Operation: First Noel (6/7)
Here we are at Day 6, @xhookswenchx! This is actually the vignette that I first wrote for you more than a month ago when I initially started spit-balling ideas for your Secret Santa gift, and it’s my personal favorite of the set and kind of the thing around which everything else evolved. If you’ve read any of my other work, you may have noticed know how much I love writing the quiet moments, and that’s exactly what this is. I really hope you enjoy it. I’ll try to have a little something to wrap up this fic for you by tomorrow!
Find it on AO3.  Missed a chapter?  Get caught up here.
Summary:  When the residents of Storybrooke enjoy a rare period of peace over the holiday season, Henry asks his family for something he’s never had - a real Christmas. A series of holiday vignettes. (Captain Swan/Captain Cobra/Captain Charming.  Canon Divergent.  Domestic Fluff, Humor, & Smut.   Rated E purely for Chapter 4.)
Requested tags: @optomisticgirl, @deathbycaptainswan.  Want to be tagged on updates?  Let me know!
Chapter 6: Tidings of Great Joy
The call of her bladder rouses Emma from a deep slumber, and she pries her eyes open with mild irritation, staring forward into the dark of the bedroom and heaving a mental sigh.  Again? She pushes back the covers with one arm and pauses when she realizes that she’s alone in bed.  Sitting up, she swivels her head to throw a quizzical look back at Killian’s undisturbed pillow before pushing herself to her feet.  Toilet first.
The floor is cold against her skin, first the cool wood of the bedroom, then the frigid tile in the bathroom, but she bears it as she shuffles along, too sleepy to bother with socks.  Emma huffs and pats her belly.  Five more months of this (and much more) to go.  She sighs, but reminds herself that she’s survived a pregnancy before under far less favorable circumstances.  For that matter, she’s literally been to Hell and back.  She’s got this.
When she finishes in the bathroom, she throws a robe over her flannel pajamas and pads downstairs. She’d retired shortly after getting home from Christmas dinner at her parents’ and left Killian by the fire reading Charles Dickens (part of what Henry refers to as his Christmas Crash Course). But that was several hours ago, and Killian has usually come to bed by this time of night.  She wonders if he’s fallen asleep mid-sentence on the sofa again.
The ground floor of their house is illuminated by the flicker of the fire that still burns in the hearth and by the almost overwhelming glow of the legion of white Christmas lights Killian and Henry have succeeded in draping on every square inch of the handsome tree near the front window.
“Guys, I’m serious.  If you put any more lights on that thing, astronauts will be able to see it from space.”
“Sorry, love, who will be able to see it from where?”
“…Zeus.  Zeus will be able to see it from Olympus.”
“I’m fairly certain Zeus can see everything anyway, Swan.”
The stair creaks beneath her feet, and when she reaches the bottom and turns the corner, she sees Killian still sitting on the sofa where she left him, but his head and shoulders are craned around to look at her.
“Couldn’t sleep?” he asks, looking concerned.
She gives a little smile. “I was going to ask you the same thing,” she murmurs, coming around the side of the sofa to settle herself next to him. She perches her feet on the edge of the coffee table.  “I had to go the bathroom.”
“Ah.”  He nods knowingly, a tiny grin tugging at the corner of his mouth. His smile widens further as Emma sighs blissfully and wiggles her toes a little, enjoying the way the warmth of the fire licks at them.  “Are your feet cold, love?”
“Better now,” she says, shifting down in her seat and moving to lean up against him.
“Hold that thought,” he tells her, gently pulling away and heaving himself off the sofa.  Emma’s eyebrows pinch upward as he hurries up the stairs. A minute later he returns with a pair of her favorite gray woolen socks in his hand.
Her expression turns dopey as he sits on the edge of the sofa cushion and drops one sock on his lap, reaching forward with the other.  Part of her wants to sit up and insist she can put on her own socks (she’s not exactly big yet), but she remains rooted in place, fascinated and touched as she watches him work.  He loops the cuff of the sock around her big toe and gently pulls so that the cuff opens up wide enough to allow him to finesse it over the rest of her toes and onto her foot.  He hums tunelessly as he works, and she grins.  She’s seen him put his own socks on like this countless times, but seeing him do it for her, knowing how content he is to pamper her in little ways like this, makes her heart feel fit to burst.  He tugs here and there at the tight knit until the sock is in place and then proceeds to help her with its mate.  “There we are,” he declares with satisfaction, sitting back and throwing his left arm around her shoulders.
