Kusanagi doesn't want to leave the bar under the care of Saru and Yata anymore because they will fuck in the balcony again. 😞
Can you blame him, like come on guys people eat here. Normally Kusanagi is hesitant to leave them in charge of the bar anyway, like he’s not so worried about Fushimi but Fushimi and Yata together seems like a recipe for disaster. One day though he needs to go out somewhere and the other Homra guys who he would usually ask first are busy. Kusanagi’s wondering if maybe he should just close the bar for the day and Yata’s like wait I’m here, I can help. Kusanagi just looks at him and Yata’s all what, I can handle the bar. Fushimi came by for drinks and starts snickering, Kusanagi says it isn’t that he doesn’t trust Yata but there’s a lot that goes into running a bar. He wonders if Fushimi would mind helping out if he’s free, Yata’s all wait why is Saruhiko trustworthy but not me. Kusanagi says consider it just that he doesn’t feel this is a one-person thing, he’d feel better if they handled it together. Fushimi is off for the day so he agrees, probably smirking the whole time about how Kusanagi trusts him with the bar more than Yata.
Anna is also gone on a class trip for the day so they have the bar to themselves, business is pretty slow and Yata’s starting to get bored after a while. Maybe he decides to start practicing his own bartender skills, Kusanagi has a book on how to make drinks for whenever someone else is watching the bar and Yata figures he could learn. Fushimi clicks his tongue and thinks it’s a waste of time but then Yata ropes him in to testing some of the drinks and soon they’re both a little tipsy. Fushimi starts teasing Yata with different drinks, like Misaki why don’t you try Sex on the Beach next and Yata gets bright red, Fushimi laughs like but we’re not on the beach I guess. Yata’s all I could give you…I mean make you…Sex on the Beach, leaning in all close. Fushimi smirks and leans up for a kiss, saying maybe we should try something else, like a Screaming Orgasm.
Eventually Kusanagi returns to the bar, pleased to see it’s in one piece. There’s no one at the counter though and he wonders where Yata and Fushimi wandered off to. That’s when he hears a crash above him and looks up into the balcony to see Yata desperately trying to put his clothes on while stuttering out that he didn’t hear Kusanagi walk in. Kusanagi’s mouth drops open and then Fushimi’s head pops up from between Yata’s legs, looking for once actually vaguely sheepish as he reaches for his discarded shirt. Yata’s already apologizing and Kusanagi just facepalms all ‘Yata-chan…don’t.’ After this they’re never asked to watch the bar alone again, imagine of the Homra alphabet wondering why Yata never has to watch the bar and Yata just laughs nervously while Kusanagi is like he knows why and we’re not talking about it.

I originally posted this on Deviant Art. Wonder if Tumblr has a big KOF fanbase here.
I know that it's less than likely a KOF game would have a roster this big, but I just want all of this characters in a game in some way shape and form. I'd also like 16 to be to continuation of the Shun'ei Saga unlike the rumors suggest (two games isn't enough to get behind him or Meitenkun). I'd also like it to give the rest of the cast good stories as well unlike how sometimes characters show up to just be there. So, I'd like to imagine SNK would continue a lot of the plot lines they had established since 14, hell even earlier.
Team Hero: Shun'ei, Isla, Meitenkun Story: After their victory in the previous tournament and defeating Otoma=Raga, Shun'ei and Meitenkun decided to travel the world without fear of losing control of their powers. While on their travels they grew a strong love for the different customs, food, and art from all different corners of the world. Now with a better understanding of what they're fighting for, Shun'ei and Meitenkun swear to hone their skills for whenever the world's in danger again and sign up for the next KOF tournament. Little did either of the boys know, Isla had been following them since Shun'ei saved her in the last tournament. When she heard they had signed up for KOF, she demanded to join their team and refused to explain why she had been following them. With both Amplified Specters working together, Meitenkun believes he has to make his fighting style more serious to stand along side them.
Team Rival: Kukri, Dolores, Xanadu Story: After Dolores had gotten Isla's Amp powers to reveal the existence of beings like Otoma=Raga, she returned to her home country with Kukri in the hopes to retire. However, she and Kukri would soon sense a third awakening of an Amplified Specter. Unlike how Verse and Re-Verse had created paradoxes in life and death as well as time and space, this third specter appeared to create a misbalance in the concepts of chaos and order. Desperate to stop this, Dolores and Kukri turn to an unexpected ally, Xanadu. As it turns out, Xanadu had not been a simple jibbering madman in prison, but was actually the former teacher of Dolores and had been warning everyone about "The End Times." The three join forces to see what this what this final Amp will do while Kukri plans to simply kick Xanadu back in prison afterwards.
Team Japan: Kyo Kusanagi, Benimaru Nikaido, Goro Daimon Story: After his fight with Iori, Kyo was glad to put his Orochi stopping duties on hold to catch back up with his friends, family, and his girlfriend Yuki. However, another year and a new KOF tournament is announced and Kyo is horrified to see that Team Orochi had reawakened their Orochi powers. Unable to get in contact with Chizuru and unwilling to work with Iori again, Kyo once again turns to his partners Benimaru and Goro. Benimaru was happy to help. After all, he no longer has to look out for Shun'ei and Meitenkun, plus he can rub saving the universe and yet another KOF win in Kyo's face. Goro was also happy to help, although he seemed more interested in telling the others how much his son has grown in age and in his judo skills.
Team Iori: Iori Yagami, Leona Heidern, Adelheid Bernstein Story: After his fight with Kyo, Iori was ready to simply go back to play his music after so many years. Unfortunately, it was only a few months later when he received news that Team Orochi had ambushed and hospitalized Chizuru. As much as he hated to do it, Iori agreed to take part in KOF to take down Team Orochi and stop them from resurrecting their god. He was ready to be a solo combatant, but he was approached by two unexpected allies, Leona Heidern and Adelheid Bernstein. Leona explains that she had confronted her real father and learned about her family's history as Orochi followers. She vows to destroy all traces of the Orochi bloodline. Adelheid explains he had become curious about how the Orochi power corrupted his father so deeply, and wishes to learn more about what Orochi's true nature is. With two new teammates, Iori heads into KOF with death on his mind.
Team Fatal Fury: Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui, Joe Higashi Story: Terry Bogard was normally interested in KOF for the chance to fight strong opponents and occasionally stop some big threat, but things were personal this time. Geese Howard had returned and his grip on Southtown was tighter than ever. Terry knows he must stop Geese again, but he becomes even more frightened when he hears Geese is searching for his son, Rock. With Andy off training with his new pupil, Terry requests Mai to join him and Joe in KOF which she agrees to, both for the sake of her beloved Andy but also just to get away from Athena. Joe has a more serious outlook on the tournament as well, as he both wishes to stop Geese for good on top of getting Billy Kane out of the way of his romance with Lily Kane.
Team Art of Fighting: Ryo Sakazaki, Marco Rodrigues, Yuri Sakazaki Story: Ryo has finally found his calling. After two years of being disillusioned with his family's business, Ryo has finally taken control over the Kyokugen dojo under his father's old moniker "Mr. Karate." With a more serious outlook, Ryo finally allows his pupil, Marco Rodrigues, to join his team for KOF. With Takuma happily retired and Robert busy working on his family's business, Yuri rejoins her brother's team to support Ryo's new attitude as well as getting away from Athena.
Team Ikari Warriors: Whip, Ralf Jones, Clark Still Story: Heidern was in the middle of researching the new Amplified Specter when Ralf and Clark returned to base. He was surprised when they reported Leona had ran off after meeting her real father. While he trusted his adopted daughter to make the right decision, he still couldn't help but worry. As such, he sends out Ralf, Clark, and Whip out to both keep an eye out for the next Amp but also find Leona. He places Whip in charge of the mission and while she is unsure she is ready to be a leader, Heidern knows she will be fine with Ralf and Clark by her side.
Team K': K', Kula Diamond, Maxima Story: Having finally gotten Kula in a good mood, K' was ready to get back to taking down the remains of NESTS. When trashing yet another NESTS base, Maxima gives horrifying news. The leader of NESTS, Igniz, was back and more dangerous than ever. K' is annoyed to find he'd have to take part in KOF again just to take down NESTS new super weapon, but Kula guilt trips him by saying she'll run away with Krohen and Angèl again if he doesn't join. K' reluctantly accepts to join KOF with Maxima assuring this time may finally be the last.
Team Ash: Ash Crimson, Elisabeth Blanctorche, Najd Story: Ash Crimson was living the simple life. He was happy to lay down in the garden with Elisabeth for the rest of his days, but fate had other plans. Elisabeth had been informed of yet another Amplified Specter had appeared. Knowing how Ash's time paradox had caused these to pop up and nearly tear reality apart, he agreed to join her in saving the world again. Unfortunately for Ash, he couldn't get Duo Lon, Shen Woo, Oswald, or even Kukri to join them. As such, Elisabeth turned to a mysterious vigilante named Najd to join them.
Team Psycho Soldiers: Athena Asamiya, Sie Kensou, Chin Gentsai Story: After her attempt of starting a circus show with Yuri and Mai ended with both of them running off, Athena returned to her Psycho Soldiers to find new inspiration for a show. However, her plans changed when she heard upsetting news from Chin, Kensou's dragon powers were acting up again. Knowing how Kensou's powers would gather attention from sinister forces, Athena agreed to help protect her long time friend from harm. While Kensou would normally be thrilled to spend time with the love of his life, he had become obsessed with understanding his dragon powers and what it could mean for his future.
Team Super Heroines: King, Blue Mary, Hinako Shijou Story: After helping Ryo find a new purpose in life, King began to question her own purpose. She knew she had feelings for him, but she also knew she wanted to do something more than just follow Ryo for the rest of her days. While on her new search for a purpose, King was approached by Blue Mary. Apparently, Blue Mary had taken on a new assignment which involved acting as a bodyguard for the young, sumo obsessed Hinako. Hinako had gotten involved in the illegal gambling side of the sumo world and was desperate to escape from it. Feeling the need to protect this young girl, King agreed to help Mary and Hinako.
Team Garuo: Rock Howard, Hotaru Futaba, Tizoc Story: Rock Howard was slowly getting used to the idea of working on a team for the KOF tournament, but he wasn't too thrilled about his teammates. B. Jenet was a lot of energy to keep up with and very greedy while Gato was cold and distant. After both of his teammates ditched him, Rock searched for new partners. He was approached by Hotaru, sister of Gato. She had been searching for her brother and was desperate to stop his quest for revenge. Rock agreed to help her search for Gato, secretly glad to have a girl teammate he could actual stand talking to. Just as he expressed the need for a second partner, the previously "missing" wrestler Tizoc emerged from the shadows, expressing his desire to help both Rock in KOF as well as Hotaru's search for her brother. Little does Rock know, there's a more sinister force following him.
Team Assassins: Duo Lon, Xiao Lon, Lin Story: Upon learning that Ron had finally emerged from hiding, Duo Lon was ready to finally hunt down and kill his father for betraying the Hizoku clan. While he had to decline Ash's request for help, Duo knew how dangerous Ron truly was. Joined by his half sister, Xiao Lon as well as fellow Hizoku assassin Lin, Duo Lon was prepared to finally put an end to Ron once and for all.
Team Shen: Shen Woo, Gai Tendo, Antonov Story: Shen Woo was dying for a fight. It had been too long since his last KOF tournament and he longed for the actual challengers the tournament gathered every year as opposed to the street punks he had been fighting in China. Ready to form his own team, Shen recruited Gai Tendo, a MMA prodigy with the same fiery spirit Shen had. Antonov had also agreed to join Shen's team, although the former KOF champion tried to play it off as if he was the true team leader. Just as Shen signed his team up for KOF, he had gotten a call from Ash asking for help to fight a threat. Shen unfortunately tells his friend he was already caught up in the tournament, but agreed to keep an eye out for anything suspicious.
Team Secret Agents: Vanessa, Seth, Oswald Story: Vanessa had been caught up in a few different investigations at the same time. She had been investigating the Amplified Specters by request of Heidern, she was also been tracking Team Orochi, NESTS, as well as searching for Luong and Hein in the hopes of discovering just what they were planning outside of just offing Geese Howard. She turns to her old colleague Seth in the hopes of getting all these investigations done soon, but she would also be joined by the mysterious Oswald. While his demeanor is professional and respectful, Vanessa and Seth knew he was an assassin, and worried if his loyalty could be bought away.
Team Southtown: Geese Howard, Billy Kane, Raiden Story: Geese Howard and Billy Kane were able to fend off assassination attempts from Hein and Yamazaki before returning to business. Their grip over Southtown tightened as Geese took control of the drug and weapon rings as well as sending Billy out to keep other gangs loyal by force. However, Geese's attention shifted when he heard reports of his son Rock training with his sworn enemy, Terry Bogard. Billy suggests maybe Rock could be persuaded to join his father which Geese is willing to humor. He recruits a former associate of his, the Australian masked wrestler Raiden, to join his team in KOF to track down his son and finally kill Terry Bogard.
Team Anti-Kyokugen: Eiji Kisaragi, Sinclair, Kasumi Todoh Story: Eiji Kisaragi had been in hiding for years watching every single one of his enemies grow in power and recognition. The Sakazaki's had grown their dojo into a family business with a restaurant. Iori Yagami had defeated several world threatening entities. When he heard Ryo Sakazaki had named himself Mr. Karate, Eiji had finally had enough of his foes' arrogance. He left the shadows to enter KOF once again to finally prove himself the greatest. He once again turns to his old ally, Kasumi Todoh, but he also recruits another old foe of the Sakazakis, Sinclair. Together, the three swear to lay waste to their enemies.
Team Orochi: Orochi Yashiro, Orochi Shermi, Orochi Chris Story: While Yashiro, Shermi, and Chris weren't able to get revenge on Team Sacred Treasures in the previous tournament like they had planned, they did get fairly far into the tournament and were able to gather enough battle energy to reawaken their Orochi powers. With their powers reawakened, Team Orochi ambush Chizuru and hospitalize her. With her out of the way, they successful crippled the Sacred Treasures as they knew Kyo and Iori wouldn't be willing to work together without her. With that, they can finally focus on reawakening their god. Once they win KOF, no one will be safe.
Team NESTS: Nameless, Krizalid, Original Zero Story: When Verse was destroyed, many of NESTS highest ranking members returned from the dead, including the Original Zero, Krizalid, and their leader, Igniz. Desperate to reestablish NESTS as the all-encompassing organization it had been years ago, Igniz took control of an old, abandoned NESTS base to restart their research. There, Igniz finally created what he called "the ultimate weapon." This was the genetically engineered warrior only referred to as Nameless. Igniz sends Krizalid and Zero to accompany Nameless into KOF to hunt down and kill all of NESTS enemies, starting with K', Maxima, and Kula Diamond.
Team Outlaws: Luong, Hein, B. Jenet Story: Hein's plan to assassinate Geese Howard had failed and Luong was unable to steal the real Sage's Eye. The two of them were forced to go into hiding to think of a new plan to get what they will do next. They decided they would manipulate their old allies, the secret agents, Kim's family, the Amplified Specters, as well as the chaos of groups like NESTS and the Hakkesshu to overwhelm Geese until they go for the kill. They recruit self-proclaimed pirate B. Jenet to act as their third member for the tournament with a promise of money gaining her loyalty.
Team Villains: Ron, Freeman, Silber Story: Ron had remained in hiding long enough. The dragon souls had built up quite a bit over the years, but the appearance of the Amplified Specters caught his attention as well. With a desire to make these strange powers his own, Ron joins the KOF tournament to capture Kensou, Shun'ei, and Isla as well as finally disposing of his old Hizoku followers. He recruits British serial killer Freeman and martial arts madman Silber to join him. Neither could care less about Ron's plan. Freeman was content to keep killing people while Silber was just willing to fight any foe that seemed like a challenge for him. Little do either know, once Ron accomplishes his goal, he will dispose of both of them.

Bright as Red [2]
Pairing: Yata Misaki x reader
Description: Reader is left on the streets in a severe situation, being found by Totsuka Tatara, who gets to himself the responsability to help and heal the girl in HOMRA’s headquarters. When she wakes up, she’s led by the wanting to seek for revenge, going after who’s hurt her.
Warnings: swears and mentions of possible r*pe.
Word count: 2,750.
That afternoon the headquarters was silent - not even Kusanagi was behind the bar, taking care of his beloved belongings.
Y/N was sitting on the leather couch as she tied her shoelaces. Yata Misaki had just entered the building, skateboard on hands, when she got up and crossed eyes with him. Curious, the boy asked, not wanting to sound rude:
“Where you think you’re going?”
She hesitated before answering, passing her weight to one feet to the other.
“Home,” Yata’s brows furrowed, and before he could ask anything else she added: “Kinda. I can’t use your clothes forever,” she gestured vaguely to her own body, still using Yata’s shirt and shorts, a bit loose on her.
“I thought you said your house was attacked,” his brows were furrowed more than ever, his hand gripping tightly to his skateboard.
“It was.”
“And you intend to go there alone? All by yourself?”
The boy sounded not only angry, but a little worried, Y/N thought.
“I can’t ask anyone to go with me.”
“Of course you can. You’re one of us now.”
