This is why Henry James wrote The Beast in the Jungle
"He had justified his fear and achieved his fate; he had failed, with the last exactitude, of all he was to fail of; and a moan now rose to his lips as he remembered she had prayed he mightn’t know. This horror of waking—this was knowledge, knowledge under the breath of which the very tears in his eyes seemed to freeze. Through them, none the less, he tried to fix it and hold it; he kept it there before him so that he might feel the pain. That at least, belated and bitter, had something of the taste of life."
James, Henry. The Beast in the Jungle (p. 35). Kindle Edition.
not people thinking they can escape heartache. avoiding it at all cost is itself a form of it

20 Questions for Fanfiction Writers
tagged by: @andtherewerefireworks. THANK YOU. <3 <3 <3
1) How many works do you have on AO3?
206, apparently. O.o I didn't realize it was that much. Whoops. >.>;;;;;; ...when did I end up with 55 fics in the MCU. I knew I had a lot in JTV, but when did I end up with that many in the MCU
2) What's your total AO3 word count?
2,039,621.
3) What fandoms do you write for?
Uh...currently? ...uh...let me check my pinned post. Uh. Danganronpa (not DRV3 because I haven't finished it yet; specifically Junko etc. I like rewrites and consequences more than...crossovers...right now. I would rather play with canon...ish). MCU (specifically Wanda-related etc. re: Wandavision and DSMOM, but also add the Ancient One and also add Viv Vision because I love her). JTV (because yes, I can be persuaded to write more Roisa stuff). Miscellaneous Kathryn Hahn etc. (frequently referred to as Hahnverse, specifically beyond Agatha I will also write Eve Fletcher and Claire Debella). Who Framed Roger Rabbit (because yes, I can also be persuaded to occasionally write more Jessica Rabbit stuff, although it is often highly specific to my Jess). Puella Magi Madoka Magica (just because I haven't in a very long time does not mean I can't). Noir (the 2001 anime; just because I have very little posted doesn't mean I won't write for this). The Haunting of Bly Manor (specifically Dani and Viola and we pretend that most of the last episode didn't happen because I love Viola and I like looking at the complications of that whole situation). ...probably others that I can't think about at the moment, honestly.
4) Top Five Fics by Kudos:
By kudos? 1) What Dreams May Come. 2) Finding Family. 3) Lost Causes. 4) Make Life Worthwhile. 5) Take A Sad Song and Make It Better. Surprised by that last one, honestly, but not by the other four. The top two on my stats are pretty much always Bly Manor Fix-It Fic and FF; they just switch places every now and again.
5) Do you respond to comments?
Sometimes. I respond to comments if I feel I have a response or if I want to continue the dialogue or if I'm asked a question and don't put it off for a while (I'm really bad at this, actually). But I feel like a lot of comments...don't need...a response? And have been running into the weird situation lately where responding to comments...feels like...it keeps people from commenting? Which is? A weird feeling?
6) What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Timeline canon doesn't count (I see you out there reading this) because that's not fic, that's rp. And, I mean, technically that had a happy ending. Technically. the day her line went flat. hands down. i've got some other angsty stuff that comes to mind, but like. nothing like that one, i don't think. ...but if I ever finish it all happens so quick, that may take it.
7) What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
...uh. Hm. I think probably Finding Family, because it was nearly 375k of build up (385k if you include the Holiday Special) and character development and relational development just to get to that ending so that it felt well earned and deserved and still not expected even though set up and just. I knew the ending of that one when I started it, and it was exactly what I wanted it to be, and I think it's the most happy because it's the most right and complete and just.... I don't know how to put words to it, but that one.
8) Do you get hate on fics?
I've gotten bot hate on my MCU fics by bots who want me to switch to a different fic website, which I don't think really counts. I haven't gotten hate as comments on AO3 fic, BUT I DID have a period early last year and some the year before of A LOT of Anon hate, some of which was fic hate. Specifically character interpretation. But that felt more like a campaign of hate against me and that was just the avenue they were deciding to use at that particular time because there was so much other hate they were sending, so like. ...yeah, that was a thing.
9) Do you write smut?
Nope.
10) Craziest crossover?
Heart in Motion aka the JTV/ODAAT crossover that no one asked for and then everyone asked for and then I never went back to. XD
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of!
