——
So you and Nolan were out at a club in Philly, celebrating the teams win tonight over the Penguins. You had dressed up a bit more provocative than usual and were planning on having a fun night with Nolan. However, your night was not going as planned.
Nolan was standing at the bar with Ivan and Oskar, in no mood to be with you on the dance floor. Luckily, TK was in the mood to let loose and was more than willing to dance with you. As you and TK danced to the beat of the music, you couldn’t help but continuously glance in Nolan’s direction. Only to find him laughing at something Ivan said instead of looking at you. It may have been the alcohol talking, but you wanted nothing more than to send Nolan into a jealous rage. Simply because when Nolan is jealous, the sex is so good, you can’t walk straight for days afterwards.
So, you moved yourself closer to Travis, who was pretty drunk and just looking to have fun at this point. As a rather sexual song started playing over the speakers, you found yourself turning around and leaning into Travis’ embrace, your back pressed against his chest.
“Y/N, what do you think you’re doing?” Travis slurred in your ear.
“Dancing, what does it look like?” You said as if it was obvious while moving your body against his in a sinful manner.
TK just shrugged and pulled your body closer to his trying to match your rhythm. Both of you knew TK would never push things too far. Nolan was his best friend and he respected you and the relationship you two had, that didn’t mean he didn’t enjoy flirting with you to rile Nolan up occasionally. You and TK danced for a few songs, with you occasionally glancing over towards the bar to see if Nolan was reacting the way you wanted him to. You met his eyes as you moved your hips a bit more seductively and ran your hand through TK’s hair, Nolan just looked back at you with a rather unreadable expression. If how you were moving was not getting him jealous, then you’d have to step it up a notch. You pulled TK’s head down, moving your mouth to his ear.
“Time to turn it up a bit, Konecny.” He smirked and spun you around so your fronts were pressed together. You moved against each other, with his hands roaming around your body and yours tangled in his hair. He maneuvered one of his legs between yours, giving you something to grind against. He smirked at you and tilted his head in the direction of your rosy-cheeked boyfriend.
You looked over your shoulder to see Nolan holding his drink with white knuckles. His jaw was clenched and his pupils were blown in either anger or lust, you couldn’t tell, you didn’t care. You got the reaction you wanted.
You winked at him as he chugged the rest of his drink and stalked over to where you were, leaving Ivan and Oskar confused at his sudden departure. By the time Nolan reached you, you had turned your attention back to Travis, successfully ignoring the fact that your boyfriend was now standing behind you. You only acknowledged him once he grabbed you by the shoulder, forcing you to turn and face him.
“What do you think you’re doing, angel?” You smirked and reached up to run a hand through his hair.
“Dancing with Trav. What does it look like, babe?” You looked up at him with an innocent look playing across your face as he looked down at you in disbelief. By this time Travis has disappeared off the dance floor and over to Ivan and Oskar at the bar.
“You think it’s okay to dance like that with TK? I think you forgot who you belong to, angel.” He rasped in your ear and the hand he had on the small of your back moved lower and pulled you closer to his large frame. The grip you had on his hair tightened while your free hand found a home on his broad chest.
You smirked up at him, “Oh yeah? And who is that?”
You knew that you were making him mad by the way he gripped your hips with more pressure, but that just made the wetness in your panties even more noticeable to you. You could feel other people bumping into you and Nolan, obviously annoyed that the two of you weren’t dancing but instead just standing still in the middle of the dancefloor. Nolan just growled at your response, frustrated that you were playing games.
“Hmm, no answer? Guess I’ll just go find Trav and see if he’ll tell me who I belong to.” You remove yourself from Nolan’s hold and start to walk over to where the other Flyers players were. Nolan was quick to react, grabbing your wrist more aggressively than he should’ve. He yanked you back into his chest, grip not loosening in the slightest. Honestly, you’d only seen Nolan this aggressive on the ice and weren’t sure how to react; so, you froze.
“Oh, angel, you’re gonna regret that. We’re leaving. Now.” He dragged you out of the club into the chilly Philadelphia air, you struggled to keep up with his rapid pace as he walked back to your shared apartment.
“Nolan, please slow down. I’m in heels.”
However, your pleas fell upon deaf ears. The tall, brown-haired boy didn’t utter a single word in your direction until the two of you were in the privacy of your apartment. As soon as the door was locked, Nolan turned to you, eyes dark and filled with lust, he circled your frozen figure. He stopped behind you and moved your hair behind your ear, leaning closer to you.
“You’ve been playing a dangerous game all night, angel. One that you had no chance in winning.” His lips trailed along the exposed skin on your neck, your head instinctively leaning to the side to give him more access. You moaned in pleasure, finally getting what you had wanted all night long.
“Oh I think I've already won,” you panted out as Nolan continued to suck on your sweet spot. He bit down harshly on your soft skin to mark you, then pulled back to look you in your eyes, hands coming up to tangle themselves in your hair.
“What was that angel?” He grabbed your hair at the roots and pulled your head roughly to the side, the pain felt nice on your scalp. “You think that you get to dance with TK all night long and think you've won?”
“Oh Nolan,” you sighed, leaning into his hand pulling at your hair. “You can be such a stupid boy sometimes, you know?” You pushed Nolan up against the wall and bit his bottom lip before kissing him deeply, Nolans hands came down to grip your ass, fingertips pressed up under your skirt to feel your skin.
Next thing you knew, Nolan had picked you up by your thighs and pushed you up against the wall next to the door. The two of you make out against the wall, hands roaming as far as your position would allow. It wasn’t long before he walked you to the bedroom and sat down on the edge of the bed with you in his lap. You quickly got between his muscular legs and unzipped his jeans, which were certainly much tighter than when he had put them on earlier. You pulled his pants down his long legs, leaving him in just his boxer briefs. You look up at him with innocent eyes as you start to palm him over the strained fabric, Nolan watching your every movement, carefully. You placed an open-mouth kiss over his cock before pulling his briefs down his legs, letting his cock spring up and slap against his lower stomach.
Hesitantly, you reach out and wrap your hand around him and bring your tongue out to lick a broad strip along the underneath of his swollen cock. Nolan lets out a sigh of relief as you wrap your lips around his head, sucking slightly. You knew you were being a brat and teasing him much more than you should be, but you just couldn’t help it. You took as much of him into your mouth as you could, relaxing your throat as you take more of him deeper and deeper.
Nolan’s demeanor changed as soon as he felt himself hit the back of your throat, his cocky attitude had quickly made a comeback.
“Yeah, angel, that's right you're mine. You couldn’t suck anybody as well as you suck me. You may be a brat, but you’re always so good for me.”
You moan at his words and reach a hand up to start playing with his balls, Nolan lets out a guttural noise, throwing his head back in pleasure. You know then that even though he’s been acting cocky all night, you’ve still got him wrapped around your finger.
Nolan could tell he was getting close to his release, so he pulled you off of him and tossed you back onto the bed. He couldn’t seem to get your clothes off fast enough, you’re pretty sure he even tore your skirt. He quickly removed his shirt, leaving you both naked, before he attached his lips to your neck. Leaving hickeys on any available skin he could find, you would certainly struggle to cover these marks for the following days to come.
Nolan worked his way down your body, any skin his hands touched, his lips followed shortly thereafter. His fingers reached your dripping core, easily inserting two fingers inside you, curling up into your sweet spot, making you moan out. Your nails found a home in the skin of his back, scratching enough that you know there will be marks tomorrow. He isn’t quite ready to finish teasing you yet, but he knows that he won’t last much longer.
Nolan removes his fingers from your core and with his other hand, he opened your mouth so he could place the fingers that had just been in you into your mouth. You moaned at the taste of yourself on his fingers, sucking harshly while looking into Nolan’s eyes. He groans at the sight of you sucking on his fingers and moves to place your legs over his broad shoulders, while lining himself up to your core.