“I didn’t mean that,” she smiled just a bit. “The bar is empty,” she shrugged.
“Oh,” Yata lost arguments. “In that case, couldn’t you wait?”
She took a deep breath and sat back on the couch, hands passing through her hair.
“I need to go there. I need to see… what left. If anything.”
Yata didn’t understand any of that, his life before HOMRA being way too different than hers, but he thought that she wasn’t being inconsequent, at least not entirely. It was understandable. Except the part for going alone. That was stupid.
“As far as I understand, that place is still dangerous for you to go, let’s say alone. C’mon, I’ll go with you,” he said before she even opened her mouth. Yata got his baseball bat and looked at her by the door, as if saying you coming?
She smiled - causing him to blush - and followed him. Even though Yata had his skateboard, it remained on his hands.
Y/N led the path to her house, the silence between them very much palpable, although it didn’t seem to bother the girl. She had her hands on tight fists, her jaws clenched. Yata could only wonder how she felt - angry? Sad? Nervous? All three of them? He didn’t know what to do nor what to say, so he just stood behind her, following as she turned street after street.
He would be lying if he said he didn’t want nothing to happen while they were at her house. It was a dangerous location at the moment, but he had hopes that whoever attacked her, they would be there, so he could kick the shit out of their bastard ass.
What kind of person would hurt a girl that bad? The memory of her being carried inside the bar by Totsuka still haunted Yata’s thoughts, all the blood and dirt and ripped clothes. He only hopped for the ripped clothes to mean nothing else like he was imagining. He thought that, if it was the case, she would’ve said, right? She wouldn’t be hanging around with all of them, with all those men.
“I know what you’re thinking,” she said upfront, as if reading his mind. He swallowed. “It’s written in all your faces, the doubt. Don’t worry, Yata-san,” she turned her head to look at him, and Yata’s heart raced at the sufixe on his name leaving her mouth.
“Good,” was his only response as he gripped his hand tighter to his skateboard and baseball bat. “But that doesn’t mean they’re impune on that.”
“No. They’re not,” she said, impassive. “It’s here.”
Y/N stopped at the front gates, the house behind it being very beautiful.
Besides the fact that was a damn mess.
“Were you here? When this happened, I mean,” Yata asked.
She hadn’t told that part of the story, not yet.
“I was. My mom told me to hide, but when I saw that…”she closed her eyes. “When I saw that it was useless, after…”
Yata froze in place, not knowing what to do.
“I know,” he said, saving her to say the words, or anything like it.
“So I ran. I know it might look like that this was useless too, but maybe this is what saved my life.”
He nodded once.
“Because of that Totsuka-san saw you. Saved you. It wasn’t useless. It was a good call,” he gestured his head towards the house. “Ready when you are.”
She opened the gates and entered the property without ceremonies, Yata right behind her.
“Let me,” he said before she could open the front door. Y/N stared at Yata for a moment before nodding one time, giving him space.
With the bat he opened the door slowly, taking a peek inside. It was dark and a mess. The furniture was broken and scattered all around, papers being the new floor. Yata tried to switch the light on.
“I think the energy was cut.”
“Or destroyed. The wires, I mean.”
Yata entered, followed by Y/N. She took a look around, devastated.
“I didn’t know… it looked that bad.”
“Were they looking for anything specific?” Yata poked the mess on the floor with his bat.
“I don’t know. I mean, clearly they were - are -, but I don’t know what it is.”
“I don’t understand why this happened. All you said is that you and your parents were attacked.”
“I don’t understand much of it either, I never knew something was up until that day. All I know is that this creepy guy came in, prying up the gates and door, screaming for something,” Y/N got on her knees and moved a piece of furniture - or what left of it - away from the wall, revealing a vent. With her fingers and nails she tried to open it, failing.
It took Yata only a movement of his hand to open the small vent with his Red Aura.
“You gotta learn how to use your powers now.”
“It’s been less than a day. Cut me some slack,” she gave him a small smile and put her hand inside the vent, taking out some money. She continued to tell the story as more money came out. “That piece of shit came in, already breaking everything and asking ‘where is it?’ as some demand. Fuck, I wish I knew what ‘it’ is. I don’t even know what my father had gotten himself into.”
“You’re here to find this out,” Yata stated as Y/N got up, money in hands. She nodded.
The next thing she did was go upstairs, to what Yata thought was her room. Shy, he stood by the door as he waited for her to gather what she wanted. She came back with two backpacks, one full of what he assumed was her clothes and the other for whatever she was looking for. The money was in there.
“I need to go to my parent's room,” she said seriously.
“Okay.”
“I can’t do this alone.”
“Oh…”
Yata froze once again, chewing the inside of his cheeks. Of course that he nodded to her, what else could he possibly do? Let her go alone in there? In front of the door she froze, hands halfway to the doorknob. Yata opened it for her with his power. She gave him a thankful look.
He could hear when she stopped breathing, taking all in.
The room was just as a mess as the rest of the house, but he understood why Y/N would be all shaken up. Her parents just died, she was all alone in this world and to see this place looking like this…
It wasn’t easy, he wondered. With shaky hands and a racing heart, Yata placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, making her tremble by surprise. It felt like his touch gave her the strength that she needed, because a second later she was already moving around the room.
Yata moved along, taking a peek here and there, not really knowing what to look for - or what he was looking at.
“I’m looking for my dad’s computer, or my mom’s. Any computer, really, hoping that no one got it first.”
“Got it.”
Yata started looking at the dresser, ignoring the underwear with a deep heat blush as he found a key.
“Oi,” he called, both of them turning at each other. He tossed the key at Y/N, who got it midair. “Nice catch,” he said with a rascal smile.
Y/N examined the key carefully.
“I’ve got no idea what this opens,” she said while turning the key between her fingers.
“Guess we gotta try to open every damn thing to find out,” and there it was again, that rascal smile.
“So let’s try to open every damn thing,” she answered with the same smile on her lips.
“We should try my dad’s office,” Y/N said after a failed search at her parent's room. She didn’t want to take anything from there, or at least Yata didn’t see it. As they stepped in the room, Yata pointed at the computer on the desk.
“That computer, you meant?” He had a funny look on his face.
“Of course not,” she said calmly. “Although I could take the hard drive off to take a look later, but I have the feeling that there’s nothing in it.”
“Considering everything, yeah,” Yata opened every drawer and door.
“With your power we don’t need this key to open whatever’s closed, but that surely gave us the idea to look for something hidden.”
“I don’t know, the first thing you did when you got here was to pry open a vent and take money. I think you would find something that was hidden in some closed drawer or whatever.”
“Good point,” she smiled.
Yata’s phone started ringing and he answered.
“Yatagarasu here.”
“Yatagarasu?” Y/N let out a little giggle.
“Ah, Kusanagi-san. She’s with me. I-I’m with her, I mean. She…”
Y/N was nodding furiously. Don’t tell him!
“She needed fresh air. To think. I’m keeping her company, making sure nothing happens. Okay. Got it.”
“Thank you for not telling anything.”
“That’s not good. If they ever find this out, I’m dead meat.”
They continued their search, Yata being faster than ever. “After that call I think we should speed things up a lil’ bit.”
“I have an idea.” Y/N started to toss all the books from the bookshelves to the floor in a speed up race. “Help me!” And so Yata did it. After all the bookshelves were clean, he asked: “What now?”
“Now we look for fakes.”
“Fakes?”
As an answer, Y/N started knocking on the wall, trying to hear if anything sounded like there was a space behind it.
“It sounds weird here,” Yata said, knocking the same spot multiple times. Y/N nodded to him, giving permission to use his power there.
“But be careful. We don’t want to fuck up anything in there.”
“‘Course.”
A rash of red flames burst out of Yata towards the spot in the bookshelf, opening a hole up. The edges were still burning when Y/N stretched out her arm and looked for whatever was inside there.
“A velvet purse,” she said before opening it.
“Are those…?”
“Computer parts,” Y/N finished. “A hard drive. Two, actually. I’m gonna take the one in the computer as well. It’ll only take a moment.”
“No rush,” Yata said as he turned around, wondering if they should look for more.
“I think we can call it a day. Just do these last honors, would ya?”
Y/N was kneeled by a vent, giving Yata a sassy smile.
“Sure thing,” he quickly opened the vent and Y/N grabbed a handful of money. When she got up he noticed her stare at him. “What?”
She was actually staring at what he had on his hands, his skateboard and bat.
“My dad had…” she pointed with her chin at his bat. “My dad had one autographed by his favorite player. I would like to take that with me.”
“Where is it?”
“It was supposed to be here.
“Let’s go look for it. Maybe it’s still here.”
Yata’s determination in helping Y/N surely gave her the strength that she needed to not start running away from her house, scared by her feelings and by the state of the property. What was she thinking? She could’ve never go there alone. She wouldn’t make it. Not by herself.
“I’ll look here and you there. Let’s make it quick,” she told him.
After some time of looking through the mess she finally found it, her dad’s aluminum metal baseball bat, signed by his favorite player. For a moment she didn’t have the guts to take it, to merely touch it - the hell with it, she couldn’t even look at it without threatening tears. She sobbed as she kneeled in front of it, dropped carelessly on the floor. As if it was used and then discarded.
Yata was seeing all of that from the corner, not wanting to let her know that he could see her; but considering how good she was to say all the right things in the right time, he had no doubts that she knew he was there, looking.
It was heartbreaking, the whole thing.
Her sobs bursting out of her made Yata want to do something, anything, to make her feel better. A thing like this should never happen to a girl. And she was so smart, so self-reliant…
“Did you really look everywhere?”
Y/N immediately turned to where the strange voice came from, and Yata didn’t give a shit anymore if she knew he was looking at her crying. Both of them stood there, frozen and quiet. Even her breath was calculated.
The outsider steps were fading away - whoever was there, they were probably going to the office. Thank goodness Yata and Y/N had just left there, taking anything important with them.
With the most silent steps Yata has ever heard, Y/N got up, her dad’s bat in hand and both backpacks on each of her shoulders.
She said silently “the garage” and Yata followed her. Once there - no car at sight - she started looking for something, with a mixture of most silent and quickness she could pull up. She let out a happy sigh when she found whatever she was looking for. Yata turned to see her putting on roller skates.
Something lit up inside the boy, a new and therefore unknown sensation. He quickly shrugged it off - there was no time for new feelings, not now.
“We gotta go,” Y/N said in a rush, getting up on her roller skates.
Yata stood where he was, anger flowing through him, getting into his bloodstream, making his Red Aura make a casual appearance. He tightly gripped his bat.
“Was it them?’ It was all he asked.
“I don’t know. The voices sounded different, plus I think the guy who attacked me isn’t here.”
“But they surely are with him,” it was taking all of Yata’s strength to not go after those bastards and give them hell.
“There’s no time for it. We gotta go. Now,” when she saw that Yata wasn’t moving, his Red Aura getting darker and stronger, she continued talking. “Don’t you think I don’t wanna do something, too? I do! But that’s not the right time. I can’t take the risk of losing the hard drives.”
His aura gave up a little bit, but he was still not moving.
“Yata-san, please,” his jaw clenched. “Please.”
“Lemme take one backpack,” he held out his hand. She tossed him one.
“Let’s be quiet until we’re at a safe distance.”
Yata was amazed by her ability to tiptoe on those roller skates, being able to not emit a single sound. Outside the garage, in the backyard, Y/N looked back at her house. “I don’t think I’ll be coming back here again.” He could only give her a sympathizing look.
“What about the key?” He asked.
“I don’t think it matters anymore. Let’s bet on a race to HOMRA,” she said, a smile on her lips washing away any sadness. Before Yata could agree, still putting her backpack on his shoulders, she was already skating away, getting an advantage.
“Oi!” He shouted when he was already on the streets. “Wait up! That’s not fair!” He complained as the air gave him her laugh as a response.

“R:B” CHAPTER 6 (Part 3)
TRANSLATION & RAWS: NARU-KUN
* Chapter 1 * Chapter 2 * Chapter 3: Part 1 / Part 2 * Chapter 4: Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 * Chapter 5 * Chapter 6: Part 1 / Part 2 /
The move of "Scepter 4" exceeded Totsuka's expectations. He thought he had, but had no choice but to chase Yamata here.
An emergency exit at the back of the store. The exit has an emergency staircase that attaches to the exterior wall of the building.
Yamata runs down the stairs, making a thud. Similarly, Totsuka steps onto the stairs and chases Yamata's back.
He goes down the alley, chases after him, takes out his PDA and calls Kusanagi's number.
"You got it?"
There was a response with a call. It's proof that Kusanagi was also on hold.
"Sorry! Yata and Fushimi clashed with Yamata!"
"What?"
"Scepter 4 is here! The two of them are fighting. I'm chasing Yamata who got away!"
"Ah?!"
Kusanagi's voice seems to have disappeared. He seems to laugh, but honestly it is not a laugh.
Yamata was fleeing with all his might. Totsuka can't catch up if he doesn't run desperately.
“Kusanagi-san, go to the usual store! Both Yata and Fushimi became considerably heated. If you don't stop someone, you won't be able to do it!"
When he appeals about the PDA, after complaining that he was sick,
"It's okay."
Kusanagi answered once and for all.
“I will address immediately. Are you chasing he? How about everything there?"
"All right!"
"Hmm. Honestly, if something happens, please contact me."
Hung up the call. A quick decision, unsurprisingly, from "Homura's" advisor. If necessary, he will spare no effort. Now he can focus on Yamata in front of him. As long as he've made a promise, he'll keep it down.
A fireball the size of a tennis ball erupted from Totsuka's palm.
The fireball collapsed from within like a hatching egg, turned into a delicate flame butterfly, and flew away from Totsuka's palm.
The power is weak, but Totsuka has finely controlled that "power".
Yamata goes through the alley. The flame butterfly flies forward. The butterfly flaps and shoots sparks in the wind. Flying in the air, closing in on Yamata in front. A little late, Totsuka exits the alley onto the main street.
A shopping trip.
The well-maintained boardwalk is accompanied by lush trees on the streets, and the colorful displays are lit by the gradually darkening sun. Shoppers returning home or moving to eat were very active. Yamata pushes those passersby and escapes without looking back while chaining small screams.
The fire butterfly released by Totsuka glowed as if erasing the tip of his nose. In response to the sudden heat, "Huh?", Yamata steps on his footprint.
"Yamata!"
Totsuka called out with a strong voice. Yamata looked behind him reflectively.
Passersby look at them while whispering. He doesn't care about Totsuka, he moves slowly.
While looking directly into the other person's eyes and blocking movement with line of sight.
"Come on, stop."
He said that clearly.
"Even if you run away, nothing will be resolved."
Yamata's entire body stirred. He was lost and he got up, as if he was stunned and almost shattered.
A painful expression on his face. But it cannot be forgiven. It cannot be overlooked for Yamata himself. "Yamata" kills his emotions and screams. From here, what is the correct answer? With that in mind, Totsuka walks towards Yamata.
However…
"Huh, Yamata?"
Sudden screams were heard behind Yamata at the end of the street. Two boys. Yamata showed his face.
After being surprised by Yamata and stopping, the boys rush to run. Seeing both of them reveal their anger, Totsuka hurriedly tried to run to Yamata's side.
However…
"Well, that? King?"
When he saw Suoh, who appeared after the duo, he opened his eyes. Suoh also shows a surprised face, "Totsuka?"
"Why are you here? What about those two?"
"......"
Suoh skipped the further explanation and pointed at the two of them and Yamata.
The boys and Yamata seem to know each other. One of the boys, a boy with short hair, confronts Yamata with the urge to attack.
"It has been well adjusted! You only push dangerous work!"
"Well, so what? Even the others would be convinced."
"What's going on? Didn't you hear about the installation?"
"You know it! It's up to you!"
One of the duo members is completely angry, and Yamata has a reaction from the previous collapsed state. He was hurting the boys, exposing his childishness. People are quickly leaving the street, perhaps because they were afraid of being caught.
"These two people are Strains."
Totsuka is surprised by Suoh's line.
“This is the last mafia. They used their power in the name of "Homura". They said it crying."
So that was the situation.
The boys are minors from the looks of it. The fact that they dated Yamata and his friends may mean they don't even go to school. If you are not good at it, you may be out and about. Unfortunately, talented people, especially Strains who do not belong to the clan, often leave the world. Especially the minors.
For such an isolated Strain, belonging to a clan has great meaning. Also, if the two of them live in Shizume-cho, it can be said that joining "Homura" is a matter of life and death. If such a condition occurs, it should be difficult to refuse. And that must have been well understood by Yamata, who used them.
Show awake "power" and use acquired "position" to attack the weak. Totsuka's face was sadly distorted. He thinks it's not just Yamata. Something similar may not be uncommon in the current "Homura".
A short time ago, Suoh's line reached his heart. They said they continued to oppose those who forced something. He thinks that's correct.
However, no one has forced Totsuka to gain "power". And when he realized, this time Totsuka was forcing others to do something. Ironically. Totally. However, he will not leave it as is. He cannot do it. If he makes a mistake, he can correct it, and if there is a mistake, he can teach it. At least he can't just give up and leave it alone.
So…
Suoh took a few steps and stepped forward. Approaching Yamata and the others. He doesn’t look back even if Totsuka said "King?"