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! Partly! Someone started translating Finding Family into Russian! With permission! You can find it here!
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! Room for One I co-wrote with @butimnotasexyrussian! IT WAS GREAT.
14) All time favorite ship?
Honestly, I don't think I have one. I love Jess/Scully and Jess/Regina. I love the Valentines. But my shipping favs are flexible at best.
15) What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
What Dreams May Come. I don't think I left it in a good spot, as opposed to If You Lived Here, You'd Be Home Now, which is unfinished and will probably stay unfinished but at least stops at a good spot.
16) What are your writing strengths?
Consistency. I'm very consistent in terms of world-building and maintaining exact specifics through a fic. I keep my through threads, usually, and if I set something up, it's probably going to pay off later.
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
EVERYTHING IS ALWAYS SO LONG. WHAT IS WRITING SHORT STUFF, I DON'T KNOW HER. But also plot. And description. And setting. I suck at all of these things. Oh, also, having characters have distinct voices. All of my characters sound the same. -shrugs-
18) Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I don't have a problem with it, but I very rarely do it. I'm worried I'll get something wrong!
19) First fandom you wrote in?
Tales of Symphonia. I was in, like, middle school, and I did not post it. Fortunately. (This does not count RP, which I was doing earlier than that. That's not the same. And to be honest, I'm not sure I would know the answer then. Teen Titans or Inu-Yasha, maybe? I'm not sure.)
20) Favorite fic you've written?
It's a toss up between Luisa and the Fox and Surrogate. Probably there's something else I'm forgetting but will remember after I post this. But honestly? It's probably one of those two.

I'm always happy to give recommendations when I can, so feel free to ask more questions / messages and such if you want!! I haven't read it but I've heard Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (the book!!) is really good- and the series based on it and The Haunting of Bly Manor are pretty good as well!! I'd rec Stephen King but /: idk he skeeves me out even if he's allegedly a horror icon HDJDHDJ
Thank you! I started the show the Haunting of Hill House when it first came out but didn't make it past the first episode because I'm a chicken XD. Wonder if that would change now that I've had a few years to...still be as easily scared as I was.
I've felt the same way with King more or less. It's sad because I know he's an icon in the horror genre, but I find his stories not very scary. Might just not be my type of horror, what he writes.

omg wait have you watched midnight mass? I can't decide whether to watch it bc I loved hill house and bly manor (as you know lol) but the trailer for midnight mass just didn't grab me!
yes, i've watched midnight mass!!! if you want my honest opinion, i think i like hill house and bly manor a bit better--because even though midnight mass has fewer episodes, i feel like that show is very much more a slowburn than the haunting anthology? and it's a pretty different feel overall (small town, something so much wearier bc of those vibes) . . . but true to the rest of the mike flanagan 'verse, i still cried quite a bit. (i actually finished the show at midnight with my friend, and we both cried like 5 minutes into the final episode . . . and then sat in the dark for a good long while until our other friend came into the room and jumped because " . . . what the heck are you two doing?")
so anyways--yes, i recommend it! it's a bit slower, and there are longer monologues in this show (and mayhaps unpopular opinion, but some of them are just a tad too winding for me, although i can appreciate them from a writing perspective . . . i feel like i would just rather have read the monologue rather than seen it on screen idk), but the themes are absolutely lovely, and there was just something so . . . striking about his ongoing idea of love and sin and faith and whOoOoO boy, i needed to sit down for a while after that.
#answered#kase(y) of you#also man i kept getting chills bc some of the sermons in this show were so well-delivered that i kept thinking about how#i could have sworn to god i've heard the same exact sermon in my home church lmao#also i think this is one of the few shows that really gets at the heart of religion specifically catholic/christian religion#without either shaming or glorifying it which is SUCH a hard balance to strike but this show GETS IT

FLUFFVEMBER DAY 10: INOSUKE HASHIBIRA
prompt: netflix binge (prompts are by @jojosmilktea)
word count: 1,329 words | themes: gen!reader. inosuke being tough. horror movies but not graphical anyway.
tags: @kacchanori @chickynn @todominica @sparkleswritings @brinthie @patricia-ceballos @giyuus-wife @bitchtrynafck @astrxrism @animatedarchives @deephasoceanmagic @strawberrysalwa (send a dm or ask to be added!)
rv: i just finished the haunting of bly manor by the time i was writing this so yeah it’s what i wrote here but there’s no sort of spoilers anyway.
