im in love with your hawke and the way you stylize her šŸ˜ can i ask abt hasna's (was that her name?) decisions and relationship with the cast, as a friend/lover/rival and big sis :3 da2 is very companion/approval-disapproval heavy game so i got really curious about that. Because learning these makes you learn about the character
(i hope you'd feel safe answering this tho because from what I've seen you don't mind having thoughts straying from fandom's most popular takes, and DA ain't really the best fandom, but we're in veilguard era rn so who cares lol)
Thank you!! Hasna is my little morally dubious almost 7ft tall lesbian blood mage. She has good intentions at her core and is very self-sacrificing but her execution is extremely poor. I'll put it under the read-more because this is just a block of text
I usually don't have the chance to flesh her out a lot because most of my brain rot fixates on Asma but she is very special to me. As for relationships, Hasna is either an opposites attract or is just looking for validation for her beliefs. She has a lot in common with characters like Sebastian and Fenris - I don't know if I ever stated it before but Hasna is a devout Andrastian - and she has very critical views of her fellow mages, who she believes she is above.
Magic cannot be made safe, so it must be controlled, and she represents that control: She doesn't falter; she is a perfectionist, a believer, a patron of the templar order, and Kirkwall's savior. In her own way, her body and mind are her circle.
It's why she is constantly at odds with Anders, who represents everything her personal ideology is against. He is the embodiment of a mage's lack of control and the exact idea that Hasna has spent her life fighting against, which makes it all the more infuriating to her when she sees what he does to the Chantry in the final act of the game. She spent ten years of her life proving to others that Mages can control their magic and fit into society just as she had for some guy from the sewers to ruin it in ten seconds.
I think my favorite aspect about her is that she is a hypocrite and projects a lot of her insecurities on others, especially when it comes to control. She easily resorts to blood magic because she doesn't think she is strong enough - could always be stronger - in battle, but will criticize other mages resorting to it out of fear. Her reasonings are righteous, theirs are weak, etc etc.
I think she has a really interesting relationship with Isabela because while their views on life are completely different, Hasna views Isabela as almost what she wishes she could be. She wishes Isabela's life was her life. Uncaring, free, laidback, just nothing but the ocean ahead of you - Hasna lives almost vicariously through her and experiences Isabela's happiness as if it were her own. Isabela is the only one who knows about her blood magic because she's the only one who wouldn't hold it against her, Merrill would point out her hypocrisy and Varric would view her differently, Isabela just accepts it. Hasna is the one who actually pushes Carver to join the Templar order in the beginning, as she believes it is a way she can still protect and watch over him while being entrenched in Templar politics.
Thats a brief Hasna summary! definitely not the standard Hawke lmaooo I used to care about the Dragon Age fandom takes but I cannot do it anymore bc 1) this fandom is extremely preformative and values pixel wizard discourse over everything 2) it is very boring to have the same perfect angel characters three times in a row I love giving them flaws and making them more like real complex people
Thank you!

For the ask game! 6, 12, 13 for " get me a damned matcha" and 18!!
hi lucy!! ngl i completely forgot that i reblogged this even tho it was like 20 minutes ago LMAO thats the state of my mental wellbeing atm tbh
come send me some writer asks!
6. What character(s) do you find it most difficult to write?
for matcha specifically? hmm, i know i really struggled with reader at first, because i wanted the vibe of levi hating her at first for being what he thought was a "stereotypical undergrad" but i also wanted some sort of character dev? and i feel like what would push levi to begin seeing her in a different light would have been the fact that she had real life shit going on too. plus who doesn't love protagonists with tragic backstories (āœæā—”ā€æā—”) and ofc the x reader anti's are gonna wanna come at me about her not being a "blank slate applies to everyone character", but y'all can lick my clit and that's the only thing i'm gonna say about that topic ofc there's always discourse about who writes levi well and in character blah blah blah, so i definitely have those intrusive thoughts, in both matcha and oneshots! i think i struggled with petra a bit. i wanted to portray her as someone who does care about the reader to some extent, but still have that plotline of the reader feeling like she's not really connecting with anyone. i think sometimes petra also gets portrayed in a very negative light so i didn't want to give that vibe off either IDK
12. The funniest comment someone has left on a fic of yours?
tbh any of the comments during the mutual pining arc when they kept dancing around their feelings for each other. y'all were SO PISSED that oluo cockblocked them šŸ˜šŸ˜ i also got a silly comment about thinking they were still enemies mid-mutual pining arc that pissed me off and upset me at the time, but now it's like satirical comedy. if you're not going to bother reading the actual fic, then don't bother commenting!