Killian Jones, the fearsome Captain Hook, vanquisher of sea monsters and Underworld denizens and cold toes.  “Thank you.”  She chuckles and burrows deep into his side, resting her head on his shoulder.
He turns his head, inhaling the scent of her hair, and plants a kiss on her head.  “Of course.”
Emma’s eyes are half-lidded and dreamy as she stares into the dancing flames.  “So why are you still awake?  Staying up for Santa?” she teases.
She can hear the smile in his voice.  “Do you suppose I should?  He’s set to invade our home, after all,” Killian muses.  “Perhaps I should fetch my cutlass.  Inspire him to use the front door like a normal person.”
Laughter bubbles up in her chest at the idea of coming downstairs in the morning to find Killian has captured Santa Claus.  The mental image of her husband grimly standing guard with his sword while the man in the red suit sits properly bound and gagged in an armchair is almost too much.  “Pretty sure that gets you on the naughty list,” she comments when she catches her breath.
Killian waggles his eyebrows.  “So does what we did to get you pregnant, Swan,” he murmurs into her ear.  “I don’t recall you complaining.”
She can feel him smile against her as she flushes to the roots of her hair, a myriad of vivid memories flooding back and setting her skin tingling.  She swats his arm half-heartedly but doesn’t try to hide her exhilarated smile.  He rumbles low in his chest, and she turns her head to indulge him in a slow, sultry kiss. “Well, it was pretty fun,” she mutters against his mouth, her teeth dragging across his lower lip, her lashes dusky against her cheeks.
He pulls back and arches an eyebrow.  “‘Pretty fun’?” he repeats with mock indignance.  “May I remind you that you seriously started considering using silencing magic after that time we—”
She gives a throaty giggle and cuts him off by yanking his shirt collar forward until his lips are pressed against hers.  Her tongue grazes his in invitation, and Killian answers without hesitation, plunging forth and kissing her hot and deep in the way they both know disorients her and makes her toes curl inside her socks.  His lips slant over hers aggressively, and he steals her breath, reaching up to cup her face with his hand and drag his thumb across her cheek, hunger and defiance and unending devotion in the way he kisses.  A tiny mewl escapes her, and shivers run down her spine when he responds with a gratified hum, clearly pleased at having successfully reminded her of all the ways he has to make her want.
“Fine,” she acquiesces breathlessly when they surface for air.  “Um…  Miraculous? Phenomenal?”
Killian grunts.  “That’s more like it.”
Emma laughs quietly at the smug grin on his face and snuggles up against him once again.  Her eyes fall to her stomach suddenly, and she smirks.  “Oops. We might have woken someone up.”
“Oh?”  His face lights eagerly.  “You can feel her?”
Emma bites her lip at her little slip-up.  Their baby started kicking only a few days ago, but she’d been hoping to reveal it to him Christmas morning as an extra gift.  One look at his excited expression now, though, and all thoughts of waiting any longer are easily forgotten.  She nods almost shyly and reaches for his hand, settling it on her belly and watching his face expectantly.  They wait for a long moment, all but holding their breath, until the baby abruptly kicks again.
An awed smile blooms on Killian’s face, and he glances up at her with wonder.  “There.  That’s… that’s her?”
Emma folds her lips, blinking rapidly and nodding.
He looks back down at her belly and chuckles low when the baby issues another kick.  “Hello, my love,” he croons, his voice sounding thick. “Did your mum and I wake you?”
They lapse into contented quiet while Killian continues to feel the baby move, slowly gliding his hand back and forth over Emma’s midsection in a loving caress.  It makes her want to cry sometimes when he’s like this – so exquisitely, almost impossibly gentle – the man who was so angry for so long, who was one of the most feared pirates to ride the waves, who nearly destroyed all the Dark Ones forever, and who withstood torture at the hands of a god and still thumbed his nose at him.  The fact that he can be so bold and unbreakable one moment and so soft and affectionate and heart-breakingly grateful the next – the range of this man, the depth of him, just takes her breath away.