✒︎ it’s not a competition
it's a thing for you and the rest of the "kamaboko squad" to always have a gathering at least once or twice a week to watch movies in netflix for one night. it's either going to be at your or tanjiro's house but usually, it's gonna be on the siblings' abode.
however tonight, it's just you and inosuke in your flat. apparently, nezuko is sick and tanjiro is taking care of his sister. and of course when zenitsu has heard of it, he wanted to go to the siblings' home, to which lead to the situation that you are in now. coincidentally, inosuke was looking forward to the weekly netflix binge since you were scheduled to watch the haunting of bly manor that day. inosuke is a huge fan of thriller, horror and crime movies or series, of course he’d be looking forward to such.
as for you, you're not that much afraid of horror stories but you could say that you hate jump scares the most, that's for sure. so yes, inosuke's company could help you, you just hope he wouldn't notice it and tease you to the ends of the earth.
"so what are we gonna watch, (y/n)? it's horror, right? you're not backing down are 'ya?"
you scoffed, "of course not, are you?"
inosuke laughs sarcastically, holding his chest up high. "why should i be?! it's you who's gonna be scared tonight!"
a pout appears on your face as you pressed the play button on the remote control, eventually having the first episode load on the screen. you settled comfortably next to inosuke, instantly feeling the warmth that radiates from his body even if you were only seated beside him, merely inches away. you've never sat beside him before actually, considering that you were much closer to nezuko compared to the other three. inosuke is probably the least closest to you than zenitsu and tanjiro, so this night will probably out of your comfort zone.
still, it is a good sign for the both of you. at least now, you won't get to play favorites. and you're quite sure inosuke's not that much of a difficult person to get close with—you think.
"why are their faces turning like that it looks so weird." inosuke complains the minute the opening started showing on the screen, the array of characters and specific casts in the beginning of the episode. you couldn't help but let out a short chuckle from your chest, unconsciously snuggling further next to inosuke as you brought your legs up to the couch, reaching under the comforts of the blanket that you laid on top of you two—to which he surprisingly agreed on.
inosuke noticed your movements though. the boy flinches on his seat and turns his head to look at you with eyes wide, yet you had yours glued to the television screen, too focused on what was happening in the scene without any clue that inosuke has his attention solely to you.
above everyone, you were the only one who he cannot read at all. to have you and only you here sitting beside him is something that came out of a clear blue sky. it's not that he didn't want to interact with you, he just has no idea how and it frustrates him how much he doesn't know what to say to you most of the time. of course, it’s not like he’ll ever admit to that out loud.
unable to identify why his face was burning up, he automatically looked away, also in fear that you may notice him looking your way and misunderstand it. his gaze may be directed on the screen and the subtitles, but his mind was flying like a bird elsewhere, flapping its wings to the thoughts of you.
as time passes by, inosuke eventually composes himself, his focus now on the television screen as the film and its plot slowly processed in both of your minds. reactions and opinions were shared between you and inosuke like you were pros, used to how you both do this with the others. with how the conversation just falls smoothly like the wave of a water, you certainly felt how natural the talks were and you were liking it.
maybe all too much.
"hey i thought this is horror where are the ghosts?"
"oh calm down, nosuke. we still have eight more episodes, you know? of course they'll have to build the plot first."
"aw man this is so boring i need to see the monsters!" inosuke whines loud like a child but he continued watching, earning you a shake from the head with an amused face. you just know that he was only keeping up a front just to make himself look tough. you're beginning to feel excited of what's to come as you two watch further into the scenes.
and when the dreaded jump scare scenes arrived, you certainly did not expect them. and neither did inosuke.
"what the hell was that?! did you see that?!"
"y-yeah, i did." you tried not to stutter but your voice was too weak to conceal it. it did not left unnoticed by inosuke, immediately recognizing that expression of yours.
"what's that? are you scared?"
your eyes narrowed as you faced him, "i'm not scared! and don't pretend that you're not!" you argued, frowning at the way he was trying to act tough. but at the same time, it was not because you felt irritated by these kind of antics. you were actually having fun by these small banters. it just makes you think of the reason why you hadn't done this before.
