“Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer don’t even look exactly alike how can their owners not tell them apart”
The implication in the lyrics was that by the time the owners got to the scene of the crime the deed was done and they couldn’t tell which cat had done it. The whole point is that they can’t tell the cats are collaborating and that enables them to succeed again and again. Them looking similar is a bonus.
“Or after supper one of the girls suddenly missed her Woolworth pearls
Then the family would say, "It's that horrible cat!
It was Mungojerrie or Rumpelteazer!"
And most of the time they left it at that”
Even later, the family and cook are only notified about Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer’s actions after the fact. They didn’t see anything happening.
“When the family assembled for Sunday dinner
Their minds made up that they wouldn't get thinner on
Argentine joint, potatoes and greens
Then the cook would appear from behind the scenes
And say in a voice that was broken with sorrow
"I'm afraid you must wait and have dinner tomorrow
The joint has gone from the oven like that!”
“Then the family would say, "It's that horrible cat! It was Mungojerrie or Rumpelteazer!" And most of the time they left it at that.”
The song even ends by stating the family can hear the destruction they’ve caused but haven’t seen anything. And so they can only discuss who it could’ve been and move on.
I think this also answers another common question I see which is “why do Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer’s owners keep them?”
“It’s that horrible cat!” Cat, as in one cat. Not two. They think only one of them did it and don’t want to get rid of both their cats if one is “innocent”. So they keep them both and ponder on.
#so I wanted to share my thoughts…..#In my opinion#Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer don’t need to look identical because that’s not the main focus of their song. It can be a cute addition when#Present but it’s not essential for the owners to be unable to tell them apart. Heck#the audience can easily tell them apart due to the height differences and both being of different genders.#Criticizing certain designs for not being identical misses the point. Them being identical is a preference not a critique.#as their song doesn’t require them to look perfectly the same. The only cats that are meant to be identical are Coricopat and Tantomile.#Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer have more flexibility in this regard#which is why they can sometimes look different.#Even when they started developing as individual characters on Broadway#they weren’t identical. So#it’s okay for them to have variations in their designs where they don’t look the same.#I swear 1998 brainwashed so many people into thinking all cats productions look like that

Tbh I would need a substantial amount of proof in order to believe an evangelical Christian could be a good therapist
#religious trauma#i would never EVER go to one thats for sure#and i know this is showing my bias and overgeneralizing#but the stories of harm just pile up and up and up#i don't think they can meet the bare minimum of ethical requirements#i certainly could not at the height of my brainwashing#when critical thought and empathy are the enemy#when you are not allowed to imagine let alone approve of other ways of lif#like fine you can be a therapist for barbara the southern Baptist#but stay away from everyone else thanks#exvangelical

If Fairy World oeprates on schooling and being tall enough for the job (ex. Cookie's Court; A New Wish) maybe Peri turned down dentistry because he was too short
#this is a joke. mostly because I think if there WAS a height requirment to practice dentistry like there is for Fairy Law-#for whatever reason- a dentist fairy would not have to be very big#but listen I just wanted to make the post#also knowing what we do theres a school for magical children creatures and we can ASSUME a highschool and MAYBE a college (though I have-#A theory about how higher education might work in Fairy World) and we know you have to go to the Fairy Academy to become a Godparent#It's crazy that being a lawyer has less qualification than being a dentist.#though I suppose if the judge is ONLY even Jorgen and that guy reads Da Rules every night before bed then it would feel justified?#Loving that Da Rules isn't only something every fairy (every creature?) has to follow but there's spesific rules for spesific occupations#its also likely required material in schools or smth#I like silly world building like this tehehe. OH and the fairy supreme court or whatever but thats like. Major Fairy crime-#Jorgen is like small claims court- but also the first step before supreme court unless its egregous. like Timmy's secret wish#like if Cookie proved Cosmo and Wanda revealed their magic maybe they would go to Supreme court? Then again Jorgen has authority to-#fire them.