13. Inspiration for matcha?
well, i think i read Feeling's Mutual, which got me all ouuuu about a college au hehe. and then this oneshot i wrote made me all curious about a forced roommates au! and then you guys all voted for barista!levi, hence the combination of a college, roommates, and coffeeshop au (āœæā—”ā€æā—”) a lot of the chapters are inspired by my own struggles with undergrad tbh, because i didn't have a particularly great time either. unfortunately, i did not have a levi in my life at the time to make it better (tragic). but i did struggle with feeling that pressure to socialize and party even though i adamantly hated it. felt that same pressure with being unable to keep up with grades in undergrad because of real life stuff (in my case it was mental illness LMAO). tbh this was a fic that wrote itself lmao i have NO IDEA how i was able to produce such a lengthy thing when i'm currently over here struggling just to plot out 10 chapters for this dumb mafia au
18. How'd you come up with the title for matcha?
well, it's a recurring theme and one of the first ways that levi communicates his love language for her! even when he was still convinced that he was still irritated by her lmaooo i think the other fic title i was thinking of was "found family" (because a big theme is the reader finding her found family in levi šŸ˜) but it just didn't sit as well with me tbh

hi long post anonā€¦ againšŸ˜
yes ā€œruleā€ is more so used as ā€œunspoken boundaryā€
and its a lil concerning anon didnā€™t pick that up when the explanation is right under that specific quote they pickedšŸ˜
like have fun but donā€™t get caught up in thinking that just because you write something that is fiction that your muse is gonna wanna see it
not only is this just to be safe/respectful morally but even legally in terms of copywrite
thats why mainstream authors donā€™t want people to send them fanfic because the author may accidentally add from the fic subconsciously. Or coincidentally they added it because it was an idea that you two happened to think of at the same time before you ever sent the fic or the author opened your letter/email.
this leaves people to then be able to claim the author stole content whether intentional or not.
but also in terms of morals, it just says that you respect how an author views their relationship with THEIR work by not making your interpretations aware to the author. many authors work hard to establish their worlds/characters and may feel put off if they feel someone has mischaracterized their work or morphed it into something they donā€™t recognize within the canon of their universe. not to say that the fic isnā€™t good but essentially you dont come into someone elseā€™s home and tell them how to decorate.
and in terms of real life people, it keeps your muse from seeing how you characterize them which may not be a reflection of their own self-actualization. and again it can mess with how people see themselves. or almost feel like theyā€™re being harassed to reveal something about themselves because fics with certain characterizations are being thrown in their face. like ā€œi know something about you, you should just say it already.ā€
its not to say that a nonbinary or autistic headcannon isnā€™t valid but sending it to someone may feel like projection to that very real person.
like jungkook may not take offense to being called nonbinary or trans but if thats not his actual lived experience, then sending him fics or making him aware that youā€™ve ā€œheadcannonedā€ him as such would be crossing a line.
its like saying ā€œoh im going to disregard how and what youā€™ve being willing to share about yourself publicly until you possibly give in and out yourself.ā€
we saw this with the actor who plays the bisexual boyfriend in Heartstoppers. people -mainly other queer people- couldnā€™t separate the actor from his role and kept poking him to come out until he actually did. just because the internet was right about him being queer, doesnā€™t mean they were morally right for pressuring him.
its like receiving a ā€œloveā€ letter from an unreliable narrator in which they detail how you smiled at them once which meant you were ā€œobviouslyā€ flirting; when in reality, you -the person who knows your own feelings- only smiled cuz you were just being nice. doesnā€™t mean you arenā€™t a lover; it just means that your love hasnā€™t been extent towards them.
if Jungkook is nonbinary, heā€™s is for himself; not to reaffirm some preconceived notion Army have. he exists outside our collective thought and doesnā€™t need fic to convince him of his identity or lack there of.
basically this rule is a ā€œcurtesyā€ that we should extend to ALL people. so unless they ask, donā€™t show your fanfic to your muse, friends.
ugh i keep ending up long windedšŸ˜šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø
but this has been fun discourse and hopefully it enlightens someone cuz that what social change is supposed to došŸ’œ
thank you for explaining a little deeper, my lovely.