“I was thinking about you, you know.”  His quiet confession breaks the silence.  “Just now before you and your mum came down.  Did you know?  It’s Christmas.”  A delicate smile curves his lips, and he glances up at the narrow mantle from which hang three full-sized stockings labeled “Killian”, “Emma”, and “Henry” and a much smaller knitted stocking shaped like a baby bootie, courtesy of Granny. “It’s my first Christmas,” he continues thoughtfully, “which is fitting, because your mum and Henry tell me part of celebrating Christmas is spending time with your family, and this…” he intertwines his fingers with Emma’s, grinning softly at the now-familiar click of his ring against hers, “this is the first winter in a very, very long time that I can really say that I have one.”
Emma sniffles, and he catches her eye and gives her a watery smile.
“I’ve also read that that this holiday celebrates the birth of a child,” he says, his voice turning even heavier with emotion, “a baby that, I gather, gave a lot of the world hope, and that…”  he pauses, “that seems fitting too.”
A giant tear rolls down Emma’s face, and she’s a hair’s width from blubbering as she takes in the redness lining his eyes and the tender, emotional look his face.  He knows she’s full of hormones right now, and yet here he is, saying these perfect words to their unborn child on Christmas Eve, and if she didn’t love him with every fiber of her being she’d punch him so hard right now for making her cry.  Jerk.
Killian stops talking, as though he knows she’s barely keeping it together (or perhaps because he is too).  He drags his ringed thumb back and forth along the side of her pinky absently, falling back into unspoken thoughts, his gaze fixed on their hands while the firelight frolics with the shadows around them.
They both smile when they feel another kick, and Emma nuzzles his neck with her forehead.  “We love you, you know,” she whispers to him.
He takes a ragged breath. “Aye, I know.”
Emma squeezes his hand. “Come to bed?”
He turns his head and places another kiss in her hair.  “As you wish.”
He climbs to his feet slowly, adjusting his grip on her hand to help her up, and they remain linked as she leads him out of the living room and back up the stairs, extinguishing the fire with the flick of her wrist.
She settles herself back between the bedsheets, leaving the socks on, while he quickly readies himself for sleep.  Minutes later, he switches off the lights and slides beneath the thick blanket, scooting over the mattress toward her, his stump gliding across her hip to rest on the swell of her stomach and his chest pressing to her shoulder blades.  Emma sighs happily as he touches his lips to the back of her neck.
“Good night, my loves,” he mutters into her skin.
Emma smiles in the dark, her hand finding his stump and squeezing it affectionately. “Merry Christmas, Killian.”

Featured Store: Resident Music | Proper Music Group
Owned by Derry Watkins and Natasha Youngs, Resident Music is one of the world’s best record shops. It was winner of England’s Favourite Independent Record Shop in a poll organised for Record Store Day. It’s a far cry from the day before they opened, when Natasha, perched halfway up a ladder painting the shop, heard a man shouting at her “This is the last thing Brighton needs, another record shop. I guarantee you will be closed in six months.”
Derry, who was born in Horsham, West Sussex, has spent his life working in music. And up until the birth of his son, he was also an avid gig goer, seeing up to four bands a week. The first gig he attended was Motorhead, who made a huge impression on him – and his ears, which were ringing for days. The gigs he attended afterwards all seemed incredibly quiet. He has never forgotten the UK Subs gig he attended as a teenager in Crawley. In those days, it was not unusual for fights to break out at venues, but this gig was different. After a fracas started, the band jumped into the crowd to join in. The fight turned into a mass brawl and as he looked around, Derry seemed to be the only person in the room not fighting.
Derry only ever wanted to work in a record shop, and his first job was at Our Price in London’s Tottenham Court Road. The Our Price chain was later bought out by WH Smith, so Derry took the opportunity to move to the Virgin Megastore. The laid-back atmosphere at Virgin was a bit of a shock compared to the corporate Our Price. His job title was Roots Buyer and his training consisted of the manager showing him the Roots section and saying “Here you go, fill it up.” Derry made an instant impression, increasing sales rapidly as he brought in the professional stock control methods he had used at Our Price. His efforts did not go unnoticed, and he was soon promoted to work in the Virgin Head Office as a Chart Manager, responsible for key releases. It was through his work here that he rubbed shoulders with the aristocracy of rock, leaving him with lots of great memories, including talking to Robert Plant about football for hours in a hotel bar in Istanbul (they had a common bond as they both supported underachieving teams, Wolves for Robert and Leyton Orient for Derry). Earlier in the day he had witnessed Jimmy Page bartering over the price of a fake Rolex on the street outside (apparently it was a great bargain, although I am sure Jimmy had enough loose change to buy an original).
