Okay, confession time:

I have no idea what I'm going to do with the Red Fledglings in the NoHoper series. I'm sure the Casts wrote them in as a way to bring back Stevie Rae and it snowballed from there, but the whole fact that they exist breaks the world they built and cheapens their own rules and sense of threat in the plot. Why does it matter if a fledgling rejects the Change, even if they're going to come back different, because they're coming back anyway?

That's one thing, but I'm so sure the Casts don't really know why Neferet would conceivably make a standing army of undead that she cannot actually control; the stated reason seems to be having a standing army, when it seems the more likely reason, from the brain of the mastermind who would kill professors to radicalise her school and the vampyre world at large against humans, would be manufacturing anti-vampyre sentiment when they inevitably went rogue in their pursuit of blood.

Like, I get why they made sense for the Casts' plot in the short-term, but in the long term, they simply break it, and they don't do us the decency of really making sense -- especially because their "undead" qualities were *so fucking easy* to neutralise with the elements! Call me crazy, but I don't think there's anything wrong with having the walking undead in a story - only in making it so easy to make them "living" again, and in a way that undermines your story.

Give me a break.

I'm currently writing background material for the NoHoper (House of Night fanfic) series that focuses on a vampyre's life *after* leaving the HON, working towards goals and aspirations in the vampyre world while juggling human family ties, and I don't know you guys, I just think my application of the rules and setting of this universe is simply *better.*

One would think Zoey having an affinity for both water and air would make it difficult for someone to drown in front of her. But somehow it took Stevie Rae to jump in the pool and save the poor fledgling, rejecting the change in front of them, from drowning. While Zoey just watched.

not to get sucked into the spiral of thinking about sexism on a Thursday afternoon but as someone who just generally interacts with men on what has to be a statistically-lower-than-average basis than most people, seeing men react to women's sports content online (specifically tiktok) literally briefly makes me lose hope in the world. every single time. like isn't it just insane how many men absolutely hate women, and they hate the idea that women can be good at anything, but oh how they loathe the idea that a woman could be good at sports. they salivate at insisting (not even proving, just insisting) she's worse than any given man -- not just a fellow athlete, but any random man off the street. like I get that there's a chance these are all teenage edgelords but THAT is scary in and of itself!!! not to be all #NoHope but seeing that shit online genuinely makes me stare off into nothing for long moments and go: how are we shambling forward as a society when half the populace can or does think like that. AAA

Can you imagine what it might take for someone like Zoey Redbird to take that leap from selfish, immature, self-involved brat to a maturing young adult capable of shouldering the incredible responsibility she has been given and more than equal to the task, who cares deeply for her friends as well as all her classmates, and who is worthy of training to become a high priestess one day?

I can't either -- I'm just wondering if you can.
