Name one idea for a plot you’ve had but never gotten around to writing.

I’m actually gonna do two, because they’re two that have been stuck in my head for a long time.

1) Dark Shikaku Runs Konoha

Basically, Shikaku decides that the third is failing at running the village and sets about slowly gaining the loyalty of those in the village and the respect so that he can run things from the shadows. He doesn’t want to make every decision for the village, but he will not let anyone be put in unneeded harm. So he will counteract the Hokage’s orders when he views it as necessary.

2) Demon Shikaku

The Nara ability to manipulate shadows is due to having Shadow demon blood in them. Shikaku just happens to be the one who’s soul is linked to the original Shadow Demon who started their bloodline. After HQ was attacked during the war, he fell through into the demon world, the Makai, and learned to embrace his demonic side and how to control his powers in full. Now, he’s finally made his way home, four years after the war, to see if he can’t return to the life he’d lead before the demonic side of himself was activated.

     While marriages are typically arranged with thoughts of heirs and lineages and alliances in mind…that apparently isn’t always the case.

     Ryū’s situation has always been an odd one. Lines dying out are hardly rare - such is the reality of a world with so much death and limited populations. Attempting to preserve them is usually a priority. Especially if there is anything useful about them. And part of her has always been curious if Konoha would make subtle, or…maybe not-so-subtle attempts to ensure she did just that.

     But a union of two females does not a very traditional arranged marriage make.

     Not that Ryū is, in theory, opposed. She finds people of all sorts interesting in a potentially-romantic sort of way. And Rin is, well…a very dear friend. So would it really be that strange…?

     Maybe she’s just odd, but in reality she really doesn’t find herself that upset about it. Sure, she does want children someday, but there are certainly other ways to achieve that without a husband. And marriage is, in theory, supposed to be something both romantic and friendly. ‘Marrying your best friend’ is a practice she’s heard of before. And, well…Rin is pretty much her best friend, and certainly pretty. Bright, brave, loyal, funny…is there really much to dislike beyond a lack of choice?

     …maybe it could have been a choice, if things played out right.

     But all that aside, that last aspect is indeed troubling. Not having any say in anything so important to one’s future isn’t exactly…preferred. So Ryū doesn’t blame Rin in the slightest for being against it.

     “Well, I…I think this is pretty workable, myself,” she decides to admit sheepishly, giving a nervous smile and ducking a bit into her shoulders. “…it’s, um…certainly odd, but I mean…we get along, right? I suppose if worse comes to worse, we just…pretend we’re roommates and coworkers and…ignore the rest, right? Except, I guess…the part where we can’t marry anybody else…”

     Well this is quite the turn of events.

     For the most part, Shisui’s time spent as one of the Rokudaime’s personal guards has been, for lack of other words…boring. Post-war, the world sees a pretty big drop in overall violence. Sure, there’s still bandits, still rogues, but for the most part everyone is too tired and too leery of messing up the tentative peace the nations have found after their unified warfront.

     So Shisui’s biggest threats to protect Kakashi from have mostly been papercuts from the ridiculous amount of documents he’s had to go through as Hokage - especially a Hokage post-war with so many new treaties to arrange and take care of.

     Which is why when someone actually dares to attack their caravan on the way to Kumo to meet with the Raikage, Shisui quickly goes overboard, having been rather stir crazy the past several weeks. Which puts their medic, none other than Rin, in a bit of a bind as he throws caution to the wind.

     At least until the Nohara puts her foot down.

     One moment he’s blade-to-blade with a foe, and the next he finds himself tugged to one side as some sort of explosion goes off just left of where he’d been.

     “…well, shit,” he comments mildly, giving her turtle-like defenses a thoughtful glance. She’s still got one arm around his back, the pair of them knelt under the chakra shield provided by her bijū. “Guess I need to thank you for that one, huh?” he offers, giving a grin. “Sorry - I think all the desk work has be a little too eager, heh.”

     You think he’d get used to this by now.

