“The fact that I’m here? Yeah... I’m just gonna warn you right now, that’s really not a good sign.”

“I don’t have time for this! Either move out of my way or figure out why the hell they call me chaos.”

What’s Noka doing while Appa’s missing from the gang?

At this point, Noka has finally (much to her dismay) joined the Gaang and is fulfilling her destiny of helping the Avatar. This is what she was up to after Appa was taken.

Noka stared up at the sky, eyes squinting against the point on the horizon that Aang had disappeared into. She felt bad about him losing his bison, sure, but she had to admit that this felt a bit dramatic. Of course, she didn't know Aang as well as Sokka and Katara did, so maybe this was just how the boy was. Either way, she had to admit it was a little bit inconvenient for him to leave them alone in the middle of the desert. Shrugging, she turned around to face the rest of the group who all looked about annoyed as she felt.

"We'd better start walking. We're the only people who know about the solar eclipse," Katara said once she saw that she had Noka's attention. "We have to get that information to Ba Sing Se."

"Wait, hold on. Noka's all Avatar-y, can't she just airbend us out of here so we don't have to trek through the desert?" Sokka interrupted, eyes darting between Katara and Noka as if waiting for one of the girls to argue with him.

"Chaos Avatar, but I don't have airbending right now." Noka snapped her fingers and lit a small fire on the end of each of her fingertips to emphasize her point. "And even if I did, what do you expect me to do? It's not like any of us have gliders."

"Exactly," Katara replied, rolling her eyes at her brother before she started walking in the direction Aang took off. She didn't wait for the rest to follow, but called over her shoulder, "If you don't want to get left behind in the middle of nowhere, I suggest you all follow me."

Noka extinguished the flames alight in her hand, shrugged noncommittally, and followed after the girl. "We're gonna die out here one way or another. I guess I'd rather die trying to get out of here than die relaxing on a sand dune.”

"That's the opposite of what I want to hear right now, Noka," Sokka grumbled as he joined the group.

Ooo, I haven't talked about Noka in ages! (I also still haven't sat down to finish figuring out her plot, but that's neither here nor there lol)

Anyway, I think this depends entirely on when she dies. If she dies early in her story before she's grown close to the Gaang or before she's met Zuko at all, then I don't think anybody would sit at her grave. She ran away from home, from parents that didn't care about her, so there would be absolutely nobody to mourn her.

If she dies after she's joined the Gaang, but before she's met Zuko, Aang would probably sit at her grave for a long time. They're connected somehow through the Spirits, the Avatar and the Chaos Avatar, so it would probably feel a little bit like he's lost a part of himself. After a while, Noka starts to feel like a sister to him and I think it would take a while for Aang to move on, to get past the grief and guilt he has over her death.

After meeting Zuko, it's one thousand percent Zuko. They're destined to get together, literally, and even before they admit their feelings to each other, Zuko is in love with her. He would be distraught. For a long time after her death, he would sit at her grave for hours on end just talking to her and hoping she hears him. Even after he moves on and gets over her death, he would still visit frequently. Her grave starts to become his safe haven where he just sits to get away from everything for a while.

Alex is ambitious and strong-willed about everything she does. She wants to be the best and she's not ready to let anybody stop her. Alex is also extremely resourceful and she knows what to do to get what she wants and needs. She is determined and stops at nothing to achieve her goals.

Jakob Burnouf ~ Hufflepuff

Jakob cares deeply about the people in his life and his loyalty is unbreakable. He sticks to the sidelines, doesn't like to put himself in the spotlight, but he'll so anything required of him if it means helping a loved one. He's honest to a fault and, once something captures his attention, he works tirelessly to take care of it.

Penelope Sheppard ~ Ravenclaw

Penny is extremely intelligent and she's fully aware of that, but she doesn't get cocky about it. Her whole life has been a pursuit of knowledge; of learning everything she can about any given subject. She's kind, so she tries not to overshadow others, but she could easily outsmart a wide range of people.

Abby is quiet and reserved; distant from those she doesn't know. Around loved ones, however, she is warm and loving and loyal. Evelyn embodies the worst of this house, using her ambition and her cunning to cause harm. She's intelligent and tricky and she uses these abilities to get around obstacles in her life. Her determination leads her to use extreme means to meet her goals, and she's not afraid to manipulate others to get things done.

Bea isn't afraid to run into danger if it means helping somebody in need. She's as brave as they come, facing difficult life circumstances and coming out on the other side, not unscathed but alive. ✵ Abilities: ✵ As the Chaos Avatar, Noka has control over the four elements of air, fire, water, and earth. She can’t bend them all at once, however, as a result of the chaos aspect of her powers. She can only bend one element at a time and she has no control over what that element is. It switches randomly, sometimes sticking to one element for weeks, and other times switching several times in one day.

ﾟ･:†┏┛ Backstory ┗┓†:･ﾟ

Fittingly, Noka’s life was one full of chaos. She was born in a small Earth Kingdom town to two less-than-loving parents. They were very skeptical of the Spirits and they would use this years later as an excuse for their poor behavior. But, in reality, they were terrible years before they ever found out Noka had anything to do with the Spirits. Regardless of what they knew about her connection to them, it was apparent from a very young age that there was something different about Noka. Her parents had no idea what was wrong with her, but Noka had known since she was old enough to speak. Her past lives spoke to her in her dreams and told her the truth about her destiny. They also warned her and told her to keep the truth a secret. It was safer that way, they told her. She should keep it secret until she no longer could.