Nolan pushes in and bottoms out in one swift thrust, moaning at how tight you are. He gives you a moment to adjust before pulling out almost entirely, and thrusts back into you at a rough pace. Nolan sets his pace rough and deep, you can feel him hitting your cervix in the best way. You can hear Nolan telling you to keep your eyes on him, but you can’t seem to be able to even see anything as your eyes roll back. Nolan’s hands are holding onto your hips with bruising force, while you’re fingers leaving crescent-shaped marks in his biceps. You are close but you need more, something new, a new angle.
“Nol, please, please, fuck me from behind. Want you to pull my hair. Want to move with you.”
Nolan is quick to comply, pulling out of you and turning you on to your hands and knees. Sliding back into you, Nolan moans out, loving the feeling of bottoming out inside of you from this angle. He goes to start thrusting and you begin to move your hips in time with his thrusts, meeting him halfway. The sensation has you dropping your head down against the mattress, but Nolan is quick to wrap his hand in your hair, pulling you up so your back is flush against his chest. He removes his hand from your hair and wraps it around your neck, squeezing until he could feel you start to struggle to breathe slightly.
You brought a hand up to wrap around Nolan’s wrist, moaning as he flexes his fingers even more. You were too caught up in the change in the angle and his hand around your throat to even notice his other hand moving down to rub the bundle of nerves in between your thighs. The sensations quickly became too much and you couldn’t even find the words to let Nolan know you were cumming.
He released his grip on your throat, letting you fall forward on to the bed, as he fucks you at a relentless pace through your high while chasing his. You turn your head to the side to look back at him as he fucks you.
“Yeah, baby, that’s it. Use me. Show me who I belong to.” you rasp out, voice all scratchy from your vocal cords being restricted.
Nolan could never get enough of your dirty talk, especially when your voice was raspy from either him fucking your throat or choking you. So, hearing you coax him towards his high, sent him over the edge. He stilled as he came inside of you, both of you moaning at the feeling of his cum filling you up.
“Fuck, angel, look at you. Filled with my cum, you look so pretty like this. All mine.”
Pulling out of you slowly, admiring the sight of his cum mixed with yours dripping out of your swollen cunt. Nolan collapsed next to you and you both laid there for a second before he got up to get a towel to clean you off. Nolan rolled you over to lay on your back so he could clean the mess between your legs. He tossed the towel into the hamper then crawled into bed with you, pulling you into his arms, pressing a sweet kiss to your lips.
“You okay, angel? Not too rough?” Nolan was always very tender with you after sex.
You nodded and murmured a soft “yes” as you pressed a kiss into his chest as he rubbed his hand up and down your back, holding you close to him.
“Angel, that was amazing but please don't ever dance like that with TK again.” Nolan whispered into your hair.
“Next time make sure I don't have to find somebody else to dance with first.” you said while smirking up at him.
“I think that can be arranged.” He kissed your forehead and just as your about to fall asleep, Nolan asked, “Wait, what the fuck did you mean by ‘you can be such a stupid boy?’”

Hey Everyone!
Request Updates:
I have been writing on this blog for roughly three years now, starting my Senior year of high school. I am 20 now, with a fiancé, a job, rent to pay, and my own projects.
At this point in my life, it simply is not worth it to keep taking requests out of the kindness of my heart. I know that maybe my work on this blog has not been super duper high quality, but I am willing to clean up my work and take requests and I would not now.
However, this does mean that I will be charging for requests, taking commissions. Here are my rates:
Headcannons: $0.50
One-Shots:
500 Word One-Shot - $1
1,000 Word One-Shot: $5
5,000 Word One-Shot: $10
and so on and so forth
Series:
If you request a series, or request that a particular one-shot be made into a series, here is how that would work.
Each chapter will be 1,000 words long.
Each chapter will be worth $5
If you request a series, and you do not know how many chapters you would like, that is fine, I will be working closley with you regarding your requests and budget.
Because of this, I will no longer be taking requests through my inbox, I will be taking requests through messanger.
If you have already made a request, you will not be charged, your request, if accepted will be finished. However, after that I will be charging for my work.
If you wish to stay anonymous, please let me know in your request. All of my payment information/recipes will be given to you through messanger.
Thank you so much everyone who has followed me and enjoyed my work over the years, you have been a blessing.
I am also excited to announce that since charging for my work I will be able to work on and post some of my original work which I am very excited about.
Thank you, again.
Love,
Ruby

Fireplace- Nolan Patrick
AN: Soft. bitch. hours. and autumn feels, that is all i have to say about this
Wordcount: 900
TW: none, all fluff
Nolan is, in every sense of the word, knocked the fuck out. Has been for the past half hour. In the passenger seat of the car he swears silently to himself, the safety he finds there while you are driving is unparallelled.
You are currently following the instructions from the lady on the gps, because you had predicted this happening. Looking over at Nolan with a fond smile, you take the next exit off the interstate as the sunset is starting. With an autumn playlist as the backdrop of your thinking, it is making you feel at peace. Nolan had been feeling better for the last week, he had started practicing for real now and while you had just started classes, they were online, so you figured you’d take him out to his parents’ lake cabin to celebrate him getting better. He had agreed easily. So you packed a few bags, loaded them into Nolan’s car with you behind the wheel, and drove.
It took another half hour to get to the cabin, but seeing it for the first time as you park the car in the driveway, you almost lose your breath. It’s so pretty that you don’t notice Nolan twitching and slowly waking up in the passenger seat.
“Pretty nice, huh?”
He mumbles as he rubs his eyes.
“Yeah, this looks really serene.”
You smile at him as he takes your hand and gives your knuckles a little kiss, before getting out of the car and popping the trunk. He carefully takes out his fishing rod and hockey bag while you get out of the car. You grab the three remaining bags and start carrying them to the door. Nolan, though, has already placed his bags by the door and jogs up to you, grabbing his bag as well as yours as he walks beside you to the porch.
He starts rummaging around his pockets, and it finally dawns on you that it's a little cold in the air. There aren't little clouds forming from your breath, but you suspect it’s not long until it does.
“Did you grab the key from the counter babe?”
Nolan looks at you, making you stop dead and start patting all your pockets as well. With a frown you look at him.
“No, Nolan you were supposed to do that.”
He turns and pats his back pockets one more time. Then his front pockets.
“Nolan.. I swear.”
Your head starts worrying, you can’t stay in the car all night, and if he’s lost the keys then- you don’t even want to finish that thought. Pulling your phone from your pocket you prepare to call his parents.
“Oh, look what I found babe.”
He dangles a set- the set of keys in front of your eyes, and relief washes over you, before you spot the smile on his face.
“You absolute fuckwit, Nols. Don’t mess with me like that.”
You exclaim, trying to sound more offended than you really are. Nolan just chuckles and pulls you into his arms, kissing the top of your head.
“Sorry, love.”
You enter the cabin, and while it isn’t the biggest one you’ve seen, the living room has floor to ceiling windows overviewing the lake. The kitchen is nice, but the heat hasn’t been turned on and you can already feel the blankets wrapping around you. It may just be Nolan’s arms though.
“You want some cookies or something?”
The question falls from your lips as Nolan comes down the stairs, after placing all the baggage in the master bedroom.
“Yes please, can you make the ones you make at home? With the lemon in?”
He asks as he nears you, placing a kiss on your cheek.
“Sure, wanna try to light the fireplace though? It’s freezing here.”
You shiver, trying to hide it just a little. Because even though you have on a thick wool sweater, the floor is frigid and you only have cotton socks on.
“I’ll heat you up, don’t need no fireplace for that.”
And while it makes you blush, as stupid as it sounds, you need a little more than just his body. He looks really enticing caging you in against the counter though, smirking down at you with slightly dilated pupils. God fucking damn it you think, before leaning up and pressing your lips to his. Nolan welcomes you with his entire being, wrapping his arms around your waist and lifting you up onto the cold counter. And while he just about goes to town on your neck, as soon as he feels how cold your legs are he breaks contact, even if it is a little slow.
“Fireplace, then I’ll heat you up some extra later.”