The most memorable in-store event at Virgin was Oasis playing a midnight gig to launch their second album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory, at which Noel goaded Liam into walking out so that he (Noel) could play the solo show he had wanted to do in the first place. Although he enjoyed working for Virgin, Derry felt they were losing direction. He found it frustrating that music no longer seemed important to the company, which was concentrating its efforts on other aspects of the business such as airlines and phones. Following a restructuring of the company, Derry worked on the V-phone project which turned Virgin record shops into mobile phone stores. While working on this project he met Natasha, who had worked her way up the company. The duo shared a vision of opening their own, great record shop as opposed to changing other people’s into phone shops. Soon they were an item and Derry moved to Brighton to live with her.
Accepting the offer of voluntary redundancies from Virgin, Derry and Natasha took off to tour the world for six months. Evenings were spent in exotic locations sharing bottles of wine as they planned to open their record shop.
Resident Music opened in 2004. Initially the shop only sold CDs but they quickly responded to customer requests for releases on vinyl, putting in a vinyl rack which now accounts for a major percentage of the shop’s turnover. There is a low counter, so the staff don’t appear intimidating. This is a great feature. So many record shops of the past had high counters that separated the staff from the customers. I recall shops that looked like a coconut shy where you could only see the heads of the staff above the counter, which certainly created a barrier.
Resident have incorporated many appealing design elements. The shop is neat, clean and browser friendly. The racks are full but not overcrowded, with reviews added to the covers of all new releases. The shop has also worked hard to capture the attention of the student population. Each year they give away fresher’s packs consisting of posters, samplers, badges and a welcome letter providing useful information about the city. Resident embraces social networking and makes regular use of Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, including a daily Album of the Day feature. The shop sells tickets for more than 250 local events, a great way of getting people into the store. Resident also has a weekly mailout to more than 15,000 customers. The Resident team are happy to offer musical guidance to anybody looking to discover new music. They even guarantee cheery smiles.
The XX, Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons have all played in-stores at Resident Music to help promote their debut albums. The most memorable day was when Jarvis Cocker, a champion of independent record shops, worked behind the counter at the time his Further Complications album was released. He was supposed to stay for an hour but had such a great time that he stayed for more than four hours, serving and chatting to more than 200 customers.
I have a lot of admiration for what Derry, Natasha and the team at Resident Music have achieved. They opened the shop at a time when more than 100 independent record shops a year where closing. The golden days of music retailing were over, the free stock had stopped arriving and record companies had switched their promotional support to supermarkets and online retailers. People thought they were mad to open a new shop at such a time. But Derry and Natasha have proved that if your model is correct, if you are prepared to work hard, if you are innovative, if you support local music and the community and if you offer great customer service, then you can succeed.
Resident Music’s achievements have been recognised by the music industry. The shop has won the title Best Independent Record Shop in the UK three times (2011, 2014 and 2015). It was also voted Best Indie Shop In The Country both times that Record Store Day organisers ran a public poll. In the lead-up to RSD in 2016, BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne broadcast live from the shop and included a DJ set by local musician and record shop supporter Norman Cook.
Derry and Natasha can be proud of their achievement, proving all the doubters wrong and thoroughly deserving the awards the shop has received.
I asked Natasha whichforthcoming records distributed by Proper she was looking forward to.
TV/AM – ‘No Silver Bird / Narcissus (Tunng Remix)’ – RSD19 release (Psychic Data)
Last year Joe Oxley finally released his debut album, ‘Psychic Data’ – an electro-psych-goth-industrial-drone-shoegaze masterpiece that made No7 in our albums of the year. For Record Store Day 2019, he’s releasing an exclusive 7” featuring a cover version of a 1968 rare psych curio by an obscure Mexican band – a track that Joe is a big fan of & that he’s been playing in his live sets. It’s not had a physical release anywhere before so we’re looking forward to this. It’s backed with a remix from an all time Resident favourite band – Tunng who bring their psych-folk-tronica magic to the now classic TVAM track, ‘Narcissus’. 500 only on yellow vinyl – we’re expecting this one to do well for us.
SHE KEEPS BEES – ‘Kinship’ – released 10th May (BB Island)
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the New York duo but it’s clear from the very first listen that they’ve lost nothing of their magical power in the time they’ve been away. ‘Kinship’ is another engrossing dose of raw beauty – intense and spirited (like PJ Harvey or Nadine Shah) yet spacious and haunting (like Jesca Hoop or Julie Byrne). It’s a real treat.
