Just imagine Youngblood actually teaches Damian how to be a Child. Damian was raised as an assassin never got to just be a child and play and have fun. Youngblood on the other hand is a eternal child who's entire existence is just looking for a new way to have fun. So sure it starts with play fighting with swords that Damian turns into acual lessons, but Youngblood slowly but surely teaches Damian to relax and have fun simply because it's fun.
So Damian gets a chance at beeing a child.
I once mentioned the idea of the Batfam mistaking Danny as Damian's imaginary friend, but I've had a brain blast.
Youngblood as Damian's not-so- imaginary friend.
Damian seems kind of lonely to me. Does he have any school friends? I think canonically he's friends with Jonathan Kent, but he lives in a different city, so they can't hang out a lot.
Youngblood somehow ends up in Gotham and sees a kids with a SWORD!!! And immediately launches into a play fight. Damian probably doesn't realize that it is a play fight. He's just being attacked by some random meta.
Then Danny comes to get Youngblood and he complains about having to go home when he's having fun (like that one episode of Star Trek TOS). That's when Damian realizes that Youngblood is an actual child and was playing with him.
But, Youngblood comes back again and again. He even comes to Wayne Manor. That's when Damian finds out that adults can't see Youngblood.
That's all I've got. I think that Danny would approve of Damian and Youngblood being friends because it keeps Youngblood out of trouble. The Batfam would be concerned because it looks like Damian is training a lot when he's actually teaching Youngblood how to swordfight properly.

🏆2019 grammy predictions🏆
Grammy predictions come out in two days and I'm excited and nervous for my faves. These predictions are not necessarily based on how I'd pick the nominations but what I think the academy will pick. My picks come from success, critics and what other people have discussed from sites such as goldderby and billboard.
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
Black Panther:The album-Various artist
Cardi b-Invasion of privacy
The Carter's-Everything is love
Drake-Scorpion
Janelle Monae-Dirty Computer
Kasey Musgraves-Golden hour
St.Vincent-MASSEDUCATION
Taylor Swift-Reputation
Alternatives:
Ariana Grande-Sweetner
Camila Cabello-Camila
Chris Stapleton-From a room-Vol 2
The Greatest Showman soundtrack
P!NK-Beautiful trauma
Paul McCartney-Egypt station
Post malone-Beerbongs & Bentleys
Sam Smith-The thrill of it all
Travis Scott-Astroworld
(I'm confident with my picks, if I see anyone in jeopardy its probably the black panther album because its a movie soundtrack and EIL and reputation. I love Taylor and the carters but I can see them snubbed in this category because EIL kind of came and went and Taylor's reputation era is not a big as the 1989 era, but it is one of the higest selling albums this year and Taylor's name alone could be enough. Same with the carters EIL was not that big this year but because they've been snubbed the past three years and their name alone could get them in. I can see sweetner getting in because Ariana had a big year as well as Travis and post because they had big albums in 2018, but I'm confident with my final picks)
Record of the year
Ariana Grande-God is a woman
Cardi b,Bad bunny &J balvin-I like it
The Carters-Apeshit
Childish Gambino-This is America
Drake-God's Plan
Ed sheeran & Beyonce-Perfect debut
Maroon 5 ft. Cardi b-Girls like you
Zedd,Marren Morris & Grey-The middle
Alternatives
5 seconds of summer-Youngblood
Bebe Rexha & Flordia Georgia Line-Meant to be
Camila Cabello-Havana (Live)
Ella Mai-Boo’d up
Kendrick Lamar & SZA-All the Stars
Lady Gaga & Bradly Cooper-Shallow
Panic! At the disco-High Hopes
Sam Smith-Pray
Shawn Mendes
Taylor Swift-Delicate
(I’m pretty confident with my picks. Ariana could be in jeopardy, but she’s long overdue for a main four nom. Meant to be, Delicate and Boo’d up can defiantly sneak in. I personally would love for In my blood and youngblood to get a nom, but I’m not too sure if Shawn and 5SOS will get a big 4 nomination just yet)
Song of the year
Ariana Grande-No tears left to cry
Bebe Rexha & Flordia Georgia Line-Meant to be
The Carters-Apesht
Drake-God’s Plan
Ella Mai-Boo’d up
Maroon 5 ft. Cardi b-Girls like you
Zedd, Marren Morris & Grey-The middle
Alternative
Camila Cabello-Never be the same
Cardi b, Bad bunny & J Balvin-I like it
Dan+Shay-Tequila
Juice WRLD-Lucid dreams
Justin Timberlake & Chris Stapleton-Say Something
Keala Settle-This is me
Kendrick Lamar & SZA-All the stars
Khalid & Normani-Love lies
Lady Gaga & Bradly Cooper-Shallow
Post Malone & 21 Savage-Rockstar
Shawn Mendes-In my blood
Taylor Swift-Delicate
(I have to be honest, I’m not to confident with my final 8, apeshit and god’s plan are in jeopardy here in my opinion. Lyrically I do not think GLY or the middle deserve a nom,but because of how big they were this year I think they will get one. I only heard Tequila a few times, but it has been discussed a lot so I feel it could get one here. I would not sleep on lucid dream, this is me, rockstar, delicate and shallow. I personally would love if Never be the same, All the stars, Love lies and In my blood got a nomination.
Best new artist
Bebe Rexha
Dua Lipa
Ella Mai
Greta Van Fleet
Juice WRLD
Luke Combs
Marshmello
Troye Sivan
Alternatives
Bazzi
Chloe X Halle
Hayley Kiyoko
H.E.R
Jorja Smith
Kali Uchis
Kane Brown
lovelyheband
Queen Naija
(I’m iffy about Troye and Marshmello, I would love if Troye got in, but I could see him getting in. Bebe,Dua,Ella and Juice are locks in my opinion. I would not sleep on Bazzi, Hayley, H.E.R and Jorja. I think lovelytheband could get in because I want a band to get in, but I doubt it. Queen is a dark horse, but she had one of the biggest R&B songs this year)
Best Pop Solo Performance
Ariana Grande-God is a woman
Camila Cabello-Havana(Live)
Post Malone-Better now
Shawn Mendes-In my blood
Taylor Swift-Delicate
Alternatives
Demi Lovato-Sober
Dua Lipa-New Rules(Live)
Halsey-Bad at love
Janelle Monae-Make me feel
Justin Timberlake-Filthy
Keala Smith-This is me
Sam Smith-Pray
Selena Gomez-Back to you
Troye Sivan-My! My! My!