"you flinched." you say without looking, the corner of your eyes catching his previous and current reactions.
"s'just cold, that's all!" he spats, making you scoff in almost an instant as he pulls the blanket further to his form.
you never had foreseen for someone like inosuke to be affected with the way you tease them but the more you had gotten reactions from him, the more you were beginning to feel competitive to see until the end of the movie marathon.
but alas, everything has its end and it's all because you fell asleep, as well as the said boy. the morning you woke up, it was like you were greeted with a birthday surprise even if it was not your birthday and you should have expected it because you were the one who insisted to yourself to continue watching despite having your eyes already drooping and begging to be closed.
by the time you opened your eyes, you were greeted by the sight of the living room, with the television still on and the sun peeking through the gaps of the blinds on your windows. you barely had the moment to register the living being beside you because your eyes were already wide when you turn to look at inosuke's still-sleeping form, head rested rather uncomfortably on the backseat of the couch and his lap all open for that's where you previously were.
you were about to look away but you found yourself staring at his face; openly and without any sign of embarrassment and shyness. you do admit that inosuke is beautiful but damn this is probably the time you truly believed in it.
the length and curl of his lashes that could match guys and gals alike, the softness of the look on his face even while sleeping and awake, the hue of his hair complimenting his skin complexion and texture, the way his fringes smoothly decorate his face like it was meant to be there.
damn.
you felt that familiar beating in your heart, almost some sort of drum that beats so uniquely than how it normally would. and for you, you knew what it meant.
it meant that even if it's not a competition, it was clear that you lost.

So I just finished the Haunting of Bly Manor and I really enjoyed it. The way it built the story lines, the folk tale aspect of it really struck a chord with me and I found myself becoming really attached to the story and characters. I think that, while not the most scary per se, it did build the horror in a very gradual, very effective way, that, at least for me, didn’t die until the final episode. Now I’m going to talk about my interpretation of the ending. So, spoilers I guess.
So that final shot. My understanding is that the general consensus is that this shot of Dani’s hand on Jamie’s shoulder shows that Dani is still watching over her from beyond the grave. I disagree, I think, or at least, what I took away from the series is that life should be for the living, you shouldn’t hold out hope for ghosts and the supernatural, because they aren’t real. This calls back to the fireside conversation after the Owen’s mother dies.
I interpret Dani’s end to be the death of the last ghost, there are no more dead people walking, she does not walk the halls, and she does not visit her wife. Here’s what I said just after I finished the series:
“and she is there, only in the quiet moments when she's hovering next to sleep, drifting into memories, she can feel her hand on her shoulder”
So that is my interpretation, not that the ghosts of the dead will watch over you, but that you should hold the memory of the ghosts close to you, treasure them, for their memory is strong. That’s why I think that Flora and Miles loosing their memories of what happened, while a net positive, is also tragic, the memory of these ghosts, of these people, of Ms. Jessel, of Hannah Grose especially, is gone for them.

Hi hi,
Thank you soo much for the Gumiho!Lee Soo Hyuk fic it is really good, unique and very on theme with Halloween so it's good that it was so intense it was terrifying and sweet all at once XD I love the suspense of not knowing if he will eat oc or not but also the contrast of him being so gentle and whipped but also wanting to devour her. You captured such a unique atmosphere it's all at once exactly what I hoped for and still better and surprising that you were able to combine the sweetness and real danger without it leaning too much in either direction. I really enjoyed it. I hope you've been well. It feels like it's been so long T.T I've been so busy with uni and life that I didn't find a peaceful moment to read it so I kept reading it paragraph by paragraph. I only had free time to sleep basically. But it made me cherish and savor it so that is good. I still re-read it properly from beginning to end when I had enough down time and had some peace. It's such a treat Author-nim Thank you so much you created something really special. It was really so immersive I was shuddering and getting tingles along with the oc. You are so good at capturing the scene without it being overbearing but it adding to the emotions of the characters. It feels like this should be a movie you created such interesting characters here. 10/10 Job well done.