Nolan winks at you, before walking over to the fireplace and starts building the fire.
You sit there on the counter for just a second, contemplating him, before getting down and getting to work on the lemon cookies.
Before you know it, the cookies are in the oven and the fireplace is crackling, filling the entire cabin with its warmth. You lay in front of said fireplace, on a blanket Nolan grabbed from the couch. A small plate with cookies is placed by your side and Nolan has enveloped your waist with his arms, and put his head on your stomach. The two of you lay there comfortably talking about his practice and your classes. Everything feels so domestic it almost pains you. But you love this, him regardless.

Fandoms
→ The ❌ emoji means that as much as I am open to write NSFW fics, I don’t write those for marked fandoms/characters. I may write romantic fics for all characters, but I’ll be cautious with younger ones. → Every fandom has a note about what I can take into consideration. I try to make my fanfics generic enough to fit with all of the fandom universe, but sometimes the ideas go better with different version of the character (book vs movie, season 1 vs 5, different timelines etc.). → I take suggestions for fanfiction (for all listed characters), as well as both character and fandom suggestions. ~ The list will sometimes change. Falling | Carter Hart
Summary: While Carter Hart tries to teach your 2nd grade class how to skate, you try not to fall... flat on your face, or, for him. Words: 2292 of 7433 Note: The request was for 1 imagine but I accidentally came up with a 3 part series... This is part 2. Read part 1 here.
The music is loud, way too loud, to even hear a single word of what your roommate Bella is saying. To be fair, it’s probably not very interesting anyway, cause she’s on one of her drunk rambles about her on again off again boyfriend, that didn’t text her back yesterday.
You hadn’t really wanted to go out tonight. Work had been a disaster today, with Fern throwing up and Rachel trying to drink finger paint.
At 7 years old, you’d figured they’d be over that, but you’d clearly been wrong.
But Bella had insisted, and eventually, you’d given in. Mostly because she started talking about you needing to get laid to get over Carter, which was ridiculous, cause you weren’t even into Carter.
Sure, you’d started watching Flyers games, but that was just cause you were getting into hockey. Not the #79 goalie that you definitely did not watch all postgame interviews of, that’s for sure.
“Are you even listening to me?” Bella yells then, and you blink a few times.
“Huh?”
“I said, if James shows up, I’m not talking to him! I’m not even gonna give him the light of day.”
You nod, but you’re not expecting that attitude to last very long. Bella is a beautiful girl, and she has many guys that would love to take her out, but she always goes back to James, who’s a no-good lowlife that is wasting her precious time. You’ve told her, time and time again, to just go for one of the guys that line up for her attention, but she always ends up back in the same place.
You wish you got that kinda attention from guys, but then again, you don’t look like Bella. She’s slim, with legs going on for days, long blonde hair and to top it of, she’s ridiculously charming.
You’re, well, you. A short, stubby girl who gets on with kids better than she does with guys her own age. Normally, you’re not really bothered about your appearance, but you can’t help but wonder, if maybe you looked a little more like Bella, a guy like Carter would look at you differently.
“Where is your mind, Y/N?” Bella says at that moment, frowning at you. “You’re literally not reacting to anything I say.”
You sigh. “Sorry, Bella. What were you saying?”
Bella rolls her eyes, then sits up straighter and points to the corner. “I said, a couple cute guys just walked in, and I wanna know which one you’re shotgunning so I can go for one of the others.”
Highly doubting you’re gonna be interested in any of them, you turn around in the direction she’d been pointing, and as soon as your eyes catch the group of guys that just came in, you feel the blood drain from your face.
You’ve only been watching hockey for a week, but you’d gotten to know the Flyers pretty well, and you know two of those guys. That’s Nolan Patrick and Travis Konecny, walking into your bar. Would that mean…?
You search the rest of the bar, but Carter is nowhere to be seen. You can’t help but be disappointed, but then again, that would’ve been too good to be true.
“I’m not interested, you go for whoever,” you tell Bella, slamming back your vodka soda. “I might go home in a bit.”
Suddenly, you notice Bella’s eyes widen, and then a wicked smile crosses her face. “No, you’re not,” she says, and just when you’re about to ask her what the hell she’s talking about, she speaks again. “Hello, cute boy.”
“Uhm, hey?” The voice sounds unsure and is hard to hear over the music, but you recognize it any way, and turn around so fast you nearly topple off your barstool.
“Carter?”
Catching your eyes, some of the tension leaves his shoulders, and he smiles. “Hi, Y/N.”
“Oh, hi.” You narrow your eyes. “You’re not legally allowed to be here.”
“God, Y/N,” Bella brings out in horror, but Carter just laughs.
“Are you supposed to be here?”
“I’m 21.”
“I’m with them.” Carter motions to Nolan and Travis and some of the other guys, and you figure that would get him into any bar he’d like to get into. Plus, well, he’s Carter Hart. He can probably do whatever he wants anyway. He casually leans up against the bar, points at your empty glass. “What were you drinking?”
You can’t help but laugh. “You’re not gonna be able to buy me one. Vodka soda.”
Now, his eyes are glistening with mischief. “Wanna bet?”
A little apprehensively, you nod. “On what?”
Carter seems to think about it, but then Bella pipes up. “If he wins, you can’t go home until I say you can go home!”
That will probably be at 6 in the morning, so you aren’t particularly keen on that bet, but Carter has already agreed and is waving over the bartender.
“Hey, man,” he says lightly, and you can almost see the moment recognition hits the bartender.
“Oh, dude, big fan!” he brings out, and that’s the moment you lose the bet. “What can I get you? On the house, dude, thanks for keeping the Flyers in the race.”
“Thank you, that’s so nice of you,” Carter smiles. “Can I have a vodka soda and a lemon tonic?” Of course, the bartender gets his drinks without hesitation, and a smug smile occupies Carter’s face when he pushes the vodka soda towards you. “Told you so.”
“Nobody likes a bad winner,” you grumble, taking a sip of your drink, and Bella claps her hands in excitement.
“That means you’ve got to stay!” She hops off her barstool. “You remember that bet, lady. I’m gonna go talk to your friend’s friends over there.” She confidently walks over to Travis and Nolan, and you shoot Carter a look.
“Does she have a shot, or should I be a good friend and go save her?” you ask him, and he laughs.
“I’d say she has as good a shot with them as anyone. And besides, they’re good guys. She’ll have a fun night either way.” He sends you a lopsided smile, and you feel your heart speed up.
Stupid heart.
“Besides, if she’s there, you’re kinda forced to hang out with me, and I like that.”
As if you need to be forced into that.
“Now, tell me,” he continues. “If you’re 21, how are you a teacher?”
“I’m not. I’m an intern at the school, and I was just accompanying the class to their field trip because their teacher was ill.”
“So you’re not the brilliant mind that made them write me those cute letters, huh?” He’s smiling at the memory, and you notice once again how nice his smile is; it lights up his face and washes a wave of calm through your body.
“Nope, but I helped the kids write them. They were cute, no?”
Carter seems to ponder for a second, before speaking again. “Moving to a new city, away from your family and friends, is always hard, and combining that with the pressure of wanting to perform well and give my team a chance to win, it was a hard first few weeks here in Philly. Those letters honestly came at the best time. I needed a pick me up, and they made me so happy.” There’s something vulnerable in the way he speaks, and you want to reach out and hug him. You haven’t quite consumed enough alcohol to be that bold, but you’ve definitely consumed enough to do something you wouldn’t normally do, so you reach out and quickly squeeze his hand.
“That sounds like it sucks,” you tell him truthfully, and he smiles at you.
“Not really. It’s been a dream come true. Just, all roses have thorns, you know? Sometimes you need to be reminded of the good parts of something.”
The fact that he hasn’t yanked his hand away from you gives you a boost of confidence and conversation flows easily after that, and somehow, your glass always seems to remain full. You hadn’t been planning to get drunk, but at the end of the night you nearly fall over when you get off your barstool, falling into Carter’s strong chest.