Suddenly it hit me.
There is a change in the air that Suoh uses. He can't put it well in words, but he doesn't doubt it. He feels like the feeling of emotional stagnation he has been feeling for a while has faded compared to when he left "HOMRA".
Freshness as if it had been swept away. But at the same time, it was unpleasant.
He had that feeling.
"This dyed boy is Yamata?"
Suoh called Yamata and the others who were arguing. After all, it seems that Yamata couldn't see the surroundings. It seemed like he didn't notice Suoh until he was called out and he turned as pale as a dead man.
"King…"
After barely crying out, he shuddered and cowered like a sinner in front of the worst prisoner.
The two boys also shut their mouths tightly, and Suoh, who took a deep breath as he retreated like a stray cat taking care of the guard dog, looked at Yamata as he stood silently.
Totsuka rushed over to Suoh's side. For whatever reason, his reaction is quick. He feels that he approached a canister full of nitroglycerin.
By the way, he understands why the duo came here. But what about Suoh? Why did he bother to accompany them? To be honest, it's not like Suoh.
“King, calm down. There is a problem, but it can be avoided if we hurry."
He calls out to him from the side, but Suoh didn't even pretend to listen.
Staring at Yamata in silence for a while.
"I remembered."
He laughed a little. Totsuka involuntarily asks, "What?"
"Don't you remember? On the way home after drinking outside. Did you find a kid on the street in the middle of the night?"
Yamata shuddered and remembered Totsuka.
It was a rainy night. Kusanagi said that after the regular members made a lot of noise in the bar, he sometimes wanted to have fun as a customer. Then late after Anna went to bed, Suoh, Kusanagi, and Totsuka went out for a drink.
A corner of the shopping street where the shutter was opened. Under a rain-soaked street lamp, a boy was beaten up by a trio of bullies. It was later discovered that one of the drunken thugs tried to catch him and failed. The man was furious with the help the target received, and the remaining two smiled at their partner kicking the boy. However, Kusanagi screamed, and when he saw Suoh and Totsuka behind him, especially Suoh, he changed his complexion and left.
Totsuka offered treatment to the remaining boy, but the boy ran away without speaking. Then about half a month later, he visits "HOMRA".
He wanted to be strong, he wanted to get out of the oppressed side, he wants to defend myself.
Even when he witnessed the flames that Suoh gave him, he should have only fought back for a short time.
"......"
Totsuka looks back at Yamata. It's no wonder that he didn't notice it right away, and Yamata's impression was very different from at that time. He has a different taste in clothes and a different hair color. Above all, he felt that the human face itself was changing.
But once he notices it, there is no question. It's the boy at the time.
"But why? You said you wanted to enter "Homura" because you don't like to find things like that."
He is still shocked and only speaks his thoughts.
"Why?" Suoh said.
"I didn't want to be eaten, so I turned to the side to eat. Rather, it's easy to understand."
"That's right. Then nothing will change. At best, someone else will be oppressed."
"Still, when asked which one is better, most should make the same decision as this one."
Suoh said that and laughed a little.
"You guys too."
And he turned his head towards the duo.
"Did you try to enter "Homura" because you wanted to win?"
The two of them suddenly stiffened. However, there is no doubt that he is a star. His position and power as a member of the clan. The feelings of the Strains who love him are painfully understandable.
"I mean…" Suoh continues.
"You guys are entwined in the same hole... No, not just you. So are we."
"King."
"What? You can't help. We are just a group of lost people, who happen to be a king and a member of the clan. It's not a big deal, it's not a shame."
It was a simple speech.
Suoh is looking around not only at the duo but also at Yamata this time.
"You guys had nothing? So you wanted it and you were fighting, right? Other than that, you shouldn't have wanted someone to congratulate you. The villain seems to be a villain, so stay bold."
From Suoh's low-pitched voice, it sounded like a lack of emotion. However, Totsuka realized that this was not the case.
On the surface, he seems calm only because the intense emotions and conflicts in the deep end are extremely balanced. It is a good proof that it is an unprecedented fiery language. The fetal movement of magma on the edge of the eruption is broadcast without voice or expression.
"But…"
Suoh continued. He felt an invisible spark fly out with a click.
"What you steal from others will one day be stolen by others. That's for sure."
Suoh speaks softly, but his presence and intimidation have increased as he speaks.
Even Totsuka is astonished at the words. As he feels a light shining throughout his body, watch Suoh and take care of his king.
"By the way, I'll tell you. What you really want is not power or position, it is not where you are or money. After all, there is only one. It is not a belt. If you have a mess and feel like it, you will be bound by it. Afraid of being robbed and you will have to destroy it. You don't know. It will sway, squeak, cause pain and finally return to where it was."
Suoh said all that. The balance of multiple emotions is gradually breaking down. The space centered on Suoh is bubbling.
"What I wish?"
He asked that while shaking, not Yamata or the peculiar boy who was biting him, it was the more mature boy with glasses who was carrying a backpack. Suoh was not startled by his piercing eyes and stared back at him. From the bottom of his heart, he wanted to know Suoh's answer.
Suoh replied.
"Respect yourself."
That was exactly the word of the "Red King".
Yamata opened his eyes as if he had been hit by a storm. He clenched his teeth and brought tears to the corners of his eyes. A boy with peculiar hair gasped and asked questions, and the boy with a satisfied smile clenched his fist involuntarily.
Totsuka is no exception. Even without the boys' shock, Suoh's words were sucked into his chest, and he felt like he was stuck where he should fit.
Self-esteem.
In today's damn world, we can live without those things. You can live. Some may even argue that it is simply annoying. Even without such a thing, people can be happy.
But Totsuka doesn't think so.
True self esteem is different from self-esteem, driving, and vanity. The dignity of being oneself is nothing more than a pillar that supports it. Even if people vary in shape and size, people cannot live as people without at least something to support them. Whatever the form, you cannot get true happiness without respecting yourself.
And what Suoh says is correct.
Even if you feel like you've earned your own self-esteem by trampling on the self-esteem of others, it is, after all, a "mistake". If you are trampled on by others, you will easily lose it and move further and further away from your true self-esteem because you are afraid of losing it.
Only you can take away your true self-esteem.
"Yamata. You go on like you can't win. You are standing in a tower on the sand. No matter how hard the sand is hardened by someone else's blood, it will collapse for a moment."
Suoh said that sternly.
Each of the unemployed has a weight that cannot be neglected. The weight is applied and the air around it seems to increase the viscosity. It may be more the weight of "reality" than Suoh's dignity. He is not aware of it on a daily basis, it is just the weight that is always there.
Then, Yamata's entire body trembled.
"If so…"
He tightened his voice to speak.
"So, King. Red King. I... what should I do? I was given a mark on my body and I became a member of "Homura", and they looked at me from the surroundings... In the end no one deceived me, I became a full-fledged person... If not, King, how did I get my true self-esteem?"
With a flushed face, Yamata finally looked at the king from the front.
Suoh tells his clan member to stay away.
"Think for yourself. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense."
Even if there is self-esteem given by favor, it is something that cannot be a pillar that sustains oneself.
There are no shortcuts or loopholes. You have no choice but to grow it with your own hands.
The self-respecting heart can be a supporting force because it stands up with its own hands.
And it's never the kind of thing that would hurt others.
Yamata makes a wrinkled and distorted face at his exposed loss.
"So, what exactly is a Clansman? For what reason are you imitating something that gives you strength."
At Yamata's question, Totsuka was ready before Suoh. "Yamata, that's all.", He leaned forward and tried to explain.
But Suoh...
"I do not know."
He answered very easily.
It is a throwing spear line. However, there is fever in that word. The heat of hesitation and irritation that burns through Suoh's lower body. Suoh also had a hidden, scorching remnant, a sign of suffering.
"Frankly, there is no deep reason, or maybe that's what the king is."
However, Suoh continues.
Connect words while having a fierce conflict within.
"Let me tell you one thing. The only ones I date are those who have self-esteem in the Shizume-cho way of life. They got together to make "Homura". It's okay? There is no such thing as the meaning of being "Homura". They are the ones who give it meaning."
It was like hitting.
Suoh's entire body swelled for a moment, creating the illusion of rushing heat waves.
Totsuka is impressed.
"King..."
He looks at Suoh's profile. Suoh clicked his tongue and averted his eyes from Yamata.
Yamata collapses and drools. The two boys also stood up unable to say anything.
He felt tired, but the tense time flows.
Finally…
"Totsuka."
Suoh muttered while staring into space.
"I have decided."
Totsuka opened both eyes.
The shock received by Totsuka must have been transmitted to Suoh without seeing the reaction. However, Suoh does not compete. He does not care.
"That's. Although "Homura" is a team, it doesn't mean anything. Whoever wants to stay must stay and whoever wants to leave must go. What is the reason why we are particular about the "form" of "Homura"? I like it."
It was an unpredictable way of saying something to him. However, Suoh's profile has someone's determination. He couldn't catch up on his thoughts. He cannot feel the reality in Suoh's dialogue and cannot organize his feelings.
Totsuka keeps his head still.
"... Seriously?"
"It is bad."
"What will Kusanagi-san say?"
"I do not know. Isn't it unexpectedly refreshing?"
"If Yata heard that, would he pass out?"
Suoh laughs.
"You want to do?"
"I only…"
Totsuka had a little excuse.
Then he kneaded his shoulders while confused.
"For now, let's start preparing for the break-up party..."
He intended to do his best, but when he tried to say it, his feelings became lighter. He himself is surprised. Before he knew it, was the "Homura" sign that heavy even for Totsuka?
Or is this an escape? Is the feeling of release that distracts him from unpleasant problems, even for a while, the true nature of this state of mind?
Could be like this.
If so, do he regret it? The exchange at this moment is bitter. Then…
"Stop, please."
A weak voice spilled out.
It's Yamata.
"Because of me, "Homura" is gone... Hmm, "Homura" is strong, dignified and great... I've always admired it..."
Yamata said with a drool. He rubs his nose.
"Please stop saying those things."
Yamata's appearance pleading overlapped with the appearance of a boy who took Suoh's hand that day. The joy and the proud smile of the king's flames in his mind fascinated him.
Totsuka's spine stretched.
"I…"
He shook his head and smiled with all his might.
It is not a Totsuka belief that you lose if you run away. The idea and way of life of Totsuka is that if you are in pain, you should rest and if you don't like it, you can stop.
However, this time it is a little different. This is the place to go.
"Thank you, let's pay for our sins."
Suoh frowned. Look at Totsuka.
"Other than this, he did not sin. No, even if he committed the crime, it would not be the 'sin' we would say."
"Still, as a member of 'Homura', I have to add a punishment."
"Homura is over."
"It's not over yet. And... I'm against it."
Totsuka turned to the side and looked directly at Suoh.
"You have a place to stay. I need a place to properly lay this noisy king. To take a nap, eat, and sometimes make you laugh. Not for you, but for everyone."
"Ah? For everyone?"
Suoh's eyes became more pronounced, perhaps because he had touched the scales. It is a fierce force that can start to make you cry even if you are not a child. However, Totsuka keeps smiling like an iron wall and smiles into Suoh's line of sight.
“So it's okay with me. Of course, Kusanagi-san too."
When he returned such an answer so lightly, Suoh controlled his mouth and clicked his tongue once more.
"Yamata. Okay?"
When he confirms… Yamata nodded.
The screaming gaze burns Totsuka's neck. He is not afraid or joking. It is as if a wild lion is at his side, raising its jaw and blowing its fishy breath.
While Totsuka tried not to be aware of that...

You mentioned sasuke has a lot of enemies, did they ever try to use Naruto to get to sasuke?
(Story time. This happened only once tho.)
It was Saturday and Naruto was playing video games when the door rank. It was daylight and he figured it were just some girl scouts selling cookies. He opened the door and sees this beautiful women and he thought “damn” . Then what he thought was a women, talked and it was clearly a men. But Naruto wasn’t going to assume their gender. So he was avoiding the pronounce.
“Good afternoon, My name is Haku Yuki.” Haku said, tucking his long black hair behind his ear. “I’m sorry, does a Sasuke Uchiha live here. I believe his full name is Sasuke Uchiha-Uzumaki now. I hope I am not at the wrong address.”
“Yes he lives here. He is my husband.” Naruto says.
“What a lucky man he is, you’re pretty handsome...And cute.” Haku says eyeing Naruto who blushed slightly.
“He’s not home. He went grocery shopping, but he will be back. You can come inside if you want?”
“It would be my pleasure,” Haku said kindly and entered the house. He took his shoes off immediately and walked inside.
“So where do you my husband from?” Naruto asks as he indicated to the couch. He expected Haku to probably be family the two had some similarities. Only Haku was soft spoken and a lot kinder.
“We went to highschool together.” Haku says with a smile. Naruto thought he kept a pretty good poker face the moment. He knew damn well that was not a good sign and he cursed his guest friendly nature.
“Do you want something to drink? I will make us some tea and you can tell me all about highschool with Sasuke.” Naruto gets up to go to the kitchen, thinking if he climbed out of the window there he could jump to the rain pipe and climb down. Haku wouldn’t be any wiser. But he was wrong the moment he entered the kitchen and opened the window he felt a gun pressed against his back and a chill voice telling him not to scream. Haku told him to close the window and get back inside. And Naruto had choice. He was put down on a chair as Haku closed the curtains and tied Naruto up.
Haku puts the gun away and sits down adjacent to Naruto.
“Sasuke in high school. He was very talented. I had hard time catching up to him. It really bothered me that he ended up being number one and I was number two. He was good. He could twist the neck of a bunny without thinking twice. I never liked killing. He was a natural though. I think I have some pictures, which are not fabricated...” Haku sasy reaching for his bag.
“Fabricated. I thought Fugaku fabricated the pictures himself.” Naruto said.
“Oh no, the boarding school fabricated a lot of it. They probably send him already fabricated pictures.” Haku grabs a few pictures and show them.
“This is me,” he points at a picture where he was sitting on a wall, holding a knife behind the pictures were like 5 dead bodies. “This is Sasuke...But we called him number 13 back then. I was number 34 and This guy was like 55 or so.” He points at Sasuke in the picture who was not smiling. He wasn’t even looking. The other child seemed to be crying.
Haku grabbed another picture, “This is us during hell week.”
“Hell week?” Naruto asked.
“oh where we survived on only one to three hours of sleep while going through intensive training. It was rough. Especially when they tortured us during to keep our mouths shut.”
“That is terrible!” Naruto says.
“I thought so too,” Haku said.
He hears the door open and close and Haku presses his finger against his lips. Naruto was wondering what was going through Haku’s head.
“SASUKE!” He screamed, there was no way he was not going to warn him...Only down luck....Naruto always screamed Sasuke for insignificant things.
“Yes,yes..I am coming. I swear to god if it is that damn game again...” He entered the living room and sees Haku. Haku waves at him. Sasuke looks at Naruto. Naruto looks at Sasuke.
“Hey Sasuke-” Haku didn’t even have time to finish. It was quickly die or fight and Naruto had to be honest he did not get to see Sasuke fighting someone who was as skilled as he was and seeing to two going at it was like watching an action movie.
Sasuke had Haku pinned down ready to knock him out. Haku grabbed some needles from his sleeve and threw them at Naruto.
Naruto saw Sasuke reach for the knife around his ankle and throw it towards the needles. Redirecting them towards the wall instead. Haku took his chance and use the needles in his other sleeve on Sasuke, but Sasuke kicked over the coffee table and the needles got suck on the wooden surface instead. He kicked the tabled over at Haku before grabbing, what seemed to be a kusanagi taped under that table and slice and hold it right at Haku’s throat. Haku put his hands up, laughing.
“You’ve gotten weaker!”He points out.
“Still capable of kicking your ass!” Sasuke says.
“So it is like riding a bike,” Haku says, getting up. “You’re not going to kill me.”
“Try me.” Sasuke hisses.
“I mean you no harm. You attacked me first.” Haku says.
“You kidnapped my husband!” Sasuke hissed.
“I was preventing him from getting hurt by climbing through the window.” Haku says.
“I was trying to get away like you taught me,” Naruto says.
“You did good babe, not your fault. Sasuke says not breaking eye contact from Haku.
“I am not here to hurt you or your husband. He way too cute to hurt.” Haku says.
“Thanks....” Naruto says.
“Fine...Tell me the truth...And watch it. I’ll know when you’re lying.” Sasuke says.
“You haven’t changed a bit. You were always better in weapons and combat not to mention you could always lie like no one else.” Haku lowers the sword, making sure not to hurt his fingers. He sat down on the dining table, looking at Naruto.
“We were just chatting about you in highschool, were we not, Naruto dear?” Haku says. Sasuke walks over to his husband, cutting him loose.
“I was just showing him some old pictures, you remember right?” Haku says grabbing the pictures he dropped and handing them to Sasuke. He turns back to Naruto, “We always got along. We had each others back a lot. Not the best strategy when you’re thrown in a cage together with two knives.”
“How did you get these?” Sasuke askes, sitting down himself.
It was like the two did not try to kill each other a few seconds ago.
“There were two classes I was better at than you. One was stealing thing.” Haku says, “I had stole all of these back in those days. These were the little memories I wanted to keep.”
