Blood Bonds
Part two
Part one
You knocked on the office door and waited patiently. It had been five days since Bong-hui had been arrested for murder. Five days since you'd seen her. Five days you had come to this office and tried to persuade Mr Bahng to help you.
The door swung open and you instantly began your practised speech.
“I know you said you couldn't help, but you have to listen to me. I was with her all evening, we were only apart for fifteen minutes. You have to look into it again. Bong-hui is innocent and I need you to-” two hands gripped your shoulders making you finally look up at the person in front of you. Blinking you realised it was not your father figure but Ji-uk.
“You have to stop coming here, miss y/l/n. We are doing everything we can to find the truth.” He said slowly guiding you away from the door.
You looked into his eyes searching through them as if they would give you answers.
“You'll convict her. It's always the same.” You said as tears sprang into your eyes.
“What? No, I mean, y/n we are investigating what happened, we have your statement, so you don't have to keep coming here.” you could see the stress in the dark circles around his eyes.
“Can I trust you?” You ask in almost a whisper.
“I'll do everything I can to find the truth.” Ji-uk replied, his hands still holding you.
“Then I can count on you. You're the only person that can do it.”
“Why would you do that? Why would you trust me?” He asked you.
“I will, I will count on you. You're the only person who knows the law and has power. You can help her.” you brought your hand up to clutch his arm.
Ji-uk was trying hard to keep his composure together, having you this close to him only made him feel worse. In the last five days he had been struggling with the reality he found himself in. A person he had known, perhaps was even becoming friends with had allegedly committed murder. All the evidence pointed at her, yet here you were begging them everyday. Your sad eyes burning a hole in his soul.
‘Ominous predictions are usually right.’ he thought to himself. ‘this is the worst possible situation I could imagine.’
“Y/n we need to work, Mr Bahng and I need to work. We cannot do that if you are here all the time. You need to spend some time outside, or visit family for a while.” He said.
You ran your hand up to his, removing it from your shoulder and held it between you.
“I have no family, Bong-hui and Mr Bahng are all I have. Whatever pressure you're under I know you'll do the right thing. I know you know she is innocent. If you care about her in any way, you have to do what is right.” you press your lips together, bow slightly and turn away from him. Ji-uk looked down at his hand, the feel of your soft skin against his tired palm still lingered.
Days went by each one blurring into the next. You would visit your friend whenever you could and reassure her that everyone was trying to help her. The days you couldn't visit her were days when Ji-uk was interrogating her. As he sat there listening to her beg him his mind wandered back to his childhood to a monk, he was sure was fake and the premonition he had given.
“From what I can see, there's one person like that in your fate. You'll get in huge trouble if you cross paths with her. That woman will completely destroy your life, but she brings the answer that will build you once more.”
He scoffed at the memory before packing his things and leaving Bong-hui alone.
He wouldn't see her again until the first day of the trial.
You sat in the front row beside Bong-hui's mother. She held your hand in her lap, for her own comfort more than yours.
“It doesn't feel right being back here does it?” She said to you with a sad smile.
“It will be better this time, I'm sure.” You said, attempting to squash your own fears. It had been over a decade since you had last been in a courtroom where you watched the man who killed your parents be set free and an innocent man spend the rest of his life in jail for it.
Bong-hui was already sitting with her lawyer and her eyes would catch yours occasionally. Each time you'd give her a small smile.
Ji-uk came in quickly, sweeping across the room to his seat. Black robes with a deep red sash adoring his shoulders, floated around his body. As he took his seat his eyes met yours. Blinking rapidly he turns away from you and glances across the room to Bong-hui.
During the opening statements you hated the way your body reacted to his voice. The way your eyes followed his hand that moved in the air, or held papers in front of him. In your mind you cursed him for saying anything against your friend. Even though you knew it was his job. As the trial wore on and each witness came up to the stand you could see how weary Ji-uk was becoming. He loosened his tie a little.
Then it was time for Bong-hui to take the stand. You wished she had thought before opening her mouth. It was a trait you liked the least about her. Bong-hui's mouth ran faster than her brain and she quickly talked herself into sounding like a murderer.
You left the courtroom the moment they called and ended the day. You needed the fresh air, to be alone to think.
**************
The following morning you stood and watched as your friend was dragged into the court surrounded by a gaggle of reporters flashing cameras and questions at her. You didn't feel the person walk up beside you at first until his arm nudged your own. You jumped and turned to Ji-uk.