“You keep falling for me, huh?” Carter grins, locking his hands around your elbows to keep you steady. Of course, he hasn’t been drinking, and he’s infuriatingly sober, and infuriatingly handsome in the dim light of the bar.
“It’s not my fault I’m clumsy,” you tell him, and you don’t miss the irony of his statement. If only he knew how many times you’ve thought about kissing him, in the two hours that you’ve been talking, he wouldn’t joke about that. “I’m gonna find Bella, I don’t care about her stupid bet, I need to go home.”
If it was possible, you’d stay there all night, talking to Carter, but you’re drunk and tired and you have a feeling if you stay any longer, you’re just going to embarrass yourself more than you already have, and you’re gonna have to face him at school in a few days.
Carter seems to think about something for a while, but his hands don’t let go of your arms, so you just stand there and wait for him to speak.
“Can I bring you home?” he says finally.
Now, despite your worries, the prospect of getting a little more time with him has you smiling so big your cheeks hurt. “I’d love that,” you say. “Let me find Bella to tell her I’m leaving.”
After finding your roommate and telling her that yes, Carter was bringing you home, but no, it wasn’t like that, you leave the bar behind. Carter’s hand is warm on the small of your back and you’re not sure if he’s touching you because he wants to or because he’s worried you’ll fall on your face, but either way you’re not complaining and you mourn the loss of contact when he helps you into his car.
You watch his side profile as he drives, leaning your head back against the headrest.
“I’m sorry you have to deal with driving my drunk ass home,” you mumble softly.
He laughs. “Don’t worry about it. You’re much better company than the boys. I’m kinda the default designated driver with them, cause I can’t drink anyway.”
You notice the compliment, feel yourself blushing, but try to ignore it. “That must be annoying.”
Carter shrugs. “It’s fine. I’m assuming they’ll return the favor when I’m 21.” Then, he seems to think about something. “Except Nolan. He’s a horrible driver, I’d much rather get an Uber.”
You laugh at that. “Tell me more about the team.”
And so, he does. He talks, and it’s comfortable and just nice, and way too soon he’s parking in front of your apartment and you’re taking your house keys out of your jacket.
You would ask him to come in, but you’re pretty sure that’s against some kind of contract you signed when you accepted the internship.
“Let me walk you to the door,” Carter offers, and somehow he manages to get out of the car and around to open your car door before you’ve even managed to reach for the handle.
You giggle, as you take his hand and let him help you out of the car. “Afraid I’ll fall again?”
“Nope,” he says, and he sounds honest and not ashamed at all, as he continues: “Just wanna spend as much time with you as possible.”
Your face surely is on fire, and you can’t help but stop him before you reach your front door. “Carter, I…” When you started speaking, you were fully intend on telling him that you have to remain professional, with him scheduled to go back to school to teach the kids a PE class, but now he’s staring at you intently with those big blue eyes and you don’t even remember how to talk, let alone what you were going to say.
“Yes, Y/N?” he mimics your tone of voice, and his lips curl into a lopsided smile. He almost looks like he knows what you were going to say, and knows also that just his eyes staring into yours was enough to completely derail your trail of thought, and it’s for some reason the most amusing thing to him that you can’t think straight when he’s near.
And, maybe it’s because you’re drunk or maybe it’s because you’re so, so weak for him, but suddenly you find yourself stumbling forward. He catches you easily, circling his arms around your waist, as if this is something he’s been doing for years, and then his lips are on yours and the feeling is dizzying, the rest of the world completely fading away.
It’s maybe the best kiss you’ve ever had, and yet, as soon as he pulls away, all the thoughts from before come back in 100 miles an hour, and you step back.
“I’m sorry,” you croak out, and his smile immediately fades, a frown appearing in return. “But we probably shouldn’t have done that.”
“Why?” he questions, trying to reach out to you, but you take another step back. “Cause, you’re gonna work with the kids, and it’s not professional, and I could lose my internship if they found out, and…”
“Wait,” Carter interrupts. “I wasn’t aware this wasn’t allowed?”
You swallow thickly, trying to regain your composure. You’re not technically sure it’s not allowed, and deep in your heart, you know losing your internship isn’t really what you’re scared of.
Guys like Carter just don’t go for girls like you, and you’re scared of getting hurt.
“I’m sorry,” you whimper again. To Carter’s credit, he takes it in stride, and sighs, before nodding.
“Okay,” he says. “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow at school, then?”
You nod, and watch as he sends you another weak smile, then stuffs his hands in his pockets and walks down your driveway, back to his car.
You’d known you were going down a treacherous slope with this one, but you hadn’t expected falling would hurt this much, this soon.

BMI celebrated the songwriters, producers and publishers of the past year’s most-performed R&B/hip-hop songs during the 2019 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards held at the Sandy Springs Arts Center in Atlanta. Multiple-award-winning singer/songwriter and actress Brandy received the BMI President’s Award in recognition of her powerful impact on the entertainment industry and her timeless hits, which have secured her place in R&B history.
Hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President, Creative, Atlanta, Catherine Brewton, the evening included stellar performances by some of the hottest artists on the music scene. The ceremony kicked off with a moving tribute video in honor of the late rapper and activist Nipsey Hussle to celebrate his musical legacy and remarkable philanthropic work. Atlanta-based rapper Gunna followed with a medley of his biggest hits, ending with his smash “Drip Too Hard,” featuring Lil Baby, who joined him on stage for the performance. Afterwards, Gunna received a special award in recognition of the song garnering one billion streams. Television personality and comedian, DC Young Fly then presented Memphis rapper NLE Choppa with the 2019 BMI Social Star Award.
The evening also featured a series of special tributes to Brandy, beginning with contemporary R&B singer/songwriter Jade Novah performing a beautiful rendition of “Talk About Our Love.” The tributes continued with Samoht singing a stripped-down version of “Brokenhearted,” followed by gospel singer Kierra Sheard’s sultry performance of two of Brandy’s ballads, “Have You Ever” and “He Is.” Eric Bellinger rounded out the tributes with “Baby” and “Nothing” which had the audience singing along. Brandy’s brother, Ray J, took to the stage and serenaded his sister with “Best Friend” before she was presented with the BMI President’s Award. Brandy accepted the accolade with an impromptu performance, encouraged by the audience, of “I Wanna Be Down,” before singing her iconic hit “Almost Doesn’t Count.”
The event also honored the top producers and songwriters of the previous year’s 35 best-performing R&B/hip-hop songs in the U.S. from BMI’s repertoire of more than 14 million musical works. Wheezy Beatz tied for Producer of the Year with Tay Keith. Keith also received the coveted Songwriter of the Year award, an honor he shared with Post Malone, marking his second tie for the evening. Song of the Year went to “God’s Plan” by Yung Exclusive and Marciano and Sony/ATV was named Publisher of the Year for having 18 of the most performed songs of the year including “Sicko Mode,” “I Like It” and “In My Feelings.”
As the 2019 BMI President’s Award honoree, Brandy joins previous recipients Curtis Mayfield, Ludacris, Toni Braxton and Will.i.am, among others in sharing this distinction.

Will the Flyers Pursue RFAs? It Sure Sounds Like It.
Restricted free agency in the NHL has stood as something of a forbidden fruit. It’s there. It’s right in front of you. You want to take a bite, but can you? Should you? The initial bite might tingle your tastebuds, but that momentary joy can turn to the bitterness of a rotten lemon in a millisecond. It’s a rarity to even broach the topic, let alone maintain possession of the fruits of one’s labor. How rare? There have been just 35 offer sheets made to restricted free agents in NHL history. In the past twenty years, only eight, yes EIGHT offer sheets have been extended to another team’s restricted free agent. It just so happens that two of those eight – a staggering 25% – have been offered by your team, your town, your Philadelphia Flyers.
Will Chuck Fletcher become the third Flyers GM in thirty-three years to make an offer to a restricted free agent? There are plenty of reasons to believe that it’s going to happen.