“I never thought I would ever see a picture with Itama in it...” Sasuke says looking at the third boy in the picture. His eyes softened.
“It is too bad he didn’t make it out alive...” Haku sighed and turned his head to Naruto.
“Oh god he is even more handsome up close.” Haku says, “How did a handsome man like you ever marry Sasuke.”
“Don’t answer that,” Sasuke tells Naruto.
“Hey,” Haku’s hand moved over Naruto’s arm. “There was still another class I was better at. I think you’ll will appreciate knowing that I am very good in the art of-”
“Baby, why don’t you make us some tea. Please....” Sasuke says pushing Naruto towards the kitchen.
Haku looks from Naruto to Sasuke and he gave Sasuke a kind smile.
“Always good keeping secrets...Your marriage must be suffering from it.”
“not at all-”
“A little...” Naruto interrupts Sasuke.
“But you didn’t come here to just show me some pictures, did you?” Sasuke says going back to business.
“I heard you are a detective. You could have made so much more money if you just-”
“I don’t have children so I am fine with my income.” Sasuke interrupts Haku again.
“I heard you work with Tobirama now. He was so dreamy back in boarding school. I swear if he had asked me to suck his dick, I would’ve. No question asks.” Haku looked dreamy for a moment.
“He didn’t age well.”
“Really?!” Haku looks as Sasuke see if he was lying or not, but he could not tell.
“I always thought he had a thing for you. Everytime he would look over at us in the cafeteria. It is like he blocked out everyone and just look at you.”
“Yeah I am pretty sure he was looking at Itama, him being his brother and all...”
“Oh you’re ruining my romantic story,” Haku says, “He also looked at you after Itama died.”
“Because...I carried his dead body from the forest to the gates.” Sasuke arched an eyebrow.
“Okay but riddle me this...Why when Danzo tied you up to a moving wheel as punishment. Why did the best knife throwing in the school, miss all five shots? Unless...He was protecting you. Remember, as punishment for missing you were allowed to leave the wheel and he had to stand there instead and get knives thrown at him. Isn’t that how he got the scars on his cheeks. Or how the seniors has to torture the freshman. We had to keep holding on to information and they had to learn how to get it out of us. Wasn’t he the one who had to torture you. What did he do again? There were so many good options like drowning, he could have cut you open, remove finger nails, pull your teeth out, shock you, there were so many options. I was blindfolded and made to believe a truck was going to run over my head if I didn’t give them the codes. Good thing I had forgotten the code myself because I was close to cracking. The one who lost would get two days in solitary, terrible. What did he do to you? You were the only freshman that came out of there unharmed and the only one of the five freshman of Tobirama’s that did not crack. I heard he was horrible. He got two days in the hole for you. Isn’t that romantic and now you two work together after all these years. Wouldn’t that have been so nice if you two ended up together.”
“Haku, if you’re into him...Go for it.” Sasuke says, “I am already married.”
“Right,” Haku looks over his shoulder at Naruto, “So hot. Is he the same boy you fell in love with in middle school and then your father figured it out and send you to Danzo’s school where you got traumatised for four years.”
“Yes.”
“How romantic you two found your way back to each other,” Haku says, “And now your married with children.”
“We don’t have children,” Sasuke says firmly.
“Really....Why, you make a good dad. No...You make an okay-ish dad, but I am sure he makes a good dad.” Haku looks back at Naruto, “A good daddy for real.”
“Haku....What do you want?”
“Right!” Haku says, “Full immunity...And a green card. No...Full citizenship. ”
Sasuke leans back in his chair, folding his legs.
“What ya got for me,” Sasuke says.

Tsubasa: Trainwreck Chronicles
And Why Bee Train Has Failed Me Not Only as a Company, but as a Concept in General; an Essay by Popular Demand
part 1 -- part 2
In part 1 (linked above) I spoke about the anime adaptations of the opening/introductions of our main cast through Jade and our first filler. These were episodes 1-16. Out of 26 for the season and 52 for the series. I don’t feel like my time has been wasted with pointless, endless, literally 30+ second long shots of characters staring at each other or into the distance for no reason. No. Not at all. Those moments added a lot of needed and organic tension and suspense.
Really.
But Sakura gazing longingly at a giant fish aside, we’re going to get into what is probably my most hated canon arc of the anime - Outo. Now, I loved Outo in the manga, it was an amazing world and it really kick started a lot of character and plot developments in TRC, not to mention that it was just generally a lot of fun. It was the longest world thus far and it had had the most characters in it as well. Outo was great. It’s one of my favorite worlds, right along side Piffle and fanon!Yama.
Bee Train did me dirty guys. Real dirty.
Outo:
So the animation swings wildly in this arc from “yeah that’s not so bad” to “Fai is that your hair or a giant yellow spider eating your head?” - pretty par for the course as far as the anime goes. Mostly. But then we have the changes to plot, both for the sake of the Children(tm) and... Just Because? It’s also in Outo that we start really noticing that whoever was in charge of directing the music usage was really just throwing music at the animation and hoping something stuck.
I’ll try to keep this linear but I make no promises.
We start off pretty normal - arrive, greeted by The Ladies, whisked off to City Hall. Fai gives them all their delightful Outo names while Syaoran looks on in a mild panic. They buy the cafe and get attacked - and here I have my First Issue.
For some reason, probably to make me hate them more than I already do, they change the events of the Oni attack just enough that Kurogane doesn’t grab Sakura out of the way of the ambush, iirc Fai grabs her. This might seem like nothing, but the anime has kept Kurogane and Sakura’s interactions to basically zero and if someone were to only watch the anime they would miss out on a lot of very small but meaningful moments between those two. Also, it’s important to me okay!
Morning comes and plot is still basically on track - Syaoran and Kurogane become oni hunters and Fai and Sakura open the cafe.
Now, when the family gets their costume changes, things get a little odd and the music is to blame. Sakura wakes up and goes to greet the family, who are all wearing what they’ll be sporting for the rest of Outo. As her view pans (ba-dum tss) over each of them a weird smooth jazz sort of music starts to play. I don’t know what to call it, but the tone makes it feel vaguely sexual/romantic, or at least like that’s what the intent is. Now if this had happened over Syaoran alone it probably wouldn’t have been weird, but funny. It doesn’t just happen to Syaoran though, Kurogane gets the music too (Fai is the first she sees and the music only starts playing as Sakura begins to look away). It’s a really strange music choice for this moment.
When Sakura changes into her cafe maid outfit and the boys see her it isn’t just a Sakura and Syaoran moment, which would be fine. If they weren’t playing that music again. And also Kurogane hyuus. At Sakura. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It was all very weird. I didn’t like it. Could have been just me.
Night one of oni hunting is here and so is another change that I don’t understand? Before when they added characters to the scene it was Sakura and I assumed it was them trying to give her more screen time, but Sakura is very much left out of this whole bit while Fai, who should be back at the cafe with her preparing to open up a business, is with Kurogane and Syaoran. Why? “I like to watch you at work, Kuro-sama.” (Which would have been simply amazing foreshadowing if we were ever going to so much as glance at Fai’s backstory in the anime, which we aren’t. Hell, at this point we don’t even know what it is because Celes hasn’t been published yet, so Bee Train is pulling this out of their ass. What a waste.)
Syaoran and Kurogane kill some oni, there’s very vague talk about Syaoran’s blind eye (they never outright say he’s blind in it, just that he “has trouble with it”), and we get to meet Yuzuriha and Kusanagi. Syaoran does not fawn over Inuki and I am once again personally insulted. It’s here that Kurogane learns about the names.
Fai manages to make it all the way back to the Cafe alive before Kurogane corners him. Also, even though Fai was gone all night with the puppies he still has a chocolate cake made and ready to serve to Yuzuriha and Kusanagi after they follow his and Kurogane’s immature murder trail home. Which is frankly bullshit. I know Sakura didn’t make that cake.
Syaoran and Kurogane don’t have to fight to prove their worth to the information seller, which is whatever I guess. Probably just trying to save time and budget, but that didn’t really help you now did it Bee Train?
Now, surprisingly, I actually liked the change they made to the bar scene/the fight before the bar. Fai and Kurogane don’t have their Moment in the bar, since this time they’ve missed Oruha and will have to come back. And instead of fighting on the way to the bar, the oni attack them on their way home. The song “Kaze no Machi he” plays over not only the KuroFai vs oni fight, but also sweet moments between Syaoran and Sakura in the cafe, effectively setting a very nice parallel between the two couples while still contrasting them. It’s a wonderful scene and it’s part of what makes me so extra mad at Bee Train for how they treated the whole series, because they clearly know how to do their jobs, they were just too lazy to give TRC the effort and care it deserved.
It was a really great scene and I would suggest watching just that couple of minutes, even if you don’t watch anything else from the Bee Train anime, simply because of how well it’s put together. Was it all just a happy editing accident? Maybe, but it’s one that I love.
Of course, like all things I love, Seishirou soon shows up to ruin them. This time with bad special effects.
This is of course after a pretty much canon-compliant intro to Ryuu-ou and Souma, complete with Kurogane dropping his freshly injured boyfriend on the ground in shock. Followed by pouting that I will take as a personal apology.
It’s not enough to make up for the lack of drunken shenanigans. Not even close.
Syaoran’s learned that not all of life’s problems can be solved by kicking. Sometimes you need to stab them. He asks Kurogane to teach him, but unlike in the manga where this is a sweet, if somber, moment between just the pair of them, Fai is, again, on the scene where he shouldn’t be. He’s also acting rather bitchy and tells Syaoran that if Kurogane teaches him to use a sword he needs to be ready to kill with it. Now this new dialogue is fucked up on a couple of levels.
Firstly, this is the same night Kurogane just lectured Fai about valuing his own life and admitted to killing more people than he could count in order to protect what he considered important to him. I’m sure we’re meant to read this as a type of semi-protective warning on Fai’s part towards Syaoran, but it comes off as petty at best and out right cruel at worst, to both Syaoran and Kurogane. Syaoran because he’s thirteen and he just wants to help save the love of his life who he is convinced he’ll never get back. Kurogane because he’s having this thing that’s pretty central to him at this point in his life thrown in his face with venom and treated like a danger towards his own adopted son.
Second, and big spoilers, if you’re watching this after Tokyo and Celes have been published (which at the time of the airing they were not) Fai telling Syaoran to “be prepared to kill” is fucked up. It’s clear in Tokyo that Fai has known for a while (we don’t find out how long exactly until Celes) that Syaoran is a clone. He also has known that Syaoran is a very real threat, basically a ticking time bomb. Fai would not be egging him on like this.
So, the whole exchange is very drastically changed in tone by giving Fai a small handful of lines, and in my humble onion it isn’t for the better.
Do you wanna know what is better though? The quality of these weapons compared to the everything else that’s been seen in Outo so far, and we don’t get better. The animation takes a noticeable dip from here on out. It’s especially noticeable because Bee Train has gotten into the habit of padding episodes with flashbacks and recaps of things we saw only a few episodes ago like they’re fucking Naruto and when you cut from one of the decently animated flashbacks to the current shitshow it’s really jarring.
Quality aside (for the moment) the puppies finally get their swords but before they had left, Sakura asks Syaoran about what he and Kurogane are planning to do during the day. It’s a fair question since they’re heading out early, but no oni can be hunted until night. For some reason he doesn’t tell her they’re going to get weapons? Or that he’s going to train with Kurogane? He just says “It’s nothing to worry about” and like... why?
On several levels why. First we have the whole why have Sakura ask if Syaoran’s not even going to tell her anything - maybe to add tension, as if they didn’t have enough, maybe to add angst, as if they didn’t have enough. He’s got no reason to hide this. She knows he hunts oni, telling her he’s going to better arm himself would only be a good thing, hell if he really wanted to avoid saying that he was going to get a sword he could have said that he was going with Kurogane to get one since Kurogane’s broke the night before. Second, Syaoran not answering only makes Sakura feel bad and worry more and I’ve never been so frustrated in my life. Yes, Syaoran tries to keep things from hurting Sakura but in the manga he doesn’t treat her like spun glass.
And then Mokona just tells her anyway so honestly the entire exchange was 95% meaningless and I demand to know who made these choices so I can meet them in the pit!!
Really the purpose is probably to waste time and pad the episode, but there’s enough in Outo that they really shouldn’t need to do this? But hey, what do I know? I’ve only read this series 10 times and done I can’t tell you how many analysis essays on the characters and plot. Surely some hacks who probably only glanced over the material know better.
So now Kurogane is throwing rocks at Syaoran. Not a whole lot is different for a while - we throw rocks at Syaoran, we blindfold Syaoran, we leave Syaoran all on his own to wander the city, Ryuu-ou stops Syaoran from getting his ass kicked by oni that he’s too focused on puzzling out to dodge, they flirt, they flirt so much.
Ryuu-ou takes Syaoran to see the Biggest and Prettiest cherry blossom tree in Outo, because Ryuu-ou goes big or not at all and he’s got a boy to woo.
Meanwhile, Fai has gotten a piano for the cafe that he can’t play and Sakura can speak to musical instruments, kinda. After another TouYuki cameo where they don’t recognize Sakura, Fai leaves Sakura to look after the cafe for reasons I can’t recall but that are probably dumb. Oruha shows up and she and Sakura have a Magical Musical Moment where Oruha plays the deus ex baby grand and learns all about how Sakura can’t remember Syaoran and somehow sees all the memories that Sakura can’t see/doesn’t have and folks I could not tell you what this adds to the story other than more confusion to people new to the series and frustration to people who have read the manga.
Let me break it down - Sakura doesn’t have these memories. Yuuko literally took them away as payment, they no longer exist. If they try to exist Sakura goes through a soft reset as seen earlier in this arc. Oruha should not be able to access them, super special VR powers be damned. The memories aren’t there to access. 404: Childhood Friendship not found.
This is all without touching on the creep factor of someone casually rooting around in Sakura’s head without her knowledge or permission. Hasn’t she’s lost enough autonomy?
Magic Music Memory time over, Oruha leaves and we’re spoiled and shown that Outo is VR and not actually the world we think it is, ruining both a really neat reveal and the weight of Syaoran and Fai’s “deaths” later in the arc. Do you want suspense and angst or not Bee Train?!?!
After reading some notes I had on the anime I think Fai left Sakura alone to go drinking with Kurogane because it’s now that they have their Moment in the Clover bar and finally meet Oruha (who stopped at the Cat’s Eye, sang with Sakura and read her mind, and then popped back to Clover because fuck you).
So. The dads are drinking and gathering info, the boys are flirting, and Sakura is doing what she did in Hanshin - where she enters zombie mode and autopilots towards her feather. Yuzuriha appears in the nick of time to stop Sakura from meeting Seishirou and for this I think she should receive a medal of some sort in all honesty.
As the girlfriends make their way back to Cat’s Eye Seishirou summons a Giant Deku Baba (seriously, Nintendo should look into copyright) and attacks the boyfriends. Ryuu-ou has to, once again, pull Syaoran out of harm’s way as he stands there aghast at the sudden turn of events. Things get a little too close to becoming a very uncomfortable tentacle based hentai and everyone escapes with their lives and virtue intact.
Syaoran tries to defend Seishirou’s honor because he thinks Seishirou has honor to defend, but no one is buying it. We also get a brief look at our resident Lava Lamp Dweller (who I might remind you all we never get answers about in ANY form in the anime) before we are swiftly moving along to another moment between Syaoran and Sakura where he’s pretty much lying to her face about things he doesn’t need to lie about and Sakura ought to chew him out.
Why? Why Bee Train? This is so OOC. Rewrite this fanfic.
It’s Tower of Terror time and Kurogane is Delighted about the 3% chance of survival he’s been handed. So far we’re back on track. Except we’re not.
Manga readers will remember looking back on this as one of our first Big Hints about Kurogane’s past - his hang ups about the demons leaving behind no bones or bodies of their past victims, implying that they’ve been eaten whole, and how that seemed to bother him. There’s the vaguest of hints that Kurogane still has a personal grudge with demons here in the anime, but it’s a lot less impactful and I don’t know how much meaning it would have to someone who didn’t have prior manga knowledge to fall back on. I feel like it falls a bit flat (especially once we see how Kurogane’s past has been sterilized for a younger audience).
Aside from that, the tower is more or less the same, bad hentai jokes and all.
Things also go very similarly at the cafe - Sakura works herself up into a tizzy and passes out, Fai feels the first emotion outside of Guilt and Horny he’s felt in upwards of a century, and Mokona tells him that he’s fine and that no, that’s not heartburn it’s affection.
Enter King Trashface. He’s holding the feather in some sort of weird space disco ball? Not the worst thing, just an odd choice? He and Fai exchange words (starting with Fai telling Seishirou to fuck off in the most polite way ever) - during which Fai’s animation makes it seem that the closer Fai gets to “death” the more his face distorts, which is terrible and hilarious.
Before Fai gets turned into demon chow though, Seishirou calls him out on being Mr. Deathwish, especially since Fai is fighting without using magic that could very possibly save him. At this point Fai flashes back to his and Kurogane’s “how about we don’t die” talk earlier and Fai says that he might want to live after all. Which is like. Bullshit at this point in the journey. He doesn’t want to live, he really really doesn’t and the very fact that he’s not using his magic is proof positive of that (see: Le Court). Though also, even with a bum ankle he thinks he can take Seishirou until he pulls out the feather. At which point Fai basically tells Mokona to pay attention to how he dies so she can tell the others about it. Which is so... against what he just said?
