When he lays his head on Mickey's chest next to their hearth and engulfed in scent he is at peace. the strokes of his name plant deep roots and tucked behind safely is his heartbeat.

bump! bump! bump!

he is not simply freed from fear it still comes in crashing waves but someone now holds him at the peak with unconditional devotion.

he is not as scared of death and will welcome it if he lies with his other half as they're covered in the most primitive sense of the Earth he is content.

Ian feels it in his bones.

Thank you for this week's @galladrabbles prompt, @heymacy!

Previously on No Sleep 'Til Nashville ... Mickey took over as narrator after a long and emotional night.

It’s seven AM. I’m camped outside Hank’s Body Shop drinking coffee-colored swill.

Ian’s beside me, giving me bedroom eyes, running his fingers up my arm. He’s tempting as fuck.

Hank unlocks the door and lets us in. “Knew you’d be waitin���.”

I spot Ian’s car, nod toward it. “What’s the damage?”

“Her bones are good, but you’re looking at four grand in parts and labor. I have an opening on October first.”

“October? That’s six weeks from now.”

Hank shrugs. “You can tow her somewhere else. No skin off my teeth.”

Ian eyes darken, and not in a sexy way.

"You mean you didn't notice the fucking wedding ring on his finger?"

Ian flares his nostrils, looming over the stranger who pinched Mickey's ass a moment ago.

Mickey strains his brain looking for ways to appease the jealous Red. He needs to throw this Irish Wolfhound a bone. Preferably one with a lot of juicy fillet on it if he doesn't want it to end with someone's broken jaw.

"Easy, baby."

Standing between Ian and the stranger, Mickey presses her ass against his furious husband's groin. Ian's hands instantly interlock on Mickey's stomach.

"Run, motherfucker," Mickey whispers to the jerk.

What drives you in your work, and what do you hope people learn?

The world is full of pretty pictures and digital photography has made incredible photography possible by so many of us now. But I feel that, especially given the state of the world and the environment, what’s needed more than just a pretty picture is a sense of advocacy and a real sense of conservation and compassion.

I’m very much drawn to the accuracy and honesty in the depiction of an animal and really showing the challenges to that animal’s life or interesting behavior that we haven’t seen much in pictures before.

I’ll do quite a bit of research before I share a photo or before I talk about a particular issue because I’m often seeking to educate with my photos about a particular challenge that a species is facing or ways that we can better support local wildlife.

For example, I work with a wildlife hospital and sometimes I go in to capture human-caused disturbances to local wildlife. So, let’s say a great blue heron comes in that’s been entangled in fishing line. I’ll photograph it when it comes in and then I’ll photograph it later while it’s being treated and rehabilitated. And then I’ll photograph the eventual release.

So I tell that complete story and then I use that story in a number of ways to try to educate people and give them information about how we can avoid things like this in our community.