Niragi is truly horrifying and traumatizing in Alice in Borderland, Chishiya is so cool really and smart he really catches your attention despite being so quiet. My favorite characters are Kuina and Usagi I just think they are such cool, strong and brave people who have had to overcome a lot and deal with such pain due to family but still came out stronger. So, I really admired them and was rooting for them also Kuina is so adorable in a badass way, and I love her dynamic with Chishiya same as I love the teamwork between Usagi and Arisu. I didn't want to continue reading the manga because I want to watch the series' first.
For AHS my favorite seasons in order are Coven, Murder House and Asylum. I adored coven such much that I don't have a favorite character I love everything about it and all the characters are my favorite in one way or another really, I can't pick my most favorite one I enjoyed them all good and bad. The actresses and actors really killed it in this season. I can't stand musical episodes in series, but I loved even the Stevie Nicks episode(s) and singing. My favorite Characters are Violet and Tate (yes even though he is unstable and partially evil) I just think he is an interesting character. Lana Winters and Kit Walker and Sister Jude (even though she was horrible she was also so interesting and fascinating to watch). I think you can tell I love the obvious tragic or tortured heroes/protagonists and the insane/evil but human villain characters.
My favorite Horror is kind of hard to pick because I love horror in general, but I'd say things like Paranormal Activity (one of the first real Horror movies I watched it traumatized me and i got obsessed with it lol), Scream (#BESTFinalGirl), Cabin in the Woods, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Haunting of Hill House, Resident Evil, Escape Room, Freaky, Happy Death Day, Truth or Dare, #Alive (its korean), Train to Busan, Ready or Not, Us, Fright Night. That's a lot sorry. I basically like the final girl type of horror of fighting and outsmarting the big bad or horror troupes put on their heads or zombies and horror comedy or suspense/mystery and horror.
Please tell me when you get your extra blog up and running, I'd love to read your non-kpop/kIdol stuff too.
What's your go to kpop song(s) when you are feeling down or when you want to enjoy a chill day?
Thanks so much again <3

Hello!! I hope you're doing well ♡
Sorry for responding a little late but I've been visiting family so I had little time for anything else haha. But I'm really glad you enjoyed the fic! It was so much fun to write it as well, I was just worried it'd be too horror-ish so I'm glad that you find it well-balanced! Honestly I keep thinking about the fic and Gumiho!LSH so I might write some more stories about this AU in the future. I really want to explore those characters a little more, if that makes sense? Anyway, hopefully I'll have the opportunity to write some more.
And no worries! I was busy myself and uni can be hard~ I'll soon have to focus on some school work as well, and since I should be all done with uni in a few months, it's a little scary. I feel like I should've cherished it more? Maybe I'm just in a sentimental mood lol.
Yeah! Chishiya matches my type really well, I love characters who are so intelligent that they seem almost alien to humans? Something like that. Oh and Kuina was so sweet!! I loved her, she's very cute indeed! Yeah, the interactions and dynamics between the characters were so cool and fun to watch! I can't wait for the second season and what's gonna happen next!
Coven was such an interesting season! You're right, all the characters were great and I was surprised too that I didn't mind the Steve Nicks episode(s). Asylum was also really good, but I was kind of thrown off by the alien stuff, it seemed like it could've been incorporated better but it was quite exciting otherwise! Honestly, those kinds of characters you mention are one of the best ones! I love them too, even if I then keep whining about wanting a nice life for them lmao.
I was so traumatized by Paranormal Activity! Still am I guess, I'm really bad with dealing with that kind of horror even if I enjoy watching it, I don't know why. Final girls are such a concept!! There's something so satisfying about it when it's done well. And ofc, outsmarting the antagonist… my beloved ♡ Also thank you for the movie reccs! I haven't seen some of the movies so I'll check them out if I get into the spooky season mood haha.
Oh! Some of my recommendations for that kind of mood would be: Eraser by Onewe, Kidult by Seventeen, Turbulence by Ateez, One Day by Monsta X, Everything I Love Will Make Me Cry by Movning, Unthinkable by F.T. Island, Let's! by Hoppipolla, Happen by Heize, Let's Not Fall In Love by Big Bang, Lightsaber by EXO (sorry this got so long, I just kept coming up with songs I could not not mention haha)
Thank you for stopping by again! It's always nice to talk to you ♡
