so my thoughts from my first ~10 hours of gameplay
Inon Zur, my king, I blow a kiss to you. this soundtrack ROCKS
the progression at the start of the game feels...really rushed? I have heard this before from other people who have played the game but. holy shit they really do not linger on the protag storyline at the game opening. it's literally "oops, everyone your protag loved is dead or missing! nvm go build a settlement now". it's some real whiplash from beginning the franchise on FO3 which has a super long protag intro section before they boot you out the vault, but I actually think serves the game well for building the protag's introduction and makes the protag's massive life change of having to escape the vault hit much harder emotionally.
similarly for getting the power armour and fighting a deathclaw so early. this feels wild to me as someone who started the franchise at FO3 and spent a lot of FO3 and FNV running the fuck away from deathclaws and trying not to die. that fight in Concord felt really underwhelming for me considering how iconic and deadly deathclaws are in Fallout generally, it was not a difficult fight at all. maybe the power scaling will just be different in FO4 so that there are things that are much more threatening? but also I have not historically been a person who really uses the power armour in other games so it might also be an adjustment for me in the power scaling for that. I literally left my power armour at Sanctuary after the Concord fight and have not used it since 💁♀️
I really enjoy all the locations so far. just hit Diamond City last night and I love the way it feels as a living, breathing place within the setting.
I feel p ambivalent about the settlement building aspect so far? but I do like that the inhabitants of the world feel like they are actually living in it and not just you know. sitting around with trash from 200 years ago littered around the place.
what do you mean my protag cannot be bisexual and do 10% more damage to everyone? I can only have black widow perk? todd you coward
all in all having a good time! definitely some adjustment needed to the settlement building & minutemen stuff, will see how it goes