     The little witchy woman is by and large the most affectionate person he’s gotten to know. Not…that that says much, in all honesty. Most of his cohorts are underground buyers and sellers he does runs for. Not exactly friendly folks. Or more recently, he’s had the company of a bunch of snobbish, stoic Uchiha. So his basis of comparison is…rather leaning.

     In all honesty, it takes him a minute to realize what’s going on. He feels an impact against his side, and arms around his middle, but…given just how short Rin is (just about a whole ten inches under his own height), he actually has to look, pause…and then look down.

     “…hello there,” he greets, tone just a little awkward. He’s still not very…adjusted to her random bursts of affection. But he still manages an arm back around her, eyes crinkling with a smile behind his typical kerchief. “Was I looking lonely again?” Kakashi can’t help but tease. “Sorry. Got lost in thought. Need something?”

He just blushes and boops Rin on the nose too.

Rin casually slides over to Ryuu for a smooch.

     “Senpai,” Ryū mumbles, flushing a flustered pink. She knows what that look is suggesting.

     There’s a hint of a hesitation before complying, giving a light brush of lips against Rin’s. As always, they’re soft. So maybe she’ll give them juuust a little nibble. Cuz she can.

“Really now?” Glancing up at his ANBU, one eyebrow raised as he stared at Turtle. 

“Because I recall a certain genin who had quite the crush on her teammate.”

     To Kakashi’s honest surprise, it only takes three days to hear back from Itachi. Given how...unbothered vampire covens tend to be when it comes to time, the quick response almost begs suspicion. But it’s not like they have much choice.

     “We have to do what now?”

     The vampire’s arms cross over his chest, expression still lax. “They want to meet who they’re going to invest time and resources into, Kakashi. A common courtesy, I would think.”

     “I don’t like it.”

     A slender, dark brow perks. “...if you’re worried for miss Nohara’s safety, you needn’t be. The only ones who will be seeing her are our foremost members - they’re not about to turn savage upon seeing a human. They simply wish to see if she’s stable enough to risk taking the time and energy. There’s nothing to worry about.”

     The wolf still looks wary, but gives a sigh of defeat. “...all right. But if one hair -”

     “I will do my absolute best to keep her from any harm...should any threat arise,” Itachi cuts in, brow slightly raised. “I’m not about to put your efforts thus far in jeopardy, Kakashi. I’ve got another pair of eyes, besides - they’ll spot trouble a mile away.”

     That furrows Kakashi’s brow, but he doesn’t retort.

     With that, Itachi gives Rin a glance. “...if you’ve nothing else to discuss...we can get on our way.”

The brow under his scar twitched upwards slightly at the woman’s words, but the faint movement was accompanied with a slight smile on the brunet’s face. Chuckling softly, he gave a slight shrug and stretched on the bed, a slight groan rumbling in his throat. “Well, I’m not saying no...”

     Doing her best to stand resolutely in front of the supply room door, Ryū grits her teeth against a couple of shinobi. They, apparently, have it in their heads that they’re going to get past her into where the painkillers are stored, and make off with them.

     And as unprepared as she is for this sort of thing, she’s currently the only one around.

     Or so she thinks.

     Glowering at the pair before her, there’s a slight jostle as she finds herself tugged to someone’s side. And that someone happens to be Rin. Giving the elder medic a surprised glance, Ryū then can’t help an internal sigh of relief. She is not exactly combat-ready.

     With someone full-grown now involved (and looking severely pissed, if Rin’s expression is anything to go by), the would-be robbers weigh their odds before bolting.

     “And stay out!”

     Harrumphing with a fold of her arms, Ryū nonetheless wilts in relief once they’re out of sight, turning to give Rin a sheepish look. “T…thanks, senpai. Guess I’m not very, uh…intimidating, am I?”

Kakashi finger-gunned, his blush barely hidden by the lopsided mask. “Sounds like someone’s tryna get intoooo-“ he broke off as he got up, head spinning. As he righted himself, he looked back at her. “What was the question? Sorry.”