literally iā€™d go missing and youā€™d never hear from me again if bts were to read anything iā€™ve written, itā€™s not made for them šŸƒā€ā™€ļøšŸƒā€ā™€ļø my worst nightmare is them perceiving me LMAO
and i think i can speak on behalf of most writers that what we write, either it be bts as gay or anything of the sort, is no way for us as writers to push the boys to come out or feel as though they should identify a certain way. as iā€™ve reiterated like a million times within the last couple of hours, itā€™s all a story, not there to project onto anyone in real life. i donā€™t sit in my bedroom and scheme up ways to force an agenda onto bts, iā€™m just trying to have a good time and little fun and if iā€™m doing something wrong then at least iā€™m aware now and can improve as a person
iā€™m not saying, as a straight fact any of the members are gay, or that they specifically go by they/them pronouns. if he does identify as anything above then thatā€™s super cool too and he doesnā€™t owe me or anyone else anything, and thatā€™s fine!! but me writing a non binary jungkook is in no way me saying that is how he should be or is in real life. idk why that point hasnā€™t come across for some people yet šŸƒā€ā™€ļø
anyways, thank you again for taking the time to explain!! you definitely deserve a yummy snack after all this, and youā€™re super cool and very smart!! so thank you for taking the time out of your day to talk about such a kinda weird but very interesting topic with me šŸ«‚

okay spoilers for anyone who hasnt listened to the last 15 minutes of the last episode!!
-
-
i have been studiously avoiding any fanart or anything because im scared to death of spoilers so i have no idea about the public opinion. and one thing about me is that i am easily swayed so i am going to jot down my opinions yet unaffected but the masses so i have a reference point:
i have a very strong feeling that the duck/minerva pairing was contentious (i say was because this was four years ago) but honestly i think its sweet. i like the comedic potential and also i can anticipate the age difference discourse and say that duck newton is a fourty year old man he can make decisions for himself. the thing is though is that i really do like indrid and honestly disagree with him going to sylvane. i think he should have stayed on earth i think that would have been more fun. anyway since technically we have zero information on what hes doing my personal theory is that they are in a weird little polycule because that is SO funny to me. duck is no longer a chosen one so now he really is just Some Guy. Local Man in a relationship with 8 foot tall lesbian and mothman
one of the things ive stumbled upon is barclay/ stern which was so fucking bizzare to me i actually started laughing out loud. wont lie you guys really will ship anyone but that is so real.
something that isnt exactly a criticism but was just sort of funny to me is how everyone seemed to love ned immediately after his death even though no one liked him while he was alive. like i really do adore ned but why would they like him so much šŸ˜ it isnt a big thing because i also enjoy some good ned chicane content but if they straight up name the city after him that would be the funniest thing in the world like imagine your city being named after some honestly kinda shitty dude who wasnt even from there. best decision ever
i dont have much to say on aubrey/dani its just really sweet tbh. i was sorta hoping dani would have a full villain arc so we could get that good sapphic drama but it was still fun
thacker i think was underwhelming but i get it cause they really didnt have time to develop him but i honestly think he could have been a lot more interesting but clint's playing style doesnt really fit the vibe. i didnt mind it but i just wish thacker was.... worse. more feral maybe
i dont have much to say on the plot because ill be so real with you i do not listen to the adventure zone for the plot. its a great side effect but by god it is not the main thing for me.
thats about it for now i think if i think of anything ill jot it down but ill probably go finally look in the tag and see what others think so it might get skewed
done with taz amnesty. i promise i wont be too annoying on this blog

My Our flag means death hot takes šŸ„µšŸ”„Ā
(Except most of them are frankly not very controversial and Iā€™m really not looking to argue lol)
All Izzy Hands discourse would be solved if people online started analyzing him like he was an interesting plot component that serves ofmdā€™s themes and not a real person who needs to be held accountable for his actions
Additionally, all Izzy Hands discourse is stupid and exhausting
Black Pete is criminally underrated in the fandom despite being a very prominent character in the show. Heā€™s absolutely hilarious, I can name so many moments with him that made me bust out laughing. We need more Pete appreciation.
Its a big pet peeve of mine when ofmd fan content has the characters talk/think about their sexualities and gender identities with modern language and sensibilities. One of the reasons I think everything is so normalized and no big deal on the revenge is because they have no concept of what being ā€œlgbtā€ is. Itā€™s just, ā€œI only like to fuck guysā€ and ā€œI donā€™t like being treated like Iā€™m a guy or a girlā€. Trying to put these characters into boxes and label them with labels that they would have never used just feels awkward to me. Itā€™s much more interesting when people explore how Ofmdā€™s queer characters would rationalize and explore their identities without having any technical words to describe themselves. Itā€™s really comforting to me as someone who often times gets stressed over not being able to properly label myself.
