow there's *more* prominence on clocks/watches than even normal link click (makes sense as lu guang himself has such a focus on them and we're way more in his pov now). Interestingly though, I don't *think* we saw the time at the beginning when cxs was in the dark room

oh also! when lu guang expects cheng xiaoshi to ask how he "divined" the answer and cxs essentially says he'll wait for lg to tell him + him mentioning he'd sensed lg was hiding something from the very start. sth sth works on a broader scale than just the initial power reveal

also gdi no homura fan lu guang reveal. he gets his time travel stories from other anime, smh

belated realisation edit: lu guang clapped his hands when he checked the photo at the con. This *could* indicate cxs-style diving but I somewhat doubt this both because lg is implied to now be stuck in this time and also because time passes parallel between the inside and outside of a photo so he couldn't speedrun a full dive in the few seconds he took? in which case, is he just clapping because he himself doesn't realise yet he can activate his own powers without clapping? would fit with this reading as an earlier lg. hard to decide what happened there for sure without more info though tbh

Alright so I’ve finally finished all of Make Your Mark on Netflix (I have no interest in Tell Your Tale) and, well… I certainly have thoughts. Unfortunately I felt MLP G5 (even including A New Generation) was pretty weak. I don't HATE G5 of course, but it certainly has problems. Not counting the ton of continuity errors and plot holes and retcons from G4, most of the episodes + specials on their own I found flat and boring.

And yes I KNOW that G5 deserves to be its own thing and shouldn’t rely 100% on G4’s popularity but come on… a sequel series still needs SOME connection to its predecessor, and G5 has so little of it?? And the worst part is that the super sparse FIM references were for legal reasons, which makes me even wonder why bother setting it in the same universe as G4 instead of just making a complete reboot. And yes I’ve heard that the G5 comics actually go deeper into the lore, but important worldbuilding details should be included in the show proper, not in supplemental materials. 

So yeah, that only inspired me to make even more changes for my MLP next gen AU. Starting with a bunch of different ideas I have for Opaline. More details about my revamped design and backstory for her under the cut

First off, her canon design is way too gaudy and takes away a lot of her intended scare factor, so I redesigned her with multiple variants. For all versions I removed her blue eyeshadow and the braids around her ears (too ridiculous-looking and difficult for me to draw), and made her hair a bit more asymmetrical. 

As for my version of her backstory, rather than Opaline being over a thousand years old and having known Celestia and Luna when they were fillies, I made Opaline a former student of Twilight who became her successor as the next Alicorn Princess. Only Opaline didn't do a great job as a ruler which caused Twilight to drain her of her magic and banish her to the outskirts of Equestria.

But after Twilight died of old age (don't ask me why Twilight didn't find a new successor, still working that out) the magic shield locking Opaline outside Equestria faded and allowed her back in. So she was the one who caused disharmony between ponies all over again (yeah kind of a repeat of the Nightmare Moon situation but), and additionally kidnapped Misty as a filly to use her as a spy and do tasks to help Opaline get her powers back, including her wanting to steal dragon fire to become a fire Alicorn like in canon.

Made this change for two reasons 1) the whole “ancient villain who knew Celestia and Luna back in the day escaped now and is planning to wreak havoc on modern Equestria” has been done a hundred times already in FIM, let a new villain form literally during Twilight’s reign 2) it would keep the rejection aspect of Opaline's canon backstory but give her more personal beef with Twilight which is why Opaline targets her

so my AU wouldn't just have all ponies restore unity and then have Opaline just come as a threat right after like A New Generation + Make Your Mark did. Achieving harmony between pony AND non-pony kind would be done over the course of a series and not just one movie, with Equestria being restored + Misty being freed after Opaline's defeat. The Unity Crystals still play a role in my AU, with Twilight having created them as a new alternative to the Elements of Harmony rather than just a macguffin to stop Opaline specifically.

Also if it were up to me I like my #3 redesign the best, the blue hues would probably fit the best for a fire-based villain (fire being blue when it's hottest and all) but that depends on if/when I wanna draw my AU Opaline in the future

thoughts on a certain fleshy pink monster under the cut

So the show is canon, right? Todd Howard said so, apparently, and yeah, to my moderately trained eye the show js remarkably accurate. The ghoul vials are a new thing, but they're wholly NEW, so I think they work out fine, especially since they're in California well over 100 years after the time of the last game that took place there. It's totally believable to me that the medication was invented after FO1 and remains a regional thing. I think a drug that can prevent a ghoul from going feral but is very expensive and only avaliable and known in a certain area is a neat concept that fits right in with the worldbuilding (if only Oswald The Outrageous could know about this...).