(This one was pretty easy because 2018 was a lackluster year for pop solo songs. If anyone could not make it, it would be the males. I would not be surprised if the Grammy’s made this category all female. Demi, Halsey and Selena could make it in,but in my opinion In my blood deserves a nomination)
Best Pop Vocal Album
Ariana Grande-Sweetner
Camila Cabello-Camila
Kelly Clarkson-Meaning of life
P!NK-Beautiful Trauma
Sam Smith-The thrill of it all
Taylor Swift-Reputation
Alternatives
5 Seconds of Summer-Youngblood
Christina Aguilera-Liberation
Florence + the Machine-High as hope
Justin Timberlake-Man of the Woods
Maroon 5-Red pill Blue pill
Panic! At the disco-Pray for the wicked
Post Malone-Beerbongs & Bentley's
Shawn Mendes-Shawn Mendes
(Again, this another category that is close to being all female if xtina or Florence get in, but I think Sam will get a nomination because he is a Grammy darling. Ari, Camila and Taylor are my only locks but I can see 5SOS, Shawn and xtina getting in.)
Best Pop duo/group Performance
5 Seconds of Summer-Youngblood
Ed Sheeran & Beyoncé-Perfect Debut
Lady Gaga & Bradly Cooper-Shallow
Maroon 5 ft. Cardi b-Girls like you
Zedd,Marren Morris & Grey-The middle
Alternatives
Bunny Blanco, Khalid and Halsey-Eastside
Christina Aguilera & Demi Lovato-Fall in line
Florence + the Machine-Hunger
G-Eazy & Halsey-Him & I
Justin Timberlake & Chris Stapleton-Say Something
Kendrick Lamar & The Weekend-Pray for me
Marshmello & Bastille-Happier
Panic! At the disco-High hopes
Post Malone &Ty dollar $ign-Psycho
Shawn Mendes & Khalid-Youth
Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran & Future-End game
(I’m pretty confident with my final 5, but I think youngblood and shallow could be snubbed. Shallow is too new and 5SOS are not taken as seriously because people see them as a boyband. But I have a good feeling they will be nominated this year. Happier, Pray for me, psycho and high hopes are defiantly possible)
Best R&B Album
H.E.R.-H.E.R.
Jorja Smith-Lost & found
Leon Bridges-Good thing
Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings-Strength of a woman
Toni Braxton-Sex & Cigarettes
Alternatives
112-Q Mike Slim Daran
En Vouge-Electric Chair
Jessie J-R.O.S.E
Keyisha Cole-11:11 reset
Lloyd-Tru
Teyana Taylor-K.T.S.E
(I feel H.E.R and Jorja would defiantly get a nomination. I am a fan of Keyisha Cole, so I hope she can get a nomination. Toni Braxton defiantly deserves a nomination, but sex & cigarettes was a really short album so I will not be surprised if it is snubbed)
Best R&B Song
The Carters-Summer
Ella Mai-Boo’d up
H.E.R-Focus
Janelle Monae-I like that
Khalid & Normani-Love lies
Alternatives
Childish Gambino-Feels like summer
Chloe X Halle-Happy without me
Leon Bridges-Beyond
Ne-yo-Good man
Queen Naija-Medicine/Karma
Teyana Taylor-Gonna love me
Toni Braxton-Long as I live
(I’m very sure with my final 5, I think the carters could be snubbed with summer because it is not at known as the other songs.Queen and Toni could defiantly sneak in. I hope Chloe X Halle can get at least one nomination)
Best R&B Performance
Daniel Ceaser & H.E.R-Best part
Ella Mai-Boo’d up
Khalid & Normani-Love lies
Leon Bridges-Beyond
Toni Braxton-Long as I live
Alternatives
The Carters-Summer
Childish Gambino-Feels like summer
Janelle Monae-I like that
Jorja Smith-February 3rd
Ne-yo-Good man
Tamia-Leave it smokin
Teyana Taylor-Gonna love me
The Weekend-Call out my name
(It will be a crime if best part is not nominated, it’s a modern day “Nothing even matters” Weekend, Gambino and Janelle defiantly have a good chance of getting in)
Traditional R&B Performance
Charlie Wilson & Lalah Hathway-Made for you
Justin Timberlake & Alicia Keys-Morning light
Leon Bridges-Bet aint worth the hand
Luke James-These Arms
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings-Matter of time
Alternatives
Bootsy Collins & Kali Uchis-Worth my while
Mary J. Blige-Only love
Major-Honest
Samm Henshaw-How does it feel
Toni Braxton-Deadwood
(I don’t know much about this one because I don't listen to too much traditional R&B music, but I put songs I personally like)
Best Urban Cotemporary album
The Carters-Everything is love
Janelle Monae-Dirty Computer
Kali Uchis-Isolation
Miguel-War & Leisure
The Weekend-My Dear Melancholy
Alternatives
6lack-East Atlanta Love Letter
Chole X Halle-The kids are alright
Lalah Hathaway-Honestly
(If anyone is in jeopardy, it’s the weekend because it was a ep, not an album. 6lack is defiantly a threat to get in. The carters and Janelle are locks)
Best Rap Performance
The Carters-Apeshit
Drake-Nice for what
J.Cole-ATM
Nicki Minaj-Chun-li
Travis Scott & Drake-Sicko mode
Alternatives
Cardi b-Be Careful
Eminem-Killshot
Janelle Monae-Django Jane
Joyner Lucas-I’m not racist
Lil Wayne & Kendrick Lamar-Mona Lisa
Migos & Drake-Walk it talk it
(I’m not too sure about Chun li, but I think Nicki will get at least one nomination and chun li is probably the best song to get one. I would love for Janelle and Cardi to get in for more females in rap categories. However, I’m confident with my picks and I don't want cardi and Nicki in the same category. ATM is in jeopardy, but J.Cole deserves a nomination)
Best Rap/sung Performance
Cardi b, Bad bunny & J Balvin-I like it
Childish Gambino-This is America
Drake-In my feelings
Juice WRLD-Lucid dreams
Post Malone & 21 Savage-Rockstar
The Carters-Boss
Jhene Aiko & Rae Sremmurd-Sativa
Kendrick Lamar & SZA-All the stars
Lil Duval,Snoop dogg & Bill Greezy-Smile(Living my best life)
Mac Miller-Ladders
NF-Let you down
xxxtentacion-Sad
(I would like if Boss made it in, it is one of my favorites from Everything is love. If the Grammys want to honor Mac Miller, they could nominate him, but I don't think they will unfortanly. I put x as a alternative, but because of all of the controversy about him I don't think they want that backlash. I think rockstar could not make it in)
Best Rap Song
Cardi b-Be Careful
Childish Gambino-This is America
Drake-God’s Plan
Juice WRLD-Lucid dreams
Post Malone & 21 Savage-Rockstar
Alternatives
The Carters-Apeshit
Eminem & Joyner Lucas-Lucky you
J.Cole-ATM
Joyner Lucas-I’m not racist
Migos-Stir fry
Nicki Minaj-Barbie dreams
Travis Scott & Drake-Sicko mode
(Out of all of my alternatives, I want Barbie dreams to get in but again, I don't want Nicki and cardi in the same category. Sickio mode and Lucky you can defiantly get in. Be careful and rockstar could not make it in in my opinion)
Best Rap album
Black Panther:The album-Various artist
Cardi b-Invasion of privacy
Drake-Scorpion
J.Cole-KOD
Lil Wayne-The Carter V
Travis Scott-Astroworld
Alternatives
Brockhampton-Iridescence
Eminem-Kamikaze
Logic-Bobby Tarantino II
Mac Miller-Swimming
Nas-Nasir
Nicki Minaj-Queen
(I’m not sure if there’s 5 or 6, but I put 6. The only ones I see in trouble are BP and J.Cole, but they deserve one. Eminem an Nicki could defiantly make it in. I would like if Mac got it to honor hi, but I don't think he’ll get in sadly)

It’s A Good Time To Be Bad Bunny
The name Ocasio derives from the Spanish “ocasión,” which means what you think it means: an occasion, a time. According to Ancestry.com, most people named Ocasio are Puerto Rican, in heritage if not in residence, and the word’s “meaning as a surname” is unclear.
