There's no way you're making that much in the stock market. You would need $100,000 AT LEAST.

??? I don't trade in the stock market. I trade futures. For the exact reason you point out. You need next to nothing to do what I'm doing.

For example, let's say I want to trade 1 S&P 500 micro futures contract (what you would think of as a share in the stock market world) because i don't have a lot of $$$ to risk. Currently, that symbol is at 4,260.75. (https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/MES=F/)

"But I don't have $4,260.75," you say.

Cool. That number isn't the price. It would cost me $75 (which I get back) to enter a position, no matter what that big number says.

The S&P 500 micro moves up and down in .25 increments (1 tick) only.

"So if it goes up .25 I get .25 back?" You ask.

No. That's how stocks work. These are futures.

Each of those .25 moves represent $1.25. So if it goes up .25 you get $1.25 back.

Today it moved +80.25.

Remember those ticks from earlier? .25 = 1 tick = $1.25. So 4 ticks = $5

So how much in real $$$ did the s&p micro finish up today?

$5 x 80.25 = $401.25

Multiply that by however many contracts you want to trade @ $75 each and remember, you get that $75 back after you exit.

s&p micro tick = $1.25, right?

s&p mini (another symbol you can trade) tick = $12.25

Maybe you want to trade gold futures. Sick. That moves in .10 tick

size. Each .10 tick = $10

I can buy contracts and make money if price goes up. I can also sell contracts and make money if the price goes down. Futures are taxed at a much lower rate as well if you care about that. Anyways. Now you know more than you probably wanted to know about futures trading.

FYI, I'm a college dropout so don't think you need to be a math genius to do this.
