Relationships: Romantic (could be queerplatonic?) Youngblood/Noise

Notes: Written for day 2 of @acesidesweek !! I used the fantasy prompt as an excuse to write some Roleslaying, so here's some asexual Noise! I'll upload this to ao3 in a few days when I have my laptop so I can sort out the tags properly.

It was evening by the time Youngblood returned to his dorm. He was fortunate to only share a room with one other person, and even more fortunate to share with the person who'd been his best friend since their first day at the bard college, and had recently become his partner.

Noise was lying back on their own bed, staring at the ceiling. That wasn't unusual, especially if he'd had a long day - sometimes they just needed a moment to relax.

"Hey," Youngblood said as he entered the room.

Noise just hummed in acknowledgement.

Youngblood watched them stare, unblinking, at the ceiling for a moment, before he spoke again. "You alright?"

Noise shrugged, much as he could shrug while lying down. "Yeah, I was just... thinking."

"Well, don't hurt your pretty little head," Youngblood said, sitting down on the bed beside them. Noise looked beautiful, with his indigo hair spread out on the pillow, although one curl remained on their forehead. Youngblood reached out to wipe it away.

Noise moved their arm to petulantly flick his hand away, which Youngblood took as a good sign.

Noise still didn't look at him, keeping their gaze fixed on the ceiling, when they spoke. "We were in rehearsal earlier today, and in the break I sat with Andante and Viola."

"Mhm?" Youngblood prompted. He didn't usually have much patience for the giggly, popular bards college, but he knew Noise had something of a tentative friendship with a group of girls in his class.

"Dani was talking about when she made out with her girlfriend at the party last Saturday, and it just got me thinking... I don't think I'm interested in any of that." Noise's voice was strained, anxious almost.

Youngblood shrugged. "I don't like parties either."

"No, I mean..." Noise waved their hands vaguely above their face. "Making out and stuff like that. The thought of it just makes me feel..."

He trailed off, but the vaguely ill look on their face was enough to communicate his feelings on the matter to Youngblood.

"I really like you," Noise said quickly, sitting up. "This doesn't change that, but I don't think I'll ever be ready for that, and um... I guess I understand if you were expecting something else, but..."

"Noisey, look at me," Youngblood said, tilting their chin up. "I love you, ok?" The words scratched at his throat, heavy with emotion. When was the last time he told someone he loved them? When was the last time he trusted someone enough to even consider expressing those feelings? He pushed those thoughts aside - focusing on Noise was the most important thing right now. "I'm not dating you because I want someone to make out with, I'm dating you because you're you. And our relationship is ours, you know? We don't have to do anything other couples do. We can just be us."

"Oh," Noise said, their eyes watering. "I'd like that."

Youngblood reached out, and wiped away the tear that rolled down Noise's cheek with his thumb. "Then that's what we'll do."

Ok so i was listening to the roleslaying playlist (because I'm always listening to the roleslaying playlist) and I was just thinking. I originally thought Hercules by livingstone was about Roman but after chapter 3 I think it's about Noise and Youngblood. There are some lines where the link is more obvious and some where it's a small stretch but like

"Now I’m alive but I’m lonely" Noise survived the burns and the bard kings cruelty but they're lonely :( also Youngblood escaped the bard college and isnt going to be forced to become a weapon but he's all alone :(((

"I’m not the child that you showed me to be" Noise obviously lost a lot of childhood innocence after everything. Or maybe for Youngblood, Noise was the person he could be "a child" carefree and joyful around rather than being The First Chair, and now that he doesn't have Noise he's almost lost that entirely

"I'm terrified cause you know me better than I know myself" Noise and Youngblood both start out trying to antagonise each other but they both knew that it was more than plain anger, and they were almost afraid that the other would know that underneath the aggression they still missed them

"Nowhere to hide or to turn to" Noise is the first chair under the goddamn bard king they're having an absolutely terrible time and unlike while Youngblood was first chair, they don't have anyone to fall back on for support/comfort/distraction

"Ships in the night where I found you, now it's city lights where I'm finding myself" Noise is in Neon, he's the first chair and is (at least supposed to be) coming into his own as a bard and leader

"Send me a sign and I'll come back" they're separated by bad blood and the circumstances they found themselves in, but it only took a day for them to reattach to each other - as soon as they each realised the other still missed them

"Give me a chance to bleed" idk like Noise not being able to show vulnerability for fear of disappointing the bard king? The two of them needing to air out their grievances before they could really be close again?

"I cant be Hercules" maybe refers to Youngblood's power, how the Bard King expects him to be a perfect weapon but he can't really control his power and more importantly he doesn't want to be that

"Now I’m gone" self explanatory, Youngblood is gone, big sad

"Sold my heart to still not know what I’m worth" a reference to them coping with the grief of losing each other by becoming angry, to try to pretend the other never really cared about them even if they kinda know that's not true?

"What is the point of changing if I only lose the one I love" Youngblood changed when he became first chair, becoming more serious probably very stressed etc. It was for the sake of doing well in that position + a consequence of the pressure on him. And that only alienated Noise further from him, as they had already wanted to be first chair and now he's not quite the same person anyway

Personally I really like YoungNoise but I wanna hear some suggestions

Youngblood: uh... starlight?

Noise, coming in from the other room: Yes, moonbeam?

Youngblood:

i like noiseblood because young noise just sounds like you referring to noise as a child lol