Reason #1: Influencers
I mentioned earlier that only two Flyers general managers have ever made an offer sheet to a restricted free agent and you’ll recognize the names: Bob Clarke and Paul Holmgren. The latter is the man who officially hired Fletcher and currently serves as the Flyers Team President. The former is a man who played a bigger role in the hiring of Chuck Fletcher than he might let on. Clarke first hired Fletcher as an Assistant GM of the Florida Panthers back in 1993. He’s spoken glowingly of Fletcher including this:
Reason #2: Bob Clarke Said As Much
When Anthony and I sat down with Bob Clarke, who now serves as Flyers Senior Vice President, for an exclusive interview for Snow The Goalie, I asked about why more teams don’t make offer sheets to restricted free agents. Then Clarke dropped this bombshell:
.@NHLFlyers Hall of Famer Bob Clarke with me and @AntSanPhilly for #SnowTheGoalie on whether teams will make offers to RFAs this offseason: pic.twitter.com/frbHYzD2Ya
— Russ Joy (@JoyOnBroad) March 10, 2019
“You’re gonna see it with restricted free agents, just because of the salary cap. Teams get a restricted free agent coming up… they’ve got three or four million dollars in cap space, someone’s gonna come in and offer five or six, maybe overpay, but it’s gonna happen.” One could take that quote a couple of ways. Could Clarke have been talking league-wide as he referenced “teams”? Sure. But, remember, this wasn’t the question asked. Clarke’s got Fletcher’s ear. This was about as much of a pronouncement of off-season strategy as I think we’ll ever get. As for teams he could be referencing, I’ll get to that later. I wondered if Fletcher – or any GM for that matter – has been/would be hesitant to burn bridges with another member of the sacred front office fraternity:
.@NHLFlyers Hall of Famer Bob Clarke joined @AntSanPhilly & @JoyOnBroad for an exclusive sit-down for #SnowTheGoalie. NHL GMs rarely submit offer sheets to Restricted Free Agents. Does Clarke think they fear burning bridges with their counterparts? Watch: pic.twitter.com/qxoQxqSEit
— Kyle Scott (@CrossingBroad) March 8, 2019
Ultimately, he’s right. Another front office shouldn’t hold it against Fletcher professionally if he were to poach a top RFA away from a contender, but it’s easier said by a guy who by his own admission spends much of his time golfing in Florida than for someone actively working in the NHL.
Reason #3: An Exorbitant Amount of Cap Space
With a projected salary cap of roughly $83 million for the 2019-20 season, the Flyers find themselves with slightly less than $47 million committed to players against the cap. That leaves them with about $36 million in cap space, third most in the entire league behind only Ottawa and Colorado. It looks tantalizing until you take into account the fact that the Flyers have critical restricted free agents of their own to re-sign long-term including Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny, Travis Sanheim, and Phil Myers. The team could also choose to bring back Ryan Hartman and they’re also expected to re-sign UFA netminder Cam Talbot.
Assuming the team makes reasonable offers: Provy ($5m), Konecny ($5m), Sanheim ($4.25m), Myers ($3.25m), Hartman ($2.25m), Talbot ($3.25m), that leaves them with $13 million in potential cap space. That’s more than enough to pry away a top RFA or deliver a Shea Weber sized poison pill to a team at the top third of the conference.
Side note: Don’t look past 2020, when the team will also have to offer deals to Nolan Patrick, Oskar Lindblom, and potentially Robert Hägg.
Reason #4: Fletcher Could Irreparably Damage An Eastern Conference Foe
Like Clarke said earlier, if a team has, “three or four million dollars in cap space, someone’s gonna come in and offer five or six, maybe overpay.”
Let’s drill down on what I believe Clarke was really alluding to. There are three prominent headliners leading a stacked RFA class this summer: Colorado RW Mikko Rantanen, Toronto RW Mitch Marner, and Tampa Bay C Brayden Point. The latter two are the most intriguing for a myriad of reasons. Consider this: if Chuck Fletcher were to pursue Marner or Point, it could represent a no-lose situation for his team.
Let’s look at Tampa Bay’s situation first. Brayden Point is in the midst of his third NHL season. At age 22, he’s racked up 82 points (37 goals/45 assists) in 67 games. If his point progression were to continue in the 2019-20 season, he could be poised to eclipse 100 points; heck there’s still time for him to get there this year. The Lightning enter the offseason with roughly $10 million of cap space and only sixteen players under contract. While they’re likely the deepest team in the entire league, they have a long-term deficiency with only four defensemen under contract for the 2019-20 season. Could Fletcher work out a trade of, say, Shayne Gostisbehere – who drew interest from one Western Conference team at the trade deadline – in order to clear out a bit more cap space for the Orange & Black while providing Tampa an affordable asset at a valuation that many in the league would consider to be an underpay for a defenseman with Ghost’s unique skillset? It would likely need to occur as a side deal between Philly and Tampa Bay, one that forces the Lightning to admit they won’t be able to match an offer from the Flyers with an annual cap hit of $10m+.
Toronto’s cap situation is even more tenuous and could provide some juicy options for Fletcher. After signing #1 free agent John Tavares after the 2017-18 season, the Maple Leafs doled out a shiny new 6-yr, $41.4m deal to William Nylander just before the December RFA deadline AND a 5-yr, $58.17m megadeal to Auston Matthews. That leaves them with just under $10 million of cap space to fill out nine roster spots. Would the Flyers throw down an offer sheet in excess of $10m annually to Mitch Marner? The soon-to-be 22 year old has posted 82 points (24 goals/58 assists) through 68 games in his third NHL season. Maybe, just maybe, that’s not even the player the Flyers have their eye on. In a Pierre LeBrun piece for The Athletic, Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher was quoted as saying:
“It’s a tool, but the problem in many cases is that you have to overpay to overwhelm the team to get the player,” said Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher. “To the point where you end up creating cap issues for yourself. So it has to be … there are probably circumstances where you would consider it and probably circumstances where it just doesn’t make sense. It can be a pretty prohibitive price both in terms of money and assets to give up.’’
A general manager, who was provided anonymity due to speculating about another team’s player, asked of signing a secondary piece from Toronto such as Kasperi Kapanen:
“If you sign Kapanen to a contract paying $6 million a year, are the Leafs really capable of matching it?’’
I wonder who that GM could’ve been. Anthony and I have discussed the Wayne Simmonds for Kasperi Kapanen rumor multiple times on The Press Row Show and Snow The Goalie. Though that deal was never consummated, perhaps the Flyers have never taken their eye off that prize. Kapanen got his start playing locally while his dad Sami was a member of the Philadelphia Flyers. Teams typically put a high emphasis on familiarity with a player when deciding on whether or not to pursue him in free agency, and it’s safe to say they have that with Kasperi. Would it be the splashy kind of deal fans are expecting? No. But if it were to take place in conjunction with a UFA signing of Artemi Panarin, it would round out an excellent off-season.
Reason #5: The Flyers Are Trending in the Right Direction
I know, I know. The organization was mired in some terrible play to start the season, found itself firing both its GM Ron Hextall and head coach Dave Hakstol, while also setting the NHL record for the most goalies play to play in a single season (8). However, there’s reason to believe in the building blocks the team has in place. Carter Hart more than lived up to the hype and has solidified his place as the team’s franchise netminder. The defensive corps stands as one of the most promising long-term groups in the entire league. The aforementioned Patrick, Konecny, and Lindblom have all taken steps forward – no pun intended – and should continue to develop with established veterans Claude Giroux, Jake Voracek, and James van Riemsdyk on their lines. That’s not even mentioning 2018 Selke Finalist Sean Couturier, who is regarded around the league as one of the top two-way forwards in the game. Not that it will necessarily mean anything for 2019-20, but interim head coach Scott Gordon has overseen one of the most impressive turnarounds in modern hockey history, pulling a last-place squad out of the quagmire they found themselves in and leading them to within five points of the final wildcard spot with fourteen games to play.