This is well before we ever see even a manga version of Fai with anything resembling self preservation or a proper will to live, but we have enough of his character for the anime writers to know that this is a very big leap for him to be taking so soon. I feel like if they wanted to give him a hopeful outlook (which is what I think they were trying to do after coming off the scene with Sakura and Mokona) they could have had him seem more wishy-washy about it, or phrased it as a curiosity. “Something I didn’t expect has happened and I wanna see where it goes” is a much better way for him to have made the same statement. At least in my opinion.
Anyway, he dies and I find his death scene really funny because you just see his legs dangling slowly and it’s so... idk it might just be me but I couldn’t stop laughing.
Now I am pretty sure Seishirou causes this but Outo starts glitching. Everything starts going full Matrix rainbows on us and all the NPCs vanish. Souma is worried about the game falling apart and Ryuu-ou and Yuzuriha are both worried about their potential love lives new friends.
Here we come to a few things I very much HATE that were changed. Once Fai is dead Sakura goes zombie again and starts to follow after her feather/Seishirou before the puppies get home, so only Mokona is there waiting. This means I have lost yet ANOTHER FATHER-DAUGHTER MOMENT!! It also means that when Syaoran runs after Seishirou and gets murderized she not only sees it happen but... dies? with? him? Because she hugs him while the game is transporting him out? I dunno. It’s bad and dumb and I hate it.
So Kurogane thinks they’re ALL DEAD, which is great. It’s not like he isn’t already having a bad enough day. Not that you could tell by looking because the animation doesn’t have him emote at all. He looks basically bored as Mokona tells them that Fai is dead while Syaoran is a step away from a full on meltdown. @beetrain you do know that Kurogane has emotions other than anger and Fight Me(tm) right?
And now Seishirou is idk posturing? Bragging? He talks about how there’s no one left to oppose him now that the 13 year olds are dead, completely ignoring the pissed off ninja murder machine that has nothing left to lose that’s coming for his sorry ass. I don’t remember him being that cocky in the manga? Am I misremembering or did the anime somehow make Seishirou even more unlikable? Either way, Kurogane finds the slimeball and, to my extreme annoyance, only asks if he killed Fai and Syaoran - not Sakura - even though he believes all of them to be dead. The anime keeps doing this and I have ranted about it so much I’ll spare you the retyping. For now.
A quick list of minor things that happen that I dislike:
Fai’s coat and Sakura’s cloak both pull random appearing and disappearing acts between episodes
No one is even a little surprised when Syaoran’s sword sets itself on fire
The pacing could kill a man. Unfortunately Seishirou lives.
My soap opera isn’t real and this is
Seishirou knows Syaoran is a clone and drops hints about something we are never getting resolution to
Oruha, after allowing Seishirou to fuck off, just, you know, tells Sakura that she has missing memories of Syaoran
Memories that she somehow was able to access even though they no longer exist within Sakura
If Yuuko says no memories she means NO MEMORIES!!!
FWR watches the demon rampage across Edonis. He’s probably reminiscing. Like an asshole.
Outo wraps up and is it the worst of the arcs? No. But am I bitter about the things that were done to it because it changed a lot of fundamental things about the characters and the plot? Yes.
See you next time, where I’ll probably talk about more than one arc. Until then, have this.

I have to give it to episode 64. Not only did we get the first half to the backstory to how Yusaku and Kusanagi met and teamed up, this episode was just hilarious in general, even during times when it was supposed to be serious but I still got a good laugh out of them for the Easter eggs and just how ridiculous some scenes were.
For example, the beginning of the episode. Takeru’s expressions to Naoki just appearing out of nowhere while Yusaku goes from “I have to deal with this on a normal bases. I’m honestly just used to it by now.” to “Boy, if you start talking sh*t, I will flat out murder you.” Then we cut to Ai flying around the city and what does Kusanagi do? He takes advantages of it and makes Ai a living advertisement. I feel like this is A.I. abuse but this is kinda what they are made to do so...you’re the one that decided to turn Yusaku’s duel disk into a helicarrier, Ai. You really should have known better if you thought that Kusanagi wasn’t going to use that to his advantage against his competition XD
Speaking of which, Takeru goes out of his way to buy Kusanagi a thank you meal from a hamburger place for saving him from Blood Shepherd only for Ai to crash land right into him and I love how Takeru and Flame’s first reaction to this is “Huh, duel disks fall from the sky here! No wonder everyone is a duelist here!” But after finding out that it was Ai, and that he upgraded Yusaku’s duel disk to be able to fly him around, Flame gets the bright idea to turn Takeru’s duel disk into a vehicle. Takeru’s reaction to that was basically mine. Thanks Ai, you gave Flame ideas. I won’t be surprised if he somehow is able to actually do that in the future. Also interesting thing to note, it looks like Takeru might still be living with his grandparents after all since Flame says that if they turn his duel disk into a vehicle, he wouldn’t need to take a train home anymore. I know Japanese schools work way differently then the ones in the U.S. so him going to a different school to improve his education greatly after slacking in it for so many years seems like a good excuse to actually go to Den City to help Yusaku but wow, I have to give Takeru so major credit. He really is going out of his way to help Yusaku since he’s going through all the trouble to what I assume is back and forth trips each day from his home town to Den City. We don’t even know how far these two places are either so that train fare can’t be cheap. Where is he even getting the money for this anyway? Well I guess his grandparents I should assume. Since he’s finally going to school again, and making friends since I’m sure he told them about Yusaku, they probably pay as much money as they can to keep Takeru happy like this after so many years of being completely shut off from the world. Just something I found neat.
And then we cut to this and I seriously just want to know what was going through Yusaku’s head when Naoki said this. Apparently murder judging by his facial expressions he made during this scene. Naoki, Yusaku already has to explain the whole Takeru situation when him and Ryoken meet back up. You really need to stop trying to make this whole thing into a love square because it seriously is never going to happen. I do like how the show is just running with the whole soulmate line now. Sure they weren’t being settle before about Naoki being super gay for Playmaker but now they are just not even trying anymore. And what did I tell you guys about the Naoki blackmailing Yusaku should he find out he was actually Playmaker? He actually would do it apparently. Does he actually know that Yusaku = Playmaker though? Hell no. I’m sure this is just going to end in another fake out just like the Go situation, which now thinking about it we never actually got an answer to that question, and Naoki is just going to pull a fast one on Yusaku and states that he knows that he is actually Playmaker’s number 1 fan or something. In which case, yep totally, Naoki. He loves Playmaker so much that he dresses up as him in his free time. You discovered Yusaku’s dirty little secret, please don’t tell anyone!
So we start getting the backstory part of the episode and wow, Jin was so messed up when he was rescued. Completely shut down. The human mind processes things differently between humans but it really is so fascinating how out of the four kids we know about, they all took in this experience differently. Like I said, Jin’s mind completely shut down, Spectre got a kick out of it and wanted more, Takeru had no drive to do anything and became depressed, and Yusaku tried to move on with his life but when that didn’t work, he sought out revenge against the people that did this to him. I just want to know who the last two kids are now just to know how they reacted to the Hanoi Project. But yeah, after realizing that Jin wasn’t going to get better, Kusanagi took it upon himself to find out what happened to his brother. In doing so, his career plans changed a lot. Apparently he wanted to be an athlete at one point, then became a hacker, and now he owns a hot truck. This guy is all over the place.
We find out that these flashbacks take place during when the Knights of Hanoi were out destroying the Cyberse cards. Revolver said it himself, when Playmaker showed up and he saw that he was using Cyberse, he was shocked by this since he thought his organization had wiped them all out but the question I have to this is just how did Link Vrains get access to the Cyberse-type in the first place? Five years before the start of the show, Ai sealed the Cyberse away and he was on the run since. We learn in the preview for 65 that Yusaku found his Cyberse deck in the ruins but in answering that question leads to even more questions. What are they doing in the ruins? Who was using them before Yusaku got his deck? The Ignises, who created the Cyberse-type, didn’t interact with humans before Revolver showed up but they were clearly in a duel disk, not just laying around on the floor. What kind of aztec stuff is this? There seriously has be a seventh Ignis, the divine one, we don’t know about yet because I don’t know how this is going to be explained otherwise. Add in Yusaku’s Link Sense and how he felt like he has done Speed Dueling before it was even a thing again...oh this is hurting my brain.
Kusanagi ends up witnessing a murder happen and is about to get murdered himself by some Knights of Hanoi goons but is saved by Playmaker...well Unknown at the time. Yusaku didn’t name Playmaker yet in these flashbacks which really makes episode 65′s title make sense. I very much want to see how that name was chosen since Playmaker is a pun of Yusaku’s name and I’m pretty sure at realizing that, Kusanagi is going to suggest the name for him. Because if you are going to be the hero that Link Vrains needs, you need something better then “unknown”. Also, I just loved how much Playmaker was just done with anyone in these flashbacks XD He just wants his revenge but instead he has to save people and beat up goons who can’t tell him anything.
So against his warnings, Kusanagi returns to Link Vrains and ends up getting into trouble, again, and Playmaker has to save his ass. Kusanagi logs out and Playmaker ends up out right destroying a Knight of Hanoi with a starter deck. Before he used Cyberse, he used the 2018, I believe, starter deck and just wow. Revolver, how bad are your henchmen if they are getting OTK by a starter deck?! Like I said, this episode was just so funny, even for serious moments like these. Also buy the new starter deck apparently. But yeah, afterwards, Playmaker gets outnumbered, even though I pretty sure he can take all of them at once, but just doesn’t because they know nothing that can help him in his quest for vengeance, and this time Kusanagi is the one to rescue him by getting him a way out and afterwards tells Playmaker to meet up with him at Cafe Nagi. And right after that, we get the real life meeting between Yusaku and Kusanagi and can I just say I love Yusaku’s outfit! I’m a sucker for hoodies, what can I say (also copying your boyfriend much, Yusaku? You and Ryoken even have similar ways to approaching others who you wish to team up with (Ryoken to Spectre and Yusaku to Kusanagi) but boy, why can’t you wear this more often or at all?! You look out right ready to shank someone and it is amazing! I also just loved the way Kusanagi convinced Yusaku to team up with him.
“If you’re the strongest spear to fight the Knights of Hanoi, I’ll be the strongest shield to protect you!” I really like this quote for some reason and perfectly sums up their partnership. What does that make Takeru then? The armor? Since time and time again, he goes out of his way to protect Yusaku from dueling Go and Blue Girl so he wouldn’t have to worry about them and out right protected him from Blood Shepherd’s trap. I think it makes sense.
And yeah, the episode ends with them agreeing to work together. Like I said before, the preview shows them working together in their first real mission to get Yusaku his Cyberse deck. Overall, I’m surprised how much I enjoyed this episode. It was just funny and the backstory was just good and gave us answers to questions we needed answers for. I hope next week’s episode is just as good and I really hope we do get a Ryoken/Revolver cameo during it because it makes sense to throw him in there just to foreshadow what Yusaku and Kusanagi have to face off against together in the future.

“To stop Dr. Kogami’s plan before it’s executed… we must defeat Playmaker, acquire the ignis and find the Cyberse World first.
“That’s why we needed Anothers as a way to capture Playmaker. Don’t blame yourself too much.
“If Playmaker is searching for the remoal program, he may eventually come to you.”
VYRA’S HOPING THAT’LL HAPPEN lmao she’s revved to kick Playmaker’s ass
Okay, back to the hotdog truck!
Were… were Yusaku and Shoichi there all night??
Yeah. Yusaku’s knocked out
Shoichi punches him in the head to wake him up
So in Link Vrains
THE KOH ARE CHASING THE GO TEDDY BEAR
WHO ARE YOU, BITCH
Okay that’s?? That’s Go’s voice
Lmaoooo HE WAS THE TEDDY BEAR
Did we guess that? Why didn’t we guess that, this bitch loves playing dress up
The KoH mook just shit his pants
GO’S CRACKING HIS KNUCKLES
“Entertain me. Speed duel!”
IT’S BEING SHOWN ON LIVE BROADCAST?!
Damnit, I love Go so mcuh?! Nobody touch me
Commentators are saying there are only “two people” folks can rely on to fight the KoH
BUT ANOTHER JUMPS IN
“NO, THERE’S ONE MORE: BLUE ANGEL.”
But she hasn’t shown up
Everybody’s hoping she will
Meanwhile, Ema’s listening to all this
Back at school folks are wondering why Blue Angel hasn’t shown up yet
AS AOI PASSES BY
She’s walking to class, when
EMA ROLLS UP ON HER MOTORCYCLE
NEARLY KNOCKS AOI OVER
Tbh I was expecting her to grab Aoi and ride off with her
Ema asks if she’s Aoi Zaize, says she wants to talk to her
BUT AOI
LIKE A SMART BEAN
IGNORES HER, KEEPS WALKING
Ema expected as much…
“I know you’re there, Blue Angel.”
THAT STOPS AOI DEAD IN HER TRACKS
SHE THINKS BACK TO WHEN THEY FIRST MET
“You’re Ghost Girl.”
YAAAAAS
They go down to the pier
Aoi wants to know wtf she wants
Ema asks if Blue Angel is done for; people are waiting for her to show up
Aoi thinks she’s exaggerating, says she fights for NO ONE
SHE FIGHTS FOR HERSELF
EMA KNOWS AND APPICIATES THIS
And agrees that, since Blue Angel was created to get Akira’s attention, she’s no longer needed
… right? Disappearing than LOSING
And it’s much better to only do things for your own sake
So screw everybody else
R i g h t ?
Ema walks off
Aoi is left DUMBSTRUCK and BAMBOOZLED
“Bye, Blue Angel. No, I mean Zaizen Aoi.”
SHE’S OFF
AOI STARES AFTER HER
… and while she’s driving
Ema? Has second thoughts?? For the first time in her life???
“Sheesh. Why do I do this?”
Back in the hotdog truck, Shoichi’s staring pensively at the computer
Yusaku walks in
Shoichi tells him he hasn’t found anything
“Oh? Is the great Kusanagi giving up?"
“I’m only getting started, idiot.” HE AFFECTIONATELY FLICKS AI OMG
“‘Idiot is a forbidden word~!” Oh yeah, Yusaku wanted him to act more like a stereotypical AI lmao
Yusaku tells Shoichi to go the fuck to sleep, he’ll handle the rest
Shoichi insists on maing Yusaku dinner first
They’re so goddamn domestic I swear
“But there are only hotdogs and chili dogs!” YOU’RE JUST MAD YOU CAN’T EAT HOTDOGS AI
“That’s not true. There are also cheese dogs and fries!” such sass, Shoichi
Okay, Aoi finally makes it home after dodging her hordes of thirsty fans
And she’s pissed that Ema just came at her sideways like that??
She catches sight of her duel disk…
BACK IN LINK VRAINS
PIDEGON IS SEARCHING FOR FROG
FROG’S DOWN BELOW
THEY’VE BEEN CALLED BACK BY THEIR BOSSES
NO BROADCASTING IN LINK VRAINS
… because apparently, young folks have been coming to Link Vrains because of the broadcasts, despite the KoH
PIDGEON REFUSES TO BELIEVE IT
FROG SCREAMS AT HIM TO STFU
PIDGEON IS OFFENDED
BUT
AW SHIT
VYRA SHOWS UP
FROG AND PIGEON HOLD EACH OTHER
SHE ASKS IF THEY KNOW WHERE PLAYMAKER IS
THEY INSIST THEY DON’T; SHE DOENS’T BELIEVE THEM
OH NO
NO
DON’T TURN THEM INTO ANOTHER
… ah, she decides to let them go
Tells them to bring Playmaker to her so she can end him
But
BUT
NOT SO FAST, BITCH
BLUE ANGEL IS HERE
AND SHE CHALLENGES VYRA TO A DUEL
“I’m in a super bad mood. I feel like beating someone, no matter who. And you just so happen to be unlucky. DAMN
Vyra thought she wasn’t coming back; Blue Angel tells her to save the lecture for someone who gives a shit
“You know more than anyone how scary computer viruses are. But you came here to get infected again.”
“WHO SAID I WAS GOING TO LOSE? And I want to forget that incident, so stop reminding me!”
“Then I’ll tell you this: you were the computer virus’s first test subject.” HOT DAMN WE WERE RIGHT
So they took data from Aoi/BA, perfected it, and made Another
THAT’S WHY VYRA WAS IN THE HOSPITAL WITH AOI
HOLY SHIT
ANOTHER HAS BEEN A THING SINCE EPISODE FUCKING S I X
“You sound like you created it. Is that true.”
“What if I say yes?”
AOI WANTS TO FUCKING TAKE A SWING AT VYRA
BUT SHE’LL SETTLE FOR CRUSHING HER IN A DUEL INSTEAD
“I take back saying I didn’t care who my opponent was. I will beat you! I’LL PAT YOU BACK MANY TIMES OVER.”
YAS GIRL SLAY
“Okay. I’ll take responsibility for what I did.”
“I hate those words.”
