The AI Situation

So I am getting genuinely worried about people who are posting the whole "if you reblog AI I am blocking you" not because of the post (because honestly, fuck AI, there are thousands of people producing art for free on the daily, how about supporting them instead?) but because sometimes I literally cannot tell!

I'm not an artist. Sometimes I can look at one and even to my untrained eye I'm like "Oh yeah, that whole thing is weird, that's AI," and other times I follow @batwynn's really good post about spotting AI.

The problem comes in when you literally can't tell. I had an artist in another fandom post a complaint about AI art and showed what the art looked like, and I spent literally 5 minutes staring at it trying to figure out how they knew it was AI because they didn't explain it, but a whole bunch of other artists in the replies confirmed it absolutely looked AI-generated and for the life of me, I couldn't see it. And I still can't.

So I guess this is my ask to artists to please be patient with non-artists as some of us legitimately care and do NOT want to reblog AI art, but it's not always evident to us. So if you see us reblog AI art, feel free to let us know. If someone clearly shows they don't care, or they don't delete the AI art once notified it is AI, then obviously have at it. But for some of us, if we reblog AI art because we literally cannot tell because all the things we're looking for to notice they are AI are not there, please just tell us and we'll delete the art.

I don't want to start avoiding traditional art because I'm worried about being blocked for reblogging something that was AI generated. The fandom oldies are safe because most people know their style, but it's upsetting for the new artists and I don't want to stop supporting people because I'm worried about being blocked because I have an untrained eye and am doing my best :(

The worst thing is that there is so much potential for exploring the horror of psych wards from the angle of medical abuse, ableism, forced treatment/drugging, loss of autonomy, power imbalance, demonization, dehumanization, etc, and YET the horror genre keeps defaulting to "insane asylums and psych wards are scary because there are mentally ill people in there"

So apparently I haven't been active on Tumblr for a year, which just goes to show how fast time can go when things are crazy ahaha, sorry?

I just went through my whole dash back a whole year (I am OCD, it had to be done or I'd explode, and don't ask how long it took, the answer is too long. Positive note though, Tumblr does let you go back that far, it just freezes every 5 seconds and makes your browser weep).

Anyway, all this to say I am going to be responding to asks for the next little bit, but I don't want to like, bombard people with asks so I'm going to space them out in the queue along with art and whatnot. Anyone who doesn't want to see responses to asks can blacklist "Blood's yakkity yaks."

Also because I loaded my queue up back a year, I might have accidentally crossed wires on some things that belong on my other blogs, so if I messed up and put non TW stuff on here that's not tagged "Not TW," it means it was an accident and feel free to let me know. (Also please tell me if I reblogged AI art, I noticed a few while going through my dash but some might have slipped through the cracks given how many things I was staring at the whole time I did this).

Moral of the story: If you have OCD and have to go back to the last thing you saw on your dash, do not ignore your dash for a year because you will suffer.

Overview of some topics when it comes to drawing characters who are burn survivors.

DISCLAIMER. Please keep in mind that this is an introductory overview for drawing some burn scars and has a lot of generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People. I'm calling this introductory because I hope to get people to actually do their own research before drawing disabled & visibly different characters rather than just making stuff up. Think of it as a starting point and take it with a grain of salt (especially if you have a very different art style from mine).

Talking about research and learning... don't make your burn survivor characters evil. Burn survivors are normal people and don't deserve to be constantly portrayed in such a way.

Not a single one of these drawings or pictures is a fresh injury. All of them are healed. How the hell would you feel if someone tagged a photo of you as "trigger warning: gore"?

Disabled people are not your fucking body horror. Grow up.