What is clear is Puerto Ricans named Ocasio are living up to their names by having a moment in 2018 — or at least two of them are. There is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the 28-year-old Democratic socialist who upended the incumbent in the New York primary this past spring and appears to be a lock to win a Congressional seat next week. When you Google “Ocasio,” the results are all about her. But another Ocasio is taking the world by storm this year, maybe even more so than the presumptive Congresswoman from New York’s 14th. His name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, but the world knows him as Bad Bunny.
Many English speakers had their proper introduction to Bad Bunny this past spring, when he featured alongside Cardi B and J Balvin on “I Like It,” a song from Cardi’s Invasion Of Privacy that flipped Pete Rodriguez’s Nuyorican boogaloo classic “I Like It Like That” into an unstoppable hip-hop club crusher. “I Like It” went to #1 on the Hot 100 and was deemed by many (including the readers of this website) the song of the summer. It also, in the wake of hits like “Despacito” and “Mi Gente,” continued to firm up a lane for Spanish language in the American pop mainstream, with both Bad Bunny and Balvin, from Colombia, delivering their verses in their native tongues as usual.
Since then Bad Bunny has popped up on a brisk reggaeton-house banger called “Está Rico” alongside Marc Anthony and Will Smith and released “Mia,” a Drake duet on which Drake performs entirely in Spanish. Now, Drake is a champion wave-rider who will seemingly hop on a song with any rising star he thinks will score him some cool points. I’m sure he’s accomplishing some serious brand expansion with his turn on “Mia.” Although I must admit he sounds quite fluent, hearing him rap and sing in Spanish on a Latin trap star’s song gives me the same awkward feeling of watching white American tourists attempt to show off by speaking the local language in a foreign country. On the other hand, imagine the triumph for Bad Bunny: The biggest star in music is guesting on your song, and he’s the one caught in your gravitational pull.
Bad Bunny, 24, grew up skateboarding and watching pro wrestling in Almirante Sur, Puerto Rico, the son of a truck driver and a retired schoolteacher. He famously started posting songs to SoundCloud a few years ago while working as a grocery store bagger and studying communications at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo. His single “Diles” (“Tell Them”) got him signed in early 2016, and by the end of the year he had a breakout hit with “Soy Peor” (“I’m Worse”). In the ensuing two years, he’s piled up hits and become one of the biggest names in the Spanish-speaking music world. Although he has yet to release an album — his official debut The New Religion is supposedly well underway — the Bad Bunny Essentials playlist on Apple Music is 50 songs long, spanning three hours and 35 minutes.
As one of the defining figures in Latin trap, Bad Bunny operates within a young tradition, combining reggaeton (and its Dominican cousin, dembow) with the Atlanta trap sounds that now rule American hip-hop. In various proportions, hip-swinging Caribbean club beats are paired with moody keyboard patches and heavily Auto-Tuned sing-rapping. The sound is as rampant within the Spanish-speaking diaspora as Migos ripoffs in the English-speaking rap world, and Bad Bunny has mastered it. He deploys his deep baritone with a rapper’s rhythmic mastery and a singer’s ear for melody — repeatedly hammering on one or two notes, suddenly spiking upward in dynamic flourishes, his voice subtly fraying at the edges when he dips into the bottom of his range.
Bad Bunny’s music helped to codify the sound of Latin trap, but he’s also a bit of a wild card within that framework. He’s definitely a live wire on the mic, known for unfiltered emotional outpourings and explicit sexual narratives. Both impulses were on display in his first two big hits: “Diles” errs toward the lascivious, with Bunny instructing his lover to let the people know how effective he is in bed, while “Soy Peor” finds him lashing out against an ex in language that — oblivious English speaker beware — is not so different from Juice WRLD’s toxic emo rap. But what really stands out is his idiosyncratic personal style. If his fluid low-register vocals and tendency toward dark rumination put him in parallel with Future’s digital codeine blues, his colorful visual presence marks him as Latin trap’s answer to Young Thug, Atlanta’s eccentric-in-chief.
This is a man with a personal aesthetic. He refused a stylist for his Fader cover story, dressing himself instead and looking better than most people in a glossy magazine feature. He recently showed up on the American Music Awards red carpet with a third eye painted on his forehead and kept it there during his performance. Like Thugger, he often subverts gender norms in fashion via elaborately painted nails or pink hair. His collection of tiny glasses probably makes Kanye jealous. I can’t wait to see what he looks like at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade three weeks from now.
Watching this iconoclastic Puerto Rican superstar waltz into one America’s most sanitized holiday traditions — at a time when the president and his affiliates are working hard to dehumanize and erase Hispanics in this country — will be a trip. It also might generate whiplash when compared with the current predicament of Puerto Rico, which remains in a state of prolonged recovery following last year’s Hurricanes Irma and Maria, partially thanks to that same president’s denial and neglect of the catastrophic damage.