FROG AND PIDEON REV UP THEIR CAMERAS
PIDEON IS SO HAPPY HIS STRONG AND POWERFUL SENPAI IS BACK
IF I DIDN’T SHIP THESE TWO BEFORE, I FUCKING DO NOW
BLUE ANGEL’S THEME IS PLAYING
THE DUEL IS BEING LIVESTREAMED
THE PUBLIC IS WATCHING
OUR BOYS IN THE HOTDOG TRUCK ARE WATCHING
YUSAKU DOESN’T EVEN LOOK WORRIED LMAO HE KNOWS HIS GIRL HAS THIS
… back at SOL
Akira’s leaving for the day
“Blue Angel has returned to Link Vrains!”
HE TURNS BACK AROUND
ASKS HAYAMI IF HE CAN SEE WHAT SHE’S LOOKING AT
AKIRA LOOKS READY TO SCREAM, AOI’S BACK TO HER OLD SHENANIGANS AGAIN
And! Hayami knows Blue Angel is his sister?? SHE THINKS SHE’S FUCKING INCREDIBLE???
Akira, in his infinite intelligence, still doesn’t get why she’s doing this
Anyea, KICK HER ASS BLUE ANGEL
VYRA ACTIVATES THE DUEL GALE
AOI FALLS??
BUT NAH, SHE’S GOOD
SHE SEES THREE LITTLE KIDS CHEERING HER ON
WHAT
WHY ARE THOSE LITTLE MUNCHKINS THERE, THAT’S RIDICULOUS
THE DUEL IS ON
GET SET TO GET REKT, VYRA
BLUE ANGEL TAKES FIRST TURN
ACTIVATES A FIELD SPELL
ADDS ONE MONSTER TO HER HAND
SPECIAL SUMMONS IT, A 800 ATK MONSTER
AND SHE NORMAL SUMMONS ANOTHER AT 100 ATK
SHE LINK SUMMONS THEM
YAAAS IT’S HOLLY ANGEL
SHE BRINGS HER MONSTER BACK OUT, AT 0 DEF
DEALS 200 LP IN DAMAGE TO VYRA
AND BECAUSE OF HER FIELD SPELL, DEALS 200 MORE
VYRA IS NOW AT 3600 LP
“I was screaming from the bottomless darkness during that incident.”
Oh. My god.
Was Aoi conscious, just trapped in her body?
“While I felt like I was going to be crushed by heavy sadness, fear, and despair… I kept screaming with all my might. A sorrowful scream that no one could hear.”
AOI NO
“Many people who’ve been turned into Anothers are enduring the same pain. I’ll never forgive you!"
SHE SETS A FACEDOWN AND ENDS HER TURN
“I’ll show you why i love Trickstars until it makes you sick!”
“… you don’t know anything.”
THE FUCK IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN
“Your deck is too popular now. You think I didn’t have a counterstrategy?”
AW SHE SHE STUDIES BLUE ANGEL’S PLAYING STYLE
VYRA TAKES HER TURN
SHE SPECIAL SUMMONS A MONSTER FROM HER HAND AT 700 ATK
DESTROY’S AOIU’S FIELD SPELL
NORMAL SUMMONS ANOTHE OF THE SAME MONSTER
SETS A FACEDWON
ACTIVATES A SPELL
IT ALLOWS HER TO ACTIVATE HER OWN TRAP
IT’S A VIRUS
RELEASES ONE OF HER MONSTERS
AND FOR THE NEXT THREE TURNS
MONSTERS WITH 2000 OR BELOW DEF HAVE THEIR EFFECTS NEGATED
… AND THEIR ATK BECOMES 0?!
LINK MONSTERS DON’T HAVE DEF, SO HOLLY ANGEL ISN’T EFFECTED
VYRA KNEW THAT SHIT
SHE TRIBUTES HER OTHER MONSTER TO ACTIVATE A SPELL
SUMMONS THREE 0 DEF TOKENS
SHE LINK SUMMONS
IT’S A 2400 ATK LINK MONSTER
GOES IN FOR THE ATTACK AGAINST HOLLY ANGEL
BLUE ANGEL ACTIVATES HER TRAP
SENDS HER OTHER MONSTER TO THE GRAVE
AND IT PROTECTS HOLLY ANGEL
“BUT YOU STILL TAKE DAMAGE” BUT OF COURSE
BLUE ANGEL IS DOWN TO 3600 LP
FALLS OFF HER BOARD
VYRA ENDS HER TURN
BLUE ANGEL BREAKS OUT HER WHIP, GETS HERSELF BACK ON THAT D BOARD
“THE BATTLE IS ONLY GETTING STARTED.”
“The true terror is yet to come. You’ll feel all of it, Blue Angel."

Shaking in My Skull [Ch. 9]
Pairing: Fushimi Saruhiko/Yata Misaki
Rating: T
Summary: Stuck on the plane between life and death, Saruhiko makes the decision to risk everything, forced to find faith in himself and the headstrong Yata Misaki as they both face unimaginable demons.
Note: The last update will come tomorrow! Big thanks to @emeraldwaves for reading this over <3
Ao3 Version
8tracks
The first thing Yata had done was cry, in fact sometimes he still did.
Standing there on the bridge, back to life, taking in all the forgotten sounds and smells of the world, he'd cried.
He could feel Saruhiko on his skin, his palm in his hand, but he wasn't there. The warmth, the connection, it had been severed so harshly, and all Yata could do was run from the bridge, barging into his modest apartment and collapsing again at the sight of his unfinished canvases and projects. The tears seemed never ending on the first night.
He felt awful and light all at once, because yes, it's all here, I'm back, but Saruhiko was not. Somewhere else in the city, his friends were getting the news of his passing, were dealing with the grief Yata had barely caught a glimpse of. He knew their pain now. Losing Saruhiko, caring about him so much...
But how would he be able to explain that to them? He couldn't. As far as anyone else knew, he and Saruhiko were strangers. It was like a roundhouse kick to the stomach.
As if the universe was adding salt to his wound, his phone had pinged shortly after he'd arrived home.
Kusanagi: Yata, the dinner tomorrow is cancelled. I can't talk now but, Seri's friend was in an accident. He didn't make it. I'll talk to you and the boys more when I can.
Didn't make it. Yeah, you have no idea. Somehow, hearing someone else tell him made him feel so much more helpless. He couldn't imagine how Saruhiko felt, and wished he could comfort him in any shape or form.
But it wasn't possible. They were separated now, would be for the rest of time. It wasn't fair.
Saruhiko, he'd done so much, tried so hard.
"Fuck that," Yata whispered into the silence of his apartment, hating how dull the colors of his paintings seemed now, how generic the images. They weren't what he felt at all, didn't even come close to capturing true fear, true desperation or longing.
Adoration.
Yata swallowed the bile in his throat, dragging himself to his crappy bed, and refusing to take note of how it was so much better than rocks and dirt. It didn't feel right.
He fell asleep easily, exhausted and fed up, but his sleep was restless, plagued by visions of trials and Saruhiko. He'd holed himself up for three days, staring at the ceiling and deciding what to do next.
That was the only thing he could do, move on. Move forward. It was what he'd promised himself he'd do, at the very beginning of his journey. To back down now would be an insult to everything he and Saruhiko had gone through. He wouldn't let the other down.
So, on the fourth day, he'd picked himself up out of bed, and made way into his living room, tossing out a good portion of his paintings. They didn't feel like him anymore. His fingers itched to dig into his paints, to expel his emotions into true representations of himself, but he had to wait. There were other things he had yet to do before he got lost in his work.
Yata hadn't been ready to face the guys right away, as much as he'd missed them. He needed time to adjust, to reign in his emotions. He turned down their invites to movies and dinners, and no one questioned it much, since everyone was more concerned with Kusanagi's situation. Yata didn't think he'd be able to stomach it, having everyone offering condolences, while Yata knew how hard Saruhiko had tried to come back.
Avoiding Kusanagi himself was fairly easy. He was busy pushing back wedding plans, and comforting his fiancé. Yata almost felt guilty, but in the face of everything else, it was the least of his worries. He was of no use to his friend anyways until he got himself together. Once he did that, he'd offer all the help in the world.
Slowly, he was picking himself up.
At the end of the second week, he finally did what he'd always wanted to, ever since reciting the contract in the afterlife.
He went to see his mom.
--
He heard a muffled 'be right there!' through the door, and the light scurry of footsteps before his mother appeared in front of him, fiery eyes catching in the warm sunlight of the day. Her calm expression quickly morphed into one of confusion, then surprise, before finally settling on immense, blinding joy. It was then that Yata broke, and it all hit him again—just when he thought he could handle this. How had he been away for so long?
He fell into her arms in the entryway of the house, barely managing to sob out an apology as she yelped in shock. She smelled like detergent and fresh spices, evoking the memories of his childhood which he'd neglected for so long. He'd missed her, he'd missed her so much.
"M-Misaki! What are yo--"
"I missed you mom, I'm...so much has...I'm sorry, I," he choked the words out, snuggling further into her, like he'd done as a kid, sure his mom could protect him from all the world's real problems. "I n-needed to come home."
She stiffened for but a moment before her muscles relaxed, her arms coming up without question to cradle him tightly.
In that moment, it had all been worth it. All the struggle and all the nightmares, all for this. All for his mother smoothing her hands over his back, and whispering sweetly until he calmed down.
Yata lost track of how many times he apologized for not visiting more, for not coming back, for not calling, and all the while she listened, silent until he was all talked out and drained from crying.
Of course she'd be upset that he was barely apologizing now, how could she not? He'd been away for so long, seldom reached out to her despite all she'd done for him. He deserved any harsh words she had to offer, and coldness or resentment. He knew it was her right, but he'd make it up to her in whatever way he could, he'd--
She chuckled, kissing his forehead as if nothing had changed, and Yata's breath caught in his throat as she said the words he'd been longing to hear, shattering the last of his guilt. "Oh Misaki, there is nothing to forgive," she whispered, voice giving away her beaming smile. "You can always come home."
And really, if only for that second, he felt invincible again, though his voice was barely a whisper. "I will Mom, I promise."
Though he couldn't do much more other than return her hug in a vice grip, somewhere in the back of his mind, Yata resolved to tell her everything someday, about Saruhiko, about all he'd endured.
But for now he kept her close, and eagerly awaited the sound of footsteps as his siblings emerged from their rooms, welcoming him home for by no means the last time.
--
By the end of the second month, he was picking himself up more and more. It had taken a lot for him to realize it, but of course, though Saruhiko was gone, Yata knew not all was lost.
His gallery showing was moved until a later date, the owners being sympathetic to his explanation of a loved one passing, and it gave him more time to focus on creating new works which satisfied him. There was no rush now, the owners had liked him so much in person, they'd given him the green light to contact him whenever he was ready.
It was nice, not working under a time restriction. The paintings which remained from before his time in the afterlife he'd decided to sell, and they'd gotten him enough to get by for a while, along with money from his part time job.
Yata saw his friends as much as possible, never stopped letting them know how much he appreciated them. They made fun of him now for being too sentimental, but oh well. He helped Kusanagi too, though it was hard, and after so many months, the wedding planning was back on. Meeting Saruhiko's friends...had been devastating, but he'd controlled himself throughout the dinner, allowing himself to cry when he was back home alone.
They seemed to be doing alright, but he could see the notable emptiness in their eyes, because it was the same kind he felt, deep in his soul.
Nevertheless, things moved on, and he never stopped thinking of Saruhiko, with each new endeavor. He was taking it slow, readjusting to life, and for once, it felt amazing. But the empty spot in his life would remain forever, one he couldn't fill, where someone else should've been.
Replacing Saruhiko was impossible too, that much he knew.
Despite the missing piece, Yata was happy. He was doing well, better than ever. His paintings, the ones which he worked on in his free time, hadn't suffered along with his heart. If anything, he was finally pleased with them, no matter how somber some of them turned out. Yata had learned more about himself on the journey than he ever felt possible, and now he could communicate that while doing what he loved. He also found himself painting a lot of night landscapes, abstract shapes with shadows and rich blues, all his secret tributes to Saruhiko.
Sometimes it got to be too much, painting with the other in mind. Yata missed him, wanted to kiss and hold him, and the yearning would tear him apart at times. On a particularly bad night, he'd nearly tossed all shades of blue in the garbage, his heart aching.
But no, Saruhiko was alive in his work, and it was everything to Yata, that last thread which linked them together. So he continued, creating art inspired by his family and friends, as well as the one he'd hold dear until the end of time.
Sometimes, he wondered if Saruhiko would like his pieces, if he'd be able to recognize the overwhelming love behind them. The sketches of the taller, all fine boned and charcoal, he kept hidden in a drawer, only to be seen by his eyes. Nothing beat looking at the original though.
Yes, he'd put himself back together nicely, he was happy with the direction he was going in, knew it would all work out. In a way he was thankful for the Return, without it, he didn't know if he'd appreciate everything as he did now. That being said, he'd never want to do it again, nor would he wish it on someone else. It was simply too cruel, with a near perfect guarantee of failure. He still dreamt of it, woke up drenched in sweat and breathing harshly. How he'd managed to make it out, he didn't know. But he had. He had come through, beaten the odds.
And yet, Yata would've given anything to have Saruhiko back with him.
--
Six months later, and this would be the last time he would be here. Yata stood on the freshly mowed grass, staring at the stone with fresh orchids laid down in front of it.
Sapphire, like his eyes.
He kicked at the dirt, willing his heart to calm down.
Initially, he'd made a habit of visiting the other's grave site, making sure none of Saruhiko's friends would be there and question him. They didn't know each other after all. What a damn joke.
Yata laughed to himself. It had seemed like a good idea at the start; Yata had hoped it would make him feel closer to the other, in some way, being there where Saruhiko was buried.
But visiting Saruhiko's grave hadn't felt right, seemed heavier and heavier with each occasion. Because he knew it meant nothing, Saruhiko couldn't see him, couldn't hear him. Nothing was below the dirt except the shell of the one who'd risked his life with Yata, who Yata had protected and come to love.
Standing there, in front of his boring tombstone, was not something Saruhiko would've wanted.
And so, Yata decided to stop. After today, he would never come back.
He would carry Saruhiko with him instead, no matter how painful the ache, and hoped that Saruhiko would think of him too as he sat in hell, alone. Maybe it would help to get him through it, until Yata could see him again. Yata would give up heaven, if it meant being with the other again at the end of his life. Regardless of if he'd suffer, he would forfeit.
Part of him knew Saruhiko wouldn't care for that either, would probably call him impulsive and unthinking, and it made Yata smile more than anything.
The tears stung, but he kept them behind his eyes. It was time to go. No more crying.
However, as all the noble thoughts crossed his mind, he couldn't help but feel something uncertain in the air around him, as if the fading landscape of the cemetery knew something he did not.
--
The swirling wind, no matter how eerie, was somewhat of a comfort now.
Or, perhaps it was to be a sound of mockery, the last thing he heard before...
Saruhiko took one more step, all he could manage, and then he was falling to his knees, his soles worn and muscles giving out. That was to say nothing of the broken bones he was undoubtedly sporting.
This, this was what he had been avoiding. For him to succumb to exhaustion, for him to be lesser. Sand hit his face, and as much as it stung, it kept him awake. For how long, he wasn't sure.
Dammit, he thought weakly, the energy behind any form of frustration having left him long ago.
Long ago...
As if to emphasize the observation, he dug his gnarled fingers into the sand below him, eyes peering around the vastness of the final stretch of the journey. Unless it was all a cruel joke, then he had done it, hadn't he? He nearly whimpered from the possibility that he hadn't. But..from the looks of it...
He was at the end again, the gate was...where was...
Saruhiko's eyes were painful to blink, so dried out and strained, he wondered how much longer he could keep them open. How much longer until he was blind...
The glasses he'd been given, well, they'd fallen off some time ago, in the midst of the second trial...possibly...he couldn't remember. But he remembered screeches of something, blended with the feelings of being buried alive and...and...
He shuddered, the dates and times running through his head. Nagare...
Slowly, he began to crawl forward, the voices still pestering him of the things he wouldn't be allowed to forget. He missed Misaki's arms around him so much in that moment.
It had all been too much, more than the first time, or so it seemed. Maybe it was because he was alone this time. His lungs protested from all the running, from the fumes of smoke and dirt, each breath a wheeze as he struggled to move. The initial trial had been both physical and mental, a maze of iron and mist, each dead end joined with a memory of his life, of a mistake or moment he’d taken for granted. How he’d made it out of that one, he wasn’t sure.
If he thought the whispers were bad the first time, it was nothing compared to that maze, the noises deafening and inflicted twice as painfully, because they were extracted right from his memories, taking advantage of the things he now allowed himself to feel.
The second trial, after he’d wandered aimlessly from the first, made him fucking swim. He had to swim through what appeared to be a never-ending sea, a sword by his side (a pity gift from Munakata once more), facing creatures which made the graveyard beast look tame. But honestly, it wasn’t the most grueling part, no, moving…swimming was hardest. Saruhiko had learned to perform the task some time ago, but he was never proficient at it, more like a child with his weak strokes and poor breathing. Water invaded his lungs more times than he could count during the challenge, the release of death never coming, because he was already lost in the afterlife. When he dared to breach the surface of the water for air, he was dragged back down by the beasts, his respite never fulfilling. It was like that, all the way until he reached the entrance to Nagare’s caves.
