also, my controversial take is that too many people hate on candy corn. to lore drop, i worked at this weird on-campus candy store during my undergrad and when i was the supervisor got to order all the candy (and because it was bulk candy for a full campus, i spent roughly $60k a year on candy, unrestricted, as a 20yo). obviously, i tried it all, and the candy corn was good!!! people need to retry it if they haven’t in a few years. i’m passionate about this!

After weeks and weeks of organizing, writing and drawing. Fandoms United for Hurricane Relief is proud to present the Helene Collection!!!

The Helene Collection is a 300+ page digital anthology of 30+ fanworks from writers and artists from the Hunger Games community to raise money for those affected by the devastation of Hurricane Helene.

Calling on all Hunger Games fanfic readers and writers!

To combat developers monetizing fanfic with AI voices, this year I'm hosting a Hunger Games Valentine's Podfic Exchange for Valentine's Day.

💌 What it is

Sign up as a podficcer and/or a fanfic author. I'll match up a podficcer to their "valentine" (a fanfic author) and set up a collection on ao3 for all of the podfic.

💌 Who can participate?

Anyone with an ao3 account can be a podficcer. Yes, even with your accent! Yes, even with just your phone to record! I promise, you're better than any AI voice because you're human.

The works getting the podfic treatment are all part of the Hunger Games/TBOSAS fandom. Any pairing or OC is ok! The only limit is that no podficcer will be expected to record for a work longer than 3k words, whether it's a one-shot or a chapter from a longer work.

💌 How?

Sign up with the google form here by January 7. We'll have podficcers and valentines matched by January 14, so keep an eye on the communication method you choose on the google form! I'll be posting some resources for free audio editing/tips to also help out. Once you have your podfic made, create a work on ao3 that is "inspired by" the original fanfiction (if it is on ao3) or link to it if it's hosted on another site, and then in the work include a link(s) to where the podfic is hosted (google drive, internet archive, spotify, youtube, etc). You will be able to submit to the ao3 collection on February 12 and the collection will go live on February 14 at 6:00 am PST.

💌 Why should I join?

Some people prefer to listen to audiobooks for a variety of reasons, including accessibility, and this helps expand their options for listening to fanfiction. It's a fun fandom-building activity. And as mentioned before, there have been a couple of attempts to monetize fanfiction with AI reading fanfic and this is a way to throw up a middle finger at this effort and give a gift to fanfiction authors.

i participated in the collection! here’s a snippet from my fic:

Haymitch sits there, letting the boy take in the sight of him. Acclimate to his intruder. When the beeping from the machines he’s attached to starts to slow down, Haymitch breaks the silence. “Hey, kid,” is all he can initially think to say.

Peeta’s eyes narrow. “What do you want?” he asks, and from the sound of his voice, he doesn’t really care about the answer. Good thing Haymitch has been dealing with him long enough to ignore the kid’s wants for his own good.

“Not sure. Seems like your doctors got sick of watching you lay here all day while Delly yaps her head off. Wanted a better show.”

So you told me to let you know when I had anything to say about Stargate Atlantis.

I have been binge watching several episodes a day. I'm up to season 3, episode 17, the episode where Carson Beckett died. Very sad. He was such a compassionate character.

My favorite character is McKay, especially after his enlightenment from working with his sister, meeting the alternate reality version of himself in Rod, and then almost ascending. He has had some really great episodes.

I had to block the tag sga so I won't see anymore spoilers. I know we lose Dr. Weir soon. That is going to be awful, I'm sure.

I did want to ask you, is sparky a ship name for Weir and Sheppard? Where does that comes from? I don’t get it.

Hi there! So glad you messaged me about this. I've been wondering if you were still watching.

Yes, Sparky is the ship name for Weir and Sheppard. It got that name early on in the fandom times because all of the name portmanteaus were very ugly (I mean... Shweir, Jizabeth? They all sound like social diseases). So someone randomly started calling them Sparky and it stuck. I know there's a post out there with the full details but I can't find it. Oh, and Ronon/Teyla is called Spanky.

Oh, you just watched Tao of Rodney which is my favorite single episode (The Storm/The Eye is my fave 2-parter). I just love that episode!

And yes, Dr. Weir is going soon. And frankly, I hate most of seasons 4 and 5 without her. She's my favorite character, so.....
