Every time I see a picture of DA2 Cullen I’m just reminded of a playthough I streamed with my friend on call and every single time we’d swing by to talk to Cullen my friend would say “lift the skirt pretty boy”. Now DA2 Cullen is forever immortalized in my brain as just lift the skirt pretty boy

Happy international Romani Day! This year with the ongoing genocide against Palestinians i would like to draw attention to the Dom people in Palestine. The Dom and Roma people are not the same as the groups left India at different times and using different routes but they share similar origins and face similar struggles and oppression. There are estimated 2.2 million Dom people in the Middle East and North Africa. The Palestinian Dom people live in West Bank, Gaza and occupied Jerusalem. The biggest Dom community is in Gaza — around 12,000-15,000 people were living there when the war started, but nobody knows how many of them are still alive.

The Domari Society is a non-profit organization based in Jerusalem aiming to improve the conditions of the Dom people, founded by Amoun Sleem who's interviewed in the recent article linked above. The Domari Society is unique for being founded and organized by the Dom community itself and has done incredible work such as providing education for children and women and preserving the endangered Domari language. The organization relies on donations to fund its activities and i recommend donating to them if you want to support the Palestinian Dom people in this particularly difficult time. Just raising awareness about the Dom and their situation is important too even if you can't donate

An Update on Tahseen's Campaign

Tahseen (@tahseenmush) has been fundraising for his family for a year. He is a father from the North of Gaza who has been doing his best to support his family. Tahseen's family has been starving for months, and he has been doing everything he can to raise the funds he needs to take care of them.

It's been a full year, and Tahseen is not even halfway to his goal. Prior to this past week, the last donations he received were 3-4 weeks apart. Currently, he is at €24k/€60k, and his campaign is moving very slowly. Here is the link to his GFM:

the “Israel controls the United States” takes are kind of annoying in a bunch of different ways because 1) they veer into antisemitism and 2) The United States and Israel have a symbiotic relationship. The US is Israel’s supplier and supporter of their colonial and genocidal endeavors - Israel is the US’s glorified military outpost to protect their own genocidal interests in the region. They both need each other. In my opinion I think it also places too much emphasis on Israel as being the crux of the issue and not accounting for the fact that both the US and Israel are inherently evil - they are both fascist settler colonial endeavors - neither is redeemable! Israel doesn’t control the United States, the United States is just functioning as it was meant to be.

Thank you so much! I have been drawing my whole life but I started digital art when I was around 14 or 15, so around 8 years. I use CSP! I really like it and coughed up the money for CSP PRO (I think I have version 3). I have it on desktop and my tablet <3

I was wondering if there are any historical Palestinian paintings (similar in age and cultural influence as the western painting you referenced in your last piece) that you admire? And would you ever make an illustration based off of it (again similar to your latest Asma and Cullen piece)?

Hi thank you!! I’m so glad you like my stuff! I'm so so sorry if this is long because it's such a simple question but the answer is a bit complicated.

I will just say painting people like 100+ years ago is something that’s not very common in Palestine or in Southwest Asia altogether. Portrait painting or just paintings with humans in general is not something you’ll see a lot of in the region due to cultural and religious reasons - it’s a very long tricky subject (like I could source whole books on this), but there is a lot of taboo around drawing people. Especially among Arab Sunnis who make up the majority of the Palestinian population. There are exceptions and there *are* paintings and pottery work we have with people on them from the region; it’s just not common. Also, due to record keeping we just don’t have a lot of sources on artists at the time.

For Palestinian Artists specifically, we start to see art with people in contemporary work. However, Palestine was a hotbed for the orientalist imagination so we do have paintings of Palestinians from around that time - it's just not done by Palestinians.

I'm sure you already know but a lot of European Artists were traveling through the Ottoman Empire and specifically Palestine for their own religious reasons to 'capture' what they saw as the closest thing they could find to life described in the Bible. Palestine essentially provided them a backdrop for their Christian artwork. They saw us as historical curiosities at best and barbaric savages stuck in the past at worst. Despite that, some of the paintings are quite beautiful, and there is an attention to detail with our clothing styles.

There aren't a lot of contemporary Palestinian paintings by Palestinian artists that I think fall close enough to what I drew but I can think of two who kind of fall in that semi-realism ballpark.

and Nasr Abdel Aziz Eleyan (he's probably my favorite)

If there was any illustration I'd recreate for Cullen and Asma in that kind of style, it would probably be this one. It has the right amount of yearning Cullsma needs

anyways. A lot of me yapping but Palestinian art is like an onion. There are many layers and things and you have to dig through them because a surface-level view is not going to tell you what you need to know, but thank you so much!
