Part 1 starts with the first victim of the four supernatural phenomena/the nasty things that'll be occuring later on in this book.

Rereading this really makes me appreciate how good Kaminaga-sensei is at building up the tension and picking your curiosity.

Especially in this form since one chapter is translated per month (or two I think (?))

Waiting every two months for a chapter is WAY better than reading the whole thing in one sitting if you ask me.

The emptiness I felt after reading this in 2019 and that major cliff hanger was just too much to handle.

Part 2 jumps to Yakumo's POV A.K.A the best POV of the series.

Now I have a lot to say on this one, so I'll be making a separate post later.

But, omg the way he smiled just thinking about her? Boy is the standard FR

It's good to see Gotou doing well after his accident in volume 10. I do wonder how he'll handle the events that are about to occur in this volume tho.

The hug between Gotou and Nao is just too precious, and the fact that Atsuko referred to him as dad. Blood relation? Who needs that?

Unfortunately, Eishin just HAD to end his momentary happiness.

He'll never escape Eishin. Not even in Shin • Yakumo haha.

Love the Ishii and Miyagawa duo. Ngl I do miss when Gotou and Ishii used to investigate together, but this duo isn't bad either.

You can tell Miyagawa's respect for Ishii definitely increased, ESPECIALLY since volume 9.

When I first read this volume in 2019 I didn't find it odd that Yakumo made up a lie and tricked the student affairs to get a key to the warehouse, but now that I'm rereading it, will Mizukawa REALLY believe that Yakumo decided to help out voluntarily just like that? Not to mention that Mizukawa isn't the only student affairs member Yakumo was involved with.

I wonder if this little detail will change in the complete version?

Yakumo supporting Haruka when she was about to fall is so cute.

The chapter ends with them discovering Unkai's corpse. I think I'm starting to understand the direction Kaminaga-sensei is going for. I've ALWAYS been interested in the circumstances regarding Unkai's death.

Overall, an excellent intro to the tragic incident that shocked Japan.

You blink at the yellow creature, surprise making your eyes widen. "I-I can't eat raw fish," you repeat, picking up the fish with disgust on your face. You lean forward and hold the fish back out to it, somehow managing a weary smile. "You eat it."

The mer looks back at you silently for a moment before snatching the fish back and putting it into its own mouth. It doesn't seem to chew it at all, which only makes the look of disgust reappear on your face. But then it looks back at you, and you find yourself giggling. "You're weird," you say in between giggles. The mermaid blinks at you in confusion again, not understanding what was funny.

When you finally calm down, a question forms in your head. "Do you have a name?" you ask, now scooting closer to it. It nods aggressively.

"Sss... Ssssuu-" it struggles, making weird hissing and garbling sounds as it attempts to speak again. You wait patiently for it to figure it out. "Sss- Uuu- Nnn. Ssuunn. Sun!" it says, now waving its arms around excitedly. You smile.

"Your name is Sun?" you confirm, and he nods, repeating his name eagerly, which only makes you giggle. "Okay, mister Sun! Well its nice to meet you!" you greet, sticking your hand out to the mermaid. He pauses his repeating of his name to stare at your hand curiously.

"Sun?" he asks, pointing to himself. You realize he doesn't fully understand everything you're saying and doing, which only makes you more determined to get your point across.

"Yes, you are Sun," you say, pointing to him. You then point to yourself and tell him your name. You then hold your hand out again, but grab it with your other hand. "You shake hands with someone when you want to be friends! At least, that's what all of the adults do..." 

"Fff- Friennnd?" Sun repeats, tilting his head to the side. You give him a look of sympathy.

"Yeah, friends. Don't you have any friends?" The mermaid shakes his head, and you perk back up, closing the gap between you now so that you sit right in front of him. "Well now you do! I'm your friend!"

"Friend," he repeats again, pressing his finger to your chest.

Okay so, good news. No, I still haven't able to make much progress with the next chapter of Roads, but, I have decided to completely scrap a plot point I had planned for the story, which means we'll be getting the happy ending sooner than 2040.

Now, I'm sure some of you will think this is not good news. Like "Nooo, give us everything!! Don't cut the story short!!" But trust me when I say that it is for the best. If anything, this will save us both some unnecessary drama so that I can focus on the real drama and eventual resolution of the fic. If any of you are curious about what was the plot point I discarded, I'll tell you once the fic is finished or close enough to finished that it no longer matters.

As to why I decided to scrap this plot point, believe it or not, it wasn't because I'm desperate to finish this story sooner. The reason is simply that I grew up. You need to understand, many, if not all, of my ideas for this fic have existed since 2018 or 2019. That's 5 or 6 years ago. A lot has changed since then, especially regarding my writing and what I consider good writing. So, while back then this plot point seemed like a good idea, now I look at it and I can't help but feel like it's... stupid? I mean, technically plausible but by a stretch, and it doesn't add anything to the story that I can not add later in a different way or context, and it just would be filler, you know? Like, delaying the inevitable. And not even good filler.

So, that's my reason for scrapping it, and like I said, I'm pretty sure this is the best call for the story and for you guys. I can't tell if this will mean less chapters overall or if it'll still be 40; you know how I am, my writing is unpredictable and I tend to make things longer than I plan to. Just know that whatever I end up conjuring is the absolute best I could come up with.