He was exhausted.
Maybe if he just sat still for a while, if he could rest for but a second...
He lurched himself forward, muffling his shout as his body protested, the dried blood making the movements stiffer.
No, don't you dare stop.
He bit his lip something fierce, willing himself forward at a snail’s pace, but moving regardless. Don't stop.
That was the trap, wasn't it? He understood it now, why so many had fallen right before reaching the end. It took its toll on the individual, with no one there to motivate them, at least...no one in their right mind. How on earth had he and Misaki managed it? Making it so far, keeping sane while doing it? Having enough energy to walk upright? His mind spun with visions of mockery and whispers which he couldn't distinguish from his imagination or reality, flashes of memories and the surges of doubt which had finally come back to deplete his strength.
Right at the end. Right where it counted most.
Keep going. Don't think about useless things.
Though it was hard not to, wasn't it? A perfectly practical reaction. If he failed here...to do it again a third time...it was unthinkable. Yet, he'd probably do it. He'd been such a fool, taking up the challenge knowing what it entailed, but he didn't find himself regretting it. Though, it was obvious everyone else had done the pitiful thinking for him this time...
Totsuka's face had been solemn, but not surprised. Saruhiko had been greeted amicably, but he didn't have any questions for the other man this time around. He knew what to do, what he needed to do. Totsuka had led him silently, with purpose, and the last thing he'd given Saruhiko was a cryptic smile and a nod of respect, bright eyes sad with something Saruhiko couldn't pinpoint. And then once again, he was gone, and his air of solidarity which Saruhiko didn't know what to do with was the only thing left of him.
Time slipped away after that. He had no way of knowing how long he'd been going, just that it might as well have been eternity.
By the time the caves had opened up to him, after ages of traveling and strife, he hadn't bothered going to see Douhan. He figured there was no point, seeing her green eyes light up in either surprise or skepticism. Perhaps part of him wanted to keep his endeavor private, the guilt of failure sitting heavy on his shoulders. But it hadn't mattered, she'd been waiting for him instead, seated upon a rock with a familiar bird.
No words were spoken, but he more or less appreciated it when she reached up into her hair and untangled her bow, which he finally noted was made of a gray and golden fleece, expensive...
She tied it around his hand, which had a nasty looking gash across it, and made sure it held. Then, a curt bow, and he was being led away, watching her disappear as he followed the soft beat of wings.
It only took him a few moments of remembering her fond stare as she tended to the wound, to realize it was her significant item. And she'd given it away, so easily.
In his head, he made a note to return it to her, sometime far in the future.
By then his mind was fragile enough, the beatings he'd taken were excruciating, and yet he took no relief in knowing the most physical trials were over. There were worse things. And well, when it had finally come to Nagare once more, the theory had proved true.
Nagare's eyes had reflected displeasure along with conflict, but this time, he hadn't been alone.
"Dang, you sure are stupid huh?" The child's pale, messy hair obscured his eyes, unhindered by the two white clips fastened to the side of it. His light green eyes reflected confusion and annoyance, his skin and posture the very essence of youthfulness as he criticized Saruhiko. "Doing this again, you're making it harder for--"
"Gojo, thank you for your help, but I don't think words will have much effect on Fushimi-san at this point," Nagare interrupted fondly, and the boy blinked at him in confusion. "I'm sorry, but would you excuse us? You should calm Yukari down anyways, wherever he is."
The respect and patience Nagare gave the other was mildly astonishing, but by then, Saruhiko was too weak for such observations, who these other people were...he wasn't even upset with the boy's childish quips.
If he lost sight of what he wanted now, even for a moment, it would come crumbling down again. Nagare seemed to realize it too, and while the other boy in the room was disgruntled at not getting an answer out of Saruhiko, he did as asked, and left them, mild worry etched on his face.
The air plummeted quickly after, and Nagare wasted no time in breaching the icy divide. He knew this was Saruhiko's toughest challenge, facing change, risking it. But he had to, had to. Except this time...
Now he--
Saruhiko coughed, bloodied spit mixing into the sand as he fought off a sob at the memory. And yet, he continued to crawl as it played, because he had no choice. He wouldn't forget, no matter how badly he wanted to. It was his test.
He didn't miss the uncharacteristic pity laced in Nagare's eyes, as if he was actually fucking apologetic for what he was about to do. But it was there and gone in a second, and it was back to business.
"Fushimi, you know I can't give you the same question again, you already know the test behind it," Nagare had sighed, shoulders slumping. Saruhiko blinked, nothing more. Tired, so tired. He hadn't expected less anyhow. Of course Nagare's usual test was now futile to him, with his arrogant need to attempt the journey again. Ha, arrogant. Surely though, they had to know it was desperation more than anything else.
"I've been waiting for you, thinking about it, discussing it with my companions, trying to figure out the best way," Nagare explained uselessly, and Saruhiko picked up nothing he cared for in the words. "And--"
"Just do what you have to do." Saruhiko didn't recognize his own voice, it was dull and hoarse, and the tone of impatience was enough to make Nagare frown, face relaxing in reluctant acceptance.
Saruhiko wasn't ready for what would surely be the hardest thing he had to face, since Nagare's trial had proven to be the most difficult in the past, but there was no use putting it on hold.
He needed to do this. Everyone was waiting for him. He wouldn't disappoint again.
Nagare sighed, scanning over Saruhiko's dejected form, before he nodded.
"Very well."
Saruhiko had moved a good distance, on his hands and knees alone, but his muscles were starting to give again. It was only a matter of time before he was forced on his stomach, and yet such fast approaching matters weren't on his mind. Instead they were like a mantra, the dates.
June 13th.
October 4th.
January 2nd.
The years, he refused to acknowledge any of them, even the favorable ones. All the while Nagare's voice was mixed in.
"Your test will be fitting to you, and I'm afraid it’s not a trick. What you are about to know and see is the truth," Nagare went on, sliding up to Saruhiko until the other could see flashes of green sparking around them.
Saruhiko felt his stomach drop at the words, but he wasn't given time to ask his questions before it began. He shook his head, and it was like he'd been transported somewhere else, a nightmare really, and he knew a lot about those. The visions assaulted him full force, some bittersweet or kind, others entirely unfair. He wished he'd seen none of it, but something wouldn't let him look away. It hurt more than the fractures and cuts, more than failure.
Excusing Nagare for this would be close to impossible.
He didn't have to ask what the visions were of, he knew, the tears which had finally been expelled from his eyes showed that he knew, but Nagare decided to inform him anyways, as if things weren't clear enough.
"These are the deaths of those you hold dear, along with when they will occur and the circumstances. It is possible they might change their own outcomes in some way, but these are almost as good as final. Do forgive me," Nagare said, voice remaining level. "Your test is carrying them with you, knowing when and how they happen. You are not allowed to stop them, or to warn your loved ones in any way. Should you do so, I will make it so you are brought back immediately.
Saruhiko was hyperventilating, the sounds and voices, the emotions the scenes evoked...it was all too much.
He knew now, how Seri...the guys...
He was stuck with the knowledge forever, unable to use it, and suddenly he regretted it so much more, failing Nagare's test the first time around.
"Do I make myself clear?"
It took what was probably equivalent to hours for Saruhiko to pick himself up from that well enough for him to process the words, the implications. To back down here....was out of the question. It didn't change his desire to throw up.
The trial, more like the punishment, might as well have been the straw that broke the camel's back for him, but he had to keep going regardless.
If he wanted to see them, to make the most of the time he had left...
Saruhiko would endure it for all of time, until each date of death passed, and he saw them all again in the afterlife. After all, there was always another way right? He'd yet to succeed with it sure, but knowing there truly was no such thing as goodbye...
Saruhiko dry heaved weakly one last time, straightening his back to finally meet Nagare's stern gaze.
No such thing...
"Crystal."
The gate was there, just ahead. Or at least, a huge block shaped blur was. So close, but too far away. He pushed himself more, the dates jolting his brain along with each lurch forward, the pain from his body blending with the pain in his heart, the longing, and he felt the last of his hope begin to dwindle.
His plan was crumbling, his resolve along with it, just as he'd predicted.
No.
In a fit of anguish, he put weight back on the heels of his feet, yelling at the pressure, and kicked forward, towards the mass in the distance.
Don't fall asleep, don't stop.
His mind was a battleground as always though, and with each encouragement came an equal sized surge of doubt.
You can't do this. You'll have to try again. You can barely move, stop being unreasonable. This is useless. Why did you think you could do this?
Why had he?
Because he wanted to be with his friends, with his Misaki, at home, in his bed, staying up too late on his laptop and drinking cheap coffee. He wanted all of it, still did.
Though, perhaps it wasn't going to be enough this time either.
After everything, it was going to fall apart...
Disappointment...guilt...
He raised his fist weakly, slamming it into the sand.
But the gate was right there, almost directly in front of him, or was he imagining things?
If he could just reach...
Try harder. You have to. But how much more? What else did he have left to give? His palms scratched against the floor, finding no purchase in the flimsy sand as they struggled to pull his whole weight forward. The strength to crawl was nearly gone, the last option he'd had after his legs had caved from all the running and beatings, slipping away. He could do nothing about it, as close as he was. And again, he found himself hoping, because that's what Misaki had taught him to do. Hope.
Almost. Always almost. Almost there.
The wind shrieked around him, his vision blanking out rapidly from the force of it, until the marble gate was more and more of a blur. If he didn't know any better, he'd say it was getting farther and farther away, evading him for eternity. Maybe that would be his true hell, so close to what he wanted, but never reaching it. It would be fitting, wouldn't it? No Misaki, none of the life he'd come to desire, just the loneliness of the Return, the journey he could not complete, neither the first nor the second time around.
So why was he still trying to move? Why put himself through it? How did he even know that the end of this, should he make it, would be what he expected?
Misaki's voice answered the question for him, all the way back from the beginning.
"You don't, but, wouldn't you give anything just to see?"
Ah, right.
At the time, he'd found the response, childish, stupid even, blind as he was. Now though, it pushed him forward, and gave him the solution to every question his mind dared to pose in opposition.
Why put himself through this? Simple, he had nothing more to lose, and everything to gain. For instance, his home, despite it being nothing more than a poorly decorated apartment; it didn't matter if it looked empty, because it seldom was. It was usually filled with voices, Seri and the guys, not mourning or crying, but laughing and getting too worked up over board games and movies. Then there was Seri herself, with her over the top wedding planning and support of his endeavors. He had the accomplishment he felt upon completing a difficult project at work, and really, he had his general state of existence, one he'd never thought he could miss. And lastly was Misaki, not alone, but with Saruhiko by his side, being held and kissed by the redhead and seeing the warmth in his eyes...
That's what Saruhiko had to gain, those moments and so many others. So he'd do it, this journey, again and again. Three times or twenty, until he either completely lost his mind or finally stained the marble with his blood soaked palm.
All he had to do was touch the surface...
He reached out, ignoring how distant the barrier appeared. He didn't want to trust his eyes anymore, they hardly worked anyhow, after all the strain. Saruhiko's body trembled violently from the extra movement, elbows giving out completely and leaving him lying in the dirt, hand extended pathetically. It was probably over, his muscles had ceased to listen, weighed down with exhaustion and injury, and his mind wasn't far behind. Even his hand, so determined to make contact, was gnarled from the previous trial.
But still he reached, felt his joints protest, and then reached farther. One of the last things his eyes were able to process was the shining white blur of the gate, and he wondered how close it truly was. His fingers slid against something sleek, maybe a flurry of sand which had been swirled up by the strong gusts of wind, and his hand finally dropped. It was useless, bruised and twitching in front of him. He had nothing left in him.
Saruhiko had failed. Again. Two rounds of trials, of self-doubt and fear, and for what? He'd fallen short once more. The longer he was here, the longer everyone he knew grieved and coped without him. The longer he missed their presence.
To think he'd come to have no issue admitting it, after so many years of denying it at every turn. Yet even with that driving him, it hadn't been enough.
Well, he would just have to try harder the next time, wouldn't he?
When the time came, he'd make sure. He'd be enough, for once.
His body didn't have the strength to sob, but the wind would've drowned it out anyways, howling as dirt whipped at his skin. Saruhiko's eyes were finally failing him, and the final thing he saw was a flash of darkness, and a brief slit of light, before it was all lost, his last thoughts never reaching his lips.
I'm sorry, Misaki.
I'm sorry, everyone.
Then there was silence.
.
.
.
.
"Fushimi Saruhiko. Age twenty, born on November 7th."
A voice, one he couldn't understand.
"Returned on the evening of August 14th."
And then, there was nothing.

Summary for Chapter 3: Ha ha Misaki is a little angry that his friends keep joking with him about Saru while Saru is still uncomfortable with Mikoto. Eric gets his tattoo finally.
Notes: I've just realized I've been using USDs opposed to yen. Sorry ‘bout that. Edit: I’ve fixed most mistakes [currency, names, and some grammer] but not all versions [archive, this page, and original posting] are updated correctly. Please send me a message or ask telling me what needs to be fixed. Thank you :D
Yata angrily kicked the oven door shut. What’s wrong with everyone?! Do they have to spoil everything for me? Just because I think he’s… hot doesn’t mean they have to tell him everything! He plopped down in a chair and watched the oven, not taking his apron off.
“Misaki?”
“What?” he huffed, not moving his eyes away from the oven. He was still angry, but he could tell that it was Saru talking.
“You wanted to talk, so let’s talk.” The artist grabbed a chair and pulled it over to Yata. He sat down with a soft thump.
Yata shrugged, his mood still sour. “Fine. Like I said earlier, I noticed that you don’t have any tattoos.”
Saruhiko’s wrist invaded his vision. A small black outline was printed on it. “What’s that?” Yata tilted his head a little and realized it was a monkey. A small fit out laughter erupted from him. “A monkey. A saru.” He laughed again, then stopped, remembering how Saruhiko had called his father an asshole for the name.
“Tsk. I was forced to get this.” Saru slipped the arm band back over the tattoo.
“I’m sorry,” Yata said softly, honestly ashamed for laughing at him. The gang member had already forgotten about his bitterness towards his friends… was it because Saru was here with him?
Yata watched as the taller man shrugged and crossed his arms. “So?” Saruhiko prompted him to say something.
The skater glanced around for a topic and saw the muffins baking in the oven. “You like muffins?”
“No.”
“Well…. Try mine!” Yata watched him. “I made plain because I didn’t know what you like.”
Saru nodded. “Maybe I’ll try a bite….” he muttered softly.
“Okay!” Yata smiled. “You like it here?”
“It's….. nice, I guess.” Saruhiko shifted a little in his seat so he could sit cross-legged.
“That’s good.” Bing!
Yata jumped up from his seat and brought out the muffins.
Fushimi sat off to the side as he watched Misaki show off his aura. The artist sighed and nibbled on one of Misaki’s muffins—his 10th one, since Misaki wouldn’t stop making them. “So. Fushimi.” Fushimi looked up to see Kusanagi, the only person in the bar that really seemed responsible.
“Yes?” Fushimi took another little bite out of the muffin, finishing it off.
“How’s your business going? Have you heard of Kuroh Yatogami’s shop?” The bartender leaned against the counter, cleaning off an glass with a cloth.
Fushimi shrugged. “I’ve heard of him in passing.”
“He’s the usual guy we go to. Everyone here but Yata goes to him.”
“Why didn’t Yata go to him?” The younger man was actually curious.
Kusanagi shrugged. “I tried to ask him about it, but he kept his mouth shut for once.”
Fushimi glanced at the kid in question. A red aura surrounded him. Misaki pumped a fist in the air and yelled that it was the first time that the aura hadn’t gone out on its own. Mikoto replied that it was because of the increased amount of emotion for him to feed off of. Fushimi clicked his tongue. “I was wondering…. Has he always been this hyper and excited?”
Kusanagi thought for a moment before answering. “No. He doesn’t usually get this hyped up about something. I mean, yes, he gets excited occasionally, but never about something this particular. He started acting like this…. a week ago, to be exact. Yata-chan kept on saying that he wanted a tattoo from a certain artist. I’m assuming that’s you.” The bartender put a glass on the counter. “What do you want? I’ll give it to you free.”
Fushimi shrugged. “Anything not too strong.” He watched as Kusanagi started to make him a drink. “I’ve never seen him before last night. It surprised me how determined he was to get one.” The artist glanced back at Misaki for a moment, then noted that it was getting darker outside. He had lost the track of time.
Kusanagi nodded and put the drink in front of him as Misaki bounced over. “Saru! Did you see that?”
“Yeah. It was cool.” Fushimi didn’t mean it, but Misaki’s bright smile was enough to make it true.
“Thanks.” He noticed the glass. “Why does he get two without pay?”
The bartender looked at him. “Actually, you paid for the first one, I got the second one.”
“When did I say I would be paying for it?” Misaki sat down in the barstool, a confused look on his face.
“Last night, before we nearly stifled you with a pillow.”
The skater blushed. “I didn’t realize I said that.”
“Well you did, so I get a free drink from you.” Fushimi took a sip out of his teasingly.
Misaki gave him a soft glare. “It’s not like I can pay for it.”
