Malaya Movement USA condemns and opposes the current push to revise the 1987 Philippine Constitution. This effort is clearly self-serving, unnecessary and dangerous. We, in the Malaya Movement USA, call on the Filipino people to reject and oppose the current moves of the Marcos-Duterte regime to change the constitution.

While the 1987 Constitution is not perfect, this constitution was the product of the EDSA People’s Power Uprising. The people’s movement won the inclusion of provisions that are aimed at protecting the interests of the Filipino people. This constitution placed term limits on all elected officials, especially the executive, and placed limitations on the executive’s ability to declare martial law. This constitution also included social justice and nationalist provisions aimed at addressing the fundamental problems of an unjust economic order in the Philippines as well as protect it from being dominated by foreign powers through the economic protections that prevent 100% full foreign ownership of companies within Philippine territory.

This recent move to change the constitution only serves the interests of the Marcos-Duterte regime and the various political dynasties. While [President] Marcos Jr. said that it is not the priority of his administration, the moves of his minions in congress clearly shows otherwise. By opening up the constitution for revision, dangerous provisions proposed before such as curbing people’s civil and political rights, eliminating term limits for the elected officials, and eliminating the nationalist and protectionist provisions will be disastrous to human rights, democracy and sovereignty in the Philippines. We believe that the 1987 Constitution is not the root of the national problems afflicting the Filipino people. Landlessness, unemployment and poverty are caused by more systemic problems of the continuing dominance of landlords and land monopolies, the absence of national industries, and a neo-colonial economy that doesn’t serve the immediate and long term interests of the Filipino people.

The Philippine government and the Marcos-Duterte regime need to focus on resolving and ameliorating the disastrous impacts of the economic crisis on the Filipino people instead of prioritizing charter change. Inflation is at an all time high of 8.7% and is devastating the poorest Filipinos by the surging price of basic goods. We need immediate government action to provide economic aid to the poor, raise wages and improve working conditions in the short term and a comprehensive program to develop our agriculture and industry in the long term. Not a self-serving, unnecessary and costly effort to change the constitution.

We in the Malaya Movement USA call on the Filipino people and our allies to reject and oppose Marcos Jr.’s efforts for Charter Change! We encourage patriotic Filipinos in the diaspora to get organized and prepare to take action if the Marcos-Duterte regime continues with its efforts to change the constitution.

I have another theory or thought about TUA…

I couldn’t help but look back at this post-credit scene of season 3. And look at what Ben is wearing, and with the context we have of season 4 with the timetravelling subway trains, Ben is wearing a suit which resembles the commission suits…

Also with the scene in the teaser where it looks like Ben is in Vietnam, it could plause the theory where they’re correcting the timeline, just as the commission does. AGHH!!!

I am probably REACHING but it’s fascinating me, a navy suit isn’t an uncommon fashion statement but in the context of the show?????

Maybe this is where it originates, because five was the original founder.

Things I Noticed Watching The Umbrella Academy for the Second Time

Spoilers ahead!

• Leonard was always kinda creepy. The reason most people didn't notice it at first is because the narrative makes you hope for good things for Vanya, especially when he acts kind and supportive towards her. It's a wonderful portrayal of manipulative relationship dynamics because it makes you experience the manipulation first hand with Vanya. Incredible.

• Hazel really came into the "Kill Number 5" job with one foot out the door. He was already planning to leave his job and find a normal life. And considering he actually took the time to realize that he was miserable and then manage to just barely keep his job while looking for a way out, I think Hazel just might be the most mentally stable person in that entire organization.

• Vanya's whole statement about wondering if what Mom says is from her own thoughts or from Dad isn't a nihilistic thought about Mom not being her own person. She was trying to express that Dad might have actually loved them, deep down, because if he didn't then he wouldn't have been able to program Mom to be so loving and caring to them. Not only is this foreshadowing for later seasons, it also means that Reginald specifically programmed Mom to show the children all the love and care that he never could in his role.

• Holy shit, Klaus ACTUALLY DROWNED in that bathtub in episode 3—

• Klaus always had a 70s vibe going on before he ever went to Vietnam. It begs the question, did the briefcase take him to Vietnam because that era was in his heart all along? Is that what happens when you don't program it?

• The series treats Vanya's book like it was some horrible mistake. A bad decision that made everyone's lives worse. At least, that's what most of her siblings think, so it makes the viewer feel that way too. But if you take a step back and look at it, there was nothing wrong with Vanya's book. It was therapeutic for her, and it helped everyone go on to become their own people. They should have been happy that Vanya had the courage to speak out about the abuse that they endured, but instead they hate her for it because it forced them to face negative feelings that they'd been trying to ignore.

• When Five ran back to the academy and found it destroyed, the very first name he called was Vanya's. She was the person he was concerned about the most.