However, I'm here to talk about the one lore aspect of the show I find somewhat problematic: the gulper. In their debut in Far Harbor and in 76 after that, gulpers were simply mutated salamanders that had evolved to be massive bipedal apex predators, filling an ecological niche on the island of Far Harbor left open by the lack of deathclaws and serving as competition to them in the swampy areas of 76's Appalachia. Cool beans, cool monster, all's good.

Then in the show there's a "gulper" that's the result of human genetic experimentation. Is this an inconsistency?

There are a few ways I can interpret this:

- Californian gulpers are a different species from East Coast gulpers, and are called by the same name due to their similarities.

- The "rad-resistant species" Vault 4 was crossbreeding humans with were gulpers (scrap of evidence: the pregnant woman in the video Lucy finds seemingly birthing tadpoles, which are the larval form of salamanders. Also the "slow digestion" that leads to a stomach full of random objects and animal parts, like how the gulpers are always full of random items in the games)

- Human originating gulpers and "natural" gulpers live side by side in Cali and are regarded as one species

- This is a retcon, and all gulpers are now the result of human experimentation (don't believe this one tbh)

@faejilly so @saeths and I were talking about how Magnus has a reputation in the mundane underworld because sometimes he has to get involved when magical drugs and etc move over. Plus business deals.

And Alec has like no mundane identity and at first they (mundane ppl) think he’s muscle/bodyguard but Alec gets huffy the first and only time they try to send ‘entertainment’ to him and Magnus and Magnus has a very quiet and intimidating word.

So Alec becomes known through mundane circles as Magnus’ mob wife (cause it’s a position not a gender) and everyone tries to avoid saying it around alec ‘cause he’s scary and stereotypes’

And when alec ‘finds out’ —he’s actually knows for ages— He’s 100% okay with it because 1) it’s a mundane title and he could care less what mundanes think of him unless it could hurt Magnus’ rep 2) he’d rather be called Magnus’ wife than his bodyguard 3) it means he doesn’t have to bother the clave or magnus for a mundane identity

Alec keeps getting chatted up by trophy wife’s and arm pieces and is So Confused™️ because on one hand, he totally gets these really weird mundane women who aggressively Support their husbands, but also they all start crying when he mentions that he and Magnus had to get new rugs because he tracked too much blood in the house and brain matter is apparently a biohazard

Alec with all these super jeweled up women flipping out three throwing knives: Magnus wanted to put diamonds on them, but it would have thrown off the weight

An actual mob wife later to her mob boss husband: honey look, the girls and I can’t take much more of this. Just let Magnus bring his boy in with him

Mob husband: magnus talks about him like he’s crystallized honey. No way trophy wife like him can handle our convos

Mob wife the next event chugging Chardonnay and long islands

Alec: Magnus got me this new poison, apparently it can’t be tasted once it’s added to water and turned to ice.

Mob wife to waiter: another Long Island. On the rocks. Double rocks. No make it triple. (Yes this is in response to Alec mentioning deadly ice. She has Hope).

This has only been like, four meetings btw. Alec was trying So Hard™️ to blend in with mundanes.

Alec also hates Long Islands ice teas and Chardonnay. And Pinot noir. If you offer him an old fashion (he hates Lorenzo) he’ll pour it on your shoes.

He also fits in very well because he talks about how Magnus sometimes helps picks his clothes and takes him shopping. And how he makes breakfast. And is constantly picking up whatever Magnus tosses (a few spell books and always Alec’s work phone). Magnus normally orders drinks for him to try (he has more experience and knows Alec’s palette) and Alec is generally just very quiet for the most part because he 1) has no interest in talking with mundanes and is only doing this because he knows it’s important to Magnus and he didn’t like Magnus being offered entertainment (he trusts Magnus 100% it’s just irritates him). 2) is naturally quiet and likes to observe 3) it takes the women two times to notice he’s there and two times for them to beg for him to never come again 4) Alec has no understanding of mundane gender roles, mundane underworld roles, mundane life, crime life or etc so he doesn’t make sense and no one makes sense to him.

Magnus just loves Alec and likes him being involved in all aspects of his life and Magnus and Cat are both are giant trolls. They dish over brunch every month that these meetings happen. Magnus has surveillance spells so she and cat can watch Alec and mob wives talk. Alec knows that Magnus has spells.

They are all awful trolls of mundanes and it’s 100% amazing.

Alec when he’s ‘allowed’ in the ‘important’ meeting and he doesn’t give a single solitary fuck and just snuggles up to magnus and reads his book because he’s bored af.

Magnus: he won’t be pulled away from his book for anything less that a natural disaster, you mentioned there was a chemical explosion?