It’s a cruel twist of fate that Bad Bunny’s rise has coincided with a period of deep struggle for his homeland. According to the Fader feature, as of last summer his parents’ home was still without electricity, and he personally showed up back in Almirante Sur to distribute food, water, and generators in the aftermath of the storms. In his celebratory summer hit “Estamos Bien” — which translates loosely to “We Good” — he acknowledges his fortunate circumstances in context. Translated from Spanish to English, the chorus reads, “Don’t worry, we’re fine/ With or without one hundred bills/ But having them is not bad.”
He seems on track to keep piling those dollars up. Continued domination of the Latin trap scene is close to inevitable. Furthermore, “Mia” just debuted at #5 on the Hot 100, a wildly impressive feat for a song performed entirely in Spanish. With a foothold from that song and “I Like It” he may be primed to start landing singles in the American rap mainstream without assists from bulletproof hit-makers like Drake or Cardi. It will be very interesting to see how far Bad Bunny and his Latin trap peers can burrow into pop culture. Lord knows trunk-rattlers like “Chambea” and trap ballads like “Dime Si Te Acuerdas” hold their own against the latest from Tyga or Post Malone. There’s rarely been a better opportunity for a full-fledged crossover, and Bad Bunny is rising to the occasion.
CHART WATCH
For the third week in a row, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born soundtrack is the #1 album in America. Per Billboard, it’s the first soundtrack to spend its first three weeks at #1 in 11 years, since High School Musical 2 in 2007. For theatrical movies, you have to go back to Bad Boys II in 2003.
A Star Is Born is now Lady Gaga’s longest-standing #1 album as well, surpassing Born This Way’s two-week run in 2011. The soundtrack can thank strong sales for its continued dominance: Of its 109,000 equivalent album units this week, 61,000 are from people actually buying a copy of the record. By contrast, Future and Juice WRLD’s collaborative album WRLD On Drugs, which enters at #2 with 98,000 units, only did 8,000 in actual sales. It’s Future’s 10th top 10 album and Juice WRLD’s second following this year
Debuting at #3 with 87,000 units/80,000 sales is Anthem Of The Peaceful Army, the debut full-length by Led Zeppelin enthusiasts Greta Van Fleet. It’s followed at #4 by the debut of Disturbed’s Evolution with 71,000 units/65,000 sales. After Lil Wayne, Lil Baby and Gunna, and Drake comes the #8 debut of Khalid’s Suncity EP with 50,000 units/9,000 sales. Travis Scott and Post Malone round out the top 10.
Over on the Hot 100, Maroon 5 and Cardi B’s “Girls Like You” somewhat surprisingly holds on to #1 for a sixth straight week. Here’s a weird stat via Billboard: It’s now the longest-running #1 hit by a group (defined as three or more people) since MAGIC!’s “Rude” lasted six weeks back in summer ’14.
Hopping from #7 to #2 thanks to the release of its music video is Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode,” which becomes Scott’s highest charting song as a lead artist — this after he went to #2 as a guest on Kodak Black’s “Zeze” last week. “Sicko Mode” also features Drake, who for some reason is not credited as a featured artist on the album but is credited in the video. Juice WRLD’s “Lucid Dreams” remains at #3, followed by Marshmello and Bastille’s “Happier” at a new #4 peak. It’s Marshmello’s biggest US hit to date and ties Bastille’s peak position with 2014’s “Pompeii.” It’s also the first song that has charted on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart to reach the Hot 100 top five this year.
Post Malone’s “Better Now,” Kodak Black/Travis Scott/Offset’s “Zeze,” 5 Seconds Of Summer’s “Youngblood,” and Lil Baby and Gunna’s “Drip Too Hard” are #5 through #8. Another Post Malone song, the Swae Lee duet “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse)” debuts at #9. It’s Post’s fifth top 10 hit and Swae’s second following the French Montana collab “Unforgettable.” Khalid and Normani’s “Love Lies” rounds out the top 10.
POP FIVE
Carly Rae Jepsen – “Party For One” “Run Away With Me” this is not, but it’s good! Good enough that I’m not panicking about the long-awaited follow-up to E*MO*TION. It sounds like CRJ might be angling for radio play, like she did with “I Really Like You” ahead of the last album, before settling into her well-established role as a critically acclaimed underdog-juggernaut. Then again, will radio play a song about “making love to myself” at this point in history? I can’t tell anymore.
Mariah Carey – “A No No” All these new Mariah Carey singles have been fantastic. This one effortlessly infuses its late ’90s R&B core with jittery trap programming and brisk diva house without ever coming close to sounding like “trap house.” It slaps.
Imagine Dragons – “Machine” Coming from arguably the most consistent pop hit-makers in rock, “I’m not a part of your machine, I am the machine” is some kind of twisted spin on Jay-Z’s immortal “I’m not a businessman, I’m a business, man.” As a longtime Imagine Dragons antagonist, I gotta admit, these guys are finding stranger and more inventive ways to be infectiously obnoxious. In this case it’s kinda like “We Will Rock You” crossed with Mr. Big’s “Be With You,” but with an ambiguous message about being your own person, or something.
Mumford & Sons – “If I Say” I feel like Mumford & Sons are getting better at being Coldplay — or, like, Damien Rice fronting Coldplay. Whether I could withstand a whole album of this much melodrama remains to be seen, but this song really goes for it with the orchestration and it pays off.
Kiiara – “L*** Is A Bad Word” Kiiara was a bad word for a while there during her ill-advised post-Iggy rap phase, but this pop move is doing it for me big time. It sounds like they threw everything at the wall, it all stuck, and then they meticulously carved it from there. It sounds like wearing three or four clashing patterns that somehow cohere into a surprisingly pleasing aesthetic. I think the understated vocal amidst so much noise is what seals it.

REVIEWING THE CHARTS: 19th August 2018
This is probably just gonna be a bit of a slap-dash episode since I just finished my list of the best and worst hit songs of 1994 and I’m kinda drained, but we’ll still have to get this out so here it is. REVIEWING THE CHARTS for the week of 19th August, 2018.
Top 10
First of all, we have a new #1... but it’s not exactly new at all, since it has been #1 for a few weeks before, it’s just returned to the top spot after it usurped Drake. I’m not mad at all that this is our new #1 – I may not be fond of it, but it’s better than Drake. George Ezra’s “Shotgun” is up one spot to #1.
Speak of the devil; here’s Drake with “In My Feelings” featuring City Girls, down a space to number-two. I hope it stays there, or better yet, decreases even more, although it still has the stronghold over “Shotgun” in streaming.