“I'm sorry I didn't mean to frighten you.” He said.
“But you are. You are frightening me. Every moment you fight against Bong-hui I'm scared of what will happen.” You say.
“I'm doing my job.” He sighed and you can see the turmoil that rages inside him.
“Your job is to find the real culprit not to convict the easy option.” Your words stung him like a wasp and you turned away. Ji-uk watched every step you make toward the courthouse and he wonders if he will change his mind. He'd have to be sure not to look your way at any moment.
Your disappointment doubled when Ji-uk presented the murder weapon. A knife. A flash of memory jolted your body and Mrs Eun grabbed your hand. A bloody knife was a memory of your childhood you'd wished to forget. You couldn't help but let silent tears fall from your eyes as they questioned the forensic doctor. Resigning yourself to only seeing your friend through glass for the rest of her life.
“Prosecutor, please give your closing statement.” The judge spoke clearly. Ji-uk finally looked at you, his chest shook and his mind shut off when he saw the tears on your face. You did not look back at him, but kept your eyes firmly on Bong-hui. He was glad of it, because if you looked at him now, Ji-uk knew he would crumble.
“Yes, your honour “ he cleared his throat and stood, “the defendant, Eun Bong-hui is charged with murder. After luring the victim, Hang Hui-jun to her apartment in Goyang, Gyeonggi province on may 11, 2015.
Hence the prosecution calls for a suitable punishment for the defendant. She permitted the murder. She didn't repent her crime as she lied during the whole trial, and the victim's family is asking for a severe punishment. Taking these into account, according to article 250 of the criminal code I ask that she be sentenced to 15 years in prison for first degree murder.” He sat down, taking the weight of his shaking legs, his eyes drifting back to you. You were looking at him, anger in your eyes, disappointment and blame. He couldn't do this. He couldn't ruin two lives like this. He knew he was about to lose his job and the respect of the law but he had to do it. How could he dishonour his father in this way? He just wanted you to smile at him.
Bong-hui's lawyer began to speak his own closing statement but was cut off when Ji-uk stood abruptly from his desk. He presented the second knife and admitted to lying about its existence. The judge is unhappy about it but agrees to drop all charges against Bong-hui. You take in a staggered breath.

Just missing these two crackheads who set the screen on fire in Suspicious Partner .
I have never understood why KDramas don’t cast a pair together again! I would love to watch these two get together on the screen again!

Blood bonds - A Suspicious Partner fanfic
Based on the KDrama with the same name Y/N is an English born woman living in South Korea and is best friends with Eun Bong-Hui. You get caught up in a murder trial and fall for a prosecutor who may or may not have slept with your friend.
Noh Ji-uk and reader.
(I know there isn't a massive call for kdrama fabrics but I wrote this so I hope you enjoy it.)
Part one
Arriving back in Korea felt like a dream, it had been too long since you'd been in the home of your soul. Nothing would stop you from leaving it again, no job offer would sway you another time. You were far from a native of the country but there was no other place that made you feel as comforted as the beauty of Seoul. Waiting at the gate for you was Bong-hui, your eldest and dearest friend. You were itching to give the girl a hug, she had split with her boyfriend around two weeks ago, potentially slept with a random guy and then started working for him. Her life had been a series of unfortunate events her whole life, but at least you were both entertained.
Bong-hui’s embrace told your muscles that you were home and you finally relaxed.
“Come on, let's get home.” she giggled and took you back to her small apartment. The two of you had been friends since your mother's met in the local supermarket. Dure you were a year older than Bong-hui but that never was a problem for the two of you. It had been like your souls had been sisters in another life.
Settling into her home took no time and you spent a few days cleaning it up whilst your friend worked. She appreciated the act of service, which had always been your love language. One afternoon you decided to meet her for lunch outside the prosecution office. There was a tissue hanging out of one nostril, a hint of blood soaking into it.
“What happened to you?” You giggled sitting next to her.
“A client. It was an accident.” She laughed back. As the two of you ate the sandwiches you'd bought with you, a couple walked up the steps. You recognised the man instantly as Bong-hui's now ex-boyfriend. She'd sent you plenty of pictures.
“Watch me cursing you. You better remember because I'll be sure to kill you.” She sang at the pair when they walked past. You nudge her in the ribs.
The woman huffed and turned back.
“Would you stop it?” She asked.
