portraits - norray one shot

based off a prompt

Norman grabbed some pencils and paper from his office drawer. He walked out to the dining room, that table having more space than his small desk. It could really only fit his computer, binder and a mug if he was lucky.

“Ray, come here please!” he shouted before placing down all the drawing supplies; spreading them out neatly. Norman really only got three to four papers.

A minute ticked by and Ray appeared at the doorway. “Whatcha’ need?” he was genuinely curious. But he noticed the art stuff and it clicked. “You want to draw?” Ray had a small smile.

Norman nodded, “Yes! If you don’t mind.” he returned the grin with one that was much brighter. They didn’t really draw together that often, but, it was always fun whenever they did.

Ray pulled out a chair and took a seat by his lover.

“Anything specific you want to draw?” Ray picked up his pencil, holding it gently in his right hand. He watched as Norman picked it up with his left. Normally, he’d draw anything, because just the presence of one another was soothing.

The younger male hummed. “I wanted to draw each other. Maybe I can work on my realism.” Norman was able to draw magnificent animals, owls being his specialty, but he did struggle with humans.

“Alright.” Ray ruffled his hair.

Norman fiddled with his pencil happily. He looked nervous, but Ray assumed he was just trying to hold back patting his hands against his legs, in excitement. That was one of Norman’s physical responses to things— to convey certain emotions.

They started to draw, Ray sketched out an outline of Norman’s head. He was phenomenal at art. Ray wanted to have Norman smiling in the picture.. adding every little detail carefully. It was just printer paper, so it was difficult to blend on. Ray had to just shade with his pencil and eraser.

Norman bit his lip, trying his best to make the Ray look as realistic as possible. That’s why he got extra paper— he’d mess up.

Ray peered over Norman’s head. “Looks good so far, darling.” He knew that Norman was getting anxious over it, but he also knew that no matter how it looked, he’d treasure it.

Ray quickly finished up his sketch, it was just good as the rest of his drawings. But, he didn’t want that to discourage Norman.

He waited a few minutes for Norman to finish his. In that time, Ray added a few more details. Little freckles across his nose and flecks of reflection in his eyes.

Norman awkwardly held his drawing.

It looked uneven to him.

Ray smiled. “Here’s your’s.” he scooted the paper over to Norman with his fingertips.

Norman’s heart melted at the picture. It was very well done— Ray even added a background to it. Fall leaves fell from the surrounding trees as he smiled happily. It reminded him of a polaroid Ray took of him during one of their first years dating. How did Ray remember that moment so perfectly?

He sighed and gave Ray his sketch. “Your’s is very pretty Ray.. I hope you like mine.”

It was a still image of Ray. He noticed all of the detail Norman tried putting into the strands of hair. Norman was so scared that Ray wouldn’t like it because he wasn’t some master at drawing people, but he knew he tried his best.

Ray moved to kiss Norman’s cheek. “I love it, don’t worry.”

gillian & emma made ray little stuffed keychains of all the people ray’s close to (it took a lot of work, but they’re determined) as a birthday gift

norman bought him a new polaroid camera

ray lets jemima and alicia, etc braid his hair and put colourful clips on his fringe

lucas makes ray’s cake and yuugo shows his love in his own way (being yuugo)

isabella feels bad for her past mistakes, but ray forgives her and just wants to spend time with his mother with no tension or lies for once