I think Jim is in a different genre just as much (if not more) than Izzy. Every time it cuts to one of their subplots itā€™s like being transported to a cowboy revenge movie. I totally get the ā€œIzzy is in the wrong genreā€ meme, I find it absolutely hilarious, but it just seems kinda weird to me that Jim is frankly the much better fit for that type of joke and Iā€™ve literally seen no one recognize that. We need more ā€œJim is in the wrong genreā€ content, pretty much
I donā€™t want Stedeā€™s character development in season two to be him becoming a badass more competent and rugged pirate. Iā€™ve seen a lot of people who really want that to happen and the idea of it actually makes my skin crawl. The only time weā€™ve ever seen Stede behave the way weā€™d expect a pirate to behave (the ā€œunhand me or bleedā€ scene) was because he was feeling trapped, lonely, and unlike himself. I am definitely down to see Stede spiral down a path similar to that, where he becomes more violent and pirate-y out of desperation or something, but I REALLY donā€™t want this to be presented as necessary and positive character development. The theme of ofmd is that ā€œthereā€™s more than one way to be a manā€, and piracy and the expectations around it are often times used to represent manhood. Stede being an unconventional pirate who wears fancy outfits and doesnā€™t like blood is essential to this theme, and if he were to subdue or grow out of these traits to fit into the more standard mold the literal villains of the series want him to fit in it would be a betrayal of his character.
All of your ā€œOFMD Season 2 sound track predictionsā€ playlists are wrong Iā€™m sorry šŸ˜šŸ˜ guys theirs not going to be any mitski, MCR, or Billie Eilish songs in s2 two please take a walk āœ‹šŸ¼
Additionally, the only ABBA song I want in season two is SOS. It fits the tone and the plot perfectly, gimme gimme gimme or lay all your love on me would just seem out of place.
While weā€™re on the subject of season two, you guys know that ofmd isnā€™t just a show about representation, right? Our flag means death obviously has fabulous queer and poc rep, and thatā€™s great! But just because those things are a part of the appeal doesnā€™t mean thats the entire purpose of the show. People often criticize ofmd by saying things like ā€œthere werenā€™t enough women, there shouldā€™ve been more women charactersā€. Our flag means death is a show about (and Iā€™ll say this again) masculinity, and the many ways someone can be a man. So of course, most of the characters are men. Just because ofmd is a show known for its positive representation doesnā€™t mean itā€™s obligated to include every minority that could possibly benefit from that. And I would totally understand if the critic was ā€œOfmdā€™s female characters arenā€™t well writtenā€, but no oneā€™s saying that! The few women characters in ofmd are adored by the fandom and amazingly well written. So I donā€™t see what the problem is, there are stories about queer women and women of color that focus on the unique experiences and struggles they face, but ofmd isnā€™t one of those stories, nor did it ever claim to be.
I donā€™t think Izzy hates Calico Jack like a bunch of the fandom seemed to decide. They obviously have very similar world views and motivations, and at least some history (jack calls Izzy a sentimental bastard, ffs). Itā€™s more likely to me that Izzy sought out Jackā€™s help trusting that he was putting Ed in good hands then as a begrudging last minute ā€œwhich one of Edā€™s exs is most likely to agree to thisā€ kinda thing.
All of the canon couples in the show got a partially on screen sex scene (even Mary and Doug, cā€™mon now). When Stede and Ed patch things up and become an actual couple they are 100% going to be at least implied to have had sex, I bet on it
This isnā€™t a hot take tbh, but itā€™s pretty funny to mention that my ā€œomg theyā€™re not queerbaitingā€ moment wasnā€™t ā€œyou wear fine things wellā€ or the ep6 opening monologue or this is happening, no, I was absolutely certain that they werenā€™t playing around because of the pee scene. You heard me, THE PEE SCENE. The pee scene was my heart stopper
Anyways thatā€™s pretty much all Iā€™ve got at the moment, ik I have more spicy hot smoking takes somewhere in my deteriorating brain but I canā€™t find them rn, so stay tuned for a part two if I ever decide I want to break tumblr again with my epic never before seen opinions
