i can't believe i'm spn posting in the year of our lord 2024 but. something that i think neither the sam favourers nor the dean favourers ever really understood was that they were both awful to each other in their own right but it was never for selfish reasons. i think... at the end of the day they just loved each other so much that it prevented them from ever really being able to see the other as a person and not simply an object of love and devotion. they have crossed every single line and personal boundary, violated each other's autonomy, disregarded each other's right to personhood many times but never really for their own gain. only to save other's life, even if the other in question did not want to live at the costs being offered to them. they have each chosen each other over the fate of the entire fucking world multiple times despite knowing that it is the wrong choice to make, and yet they made it consciously over and over and over again.

it's not selfishness, it's simply... love so irreparably coloured with destructive devotion that there is simply no place for the regard of the wishes of the object of this love. it is fiery and it is cruel and it is even ugly at times. but it is love nonetheless.