I asked Natasha about what is Resident up to on Record Store Day this year?
“Like most indies, we’re super busy gearing up for Record Store Day. There’s a huge amount of work that goes into making the day a success: stock ordering, booking the bands, hooking up with local traders, prepping all the information for customers, organising all the stock, talking to the press – it’s a logistical challenge for an independent shop but it’s great fun and we learn more each year to hopefully deliver a better event each year. Yet again, we’ve put together a packed day of entertainment to supplement the record buying frenzy.
We are starting the day with The Leisure Society at 8am and then later in the day, once the queue madness has died down, we have DJ sets from Blood Red Shoes and Wrongtom. Then we have live sets from Our Girl and David Gedge of The Wedding Present with the traditional Resident raffle wedged in between the bands. Can’t wait”

So Monday I posted about my own bullying experiences and mentioned DEAR BULLY, an anthology that I co-edited. That book happened because Megan Kelley Hall and I felt so powerless after hearing the stories of two girls. One was Phoebe Prince. Phoebe killed herself after being bullied over and over again. The other girl was a kindergarten student, Jasmin Lovin, who survived her bullying, but was having a horrible time with nightmares and fear.
Dear Bully
But the book was about more than just those two girls. Bullying is bigger than that and any identity factor or trait (real or perceived) can be used as a reason to deride and torment others.
I felt so powerless to help these kids all over our country. So as an author, I did the only thing I could think of doing; I asked for stories from other authors, so kids who had the opportunity to read the book could realize that they weren’t alone.
They weren’t. They aren’t.
As I told the International Literacy Worldwide Association during an interview, “It (a person’s bullying story) was about kids who were bullied about their sexual orientation, their size, their parents; kids were bullied about anything.”
The hope was that if we all shared how we had been bullied, kids could find hope in our survival, hope in the fact that some super cool authors like Z Brewer or Alyson Noel or R. L. Stine had survived and that they could too.
I was absolutely blown away by everyone’s support and everyone’s stories. And it made me incredibly sad that so many of you have bullying stories and that so many of you are still affected by bullying or are being affected right now.
I keep saying it breaks my heart but honestly my heart is shattering over and over again every time I hear a new story.
But I’m also really happy and proud of everyone for sharing and wanting to help and wanting to make change. You are awesome.
And now I’m going to tell some bullying stories from one person’s life. It’s not about me. It’s about my daughter, Em of Awesome, and she’s given me permission, I swear. Em would never categorize herself as either a bullied kid or a hero. I think that’s important somehow.
  Little hiker buddy
A love of sweaters runs deep in this family
BULLYING STORY 1
So, when Em was four she went to a Waldorf nursery school. I took her there so she could know how to hang with other kids and also because I love the whole Waldorf philosophy which is, “the human being is fundamentally a spiritual being and that all human beings deserve respect as the embodiment of their spiritual nature.”
So, Em had gone there for about a month when I came to pick her up. Her little cotton dress was all ripped and her face was splotched because she’d been crying. The teachers were all consoling and talking to another little girl, Hannah.
Em launched herself into my arms and I said, “What happened, baby?” because that is what mommies ask.
And she said, “Hannah threw me down and told me she was a lion and was going to eat me up and she ripped my dress and wouldn’t let me up.”
And I hugged her and asked her what the teachers did and she said, “They are talking to Hannah.”
And I said, “Did they talk to you?”
And she said, “No.”
So, I went and talked to the teachers (who are all lovely by the way) and I asked them what happened and they said the same thing as Em. And then they told me that Hannah had been jealous of Em who was somehow really good at sewing and reading (and basically everything – such is the curse of being Em) so Hannah was acting out her rage.
And I asked if Hannah was told that it wasn’t cool to rip another girl’s dress, threaten to kill her, and tackle her. And they told me that they hadn’t because Hannah was merely expressing herself. This was the escalation of her being angry and jealous for awhile.
And then I asked if anyone had comforted Em.
And they said, “No. We were focusing on Hannah.”
This is when I took Em out of the school forever because I honestly thought the spiritual growth and support of the bullied, beaten-up kid was just as important as the spiritual growth and worth of the kid who bullied.
And also because I often have no chill.
Em of Awesome
Life Lesson here:
If you feel your kid is in a situation that isn’t healthy for them and you have the means to take them out of that situation? Take them out.