Not moving from last week at number-three is “No Brainer” by DJ Khaled featuring Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper and Quavo.
Surprisingly, “Eastside” by benny blanco, Khalid and Halsey has zoomed past competition as it’s increased eight spaces to number-four.
“Rise” by Jonas Blue featuring Jack & Jack has since gone down a single space since the success of “Eastside”, leading it down to number-five.
At number-six, we have a two-space increase for Loud Luxury and brando’s “Body”, which I’m glad is increasing as much as it is, even if it’s just for the fact that they’re both relatively unknown artists.
Oh, yeah, at number-seven, we have “Youngblood” by 5 Seconds of Summer down two spaces.
Unfortunately,”Jackie Chan” by Tiesto and Dzeko featuring Preme and Post Malone has jumped two spaces down to number-eight.
Meanwhile at number-nine, the identical hit has effected “Girls Like You” by Maroon 5 featuring Cardi B, which is ALSO down two spaces.
Thankfully, NOT down two spaces, is “Taste” by Tyga featuring Offset. Not sure how I feel about a pedophile featuring a homophobe having a song (that I personally like) in the top 10 of both the US and UK, but that’s a whole thinkpiece I won’t be writing.
Climbers
Unsurprisingly, there are a few big gains but otherwise nothing of note here. In terms of smaller six-space gains, we (sadly) have “Nevermind” by Dennis Lloyd up to #19 and “Ocean” by Martin Garrix and Khalid up to #25, but we also have an inexplicably massive gain for “079ME” by B Young, up 11 spots to #28. Please don’t let this become a top 20 hit, just for the sake of preventing humanity and society crumbling under your hands. Oh, yeah, and pathetic human being Nicki Minaj had her album Queen release, so naturally “Bed” featuring Ariana Grande (who will also have some gains due to HER album next week) increased up 15 spaces to #23.
Fallers
Naturally, we have two losses for Travis Scott after ASTROWORLD had three tracks debut on the chart last week. “SICKO MODE” featuring Drake and Swae Lee is down six spaces to #15, while “STARGAZING” is, tragically, down 12 to #27. However, there’s only one other loss, and it is just an absolute collapse for “I Like It” by Cardi B featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin, down 17 spaces to #31. It’ll undoubtedly be out next week, unless people revenge-stream Cardi because of the nonsense Nicki’s been spouting for the past two weeks, I don’t know. That probably won’t happen but it’d be kind of funny to see Nicki not get the #1 album after how desperate she was, and then have her “rival” succeed, though pitting female rappers against each other is borderline sexist and does not help normalise females in a more-often-than-not male-dominated genre, which is something Nicki could actually learn from... Huh. Anyway, this isn’t a Nicki Minaj roast, she has a new entry so I think I’ll rant about her there.
Dropouts
Well, we have a few utterly demolished tracks that dropped out this week, like “Butterflies” by AJ Tracey and Not3s now out from #22, “Oh My” by Dappy featuring Ay Em struggling as it’s been kicked out from #27, and “CAROUSEL” by Travis Scott featuring Frank Ocean being pushed out from #29, but that’s it, and there’s no Returning Entries either, so welcome back to:
The Ed Sheeran Update!
“Perfect” is down only a single space to #61, and “Shape of You” is up a single space to #76, somehow. Can these just go away, please?
Now to the part all three of you were waiting for...
NEW ARRIVALS
#40 – “When I Kissed the Teacher” – Lily James, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Alexa Davies and Celia Imrie
You probably shouldn’t be doing that.
Anyways, this is an ABBA cover, straight out of the hit musical Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, which I actually checked out because, my, my, how could I resist it? Well, it’s okay, not particularly my thing, but definitely watchable, however I am surprised that it took this long for a song to get into the top 40. Let me preface this by saying I strongly dislike the ABBA version, mostly because of the... interesting vocals and how everything feels so manufactured and pretty sickeningly sweet, which is incredibly unfitting for the subject matter. I don’t like the song at all, but I’d recommend “Scandalous Scholastics” by Gym Class Heroes for a better take on a student-teacher affair. It’s a pretty awful track but at least it’s a bit groovier and has some darker swagger, as well as an eerie yet catchy chorus, which is actually pretty creepy in some way, especially that it’s implied that 1.) they had sex, 2.) Travie McCoy, the singer, is still in school. He gets into some detail and the charismatic “so sexy!” ad-lib I know Travie for... yeah, well, this is the only time it should not be there, in fact, do NOT check out that song, what am I talking about? It’s horrible.
This cover, though, is somehow even worse. I don’t know who’s singing at what points because, honestly, who cares? Nevertheless, the instrumentation is cookie-cutter yet still over-processed so that it drowns out the singers, who try to belt and struggle, with some not-at-all subtle multi-tracking from seemingly better singers that isn’t helpful at all. I do like that they have more charisma for the most part, making the admittedly funny geometry line sound so much better, and I do appreciate the fact that there are female singers talking about a female teacher – now, that’s cool – although it doesn’t really make much sense in the context of the film, at all, because I’m pretty sure they all have male love interests. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m not sure if your teacher is the best to experiment with, Lily.
#37 – “Don’t Leave Me Alone” – David Guetta featuring Anne-Marie
David Guetta, okay, you’re cool, you’re fine, I like you. Anne-Marie, nope, go away, please. I liked her in “FRIENDS”, initially, but, man, she can definitely become pretty insufferable. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a good singer, but the attitude and forced faux-Jamaican inflections rub me the wrong way. You know what else rubs me the wrong way? How the beginning of the song sounds like stock Windows-activating sound effects. It sounds like it’s a buffering loading screen for God’s sake. Regardless, Anne-Marie sounds okay and I do like the subtle touch of the guitars and especially the piano chords under Anne-Marie and I believe Ed Sheeran harmonising in the pre-chorus, right before a pretty cool Vocaloid drop. I have really grown to love these things, as you can probably tell from my “Solo” review, and this was am especially great one, because the autotune is turned up to insane levels and the vocals sound like they’re stretched and manipulated over the hard-hitting but pleasant synth tones. The combination of the drop and some of the vocal chops with the pre-chorus melody is just fantastic. I can look past the flat production in the verses if that chorus is as incredible as it is. Damn, that surprised me. David Guetta, you win again, and I’m excited for your upcoming album.