It was very easy for her to keep this secret for the first six years of her life because her bending hadn’t revealed itself then. However, a few months after her sixth birthday, her abilities came to light and they all found out that she had been born an earthbender. Her parents’ treatment of her immediately got worse. They claimed that the Spirits had cursed them with a horrible child and that bending was nothing more than a sign of that curse. They went from generally neglecting her, to actively mistreating her. Noka - as the host of Vaatu - was never a perfect child and she got into trouble quite a bit. Yelling became common place in their home and sometimes, if she got into too much trouble, her father would throw her around. She was never hurt too badly, but the toll it took on her mind was more than enough to leave a permanent mark. She grew to resent her parents and every single thing they did.

Finally, at fourteen, Noka had had enough of her parents’ mistreatment of her. She packed her things and ran away from home. She wandered for two years, listening to her past lives who told her to go that she should go around and cause a bit of trouble. They told her all about the joys of chaos, about the joy it brought to people despite all its negative connotations. Then, when she was sixteen, her life changed forever. Her past lives told her that the Avatar had been gone for too long and that she had to do something about it. The balance of the world was being threatened, so now it was her turn to fix it. Her past lives expected her to simply go to the Fire Nation and defeat all the people that had corrupted it. They told her that she was destined to find an enemy who would later become an alley in this great battle against the Fire Nation. That enemy and future alley would be a part of the Avatar’s destiny, as well as her own. Not one to fight her past lives, she followed them.

OC ASKS: If your OCs celebrate Christmas, what present would be at the top of their wish list?

I haven't actually sat down and thought about which OCs might celebrate Christmas and which ones might not. But I think Christmas is a pretty popular holiday and, for the sake of the question, I'll answer this for everyone.

I'm excluding Noka, because Christmas isn't a thing in ATLA, and Evelyn because I can't imagine her evil ass celebrating the holidays. Apollina also isn’t included because she doesn’t tend to partake in human holidays.

Alexandra Thorne

Alex hates asking for presents because she secretly feels bad about people spending money on her. However, after much convincing from Jakob, I think she would attempt to make a wish list. She puts a new set of throwing knives at the top of her list. Jakob buys her the knives and a new holster to match.

Jakob Burnouf

Jakob loves the holiday season, but he really never expects anybody to buy him things. There just aren't enough people in his life that would know him well enough to do that. Regardless, he does make a wish list and puts an expensive magic trick set at the top. Alex buys it for him and he cries.

Penelope Sheppard

Penny tries to ask for small gifts because she really doesn't want the whole gift-giving process to be stressful for anyone. She would much rather give gifts, but Barry refuses to let the holidays pass without getting her something. To appease him, she asks for a new journal. He buys her five.

Adeline Ronan

Addie always celebrates the holidays with her family and they always make a big deal out of everyone making their wish lists. She tries to keep her requests simple, never one to ask for too much. She asks her family for new dragon scales and her friends for a new, fuzzy sweater.

Elliot Ronan

Elliot is not nearly as excited for the holidays as his cousin is, but he likes to see her happy so he always follows along. He always makes a joke list with things on it like “the Hogwarts castle,” but Addie always gets a real list out of him. At the top of his list is a brand-new broom for Quidditch.

Jessica Moreno

Jessica stays at Hogwarts for the holidays because her relationship with her family is pretty tense. She makes a wish list of gifts, but she doesn’t expect anybody to actually buy anything for her. She puts a necklace at the top of her wish list, something small and silver with a little yellow gemstone.

Abigail Rogers

Abby is fascinated by the holidays and celebrating all these things surrounded by your loved ones. Steve always encourages her to make a wish list and ensures that she always gets something nice as a gift. The first thing she would ask for is a new cellphone so she can finally fit in.

Beatrice Velasquez

Bea celebrates the holidays alone with her thoughts until she meets Matt. They always spend the holidays together and Bea loves both giving and receiving gifts. She tries to ask for things that will end up being useful, so a new bottle of perfume would probably sit at the top of her list.

Leah O’Conner

Leah moves around so much that she never really expects anybody to celebrate the holidays with her or buy her a gift of any kind. Her social worker has her make a list every year though - something about being optimistic - and Leah puts a new white cane at the top of her wish list.

Artemas

Artemas enjoys the human holidays and she celebrates them happily when she’s with Druig. When they get together, he always pesters her for a list of gifts she wants because he really wants her to experience the holidays in full. She says time with him is a gift, he complains, she asks for a new quiver.

Betony Pendragon

Betony hates the holidays because of all the fanfare her father insists upon. There are the royal celebrations and the hundreds of nobles she needs to attend to. She much prefers celebrating alone with her brother and exchanging gifts with him. At the top of her list, she asks for a sword. 

Eilwen

Eilwen truly celebrates the holidays for the first time when Merlin and Gaius take her in. It’s always a small celebration just among themselves, but she enjoys the festivities. She doesn’t always understand gift giving or why people want to give her things, but she does ask for a new dress.

Elena Hargreeves

Elena enjoys the holidays, but she misses the days she could celebrate them with her siblings. As terrible as life at the Academy was, she loves her siblings and wishes she could spend time with them. Still, she swaps gifts with her small group of friends and asks for a big, fuzzy blanket.

Mollie Fitzpatrick

Mollie loves celebrating the holidays with Diego, the big grouch who claims he hates it all. She knows he’s lying, and the big smile on his face every time they decorate cookies together is gift enough for her. She does still ask for gifts, of course, and the thing at the top of her list is a new paint set.

Alana Montague

Alana likes to keep her holiday celebrations small and tends to just spend the day with Neal. They watch movies, bake cookies, and swap gifts in the comfort of their own home. She always makes a little wish list and the gift at the top of her list would definitely have to be a painting from Neal.

Eliana Bennett

Eliana has bad memories of the holidays from her childhood, but she enjoys celebrating them on the run. She’s always in some place new, with new people and new celebrations. Her wish list often ends up being a list of things she’ll buy for herself. At the top of her list is a new lockpick set just for fun.