The artist looked at him. “Why not?”
“I have just enough to get by before my next pay,” Misaki said sheepishly, ashamed that he didn’t have the money.
“Not my fault,” the taller man muttered. “You wanted that tattoo when you wanted it.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” he snapped.
“Let’s see…” Fushimi started to list things off. “You didn’t come in with an appointment, you didn’t have an ID, which meant I had to do extra work by messing with your PDAWatch, you demanded that I give you the tattoo, you carelessly plopped down in my chair, you—”
“Alright! I get it.” Misaki crossed his arms with a pout. “Is there any other way I could pay you? Like you give the money back for extra fees and I do something for you?”
Fushimi thought for a moment, then nodded. “Fine. You have to do at least 200 dollars worth of quality tasks. You can’t just give me 200 candy bars.”
Misaki brought his watch closer to Fushimi, who took his PDA out. They did a quick transfer before putting them away.
“Misaki.” A light voice sounded from behind them. Both of them turned around to see Mikoto standing there, Anna sitting on his shoulder. “Make sure you walk your boyfriend back home,” she teased lightly.
“He isn’t my boy—”
“It’s the polite thing to do,” she said, cutting him off. “Good night, Fushimi-kun.”
“Night…” Fushimi glanced at Mikoto and Anna walking up the stairs for a moment before turning away back to his drink.
Kusanagi sighed. “Well, I guess it’s time for all of us to go to bed. Can’t cause too much racket with them sleeping.”
Misaki frowned. “I wanted to spend more time with Saru though!”
“Then why don’t you ask him yourself?”
Fushimi looked at Misaki, who turned to him, blushing. “Could… I spend more time with you tonight?”
“No.” The artist didn’t hesitate. He needed to sleep and get ready for the shop tomorrow….. But he did feel guilty for saying no. He didn’t know why, but he did.
“I guess Eric and I will be seeing you on Tuesday, then.”
He did look upset, so Fushimi said, “Make me a batch of those muffins or something.” After a moment he added, “To make up for some of the money… and you don’t want me eating just energy bars, right?”
That made Misaki smile again. “Okay! I’ll be back in a bit.” He jumped off of the stool and ran back into the kitchen.
Misaki came back out not too long after carrying a plate full of muffins and a black container. “A batch of muffins and some Yata-rice.” He proudly put them on the counter.
“Yata-rice?” Fushimi looked through the transparent lid. It looked edible, Fushimi concluded.
“Yep! I was trying to make something that Kusanagi told me about with Kamamoto, but I messed up a little, so now we have Yata-rice.” He smiled smugly, prideful of his work. “Oh, and also you have to heat it up if you put in the fridge.”
Fushimi nodded and stood up, picking up the “Yata-rice”. “Misaki, help me bring this to the car.”
“Okay! Good night Kusanagi!” Misaki chimed while picking up his muffins.
“Good night, boys.” The bartender waved as the two walked outside.
Misaki hopped over to the car and put the muffins in when Fushimi opened the door. “Um… Saruhiko?”
Fushimi glanced at him after putting the “Yata-rice” into the car.
“C-can I… Uh…. C-can….” The shorter man was a blushing mess, stuttering over his words. He had pulled off his beanie and was twisting it in his hands.
“What?”
“Nevermind! Forget it. It’s just nonsense.” Misaki blushed more, looking away. “Just good night. Have a good night.”
Fushimi looked at him for a moment, his hand braced on the open car door. “Okay. Night, Misaki.” But before closing the car door, he said, “17,000.”
Fushimi did eat some of the muffins and “Yata-rice”. He wasn’t planning to, but Misaki had made it for him. So for dinner, Fushimi popped open the “Yata-Rice” container. Steam bloomed out of it because of the microwave.
The artist looked at the “Yata-rice” for a moment before taking a bite. It actually tasted good, or maybe it was because the only food he had eaten recently was Yata’s muffins… still, he was grateful for something nice after a day of work. Fushimi glanced up at his laptop and took another bite. With his free hand he clicked on a website.
White and Black
[times. address. etc.]
Kuroh Yatogami has been in service for at least three years, taking over the business from his late “master” Ichigen Miwa. He specializes in tattoos while his assistant, Yashiro Isana, specializes in piercings. This pair has rapidly gone up in the charts as the most reliable and affectionate.
*note: If you have cat allergies, do not come in. We own a cat named Neko. Also, unnecessary hassles will be a fee, we don’t have time for nonsense.
Midway towards the end of the description of Yatogami’s shop, Fushimi bit into something weird. He looked into the dish to see pineapples. The artist gave his food the straightest face anyone had ever seen. I’m going to have to talk to Misaki about this. He poked the vile piece of food with a chopstick, then realized that he had already eaten some. He’s going to pay for that.
Fushimi pushed the dish away from him and turned his focus back to the computer. Pictures of the two men and the cat were posted. Yatogami had a lot of tattoos covering his arms; one poked out of his shirt and onto his neck. His hair was tied back in a neat ponytail. The other man was kind of cute (not as cute as Misaki, but Fushimi wasn’t going to admit that). There were a few black streaks in his white hair and three lip piercings on his right bottom lip. He had his head cocked and his tongue sticking out, flashing a peace sign as well. He looks too lively to be working with Yatogami, Fushimi thought.
A twirling noise came out of the computer and a little green box appeared in the corner. He clicked on it. The box expanded and the box grew bigger until it was 3x2. The was private message for JUNGLE.
Hello Fushimi.
Fushimi glanced at the username, then replied. Yes, Mikoto?
Mikoto wrote back, Congrats on making it to fifth place. Didn’t tell you earlier cuz I doubted anyone else knew.
Misaki knows.
Fushimi clicked on Mikoto’s profile while waiting for an answer.
Mikoto Suoh
Play time: 5 months
Place: 4th
Online?: Yes
Age: 24
Extra information: Mikoto is currently the leader of the Homra gang. He has been in 4th place for 3 months now and he does not want to move. Beware.
Mikoto replied, You to are close. Fushimi frowned at the spelling mistake.
No we are not.
Misaki is close to you.
Why are you speaking to me? Fushimi asked, frustrated as to why everyone seemed to think that Misaki liked and knew him so well.
-Mikoto Suoh logged off-
“Of course,” the artist grumbled before getting up and returning the “Yata-rice” to the fridge for the next day. He shut his laptop and plugged it in. He grabbed his PDA and headed into his bedroom with a yawn. Before getting onto the bed, he took off his pants and threw them into the corner; he did the same with his arm bands.
Fushimi took his glasses off and rubbed his eyes, placing them on the nightstand. When he did, he noticed that his art notebook was open. He shoved his glasses back on and read what it said:
Here is my number: XXX-XXX-XXXX. I figured that you wouldn’t ask for it so yeah. Here you go! ~Yata.
There was a small crow next to the number that was poorly drawn (two circles with a triangle beak and stick legs), but strangely cute. Fushimi sat on the bed and put the number into his PDA, not intending to use it unless something important came up. But he hesitated before shutting off his phone. It would be…. nice to talk to him, Fushimi thought, even if it was just to annoy him about the food. Fushimi hadn’t had that kind of friendly human contact in a long time. Quite frankly, he really hadn’t had any friendly contact. Fushimi wanted to feel it again, the feeling of being mentally connected with someone.
He didn’t realize that he had clicked the call button until he saw Misaki across the screen and “outputting” written underneath. Fushimi was about to hang up when Misaki answered.
“Hey, Yata here,” a groggy voice mumbled through the phone.
Fushimi closed his eyes for a moment, stemming his nerves. He didn’t like talking over the phone; he couldn’t read the person’s features to tell how they were feeling. It was either text or face to face, nothing in between. “Hey… Misaki.”
“Saru? Hi!” The grogginess in his voice seemed to disappear. “It’s 2 am. What’s up?”
“Pineapples.” Okay. That was a good enough reason to call, right? Not just to hear someone’s voice.
“Huh? Pineapples.” There was a pause. “Or right! The “Yata-rice.””
Fushimi laid back on the bed so his legs dangled off the side. “18,000.”
“Did you just increase the price because I put pineapples in it? Did you even try it?”
“Yes to both.”
“Did you like it?” Misaki sounded like he was holding his breath.
Fushimi didn’t say anything for a moment. “Yes.”
“The you shouldn’t raise the price! I take it that you don’t like pineapples, but at least take it down to 1750! Pretend that the pineapple isn’t there.”
“I can’t pretend. But fine. 1750 since you answered your phone.”
“Yay!” Fushimi listened to Misaki cheer goofily over the phone. After another moment of silence Misaki said his name.
“Yeah?”
“There must be another reason why you called.”
“There isn’t.” Fushimi went to click the “end call” button, but Misaki interrupted quickly.
“Oh. But stay on please. I’m awake so we might as well—”
“Talk. I know. You like to talk.”
“It depends…”
“Let’s not talk,” Fushimi decided.
“O-okay.” Misaki went silent.
The artist rolled over onto his side, his phone now on speaker so he didn’t have to hold it to his ear. He stared at the phone, the screen casting shadows on the sheets and walls. He closed his eyes after a moment, then realized that he could hear Misaki breathing. It was oddly comforting—hearing someone breathe, yet not lying next to them. An unknowing smile crept across his lips.
Fushimi closed his eyes and darkness rolled in.
Fushimi pressed his palms into his eyes. “God dammit,” he growled. He didn’t get a wink of sleep the night before, except for right after the call. The usual nightmare happened again. He hated it so much that he usually got only an hour or two of sleep a night—or just skipped it altogether. The artist normally would go home or into the backroom to rest if he had gotten no sleep whatsoever, but he was waiting for Misaki and Eric.
His last client had just left with a wave, so he looked at the time. He let out another growl, seeing that it was getting later and later and they still hadn’t come. “Misaki. What’s taking you so long?”
Speak of the devil, the front door opened with a little jingle and Misaki walked in, his hooded friend right behind him. The artist got to his feet and walked over.
“Hi Saru!” The shorter man smiled up at him. “We’re here!”
“I see that.”
Misaki itched at the back of his neck, a blush blooming on his cheeks. “Uh….”
“What?” Fushimi frowned at him, not understanding his sudden embarrassment.
“N-nothing.” He blushed more.
The artist leaned down teasingly. “Why are you blushing, Misaki?”
The red on his face was suddenly ten times darker than it had been a second earlier when Fushimi had leaned down. “I-I just remembered when…. I just…. I was just remembering how much I liked listening to your breathing.” The last sentence came out quickly, as if he had had to force himself to say it.
Heat crept up into Fushimi’s cheeks, remembering that he had thought the same thing.
“[Chihuahua is cute when blushing.]” Fushimi turned and looked at Eric in surprise, who had lowered his hoodie to reveal light blue eyes. He noticed Fushimi looking at him. “[You understand me?]” he said in English.
“[Of course I do,]” responded Fushimi, glad that the awkwardness between the gang member and artist was interrupted.
Both men smirked evilly at the same time. Clearly Misaki didn’t understand, because he was looking at both of them with a confused expression. Now the two of them had something against Misaki.
Fushimi moved away from Misaki and over to Eric. “Where?”
Eric grabbed the hem of his sweatshirt, then hesitated. He frowned and shook his head as if to push away certain thoughts, then he pulled his sweatshirt over his head, his shirt coming off with it. He quickly looked away and tapped his shoulder. “There.”
The artist nodded. “Okay.” He pushed him a little and he obeyed, laying on his stomach. Fushimi quickly scanned his body with his eyes, to see why Eric seemed so uncomfortable with taking his shirt off.
“I was a dog of Hikawa, okay?” the blond grumbled, knowing exactly what Fushimi was looking at. The artist was staring at the scars covering his back, mostly around his arms and neck.
Fushimi didn’t respond, but instead grabbed the photo from Misaki’s tattoo and started to copy the symbol down. Misaki had wandered over, his skateboard now gone. “Go sit,” Fushimi grumbled as he finished the sketch.
The skater did as he was told and sat in a rolling chair. Fushimi took out his phone and took a picture of the sketch for Eric. After a nod of approval from the gang member, Fushimi did the rest.
During the process, Misaki had repeatedly come over to watch—enough times for Fushimi to click his tongue, annoyed, and allow him to stay. His bright amber eyes were sparkling in amazement as he watched Fushimi work.
Eric sat up, now with a pad on his shoulder. “[Thank you, Fushimi-kun.]”
“[Welcome.]” The artist put his stuff away.
“This is so cool! Your whole job is cool!” Misaki spun around in the rolling chair until his orange hair looked like a blur.
“Slow down or you’ll hurt yourself.” Fushimi flashed him a look, but didn’t really mean it. He pushed away the little happy feeling that had erupted in his chest at Misaki’s words.
The blond put his shirt and hoodie back on and fished his PDA from his pocket. “How much?”
“10,000.”
He nodded, and was putting his PDA close to Fushimi’s to transfer the money when the front door swung open violently.

Angel Beats/ afterlife AU? Considering how tragic many of the character's backstories are, if they ended up dying young, I can see some of them thinking that their life wasn't worth living. Cue Yata as the main protagonist, maybe? It's totally up to you who you want to include.
So maybe with protagonist Yata, imagine Homra is like the AfterlifeBattlefront battling against a group they call the Angel Brigade, made up of students with supernatural powers who are also the studentcouncil at the school. It’s explained to Yata by Kusanagi andTotsuka, second and third in command of Homra, that the angels arepresumably divine servants and if Homra can defeat them then they cangain the right to challenge God for the horrible lives they ledbefore dying. Yata doesn’t remember how he died but he’s quicklycaught up in the entire idea, like he thinks all the Homra guys areso cool and their leader Mikoto is only man strong enough tochallenge the student council president and head of the angels,Munakata. The other Homra guys teach him about the way the worldworks, that they all go to a school filled with NPCs who appear to benormal humans but don’t have the memories of their previous life thatthe rest of the group does. Yata thinks it’s stupid that they have togo to school in the first place and he’s super bored the whole time.Maybe in one of his first classes he ends up sitting next to who heassumes is an NPC, he thinks it’s weird that this ‘Fushimi’ guydoesn’t do any work but maybe that’s part of his role in the fakeschool. Yata starts chatting with him though and finds himselfthinking Fushimi is pretty cool and assumes he must be part of Homrainstead. Yata’s instead heartbroken when one of the Homra alphabetboys starts causing a stir in class to distract the angels andFushimi stands up, taking off his school jacket to reveal the bluejacket of the student council underneath and Yata realizes thatFushimi’s actually the enemy.
From that point on Yata decides that Fushimi is going to be hispersonal rival, like he’s going to take Fushimi down by himself andshow everyone that he’s a great asset to Homra. He tries to set inmotion some plan to get Fushimi kicked off the student council andmaybe everything turns into a mess that leads to the entire councilbeing downgraded. Instead in place of president Munakata they end upwith a new student council run by Hisui Nagare that’s focused more on finding a way to make all the NPCs and the normal people equal.Totsuka ends up being caught by a shadow released by Hisui and he’sturned into an NPC, Homra is horrified and they end up having to allywith Scepter 4 to take down the Greens. In doing so maybe Yata andFushimi have to team up and when they both like accidentally touchHisui they’re able to see his past, like Hisui was taken from hiskindly adoptive father and given back to abusive parents who left himin a wheelchair restrained by a straitjacket and wouldn’t let himgo anywhere or do anything. Even though Yata hates Hisui for whathappened to Totsuka he’s still got a lot of empathy for sad pastslike that and he ends up like talking Hisui through it, how Hisui wasable to find freedom here and walk around and be with other peopleand isn’t that what he always wanted, Hisui realizes that he’sactually achieved the thing he always desired and his body disappearsas he passes on.
The student council members are reinstated and Yata learns thatFushimi and the others weren’t angels after all, they got theirpowers using some program on the student council computer. Maybe itturns out that the Homra top three actually even knew it already, like the whole battle thing was an agreement betweenMikoto/Kusanagi/Totsuka and Munakata/Awashima/Fushimi to help keeptheir respective teams busy so they didn’t dwell on their situations. With Hisui moving on though maybe Yata starts wondering about whathappened there, like can they all move on this way. Then the samemonsters that attacked Totsuka start attacking other members of thegroup and they realize that if they don’t all move on soon they’ll beturned into NPCs themselves. Yata decides to start helping others toremember their pasts, like somehow he and Fushimi have a connectionthat when they touch someone that person remembers what they wantedwhen they died and everyone tries to help make those wishes cometrue. And in helping everyone else Yata starts remembering how hedied too (and maybe it’s a bit different than in Angel Beats andinstead Yata keeps seeing Fushimi’s face in his memory because theywere best friends in life and then Fushimi got killed by Niki orsomething and Yata was hit by a truck on his way home from thefuneral. Fushimi’s last thought was how much he wanted to see Yataagain and that regret was what was keeping him from ever moving on,because he needed to see Yata one last time).
#sarumi#Talking K#Fushimi waiting all that time for Yata to show up#and maybe he knows it's Yata right away too#he doesn't know that Yata lost his memories though#and thinks that Yata chose Homra over him or like forgot about him entirely#as if Fushimi wasn't even important#he doesn't know Yata died soon after he did#Yata's one regret too was not getting to say goodbye to Fushimi#and then they get reincarnated together