“Why? Is singing bad in this country?” Bong-hui quipped back at her. You had to stifle a giggle with a hand over your mouth.
“I know that you are singing this on purpose, so that we hear you. By the way, I heard that you threw yourself on the prosecutor to make a good impression. What right do you have to criticise us?” The woman scolded.
“That's enough. Her trick didn't even work. Try to wash your hair regularly though.” Bong-hui's ex said. Just as you were about to stand up and let out your anger at the pair a tall man in a flashy suit rounded the corner.
“Miss Eun, I've been looking for you.” He said. His voice matches his good looks and you couldn't help scanning his body. You were bold, blame your western routes, you laughed to yourself.
“I was about to go in. Give me a minute.” Your friend rushed to finish her sandwich
The man took a step closer to her, “I…I missed you.” he said, his face not entirely matching the words. Confusion painted everyone's faces as you all looked at him.
“It's only been a couple of minutes. Miss Sun, you are dirty, yet beautiful.” He tried to stop the grimace from taking over his face, “do people know that I fell for you at first sight?” He used words that you may have used describing him.
The awkwardness of the interaction made the couple sneer and walk away. You had caught on pretty quick that he was trying to help her in his own odd way.
“That was weird.” You commented when the pair were gone.
“I don't know what I'm doing.” The man said, sitting down between you and Bong-hui. His eyes looked round at you and he gave you a small nod.
“This is my friend, y/n.” Bong-hui introduced you.
“I'm Prosecutor Noh, Ji-uk.” He said calmly. He glanced at your face, taking in your smooth skin and the gentle scent of strawberries coming from your hair. He looked back at Bong-hui, his lip turning up a little at her greasy unwashed locks.
“Singing a song of a curse is not how you take revenge on your ex. Just ignore him. Be cool and live a good life.” Ji-uk said.
“Why are you suddenly so nice to me? Did you really fall for me at first sight?” Bong-hui panicked for a moment and Ji-uk’s eyes shot to you.
“I'm sorry. Of course you didn't.” She laughed.
“Run Bong-hui at least wash your face.” Did he almost laugh?
Your friend turns away to wipe her face but you continue to watch the man as he enjoys the fresh air. His eyes closed and face turned up to the sun. This was not good. This is the man she had been telling you about. The one who she'd pegged as a pervert and then propositioned in a restaurant, got drunk and woke up in his house. She still didn't know if they'd slept together or not. Now he was her boss and was making her job extra difficult. There was no way you could like this guy, you wouldn't allow yourself to even admire his beauty.
*********************
“Why are you standing at that window? It's getting cold in here.” Bong-hui laughed at you.
“Let's get snacks. I need a pick-me-up “ she sighed, grabbing her purse and replacing her glasses to her face. You pulled the window closed then followed her giddily out into the street. The weather was warm but a tinge of dampness coated the floors and walls from an earlier rainfall. Neither of you took much notice of the lights flickering off as you laughed and joked down the street. When you arrived at the little convenience store your phone began to ring. Staying outside to answer it separated the two of you.
“Hello?” You said into the device. It was a short conversation with another friend, or rather a friend of your father's. Mr Bahng often called to check in with you as your own parents were long gone. They had been killed in an attack when you were twelve and Mr Bahng had helped get the killer convicted. He had only begun working with the prosecution office a few weeks prior but you had been grateful to him ever since. The call finished as Bong-hui left the store, a bag of snacks cradled in her arms.
“I had to use cash, there's a massive blackout.” She explained, the two of you looked around at the dark buildings. Amused by the silliness of it you walked back to her apartment, almost being knocked over by a cyclist.
Entering the apartment building made your skin prickle; an eerie sensation that you hadn't felt in a long time fell over you like a shroud. A pile of garbage bags had been left in the main entrance so you took them out to the bins. Bong-hui went up to her apartment first. At the bottom of the stairs you were greeted by a neighbour who kept you talking for longer than you'd wanted. The prickling on your skin getting worse with each passing moment. You darted up the stairs as fast as you could and burst through the door.
Then, blood, so much blood. Bong-hui's screams hardly reached your ears as you dropped against the wall and sank to the floor.
********
The man sitting on the other side of the table eyed you cautiously as you fiddled with your fingers. The blood on your shoes was beginning to dry and you watched it in silence.
“How do you know Miss Eun?” He asked.