#36 – “Barbie Dreams” – Nicki Minaj
Okay, let’s get this over with. This track caused a lot of buzz because it’s basically a tribute to a Notorious B.I.G. song full of light-hearted disses torwards people who she is friends with, and you know, I like a bit of pointless rap beef and some disses can be pretty fire even if they are completely uncalled for. I mean, I prefer hard-hitting, absolutely awful personal disses like when Pusha T slaughtered Drake and held his decapitated head over a building in “The Story of Adidon”, but I like a bit of light-hearted no-harassment-intended jabs so, let’s see what she’s got.
Well, first of all, I love the slick beat and her flow is pretty nice too. Too bad it’s all taken from “Just Playing (Dreams)” by Biggie. This is a remix then? Okay, well, you didn’t preface it as such, but that’s fine, using someone else’s beat isn’t bad as long as you spit some nice bars over it. So, what’s the “Queen of Rap” got for us? Well, she starts with some complements... yep, she just says she wants a man to settle down and have some kids, and either them or the man will look like Lil Wayne or Dave East, but they’re already fathers, so I’m assuming she wants a man who is as good of a dad as Wayne and Dave are to their kids. That’s a very nice thing to say.
Man, I ain’t got no type like Jxmmi and Swae Lee
Okay, but the song you’re referencing by Rae Sremmurd, “No Type”, makes it pretty clear that they’re joking when they say they don’t have a type, given by how they immediately contradict that statement?
I ain’t got no type / Bad b****es is the only thing that I like – Swae Lee, “No Type”
Oh, they’ve actually tried to argue that “bad b****es” are NOT a type? Okay, well, then, secondly: That’s not a diss, that’s just mentioning them in passing.
Then she gets into some admittedly funny (and probably true) disses to 50 Cent, making some nice wordplay with other members of G-Unit like Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks. That’s all fine and dandy. Then she mentions Karreuche Tran... Tran... Tran...
Used to f*** with Young Thug, I ain’t addressin’ this s**t / C-caught him in my dressing room, stealing dresses and s**t
Okay, well, that’s insensitive and incredibly uncalled for. If the dude wants to reject typical gender norms, more power to him, but Thugger, you probably shouldn’t be stealing her dresses, man, and I’m pretty sure this is related to that, and is no way meant to be offensive or transphobic.
They switchin’ like sissies now – Nicki Minaj, “Majesty”
On the same album? Uh, I mean, well, okay, but maybe that’s also misinterpreted...
First they love you, then they switch / Yeah, they switch like f****ts
Yeah, okay, 1.) I’m not uncensoring that word, you know what it is, and 2.) Yikes, Nicki! I know that was back in 2009 but these recent lines prove you haven’t changed, in fact, all of these recent antics prove you haven’t changed, at all! You collaborate with a pedophile, then you try and play the feminist angle – after collaborating with an absolute scumbag who respects women as much as a tampon made out of bricks – to explain why your album didn’t get to #1, although it still sold pretty well, even though you don’t label yourself as a feminist as you’ve stated before. In fact, this whole track is just to stir up controversy and attention, isn’t it? You wanted that #1 album so desperately that you added a song that’s not even by you to your album, then you put out a lot of trash merch, some of which was promoting 6ix9ine, all of which came with a copy of your album, made JAY-Z give you a discount code on TIDAL that literally gave the album away for free, however, due to a faulty system, made all albums on TIDAL free to download, probably causing serious financial issues in the future for Jay, leading to him having to release the rest of Prince’s discography onto Spotify (not necessarily a bad thing), and reported fake news when you were projected to sell 190,000, only to be proved to sell less when the final numbers were released, all for a #1 album, which you only wanted out of spite for Cardi being more successful than you, because, I don’t know, she’s not an absolutely trash human being who doesn’t know how to promote a damn album? I guess you could say the TIDAL issue wasn’t her fault, but, yes, it was, as if it wasn’t for her own desperate need for a #1, the code wouldn’t exist at all. At least that’s only one line, right? She doesn’t cross the line otherwise.
Shout-out Desiigner ‘cause he made it out of special ed
You called a man struggling to hold onto his crippling career which is still under the hands of Pusha T’s mismanagement, being forced to constantly promote himself because his label definitely isn’t, who’s probably in debt right now, and just desperately trying to pick up the pieces to still live while doing what he wants to do – music, trapped under a label that doesn’t let him succeed, who released a better and more consistent EP this year than any project you’ve ever put out, retarded because of the energy he puts into his songs, which you, missy, are severely lacking in, despite the fact that your mentor and person you want your husband to be like, Lil Wayne, was in the same dire situation for nearly a decade, and you and Drake have been carrying him and helping him still strive in the industry while he’s being trampled on and confined by the tyrant of a label owner Birdman? Yeah, nope, not having it, you’ve lost all my respect, Nicki. I don’t usually focus on lyrics as much as I did here but when they’re this ignorant and disgusting, I think I’ll stream Cardi instead, you petty, little child.
Conclusion
“Don’t Leave Me Alone” easily gives David Guetta and Anne-Marie the title of Best of the Week, as Nicki Minaj takes Worst of the Week for “Barbie Dreams”. Hopefully I’ll have calmed down by next time. See ya!

The Daily Drive Debut
Tumblr media
Today is the day for the debut of The Daily Drive, a daily look at what’s going on not only with the L.A. Rams, but also in the NFL, the media, and the sports world.
Today also happens to be the eve of the 2017 NFL Draft, which is almost as exciting as Christmas Eve. I say almost because while the Draft begins tomorrow night, the Rams will not be making their first pick until the second round, which starts on Friday.
So we will begin the debut of The Daily Drive with a look at the top five players that I would like the Rams to select with the 37th overall pick
AROUND COVER32
2017 NFL Draft: Taking a look at the odds of how the 49ers will spend the 2nd overall pick
cover32 Exclusive: Part 2 of the Raiders’ interview with Las Vegas Mayor, Carolyn Goodman
NFL Draft Prospect Spotlight: Exclusive one-on-one interview with Eastern Illinois WR prospect, Isaiah Nelson

Corey Davis
Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan
If the Rams want to succeed, they must surround Goff with offensive weapons.
John Ross, WR, Washington
If the Rams want to succeed, they must surround Goff with offensive weapons
Curtis Samuel, WR, Ohio State
If the Rams want to succeed, they must surround Goff with offensive weapons
Zay Jones, WR, East Carolina
If the Rams want to succeed, they must surround Goff with offensive weapons
JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, USC
If the Rams want to succeed, they must surround Goff with offensive weapons
I guess what I am trying to say is that Goff needs more offensive weapons. With a revamped offensive line, and a sturdy backfield, the Rams should now look to upgrade the wide receiver position.