Clarke brought up another thing that means quite a bit to free agents and their agents: a respected organization has an easier time pitching the best long-term outlook than the opposite end of the spectrum:
The development on this team’s young nucleus has made the potential move for a big free agent not only plausible, but in some ways necessary.
I’d be hard-pressed to advise against an offer sheet for Point or Marner, even with the full knowledge that the compensation – four first-round picks if the AAV exceeds $10,148,303 – is a king’s ransom. It remains to be seen whether Chuck Fletcher follows in the footsteps of his mentor Bob Clarke and boss Paul Holmgren, but it no longer seems out of the question; in fact, I expect it.

MIKEY’S PERSONAL BLOG 143, February 2019
On Monday night, I went to my Boxing small group training session at CinFull Fitness. Quite a few people were running late so Cinamon and I were wondering if anyone was going to turn up for tonight’s class. Luckily, Jade, Patrick, James and Scarlett ended up coming in the end. Tonight’s workout consisted of: several boxing drills, med ball slams and kettle bell squats (5 reps +5 each round), 3 rounds of walking lunges, 10 squats and 10 push ups, one minute of jab box combos (increasing by 1-2 reps).
I was struggling a little tonight. Maybe it was due to my sleeping problems, lack of energy during the day, lack of air circulation, group performance anxiety, who knows? But I feel like my boxing technique is gradually improving. At times, I do miss a rep or forget a movement but I just keep going, keep trying and keep striving. Thankfully the weather outside was pretty mild and not overly hot so I could breathe and recover easily.
On Tuesday night, I did my Body Balance class with Astrid Christophersen at YMCA Casey RACE. The weather was acting particularly strange tonight. One minute it was clearing up, the next it delivered another downpour of rain. Luckily I was undercover inside the group fitness room when it did decide to come down. Tonight we ended up doing release number 68 which consists of tracks including Of The Night by Bastille, Elastic Heart by Sia, Come Get It Bae by Pharell Williams, Maps by Maroon 5 and Pretty Hurts by Beyonce.
It was generally a pretty cruisey release with a double Tai Chi Warm Up to start. Sun Salutations & Standing Strength (Mountain pose, Downward Facing Dog, Plank, Crocodile, Intense pose, Warrior 1 into Warrior 3. Triangle pose. Side Angle pose). Balance & Hip Openers (Eagle pose, Angel pose, Star pose, Divers pose, Frog pose, Swan pose with quad stretch). Pilates (Oblique twists with crunches, Extended toe taps, Bridge pose, Arm balances, Crocodile pose). Twists (Seated twist, Twisted Down Dog, Twisted Pyramid pose). Hamstrings (Supine Hamstring stretch, Turtle pose, Wide Legged Forward Fold). http://www.totallylesmills.com/site/BODYBALANCE
On Thursday morning, I had an appointment to see my psychiatrist Dr. Ricardo Peralta at Vita Healthcare in Mount Eliza. Today it honestly felt like I had a snowball of pressure mounting up inside of me. It didn’t help that I was feeling weary and restless either. It was difficult to tell if my medication (50mg Quetiapine) was actually having a benefit besides making me sleep for longer. Sadly it wasn’t doing much for my energy levels during the day as I’ve felt a steep decline this week.
The 50 minute drive from home to Vita Healthcare honestly felt like a chore possibly because I had a large to-do list to get through today. Annoyingly, I felt sleepy the entire time behind the wheel which meant that I had to dig up extra energy to concentrate and focus more on the road. I relaxed a little when I finally arrived at the clinic, though it didn’t take long for me to get really flustered and nervous. I guess I really didn’t want this appointment to be a waste of time and actually get my money’s worth. (Dr. Ricardo is NOT cheap to see but he’s worth it!).
It didn’t spend much time beating around the bush, I got straight to the heart of the matter: my sleeping problems and low energy levels. I asked him whether he knew of a sleep specialist that I could see in order to get a sleep study done and come up with an official diagnosis. Thankfully he did and he wrote me up a referral to see one located at Wattletree Consulting Rooms in Frankston. Now the next step will be to book an appointment with them and hopefully they can work out why my sleep has been so terrible.
I couldn’t explain why I was feeling so anxious today. Perhaps it could be related to the unstable and inconsistent weather this month, my poor sleeping patterns, not eating the right foods, my mood swings, high stress levels from work. Could be a whole lot of things. But things felt a lot more smoother today at the clinic with the receptionist processing my medicare rebate and booking another appointment for me. Unlike my last visit in which everything felt like it was up in the air. https://www.vitahealthcare.com.au/our-team/#ricardo
On Thursday night, I cooked a basic fish and chips with steamed vegetables for dinner. This was probably the easiest meal I’ve done so far and thank goodness for that because I haven’t been feeling particularly energetic recently. Following this recipe, you start by mixing chopped herbs, olive oil and lemon juice together. This will be the coating for your fish at the end. Then you can fry up the fish fillets in a frying pan. I bought the blue grenadier as they were on special at Coles. Whilst this is happening, you can cook up some frozen chips in the oven and steamed vegetables in the microwave. That’s pretty much it. https://www.mumslounge.com.au/lifestyle/food/lemon-herb-fish-fillets-recipe/
On Friday morning, I caught up with my Mum and her friend Jules for coffee at Degani Cranbourne Park. We spent an hour talking about our experiences with driving tests, Jules’ recent overseas trips to Scotland and the Northern Territory (Watch out for those crocs!) to our poor sleeping patterns and finding sustainable employment. It was a nice time even with all the visual and auditory distractions that a large shopping centre tends to bring.
On Friday night, Mum and I went out to the movies to see Escape Room at Village Cinemas Fountain Gate. *START SPOILERS* Directed by Adam Robitel (Insidious: The Last Key), this film combines elements from Saw, Cube and Final Destination and is based upon the idea of real-life escape rooms. Six strangers get send a mysterious package containing a black cube and once opened, they discover that they’re each invited to participate in an escape room challenge hosted by MINOS ESCAPE ROOMS. There is a cash prize of $10,000 up for grabs for the winner.
Let’s run through each of the strangers. Zoey Davis (Taylor Russell) is a quiet achiever, has a shy personality and university student studying Quantum Physics. Ben Miller (Logan Miller) works inside a store room at a local grocery store and is generally an arsehole to everyone. Jason Walker (Jay Ellis) is a stockbroker from a major corporation and is very cocky and arrogant. Mike Nolan (Tyler Labine) is the oldest and also the most likable and talkative of the bunch. Amanda Harper (Deborah Ann Woll) is a war survivor and has claustrophobia plus post-traumatic stress disorder. And Danny Khan (Nik Dodani) is a video game nerd, escape room veteran and very annoying (He just won’t shut up!).
Once they all arrive inside the waiting room, this is when the game actually begins. The objective is to find clues hidden around the room, solve puzzles and find a way to “escape” each room. But the twist here is that these rooms are designed to kill the participants inside. This first room for example becomes a giant furnace. The rooms themselves become more complex and elaborate as it goes on. The strangers also discover that they are actually connected to each other by the fact that each of them have been the sole survivor of a major traumatic event.
Later on, we also discover that the “game” is being controlled by a mysterious Game Master named Dr. WooTan Yu, who’s name seems to pop up everywhere in each of the rooms. Speaking of rooms, they are very creatively designed and easily the best feature of the film. My favourite would have to be a deadly bar complete with a billiard table and a liquor shelf. Each time the phone rings, an ear-piercing dial-tone noise can be heard and the room suddenly starts falling apart to reveal an elevator shaft on the outside. Then the classic song “Downtown” by Petula Clark starts playing and gets increasingly more distorted.
