“It’s your graduation. What awaits you are times of sadness and also hardship. Life is not always fun. There are tough times, that make you feel like running away. And I don’t mean once or twice, but many times over. But during those times, don’t go blaming others. They are who they are. Just keep believing in yourself. And if you do, you’ll find those who will be on your side.”

As much as I love the live action movie in 2010 and the anime in 2009, I still enjoy this one. It’s beautiful in a different way. It retains the original feel but with a modern and refreshing spin, making you feel like you’re watching a high school version of First Love : Hatsukoi. 

Some scene make you smile, some scene make you angry, some scene make you teary-eyed but in the end, seeing the characters going experiencing happiness and going through hardship, but in the end, it’s all worth it. The sceneries and changing seasons are beautiful.

I love how the animation of the opening credits changes every episode according to the weather season the story takes place, like during spring, you can see the cherry blossoms animation decorating the opening credits and in autumn, it changes to read leaves, etc.

Like First Love : Hatsukoi, the song theme got stuck in my head!

If you’re looking for a new J-Drama to watch on Netflix now, watch this! You don’t have to know the manga, anime or the previous movie to watch this. It’s a healing slice of life drama that you’ll enjoy. You’ll probably start watching the movie and anime or even read the manga after you watch this.

I like how Yano and Yoshida looks at Sawako, getting angry seeing her sad. 😡

Not the first time Kanon Nonomura plays a “bad” girl character. I remember her playing similar role in Takane no Hana san, acting alongside Rika Izumi as her love rival. Hope she doesn’t get “hated” in real life for the characters she play.

Takane no Hana-san Ep 1

“It’s better if  a woman is just being plain nice right? You don’t want a woman who is too difficult to handle like Takamine-San.” “I actually admire someone like Takamine-San. She’s strong, cool and can get any job given to her done.”

A romance comedy about a serious looking business woman, Hana Takamine (Rika Izumi) who treats her co-workers coldly, declining their lunch and dinner invites, including one whom she secretly has a crush on but doesn’t know how to express her feelings or fear for being judged by her co-workers for being “soft”, especially by her office rival, a fellow business woman who is good in making use of her beauty and friendliness, in getting others to get her work done for her and tries to sabotage Takamine’s work to undermine her credibility.

Despite her stern and cool outlook at work, Takamine is actually a normal average girl who often vents her frustration behind closed doors in the work toilet during working hours and in the comfort of her own home after work where she can be comfortable in being herself and letting her guard down without her “mask”. She’s frustrated not only about her job but for not knowing anything when it comes to love as she has only known how to work hard since school, the one thing that she’s actually great at and takes pride in, that enables her to become a boss of a confectionary company.

Hana Takamine (Rika Izumi) starts her work day on cloud 9 remembering how her love confession to Yowaki Tsuyoshi (Yuki Ogoe) went well the other night but drops down to Earth when her work and love rival, Amai Ichigo (Kanon) got transferred to her team, which caused Hana to stalk Yowaki and Amai wherever they go in office.

Takane no Hana-san Ep 12

The timid Yowaki Tsuyoshi (Yuki Ogoe) is heartbroken for breaking up with Hana Takamine (Rika Izumi) but consoles himself thinking that she is better off with Genki Sarada (Kenta Izuka) who likes her as well and is seemingly better in doing everything than Yowaki.

Amai Ichigo (Kanon) who once had a crush on Yowaki is perplexed by his reasoning, thinking that a woman choses a man simply because of how capable he is at work. She calls him out for “running away” and disrespecting Hana’s decision in choosing him in the first place. 

Yowaki meets Hana the next day as she wants to return him his sweater which she borrowed but only to use it as a pretext to see his reactions and tell him how she really feels about him, accepting him for who he is. They finally reconciled and got back together.