Goff and the Rams lost their two biggest receiving “playmakers” from last season Kenny Britt and Brian Quick.
Currently Tavon Austin is the WR1 for the Rams, while Robert Woods (who does still have good potential) is penciled in at the WR2 position.
After that things get a little shaky.
Between Bradley Marquez, Pharoh Cooper, Nelson Spruce, and Michael Thomas, the next four up on the depth chart at WR, are 33 career catches, for 268 yards, and 0 touchdowns.
This year’s Draft is pretty loaded at the wide receiver position, and the Rams should look to pick up at least one of them.
The Rams also announced this past week who would be announcing the Rams draft picks, and there are some pretty big names on the list.

Jack Youngblood
37th pick Rams HOF DE Jack Youngblood
69th pick Former Rams RBSteven Jackson
112th pick Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and Michael Cudlitz (Abraham)
141st pick US Olympian and former LA Galaxy soccer player Cobi Jones
149th pick Rams HOF T Jackie Slater
189th pick Watts Bears Youth Football Team
206th pick Wilmington Carson Pilots Youth Football Team
OTHER NFL DRAFT NOTES
Are the Browns really going to be able to pick up both Myles Garrett and Mitch Trubisky?
The latest rumor surrounding the Cleveland Browns is that they will try to obtain Myles Garrett and Mitch Trubisky. The Browns, who hold the first and 12th picks in the NFL Draft, are hoping that Trubisky, someone they had been considering at #1, could fall to #12, but are also looking at other options, including making a move with the Titans, who have the fifth overall pick.
How will diluted drug tests effect first round talents?
Two of the top defensive players available in the 2017 Draft both recently failed drug tests due to diluted samples. Jabrill Peppers, safety from Michigan, and Ruben Foster, linebacker from Alabama, both turned in diluted samples. It will be interesting too see how this will affect their draft stock, if at all.
The Running Backs
This year’s draft is loaded with running back talent, from first round talent to late round talent, and it will be interesting to see where each one of them lands. Leonard Fournette is most likely going to be a top 10 pick, but after that Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook, and even Alvin Kamara could be off the board after the first round. As for late round talent, there are the likes of Wayne Gallman, Brian Hill, Marlon Mack, D’Onta Foreman, and Joe Mixon, who could go anywhere in the draft.
Overall the 2017 NFL Draft, like all of the others, will be full of great storylines, great picks, and big blunders.
AROUND THE WORLD OF SPORTS
Although the writing has been on the wall for quite some time now, today was finally the day.
ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports, laid off around 100 employees.
Network President John Skipper sent a message to ESPN employees Wednesday morning letting them know that the company would be announcing layoffs.
“A necessary component of managing change involves constantly evaluating how we best utilize all of our resources, and that sometimes involves difficult decisions,” Skipper wrote. “Our content strategy – primarily illustrated in recent months by melding distinct, personality-driven SportsCenter TV editions and digital-only efforts with our biggest sub-brand – still needs to go further, faster … and as always, must be efficient and nimble. Dynamic change demands an increased focus on versatility and value, and as a result, we have been engaged in the challenging process of determining the talent – anchors, analysts, reporters, writers and those who handle play-by-play – necessary to meet those demands. We will implement changes in our talent lineup this week. A limited number of other positions will also be affected and a handful of new jobs will be posted to fill various needs.”
Deadspin ran a running list of people who were let go on Wednesday, a list that included some pretty big names. Jay Crawford, Ed Werder, Jayson Stark, Trent Dilfer, Brett McMurphy and Danny Kanell where some of the bigger names who were let go.
One takeaway from the recent cuts is that ESPN might be in bigger trouble than we think. They weren’t simply “trimming the fat”. ESPN let go most of their NHL writers, and some important insiders. Ethan Strauss, the Golden State Warriors insider, was let go in the middle of the NBA Playoffs.

REVIEWING THE CHARTS: 23rd July 2018
Welp, nothing happened. Very stale week for the most part.
Top 10
Delightful – the worst single Drake’s released since “Pop Style”, “In My Feelings” featuring uncredited vocals from the City Girls, has gone up three spots from last week’s debut, making it our current chart-topper, surprisingly not replacing Drake himself, but we’ll get to that. At least City Girls, Magnolia Shawty’s family and Lil Wayne are getting money from this being #1 in both the UK and US. God knows they deserve it, well, at least Wayne.
“Shotgun” by George Ezra is somehow still at number-two. This song has a surprising amount of longevity.
Oh, yeah, “Solo” by Clean Bandit featuring Demi Lovato has also kept its place at number-three, which is cool.
Now, we have our first debut on the charts, which, similarly to last week, had its first-week charting position at number-four, the controversially-titled “God is a woman” (yes, it’s stylised in sentence case for no reason) by Ariana Grande, the second single from her upcoming album Sweetener.
Oh, yeah, Drake just won’t leave, as “Don’t Matter to Me” with Michael Jackson and Paul Anka is at a standstill at number-five.
“Rise” by Jonas Blue featuring Jack & Jack is up a spot to number-six. Just lovely.
“Girls Like You” by Maroon 5 featuring Cardi B is also up that single position to number-seven.
“Youngblood” by 5 Seconds of Summer has jumped up three spaces to entering the top 10, at number-eight, and yeah, this definitely deserves it. Good song.
Talking about songs that deserve to finally enter the top 10, “Jackie Chan” by Tiesto and Dzeko featuring Preme and Post Malone has also taken a three-space increase right to number-nine.
Oh, and because of the album hype lessening and dying down, “If You’re Over Me” by Years & Years kind of collapses four spaces to number-ten. It seems to be on its way out, and I’m pretty sure that’s a good thing.
Climbers
There’s not really that many notables this week, but we do have Tyga’s “Taste” featuring Offset entering the top 20 as it moves up eight spaces to #16, “Only You” by Cheat Codes and Little Mix doing the same as it hits #19 after a nine-space increase. “Ring Ring” by Jax Jones featuring Mabel and Rich the Kid also had a lesser increase, only jumping up six spaces to #23.
Fallers
There’s only one fall of note here, but it’s pretty damn interesting how Tom Walker’s “Leave a Light On” just suddenly crashed down 15 spaces to #31... I know adverts only have a short impact on the charts, but I’m surprised by how this was just in free-fall this week, especially since I’ve actually heard it gain some traction on radio... except I checked the statistics and it’s done exactly the opposite. This song massively fell on UK airplay charts, to the point where it’s neck and neck with Meghan freaking Trainor. Yikes.