Like the films I mentioned before, each of the strangers starts to get knocked off one by one until there’s only two left. Of course the film doesn’t come to a simple conclusion but throws in plenty of twists and leaves it open to a future sequel. Besides the corny dialogue and paper-thin characters, I still really enjoyed what Escape Room had to offer in terms of the thrilling set pieces and a shadowy organisation pulling the strings. 7.5/10 *END SPOILERS* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXk5qYKpq0Q

“Now I'm not looking for absolution. Forgiveness for the things I do. But before you come to any conclusions. Try walking in my shoes. Try walking in my shoes. You'll stumble in my footsteps. Christian Bale: ‘I was asked to do a romantic humor. I thought they’d lost their minds’
The actor, famed for playing brooding, injury people, is back playing, well, a dwell, shattered man in the gritty western Hostiles. He talks about why the film industry has to change, balding up to play Dick Cheney and why he will never, ever, do a romcom
The interview’s firstly astounds is that a chubby, grungy flesh is filling the Beverly Hills hotel sofa set aside for Christian Bale. The phony athletics a shaved brain, heavy paunch, worn pitch-black T-shirt and khaki camouflage trousers. He looks like a bouncer, maybe, or a resting football rowdy, but surely not the man who daddies up on inventories of the sexiest stars alive. But Bale it is, fall into the seat, occupying his latest physical change.” I ingest a lot of pies ,” he says.
The actor is well known for going to extremes- gorging, starving, bodybuilding- which reshape his physique from Olympian to emaciated to portly and back. He has just done it again, parcelling on the pounds and travelling near-bald to performance Dick Cheney. At persons under the age of 43, these alterations are not getting easier.” I’ve got to stop doing it. I suspect it’s going to take longer to get this off ,” he says, marking the belly.
But the chances of Bale not going all the way for a role are, on the basis of the ensuing interview, negligible. He may be from the smaller Pembrokeshire town of Haverfordwest and speak with an emphatic , non-posh English accent, but he is America’s Zelig: a versatile talent who personifies his adopted country’s dreams and nightmares with singular physicality and intensity.
A driving force, apparently, is danger.” The information anybody hires me is remarkable ,” says the Oscar-winner( for The Fighter in 2011) hired by Terrence Malick, Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan and David O Russell. It could be spurious decorum, but Bale seems genuinely are concerns that someday the labor- on average one or two films a year over the past two decades- could dry up.” That could be really short-lived .”

Bale reputedly has a feeling. He was arrested for reportedly assaulting his mother and sister at the Dorchester hotel in London in 2008. The experts did not press charges, citing sufficient evidence. The same time, he propelled an expletive-filled tirade against board of directors of photography on the change of Terminator: Redemption in 2009. A leaked audio recording zinged in all the regions of the internet.
Both are foreboding forebodings that set up the interview’s second stun: today, Bale is affable, chatty, relaxed. He laughter. Maybe it is because of a cold- he is under the weather and sips lemon tea- but it comes out as a wheezing gurgle that for all the world sounds like Muttley, the cartoon dog.
Asked if the nearly decade-old on-set meltdown bird-dogs him- it is the laughingstock of jokes and charades- he shrugs.” Parties don’t mention it to me, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t follow me around. I’m not well informed it if it does .”
Bale has brought glamours, anxiety and taut menace to memorable capacities straddling from Batman to Patrick Bateman, the axe-wielding yuppie of American Psycho( 2000 ). He plays- spoiler alert- another meditate, detriment, hyper-masculine persona in the potent film Hostiles . As a US army captain, he is tasked with escorting a Cheyenne chief through 1892 western badlands. Blood flows as Bale’s character kills, stabs, suffers and mourns.
Bale in American Psycho …’ I’d no idea beings met it as anything other than irony .’ Photograph: Sportsphoto Ltd ./ Allstar
The actor adversaries Robert De Niro and Daniel Day-Lewis for diving deep- physically and psychologically. He doesn’t do it for fun.” There is a much simpler mode, but I can’t do it. I don’t know if it’s because I don’t have any exercise. I ascertain actors who can just be themselves and then swap and give these really incredible achievements, and then switching over to being themselves. I find I start chuckling because I’m too aware that it’s still me. So I try to get as distant as possible. Otherwise, I can’t do it .”
Hence the metamorphoses.” It’s helpful not to look like yourself. If I look in the reflect and extend,’ Ah, that doesn’t definitely sounds like me ,’ that’s helpful .” Bale vowed to not pack on weight again after playing a conman in American Hustle( 2013 ), merely to bloat anew to play Cheney in the biopic Backseat( film after Hostiles ), leaving him now, periods after wrapping, facing another extreme nutrition.” These pants are one of the few pairs I’ve got that have these belts on the side so I can still fit into’ em .” A fluctuating waistline, he says, has consequences.” I’m not big-hearted on shop, so you end up with a lot of elasticated happenings .”
He is calmest, he says, during extreme fasting, such as the time “hes losing” 27 kg( 60 lb) for The Machinist in 2004 (” attains De Niro definitely sounds like an uncommitted wuss “, Peter Bradshaw wrote in the Guardian’s review ).” It’s an stunning suffer doing that. When you’re so skinny that you can hardly go up a flight of stairs … you’re, like, this being of pure anticipate. It’s like you’ve abandoned your torso. That’s the most Zen-like state I’ve ever been in my life. Two hours sleep, reading a volume for 10 hours straight without stopping … prodigious. You couldn’t ruffle me up. No rollercoaster of excitements .” Alas, it doesn’t last.” As soon as “youre starting” putting the nutrient back in your gut, the rollercoaster coming through .”
Sipping his tea, admiring the afternoon sunshine seeping through a canopy of palm trees, Bale arrays over a variety of topics: the US’s polarisation, Hollywood gossips, feminism, the fright of romantic comedies.

First, there is a movie to promote. Bale announces Hostiles a western with harsh, modern-day resonance. Based on an unpublished manuscript by the late screenwriter Donald Stewart, it is written, induced and directed by Scott Cooper, who previously directed Black Mass, Crazy Heart and Out of the Furnace.
It opens with the butchery of a white family by Comanches, then alters to Command Joe Blocker, a grizzled, prejudiced ex-serviceman of the genocidal Indian campaigns who is forced by political employers to escort a former foe, a croaking Cheyenne chief give full play to Wes Studi, on a 1,000 -mile odyssey to his tribal homeland.
The arc of polarisation and redemption grabbed Bale from the outset.” It was a gut feeling of reading it, wanting to read it again and thinking: there’s really something here that I can preoccupy with for a number of months. It’s an incredible story of American history from the point of view of a mortal who is absolutely destroyed with bigotry and hatred, experiencing his channel back to being human .”
Speaking Cheyenne dialogue was nerve-racking, but uplifting, says Bale.” It’s a beautiful conversation; exceedingly poetic, with a wonderful rhythm to it .” Chief Phillip Whiteman, a Cheyenne consultant who tutored Bale, says the actor nailed it:” The pleasure that it brought me to hear our speech being saved through a character such as Chris’s, this became me emotional. This is going to live on for ever, captured by this big screen .”
The film, fire on location in Colorado and New Mexico in the summer of 2016, objective up reflecting Trump-era topics, says Bale.” We didn’t think that when we started it, but it just started becoming clear as we experienced what was happening in America- picturing how cozy parties were becoming in showing disregard for the other .”
Revelations about sex misbehaviour in Hollywood underscore the film’s observation that” everything is run by age-old grey humen”, he says.” The richness that we could all experience if we started cuddling a much more extensive variety of sources of storytelling from dames, from minorities .” Worthy hopes, but some commentators complain that in Hostiles the native attributes are ciphers.
Nonetheless, Bale supposes the cascade of post-Harvey Weinstein scandals will permanently change Hollywood.” I can’t see that this will become a footnote and be swept under the carpet. It does feel like it will change .” Since moving to Los Angeles in the 90 s, he has worked on dozens of movies, indies such as Laurel Canyon, blockbusters such as Exodus: Divinities and Kings, and garlanded grub such as The Big Short . But he says he was unaware of sexual mismanagement in the industry.
” Some beings might announce me almost reclusive. Nothing gossips with me. I was clueless. If I’m not making a film, I don’t really socialise with that numerous people who stir movies. The throw couch, yes, I’d heard of that. But specifics? No , good-for-nothing at all. Do I believe that it has all been happening? Perfectly .”