Random note: This same girl who lion attacked Em laughed at me for telling  over a decade later for telling her I needed more information before signing a petition about an issue in our town.
The Emster in snow
Bullying Story #2
Em has been bullied again, but never to a horrible extreme, and she’s lucky. And she’s also turned into one of those kids/young adults who stands up for other people who are being bullied.
One time a boy in third grade was tormenting a girl in the lunch line because of her eye shape. The girl was Aleutian. Em (who has always had wicked verbal skills) went up one side of him and down the other and announced to everyone, “M- has the most beautiful eyes ever.”
M said, “You think so?”
Em said, “Um… yeah. You are so pretty, especially your eyes.”
And the girl told Em that the boy had been bullying her about her looks for forever. Em was the first one who heard and said something.
Life Lesson Here:
Standing up for others in the moment when they can’t manage it themselves, is okay. Another lesson, if you love someone. If you think the are beautiful, let them know.
Graduation
Bullying Story #3
Another time Em battled an Ed Tech who told one of her friends during PE that she threw the ball “like she was r-word.”
(Sorry. I hate that word. I couldn’t write it.)
Yes, the Ed Tech said the actual word.
Yes, the Ed Tech worked with what the school district labels as ‘special needs’ kids.
Yes, the Ed Tech saw nothing wrong with what she said.
Yes, Em’s friend cried and cried about it. She had issues with reading back then. The Ed Tech knew that. She bullied her right into a sobbing mess on the gym floor.
Life Lesson Here:
Bullies can be grown-ups. We’ve all learned that, right? We just call them trolls when they are on social media.
Dog kissing helps
Bullying Story #4
We were at a big conference in LA full of children’s book writers and the key note speaker was hanging out talking by the pool. Em waited her turn and told him how much she loved his books. She was pretty small so he looked kind of shocked that she had read them. Anyways, he was super nice and they were talking when three women who wanted to be children’s writers came over and shoved her out of the way to talk to him.
Seriously, they just pushed her.
Keynote Author Man got this shocked/stunned looked and asked if Em was okay.
The ladies? Didn’t even blink.
Em wasn’t a person to them, and I think a lot of the time that’s what happens. Bullies forget that they are bullying people with feelings and coolness and quirks and emotions. Or maybe they don’t forget? Maybe they just don’t care.
Life Lesson Here:
Rudeness can happen in places where you least expect it. Adults ignoring, berating, tormenting, discounting kids? That’s something that makes an impact. Yes, those ladies were just rude once, so it’s not technically ‘bullying,’ but having the gatekeepers, the movers, the shakers, the people in positions of power and authority ignore you over and over again? That makes an impact.
She is embarrassed about this shirt. I am embarrassed about my hat.
Em was a quiet kid, but she was fierce, and she was so lucky that she has had the opportunity to be so  fierce and strong and what kills me is that so many of us don’t. So many of us don’t have the tools to keep dealing with bullies over and over again. So many of us don’t know that other people have had to deal with it, too. So many of us don’t realize that we aren’t alone, that we aren’t the only one with our dress ripped, or called names, or physically attacked or pushed aside by women who want to write stories for us, but more than that, they want to talk to the semi-famous man.
Dogs make you stronger
That’s why we all have to do whatever small thing we can. That might be standing up like Em; it might be joining a Facebook page; it might be telling our stories; it might just be giving someone a hug. It might be changing ourselves so that when someone calls us out on bad behavior we don’t get defensive and stubborn but we actually listen and care about their feelings more than our own just for a moment at least.
I know. I know… It seems so little. But it’s something.
Em as Black Widow for Halloween
WHAT I’VE TRIED TO DO
So, I can’t save anyone, really. All I can do is listen, give out smelly stickers, and share my own stories. Sometimes those stories are super fun and inspiring, like the NEED series or TIME STOPPERS or THE SPY WHO PLAYED BASEBALL.
Sometimes those stories? They are full of pain.
I’ve recently contributed to the anthology THINGS WE HAVEN’T SAID and Megan Kelley Hall and I co-edited another anthology, DEAR BULLY, which was an effort of writers, readers, bloggers and people to raise awareness about bullying. The money we raise from Dear Bully’s royalties continues each year to support programs meant to raise awareness about bulling and support those who have suffered. I am so grateful for that opportunity.
But it doesn’t feel like enough, you know? Nothing ever feels like enough.
DO GOOD WEDNESDAY
Do Good Wednesday!
