The girl Nettles did not share their celebrations. She had flown with the others, fought as bravely, burned and killed as they had, but her face was black with smoke and streaked with tears when she returned to Dragonstone.

Yet was fear of Vhagar the only reason Prince Daemon kept Nettles close to him? Mushroom would have us believe it was not. By the dwarfs account, Daemon Targaryen had come to love the small brown bastard girl, and had taken her into his bed.

Nor could Netty truly be called pretty. "A skinny brown girl on a skinny brown dragon," writes Munkun in his True Telling (though he never saw her). Septon Eustace says her teeth were crooked, her nose scarred where it had once been slit for thieving. Hardly a likely paramour for a prince, one would think.

Maester Norren writes that "the prince and his bastard girl" supped together every night, broke their fast together every morning, slept in adjoining bedchambers, that the prince "doted upon the brown girl as a man might dote upon his daughter," instructing her in "common courtesies" and how to dress and sit and brush her hair, that he made gifts to her of "an ivory-handled hairbrush, a silvered looking glass, a cloak of rich brown velvet bordered in satin, a pair of riding boots of leather soft as butter." The prince taught the girl to wash, Norren says, and the maidservants who fetched their bath water said he oft shared a tub with her, "soaping her back or washing the dragon stink from her hair, both of them as naked as their namedays."

“As to the girl Nettles, She is a common thing, with the stink of sorcery upon her," the queen declared. "My prince would ne'er lay with such a low creature. You need only look at her to know she has no drop of dragon's blood in her. It was with spells that she bound a dragon to her, and she has done the same with my lord husband." So long as he was in the girl's thrall, Prince Daemon could not be relied upon, Her Grace went on. Therefore, let a command be sent at once to Maidenpool, but only for the eyes of Lord Mooton. "Let him take her at table or abed and strike her head off. Only then shall my prince be freed."

"It may be we shall be destroyed whatever choice we make. The prince is more than fond of this brown child, and his dragon is close at hand. A wise lord would kill them both, lest the prince burn Maidenpool in his wroth."

How the prince and his bastard girl spent their last night beneath Lord Mooton's roof is not recorded, but as dawn broke they appeared together in the yard, and Prince Daemon helped Nettles saddle Sheepstealer one last time. It was her custom to feed him each day before she flew; dragons bend easier to their rider's will when full. That morning she fed him a black ram, the largest in all Maidenpool, slitting the ram's throat herself. Her riding leathers were stained with blood when she mounted her dragon, Maester Norren records, and "her cheeks were stained with tears." No word of farewell was spoken betwixt man and maid, but as Sheepstealer beat his leathery brown wings and climbed into the dawn sky, Caraxes raised his head and gave a scream that shattered every window in Jonquil's Tower. High above the town, Nettles turned her dragon toward the Bay of Crabs, and vanished in the morning mists, never to be seen again at court or castle.

The singers tell us that the old prince survived the fall and afterward made his way back to the girl Nettles, to spend the remainder of his days at her side.

I’m really worried the show is going to cut Nettles. Earlier this year there was an anon leak going around that Nettles was going to be cut and her storyline shared across other characters. I didn’t believe it at first and thought it was just wishful thinking amongst daemyras. Then a few months ago those leaked images of the actor who plays Rhaena and their stunt double in a forest came out with leakers claiming that the scene being filmed was of ‘a girl falling off a dragon.’ so I thought that was a bit strange, then the leaked images of the Addam actor with a dark wig came out not long after. We also now know who all the actors for the dragonseeds are except nettles. What if there is some truth to that anon after all?

Rhaena is going to the Vale(allegedly with a dragon egg) and she’s going to have scenes with Jeyne Arryn:

The leak about a girl falling who could potentially be Rhaena doesn’t mention anything about a dragon:

From the sounds of things she’s not replacing Nettles and Addam having dark hair in the grand scheme of things doesn’t mean much.