Surprising Bale fact: he is Gloria Steinem‘s stepson. His now-deceased father wedded the feminist author in 2000.” It was news to me; I was in Germany ,” says Bale, wheeze-chortling anew.” I found out about it afterwards .” He has not discussed Hollywood’s scandals with her, he says, but contemplates himself a feminist.” If we’re talking equality, absolutely .”
Asked about Ridley Scott expunging Kevin Spacey from All the Money in the World, Bale pauses.” Ridley’s a really smart husband, a acquaintance of mine. I imagine he’s made precisely the right choice .” He says he has been too busy hitting Backseat to say more.” I don’t know if the allegations were so heinous that it was a moral choice of Ridley’s or if it was a strictly business select .”
In Empire of the Sun with John Malkovich. Picture: Everett Collection/ Rex Feature
In playing Cheney, Bale strove “pathways to understanding” George W Bush’s vice-president.” What you discover when you start investigating any person is nobody is singularly bad or singularly good. He’s a wonderful family man, by all chronicles. He didn’t hesitate for a second when his daughter Mary announced that she was a lesbian despite the fact that was complete anathema to his party at that time .”
Bale withholds his own opinions on Cheney’s politics.” I don’t want to do this as a’ nudge-nudge, wink-wink’ action. I don’t want to be divulging my own political bends and then making a little joke. It’s totally irrelevant what I contemplate. I’m an actor, I’m a vessel of that persona .”
Bale was born in 1974 to atypical parents. His father, Jenny, was a circus musician and his father, David, an entrepreneur and flair administrator. They moved frequently- Bale recollects an idyllic stint in Portugal. The future Batman cracked into acting aged eight in a commercial for the fabric softener Lenor. Two year later, he was on the West End in London, playing opposite Rowan Atkinson in The Nerd. At 13, he property the starring role in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of JG Ballard’s memoir Empire of the Sun.
Overnight, he grew famed- and the family’s primary earner, which motivated a love-hate rapport with playing.” There was none( else) to make any fund. At that age, it was,’ Oh, Christ, I’ve got to be the breadwinner .’ That was no fun. So there’s always been a bit of disliking because of that .”
After his mothers divorced, he moved with “his fathers” to Los Angeles. American Psycho, based on Bret Easton Ellis’s novel, launched Bale as a leading man with a very sharp rim.” When I read the book, I was chortling straight away. I’d no idea beings envisioned it as anything other than parody .”
Then came acclaimed recitals in Chris Nolan’s Batman trilogy, though Bale is self-critical. He wanted the superhero, for once, to be more interesting than the villains. Then Heath Ledger transformed in a sublime accomplishment as the Joker in The Dark Knight, leaving the caped reformer comparatively vanilla by comparison.” I didn’t attain what my design was there .”
Bale has admitted conflicted thoughts over Ben Affleck acquiring the role , but denies any finding on Batman v Superman and Justice League, saying he hasn’t seen either.
His two children- the product of his marriage to Sandra Blazic- have not pictured his own movies, but taunt his thespian efforts during games at home, he says.” They reckon I’m the worst actor ever. My daughter can’t believe that anyone pays me .”
Time’s up, so a final query: has he examined nostalgic comedy?
Bale bats the question back with what is just like a challenge.” Have you ever enjoyed a nostalgic slapstick ?” I pause and he presses the time.” Have you ever enjoyed a romantic comedy ?”
A few, I say, but my recollection blanks.
” Can you name’ em ?”
Er, When Harry Met Sally.
” That’s going back quite a roads, isn’t it? You’re hard pressed .” He shakes his head.” I was asked to do a romantic slapstick lately and I thought they’d lost their thinkers. Felines have those insane half hours every evening. I think it must have been that for the yield fellowship. I don’t know why anyone would ever give me a nostalgic slapstick. I find American Psycho very funny .”
Hostiles is released in the UK on 5 January 2018

HYEM, full company, Theatre503, photo by Nick Rutter
The Fountain Park Estate in Blyth, Northumberland doesn’t have a fountain or a park and is pretty bleak so Mick and Sylv’s home is a warm and welcoming sanctuary for the local disenfranchised young waifs and strays from the estate – or is it!
At the beginning of Hyem (Geordie for home) we meet Alan “Dummey” Dummett a 14-year-old who seems to have broken into the house and is watching porn when Sylv comes home from work and surprises him telling him that “Porn and politics. That’s all that’s ever on in this house”. They’re soon joined by two young girls, Shelly and Laura (who’ve invited Dummey in) who seem to be living in the house with the brooding, menacing figure of Dean who has a teardrop tattooed on his cheek and a pet snake called Vivienne Leigh who he feeds frozen mice to. There’s also the unseen but often heard dog called Clark Gable. Then in comes Londoner Mick, Sylv’s partner and a force of nature – at one moment kind and welcoming and the next moment, aggressive and foreboding.
It seems that Mick and Sylv are more than happy to use their home a safe place for kids. They all come from dysfunctional homes and are subject to bullying and abuse and seem happy to be there. The first half of Hyem is very funny with some wonderful lines – at times it’s almost farcical but there’s always an undertone of something not being quite right in this home away from home. Mick seems to be an ex-military man and a left-wing political activist but he says he has a Porsche in the garage and is full of contradictions. He’s taken with Dummey because he reminds him of someone called Michael who turns out to be Mick’s son. Gradually things darken and whilst there’s still humour in the interaction of the characters, events take a turn for the worse as a brick is thrown through the window and they receive hate mail aimed at Mick.
Hyem is Philip Correia’s debut play and a fine one it is. It’s a superb black comedy which at times has overtones of Joe Orton mixed in with John Godber’s brand of northern humour which is not a bad thing. It’s a rollercoaster of a ride taking in various issues such as the claustrophobia of council housing estates, bullying, child abuse, Iraq, terrorism (it’s set in 2003) and paedophilia. It does it with humour and pathos whilst pondering the various issues it addresses. There are some wonderful set-pieces especially when Vivienne Leigh goes missing and then when they don’t have lemon and salt for their tequila, they’re forced to make do with a satsuma and Canderel!
All of the cast of six are excellent. Charlie Hardwick as Sylv is very funny but with a real edge when it’s called for; why does she and Mick let these kids into their home? Patrick Driver gives Mick a veneer of welcoming bon homie but underneath it, there’s something not quite right – is he a Pied Piper leading the kids somewhere they don’t want to go? Aimee Kelly (Laura), Sarah Balfour (Shelley), Joe Blackmore (Dean) and Ryan Nolan (Dummey) are four young actors who are all perfect in their respective roles especially Nolan who’s making his professional stage debut. Jonny Kelly directs the piece with pace, energy and élan especially in the way the actors go on and off the stage during scene changes. And a special mention of Jasmine Swan’s single room set which is a delight with the walls full of objects such as stuffed animals, pictures, and bondage gear – a cross between a musty old bric a brac shop and Anne Summers.
Hyem is on until September 23rd at Theatre 503 one of London’s best above the pub theatres – go and see it – you won’t be disappointed.
Review by Alan Fitter
Hyem – Noun; place of family, sanctuary and comfort; Adverb: “I’m gannin’ hyem” – I’m going home. (Geordie/Old English/Scandinavian)
Everyone says Mick and Sylv’s is dangerous. So why does Dummey feel it’s so much like home? Young Alan “Dummey” Dummett doesn’t fit in. He lives on the Fountain Park Estate, Northumberland, voted the second worst estate to live in Britain 1992. It doesn’t even have a fountain. Or a park. His school…the Police…even his parents don’t want him. Nobody does. Until he meets Mick and Sylv.
Dummey’s found a new home but one with consequences he could never imagine. A runner up in the Papatango New Writing Prize HYEM (yem, hjem, home) is a play about belonging, broken families and finding somewhere safe in a world about to go to war.