Your eyes flick up to his and quickly drop again. The urge to look back almost overrode your nerves.
“I, um…since I was ten. I mean our mother's…” words struggled to come out of your panicked mind.
“And how long have you been staying with her?” He asked.
“a few days. I just got back from overseas work.” You answer him. The man is silent which makes you look up at him, a pained expression on his face.
Your brain sparked in seemingly the wrong places as your eyes traced the lines of his face.
“What's happening? Why am I…? Do you think- I couldn't-” you start fumbling over your words again.
“No, I'm satisfied that you're innocent, there is a witness who places you elsewhere at the time of death. You'll be free to go soon.” He explains.
“I, can I ask you a favour?” he nods, “can you contact someone for me? Mr Bahng. He works at the prosecution office.” you ask.
“I know him. He is here” The man leaves and you wait in silence. A female police officer came in and asked to take your clothes for evidence and you changed into a sweater and sweatpants that they provided.
Not even thirty minutes later you were beside Mr Bahng. His sad eyes locked on your tired body.
“See what you can get out of her.” the previous man said quietly.
“Mr Noh, y/n has a lot of trauma surrounding stabbing. I'll see what I can do.” Mr Bahng gave him a short bow and led you out of the police station.
“They think Bong-hui killed him, don't they?” You ask once in the car.
“It's the only solution, all the evidence points to her.” He answered you from the driver's seat.
“Then why not me?”
Mr Bahng sighs, his hand on the steering wheel tightened.
“You have an alibi, the electric turned back on in time to catch you on a camera and your conversation with the neighbour. There was enough time for the murder to happen in that time.”
You knew nothing about how the law worked in these cases, you only knew your friend. It couldn't be true, but then there was enough time. Hadn't she said to you just the day before how she wanted to kill him, was it a joke? Or did she mean it? A new fear bubbled in your gut, perhaps it was an old one.
“No, I don't believe it at all.” You shook your head.
“I'll take you to a hotel close by

One of my favourite scenes from The Law Cafe! I love all the looks LSG gives LSY in this drama. JungHo doesn’t need to say anything - his eyes give it all away. It also reminded me of the rain scene from Suspicious Partner. Ji Chang Wook looks so in love with Nam Ji Hyun in that scene. I found a lot of parallels between Suspicious Partner and The Law Cafe . No wonder I love these dramas the most in the romcom genre :)

My replay button has died after this intense last scene from yesterday’s episode of Law Cafe
I admit I didn’t expect Lee Seung Gi and Lee Se Young to bring this intensity to the scene and I concede that their chemistry is as fire as my favourite couple (of all time )Ji Chang Wook and Nam Ji Hyun had in Suspicious Partner.
youtube
Honestly , there are so many parallels between Suspicious Partner and The Law Cafe that the latter feels like a reboot with an equally awesome couple and am totally here for it.

Suspicious Partner:  My random thoughts
I’ve just completed 3 episodes of Suspicious Partner starring Ji Chang Wook and Nam Ji Hyun and it’s kept my interest so far.  It’s nothing groundbreaking, just your typical spunky heroine meets brooding hero and she falls in love but he’s still not yet there.  But it makes me happy to watch.  It’s the kind of KDrama that I need when all I want is something to make me smile.
I like Nam Ji Hyun here a lot better than in “100 Days My Prince”.  She looked so much older in that drama and I couldn’t wrap my head around her relationship with the Crown Prince played by Do Kyung Soo.  She just seemed so worldly wise and sure of herself while he just looked lost and much too young for the character he was playing.  As lawyer Eun Bong-hui, she seems more in her element and a lot prettier.  Maybe she’s just one of those actresses whose facial features are just too modern and totally unsuitable to sageuks.
This is my first Ji Chang Wook encounter and I must say I love watching him.  He has that face that suits a broody type of character and his Noh Ji-uk is like a modern-day Korean Mr. Darcy.  I think Ji Chang Wook has the kind of look that can swing from drama to light comedy and he’s really easy on the eyes.  To me, he must be one of the best looking Korean actors and I find him more physically appealing than Lee Min Ho.
So far so good for me with this drama.  I just hope it doesn’t disappoint me in the end.  It played in 2017 so the way the story goes is already cast in stone so regardless of how I would feel after it ends, there’s nothing more that can change anyway.
In any case, it’s going to keep me partly occupied until next year when season 2 of “Kingdom” premiers on Netflix.