We know who Addam's father is. We don’t know who Nettles’ father is. Addam is still a known Valyrian bastard(that's not changing; liken him to the Strong boys). Nettles is not.

People are way too hung up over race(they claim they aren’t racist and don’t see color but all of a sudden when it comes to this topic all they see is color). The only thing he and Nettles have in common is them both being Black now which isn’t enough to justify cutting a Black woman and replacing her with a Black man🙃 Their storylines are no more similar than that of Ulf and Nettles.

Look, if they cut Netty it’s going to look hella suspect considering they’ve managed to include everyone from Cregan Stark down to Silver Denys yet there is no room for the one in-canon Black girl.

(And if someone comes in here talking about how there are already Black people on this show that won’t fly. There are a ton of white people as well. Should they have cut and race bended the new editions too or does this only apply to the whopping six Blackish characters 🙃).

She’s a secondary character yes, but she does have a important storyline that can’t just be transported on Rhaena or Addam because they are all Black(ish) now.

Her arc is way more important than Ulf White and Hugh Hammer who let’s be honest could’ve been combined since they serve the same purpose yet they are both being adding and their storylines are getting fleshed out. Pure and simple if they cut her it’s racism.

This all being said, till we get the trailer I’m not going to sweat over it too much💆🏽‍♀️

Dumbnyra stans(they are the main ones pushing for her to be cut) aren’t the only ones watching this show and if HBO wants to play that game they can prepare themselves for a boycott(which I’d urge everyone who actually cares to participate in because they would’ve shown their a**es between this and lighting Laena on fire).

The girl Nettles was young, beyond a doubt (though perhaps not as young as those the prince had debauched in his youth), but it seems doubtful that she was a true maiden. Growing up homeless, motherless, and penniless on the streets of Spicetown and Hull, she would most likely have surrendered her innocence not long after her first flowering (if not before, in return for half a groat or a crust of bread. And the sheep she fed to Sheepstealer to bind him to her...how would she have come by those, if not by lifting her skirts for some shepherd? Nor could Netty truly be called pretty. In regards to the Nettles being cut from s2 rumors, let’s keep in mind that what is being reported is just speculation. Let’s also keep in mind who is reporting these rumors (and how they aren’t matching up with previous leaks).

First, it must be said that these are the same accounts that have wanted her race-bent, and cut, and haven't even bothered to identify the two Black women in that leaked photo back in July where one of the actresses looked like Netty(going so far as to think one obviously Black woman was in Blackface 🙃)for months now.

This isn't the first time they've spread BS(particularly HOTD Black who seems to low-key have a, dare I say, racial beef with her and wants her replaced with Rhaena or race-bent):

And as mentioned these leakers(including the one who just leaked this rumor) have not really bothered to find the actress playing Nettles in the first place whereas they’ve made more than an effort with characters like Ulf White (even if they speculated inaccurately, they at least tried):

All hope is not lost. We have not received a trailer nor have we received anyone from actual HBO saying that she has been cut.

We have to keep in mind that though Nettles is a secondary player she is integral to the fabric of Daemon’s final arc. She’s the reason for why he ultimately betrays Rhaenyra and leaves to fight Aemond. Everything revolves around her.

So even if Nettles’ appearance might be pushed back until season 3(which is unwarranted even with the cut in episodes given that allegedly they are creating plotlines for Twiddledum and Twiddledee):

The odds that she’s fully cut are pretty low IMO.

Especially since we have Silver Denys there(who dies) and Rhaena appears to be heading to the Vale dragon-less:

If Nettles is cut, well simply put, I think it’s contradictory for a show claiming to want to appeal to a more diverse audience to instead try to cater to a set of fans who have used racially charged language to mock and bullied a Black character(and her fans) for over a year now:

I urge everyone to boycott the show if this is the cause. From killing off Missadei back in the Game of Thrones days to Laena being killed off in the most gruesome way possible down to this BS, this show has proven itself to have a misogynoir problem.