Dropouts & Returning Entries
Guys, we have just witnessed a chart history milestone: Last week’s #1, “Three Lions” by David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and the Lightning Seeds dropped from the top of the charts to #97, which means it experienced the biggest ever dropout from the top 40 (from #1) and the biggest decrease in UK Singles Chart history, having a 96-space fall. That’s kind of impressive in the weirdest way. I suppose we as a country were so crushed by Croatia winning against us that we decided to crush this song’s chances of any longevity, which I’m not necessarily complaining about, honestly.
Other drop outs from the top 40 include “These Days” by Rudimental featuring Jess Glynne, Dan Caplen and Macklemore, right after it returned for a brief stint at #40 last week, as well as “Moonlight” by XXXTENTACION out from #37. Last week’s incredibly convenient returning entry, “American Idiot” by punk-rockers Green Day is now out from #25, also.
Oh, and “This is Me” by Keala Settle and the Greatest Showman Ensemble is back again at #37, just go away, already!
Now for a new feature:
The Ed Sheeran Update
On this show, we often talk about Ed Sheeran and his inexplicable chart success, well, I figured I’d add something to shake up the formula: a short feature where we talk about how Ed Sheeran fared in the top 100. Well, “Shape of You” jumped up 13 spaces to #73 for no reason at all, and “Perfect” is up three spaces to #58.
Oh, yeah, and “Mr. Brightside” by the Killers? Still holding on. In fact, it just returned to #99 this week.
NEW ARRIVALS
#34 – “Ocean” – Martin Garrix and Khalid
So, this song has been bubbling under for a while now, but on a slow week, it actually was able to have a pretty high debut. It’s no surprise to see Khalid on an EDM track, either, as he also sang on “Silence” by Marshmello last year, and has collaborated with Calvin Harris, albeit on a decidedly very non-EDM track. Well, how does this song compare to the countless collaborations Khalid has popped up with in the last few months?
Well, it doesn’t, at all, because, frankly, I don’t think this song even exists. It’s such a non-presence that after I listened to it – four times, may I add – I could barely even remember the hook’s melody. It has an annoying an unnecessary synth sound that goes on throughout the whole thing, but it had a decently complex drum beat, and Khalid’s performance is smooth as always, even when he dips into his falsetto, but damn, that pre-chorus build-up is powerful. Honestly, this drop is so much of a mess that I’m surprised I have no memory of it. There’s some vocal samples all intertwined with a fast-paced orchestral string loop that only plays once throughout the whole drop, even though it could definitely add a lot of “oomph” to the track, then there’s an out-of-place acoustic guitar riff that is again, the only time you notice that instrument at all in this song. I don’t have any real complaints with this song – it’s mixed near-perfectly (even if I’d appreciate more accentuation on the bass), Khalid’s fantastic, and I’m not saying the all-over-the-place drop is bad, necessarily, it’s just kind of... intangible.
When a song is named after a place or an emotion, you’re going to have to feel that translating into the composition, even if it is completely without lyrics. I think that’s why I’m more appreciative of “SAD!” than a lot of people – you can tell that it successfully, even if you hate it – well, especially if you hate it, makes you sad or at least gets you to realise the effort into making it sound sad. “Plastic Beach” by Gorillaz is another good comparison in terms of places, as it is stiff and noisy like plastic but it still has wave sound effects to paint the background, joyous synths and whale-related lyrics (delivered in a rather plastic monotone), that create a beautiful contrast between the plastic and the beach. It feels like an artificial shore... but “Ocean” is only an ocean in name. It’s weaksauce EDM, that doesn’t feel as powerful as an ocean and definitely isn’t upsetting in any way to capture the “blue” colour of a wave. This is why I like CamelPhat so much. “Panic Room” is urgent but still kind of trapped in a confined space, “Cola” is constantly shaking it up, like a can of coke. They are EDM producers who make the titles fit and matter, but “Ocean”... nah, I can’t feel this. Next.
#30 – “Summertime Magic” – Childish Gambino
Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, recently dropped a surprise-release Summer-themed two-track R&B EP called Summer Pack and the first track of two, obviously gained the most traction. Last time I talked about Glover on this show was when “This is America” debuted, and I wasn’t very impressed, but from what I heard, this new EP harkens back to his 2016 album “Awaken, My Love!”, which I loved, so hopefully I’ll dig this.
Well, it’s less disjointed than “This is America” but it’s definitely not as exciting, as it starts with some dreadfully boring steel pans with barely any accompaniment other than the reverb they’re soaked in, then Gambino comes in and starts singing over some admittedly nice synths, before the hook – which, for a lyrical wordsmith, is oddly and infuriatingly repetitive, especially since it’s full of nonsense words – which covers Gambino’s decent voice in just DJ Mustard-like bass and extra percussion, which definitely picks things up a bit, but not enough. It feels like Summer, alright, but it tries its hardest not to, with all the rain effects and the pretty dreary melodies that surround the vocals that could have made a pretty damn good pop song.
#4 – “God is a woman” – Ariana Grande
I know a lot of people are worried about Sweetener, but personally, I’ve liked all the singles released from it prior to this track, which stirred some controversy for its pretty clickbait title. Of course, the song doesn’t even dare to trip into any religious or political territory, no, it’s a sex song. Why is it called “God is a woman”? Well, because, sex with Ariana is apparently so good that the man will believe afterwards that God is a woman, because the sex was heavenly, yeah, you get the gist. It’s pretty obvious that Grande wouldn’t get right-wing nuts complaining, or a debut this high for a single like this, if it wasn’t for the clickbait-level title. Honey, just make a good, safe song and you will have success, it happened with “no tears left to cry” just a few weeks back. It’s a pretty dumb move to resort to tactics like this when Grande’s such a big star with such a loyal fanbase that people will stream this no matter what you call it.
Oh, yeah, and this song? Well I like the vocal melody here, it’s really nice in the hook, especially when Grande starts to sing more seductively over a surprisingly hard-hitting trap beat, with some heavy bass and a blocky, yet pretty slick drum pattern that makes Grande subconsciously start making Lil Pump-like “yuh” ad-libs in between the lines on the pre-chorus. There’s also a choir of a chorus harmonising with multi-tracked Grande voices, which sing pretty beautifully while Grande belts out some ad-libs. This whole song is so tight and constricted yet has a great final release as its climax, so unlike “Ocean, everything feels worth it by the end.
Conclusion
“God is a woman” by Ariana Grande takes Best of the Week home, obviously, but nothing else here is good or bad, it’s all just kind of a boring middle-ground. See you next week!
